Good teacher once you get past the accent. Sometimes she contradicted herself in class. Confusing a lot of the time, Marked essays quite hard. Good choices for works covered,
Rashmi is the sweetest Kindest teacher you will ever have! She does mark essays hard, but is really easy to get to move due dates around. Sometimes she is very unclear.
She is very fair and understands that you are taking other classes. She tends to be more leaniant when the class talks during discussions. I found that essays aren't marking overly hard because she wants everyone to do good so badly.
A fun class....people almost came to fistfights!
nicest person alive. great teach, always ready to help and just a really good person.
A very good professor, exams are more then fair and lessons are quite interesting.
Very sweet lady, wants you to succeed every much.. not always totally clear but i enjoyed class discussions and her effort to impress the class with the hottest technology "powerpoint"
Shes a sweet prof. Great class discussions. Very understanding in moving due dates if you can't make them in on time. Very willing to help. Exams reflect a lot of class discussions.
Best Teacher ever so nice and one of the most helpful teachers in Grant
This is one of the nicest and cutest human beings I have ever met in my life. She helped me out so much, and she was a fair marker. She is also a very smart lady, she knew everything that was going on in the world and about different religions. I loved having her and I highly recommend for everyone to take her.
At first I wasn't sure what was going on, but once I understood her teaching style I really liked her. Lots of discussion. She doesn't write much down. Prepare to take notes and PARTICIPATE. If you don't like her classes, chances are you're just not speaking up enough. I think she marks easier if you ask for help on your paper, FYI.
Amazing teacher, but more importantly.. incredible human being. She is one of those teachers that inspires you to be a nicer person. Not a mean bone in her body and such a cute lady. Definitely recommend her class. Shes also VERY smart.
Great teacher. Super nice. Gives great feedback on papers.
Great prof, she is clear on her explanations and very helpful whenever I needed her help. She has an accent but that was not something that stopped me from learning from her.
Super nice lady, and easy marker. recommand her!!
She is a very kind and caring person; however, I do not feel as though she understands what you are trying to say a lot of the time. Gave everyone within 5% of the same mark on the essays (between 75-80) so not recommended for highly acedemic students.
Good if you are a below average student because she gives everyone the same mark. Bad if you are striving for a high GPA cause there is no way of getting over A-. She never understands any questions you have.
OMG!! One of the worst classes I have ever taken. DRY, BORING, contradicting, and felt very stupid in this class since most of us felt like we were in high school learning grade 12 english, yet we did poorly. She is a nice person, but a terrible class, and maybe she shouldn't have beent eaching it.
Best Proffessor at GMAC, Amazing, very nice person
i learned alot from rashmi! be prepared to know your stuff though. i would take her class again :)
she is one of the best prof, because of the following reasons, 1 she cares for student so much, 2, she encourage u to work hard, 3. She is always helpful, if you ask a question, you get a perfect answer for your question.
Very nice professor, easy marker, wants everyone to do well. She does have favorites though, tends to to make the class go longer than it should. Needs to have a bit more control over the class.
Rashmi is a great lady, but you need to pay attention and be involved in class. Also, don't take this class if you can't write to anothers opinion, ie: hers. She will tell you what she wants to hear and see, and that is what you need to give her. I didn't and I still got a B+.
She has difficulty comprehending English sentences, especially questions directed at her. She is a decent grasp of grammar rules; this is the only area where she has any credibility as a professor of the English language. She assigns arbitrarily high marks to people, but does not give excellent marks. She does not respect standard pronunciation.
This may be a bit odd. But, she does not understand questions at all. No matter how you ask them, how many times you repeat them, and how you express them. I found this and other such language gaps frustrating to deal with, given that she was our English teacher. She teaches by extremely superficially going through ppt slides - that's all.
Must come to class prepared and have articulated ideas ready in order to participate. Her expectations are clear so most students are able to get within 70-90 if they attend class and put the time in. Very pleasant and sweet lady and very helpful.
She's a really nice lady. Mostly read and participate during discussions, at first it took a while to adjust to her accent but overall she was one of the best.
