He is unfair, inconsiderate, and insulting. When students do not understand the material and ask him questions about it, he becomes impatient and annoyed. Take Glenn Vice; he's very helpful and he will make sure that you understand the material clearly.
A complete amature. Hates his students. Needs to move on and quit teaching because it seems that he dosent like doing it. Dont take his class!
He starts off very hard, but if you hang in there for the class, you will learn a lot. The book is hard enough to understand along with Massoomians accent but he IS a very good teacher. He went to Harvard!!He really knows this subject. I hated him at firs
At first he is hard but over the semester his class turns out to be pretty easy. Our class had 4 take home or group tests out of the five given and he drops one.
Youll easily pass this class if you come to class and read the book. The tests are hard but most are take home or group tests. Also the lowest test is dropped.
gave 4 take-home tests.i really enjoyed his class because he was able to relate theories in ecnomics with how corporate america works today. he loves economics and this definitely shows in his teaching. he went to a state college in new york, not Harvard
Well, he told us he was a graduate from Harvard, don't get tecnical.Anyways, he is definitle a good professor and really knows his subject well.
Masoomian is my favorite teacher at Mt. SAC. if ur on his good side, lucky you =) he's anal about being on time. but just read the book and pay attention in class and ull do fine in the class. he always adds points to the test + take home & group test
No Comments
hahah, don't believe those who write negative stuff,i think Masoomian is fine!
He is disrespectful, the negative comments definitely corespond to this teacher.
Funny guy sometimes but generally boring class. Get ready to fall asleep. He's a decent, relatively nice teacher though.
He's oookay. He sometimes isn't really understanding when it comes to situations. He gets upset if you are late even though he is sometimes a couple minutes late himself. If u take him, just make sure you do the reading. You'll be fine if you do.
Do not take him. You never understand what he is talking about. If you are taking as major, make sure take someone else. Also, very unfriendly and mean.
Ok so he does have an accent and he does get annoyed if your late, but if you study a little this class is easy to pass, especially since he has a generous curve on his tests
I really don't think that he should be teaching the honors classes. If he knows a lot, he doesn't teach it well. My best preparation for the tests came from the book. He does not like to compromise. Sometimes he gets moody and goes off on power trips.
trust me,don't take his class. He is absolutely not understanding and stubborn, and he is not willing to help, every time when I went to him, he always made me feel bad,and his exams were tricky, the final was so difficult. He is just there to lower your GPA.
he is sucks, he is a very bad teacher, if you take his class, you will see significant changes on your gpa, if you want to transfer to any school, you will think twice before you take his class, he never talks about anything in his class but he tests all.
Aparrently he never learned what the word "respect" means, don't get him started or he will make you suffer even after the semester has ended
The book is hard to read! His lectures help grasp the concept of the lesson but it's not enough to ace the test. You have to do a lot of reading in the class to keep ahead. On occassion, he will make you feel dumb. If you're not majoring in economics, don't bother with this guy - he'll make u work.
Personally I liked him but because he teaches at Cal Poly the same time as Mt.SAC I think he expects the same out of the students. His class is HARD,only 2-3 people at a time got an A on the test and homework needs approx 3 days to finish. Also he makes you feel stupid if you go to his office hours.
he is hard because he is a professional and he is a college professor, not a high school one. people don't like him b/c he expects you to read the material do his homework and study. his class is not hard if you do the work. he is very fair and understanding, just communicate w/ him.
No mercy in the grading and he teaches awfully unclear! I dropped his class as soon as I could. You're a fool if you think you can live up to his standards. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU!!! Only economic majors will get what he says!
He ruined my life! Because I took this class, I will not be able to get into Berkely!!! HE IS A TOTAL JERK!!! AVOID HIM!! He not only grades VERY HARD, but he's mean and could care less about students. He's arrogant and unless you like sucking up 24-7, HE'LL NAIL YOUR THROAT TO THE WALL!!!!
I survived and got an A, but, I absoulutely don't like him. I learned ECON by myself. u don't even need to go to the lecture, sometimes the lecture confused me, just read the textbook by yourself. If u really study hard, u still can get good grade. In a word, disregard him.
