Do NOT take his class. I have never in all my life had a teacher that was so unclear with what he wanted on his assignments and will take points off with no way to get these points back. Won't take any late assignments resulting in an automatic 0. If you want an A, it is nearly impossible to get one in his class, save your time and money.
Very uptight, and strict. Won't accept any assignments late no matter the circumstances. Is completely un empathetic, is so unclear about what we have to do in class and with the hw. He just expects us to know what he means. Also his writing and grammar is questionable :l 100% don't recommend this prof. Sorry
A walking contradiction. Expects u to devote your life to his class as he is late with little notice, unprofessional and gives terrible demonstrations. Harsh grader while instructions are vague. Truly should not be an educator and should be fired, whoever hired him should be fired too, truly insane to me how he is an ENGLISH TEACHER. DON'T TAKE!!
my name is nolan wirchansky and this is the worst professor ive ever had. before quarantine i had done both of the writing assignments he had assigned to us and submitted them to blackboard and both times there was an issue with submission. when i asked if i could resubmit them the next day for a grade he refused. he made me feel unmotivated.
Excellent professor he always give good feedback backs on how to improve on your next paper. The class was fun and I learned a lot. For those of you thats complaining, maybe if you had done your work, attend classes and participate a little bit then you wouldnt fail. Inenjoyed his class and did get the grade I wanted Nateisha C. Thanks Mr allen
Professor Allen helps you to. be your best self.
If I could give him a 0, I would. By far the worst prof ever. Those "5" ratings are probably fake. I received an A and I did all my work but he still indeed is a horrible prof. He always shows up late, has a concerning amount grammar erros for an English prof. EXTREMELY harsh, doesn't care about his students. Please do not take. He's a joke. HORRID
Offers lots of extra credit and extra help. Always provides in class group work and participation matters.
Professor Allen is the best he is very helpful and fair. He does not have attendance policy but you definitely should attend to better grasp the material. As long you participate and do the assignments you should be good.
Professor Allen definitely pushes his students. He can be perceived as a hard teacher but if you ask questions and ensure clarity, you can do well. He responds respectfully and is easily accessible outside of class time. He does care about his students and especially with COVID, has tried to make class time an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Not the best at giving students more for assignments like we have other classes too
Professor Allen has been great at executing the English lectures, he is an all round teacher and knows how to reasonably push the class so that every pupil reaches their highest potential. Having online lectures has not been easy for me but I have to admit that attending his English class has been one of my Semesters highlights.
Would not recommend this class. Professor is poor at explain the work, shows up late, goofs around with students. He does not give credit to the students who try. Will not allow you to resubmit work for more points. If it's late it's a 0. "Do it right the first time" No guidance. Does offer extra credit, but if you're behind it's not enough.
Don't do it to yourself. The class would be way better if someone else taught it. He misses things while reading. Always messes up classes. Mixes up grades and classes. Super unorganized. Very confusing course. Nothing is criteria, just what he thinks about teaching us at the time. His writing is not good.. but will BUTCHER you about yours.
One of the worst professors I have ever had in wcc. Gives terrible instructions for assignments and is very unclear, gives you incomplete assignments even if you did them, tries to be too friendly and weirdly political. definitely feels forced on you. definitely not taking a class from this prof. ever again.
Professor Allen is a horrible professor. In the very beginning I was getting B+ and A's and all of a sudden my work wasn't to his standards. I got went for online tutoring showed the tutor my paper. They only saw one issue and said they didn't see anything wrong. He gave me a low grade mind you I re-write the paper 3 times!!
Worst english class Ive ever taken
He is one of the worst teachers Ive ever had. He makes the class not enjoyable and really awkward. He is not a teacher that is good at communicating outside of the classroom. His assignments are weirdly complex and he doesnt clearly state what we have to do for that assignment.
I thought he was a pretty good professor. He has a good attitude and personality which makes class fly by.
He brings a lot of energy to class, I think he is very well versed in the subject however the class that I took named life writing seemed to be his first journey into the subject. It did not help matters that the class only consisted of 6 people. I got a lot out of it but I think it was by accident as his class lessons seemed to be thrown together.
To pass this class with an A all you need to do is stay on top of all due dates. 95% of assignments are available in the syllabus from day 1. To make life easy, complete assignments ahead of time and meet with him in office hours, this way you can get feedback on your assignment or paper before turn in date. Implement feedback it's that simple.
