Mr. Scott is the funniest guy ever, always laughing, easy to like. He's a great teacher too, makes you understand math. Homework barely counts 5% of grade.
Mr. Scott is the best teacher ever. He actually cares if you understand or not. He is very helpful and very patient. Very cheerful, never grumpy. He explains everything well, and he never makes you feel like an idiot if you don't understand something.

this teacher sucks he doesnt explain what going to be on the homework and u sit there stuck not knowing what to do.. very frustrating goes too fast when its time to go slow and too slow on easy parts... goes over near impossible things once and expects you to understand dont take this teacher!!
Math is a very difficult subject for me, but Mr Scott is very clear and exact with his teaching method. I would have to say that his way of thinking relates well to how I learn. He is an excellent teacher.
scotty is the best math teacher this world has to offer -
i love him! he explains everything really well, and he is hilarious. sometimes the things he says are really random but they are funny as hell. he assigns a lot of hw but if you do them, you'll be fine for test. (most of the test are pretty easy). he is awesome! take him if you can.
best/funniest teacher ever! u don't have to like math but if u take him, u'll enjoy it.
Scott is funny. He takes his time, and explains everything very well. He gives a lot of HW, and there is a quiz almost every class. Don't worry he is very helpful and wants everyone to do well. I would recommend him.
He's a great teacher. I was bad at math before, but because of him, i got A. Great teacher! Highly recommanded.
Best teacher I have ever had! Made math understandable! Love Love Mr. Scott!!!
Best teacher ever!!!! He makes things appear easy and goes into depths on the meaning of everything MATH. Take Him!!!!
he is the best teacher
great teacher, class is an actual learning experience
He is such a good teacher! I have never been good at math but he really helped make things easy and clear. I took him for math 80 and am taking him again for 140 next semester! If you struggle in math, he is the professor to take! He is funny and patient! Highly recommended!!!
Awesome teacher, really nice guy, know his stuff, can type in info on his calulator quicker than any one ive ever seen, also knows everything about math and calculator
I've never been good at math. In fact I do prograssively worse each time I take it. But Scott was amazing and I really felt like he wanted us to do well in math. Knows everything about math and if he does get stuck on a problem, he spends time outside of class to figure it out and then gets back to us and explains it. AWESOME TEACHER!
He gets really silly which breaks up any tension in the room. Homework is collected sporadically which counts for some small percent. Gives regular quizzes, so you have to stay on top of your game.
Best damn math teacher around. Funny, smart, knows what he is talking about.
One of the greatest teachers I have ever had. This class was not easy but he is great at explaining and showing you the light. The class was fun but he expects you to do the work and he will help you if you ask. Seriously, one of the best.... Yes lets have another!!!
He is really great, he goes slow sometimes, but in the end you see it was good he did. I have never in my life gotten an A and I did in his class. But you got to come to class and you got to do the homework.
hes a funny, funny man he makes us laugh when he talks about being bald! overall he is very kind, and makes calculus fun to learn.
A great teacher, far from an easy A however Mr. Scott really knows to teach well. He will take the time to help anyone and always cracks jokes that help make the class more fun.
He has his own style. If you do not follow his 'new' style of doing particular problems, then there IS a problem-he'll dock you points! It is a VERY fast paced class. Quizes every class, if not every other. Tests are tricky. He's scarcastic, but in a nice way when you ask a question in class. Great guy out of class. One suggestion: get a tutor.
Makes a grueling class more than tolerable - turns out Calculus can be fun.
Mr. Scott is a fantastic Math teacher. Easily the best one I've ever had. Can be sarcastic and a little rough but in a playful way. Cares very much about his students and their understanding of Algebra. Loves what he does. Fair grading and testing. No substitute for hard work. He is no pushover but will steer you in the right direction to succeed.
the best math teacher in the entire world! i never thought i could pass this class but he breaks it down so the fog clears and suddenly you can see all.i actually got A's on my MATH tests. take him. he is the math whisperer!don't get me wrong, math still sucks but he made the screaming inside my head stop.and he doesn't make you work in groups!
Awesome man, hard teacher.if you have a hard time with math, you'll need a tutor. took me two tutors with over 50 hours to get a D+. Again, he does have his own way with which you must do, or docked points!
took him and didnt pass the first time. After taking another teacher, i realized he really is one of the best math teachers out there. helpful. wants you to pass, but you have to want it and work for it.
