he is rather intimidating and very smart but i had an extremely difficult time in class. he is not easily approachable as a professor, but seems like a nice person outside of school. i really did not like this class overall
Lectures are straightforward, emphasizes notes that will be on exams. Relies on T.A.s to assist with outside learning of material. Other than that easy class if you go.
Great guy, good class, funny as hell. I'll remember his class forever because I remember going to his class right after the plane crash on 9/11.
Pretty tough class. It was a honor's course so it was expected but he's on a completely different level and unless you love econ I would avoid him. He's very kind and approachable, and granted economics is not my forte, but his class is not an easy A. He expects you to REALLY understand the material and to be able to apply it to any given problem.
(Honors) I personally enjoyed the class a lot. It was difficult, but he did an excellent job of involving the class and making us go through the thought process ourselves to figure it out. He is from Jordan, but he is easy to understand. Grading is fair, but be prepared to work hard. Don't miss any more classes than absolutely necessary.
Homework was easy, ll online, gives you multiple tries and you see the answer when you get it wrong the first time. attendance is optional, but not really. You need to be there because the tests are pretty hard, be prepared to study more than you're used to. gives "quizzes" when class starts that don't count for anything, but can bump your grade up
Awesome
Great energetic personality. Does not use power point. Explains everything so clearly that you do not need to read the book. Attendance is not required, but if you miss a class you will be lost.
Loved him! Go to class and you'll be fine
Awesome class! Great teacher and does a really good job of explaining everything in detail. Definitely need to study for tests, but it was worth it!
If you make an effort to make yourself known to him he will move heaven and earth for you. He even helped me write an English paper over the economic recession and all I had to do is email him. If you get the chance take this mans class. But come prepared everyday and be respectful
If you show up and pay attention in class you hardly even have to study for exams. He makes the material interesting and applicable. By far my favorite professor this semester.
He is very knowledgable on the subject. His teaching philosophy is to teach through examples He does multiple examples to make sure you are well versed in the topic. Knowing definitions and formula's is only half of the story. His exams consist of 75% real world problems and the rest definitions, etc. By no means leave his class early. Just Don't!!
Great guy, great teacher, and real world examples. You had better study for the tests. They are harder than you think they will be.
I hated this class. He offered no notes, or power-points everything felt like he was talking at the class. He made it very hard to understand how to solve the problems when it came to test time. Studying is the most important thing in this class and watch a lot of Youtube videos. I am not going to lie some students liked his teaching style. I don't
This is a GREAT teacher, and very effective. This taught me so much about International Economics and made it very interesting.
I am not very good at Economics, but Al-Hmoud's teaching style really helped. No powerpoint, all lecture so attend every class and pay attention. Do the assigned homeworks and study the lecture notes and you will do just fine. He explains things clearly and easily. Not hard if you just take good notes.
Dr. Al-Hmoud is a great professor. I had him for both micro and macroeconomics. He makes lectures interesting and easy to keep up with. The tests are taken from his lecture and the book; if you keep up with the material an A is definitely feasible. I have really enjoyed taking his classes and wish that he would teach the rest of my ECO classes!
He is not clear on anything. Wonder why he is even teaching. Should sit at home. No respect... no nothing. He himself does not know how he is teaching the class. Hops around here and there throughout the semester. Changes mind too frequently. No respect for students or their time.
Dr. Al-Hmoud is THE professor to take for economics. For one, he speaks crystal clear English unlike many of the other sections. He doesn't use the book as much as people think, but the hw comes straight out of the book (it's online). His tests are a mixture of lectures and hw. Attendance isn't mandatory but he has random "quizzes" to track it.
Teaches the subject better than anyone.
He is very funny about how he runs the classes and with his examples. There are a few quizzes, but not hard at all if you pay attention in class and do the readings. He like to help in whatever way he can, so don't be afraid to ask questions. Good teacher!
Professor Hmoud is a great educator. I took him for both micro and macro economics and enjoyed both classes. His class isn't easy however if you pay attention and attend every lecture he explains the subject with clarity. He is always willing to help students who show effort. Grade A professor.
I took honors ECO2302 and it has been the hardest course Ive taken. He is very helpful and if you pay attention you should be ok. But his tests are by no means easy, I only passed 1/3 tests, but I made a B on the final and made a B in the course. He is very generous in his grading if he sees that youre trying. Tests are nothing like ?s in the book.
Take any class you can with Professor Al-Hmoud!! He genuinely cares about his students. If you are struggling with a concept go to his office hours and he will take the necessary amount of time to help you understand
Although a tough professor, he is relatable and is willing to help people. His lectures are entertaining. I would pick him over a TA every day.