Great Professor! Learned a lot. Do your reading assignments; take notes in class; projects are challenging and inspiring - if you need help with assignments Prof. will assist. I will definitely take it again.
Prof. Allen is a very nice person and means well. However, his class was difficult and oddly structured. In the beginning I was doing well. Then all of a sudden the course load became very heavy with not so great instruction on assignments and papers. Also the class was held twice and week and he would only have one class a week.
He has to break the homework little by little to make it easier for students to understand instead of having a lot of paragraph and having unfamiliar words that they don't know about to much.
A good class, and learned a good deal more about poetry than I did before. I did not care for group assignments, other group members did not complete their part and we ended up loosing points. I wish the professor would be more lenient with work that was only couple days late, perhaps take five points off per day vs. a flat out zero.
His descriptions of work is awful, his grading is super strict, either you did it absolutely correct or lose half the points total. Forces ideas onto you through material read. Many group projects with poor directions, 6 page essays that would be perfect as a 3 page essay, A poor teacher, says presenting group work is optional but takes 50% away
You ever have a teacher that always sucks to go to? or always causes trouble no matter how well you think you did? well this is him. Extremely strict grading, annoying and VERY unclear directions. He is bad at getting back to you and helping. He rather say "sucks to suck" than help you. All around bad teacher
Very fun Professor. Grading is fair and assignments are manageable. Have taken this professor twice.
- Good at finding relevant examples for learning - Conveys material well and always makes time for students to ask questions - Makes clear where and when to find outside of class for help - Open to feedback and suggestions from students
He explains the work in a clear manner.
Great Professor! Learned a lot. Do your reading assignments; take notes in class. If you need help with assignments Prof. will assist. I will definitely take it again.
Work together as a team, making sure that we are all on the same page when asking questions for the topics, assignments, and quiz, and most important my friends is to never give up and believe in yourself.
One that surprised me was the professor's flexibility and wanting to make sure the class was up to speed on everything before moving on and his ability to break down his lessons in diverse ways to where the class can better understand.
Terrible...
he is awesome and vigilant, he gives extra credits and assignments might be a little bit challenging that's if he didn't give enough information on the homework. he might be a little bit strict when it comes to his gradings but overall has a very funny humor, tries to lighten the mood of the class when gloom and dull with his jokes.
I really did not enjoy my semester with this professor. He graded harshly and didn't teach well overall.
Professor Allen is truly the best English professor you will have. He is intelligent and very caring towards his students. He gives many extra credit assignments and his work isn't challenging as long as you stay on top of the work, easy assignments but grading is from the rubrics only. Great professor, I highly recommend him!!!!!
This English 101 is very easy all you have to do is show up and do the work which is fairly easy to complete, the only aspect that I didn't like was the group work due to being paired multiple times with people who didn't do much and when confronting prof Allen he wasn't much help, Prof Allen also gives out a good amount of extra Credit assignments
Would be hardest class for incoming freshman to take.
do not take this professor. worst idea I ever had. should've dropped him when I had the chance. whatever you do, don't take this guy
Prof. Allen is extremely knowledgeable and an interactive person. I felt his class so helpful and always gave his time for his students. There were lots of assignments but gave extension when needed. U just have to put extra effort and do your homework's, assignments as recommended by him with sincerity to achieve good grades.
Professor Allen is very perky and enthusiastic. He provides all the information needed to write papers. He gives lots of chances for extra credit. He is a tough grader though. He sets a certain rubric and follows a certain guideline that he provides students with so if you follow it you will get a good/fair grade. This class is writing heavy.
A lot of the negative feedback here given by other students are true. He is too strict on deadlines, too much HW and weirdly told our class his salary doesn't change based upon student performance. He promoted for us to rate him here and does the bare minimum to make himself not look so bad with extra credit. He gets a kick out of failing students.
Professor Allen is a great professor he teaches very well and wants his to succeed in his class
deadlines are super strict, not very clear feedback, doesn't really seem organized, instructions can be vague, and has a lot of group assignments which heavily rely on everyone in the group not only you, but he is very nice and is willing to listen
Honestly i don't know how other people are giving him 5 for quality, his quality was awful, horrible, unorganized, horrible at explaining things, his directions on assignments are unclear, grades as if his life depends on it, overall avoid this professor
Prof. Allen is an excellent professor that expects the best from his students. He has a well outlined syllabus and discusses deadlines well before assignments are due. He gives good instructions and grades FAIRLY. If you are a lazy student you will find his curriculum overwhelming. If you follow instructions you'll be fine. He responds to emails.
