OK teacher...OK class. not much else to say
Dude, classes can't get any better than this. Clear powerpoint notes, awesome sense of humor, no homework, very little reading, very easy tests, and you actually learn something. He also offers tons of extra credit assignments for all you lazy people!
The class is ok. There is no HW and a lot of extra credit. Most of the test is from the book, so if you are willing to read you'll do fine. His lectures are sometimes pointless, but it is a pretty easy class if you are willing to teach yourself.
Very good teacher. Very easy going.
one of my favorite teachers! clear lesson plans, easy work load, and makes the class fun. Very nice guy and funny! LOVED HIM!
He will dmiss 2 weeks worth of classes cause he always has meetings. that's a plus. clear teaching and good powerpoints for notes. most of the test are on the notes.
he's hard. test questions arent covered in lecture. do alot of your own reading. i love psych..not that much anymore.
Don't take this teacher. he is very hard. u do get a lot of extra credits but they r not of any help seriously! u will surely end up getting a c or a D in class. don't get taken away by all the other good comments abt this teacher
I just took his class. He has alota stories to tell. Funny guy. Clear about everything. My Psych Lab helps alot. I very much approve of his class
I just took Maritnez for brain and behavior, this is a very difficult class. Although his lectures are clear and this no homework, the exams are very difficult. Martinez's exams are very tricky. I suggest taking a basic bio class before attempting this one.
He is a very hard teacher. on the quizzes he expect the students to know the stuff he didn't even go over in class. and his tests are very hard. if u read the whole chapter u are still gonna get a C or a D on the test.
One of my favorites! Funny guy. People say he is hard but, DUH, you have to do the work! I am a B, C student and I got a A in both of his classes. You just have to show up and listen. He does give alot of writing assignments though.
Natural born teacher. Hes challenging but not to the point where the material is mind bogggling hard. The way he teaches & the tests that are given allow his students to learn. Hes also funny & really understanding. He gives lots of opportunities to improve your grade, if you need an extra bump.
examples don't appear to relate to sociology or psychology. tests are very hard (his reviews include almost EVERYTHING), his lectures and the book don't necessarily mesh, so that's confusing. there should be a tutor and study group for this class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Worst teacher at Cypress.I am a psyc major, I have to take statistics for math and psyc.I did fine in math 120, but horrible in psyc 162.What does that tell you, when its the same kind of math? Lecture do not correlate with exams, and exams are extremely hard. YOU WILL FAIL!
I never felt like i didn't want to go to this class. He made it interesting. You have to show up and pay attention for this class, just as any other math class, otherwise you will fall behind and it will be hard to catch up. He does relate his examples to sociology and psychology. I recomend this teacher.
Do the work, whether it's due or not, and you'll understand the material. The class is fairly difficult, but if you really focus hard enough, he'll make it easy for you. Moreover, he's reasonable and helpful if you put out the effort.
I TOOK DR. MARTINEZ FOR BRAIN AND BEHAVIOR. HE MAKES THE AREA OF STUDY FAIRLY INTERESTING, ESPECIALLY WITH HIS POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS.I DO HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE OTHER STUDENTS: HIS EXAMS ARE DIFFICULT. EVEN IF YOU STUDY THE CHAPTERS PAGE BY PAGE, MANY OF THE QUESTIONS ARE MIND BOGGLING. SOME TESTS WERE TAKE HOME AND THERE IS EX CREDIT.
He is a good teacher
I took Mr. Martinez for Brain and Behavior and decided to drop after the second week of class. His lectures are unclear and he doesn't seem to make much sense half the time. He has trouble explaning concepts. He thinks he's funny and he isn't which got a little annoying. I wouldn't suggest him to anyone.
One of the best teachers. let us take home all of our tests even our finals. He still knows my name and says hi to me in the hallway.
stats! cool class, hard subject to learn but he brings ease to it. the tests are tests, fairly challenging, but he gives you formulae, easy homework, and is a very nice guy.
Hard class, great teacher.