I really enjoyed this class, though the exams are difficult. You can earn extra credit by answering questions correctly in class. He typically lets you out of class about 10 minutes early so if you are confused I highly suggest going to talk to him after class, he is very helpful. I would highly recommend him especially if you struggle with econ.
I took the Honors section & it was the best class of my semester. I was nervous because I had no true ECO background, but he taught extremely well and would always clarify if we were confused. The first test was tough, but after I knew how to study and prepare. I would definitely recommend Dr. Al-Hmoud to anyone. I will really miss this class!
Take this professor!!!!!!!!!!! He is amazing, offers help if needed, understands life and will work with you. Tests weigh a lot and are difficult but he has great lectures and funny!
Funny, involving, thought-provoking, and helpful, Mr. Al-Hmoud makes Economics fun to learn.
Al-Hmoud gets off topic very easily, for honors economics he expects WAY more and therefore grades harder. Doesn't teach out of textbook and changes syllabus often. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you skip he will be less inclined to help you. Not very accessible outside of class.
If you're in ECO2305, I would suggest this professor!! You learn so much in his lectures, one homework every Sunday and then 3 exams. If you want an A you need to study more than just the night before. I could get B's on exams from just paying attention in class. You might have an easier time making an A with another prof, but Rashid is super cool
Dr. Al-Hmoud is a phenomenal professor. I took the Honors section of the course and it was great. He holds the honors students to a slightly higher standard than the regular course. 4 exams. 1 reflection paper. 10% of your grade is myeconlab homework. Can be slightly challenging but overall a great experience with a well qualified professor.
Probably the best professor I had. He really knows about the subject since he was involved in writing the textbook used. Great lectures, if you participate and pay attention you would get an A. Even though I missed some classes at the end of the semester, he was veery available and open to help me catch up. Exams are similar to homework.
Professor Al-Hmoud is an amazing professor, he knows how to explain things using real world examples so you can see it clearer. Since he's such an educated man the work in there is not easy, I've stayed up the whole night before every test reviewing the material but it never paid off. And there's no exceptions of any kind in his class.
Al-Hmoud has been my favorite professor. He teaches economics using real life examples that make the concepts easy to understand. Tests are extremely difficult, but if you study hard and take good notes, youll do great! Favorite class ive taken so far and will use the knowledge i gained from this class when im in the business world. Take him!
He is the best professor I have ever had in college. He cares about his students and is just overall a great professor. I learned to love economics because of him. You need to go to class because it is difficult if you don't, but really easy if you do!
The best lecturer I've had at Tech! The way he teaches just makes the subject so fun. However, the test are hard and you have to study for them. If you go to class (take good notes), do the homework, and occasionally read the textbook you should be fine. But for sure study!!! highly recommend taking him though if you really want to learn.
He's not a very good teacher. Good dude, always telling jokes and stuff, but honestly it just wastes class time, and when most of my class failed one of the exams, he gave us a lecture, saying we were stupid and not trying hard enough. A joke of a professor in a joke of a class, skip this dude and this subject if you can, it's a waste of time.
I was in Dr. Al-Hmoud's Honors economics class, and it was unnecessarily hard. We had regular homework that was not too difficult, and it covered the topics well. The tests, however, were the opposite. Dr. Al-Hmoud seems to think that making a test over material not yet covered is a great way to keep students on their toes. Spoiler alert: it isn't.
One of my favorite professors I've had in college. He is open to questions and is more concerned about making sure you understand the material than getting through his agenda.
Before online classes, he had great lectures that were actually interesting to listen to. He is really good at explaining everything and making sure you understand what he's talking about. When online classes started the lectures were not as good and beneficial as they were in person, but that was not his fault. The tests are difficult, study.
Al-Hmoud is an awesome professor. He is very specific in what he needs from you in order to pass his class. His lectures are thorough so make sure you take notes because the tests are difficult without them. Very nice but will enforce the rules if need be.
Dr. Al Hmoud is an amazing professor. He talks about economics in terms of modern interests and issues so his lectures are engaging and interesting. I definitely learned a lot in his class without realizing it. He has homeworks due every Sunday and they're pretty easy. If you do them you'll do great on the exams. (3 midterms 1 final). Online text.
Dr. Al Hmoud is a funny/charismatic professor who cares about his students. Had him for an honors class & he knew everyone by name. Participate/listen in class, read what he says to read outside of class to study for his relatively difficult tests, and you will be fine. Ask him about Young Thug
Easy class not much homework. He would assign it Thursday and it be due Sunday and he would announce whenever quizzes would happen. Test were okay just study for them overall cool professor and average class take notes and study even just for a bit honestly should be fine an A is possible for sure.
Great prof, really helps you if you're struggling. He encourages just trying so it doesn't matter if you're wrong. Tests are based on the homework so not too difficult. Really great guy and makes you understand a really hard class.