My advise is to not take his class. And do not ever take a short term class with this teacher. He does not teach well, makes the tests hard and bsically a horrible teacher. This class will mess you up if your trying to transfer.
I hate this stupid professor!!! he is gender discriminated to female, and I am very certain about that becuz i am a victim! also, he'll make fun of u if u ask the basic questions and that totally pissed me off becuz i am there to learn. HE IS TOTALLY a JERK ****!!!!
A TOTAL NIGHTMARE!!!! Avoid this guy if you can! He is incomprehensible, arrogant, and rude! He puts his ego into grading your papers and doesn't stick to deadlines. Every moment of the class he likes to make you feel dumb. He should stick to torturing those at Cal Poly. Mt. SAC doesn't need him!
Great proffesor! All these other students just like to whine cause theyre too stupid to pass a real college level class. I would recomend this guy to anyone that wants to transfer, he teaches at a UNIVERSITY level, not a high school level. He is very passionate about teaching Econ and it shows.
People who said Dr. Masoomian is hard are people who like to slack off in his class. Let me tell you, he is by far one of the coolest economic professor I've had. Just don't slack off and try your hardest in his class, and you'll guarantee a huge success in his class. If you plan to be econ major, t
I passed this class with an A-, but I'll tell you one thing: this guy is freaking HARD! Unless you are in his honors class, where he will make it as easy as cake, you'll have to teach yourself Economics. He is unclear, has a thick accent, and a terribly inflated ego. He also seems to give preference to the men in his class, so you ladies watch out.
If you want to fail, take him!
This teacher is arrogant, stubborn, ****, and incomprehensible! He should have never been hired. I am surprised that he is even allowed to teach!
I thought his class was one of the most interesting economic classes. He gives lots of examples and is very thorough. Overall you do need to study for pop- quiz, tests, and exams. The presentation is still free points but don't try anything cheesy.Side note: Don't be late in his class :) or you will get points deducted.
you will get an A if you read the book (on your own)...you dont really have to go to class...because you wont learn much from him anyways...just do the hw and understand the chapters then you will do fine in his class... The professor is very knowledgeable nevertheless...
his tests are straight out of the book and study guide but for some reason still hard. i took his summer class and he helped us out with tests (partner test & 15 min open book) but only ONE person out of 16 got an A. few people got Bs and lots of Cs and a couple Ds. his accent is rough... a lot dropped the 1st & 2nd week. i wouldnt reccommend him.
He is moody. Sometimes he is good but many times he wants to overpower students. He doesnot respond to e-mails. He has lot of ego and many students had hard time after their presentations. He insulted many for small reasons. Be aware if you have no option !! He uses bad words and does indescent gestures which personally difficult for me to digest.
Don't ever take this wack job's class. He's never clear and is clearly out of his mind.
DON"T TAKE THIS GUY!!!!
Avoid this guy like the plauge!
He thinks himself as the S**t. He aslo believes that he teaches good but the fact is that he doesn't. He will make jokes out of everyone he picks and keeps picking on them until the very last day.
He is the easiest teacher I've ever taken!! If you study the book, you will get A. The only thing I didn't like was group presentation.. But he knows how to teach and very understandable.
He is not that bad as people say BUT he could be the worst Econ profesor in mtsac. there are professors way better than him.... (just keep that in mind)
If you take this professor, be prepared to take his criticism. When you ask a question, he makes you feel stupid in front of everyone when all you need is him to clarify something. Tests aren't hard but you do have to study and read the chapters. Good luck to those individuals that take his class.
He's a total control freak, egotistical, loves to make you feel stupid, and offers not help. If you take this guy, you will be teaching yourself Economics because you won't understand a thing he says. I don't see how he still is allowed to teach. Maybe he should go back to Cal Poly and let them suffer. Mt. SAC doesn't need his torture sessions.
He is not very patient in his lectures. Ask too many questions and then he will belittle you and "get mad." Sometimes he insults you. My friend was yelled at for asking too many questions. Tests were a little tough but doable. Final exam is much, much more difficult than the regular tests. Had A in class before final, then dropped to B. I would avoid him if possible.
