this dude knows what he's talking about. his exams are really really hard, but if you study, you the minimum, you can pull a C. AND.....he's super handsome!
great lecturer and leads good class discussions. He really wants to get his students involved. His tests are straightforward and the map quiz really helps your grade. Hes a great all-around professor.
his lectures are great and interesting. his test is hard but not unreasonable. i definetly reccommend him!
Awesome class so far, really nice guy and he graduated from MWC. The map quiz def. helps. Knows his stuff and can't wait to take his Politics of Middle East

yeah the class is interesting, but his tests are impossible, he actually uses a reverse grading scale meaning no matter how hard you work the class average will always be a C
Very good in lecture. Hard to get to know, because the class is huge, but if you keep up with the readings and take decent notes, you should be able to handle it. Exams seem hard so far, and he's a tough grader, but very fair. Definately recommend him.
He is very interesting, adds little stories in his lecture, makes the topic interesting and always allows for debate. Def. take this class with him.
He will make you want to change your major to Poli Sci. Very interesting lectures in which he demands your attention -- you will no fall asleep in class! Overall great teacher. Take him for Poli Sci 101
Professor Singh is the best. He knows his information and is very open with his students. His grading is fair and the map quiz really helps. Allows lots of time for questions and great at facilitating discussion. FYI He plans to restructure the course next semester with more focus on participation.
An excellent lecturer, and a tough grader. Despite the fact that didn't get the grade I wanted, I still loved his class.
I really enjoyed this class, even if only 5-6 people were the only ones contributing to a discussion. The texts were pretty good reads and the tests were hard, but fair. He's an interesting guy with lots of real world experience. If you put in the time, you'll do well.

Hes a legit professor. Has a great ability to communicate well with his students while lecturing very well, Great guy and a real up and commer in the PSCI dept.
Great teacher. As far as I can tell, he seems devoted to fairness. I wonder if he's the best new prof at UMW.
He teaches you a lot, but his test are really hard. You only have three and he is a really tough grader, but you do learn a lot in this course
eh, i didn't think he was great. straight out of the book lectures, three (difficult) tests worth a third each, and a LOT of thick reading that doesn't seem to count for anything. he's very intellegent and a good guy tho, def. not the worst prof ever.
I agree with the response below. In my opinion, Singh's lectures seem to paraphrase the readings so in that regard class was redundant and a bit boring. I learned nothing new from Singh himself which bothers me since I read on my own and saved money and time.
I'd totally recommend him, but that would just prevent me from losing a seat in his upper level classes. In all seriousness, read the book and you should be fine. Some people find his lectures redundant, but if you're truly interested, he adds new twists and stories and is always open for discussion. Great prof! :)
Singh is possibly the best prof at UMW. Not only is his grading clear, lectures interesting, sense of humor amusing, but he loves his job and is eager to help. If only he wasn't married...
HOT! I am learning a lot in this class. He is an excellent professor who kows his stuff. He makes class interesting.
Dr. Singh is a great speaker who enjoys teaching. Having only 3 tests isnt THAT bad and most people end up with at least a B. Since there are 70 people in the class, attendence isnt required which makes Singh's class perfect for the non major.
He is great at lecturing and his classes were very interesting. He only has 3 tests a semester though and they were mostly essays which i didn't like. However, i would definitly take another class with him in the future.
All I have to say is..Singh is the man! Straight-forward, interesting, great speaker, and a bonus: he specializes in the Middle East! I like him so much I made him my advisor. Take him!
I pulled a B in the class, but I changed my major from IA afterwards. He's a better lecturer than most, but don't take the class for a gen ed if your attention span sucks. The 3 tests made each one that more stressful to study for, but if you do the reading it's really helpful.
AWESOME CLASS!!! He made it fun and interesting. I was impressed. The workload was just right for this level of class. Highly recommended.
Prof Singh is amazing, his tests are somewhat hard but if you study for them you will be fine. Great lecturer, take him if you are interested in the major.