The class was not boring, ill tell you that much
He is very unclear, used only power point for his lectures but went really fast through the material. We would have to go online to get the notes, and teach ourselfs the concepts. He thinks he is a great teacher but is very unclear and disorganized. I was really dissapointed with his class, don't take him for anything.
I have him online. He is hard to get a hold of. Nice guy but needs to be more organized and clear. Not sure how he grades yet. Compus maps in psy 101 is a bit much. A lot of reading and quite a bit of homework.
He is a very approachable and fair teacher. All of his lectures were very organized and included a lot of technology. He had us watch a weird movie that was totally relateable to the subject and do a report on it. That was a different but fun assignment. I really enjoyed taking his class.
His tests are incredibly difficult, even after spending hours and hours. Literally no one in my class got an A in his class, which is absolutely ridiculous.
Very fair and helpful. If you need additional help, he encourages and makes himself available during his office hours.Very knowledgable with the material. If you have good attendance and actually study your lecture notes, it will reflect in a good grade.I would definetly take this instructer again.
Great professor! When you're in his class the subject is extremely difficult but later on you see how helpful it all is. I took him for Stats & Research the same semester & when I transferred to CSUF a lot of the classes involved things that I had learned in his class. If anything, he helped me a lot though it didnt seem like it at the time.
Nice teacher but a bit unorganized. I liked the way he had us teach each other the concepts, but his tests are very difficult. You can pass his class though, as long as you keep up on the work.
I took the online class & it's fairly easy. He's not the best with returning your emails & he's not on top of it with the grades. Being that it's an online class, you do have to read. The tests are ok since you do get to use the book. There are 4 tests & a final. He drops your lowest test out of the 4. 5 concept maps. & discussion board every week
Excellent teacher!! A few tips: read the ppt's & listen to mp3's they are in tests!! Check under prof. info, he is available during office hrs. He is super nice & helpful. Some test q's are confusing, but not too bad if you read ppt's.
omg hardest class ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is an ok teacher. if u dont have to take this class DONT!!!!!!!!
Prof Martinez tries to make things as simple as possible in his class, even though the subject matter is hard to comprehend. Show up to every single class or else you WILL fall behind (especially if you miss SPSS demos) as in any math class. Funny, cool, and understanding teacher, who made the class interesting and easy.
I took his class in the big lecture hall where they have sex ed class too. He is so boring for one. Powerpoints dont make sense. He doesn't make sense neither when he lectures. I think he should stick to coaching. BUT, if you read your book, tests are based solely on the book. I got an A. Plus he doesn't give homework. Well not much anyway.
Do not take his Online class. He is the worst teacher ever and his tests are way too hard to pass.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had! I took this class online and he gives absolutely no help. I received zero responses to all my emails and the tests were ridiculous. I was excited to take this class at first but I definitely DO NOT recommend this teacher.
I took his online class and he never responds to emails, does not give feedback and frequently loses your assignments! I was excited about the class but quickly became disgruntled and discouraged because he is such a horrible teacher. And I got an A in the class, so I am definitely not bitter over a bad grade, just a bad teacher.
Mr. Martinez is a funny teacher, material's pretty difficult in whatever class you take with him, I took him twice already, he's an okay teacher, hard teacher but is willing to help, he gives us take home quizzes and tests sometimes because he knows the class is hard
Randy's a pretty decent teacher. He does expect you to do the reading. The tests are heavily based on the material in the book. He gives quizzes occasionally and they really do help you to learn what you need to focus on for the test. He's also fair when it comes to throwing out confusing questions on the test.
ok teacher. tests are confusing - answers not in book.
Horrible teacher. Do not take his online class, does not respond to emails and pretty much offers no help AT ALL!
Took his stats and a psych course and got an A in both. He's very well-informed and makes everything easy to understand. Need to work hard to earn the grade but I learned so much that helped with other, non-related, classes.
Funny nice teacher. Loves pizza. ha Is very thorough in his lectures answers all questions and willing to help. Made stats not as painful. Class is tough and you must study to pass tests. Tests are worded to challenge you.