Rashmi is a super nice lady. Always go to class because she usually goes over essays that are options for your papers and basically lays out possible outlines for you. Go see her with your paper if you're unsure of what you have because she is really helpful and open about what it is she is looking for.
Rashmi is a great prof! She is always helpful if you go to her for help on Essays during office hours. She tells you whats he expects from you. The thing i didn't like about her is that she gives everyone around the same mark on major essays. no matter how hard you work, you will get around the class average, never significantly higher than it tho.
Would recommend this prof because she is an easy marker. If you hand in assignment late she doesn't dock marks. She tends to give the entire class somewhere in the high 70's. Also she does attendance and puts it towards you participation marks so make sure to attend She is very easy going I would definitely take another class taught by her.
She's a nice lady but she will give the same mark to everyone in the class. No matter how hard you work you will get between 75 and 80. You aren't going to learn much, she's very opinionated so I didn't get many alternate views on stories.
I thought Rashmi was a great prof, and a nice lady. She does give everyone around the same mark but i feel she is more lenient when you go to her for help on her Office Hours. I would definitely recommend her. I did way better in her class than my english 102 class. She's a great lady and I would take her class again if i got the chance!! :)
Rashmi is a very nice lady. She is always willing to help you no matter what. I always hated English, and got the bare minimum in English 102 (C-) but I learned so much from Rashmi, I got an A-, lets keep in mind I hated english. Take advantage of office hours, she is more lenient on marking if you do go. I definitely recommend Rashmi, I love her!
Rashmi is a great prof, however, she has told the class how she will not give to high of a grade because the department will "look at her". Great prof but if you want a 4.0 don't come here.
Heard she would be an easy marker. She is to an extent. I'm more of a math student, English is definitely not my strong subject. I can't handle her accent.. wish I would have went with a different professor.
Rashmi is a great lady and is always willing to help. Weird thing was that my friend and I got almost the same mark for assignments and so did the rest of the class. If you're not a strong english student and want a good mark, id recommend her.
Rashmi was a pretty decent prof. However, at the start of the semester i felt like she gave everyone around the same marks on essays no matter how hard you tried but that changed later on throughout the semester. She's also very helpful, so take her office hours for granted and hilarious at times.......
The language barrier makes it incredibly hard to follow what she's saying and even harder to ask her questions. Her marking is confusing, her feedback illegible, and even though she says she's not a tough marker nobody will get higher than an 80% because her department will look at her funny if she gives higher grades.
She's a really nice teacher but she's tough marker. I had a hard time trying to comprehend what she expected of me.
Rashmi is a pretty easy marker you just have to show her how much you care and that way she's more diligent at marking... She's kinda confusing to understand as she tends to ignore your questions by not really answering it.
My favourite teacher! Such an incredible woman. Always very nice and willing to help whenever she can. Seriously such an entertaining class, she ALWAYS had our class laughing. Attendance is really important to her but she makes it worth while.
Rashmi was an interesting prof in that she wasn't always easy to follow but we always had fun with her. Attendance is super important but if you show up you'll most likely do well. The class is relatively easy. She DOES have some issues figuring out technology and will likely need some help there ahah.
Rashmi really cares about her students and is willing to help whenever possible. Attendance is expected, but class discussions keep it interesting and lively, and she normally dismisses early. I found she was clear in her expectations, and answered emails extremely promptly if I needed clarification. I would recommend her class to anyone!
She marked pretty hard and didn't always tell you exactly what she wanted
Such a sweet, cute lil lady, she has a good sense of humour and she tells you exactly how to get a good grade. Takes attendance for a grade so go to class. She does have an accent and doesn't speak up much so you have to pay attention to understand what she's saying.
She is very nice and will help with everything. You can bring your papers to her as many times as needed before its due and she will help. She is a tough grader though. Gives marks for attendance. Study for the grammar quizzes they're hard.
She really enjoys what she does and you are able to see that through her teaching! Extremely caring about her students and loves talking! Great prof :)
This professor is very knowledgeable and passionate about her subject. She is helpful and her goal is for the student to achieve great marks. She does her very best to engage the students and provide relative lesson plans. She has an open door and is understanding and accommodating. She is considerate of course loads and student time constrains
Rashmi is so sweet. However , you must go to class she does not tolerate missed in class participation assignments! She is very insightful! Her tests were average you just have to be well prepared. Sometimes class was a little dry but with student participation it became more lively! She was very helpful inside and outside of class.