I agree w/ comments posted. He's a jerk,& likes to make u feel like the stupidest living thing on earth when u ask him genuine questions. Truth is, hes random about his topics and doesnt cover them fully. U HAVE TO READ it on ur own, and trust..macroeconomics is not the most interesting thing in the world and its worse when ur teacher disrespects u
Way to hard
While some chapters may be unclear, Masoomian is willing to take the time to thoroughly go over any questions/problems whether or not they were assigned. He responds through his emails pretty quickly. He offers hefty extra-credit, all you need to do is read the assigned chapters and youll be fine without it.
It's a college course and the work that is expected of you is college level. The class is not overly difficult. He is more than willing to help. You failed because you didn't do what you should have and slacked off. He is an excellent professor that Mt. Sac is fortunate to have. This is coming from someone who fail and went back to do it again.
He comes across as an elitist (I'm right, you are wrong). If you ask a question he just restates the exact same way. Told one student to "stop asking stupid questions" when the student didn't understand his explanation. He doesn't seem to have any outline to follow. Marginally forgiving for military obligations. Don't take him if you don't have to.
Horrible teacher. He's the worst kind, the type that doesn't like to help. He seems to go out of his way to belittle students. You can tell that he doesn't enjoy teaching. His lectures aren't structured, he doesn't go off of the book, and he is hard to understand. His class went from 20 students to 7. Go else where.
hard to understand class would be easy if you can get the material easy if not he can suck
Masoomian started the semester joyful and very fair; he let us choose what we wanted to do; tests, paper, presentations, etc. His homework assignments are long, but few. Midterms are very difficult, I study for hours and barely got a B. Very rude and condescending when you ask him questions. In the end I dreaded attending his classes.Dont recommend
He a dumb fxxk. I thought he a cool professor; however......................................turned out to be a pain in the ass......damn
PROFESSOR FROM HELL!!! DO NOT TAKE!! This would have to be the worst professor I have ever taken in my college career. Where on earth did they hire this guy?! Somebody should fire him. He damages practically every student he comes into contact with. Nearly everyone fails this class. Those who are lucky get out with a "C". TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! AVOID!
I took him for both Macro and Micro and relatively enjoyed his lectures. He teaches at a higher level than community college, but that's what I liked about him. Challeneges the class and forces you to read the textbook. so you will do well on exams. Essentially if you do the work and put in your time you will do fine. Not an easy A class, but good.
Very hard!! Stay away from him. I work really hard in school, and I still had to withdrawl.... their is no give or take. You better be a geniuss at this subject or you wont pass. I don't recomend him. Also im trying to get ride of him... Not into the students best interest. "Also he already has gotten a pink slip(kicked out)from another college.
I do not recommend this teacher at all. Like the other's said, he belittles students and does not explain things clearly. If you plan on taking him, don't even bother listening to the lectures, just go into the book and write your own notes. This is the only reason why i got an A in his class. Take this teacher as your last resort.
hes a lil ****...can barely speak english and does not teach out of book but his tests are only on the book.
He's not as bad as everyone says. The class was easy providing that you just read the book. i missed about 2-3 weeks of class and still got a B. He's not overly mean, he just doesnt deal with students who try to be smarter than he is.
Maybe if you originate from the same place he does, you might get by understanding him. I dont know why he's teaching. NOT A GOOD TEACHER. Plus, you should consider that he was previously kicked out of another college. Enough said here. GOODLUCK!
I had this professor for the hybrid classes. I heard a lot of negative comments on him but my experience was a little different. At times, he is very hard to approach because he doesn't smile a lot. But, for his class, if you commit to reading the material then his tests won't be very hard. If you don't then its hard to get a good grade.
excellent teaching style and very knowledgable. the subject itself can be complex and boring at times. he makes you think when asking questions on hmwk/tests with 5 possible answers instead of the typical 4. the hmwk/ test preparation can be time consuming outside of class. be prepared
v good
If you can not take a joke, DO NOT TAKE HIM. he teaches at University level, and is knowledgeable in economics. very easy grading system. the only problem is probably the language barrier might rub off the wrong way. but he is not rude or an elitist by any means. he just reacts justifiably to stupid remarks and statements. i'd take him again!
