great teacher, great course...highly recommended!

He is cool, calm, collected with cute Sweedish accents! and is a great histroian
BRILLIANT! I enjoyed this class very much. Turned me on to history in a big way.
Raoul gives good funny, made boring topic interesting and kept us laughing!
Makes subject interesing, damn funny
Good prof, knows his stuff, BUT is borders on sexual harassment sometimes.

Funny, easy essay marker!Little bit inappropriate with comments
Very good teacher, willing to help out a lot, would recommend
this guy is an excellent story teller. his history class is like an enthralling radio play. he is hilarious, from the 'old school', so dont be offended when he makes cracks about hot chicks and goofy lookin dudes
Swiss accent + eccentric sense of humor + no political correctness + incredible amount of knowledge+ casual attitude = Raoul , take classes with him, improve your knowledge, be entertained and boost your GPA all in one package
Great way to start the day!
This guy is great. His classes are like reading a good book. His tests are great (he includes cross word puzzles on them), and he's a very fair marker, plus, you learn heaps! Honestly, this guy is so cool, I will definetley take him again in the future!
What a pleasant surprise! An easy & casual teacher, w/ great ability to tell you about history like a good book. Exams are straight fwd. Whether you have to take his or its an elective, you can't go wrong with Grossman!
Funny as hell. Great teacher, too. His class is never boring. And despite his last name, he is not exactly a gross man (appearance-wise, atleast :) ).
very good teacher!!! recomended!!!!
Grossman is fantastic: A great way to start your morning! He cares about students and respects us. No need to buy texts, just take REALLY good notes and DON'T miss classes. Grossman is like Vitamin C, he helps you keep healthy! (and your GPA).
Was the lure that always made me show up for class....I knew it would be entertaining yet stimulating. Made me see recent history through revisionist eyes. Take any of his courses
He is an extremely understanding person. He is so helpful - gave me a chance at pulling my mark up when I probably didn't deserve it. Lectures are always interesting.
Enjoyed getting to class in the morning. Exams are fairly simple. Requires good notes and thorough review. Papers are marked a bit harder and he follows his own writing rules ( on my essay I consulted a UBC prof who questioned his marking)
This prof is the best, he makes each class worth attending. I love his crossword puzzles. A fair marker easy to get good grades. If your taking history he is a must.
has abit of an accent u need to get used to at first but he talks quite slowly so its easier to take notes, definitely one of the easiest and nicest teachers.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Keeps class interesting with intriguing topics and jokes. Develops a great rapport with the students which makes the students enjoy the class more. Fair marking and will gladly give you an extension w/good reasons.
Very good classes. Funny. Not an easy marker so much as teaches you exactly what you need to know. Dont have to read text, easy to get a grade if you attend all the classes
Does it hurt to say I used to have a crush on him at the beginning? Anyways, if u attend all classes, u don't need the text! U just need really good notes to do well on midterms. He keeps classes really interesting and his jokes are hilarious!
hard on document analysis
i love him. i love history. i'm in love.
Hah! If you are a good loking girl, this class will be a breeze!
tough year for some students
Attend the classes. Read the text if you expect to get 100% on test. Great teacher, who wants you to learn and goes easy on testing for the most part (includes crossword with tests - hint: leave nothing blank!)

Best prof I've ever had!! No one can come close to his teaching style and especially his jokes!
Great and interesting instructor. Creates fun environment in class and teaches so that the students remember information. Would recommend!
Grossman is fun. Good storyteller, informative, and relatively clear about expectations. Warning to new students, don't let confidence from 1st midterm prompt you to study less for the 2nd, you will fail the 2nd if you don't study.
If English is not ur 1st language, dun panic!Find somebody who write good notes, then u will be able to survive in this course.Exams(3)are very easy n each counts for 20%.u have to do 1 2800 words essay n a 800 words document analysis.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!
This man is one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. His lectures were a joy to attend, and he truly has a passion for his work.

I had Mr. Grossman for Hist. 1115 and 1130. He is a great storyteller and an easy marker. He insults his students sometimes. One time he looked up some girl's skirt in class and made jokes about her panty hose infront of the class!