He's an alright professor. His lectures are fairly easy to sit through, but mostly repetitive of what you read in the book. Nice guy. Only complaint is that your entire grade is based on 3 tests, so you can't afford to do poorly on any. Don't take him if you don't do well on tests.
Interesting enough lectures and material but could have made class discussion more involved. 3 tests comprise your entire grade and you really need to know your stuff to do well. Study all the bolded terms in your readings and be sure to know the most important concepts, while ignoring minor things. Most of class fails the 1st test but improves.
I loved the lectures but was irritated at the grading. I did not miss a single class, and took notes until the end. But the final was a take home essay that any idiot who didn't go to class could get an A on. I got A's on the first two exams based on lecture/reading, then got a C on the final essay. Brought down my entire grade. Really not fair.
Singh's lectures are okay although they can be dry and boring sometimes. With regards to some the reading material, only the first couple of pages are necessary. A lot of his lectures come straight from the textbook. This is class that is all about concepts and no real history or any historical examples, so much thinking is required.
Fairly interesting lectures I did learn stuff about poli sci. I think it'd be harder for a freshman, need to have good notetaking skills. Entire grade is just tests. He's a nice guy outside of class and he'll say hi but doesn't know your name.
my favorite teacher ever. very smart adn helpful, sometimes a little awkward.. i can't wait to take more of his classes
he was a very good teacher. while it seemed to not matter if you were not in class, it was to your benefit to go. he was knowledgable about the subject matter and used the books a lot. the tests were not hard if u studied but almost impossoble if you did not take good notes and read the material he assigned.
Awesome class, Singh is really helpful and clear. He'll get to know your name and talk outside of class. Show up a few minutes early, he always has some interesting and funny stories to tell.
He is a great professor!!! Tests are very fair and he is fun and interesting. Will not use powerpoints in class.
A very fast lecture giver. It is very hard to follow what he says. When he gives his lectures walking and talking it seems that he has to finish very fast because he has left something on the stove in the kitchen. You never feel that he is there in the class to teach you. You can't write notes. If you take his class, you need to buy a recorder. :(

Great professor, def cares about international relations and doesn't just spoon feed you from the text. Plenty of outside reading/references but nothing heavy. If you just show up you'll take plenty away from this class.
AWESOME professor. I loved this class. You need to do the reading to be able to participate in class, however participation isn't mandatory. Tests are directly from readings and lecture, so take notes. He's very intelligent, clear, and engaging. And super handsome... take this class.
As someone interested in international affairs, I found this class extremely interesting and useful for me. He explained complex theories about IA in a format that was fairly easy to grasp, and facilitated discussion in class despite the large numbers of students in attendance. I look forward to having him as a professor in the future.
Teaches things that are interesting and relate to current events, obviously an expert in his field, and doesn't try to push his personal opinion. Very good professor!
So far my favourite professor here!He does a good job of giving an overview on the various areas of political science. The one odd thing he does is that he tends to go spend about twenty minutes on an overview of the last class. He's a little boring because of that in class, but incredibly interesting if you visit him in person.
Class can be self-taught. Professor can go off on tangents but is a super nice guy and easy grader. He knows his stuff and I'll take him at a higher level for sure.
I went to class once every two weeks and still got really good grades. As long as you do the assigned readings (ALL OF THEM) it's not hard to pass his tests; they're actually pretty easy. However, I would recommend you go to class because he does talk about very interesting topics that aren't included in the book, but tests do not come from lecture
Professor Singh is clearly very gifted in his field and is probably a very good and interesting teacher for a major class but I took him for an Intro class and felt like he expected me to know way more than I should for that level course, there were only two tests and they cover around 250 pages of reading each with no study guide.
Singh's lecture are fascinating for someone interested in political science. Readings are referred to but you don't have to complete them until the time of the test. He's very friendly and incredibly helpful if you attend office hours.
Take his class! He is a fantastic professor! His lectures are clear and he is always available if you need extra help. I went into the class unsure about Political Science, but now I am in love with it! He assigns readings for every class, but they are not long and pertain to lectures. Lectures are always interesting. Highly recommend!