This class wasnt too bad for an online class and remotely everything on tests were pulled straight from homeworks or quizzes. he gives pop quizzes in class so definitely try to go for those but otherwise he didnt care about attendance. Went off topic a lot during lecture which wasnt too bad except you didnt learn as much as needed sometimes.
Easily my favorite professor at Texas Tech. He is very good at helping people to understand but does make you work for the grade. I took the class over the summer so it was a bit intensive but definitely worth it. Class is not mandatory if the opportunity cost is greater than attending class, he does not care. Definitely recommend attending class.
Can be difficult, but is a fun professor that is very interactive. Homework assigned Thursday, due Sunday.
The homework is assigned Thursday and due Sunday, it wasn't difficult at all. This teachers lectures went so off topic I really struggled learning the material needed for the exams. Exams are weighted super heavy and were pretty difficult. This teacher doesn't offer extra credit, bonus questions, or any curves on exams. I dont recommend this class.
Hi exams are very difficult and he doesn't give extra credit at all.
The homework in the class was easy. But, the lectures were very off topic which made the exams very hard. Exams are in person. There are pop quizzes that are participation and count for attendance. I would not recommend taking this class.
attendance is not mandatory BUT he does give random pop quizzes that you will earn a 0 for if you are absent. The. tests. are. impossible. I don't even know what to study. I could study for 4 weeks straight and still get 75 because you simply arent told what to study so you try to study every word he says. not sufficient.
Pay attention in class and you'll be fine. He's a funny lecturer and the tests are about average difficulty. Puts out quizzes for attendance every week or so.
Great lectures but incredibly difficult exams. Attendance isn't necessarily 'mandatory' but he doesn't post notes and there's no extra credit; therefore you either show up or fail. Head's up-there's one 'pop-quiz' essentially every week. My friends got A's in Econ because they had an easier professor. If you're not an Econ major, don't take him!
I've taken this class twice. Last time was with "Ersong Li" (look him up). compared to taking this class with other professors. Taking 2305 with Rashid is the best your going to get. He teaches everything from memory so you have to sit close to the front to try to focus for 1 h 15m. GO TO CLASS and you should do well. Do the hw's to study for exams
This was my favorite class this semester. Dr. Al-Hmoud is a great professor who is very passionate about what he is teaching and cares that his students are understanding and actively participating in class. I would highly recommend taking this class.
Professor Al-Hmoud is a very passionate instructor. He is very good at providing valuable and relevant information. He does a great job of incorporating student interaction within his lectures and wants you to learn. Extra credit is easy to earn and exams are not difficult.
Great lectures. Although he gets side tracked for about half the lecture and just talks to the people at the front of the classroom. Only a few homeworks so if you do bad the first test I recommend dropping. Also does absolutely 0 extra credit. Would not recommend if you are not a good test taker.
This was my favorite class this semester. Dr. Al-Hmoud was very passionate during the lectures and tried to keep things engaging for students, although he would often get sidetracked. Weekly homework assignments were easy, and exams were just recycled homework questions. We did have to write an 8-page paper before the final, which seemed excessive.
Very inspirational way of teaching and make the material easy to understand, no need to use books for this class cause everything on the exam will be teach in class and based on the hw. Don't get discourage if you did a bad grade, the lowest exam is 10% so you will have chances to recover.
This class was probably my favorite this semester. He teaches the material in a way that is easy to understand and offers plenty of examples. He doesn't use or post PowerPoints/notes, so go to class! This class is really not hard if you show up and pay attention. I recommend going to the SI sessions, especially the exam reviews.
If you are an Econ major, this is the class for you, he has very good lectures. However, he does not post power points, there are pop quizzes randomly at the beginning of classes. The only reason I am passing the class is because the HW is easy. The tests are just so hard. I missed maybe one classes the whole semester and still never passes a test.
Rates highest exam score at 20%, middle at 15%, and lowest at 10%. Only need an 87 to make an A, and the exams are very doable if you do the homework. ATTENDING CLASS IS THE ONLY WAY TO DO WELL. He will give you questions directly from class talks, so be careful.
at least 1 easy pop quiz a week
I wouldn't take this if you need notes/powerpoint slides. He does not have a homework schedule, so you never know when you're going to have homework. Homework and attendance make up 25% of your grade, and the rest are midterms/finals. however, he doesn't want you to fail and will try and help to the best he can. you HAVE to study for a good grade.
Genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had, and gets an easy perfect score. He gives minimal homework, his tests are long but by no means impossible, and hands out extra credit like it's candy on Halloween. Also, just a super funny and helpful guy. HIGHLY reccomend.