This was a lot more difficult than the macroecon. the material seemed a lot more difficult too. Easy grading system, all take home quizzes (worth 60% of grade). nice, funny guy. i would take him again.
He is a great teacher and knows his subject very well. If you follow his directions and study what he tells you you will get an A if you don't you won't. he mad economics interesting for me.
If you are afraid of Economics or dislike it...take this professor. He makes it all worthwhile.Don't let his accent fool you. He is not at all intimidating as I thought when first attending class. He is the sweetest and super funny. He makes it super easy. No homework except for reading and take home quizzes. but thats for hybrid online class.
He is the best at teaching a hard class! His thesis are clear, and you will understand the main principles of economy. He will be friendly and helpful, and he is on the student's side. He will make sure you will pass with a decent grade. Tests are long but they are take home tests! Take him!!!
Hes actually pretty easy.Heard some bad things about him before entering the class but theres nothing to worry about! Just do all the take home quizzes try to answer them all correctly & it boosts your grade.Study it for midterm & youll do fine. 1 paper (summarize a topic 2pgs easy) & the final! accent is manageable. or read book its all the same!
Might not give a great first impression but his grading is very simple 5 assignments one midterm and one final make sure to make friends so you can collaborate on assignments they are basically take home tests...his midterm and final is basically half the hw assignments/half conceptual information he lectures thoroughly and plus he is a Laker fan!!
Took online microecon class. Barely any work, just read chapters and do a few assignments. Final is comprehensive so you need to understand everything from throughout the semester.
I'm a C student.I've taken macro 3X's with different professors. His class is HARD. He teaches at university level, but from my experience he is one of the few instructors who explains the material far more clearly than others. If you want a real understanding of the subject, I recommend his class. IF you like to sleep in class take DABIRIAN.
His class is hard!I do not recommend his class. He has accent, and he is racism!!!!
No extra credit. No curve for the grade. These make his class hard to get a high grade.Do not take him if you are going to transfer to schools such as UCLA. Take Professor Dua instead.Professor Dua provides 10% extra credit which makes people to get an A in BUS1A possible.Without having extra credit,it is hard to get an A in a Economics class.
RECOMMENDED- He is not as hard as everyone says he is, he just requires you to know the concepts. People who complain about no extra credit are obviously not ready for college. His tests are a little difficult but if you know the concepts you'll do fine. He is willing to answer any qestions & reviews for a whole day before tests. Assnmts r not hard
Dude he is hard. His lectures are boring and he is not very clear. Though the assign are easy and he lets you get answeres from others in the class before turning them in, the tests are SUPER hard! NO STUDY GUIDE! Wth we need one!Their is so much in the book and you have no idea what he is asking for. He is the best BUSC teacher at sac so take him.
I enjoyed his class but it is nearly impossible to get an A. The people giving Masoomian good ratings are all students who don't mind getting C's and B's, and transferring to substandard universities. If you want to get an A and get into USC, UCLA, or UC Berkeley, avoid him at all costs. He will find every reason in the world to not give you an A.
This man argued with me for a full 15 minutes on why he couldn't give me an A with a 91% in his class. He does not teach for good students, he only pays attention to bad students and makes everyone else pay for it by making his tests nearly impossible to handle. He takes pride in giving B's and C's. If anyone says he's easy, he's not anymore.
Took his classes to prepare for a master's program. He's good and knows how to make economics accessible. Students complaining he's tough have obviously not followed the professor's easy advice, which is: READ THE ASSIGNED CHAPTERS and PAY ATTENTION. Homework is easy, midterms are based on the textbook reading, and he'll explain every answer.
Overall he is hard. Im taking his online class an he is no help at all! for the answer keys he jus gives the letter not an explaniation as to why you may have got it wrong. For the people who say he is easy he is not at all. My advice if you take this class make sure you know more than the him cuz if not your gonna fail!
I'm writing this comment because i want to save all the future students never take his class unless you want a "F" on your transcript. when he dislikes you he will used all the trick to fail you, and threaten you to drop his class. be aware!!!