Pretty funny and tries to keep the class entertained. The work is not hard at all, since he explains the material pretty well. He also is very helpful when it comes to answering questions. The only part that slip good students is his tests have tricky wording sometimes. Definitely read the textbook, because some test questions are based on them!
Really nice guy, but it is a difficult subject to learn and you have to really pay attention and read the text. Tries his best to help you understand.
I took his statistics class and had a lot of fun in it. It's pretty interesting if you like and understand math. Just do the homework and read the book for tests. His tests aren't too hard I got a B on every single one.
Really good teacher. Knows what he's talking about. Subject is pretty difficult to get but I have B+ thanks to his good lectures. I feel smart bc I get it so well bc he teaches very well.
He's a really nice guy and loves his subject. Just read the book for tests and do the hw. Gives a few ec opportunities and a couple open note exams/neighbor quizzes. Registered for another class with him!
He is definitely one of my favorite math teachers! A very nice and helpful guy. He made statistics pretty easy to understand by using real life metaphors and examples. His tests aren't too hard, and there isn't a ton of homework (which is a relief compared to other math courses)
I took Psy101 I really learnd. On line classes a must is to be Organized, otherwise do not take it. He was helpful, regardless the previews reviews Mr. Martinez always answered my concerns and doubs about the course. He gives extra credits that help a lot.
I dropped his class past the middle of the semester. It was too difficult and too much work. He's really nice though, but if you're lazy/hate math/wants an easy A then don't take this class
although this a hybrid fundamental math and psy/soc class, the math work is easy just tedious. it is not an easy class, but it is not insurmountable. you must attend class so that you dont get behind. Martinez is a great professor and very helpful. his jokes are light-hearted and "nerdy", gentle giant.
Took his online Summer class. Easy, but had to keep up with work. If you are organized and stay on schedule, not a hard class, just need to do the work.
I took his summer online course it was somewhat easy. You really need to read the book and pay close attention. Do the homework assignments and be organized! His assignments were interesting specially the movie we had to watch. He answers all your questions very quickly over e-mails. I passed his class with a B. Good instructor. Take him!
I loved him! Definitely taking him for PSY 202. He is very helpful, while also making the subject somewhat less boring. If you are bad at taking tests, this class will be hard but do the homework and e.c. and he drops lowest test and a few low score quizzes but also review the study guide for the tests.
he's a very great professor very nice guy:) try hard to help students tests are hard but he drops lowest grade
I am not a math person and this was a challenge stats class. Just don't fall behind on hw. Test are once a week. He lets you have partners or take home quizzes. For exams he drops a few questions. He keeps grades updated through out the semester. He is also REALLY FUNNY! and will slow down the lecture if people get confused! Got a B pretty happy with that. Take him!!
Don't take his psychology 101 online class. You can read all the chapter he assigns, but once you get to the tests, it seems that most of the questions don't correspond with the reading.
He's very good and knowledgeable to his craft. You have to understand the materials to pass for the quiz, he is a Psych professor after all. Coursework maybe a lot, but he'll walk you through it. Now I'm taking his Psy202. Difficult, but not discouraging. Learn from him if your a serious Psych Major.
I took the 8 week online class. It moved pretty quickly through the chapters and the book is definitely mandatory because his presentations on Blackboard were kind of hard to understand. Overall it was a pretty easy class though.
very interesting class. Drops lowest test score and offers extra credit, what more can you ask for?
not an easy class requires a lot of reading and exams are difficult
He is incredibly difficult. you must memorize all of the formulas for the test. he does not do a test review. he will give you a test review document through my gateway but won't go over it. he does not explain well and he is just very confusing. he doesn't start with basic anything.