TERRIBLE!!!, he doesn't listen when you call him out on something fairly reasonable he gets defensive and gaslights the hell out of you. Says "don't trust what i say" many student quoted him. Worked on group assignment alone and told him that, and i still got penalized for a student not attending. Grades very harshly, and has an "oh well" mindset.
Used textbook like twice, unclear rubric.Takes pts off of some students but when i fact checked with another he didn't take pts off for them. Aggressively defensive and used the fact that if i wanted to dispute a grade my meeting wouldn't be until months later to deter me from scheduling one, then proceeded to laugh about it. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Professor Allen is a good professor a little weird but funny and has a good sense of humour. He does a lot of group assignments. All he wants is his students to succeed and elevate in their writing and research and public speaking, which is what the class is about. I recommend this class to someone who is willing to get out of their comfort zone.
Professor Allen does not grade fairly. He has said things, in real life before, towards points we will receive towards a project, but when we fact check him, he says "If I didn't write it down, then don't take my word for it". He also admitted to skimming through our work... so, how can he grade it properly to begin with?
This professor uses old material, and old examples. He attaches them to his assignments as an "example" but says not to use it as an example. Why be lazy? Why not update your directions to clear confusion on how to do the assignment. Besides that old example, there are no ways to see how to lay it out... it ensures you can get points taken away.
For upcoming people about to take this class BE WARNED AND STRAY AWAY he is a very tough grader and doesnt even listen to peoples questions in class instead saying "can we put your question on the chopping block and get to it later" guess what he never got back to that students question he is a very gaslighting person that always makes jokes
Does not make any clear instructions for any assignment he gives and when you confront him about it he said if he didnt write that down then it didnt happen when he could literally tell you the opposite in class and he never gives people a 100 because he is such a hard grader expect an 80 to be your new form a 100 such a unserious teacher.
Hey so um, don't take this class guys. He's an interesting professor character wise...but he is very shifty especially when it comes to making clear instructions. Expect 3-5 business days for a response after sending an email, do yourself a favor and take another class :D
A really bad teacher do not take this class again
My English teacher is kind but inconsistent, often denying his own statements and demanding proof. His harsh grading and overwhelming workload are demoralizing. He manipulates and gaslights students, shows blatant favoritism, and becomes defensive when questioned. His deceptive behavior and passive-aggressive comments create a toxic environment. 😢
WARNING: He's a bad teacher. His rubric is unclear, and he often forgets its contents, leading to confusing and contradictory instructions. He advises not to trust his verbal directions unless written, which complicates assignments. His tasks are poorly structured, and he can be difficult to communicate with. Overall, the experience is frustrating.
Do not take this professor
Prof Allen is really insightful and gives good feedback would highly recommend this class
The only real good thing was the extra credit assignments (1 of which you had to buy his book to complete) Other than that, the guy assigns not a lot of actual assignments, but the assignments are a lot. Two research papers worth almost 500 points, and many assignments dealing with that. It takes a very long time. He gets defensive if questioned.
Bad just bad
Extremely tough grader. If you want a decent grade take a different class.
I took his class and he was very enthusiastic, I love being a scholunteer although, he taught me a lot he was kinda mid he critiqued my work roughly in front of other students which was a bit embarrassing. Overall he was a mid teacher but to each their own right. -Natasha
Allen is very much so a mixed bag. His grading is very tough, unclear at times and can get fairly stressful. However his grading is consistent, so gaining an understanding is possible. Furthermore, there's an abundance of extra credit to take advantage of. If you turn up to class, put in the hours and speak to him in office hours, you'll be fine.
WORST PROFFESOR, IVE HAD! If he's teaching your course and you can drop, definitely drop it. There is SO MUCH homework and group work, and he is an extremly tough grader. He gives such low grades if even if you follow the rubric, he's very unclear with that. tone seemed very condescending or almost rude when trying to voice an issue with grading.
His grading is absolutely horrible he warns you in the beginning of class his rate my professor score isn't good and has bad reviews, there's a reason… he barely teaches the class he relies on you reading about what he suppose to teach you. If you're missing one thing he will give u a 0 for your entire project/essay. for your future drop the class.
Very hard grader. Will make you revise an assignment if missing one simple thing. Way too much side work for main assignments. Rubric is never clear and hard to follow. Difficult to get a hold off outside of school.