Once in a long while you get a Professor that makes YOU UNDERSTAND MATH and HE DOES!!! He explains the concepts thoroughly. You will get and appreciate Math but you will have to want it. He's not an easy A and doing homework and bookmarking discussion problems will help you greatly. He prepares you to be THAT much BETTER in Math than the rest!
Best Damn Professor on campus by far! he really cares. He teaches every math level and has a great teaching style. I highly recommend him,he goes out of his way to help those who do the work and put in the time! you are guaranteed to understand math after his class. Good Luck!
Best Damn Professor on campus and he's funny too! Very knowledgable with great teaching style. Take his class and you will learn math!if you put in the time and work hard, he is there for you, he wants you to pass. screw around and fiddle w/cell phone in his class and he will get ugly, other than that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!! HE IS THE GREATEST.
I never liked math but this professor really makes it fun and gets you into it. If you do all the homework and try to learn, you should pull off a good grade, because the professor really cares and you'll thank him later for it.
mr. scott is by far the best professor at this college. he is extremely helpful and he makes class fun. he is really funny too. he really cares about his students and really wants them to succeed and he's extremely helpful. do your work and you'll definately pass with a good grade.
His teachings are really clear and easy to understand. If you do the homework and take good notes, you should be fine. I got an "A" with a little effort.
Hardworking, understanding, diligent. 9/10.
Took Mr. Scott in the Fall for Coll. Algebra & he made me better prepared for Business Calculus. He's very clear with his teaching & helpful if you show effort. To get an "A" is doable if you try to learn. He gives a good amount of homework but its for your own good to succeed later. Exams are base from homework + problems he emphasizes in notes.
Don't be scared of Mr. Scott the first day of class. He seems to be a jerk but then backs off after a couple of weeks. His teaching style is clear and precise and you can easily pass with a B if you do all of the homework and pass the quizes (which is like once a week.) Tests are kind of hard, but passible.
Very fair and helpful instructor.
Best math teacher ever. He made foreign concepts crystal clear to me. He gives great notes and he will make sure homework questions are answered and understood. He has a lively personality, also.
Mr. Scott is a great teacher. He is very wise and very helpful when you have any questions that need to be answered. DO NOT have your cell phone on in class or text message while in class. He will know. And if there are computers in the class he will know if you are using them when he told you not to. He's a great teacher and would take him again
Really good teacher...I recommend taking him because he explains things well if you dont understand.
One of the best profs at the college, best math prof for sure. His classes are in high demand for good reason, take him any chance you get. Good guy. Hot too. ;D
Professor Scott thinks his class should be everyones number one priority. If you're not great at math he is good at explaining things throroughly and always answers questions. When it comes to cell phones prepare to feel like you're back in highschool. And his class starts the minute it is scheduled to and ends the minute scheduled to.
Mr. Scott was an unreasonable, ridiculous, and unsuited math teacher. I am sorry but he didn't teach math 180 well at all. He threw pop quizzes like almost every class session and assigned millions (exaggerated) of hw problems. He is horrible and he is kinda arrogant. Not a good teacher!!!! I pretty much taught myself along the way in his class.
Great teacher. Take him if you get a chance. If you want to learn math in a comfortable environment, this is the class for you. He does a great job explaining complicated topics, so he is awesome in the higher maths. He has been teaching for a long time and it shows. A+ mr. scott.
Mr. Scott is an amazing Math teacher! But you really have to work for your grade. If you do all the homework, show up, and go to the Math Lab then you should get a decent grade. Maybe..
I loved his class! He is there to help for any reason if you don't understand, and if the question is holding up the class, he'll be glad to help during break. He's super nice, and I think it's cool he remembers names. You don't even have to complete ALL the homework problems, as long as you put effort, you get the credit for the homework.
Mr. Scott is one of the best teachers I have ever encountered. He makes you work for your grade and really LEARN MATH. However,he is always willing to provide you with extra help if you need it. Definitely take him if you are serious about learning math.
Absolutely brilliant. Fantastic at describing things and making even Intermediate Algebra interesting. The best part was how he was able to keep the class's interest, as he has a very dynamic, funny personality. I'd venture to say that less than 5 people dropped the class. I did the work and got an A-. Don't miss an opportunity to take his class!
He was very clear when he taught his lessons. He made sure that the overall point of the section was taught before the textbook problems which helped a lot with clarity. He is also very helpful.
Mr. Scott is pretty cool. He is funny and hella smart--but you have to work for the grade. I feel like you pretty much have to attend class to do well, you must buy the book and a calculator and work hard.