DONT TAKE HIM. FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE THAT I GOT C IN ANY CLASS =( YOU CANT LEARN ANYTHING! EVERYBODY'S FALLING ASLEEP. HES SO BORING. HE CANT TEACH =( I HATE THIS CLASS, AND I HATED IT MORE WHEN I GOT HIS CLASS. DONT TAKE HIM!!!
This guy thinks he will appear intelligent in front of his peers in the economics department if he fails every one of his students. He often brags about how no one can get an A in his class and how that makes him look "smart." The man is not smart at all, he was a B- student in college and he's bitter with his personal life, so stay away from him.
Do not take him, this guy will do anything to fail you. I believe this is the only professor that i have ever written a bad review on, but he really really really deserves it.
Economics is difficult for many students. But taking Masoomian has to be harder. He is not nice and I would not advice anybody to take him. Save your gpa and time, take someone else.
hard subject already, and this is lower division yet he teaches like it is at the graduate level!!Very unapproachable and his tests are extremely hard! he is way too difficult and doesn't even offer any extra credit which is ridiculous considering how hard his class is!!!If you care about your GPA better think twice
I enjoy economics, but he does not make it enjoyable. He makes his own tests and the wording is awkward; he assumes you understand what he means. He is difficult to understand, so you'll be reading the book the entire time. He offered one piece of extra credit. Avoid him if you can, but if he's the only one available, then make sure to read!
If you learn your best by reading textbooks analytically and have a good understanding of basic algebra, then you should find Dr. Masoomian relatively easy. Read the text thoroughly and you should get an easy A or B. His tests and take-home assignments and are multiple choice. The tests are also curved. No other assignments are required.
Overall easy class! took it without any background in economics. As long as you take notes and somewhat pay attention you will do fine. His assignments are easy and there are few of them! He is straight to the point with his lectures. You have to try to fail this class, i would definitely recommend this class!
He expects you to be at a high level of understanding economics, since you are a college student. He criticizes students for asking questions, and makes you feel retarded. His accent is too heavy to understand, and when you question his sloppy writting, he tells you not to worry since its in the book. Theres no use in being in class.
First off, let me just say, if you care about GPA, don't take this class. This is an honors class. He does not curve, his tests are very hard, his accent is thick, and he writes cursive on the board about half an inch tall. He criticizes you for asking questions saying, "I can tell you didn't read", when in fact, I did read the entire chapter.
Assignments and tests are easy if you read most of the book. The hardest parts about this guy's class is understanding a few of his poorly phrased questions or just dealing with him. Try your best to skate through without catching his attention; the guy thinks he's something special and that all his students are out to undermine him, cheat, etc.
online class. first day meeting he discouraged everyone NOT to take his class because YOU WILL FAIL. i beleived him at first and was really scared but as the semester went on the assignments were OK. he gives you the answers after. midterm and final. to pass the exams, STUDY THE ASSIGNMENTS! thats all i did and came out with a B+. its not easy tho
This class is hard!! and since this is an online class, u gotta to learn everything by yourself. Like what they said, if you care about your grade, think before you attend this class.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had a class with. His assignments were confusing and his tests were incomprehensible. He accused me of cheating when I had not and was extremely unreasonable.
He is one of the nicest teachers. If you ask a question, he explains it in depth and he gives examples until you understand it. He does have an accent, but it is very understandable. I think his accent makes the class easier to understand because he doesn't use "big words"-he's straight to the point. Take him, he's great.
He knows his stuff. I've never had a teacher who was more dedicated and educated on the subject matter. Its weird that people are saying that he was mean, because he's not if you do your work and pay attention. He's only going to give you a hard time if you slack, and even then he's only kidding. You must read the book if you want a good grade.
I'm an honor student at Sac, and I have never came across a teacher that has frustrated me as much as Masoomian. He is the best at Sac, but he's tough to pass with an A or B. Study hard because his exams use terminology that the book doesn't even use. If you're taking 12+ units, don't take him because you'll feel overwhelmed. Need to know the book!
Definitely a hard class. No study guides, no power points, all vocal lectures, and tests that he took from other teachers, so sometimes there are different terms. The tests require situational thinking. Study hard and read, then maybe you can get a good B. Do not expect an A unless econ clicks with you and is your best friend.
