eccentric is an understatement, but at least you'll never forget her
took 5 courses with her. great prof.

Great prof, would have her again. A little kooky but fantastic!
GREAT ADVICE ABOUT JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Strange, but very refreshing. A blessing and a torture all at once! I like her.

Just loved this woman, relentless work ethic was passed on!
What a fantastic prof! Her courses fill up for a good reason!
seven of the best courses I took at MUN
courses make you think about the world
very moody and crabby....would not recommend you like to put up with crap...
She has a law degree and gave me good advice about law schools.
She is the most cranky and sour individual I have ever met. She also marks quite hard and expect weird and hard amounts of work.

she's nasty and refuses to learn your name and instead calls you you whoo!!!!
Unfair comments about a prof. who does all her marking with over a hundred students per sem. Why would so many students join her classes if she is that nasty? Seems like someone did not study and is now whining repeatedly. This prof. does demand work.
Bunch of us took her courses and stayed friends. She kept discipline but was always polite. An exciting learning experience always. She knew my name and many others. We worked hard. She encouraged that. I will always remember her.
simply the worst prof. i have had so far. I am going to see the dept. head about her. You will get an A but avoid her.
She is one of the best profs. Too bad this website is being misused by ignorant cranks. She is one of the only profs. who puts students first in every case.
Will the grumblers avoid her courses so those stuck on her long waitlists can get a chance to join her courses.

the previous remark could not have been written by any student of this prof. Students are not nasty about helpful profs and they don't lie about good profs. Previous writer obviously not a student.
Always interesting. Well prepared lectures, encourages discussion. Best courses. Hope I can take more of her courses.
Always excellent. Explains work load clearly. Has high expectations. Enjoyable courses. Most interesting topics.
One of the profs. I remember. She enjoyed teaching. This came across to us. Inspiring. Also helped me get into grad school.
you have to work hard but the courses are well taught. I learned a lot about world history.
very good. explains well and answers questions. respects student opinions.
Her courses are always my first selections. Hard to get into her classes. They fill up fast.
Her advice about law schools and jobs opps. was the best I ever received. She really helped her students.
subjects are interesting. Teaching is clear. Wants you to work. She does her own marking.
Finally got into her course. Have heard she is the best. Was on her waitlists before.
She came across rude. She does not seem helpful on a one on one basis, very snappy and almost degrading. But opinions do change. Seems to be an excellent prof. Love her style of lecturing, makes it really interesting, we'll see by mid-semester.
Very interesting. Loves to rant and rave about how mean she is...only problem is she is actually very kind and caring. The course are easy if you go to class. Really likes to see her students doing well! Love that she has kept her own clothing style!
She's pretty cool, but I'm sad to say that she teaches Hist 2020 as an after thought. Every class we watch videos, and she didn't cover what half the class was writing for the midterm exam. Confusing goals, No effort to put history in chrono, order.
unlike that student, I attend class, take notes from her clear lectures, enjoy videos which backup lectures and did very well on midterm. Whos not attending class and grumbling?
I agree. She's a great prof. good lectures, fantastic videos. Makes history real and interesting.

Best courses. Best prof. Took five of her courses. All were excellent.
Of the four courses I took with her, her human rights course was the best. She explained legal problems very well. Inspired me to study law.
First-timers beware. She expects a lot. Know your stuff, go to class (although this may not be enough) - ask many questions. Don't let her attitude scare you. Good course, interesting and she's a good instructor. I'll know what she expects next time.
Amazing courses. Made me love History. She also helped with good info on jobs and opportunities for study and work overseas.
Initially offputting, but she cares about her students. Everything to be said already has.