Absolute best math professor. Yes, there is a lot of homework and quizzes, but I gurantee you will comprehend math better than ever.
Amazing teacher! Very easy to understand! I have always been terrible at math and he made it so simple, the key to passing his class is seriously just to show up to every class and do the hw. I will definitely take his class again!
Hard class. Prob. together with a few others, i struggled a lot. It's kind of humiliating the way he puts you on the spot. Plus he has a quiz like every week i think. Some are pop quizzes. Tests are Missions.
By far one of the best calculus instructors out there. He keeps you interested in math and the two hours don't really seem that long. He's a stickler about punctuality and WILL point you out if you're late. However, his lectures are really clear and he provides more than enough examples to help you understand the concepts. Highly recommended!
You can't expect a calculus teacher to be easy on you. But Scott does make the best of a hard subject and I recommend him to everyone
You can't expect a calculus teacher to be easy on you. But Scott does make the best of a hard subject and I recommend him to everyone
Mr. Scott is a cool and funny professor. He give a quiz(20%) every week on HW(10%), 3 midterms(50%), and a final(25%).Attendance(5%) is is required to get points for attendance.Overall,it was a good class even for a retard like me.
Cool teacher, but doesnt teach, goes over 1 maybe 2 sections, and assigns HW for 3 sections. Hard grader on test and quizes. Dont take him unless your ok with going over the sections on your own.
I really enjoyed this class. I am not a big fan of math, but Prof. Scott kept it interesting and easy to understand. He is very good at explaining concepts and is always available for help. His tests are difficult, but if you study and pay attention, it is very possible to do well. Overall, great teacher.
YES he HATES cell phones but honestly it's for your own good. He's an Amazing teacher. Best math teacher I've ever had. Very good at explaining everything. He's extremely helpul and has a sense of humor.
You want to learn? Take Scott!! He's not easy.. He's fair and straight forward! I had him for 180, 280, and 287. He knows his stuff and he's always there to help you! He's caring and respectful. You won't find another instructor who can make calc so clear!! He makes class fun and keeps you engaged the whole time!! You will learn with him!! I personally consider him the smartest person on campus! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
He's probably the best calculus instructor at SCC. There are three exams and a final. Homework, quizzes, and attendance are also part of the grade. Quizzes are unannounced.
Scott has to be one of the best Calculus instructors around. He truly prepares his classes ahead of time for the students, and although his office hours weren't too numerous, he explains even the most abstract, ridiculous concepts very simply. If you find yourself needing extra help in a higher class like this, my only recommendation is STUDY GROUP
He can be a bit stressful at first but once you get to know him he means well. To do well read the book, attend all lectures (the usual), plus, KEEP UP with all homework because there are a ton of quizzes even though he says that he will likely only have 3 this course... not true. Make sure to review integration techniques and STUDY THE PROOFS!!
Honors Calculus 180 is a tough class for anyone. Fortunately, Mr. Scott has an excellent personality, and a willingness to teach in depth. Something I truly enjoyed was that he would break off of the standard schedule in order to teach useful tactics, and talk about how poorly we were prepped prior to this class in high school. turns out, hes right
If your a science major and want to prepare for physics this is the guy for you. Take the Honors and enjoy.
It is definately not an easy A. You must do all of the homework because there is a quiz every week. His exams are very detailed and difficult, so you must study everything. There is no study guide for the final..so you have to relearn the entire semester
Good teacher. I suggest writing the problems you had a difficult time on, on your syllabus. Come test time, and final time, you will have made yourself a good review sheet. His test are challenging and tidiuous.
He is definitely hands down the BEST math teacher I've ever had. I am purposely writing this comment before I receive my final grade because I don't want to be bias. He is enthusiastic about the material and teaching and it really shows. An extremely fair teacher, if you do the work then you will learn and probably get the grade you want !
He is a very good teacher explains in depth and as many times needed. e does steps by steps and is very clear. He is an amazing teacher and you will learn in his class.
I'd take him over an over again if I could! BEST professor EVER!!
Such a great professor!!Really staightforward, didn't make you going around and ready answer all of your questions when you need.I really love this classes, and it is one of my best ,also my last math classes at SCC before I transfers.Just pay attention to lecture, take a good note and do the hwk,you should ace this classes.Really love how he use ex.
Great teacher. Be warned, however, you MUST come to every class and do the HW. As long as you put in the work you will pass. This is not an easy A. Scott will do whatever he can to clarify and help you out with any problems. M.A.S.H. is highly recommended. I did around 40 hours there.