I think he is a good professor. Assignments are from the book and he does everything in his power to get people to pass his class. The test are pretty hard though, they are super in depth and not concepts from the book, other than this not hard. For a honors course I do not think its that hard and it is not impossible to get an A or B. I got an A.
He is pretty hilarious and is a good teacher. He will make fun of you and make you feel dumb if you ask dumb questions though. If you take the class seriously you can do well and he really knows his stuff.
He is great. Understanding him was hard, but you have to do the reading, give some extra time to it. The info is really interesting anyways, its our life we are learning about as well, so it makes sense to pay attention. If you are deteremined to take the Econ classes take him he will explain if you don't understand and he is good at clarifying.
Overall BUSC1A is pretty easy. Do the required reading and you'll be fine. I think the students who struggle the most don't study or go over the material because the answers to their questions could have been found in the book. There are opportunities for extra credit! He's very fair with grading and wants students to succeed. Just do the reading!
He is very rude to students, and he doesn't use the language accurately (considering this was an online class). He doesn't provide any feedback to students about their work. Rarely does he responds to emails. His activities are extremely confusing, and students are criticized when they ask questions. He should not be a college professor.
i dont wear my seat belt driving to school because i want to die before i can make it to this class.
As a person he is extremely rude and unapproachable. However as a teacher I think he does a decent job of going over the material that's going to be on the test and his handouts and hw reflect how he's going to test so that was a plus. Overall the class is not too difficult, his personality is the only deterent.
Relatively easy professor, but that's mainly because the material's simple (just read the book and you're fine). BUT, the biggest problem with this professor is his personality; he's rude and condescending! I would recommend you avoid him if possible, but if not, just be quiet and study and he won't target you for his rude remarks.
I dont know what all of these other students are talking about. However I do know that Professor Masoomian is one of the many great professors I have had at Mt.sac. I am currently attending a prestigious university after transferring from Mt.sac and one of my classes is Business Econ, If it were not for Masoomian's knowledge I would be in trouble.
you wont learn a single thing going to his class, everything i learned, i learned on my own by reading the book. when ever you ask him a question, he goes on a random tangent that is not relative to the question asked. the homework is not hard, but time consuming cause you have to spend time teaching yourself the material. never gives study guides.
I guess I was not just interested in Economics that's why it's a lot harder for me to like this class. Also, he wasnt a big help at all to keep the discussion lively and interesting. No extra credit, no projects. 10 homework, midterm, and final. Lectures are sooo boring and I pretty much learned everything by myself.
Tests are difficult, make sure to read the book and teach yourself. The trick is to do your absolute best and not slack off on each quiz so the tests don't sink you.
Professor Masoomian is a very knowledgeable guy, but not a good teacher. There are about 6 assignments that are scantron and short answer combined; do well on these because they will save your grade. I learned more from reading the book than I did during his lectures. He is not very helpful if you have questions. Study and read if you want to pass.
Read the book and make sure the answers for assignment are what the question specifically asks for, then you will get an easy A. The subject itself is pretty easy, it is more on common sense and general knowledge.
Must read the book to understand the material. Concepts are easy, but takes some time to analyze. I think he cares about his students. If you need help, go to his office hours. Study the homework assignments, and do your best to get full points on them. Not impossible to get an A. Don't be discouraged! I really liked Mr. Masoomian. I got an A.
Professor Masoomian is very knowledgeable about economics, but he can't teach it. It is not a hard subject, but he doesn't help make it any easier to learn. His lectures are not difficult, but his tests are hard. If you ask questions he makes you feel like you should already know the answer. Unless you love econ, do not take this professor.
Professor Masoomian is prompt with posting homework keys, mid-term and final exam grades. Many of the questions on mid-term & final are from the homework so be sure to study them before any test. He gives credit points for attending class which helps big time with your grade, so do not miss class--these are EASY points. No extra credit.
Students don't be discourage from all this negative comments. The professor cares for its students. This is a college course, not high school. So you are required to do each assignment he assigns. It looks like some of this students below didn't manage their time and blame the professor for a bad grade. Don't google hmw questions, you wont pass.