Tough but fair.
Dr. Panjabi is fiesty and I love it. She knows her stuff and is passionate about teaching it to others. Don't be afraid of her... all bark, no bite. Once you know what to expect, her courses are amazing. She's the reason I changed my major to History!
great prof, makes the class interesting. no b.s gets to the point and lets you know what kind of work should be done. fair marker.
Good professor! She's got a very funny, sarcastic sense of humour. She's well traveled and always has a great story to tell. She interesting and engaing in class and expects the most of her students. Only problem is that she uses multiple choice questions for 50% of the course mark - not easy!
Panjabi is a sheep in wolf's clothing, to invert a familiar adage. It seems like she is going to be a super hard marker, but in the end she perhaps grades the easiest out of the whole History department! At first I found her various behaviors scary, but as time went on they were amusing. She's good.
good courses. I had to work very hard but overall very interesting. would take more in future.
She is brillant!! What an amazing prof!
Such a great class. Very intruiging atmosphere and especially with her teaching ethics. Gets straight to the point and shows enthousiasm when teaching. Her Multiple Choice tests are easy if you read the material and go to class. Essay assignment is hard though. Overall best course I've taken!
Do yourself a favour - don't let her scare you! She's a very knowledgable and kind person. Do the readings thoroughly and you'll do fine. The 50% research exam is a bit daunting if you haven't done one before. Has a good sense of humour that she lets loose once in awhile.
she scares the crap out of you in the first class but if you stick around it is worth it.
What an amazing prof!!! Do yourself a favor, take one of her courses. I've done several history courses with several different profs and she was by far my favourite!
Alhough she is very intelligent, I did not attend her classes to hear about what she wants me to do with my future, or how inspiring she thinks she is. I got nothing from her class! She tries scare her students, with no success. The class was not hard, but she is unbearable sometimes.
while she is without a doubt very well educated she scared me s**tless on day one but eventually she lightens up...but she really has to stop threwing it our faces that she is a LAWYER its as though she likes she is so much better then all of us best to attend her classes, it really helps with exam
Don't be swayed by her attitude on the fist day of classes! Her bark is far worse than her bite! She'll ease up on the class after the first week or so! While the multiple choice tests are a breeze (if you study your class notes and the texts)the research exam is a bit challenging (but she isn't a hard marker!).

She was great. I thought she was going to be...well...a not so nice lady at first, but she's all bark. Sweet lady and cares about students. Don't make her mad though...
Don't let her scare you away on the first day. She really isn't that scary and her tests are fairly simple. Her classes are very interesting and I loved her dry sense of humor.
junky prof... why do they pay her?
Some people love her courses but I didn't. She just shows movies and shouts at people (which is admittedly very funny). You'll be sick of hearing that you won't make it in life without a law degree. Says she respects students, but shows very little to support the statement. The work is easy, but she's hard to handle.
God love Ranee Panjabi. She's all bark and no bite. Well... a little bit of bite. She honestly cares about what she does and her students and her students' progress. She gives good, honest criticism and demands nothing but your best of you. Warning for future students: if you hand in a late paper she'll threaten to send you to Iraq.
Where to start with Panjabi? Well she's been the most influencial prof at MUN for me. I can never thank her enough for the things she's thought me. Don't worry you'll get over her bark, it becomes quiet funny after a while. If you want a prof who leaves a lasting impact, take a course with her. I was never bored in class.