This is one of those teachers that sets the bar for other teachers. He takes time to explain things thoroughly and never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. I was scared to take calculus before his class, but now I have to admit I actually like math overall and find calculus interesting because of Mr. Scott. :)
Very good and helpful. If you're lazy like me you will pass with a C, just communicate with him if you're not gonna attend class.
Just do yourself and your future career a huge favor and take Mr. Scott's class. He's extremely passionate, brilliant, AND very nice; a rare combination. He makes jokes and doesn't take himself seriously which makes the class very enjoyable. The book is good in its approach, but beware: it has many mistakes, typos, and wrong answers in the back.
Great Teacher! I would highly recommend.
One of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of having. The guy is beyond intelligent, funny, and nice. Lectures are very clear and straightforward. I would recommend him to anyone
Mr. Scott is such a great teacher. I would recommend taking him if you are business major and need the 150 class. So helpful when you are having issues. Goes above and beyond so you can be successful in class. Lots of homework, quizzes every week but they help with exams. Study and keep up on homework you will be fine.
Good teacher. Some of the exams will make you think. Overall he is not too hard but you have to study. He is not unreasonable but you need to understand math to take him.
Professor Scott is an amazing teacher. I had him for 185, 280, and 287. If you work hard and study, an A is possible.
Amazing teacher. Good lectures. Learn to read between lines and predict what will be on the exams and quizzes. tough exams & tough grader. Quiz once a week and 4 exams and 1 final. No e.c. opportunities. Stay on top or you'll fall behind. LISTEN TO HIM, he hints at everything hell put on the exam and its all from hw but there is ALOT of hw
Amazing teacher. You will understand calculus after his class. But heavy work load and hard tests. Expect to spend 2-4 hrs per math assignment. Very hard tests. I usually get A's but I got a C in his class. Very easy to understand but very hard to get a good grade in his class. Also, don't be late to his class or text in class.
If you simply want to pass Math 80 for your AA degree, it's better NOT to take him. He prepares his students for up coming math class like calculus. He talks about his calc. classes all the time. personally, I think he doesn't give enough examples to one type of question, he goes through materials quickly and that doesn't help.
His tests were a little hard but the quizzes were easier. Usually gives 2-3 sections of homework a night.
Amazing professor, shows you how to use calculus in real world. Lectures are easy to follow. Will answer all questions. #1 reason why people don't an A in this class is because their algebra is weak. If you fall behind on the HW you are likely to fail the exams. For the exams study the class notes, understand HW. Know how to do the proofs.
I took his morning class and did not like it. He is incredibly boring and monotone. Beware of his tests, which are always over 100 points but only have about 8-10 questions. He gives a quiz every week. He's condescending, but his knowledge on mathematicians was very interesting. I'm a math major, but that semester, I hated math. Don't bother.
Easy to understand, goes very in depth into the material. Covers more material than usual professor, does this to get you ready for future math classes and 250-Physics sequence. Gives you as many points as he could on math tests even if you're wrong. Tests come from material covered in class. Quizzes are easy 2-3 questions per quiz. Be on time!!
Mr. Scott has one thing that sets him apart from other Calc professors. EXPERIENCE. He makes the difficult subject matters a whole lot easier, and tells you how you should think when approaching a problem. He assigns a lot of homework, Tests are challenging but fair. Work as hard as you can and you will get the grade you deserve.
Everyone had warned me about Professor Scott. And then I decided to take math 185 (Calculus 2) over summer with him. Hahaha You have no clue how nervous I was. But when I got in, I discovered he is one of the few professors who go through few examples very detailed and makes sure everyone understands every step of the way. I learned a lot from him.
Mr. Scott made difficulty bearable, since the difficulty curve for Calculus II is high. Mr. Scott has lots of experience teaching this subject, and he even has a sense of humor. He gives you as much credit as he can on the tests, even if you're incorrect. Beware of his homework, since it can take hours to do. I would recommend Mr. Scott to anybody.
I really loved Randy Scott when I took him for Math 185. He was really supportive and I found his grading criteria straightforward and fair. However, in Math 290 it has been a real U-turn. He skips many quizzes, takes forever to grade, oftentimes teaches methods that don't help you with homework. Chegg has been teaching me this semester.