Grossman is one of the best teachers at Langara. Sometimes hard to understand, but don't panic..if you attend class you'll do just fine. Great teacher!!!Taken most of his courses..wish i could take more...sigh
Two words: Great Man.
just awesome!
Such a smart prof, great teacher, if u miss anything, just ask, and he'll clarify it. I would think he has a phD. Makes history sound like a great story, and talks slowly so u can take notes.
THIS TEACHER IS THE ONLY REASON WHY I'M MAJORING IN HISTORY @ SFU! HE'S ONE OF THE BEST @ LANGARA-TRUST ME!PENDLETON, HAMER, CARR ARE THE TOP 3 ON MY LIST AS WELL!
One of the best teachers; very funny and kind hearted. Midterms are easy if you take good notes in class. DO NOT SKIP CLASS, because he bases everything on lectures notes. He's not uptight on precise dates and names, which makes it very easy.
he is a character. he knows his stuff, his lecture style is akin to story telling...no notes, just his knowledge of the events in question from off the top of his head. if you are taking more than one course with him you only have to write one paper. i loved his classes and found them very easy
He is awesome! He knows his stuff and is super helpful! Take his course!
great humour, very clear and concise. Adds a rare flare to the class!
An excellent teacher. Raoul makes the material he teaches fascinating and relates history like it's a story, not just a bunch of dates and events. The best professor at Langara, teaching-wise, hands down.
Cool teacher. Funny, nice, interesting to listen to. Exams are straightforward, paper and document analysis are harder. Only one paper if you take two classes though.
Very funny guy! He always spends the first 10 minutes cracking jokes and making comments. His lectures are interesting. Doesnt make you want to fall asleep. Midterms and papers are relatively easy as long as you study. Take any class with him and you wont regret it!
Take any class with him, you won't regret it. Funny, odd mannerisms, and (most importantly) HE KNOWS HIS****!
One of the worth teachers I've ever had. He has bad manner. Showinist with bad manner. His joes are horible and upleasant. I wonder why college doesnt do anything about it. He is not ethical person. He is waste of time. I don't recommend any of his course to anyone. Stay away from him.
Hard marker on written assignments. Great lecturer. Grossman lectures from memory, so he talks slow enough to write everything down, which is important because the tests are on the notes, not the txtbook, which is an optional buy.
Grossman was indespensible when I needed research material for the term paper. He emailed several articles and helped steer me in the right direction. He is specific about how you phrase ideas-doesn't appreciate mangled syntax-who does? Great lecturer. Recommended.
Those who rate him high are interested in his dirty jokes on women. He offend women. He is a dirty minded and I was surprise to see no one at college doesn't displine him for his behaviour. Teacher at langara can do anything and get away with it. It's a shame. Avoid him at all cost. Dirty man
Ignore the nasty ratings....Raoul is a great instructor and very funny. You'll love him unless you're uber-PC and have no sense of humor, or do poorly in the class due to issues of your own creation. Most students like being joked with and find the usual dispassionate classroom environment yawn-inducing.
Engaging lectures, fair marker, something of an anti-authoritarian streak. Has a unique and thoughtful perspective on many aspects of history. Very funny and charming guy with a cute accent.
I can understand why some women might feel uncomfortable with his behavious at times. Raoul is crazy. I mean that in the best way possible. He's passionate and his passion is infectious. He seems to have a great zest for every moment of existence. He doesn't mean anything bad and is mostly tripping on messing up the stuffy academic atmosphere.
I'm not sure if the college knows what a dirty man is teaching there. or they don't care. He is the most unpleasant person I ever had as an instructor. he is not helpful at all. he jokes around without helping you. He is not giving you a good mark as long as you don't fall into his dirty jokes.Very unfair person and unpleasant.don't take his cour
This is the greatest prof in the world. funny, helpful and makes you love history (tells it like a story)a great prof overall, highly recommended, take him you won't be sorry

Raoul is an awesome instructor. He really enjoys teaching. He speaks clearly and slowly, so you'll be able to take down notes. I love the accent. His "dirty" jokes are not bad. I didn't work that hard on the course, but I manage to get a B. So, if you want to ace this course, make sure to read his notes for the midterms and the final and to do the 2 papers. Highly recommended.