His class basically consists of reading the textbook, discussion boards, & quizzes/exams. We used a Wileyplus course, which wasn't so bad. Those quizzes are very easy and he gives you two chances per question. As for his own quizzes and exams, I found them to be difficult. There's no study guides. I suggest only good test takers take this course.
took his 161 course. If you don't keep up with homework and you don't study this will be a hard class for you, falling behind pretty much means you'll start failing quizzes and tests and those are all your grade. Not an easy professor but you do learn a lot, i managed to get a B also bc i did well on his final which is worth alot
This course was challenging! I am not good at math but it made me determined to do all the class work and problem sets. Of course the exams were difficult to ace but the extra credit and problem sets add up. Keep up with the class and turn assignments in on time and you'll be okay.
Wow! This class was CHALLENGING! Although, with that being said, I could not have imagined having a better teacher. He understands that this isn't an easy class and does whatever he can to help. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would suggest going everyday. He offers extra credit (trust me you will need it!). Do ALL of the homework and quizzes.
221: This was a hybrid class and pretty difficult since we only met once a week. But the tests were open book. 161: He appeals to logic. If you're logical, the class is straightforward and practically an easy A. If logic's not your thing, though, you'll flounder. He's a rad nerd who can be negotiated with. Can't wait for 202.
Never found any good use with mathematics and statistics until I took Statistics and Research Methods. Really hard class but worth it!
Very challenging class, but Martinez does a great job of appealing to all learning styles. He's very organized and will spend more time on something if you ask questions. He's patient. Go to class, read, and study. Quizzes can take a lot of points away so don't procrastinate! He's a good teacher because he forces you to be a good student.
Gotta Love Dr. Martinezz!!! just expect to work hard to earn your grade . He will definitely give you what you deserve ! so basically you gotta earn your grade it won't be easy to get an A !!! also he is absolutely hilarious and he is an amazing person :) definitely recommended
Stats was one of the hardest math classes I have taken but Professor Martinez will do anything in his power to help you. He has about 15 quizzes, 4 tests, and all of the homework is on Aplia. He will teach you things that you will need to know once you get to a university, which is the best. Overall nice guy!
I took this courses online and has to be one of my favorites online classes so far. A couple of quizzes here and there, 4 exams (if I recall), and a good amount of homework.
pretty solid class. not that much of work. multiple attempts on quizzes and two attempts on tests. two assignments per week and one discussion board per week for a 5 week online class is pretty good.
Online class and doesn't post video/audio of presentations. Issues with online textbook. Extremely unaccessible through email and not in the least bit helpful. Reading the textbook is the only way to learn something. Does not make himself available for office hours and does not connect the students to one another for study groups. DO NOT TAKE
If you can find another professor teaching the course you need, take them instead. This class had way too much work for the class that it is and it did not help that his lectures were unorganized and lacked important info that you will see on exams. You are better off reading the textbook.
Professor Martinez does everything in his power to help out his students understand the material. There are 4 tests, lowest one is dropped. About 15 quizzes and only 9 count toward your grade. All homework is on Aplia. Highly recommend his class
He skips over things in presentations, tells us we can do that at home and ends the class early? Seriously? He also doesn't announce quizzes sometimes, you look at your grade and you see a zero for a quiz he never even mentioned.
Professor Martinez is really nice. He will try to help you but you need to know the matieral. He gives 12 quizzes and only counts 9 towards your grade. There are 4 exams and final is worth 20% of your grade. Extra credit is givin but only 20 points. Overall good teacher but you have to really study
Professor Martinez REALLY cares about his students. I had him for 3 courses (PSY 161,202,221) and he is easily one of my favorite professors at Cypress. He is very passionate about psychology and it shows in class. He is very easy going and cares deeply for his students. If you keep up with lectures, homework, and readings you will be fine.
Randy is an awesome professor and research methods was such a cool class. We had one semester-long group project that is worth half your grade, 8 quizzes, and a final. Broke down the project into homework assignments to make it easier, stopped taking roll after the first few weeks, and let us work together on the quizzes.
Randy is great! He is clear and thorough during lectures and when explaining expectations. He seems to care a lot about his students and is a genuine person.
I took his online class since it was the only one offered. Avoid it - it's useless and you won't learn much. PowerPoint were not helpful for tests its mostly vocabulary and a few examples. They need to get another professor who can teach it on campus. More people would pass it.