He gets ideas across very well and always has an engaging class. Often offers bonus points for answering questions. Exams are weighted based on relative performance, so the lowest is worth less than your highest. Homework and exams are heavily based on lecture topics.
He is a great professor I always recommend him to people I know that need ECO2301. But if you take him you need to go to class the tests can be kinda hard. Attendance is not mandatory but it definitely helps your grade when you go consistently. But if you go to class and attend the SI sessions you will do fine.
Doctor Al-Hmoud is an incredibly respectable, knowledgeable, and funny professor. He does an EXCELLENT JOB of conveying the concepts, and making sure we understand them. Everything he teaches will be on our tests, and he ensures we have the principles and foundations needed in order to pass. Never thought I'd be interested in econ until taking him.
Loved this proffesor really broke down concepts into stuff we could all understand by relating it to the real world, would've received an A if I would've shown up to class more. Only advice would be read the syllabus because ha gave daily quizzes which were basically participation points and they were worth 10% of the grade.
You definitely will need to go to class. He lectures a lot it's not slideshows its him talking, it was hard for me for figure out how he was defining certain words and the formulas he was using. He writes the graphs the board so sit closer to see. He can get off track easily and won't tell us what chapter the textbook were on.
Nice guy but the tests are so impossible it's not even funny
Very funny and nice professor, but this class is not for the people who need notes to study. He tends to go off topic and can be very confusing at times. The TAs give weekly sessions but at times can be hard to understand. If you want to take this class pay VERY CLOSE ATTENTION to what he is saying this class is very note heavy.
No slides or structured notes; he just talks, so if you're a visual learner, you might struggle. He doesn't record or post lectures, making it hard to know what to study for the difficult exams. I had a 4.0, perfect attendance, went to every SI session, and took detailed notes, but I still failed two exams and am barely passing the class with a C.
He's a good professor, but exams are sooooo hard.
I don't want to seem like the salty student who didn't do well but heres what I will say. Pros: He's pretty funny and doesn't seem like a bad guy The way the exams are weighted is pretty good to the student Cons: The exams are so actually difficult The reviews are not helpful No slideshows
As I'm reading these other reviews, I generally agree with them on a few things. The homework and quizzes are easy so you basically get 30 points for free which is a bonus, but the exams which are the remaining 70% are very hard. The study guides are not helpful, and the exams themselves don't feel fair to the student.
The tests are not impossible, like these people say. In my experience, a few quality hours of studying will ensure you get at least a B on the exams. A third or more of the test questions will come directly from the homework, and almost all the rest from just basic Algebra 1 equations you learn in the class. Don't expect this class to be a blowoff
Exams were veryyyy difficult for me. I studied for a long time and knew the material but still didn't do good on them.
Grading is way too exam heavy, have not failed an exam yet and am on track for a low B with almost perfect attendance and homework scores. Luckily lectures are great, he is very passionate and teaches well. Main thing I can say is show up to lectures or you will not do great.
SO SO bad. His lecture was around 200 people, but he just teaches by writing on a chalkboard that nobody can see. Attendance is based on mini quizzes that are taken at the start of each class, and they ARE graded. His tests are extremely hard and you will have no idea what to study for. About 75% dropped the class and those who stayed got Cs.
Exams are extremely difficult and gives very little objective on what to study. The lectures themselves are interesting but have no structure.
No powerpoints in lecture so you HAVE to pay attention. Exams are the attendance quiz questions so be prepared for that.
Lectures are very freelancd on the spot no slideshows Exams are difficult
Dr. Al-Hmoud is an excellent professor. His lectures are engaging and easy-to-understand because he explains the concepts by applying real-world examples. There is no extra credit or bonus points given. Use the homeworks as study guides for the exams. Going to class is very important since no lecture materials are posted on blackboard.
Lectures have 0 structure. Sometimes you go to class and you learn a bunch the next class he may just ramble over things unrelated to the class and entertain side conversations with students at the front. The worst part is he writes tiny on a whiteboard at the front no one can see unless you sit in the very front and he doesn't even post notes.
This class has absolutely no structure to the lectures but has very difficult exams Would not recommend
He puts a QR code the first five min of class to a short quiz about previous lecture (not hard). I really liked his lectures because he's not just reading off slides, he gives real world examples and works out situations on the board. The class is very test heavy, but it's not too bad if you do the homework and beginning of class quiz.
Does his lectures without slideshows, but notes are posted by TA's. Attendance is tracked through quizzes, but otherwise the class is very easy and he makes it enjoyable.
Lectures without slides, so be prepared to take notes in class. Attendance is graded thru easy quizzes. Small amount of extra credit available thru engagement in class. Amazing lecturer and clearly very knowledgeable. Course is very test heavy, but the tests are manageable with proper studying.