His grading system is TOUGH! He asks his students for feedback but doesn't make any adjustments. He takes points off EVERYTHING! I tried really hard to give him grace despite his bad rating here, but he makes it impossible. If you want to pass, choose another professor. This doesn't feel like English 102, feels like i am going for my PHD.
Very tough grader, and doesn't give grace. His grading system makes it hard for you to past. He post assignments then he will edit it after, which makes it hard for you to complete the assignment ahead of time. A lot of class dropped out, i wish i did as well when i had the chance.
He was ok, funny, and made the class fun, but he is a TOUGH grader. He has no sympathy, especially during our midterm week, for assigning a group project and a 250-point essay on Easter? He doesn't accept any late work and was very clear on that. Although he gives the courtesy of one revision. He isn't the best, but there are worse teachers.
Tough grader but understandable. Make sure you perfect your MLA formatting for his class, he is very strict about it. Very straightforward. Allows revisions of group projects and papers, which is great. A lot of extra credit opportunities and easy points from focused freewrites. Overall, a nice and caring person! Loved his class! -Sashenka
Was unclear with instructions and rubric and when confronted about the contradicting wording I was basically told it wasn't his problem TWICE and for me not to “freak out” on two separate assignments , super un serious teacher, will change instruction for assignments after they've been graded too and will over lap assents due dates back to back
Honestly, one of the worst professors I've ever had. Not only was he extremely unclear with all his directions, but he would also change the assignment criteria before the due date. He allows you to redo your work for a better grade, but makes things very complicated and confusing. The tone of voice he uses is very condescending.
Dude tells me am not going to pass you, but I will talk to other professors that will? It makes no sense. I felt disrespected. I don't know if he saw the Hispanic on my face. If you are not white or black you should not take this class, females are always welcome to him.
A super harsh grader with unclear instructions. I withdrew while I could and feel sorry for those who stayed; it's a HUGE GPA risk. I saw a review that said he told a student, "You're not going to pass, but I'll talk to other professors who will." I believe it. That review also raised concerns about possible bias; the dynamic in class felt uneven.
Prof. Allen's teaching style is engaging and effective, and he uses a variety of techniques to support student learning. At times, his course instructions can be unclear, but he is always willing to clarify when asked. After offering an explanation, he follows up to ensure that you understood. D.W.
Professor Allen never makes his assignments clear and always changes them when they are close to due date and even makes the updates unclear. Has his favorites and it becomes clear after the first few assignments are handed out. Class WILL hurt your GPA and do not expect him to give you a second chance after you clearly didn't have the time.
He's not to bad. He is very unclear sometimes. One day he'll make an assignment then changes his mind and the grading criteria. He is a tough grader. But he's engaging, funny, and is very easy to communicate.
Avoid this class if you care about your GPA. He's a very condescending man who talks down to students, gives vague instructions, and grades way too hard. Even when you try your best, it feels impossible to do well. Definitely not worth the stress.
He laughs at our failure. I did well in the class with an A or A- but its so intimidating? He also grades not on the rubric but by his opinion and he makes you buy his books (despite them being extra credit). Any time he emails you his books are advertised right underneath. Takes himself too seriously.
I really do not know how to feel about this guy, and I genuinely mean it. Yeah sure, he can get funny, but he is awfully passive aggressive at times and he also gave a good chunk of the class an undeserved C in the annotated bibliography assignment?? He also acts condescending. Does not give much homework, but it takes a lot of your time.
Find another Professor if you can
Lazy grader, was told it was bare minimum to grade for things on his own rubric and he responded no it's not because it will take too much time. I don't think anything else needs to be said about this professor that one experience was enough to know what I was in for this semester. He is very passive aggressive.
This class was fairly easy, I found that the professor gave really simple instructions and his assignments were easy to follow and understand. The grading is very fair and as long as you complete the work correctly and you participate you will be fine.
I liked Prof. Allen because he followed what he laid out in the syllabus and as long as you follow instructions and submit work on time, he is super helpful and fair. He gave me lots of specific feedback which I liked. Thanks :-)
Do all assignments and attend all classes and you'll be guaranteed an A
If you take his class, you might as well drop out!
Pro Allen was very straight forward He means what he says in regard to being on time with his assignments Alot of structured research and writing I took this class online and I love how he made sure we were included in everything. Watch his videos read his power points and ask questions. You will need his help, and he is very responsive to emails
