You can't just give the guy a bad rating and not explain it. This is Randy's first time teaching, and he's doing pretty well. He takes the time to answer each of our questions thoroughly. We'll see how he marks our exams, but I would take another class from Randy.

Very helpful and always took time to answer questions in class or email. Exams were a bit challenging, but nothing on them was somewhat we hadn't already done in class. Overall enjoyed the class.

Pros:quick marker, returns emails within hours, explains what will be on the exams, easy 75 but 90 if you put in effort, very knowledgeable guy, holds study sessions before exams. Cons:tough mc on exams, very boring class, seems to teach only the material he feels is important, goes through slides painfully slow. Overall:I'd take it from him again

Randy is a great prof. His lectures are very clear and he is always there to help. He makes class fun and truly wants to see his students succeed. There are two midterms, a final and a short assignment. All long answers. Did not use the textbook once but unfortunately, had to buy it because the lab uses the WILEY online questions. Lab was useless.

Very hard class! So much information. I thought Randy did a good job, though I thought he taught personal taxes a lot better than corporate taxes. The second half of the class I was pretty lost in... 1 midterm, and 2 projects. Be prepared to work looong hours on the projects!

Didn't need textbook. Class was kinda boring but he truly cares about his students and is a great prof. Sometimes the classes are confusing because he jumps all over the place. Project was fun and a great learning experience. The exam questions were repetitive. You have to go to class for the in class audits and he will give you hints for exams.

Randy was awesome for Tax, made a dry subject entertaining. I've told a couple of others asking to take him for 285 and 384, I wish I would have taken him for both. Easy to get a 70 in his class with low effort, but in the effort and askpay attention and you can easily get a 90. 910 would take a different class with.

This was one of my favourite classes so far in business, Randy is an awesome prof, he is there for you and takes time explaining things. However, his slides are confusing and needs work. 2 Assignments that are difficult and time consuming, and 2 Midterms that weren't too tough. If you put the time into the class it's not hard to come out with a 90!

I love taking Randy's class. From day 1 up to now. I took BUS 285, BUS 384 and currently in BUS 386. He is awesome and he really cared for his students. Group projects would give you better understanding of the material. He marks fairly and very considerate. He doesnt want his students to memorize but that is not always the case. :)

I couldn't say enough good things about Randy. You can tell he really cares about his students, he doesn't just teach because it's a job. He is quite head strong, but I think that's what makes him a great prof. He really likes the whole work in partners thing, which is fine.. to a point. Would recommend to anybody pursuing accounting degree 100%.

Best prof I've had in my time in uni. Makes a three hour class enjoyable and is very knowledgable. Very clear about what will be on exams and what is expected of his students. Quite a bit of work outside of class (four assignments), but Randy is also super accessible and willing to help on everything. Highly recommended for any class he teaches!

I have taken 2 of his courses so far and each time I left with a solid understanding of the material but had to put in the work. Lots of assignments, but if you do them they cut down on study time. Grading is fair but sometimes exams cover too much material and can't always finish. Would recommend.

Ive taken 285, 384, 484 and JDCW with Randy. If you prove to him that you are willing to learn and will put in the time he will always be there to help you get a good grade. If you skip class and screw around thats on you. Hes by far one of the best Business Profs. He challenges you so that the CPA tax module is a breeze.

Randy is one of the best profs in the faculty. He has high expectations for students in his class and can come off a little tough because of that. He cares about the students in his class. I would highly recommend taking any class from Randy! His classes prep you for the CPA program and teaches students beyond what you can read from a textbook.

Randy sure knows what he's talking about and teaches in a way that makes sense. The way he grades is really nice because you don't lose marks all throughout for small mistakes. He can be a little rude at times, but he's good at his job. The fact that he's easy on the eyes definetely helps too

Ive taken a couple classes with Randy. It takes a bit of time to get used to his teaching style, but overall he is a good instructor. His slides are a fantastic resource, as are the examples he provides. As for grading, he is very fair and goes over assignments and tests in class. This is an accounting elective worth taking.

Randy is an amazing accounting prof. His teaching style is a little bit different from other profs i had but youll get use to it. What i like about Randy is he always gives part marks on exams and assignments. The first midterm for me was challenging but the 2nd midterm was a lot easier. The final was a little challenging too. Randy is the best professor I have ever had at uni so far. His lectures are engaging, he always inserts an appropriate amount of humor into his lectures, and if you are struggling (and if you care) he will take the time to make sure you get it. Would highly recommend.

Really nice guy who wants his students to do well. Attendance is pretty much mandatory he will probably call you out if he notices you skipping. If you work hard he will be willing to do the same for you and provides lots of extra help such as sample exams.

I really enjoyed this class with Randy. Randy really wants you to learn the concepts rather than just memorize them. If you listen and show up to class you should do okay. The assignments he gives out are helpful with applying the concepts. You get what you put into it.

Midterms are like the samples that he gives you but they are very long. 4 assignments throughout the semester which are worth basically nothing but take time to complete.

Randal is a good professor truly cares and doesnt curve marks, your mark is determined truly by what you put into it, unlike many other profs and their marking schemes . Fair on all aspects. Randy is such a gifted prof, you will not go wrong for taking tax classes with him. 10/10 would recommend. He delivers the class online aiming to be more like being in the classroom. He can be intimidating but it helps to build stamina for future employment. Expect 2 midterms, 2 assignments, being called out in class(a lot w/ cam on), and a final.