She's very nice and loves English, but she doesn't really TEACH you the skills she wants you to learn. She expects you to do the readings before class and then she gives practice worksheets on what you "learned" If you aren't good at independent learning DONT take her class.
She is very kind and knows what she's teaching very well. Her classes are fun and she engages with students very well.
She was an alright teacher, the in class discussions were pretty interesting and the formats/criteria were clear for the assignments. It was boring though and attendance wasn't worth a whole lot, so you could get away with skipping. She was very kind! some of her responses to questions were confusing tho
She's very nice and she likes to have participation regardless of the situation.
Rashmi, is a doll. Helps you whenever you need and is a kind woman. Easy class but respect her and do the work.
While Rashmi is a very nice lady, she marks very hard and expects everyone write exceptional papers. She is always available for help but a lot of her advice and feedback is contradictory and much of her reasoning for her grading is convoluted. As well, she takes attendance every class and a single absence can easily affect your mark.
Her lectures rely on class discussions and participation is part of your mark. Take notes during discussions, because she'll tell you answers for the final. Friendly and willing to help you write your papers, but her feedback can be vague sometimes. The final exam questions are given beforehand so you can fully prepare.
Very sweet, soft spoken professor. The class discussions and topics are interesting, they keep you engaged. Always willing to help her students with their papers and she gives you the final questions beforehand. Attendance and class participation are really important.
She is an awesome prof! Super nice and fair! :D Gotta talk a little bit loud with her.
She is a sweet lady but all we did in class was discussion questions in groups. The class seemed like a waste of time. I wouldn't take her class again.
Her class does not really teach you anything it is mainly just group discussions. She does mark for attendance though so skipping is probably not a good idea. I would never take another class from her but she is a nice lady
Her class does not really teach you anything it is mainly just group discussions. She does mark for attendance though so skipping is probably not a good idea. I would never take another class from her but she isn't the worst. If you actually want to be in an intellectual course this is not the one for you
She doesnt lecture, instead having constant group discussions that lead nowhere because she had never given a proper lecture. Expects you to know obscure current events more than actual course content. Rambles. Contradictory and unfairly tough grading criteria (I got high marks, mind you). I will never take a course with her again.
Rashmi was excellent as a prof, but her lectures were often confusing and jumping from several different topics.
She does not teach really it is just a bunch of group work and her asking us if we know obscure facts. She marks for attendance.
Rashmi is such a sweet lady, and although at times she can be confusing, if you ask her questions and show up to class, you should be good. The easiest course I had this semester as she's not a hard marker
Takes attendance, which feels like grade school. Lack of teaching during lecture. Almost every class includes group work.
Lecture is very group discussion heavy, makes class seem like a waste of time when the lecture goes no where. Readings that she made us do were mostly very dull and tried to push a very feminist perspective into every story. Would not take again
Rashmi is the worst prof Ive ever had. She is completely oblivious to whats by going on around her, dismissive of her students, and has no idea how teach a lecture. She does not foster a healthy environment for learning, but is so unaware of her surroundings she cant even realize it. I will be writing a letter to the dean voicing my displeasure.
Yes there is a lot of group discussion in her class. So get ready to voice your opinion's on the readings (Diverse & Fun). However my main issue was her unclear subjective grading criteria. Everyone ended up getting around the same grade of B to A- only! So completing papers were a rather futile task as your mark is predetermined from the get-go.
She does not really teach all she does is ask about current events and then stare at the class blankly when no one answers
Not the best if you actually want to learn but a good GPA booster
Rashmi is an amazing professor, she always makes time for her students, gives clear feedback and is overall a very funny prof. She expects everyone to talk, but if you aren't comfortable she won't make you. I recommend taking her class for ENG103 because she makes the class less dreadful, and gives you the questions for the final ahead of time.
Rashmi's lectures were incredibly boring and quite hard to stay focused. She stands in front of the class and just talks. Her writing tips slides are oddly ordered. However, she is very sweet and does help if you go to her during office hours. She takes attendance which sucks.