Interesting teacher
An excellent prof, the best at langara. Inspires, makes you laught and teaches you at the same time. All of those politically correct, up tight feminists don't know what they are talking about, laugh a little won't you.
Unreal teacher
I had to drop this class for lack of understanding half of what he was saying! I wish I had a translator to help me in the class^^
hes a good teacher and a funny guy...likes 2 joe alot....ONLY complain i have would be tryin 2 understand him bcuz he has a bit of a heavy accent....but i enjoyed his class alot
don't know what everyone is so thrilled about..yes he knows his stuff..but i found it a challenge to stay focusd in his class..and understand a lot of what he was saying..he is a fair marker however I did have to put effort into it and his tests were really not as "easy" as people were saying....he's ok but not vantastic
He has been the most enjoyable professor/teacher/instructor I have ever taken. I have learned a great deal from him. I almost hope he never retires!
I've taken several classes with him. To the casual observer it may seem like he's a bit nuts, but he's got a very deliberate plan for how he teaches you. He's got a great perspective, he's lively, he's helpful and he's one of the easier markers out there. My only warnings: 1) Attend class & take detailed notes 2) Get ready to be embarrassed!
he's absolutely insane, but in a good way. He basically paces back and forth telling stories and you write them down as fast as you can. At first you may be confused by his ecceentricness, but he does that on purpose to get rid of free-loaders. then it's all fun and games. His exams even include crossword puzzles. I refuse to take anyone else.

I took 3 classes from him. Brilliant chap! GPA booster as well, just memorize terms and names before the tests, you'll d fine. he gives u the final before u do it. when i transferred to UBC i kept bumping into people who had taken multiple classes from Raoul which had boosted their GPA's. He's a brilliant chap, I highly recommend his classes.
I LOVE HIM. and I recommend him 100%. I've taken alot of classes with him. You can't go wrong. Just remember go to class, take notes, especially the words he puts on the board, they WILL be on the exam. He jokes around a lot and tells stories which makes history interesting. Get ready to be embaressed cuz he will pick on you at one point or another
I loved his class. He's like a crazy uncle that tells war stories at the campfire. perfect way to invite his students in. I enjoyed his "qvirkee" humour and cherman accent. Fun class, fairly easy on tests (if you actually study of course!) made history enjoyable.
Complex issues, nicely packaged
Best Prof yet.
What can be said about this man? He's complex. Nearly everything he says and does has a meaning. Your every interaction with him includes a clue as to what you SHOULD be doing. He bases his course on the lectures so attendence is mandatory if you want to succeed. He's Certainly a bit ****ous, but more of the harmless variation of the vice.
he's a awesome teacher very funny
Funniest teacher at Langara and a very chill individual. He makes pretty funny references to pop culture and music. He will ridicule you and target you if you are shy....but it is in all good fun. I will be definately taking courses with him in the future.
A quirky bit of fresh air in the morning. Funny but relevant, and exteremely engaging. He made the subject matter interesting and highly palateable. I'll take his classes whenever possible.
He is that kind of instructor that you want to go to school to see everyday. very friendly and soo helpfulll when you need him. he is very nutral and teaches the history without taking sides. he know his job and does it well. cheers Mr. Grossman
Funny geezer, i ll miss him a lot. exams are very easy, and essays are quite hard.
Extremely good guy... if u re shy he will make fun of u, and try to make u more comfortable... If you need any help, don't hesitate in email him your questions...
I've had him for history of WWI, and given I don't care for history at all. He makes it absolutely facinating and he is absolutely hilarious. Very interesting stories, great speaker. Those who find him hard, probably never showed up or took notes. He basically tells u what will be on the exam. I've almost never study for his classes and got a B.
He is a great teacher! He is funny and his lectures are interesting. Attendance is not manditory but his tests are entirely based on the notes you take in class while he teaches. He is very lenient and a good reason to get up for his 8:30 class.
Funnnnny guy. listened in class, took notes, hardly studied, got an A+ on my midterm. I have no interest in the subject, but he does make it more interesting than it really is. The accent is easy to understand, don't be fooled.