His online class lacks structure and not the best course. Why offer a class online when the materials are heavy and difficult, students have questions and if you're are struggling you literally have to see him in his office. Pick another teacher!!!
Professor Martinez is awesome! His classes are difficult, but managed to get an A in both Research Methods and Brain and Behavior. Make sure you attend all of his classes. It will help you out in the end because you work on assignments/ labs in class and if you miss a quiz you can't make up for it. Just do all of your work and you will pass!
Takes forever to grade works especially for summer class. Took him 5 weeks to check on first week's home works, quizzes, and tests. Does not give any feedback at all.
As long as you do your work, you should be fine in this class. Quizzes and exams were easy. He removes the exam with the lowest score at the end. Quizzes have unlimited attempts.
I had Martinez for both Research Methods and Brain & Behavior. Very kind, funny, and helpful professor. Semester long project in research methods so choose group members wisely because the project is worth more than anything else in the class. Must read the textbook for both. Lots of studying needed!
Great teacher but really makes you work for your grade. I wasnt sure if I was going to pass but I ended up passing. This class stressed me out for sure but this professor is a really nice and encouraging guy, and he cares about his students. Show up to class and do your homework, and dont forget to study for exams.
Prof Martinez is a laid back, intelligent and accessible professor. I think that maintaining focus in a difficult online course is quite a task but Professor Martinez offers a plethora of resources to guide you through. Those who are complaining perhaps were not expecting an actual college level course, but if I passed brain & behavior- so can you!
took this class twice this professor Randy is clear and concise, last professor i had I wasnt able to pass the class because he was confusing. I am able to understand his explanations, encourages peers to help each other, hwk online and rapid feedback on grades, extra credit offered, must read first weeks if u nvr taken stats /do the hwk!
Course wasn't as difficult as expected as he explained the information very thoroughly. He's passionate about this and shows/compares the statistics of test scores in class to show how stats can be useful. A bit of homework but it helps with learning how to calculate such stats or using certain formulas. Overall, great teaching style and professor.
Its research so make sure you have an idea of what research topic youre interested in before time. Also chose your group wisely this project is worth 60% of your grade and ask as many questions as you can before its due. Overall hes a great teacher although he takes forever to grade. Tests are timed so make sure you read.
The professor was impossible to get ahold of (I emailed him 5 times throughout the semester and got 1 reply). His grading through canvas is COMPLETELY different than his actual grading (my final grade dropped from a 95% all semester to an 89% due to "realignment"). I had to fight to get credit for assignments I did. Posts assignments last minute.
He's corny but aight.
Professor Martinez is very chill and a great guy. He especially loves to talk about sports and make math jokes. The math itself is not too difficult, but the concept sometimes is hard to grasp. Professor Martinez takes time to make sure we understand both, which I appreciate. There is a decent amount of homework, but it's not excessive.
He is a chill and kind man, but that doesn't mean he is a great professor. In terms of teaching, he is mediocre at best, because he does not explain the concepts well. All his tests are online which is nice, but a lot of the test questions are conceptual, and for the most part, he only explains the mathematical processes in class. Doable class
I took him because I saw he had good reviews, but I didn't expect to be lost on the first day. There's modules semi-weekly and quizzes that come last minute. His lectures were confusing and I couldn't keep up. I wasn't able to comprehend no matter how hard I tried and his exams were so heavy that my notes and his lectures didn't add up for me.
I chose him because of the good reviews. He is a nice man, but not a good prof. He doesnt explain the concepts well. I was confused the whole semester & I didn't learn anything. He is the main reason I decided to changed my Psy major when I transferred to the university cause I didnt understand the research methods concepts.
His lectures done on YouTube was hard to follow and when I emailed him to get some help to try to understand or when I needed help, he was stand offish. I ended up having to withdraw, something is seriously wrong when he consistently posts "Stats" on exams of the entire class and seeing how low the class average is. Then ignores to help the class.