The lecture material isn't quite rewarding but the class nonetheless is a nice class to have early in the day that's mostly a relaxing experience and a good transition for new students entering post-secondary.
She takes attendance. She also likes to talk ALOT. Very hard to stay focused in her lectures, my class was really shy and no one talked so it was BORING. Very sweet lady tho, always willing to help. She cut class early almost every class because she would ramble on for 3/4 of the class and then everyone would be ready to leave. I recommend tho!
Rashmi is a sweet lady who cares about her students. Participation is key and to get the most out of this class youll need to ask plenty of questions. Shes a relatively easy grader so if you put in some effort its an easy A.
Okay, she won't grade your essays above an 80, but at the same time wont do below a 75. So with the easy quiz's, and the final that she gives you in advance it's not hard to get an A. If you want to learn don't take this class, but if you just want the credit and an easy A go for it. (btw most the quiz's she uses are online and simple)
For course work she is thorough. However, I literally zoned out when she talked to the class as she has a heavy accent and talks fast. it is difficult to understand her at times. She is a nice professor but lacked the ability to help students who struggled to understand her. She would skip you when answering her questions and move onto others.
She's such a sweet lady I feel guilty saying anything negative but the truth is her class was boring. I found some readings interesting but it seems that she had certain ways to analyze and if you had a different analysis she'll try to convince you otherwise. She also won't give above an 80, really frustrating if you actually put a lot of effort in
Absolute Beauty, easiest prof in the school, show up and pass
Wonderful lectures and a nice lady. Lectures can get boring, but asking questions or speaking up will help with that.
Rashmi is a sweet lady but her lectures could be boring. Attendance and Participation were mandatory and graded. I showed up in every single class but still finished with a B. She's a fair marker but I don't understand what she actually expects/ wants when you're writing a paper for her. I mostly got 75% on my papers, nothing less, nothing more.
Great proff, easy market. Highly recommend!
Rashmi is the nicest prof. Sweet lady, easy marker, respectful, kind. I had her for English 102 and received a -A, with english being my 5th language. Highly recommend her!
She is a solid teacher at macewan. I read reviews saying the class was bland before taking english 102 with her and honestly if you participate and help get the class energy going, its gonna be a good class. Not too hard, not too easy. Show up, participate, do your work and you'll be fine. Would take again.
Don't take her class if you want an A. You can get an A- or B+ with a tiny bit of effort, but an A is near impossible to get. She does not give A's out on essays often. I was convinced I could get an A if I put in an ungodly amount of effort - I was mistaken.
Jyoti was nice enough to reduce the course load for students during covid, but what that really means is the 3 big assignments are now just weighted more heavily, and there are no quizzes to help pull up your grade since she wont mark your essays higher than 85. Her instructions are very unclear and she doesn't actually teach you anything.
Professor Jyoti was kind enough to lower the workload as school shifted online; however, she provided no help. I noticed it's impossible to get a grade over 85, no matter what effort you put into it. She takes a long time to respond to emails and usually doesn't address the concern either. I recommend taking anyone but her for this course.
The only pro to Rashmi is she reduced the coursework significantly due to covid. Other than that, she takes forever to respond to emails, she doesn't actually teach us anything, and she is a tough grader. No one in my class got above 85%. She gave unclear instructions and feedback. If you can, I would avoid taking her, especially during covid.
I think she handled the transfer to online classes really gracefully. She didn't up to course work like a lot of profs have this semester and though she's a bit of a tough grader, her grading criteria is very clear and she's more than willing to chat about why you got certain marks/how to do better. If you're willing to put the work in, she's great
Rashmi likes to give lots of chances for grades. With COVID19 she gave 15 short stories to read and comment on, 2 essays, and one final (which was easy and based on personal preferences). She wants you to succeed, and to understand the readings. She really is a wonderful teacher and makes an effort to know each student's name.
Rashmi Jyoti is the sweetest professor ever!!! She really cares about her students, especially during these troubling times. The feedbacks are helpful for every essay that you've written. Rashmi is probably the best english instructor I've had throughout my life and I've learned a lot from her teachings.