Great professor. His lectures are always very interesting, and he always manages to tie concepts to real world situations. As long as you attend class and do the readings, you will do well on his exams. Hes a really cool and knowledgeable guy and he's great to talk with during office hours. He manages to make the class easy, yet you still learn!
Singh was my prof for multiple classes. In each his lectures were engaging and easy to follow. He expects you to contribute but isn't a hard grader.
Professor Singh is an insightful individual and he is very deliberate in what he says. I loved his teaching style and I look forward to taking him again in the future. However, he can talk pretty fast at times without writing it on the board so I recommend using a laptop to take notes. Helped me and I'm sure it will help you too!
We are sorry to inform you that Prof. Singh was taken away today, ostensibly for crimes against poultry. The date of his release is yet unknown. Please contact UMW's Office of Faculty Comportment and make your voice heard. We all know Prof. Singh's life is in peril, and he needs his "ums" and sweater vests even in OFC detention. Thank you.
Comes into class every day with a smile on his face. Super smart, lectures can be hard to follow but he is very good about answering questions. Exams are fair. Participation matters big time, especially in upper level classes. Great guy, great classes. Highly recommend!
Professor Singh's Intro to International Relations is very easy. There are a lot of short readings assigned for homework and will help get you easy participation credits. His professional background is very interesting and makes for good anecdotes during lectures. Tests are extremely easy. Stay up to date on current events!!
2 exams and a final essay that is not hard at all. Show up to class and do the short readings assigned during the week and it's an easy A. Class is mandatory to guarantee an A but you could easily get a B without going too often. Do the extra credit essay because it's super easy, I'd knock it out the first week or so of the semester. Great class
Prof. Singh is an amazing lecturer. He is very friendly and willing to talk about concepts outside of class. Do the reading, he talks about them in class and they are on the tests. There are two tests (multiple choice) and the final is a paper. Attendance is a good idea, he tests stuff that he goes over in class.
I took this class for Gen-ed purposes, but very happy with things that were taught. Pay attention to your lectures and make sure you prepare yourself for class by doing the readings and you should do fine.
Great professor. Go to class, take notes, and do the reading and you're set.
It not a hard class, this class is fairly easy as long as you write notes (mostly write notes) and read a bit of the book, then you will pass the class. In his lecture he goes off topic and rumbles a lot, so i find it a little bit hard to write proper notes in class so i would suggest that you make some friends to copy from when you get confessed
Took his 5 week Online Summer Class. He does a lecture video for each module that you should take detailed notes of and study. You take 3 closed note exams and write a paper. Textbook readings can be a lot. Dont fall behind. Participate twice weekly in the Canvas chats for 5 points added to final. Interesting guy and is responsive to questions.
There are a lot of readings, but he tries to keep the lengths minimal. Has some incredible real-life experience in the field. Not my major, but would definitely take another class. I learned a great deal. If you don't make the connections yourself with the readings, he is good at making them during lectures. Grade is 3 tests only- downside.
Prof. Singh really knows what he's talking about and you can tell he's passionate about it. His sense of humor really lightens the lectures, which can be a bit tedious (but SO much valuable info!) Relies on textbook and readings, but lectures directly from them. The two tests are multiple choice, but straightforward if you pay attention & read.
He probably will not learn your name, but he is overall a good professor. Lectures sometimes made me fall asleep but were engaging other times. Grade depends on a multiple choice midterm, multiple choice final, and a final essay.
There are 2 tests and one paper. Study and the tests are manageable. The final paper couldn't be more than 2 pages and was fairly easy. He takes attendance but doesn't count it for anything. If you miss a class or three just get the notes from someone and you'll be fine.
I didn't find professor Singh exceptional in any positive or negative way. I will say that he breaks down the readings pretty well in class. One of the 3 total grades requires more understanding than what you would get from just skimming the texts so showing up is recommended but not mandatory.