Randy is not for everyone but is a fantastic option if you want to truly learn accounting. He is very intimidating and mean at first but he grows into a nice person over the semester. Although to get the most out of the class you have to show up to them all and work a lot outside of class. His tests are easy and fair if you put the work in.

Pretty straight forward in what is needed to both learn and be successful in the course. Was refreshing to see someone lecturing versus seeing slides on the screen and hearing a voice reading them. Would take again if in the accounting degree program.

Wasn't sure what to expect for a remote class after the fall but enjoyed this one remotely. Randy made you listen, cameras on and engage in class and it helped to keep the class moving along. You get what you put into it the course.

Randy was a great prof especially during online classes. Learnt a lot by actually doing problems instead of just reading off of slides. Might be helpful to get a second monitor for this class as you use excel every class.

I have never had a prof that puts so much time and effort into making our learning the best possible experience (on zoom or in person). He truly cares about his students. Accounting is hard but he tries hard so that you understand what's going on. Beware he calls on random people to answer so you need to be engaged all class.

Well put together class. Exams were basically what was covered during the class lectures and on assignments. Not much work outside of class and studying for exams, which made the overall class enjoyable.

If you attend the lectures and work on practice questions/assignments you will do fine in this course. Made tax interesting and relatable to life, which made for lectures not feeling like 3 hours.

He is an amaizing proff. He dosent test hard, 99% of the exam is from the examples he helps us solve in the labs. He covers all the examples he posts on URcourses. Nothing is new on the exams. you just need to study and pay attention. Just one negative point would be his lecture slides. those are not much usefull and often confusing.

Randy is a decent professor. He has clear grading criteria, outlining what he expects from you in class. His lectures are engaging but will teach material very fast. On the other hand, the way Randy runs the classroom feels too aggressive, which adds unnecessary stress. The midterms and final exams are insanely challenging as well. Stay vigilant.

Randy is very friendly as well as organized. He will call on people in class and get mad if more than a few in a row don't know the answer. He tends to go through the material at a fast pace. If you take a hybrid course with him, just go in person because he forgets to turn on his camera sometimes or will only talk directly to the people in class.

Did the course over zoom and was straight forward overall. Assignments were what was on the exam and the final was not comprehensive. Liked that even though I was on zoom I felt like I was in the classroom with the other students who were taking the class in person.

The class is very hands on and you use excel for almost all of the examples. Exams are also done in excel, which makes it a lot easier. Coming to class isn't mandatory but don't see any point in missing class; as its a mix of questions and lecture. Solid class.

Randy has clear expectations for students. He expected us to be in class and be on time and to participate in discussions. He was willing to help me when I didn't understand something. Really intense guy. Makes attendance extremely clear that it is mandatory to pass... and do not be late for classes. However, he understands accounting and gives you the resources and explanations that makes it make sense. I actually understand this stuff because of the way he teaches. Would take again.

Good course. Lectures and class materials are well laid out and make the material learnable. The exams and assignments are what is taught in the lectures, so you need to attend class. I am a finance major, and the class helped me understand investing in a completely different way.

A different style of teaching than I am use to coming from another faculty as you need to attend the lectures and understand what is happening and not memorize. No textbook, lots of practice examples and assignments get you ready for the tests. Enjoyed the course.

Randy is by far my favourite professor. He has a different style of teaching which forces you to go to class which I found very helpful. If you attended lectures and paid attention the class was very easy and had virtually no work to do outside of studying for exams. There were no surprises on the exams either he told you what to expect.

2nd tax class taken from Randy and learnt a lot in both of the classes. Found this class easier than 384 and it was nice to redo topic again from the 1st tax class. Would have liked to do more cases throughout the class but got to do some cases as CPA prep. I also liked the smaller class size of 20 students.

Case based learning that changed my time in University. This course is a lot of work; but the payoff is worth it. The class is not difficult, but the weekly case deconstruction/presentations pushes you. Left this course with the ability to do cases, communicate and present to professionals. If you can take this course it is well worth it.

First business class and enjoyed it. 3 exams, a few assignments and no expensive textbook. Did a group presentation in the last class. Good class.

This class was very much hands on and covers a large amount of material compared to other ones I took. I exams are longer but are what we covered during lectures. Good templates and you use excel a bunch. Great course to take.

First business course taken and didn't find it overwhelming or difficult. Lectures were okay but enjoyed the in class work and cases we did more. Having no textbook was good.

Great class with a lot of work. 3 hour class and lab where back to back which made for a long day. Not sure if the lab is always the same day as the class but if you can take on a different day. Final wasn't cumulative so each exam was easier to study for.

The class was a lot for one course but the PowerPoint and lecture questions made it doable. Teaches the class so you understand which I found it made it harder at first but by the second midterm it came together.

Bus 100 was an easy class. The lecture was good and was once a week. We did 2 group projects and the exams were pretty straight forward. Randy talks a bit fast and would explain the material is a simple and engaging way. I would recommend him as a professor.

Attend lectures and labs, stay on top of the assignments and practice questions, and you should be successful in this course. The exams are on the longer side but not tricky. Not having a required textbook is a bonus. It's clear he cares about student success, and I'm happy I took 285 with him.