Got stuck in India and then left us with no resources and no guidance. The course wasn't even self taught it was pretty much make the course yourself no guidance to even get started and graded assignments weren't even in there. Drop asap...
do not recommend, gave us grammar quizzes and she didn't even spell words correctly throughout, won't give over an 83 on essays and won't help you improve on them.
she will not give you good feedback on your essays. we barley did anything to do to help you boost your mark. made one essay worth 45% of our grade. insane! she just talks about the same readings over and over. there is no point of going to class because you don't learn anything. she also doesn't talk about real life things.
Was stuck in India at the start of term and did not provide guidance for assignments. When she got back, lectures had no direction and she would just repeat points that students made without elaboration or thought. No feedback on any essays and marked very harshly. Did not provide any direction for the course making it feel like a waste of time.
She does an excellent job of explaining the material, wants everyone to participate in class, and gives a lot of time for having the doubts cleared. The problem with this class is that it has only a couple of essays and a few activities which determine your grades. However, actively seeking the help of prof at each step can be helpful.
Dr. Jyoti was an excellent prof and gave great feedback on essays and written assignments. I enjoyed attending her class as she is a brilliant and caring woman. Read the material and engage with her in class, and you will do great.
Had 2 essays, 5 discussion posts, and a final exam. Doesn't give feedback. Very slow marker. Said that the final was take-home but it was actually in-person. Didn't realize the info was wrong until a week before the exam. Responds quickly to emails, though.
Although she doesn't really teach in her lectures and relies on online modules in her hybrid course, she is great. There are not that many assignments, lectures aren't mandatory to attend, and she's not a tough grader.
Rashmi is amazing, she is so sweet. I hate English but she makes me want to take more English courses at MacEwan. She always lets you know that she is available. She does have a bit of a strong accent but listen closely and you'll understand just fine. Definitely take her class if you have the chance!
While Rashmi is easily approachable her lectures are dry and ineffective. She does not teach any content but rather just reads off of slides. We were given an essay assignment, and she didn't even tell us the topic. It just feels like she doesn't really care about her student's success. Skip Rashmi, take this course with anyone else!
She is a nice person, though she doesn't really help you improve your writing. For most classes, she'd just put up an essay on the board and go over it while asking the class for their opinion.
Rashmi is the best English professor at MacEwan. She is very understanding and caring toward her students. She marks very quickly and easy, so if you want to pass a class without heavy work and harsh grading - take her class. 1 short essay with peer editing, 1 research paper with peer editing, 2 discussions, and a couple of short readings.
Rashmi is a very good prof.. Tbh if you follow her rubric you can easily get a 80+ on the essays. If you can't make it to class for a period of time just explain to her and she will excuse you. No heavy assignments or quizzes just one final two papers. Overall very understanding prof I would recommend taking her class again.
Professor Jyoti isn't suited to teaching a hybrid class. Students had to show her how to upload course content. Lectures did not aid learning. She marks harshly and gives little feedback, deducting significant marks for small errors. The weekly breakdown outlined in the syllabus wasn't followed. Course content is evidently reused without revision.
She's very nice but the class is pretty boring/unhelpful. No matter what you're gonna get a 75-85 on your essays, and the feedback she gives isn't helpful. I've compared my feedback with other classmates and some were word for word copied. Should be an easy B+ or A-, but you'll never know what she really wants if you're trying to boost your grade.
Insightful lectures. Gives good feedback but doesn't look over assignments very well. We did a 1200-word essay and 2 days later she returned it - got an A. At times she didn't have anything to discuss and would encourage everyone to discuss and ask questions, which gets awkward. Not for someone who wants a challenge. Happy with my high marks tho.
Professor Rashmi is caring and understanding. Though writing improvement can be hit-or-miss, her grading is lenient. Engage in class and utilize unstuck AI for essay prep to excel.
She wants everyone in her class to do well. Her lectures weren't anything you couldn't do yourself at home. The assignments were straightforward. Sometimes she runs out of stuff to talk about in class lecture and she just starts calling on everybody present hoping they will engage with her, they never do. It gets awkward. Otherwise, nice woman!