This class was amazing! Prof. Singh is such an amazing professor and his class is very easy if you read and take notes. I loved his perspective and you could really tell he knew what he was talking about. I would actually enjoy going to his class and I'm sad I won't be able to have him again.
The problem I have with Dr. Singh is that his lectures are mostly group discussions. Which is fun and informative yes. But they don't prepare you for the tests whatsoever. This would be fine if there were more than 3 grades in the semester.
Although attendance is not mandatory in Dr. Singh's class, he strongly recommends that you come to every class. Homework assignments are gone over in class, and reviewing assigned reading is as well. Pay attention to the deadlines and you will be fine.
Professor Singh is very nice. His class is very lecture-heavy, but he is actually quite funny and interesting to listen to. Very few assignments, so be sure to keep up with the reading to do well on tests. All material is thoroughly explained by the professor each class. Overall, I have no complaints about this course!
Singh's class was very straight forward and not extremely challenging. Lectures were interesting and primarily summarized readings. Class participation makes up almost half of your grade so readings and class attendance are unofficially required to get a good grade.
The best, if not, one of the best professors in the whole university. Very caring and supportive. Very accessible during office hours and loves to talk about Politics. The Intro to Political Science is one of the best options to take for Social Science, you wouldn't regret it.
Dr. Singh made Theories of IR tolerable. I'm not a fan of extremely academic writing that rambles on for 50 pages, but the way Singh taught made me understand even the most difficult of readings. He's clever, wise, and one of the best lecturers I've had in my 5 semesters at college. The last essay was fun, and he's clear on grading expectations.
Very few graded assignments (with little clarity on grading criteria), and he's a bit of a tough grader. That said, he's a very funny and engaging lecturer. Fun guy to talk to. If you don't consistently do the readings, you're not getting an A.
Solid class, solid professor. Class discussions are interesting and engaging. The lectures were easy to follow and take notes on. Dr. Singh was able to get some of the candidates for the local elections to attend and talk with us. Our entire grade was based on 2 midterms and the final.
Singh cares about his students and what he teaches. Little graded material and it is hard to gauge what is on the tests or quizzes (he does give an outline before the test dates, but it's vague). Readings and participation in this course matter. The required textbook was read a few times but each test always had a question about it. Easy grader tho
Love this guy. A test, midterm, and a paper is what he graded for this semester but he tells you what he expects. His lectures are understandable even if u didnt read the paper prior before class. I would recommend particpating at least twice a month. But overall its an easy class and a cool teacher.
Taken several classes from Singh, best professor I've had at Mary Wash. He has very engaging lectures and makes sure to connect them to real life examples so everyone can understand. He also tells fun stories and makes class very enjoyable. He has a very chill demeanor but that does not mean you can get by doing nothing, he takes grading seriously.
Chill. Makes the subject enjoyable and thought provoking. Plays a mean fiddle, too -- check out his band!
UMW is lucky to have him as a professor! He explains politics and geopolitics in a very easy way for you to understand. I would recommend to do the extra credit he gives you if you are interested but get it over with quickly. His lectures are amazing and surprisingly he does not come off too biased politically when lecturing. Join his class now!
Such a good class. I didn't like IR theory in PSCI 102 but this class made me like it so much more. Singh is great and super understanding. Make sure to do the readings, as he asks questions about them in class.
Personally, he's a good professor and his lectures about Political Science, is fun. Only two exams and a paper at the end of the semester. Minimal work.
Learned a lot more about politics from this guy than I ever thought I would. Class grade is 100% exams and there is a lot of reading but does a good job of preparing us for the tests through lectures. Also, whatever is on the test is usually included in the textbook, so use that as your main study guide.
Easily one of my favorite professors. Probably the most engaging lectures possible in a 70-person class. Only potential downside to the class is that the only assignments are 2 midterms and a final written exam, but they're not too difficult.
Definitely a favorite professor. His class was engaging, and his lectures were a lot of fun. The lectures cover both textbook material and related content, as well as current events and additional topics. There are 2 exams and a final essay. If you do ALL the readings and come to lectures, this is an easy class.