Excellent instructor! Grading is fairly balanced, with incredibly easy exams (provided you attended class and studied at least a little), balanced with reasonably difficult paper grading. Easy enough that you don't sweat passing, difficult enough that you really feel you've earned your A
I am presently taking his course and am pleasantly surprised. I love his teaching style. Very knowledgeable and passionate. History jumps to life through his entertaining facial expressions and body language. He is a great prof?not just a mouthpiece?he?d also make a great actor.
HARD MARKER when it comes to ESSAYS. He will never give you an A for an essay even if it is well deserved. The highest he will go on an essay is B plus. He needs to lighten up and give a fair mark to well written essays. His short answer questions during midterms are fair, and he marks them fairly.
He is guilty of mark fixing; the highest he'll go on essays is B plus even if the essay is well written and deserves an A. Good students put up with his garbage and eccentricity throughout the semester only to end up with a B plus on an essay deserving an A. I consider this to be an unethical practice.
Wow. Raoul is the best teacher I have ever had. He is interesting, informative and extremely entertaining. I disagree with comments about his marking. He will give A's on good papers. Tests are easy and the info sticks in your mind if you attend lectures. He really makes you want to come to school.
He is entertaining making fun of the students, and when it comes to teaching, his painfully slow speaking with excessive pauses in between doesn't help. It is true that the highest he'll go on essays is only B+
There is no doubt that he marks essays very hard, but it is not impossible to get an A. Show interest in your topic and write eloquently and intelligently and you will do fine. Otherwise, a great lecturer and very interesting man. He can be weird at times, but I would higly recommend him, as he is very smart and knowledgable about history.
*Learning how to spell essay may be a good start.
It is not impossible to get an A on his papers or exams, I've done both. Definitely a strange, borderline inappropriate sense of humour, but an engaging and thorough lecturer, and a great perspective on history, especially following concepts as we did in this course. Exams ARE random, but thorough comprehension of the material gets a decent mark.
Had Raoul for History 1115 and 1130 and I can honestly say that he was the best prof I had at Langara. He makes history fun and that is not very easy. Attend all classes and you will be fine! Textbook is useless as his exams are straight from his class lectures. If any student gets a bad mark, it is the students own fault. I highly recommend
Fantastic teacher. Attend every class, and take lots of notes! His tests are from his lectures and the definitions of the words he writes on the board. For essays, you do need to put in a lot of work, but he helps you with material if you have trouble finding some. Really funny & energetic. Makes 8.30am classes worth it! I highly recommend him.
Odd but fantastic. Best teacher ever. He makes school fun and enjoyable.
He is by far the wittiest teacher I ever had. His jokes might be a little out of your comfort zone, but he's so funny! He is also an engaging teacher and makes class very enjoyable.
Awesome teacher just take good notes and memorize them, hes awesome would definitely recommend!
I took a class with Professor Grossman last term and he is very witty and cheeky in class which makes him very engaging, but he also had a wealth of knowledge regarding history. He is always quick to reply to emails if you're seeking help. HOWEVER, I will say that this is not an easy course if you're not willing to do your research
Awesome class! Great teacher as well. I took three of his classes ( 1114, 2231 and 1118). I loved all of them! Because although he favors some of his students ( usually the one's he has had before) , he is also really helpful and a good marker.
Oh man what an amazing professor! I wish he taught all my lectures! Never have I taken a course and had the history lesson painted so beautifully! The tests re based primarily on notes and he marks your papers easily, provided you do the research.
*sniff* This awesome prof has now retired. I just finished 2 summer courses with him (his last ones). He was fantastic, made class so enjoyable. I've never taken any history course before, and now he's made me want to continue taking more. Will miss him.
This is the best teacher I ever had in any school at any level. I took 6 courses with him at Langara. He revived my interest in school, and made it possible for me to transfer to UBC. If it wasn't for him, there's no way I would have ever become a lawyer. Thanks Mr. Grossman!
Do not take any course with him. He is a dirty joker... not sure what he says half of the time. He actually kept my essay until the next day of last course drops. so I couldnt drop his course and faild it... He killed my GPA. On average am A student. imagine how brutal he was.... DO NOT TAKE any course with him!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had him for history about 10 years ago. Every class was like watching a movie, or like listening to a story.