It may look bad, but his class is easy to follow as long as you stay on top of everything. Quizzes come up out of nowhere, but it's easy (; One assignment every two weeks + comprehension checks through Cengage (easy). Exams are easy enough too (; Just stay on top of everything and check Canvas daily!
So much materials to read. You have to get total of two textbooks which requires you to read so much. The labs are very difficult with downloading and learning how to access SPSS. The final research with team members are very challenging with having to start from scratch. There are quizzes every single week which is very hard and FINAL.
Honestly the class was a mess. The sites he required for assignments were unreliable and you can get behind cause of it. The class really didnt make sense once you started getting to the end of the semester. He wasnt fast at answering emails, like you wait days before you hear back. He seems like a great person but his teaching is not for me.
God awful & piss poor he recycles materials from past classes and doesnt even change the dates, almost impossible to get an email reply, 8 quizzes in total and very confusing wording, the final exam is cumulative and wont even bump up your grade. Beware of your group mates on the project choose wisely or youll end up regretting it later on.
i almost switched my major instead of finishing the class
I've taken this class with him twice and I've failed once and I've gotten an A once. If you put in the time to practice and study outside of class, then you'll do well. Online was better for me because I could replay lectures. His videos are pretty good. If you do extra problems beyond homework in the book, you'll do better in the class. Good luck!
Professor is nowhere to be found for our class. I am in a fully asynchronous class which means emails are our only way to contact him yet he will not respond to any of our emails. Not only a few of us but several students have tried to no avail and sending several emails each. He also never grades assignments leaving us completely in the dark.
8 labs. 8 quizzes. (weekly) 1 semester group project (pick your teammates carefully). You get to rate them at the end, in how poorly or greatly they contributed in the group project. The only thing you really need to buy is the APA Manual as a guidance towards the project. He doesn't teach in class, so you have to teach yourself.
80% of your grade is a group project that you will choose partners for in the beginning of the semester, so make sure you choose a topic you're actually interested in. His emails and lectures are VERY disorganized and it's hard to actually get in contact with him, but he is generally a nice teacher.
Took this class during the summer, which took a month, so the material and learning were very condensed. Lots of assignments and reading, make sure to take good notes and stay on top of your work, and you will be okay. Uses Cengage Mindtap, which I enjoyed. His presentations were kinda weird to follow(?). He might take a few days to answer emails.
Honestly, Prof. Martinez wasn't all that bad! As long as you follow his instructions, which he posts every week, you should be fine. He does post helpful videos as well! He may take long to grade, but at least he wasn't that harsh. I expected to get a lower grade on my project since it did not look the best, but he still gave me a decent grade.
GO TO THE STUDY SESSIONS WITH VY. This class is extremely difficult and if it wasn't for tutoring with VY then I would've failed. She gets you through everythinggg. Randy is nice but he isn't organized. He is way easier than the other research psy professor so I would just push through this class. GO TO VY I can't stress it enough but u will pass.
prob the most easygoing psy202 prof but biweekly labs, biweekly quizzes, almost weekly readings (often 100+ pages), a research paper, presentation and final is crazy for a lower division undergrad course. had more work here than in my science+math classes combined. avoid taking in the summer or in combination with other tough classes.
I took this course over the summer and I enjoyed it. It was very fast paced because it was only 5 weeks but the course load wasn't too bad. Weekly readings, discussions and 4 exams. The class itself through canvas was pretty organized. Professor Martinez also isn't a tough grader.
I did well in this class due to my online literacy and math skills. Avoid this class if you struggle with math or are new to asynchronous online courses. The textbook is free, which is a plus, but doing well on exams is essential for a good grade. The professor is somewhat distant: reusing old material and is sometimes slow to respond to emails.
While the workload is heavy, the professor tries to be helpful. Engaging with the class structure and using study tools like unstuckstudy can make a difference. Just beware of potential issues with communication and organization.
hes a really good proffesor that offers tutoring after class aswell but fwi if you don't pick a good group on the first day of class you'll most likely not do well you will have the same group the entire semester