She may seem intimidating at first, but she hates lage classes and I think she tries to scare people away to decrease the class size. Her tests are easy as long as you pay attention in class. When she says something is "important", write it down - it will be on the test. The research exam is a lot of work but its way better then having a final.
she's not for everyone
Wow, she really does make you work hard, but it's totally worth it. Didn't know how to take her first, but soon realized she's quite funny (though eccentric). You're expected to read 2 textbooks in 1st month for 1st test, then write a HUGE reasearch exam & an easier 2nd test, but there's no final exam! Loved the course right to the last lecture!
I respect Panjabi more than almost anyone I've ever encountered in my life. Extremely well educated, well spoken, and takes her job very seriously. She is a great professor.
I love Dr. Panjabi! She has been everywhere and knows what she is talking about. She is scary and anal but as long as you attend class and write down "important" things you'll do great! Her exams are easy...not sure about essays..haven't got my mark yet!
Really disliked her at first but she definitely grows on you. Don't write her off as a bad teacher the first week of class, once you get used to her she's fantastic! Interesting and knows her topic well. She is a bit eccentric but once you get used to to her classes are very enjoyable. And she has a lot of interesting stories about her travels.
WARNING TO ALL: About Panjabi, I wish I had known. She is a lovely person, knowledgeable, & approachable. CAUTION: If you like to work your butt off & don't want to worry about any other classes she is right for you. She is super super specific & excepts alot. I will absolutely never take another class with her. My GPA & sanity can't handle it.
I've taken 2 courses with this woman because I LOVE HER. And it is to true that her bark is worse than her bite. :p She wants her classes to be small and personal, to facilitate discussions. I must admitt though, she has threatened to send me to Iraq... on a few occasions. I love that woman. :p
Awesome professor! No suprises at all. Tests straight from lectures, when she marks something as important in class you know its going to be on one of the objective tests. Research exam easy and straight forward. She seems to be a little to concerned about falling ceiling tiles though haha:) loved her!
She is one of the best profs at MUN. She will spend two weeks scaring the hell out of the class, and drive away those who are not willing to put the effort in the class. If you are willing to sit through it, and put a massive effort into her class, you will be rewarded and gain new perspective on writing.
Read, and attend class. If you can handle these two things, success is a breeze. Emphasis on class attend.
This woman is absolutely hilarious. She seems intimidating initially, but it gets old quickly. There's a lot of material, so be prepared to ignore your other classes. And don't be suprised to be told to "SETTLE DOWN!!!" when it is utterly silent.
Possibly the best prof at mun. She will make you work for your mark, but she is extremely helpful, and really wants to get her students the best grade possible. If your willing to do the work, you will greatly enjoy any of her classes, especially the seminars.
Great prof, don't be scared of her. She's like a little kitten... with claws and teeth, but still a kitten! Show up to class, pass in stuff on time, and listen to what she has to say and you'll get an A. One of the best profs on campus, and just look at her courses! Espionage, Terrorism, Dictators, assassinations. How can you go wrong with that!
I took a number of courses from here in the 90s and she was one of my favorite Profs. Very engaging. Dont be put off by her demeanure she cares about her students. 15 years later I still think highly regard her!! do yourself a favor and experience at least 1 of her classes and be sure to attend 100%!!
Absolutely amazing professor. As previously stated, don't be afraid of her, she's harmless. Definitely one of my favorite profs ever.
I've had Dr. Panjabi four times -- 3 times last semester, and 1 time this semester. She is UNQUESTIONABLY the absolute best professor I have ever had. Kind, intelligent, interesting, and funny as hell. As long as you work hard and study you'll do fine. If you have the opportunity to be in her class, grab that opportunity.
Great Prof. As others said, she's a sheep in wolf's clothing, but she's very approachable once you get to know her. She loves using videos in classes and she's very concerned about her students as she wants the best to come out of them. A solid teacher overall, very kind and funny, to boot.
I was scared of her at first. She'd yell at us for being late or talking in class, and do not let her see you texting! But, Panjabi is an excellent prof. Her classes are always interesting and they fly by. Her tests are also extremely easy. Didn't find her very approachable, but I didn't really need any help, as the material was easy to understand.
If you miss class you will fall behind. Be prepared to take lots of notes and do lots of reading to get your A. She gives two objective exams and a research exam in which the topic is assigned in the first week of class. If you do your reading and take good notes, you will get an A. She seems nasty but she gets nicer, stick with the course.
I liked this prof but after doing 3 courses with her I'm getting tired of the way she structures her courses. She expects you two read 2 entire textbooks front to back and then gives 2 25-multiple choice tests that don't allow you to display your knowledge of the material whatsoever. Her courses also teach you nothing of how to write decent papers
The two courses I've done with her are my two highest marks at MUN. extremely easy tests and no papers. If you are doing a history major and need a course that requires less work than most history courses then take her courses.
Awesome prof! I love her classes, and she makes really easy tests. Her style of teaching is really beneficial, with videos and explanations along the way if anything is ever unclear. She really wants everyone to pass and is super helpful. Only negative is that she doesn't use her MUN e-mail, which is just frustrating.
She knows her stuff, but keep your head down and obey. I dropped the course when she verbally attacked another classmate for no reason at all. She thinks incredibly highly of herself.
She is an awesome prof. Highly recommend all of her courses. Be prepared to do the work. Yes, you have to read the textbooks but they are generally really interesting and she hints what is important. Go to every class and try to be about 10 minutes early.
You have to watch videos, take your own notes on them as fast as you can & you have to decipher the important information for yourself besides a few names and terms that she writes on the white board. Two 25 M.C tests should not count for 50% of a grade. Especially with the amount of info you are given to learn.
Great Prof! best course that I have taken thus far. Tests are super easy and very informal on what she expects from you. its all videos, so very easy to remember the course material.
I was incredibly interested in the material but I had a hard time figuring out what the professor wanted. She is also extremely hard to see outside of class. She abhors e-mail, which is ridiculous considering she's so big on modern teaching techniques. But with enough work, her classes are an easy A.
She has gotten a lot of bad rep over the years but she is a fine teacher. She is hard at first but she will warm up to you.
She genuinely cares about her students. If you put in the work and show up you will do well. Her lectures were some of the most memorable of my degree. Took every class I could with her. Comes across as super tough but actually a marshmallow on the inside. Very sweet, intelligent, interesting, and intense lady.