Scott is an amazing teacher. He genuinely cares about his students. He even wrote me a letter of rec. Honestly, he has such a deep knowledge of math that you have to ask him to dumb it down to your level. Great guy. Like Santa Claus but with math not presents. Only con is the amount of homework. So. Much. Homework. But he's a great prof!
Omg Math 080 with Randy was awesome! He is such a good teacher and actually cares about his students. If you show effort and he sees you trying he will help you out. He's funny and actually makes math interesting! I like how he is old fashioned and uses the textbook and we get to show our work handwritten makes learning the material easier.
Best math teacher EVER! Very detailed lectures, works out examples thoroughly, never skips a step. Makes difficult topics easy to understand. Very helpful during office hours. Beware that his math classes require a lot of work. He assigns an endless amount of homework. Test are very detailed and challenging. YOU must study for them. Generous grader
I took Professor Scott for Math 185 over summer. Then took him for 280 during fall. And am going to take him for 290 during spring. He is such a great professor. He is inspiring. He is motivational. He genuinely cares. His lectures are great. He can be a tough processor because he believes you can be GREAT. And he helps you to be GREAT. TAKE HIM!!!
Such a good professor. Easy to understand and LOTS of opportunities to earn points.
i loved pro. Scott. if you are in science and math major, take him; he will walk you through calculus by giving you brief and understandable lectures . i had him for math 280 ( calc. 3 ) and linear algebra and differential equations and got all A. prepare for exams and quizzes and finals, those were challenged . again, take him.
I have yet to meet someone who didn't like Mr. Scott. He is the best professor I have ever had. Seriously one of the nicest people on the planet and an amazing math professor. You try harder in class because you want to do well for him. Very approachable and transparent about grading and exams. Scott you're the best.
Had Mr. Scott for Calc 2, Linear Algebra, and will be taking him for Differential. Quiz questions taken right from the homework problems given, and exam questions from the other problems in the book. Just do the problems in the book and you're guaranteed to see very familiar exams. Amazing math professor! Makes a summer class and a night class fun.
Took him for 180H,185 and now 280. In 280 he did less handholding than in previous math classes, given this is the third semester of calc. He mainly focused on new concepts/theorems. I recommend going to his office hours once a week, for further explanation/help with homework. For the final study previous tests & quizzes, its very conceptual.
Mr. Scott is by far one of the best math professors I've had. His classes are not easy, but he does an amazing job teaching. Makes learning math fun. Exams and quizzes are questions you've seen before. Really wants you to understand the basic concepts. Gives daily points for simply attending. Definitely recommend.
Randy's class is too focused on theorems compared to other professors. Most of the time you'll just learn by doing the hw than by his lecture (in which he makes mistakes often). Quizzes are easy as long as you do the hw. Beware of his curve-balls on exams, he likes to sprinkle obscure problems here and there. No study guide or review before exams.
He is one of the professors who pushes you hard and expects a lot from you because he believes you can get there. He believe in you more than you believe in yourself, trust. And he is always there during office hours, before class, and sometimes even after class if he doesn't have another class he is need to get to in order help you.
Had him for 180H,185,280,290,295. In calc 1 & 2 he does a lot of examples and teaches techniques on "HOW TO" do the math. Calc 3 and so on, he focuses mainly on new material/theorems. BEWARE that you need to understand math to take him. People complain that he's HARD but he's not. Tests are modified homework problems or the examples from the book.
Mr. Scott is quite a man. He will pass on a lot of knowledge and add a comedic spin on it. He made the class that should have felt like hell fun.
Professor scott is the best teacher in his field, so if you want to pass calculus he is the right choice, but sometimes tough grader.
Great teacher, good person. You do have to work hard, but he makes the process more fun than it could be. InputOutput. Pay attention and find like-minded people to study with.
Mr. Scott is my favorite teacher ever he really took his time and went through all the concepts which made it super easy to understand!! His lectures were hilarious and very informative. As a teacher, I respect really him and if you take this class u can plan on learning alot! Math can be scary and confusing but he makes it simple and fun ^_^
As he described himself what a rigid inflexible, and grumpy old guy, don't expect he will upgrade your grade into A even if you got 89.99%. Heavy homework everyweek. 11 quizzes not so hard but not the same things as his difficult exams. His calc class is the most scared about whether or not I could pass in my SCC career. Think twice to take
He makes the class very enjoyable and interesting. Professor Scott is the best professor to take for calc 3. He makes you work for the grade but if you do your best and work hard on the homework, the exams will not be that hard. Unfortunately he doesn't round up from an 89.5.
