Very hard on his grading. Avoid him if you can.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! you can learn the stuff yourself if you read the book, at least that's all he does!
Try to take someone else because he is a very hard grader and even when you explain to him that your graduating and you need this class he doesn't care.
He is in his own world; his teaching pace is of no concern to his students, difficult to understand,poor communicator, his tests are unreasonably difficult. You can have a greater educational experince with a book. Avoid this guy unless desperate.
I couldn't understand a word he said, he is one of those teachers that has lost there passion to teach. He just teaches to teach with no concern for his students.
His exams are extremely difficult, and he doesn't care if your five points away from a C, he will give you the D. When my friend went to talk to him, he said that at least we will know the material the next time we take this class. He's a terrible teacher, avoid him if you can!
His English is at the level of second grade and his passion for teaching is completely absent. He grades hard, and doesn't care about the results of his teaching. I am amazed that a man like this is allowed to teach at a University. Very disapointing!
This is a very hard professor, but if you work hard you will succeed in his classes. Hard grader, but his lectures are very helpful. If you are taking Production class, have to read the book for the multiple choice questions. I would always take him again, because he challenges his students.
Took his class in the summer 2005. This is my mistake. The next mistake is the teacher. This teacher has no passion, nor he has any concern of the progress of his students. The exams are nothing that you have seen in class. Even if you are on the border..he will give you the exact grade. Studying hard will help. Avoid this instructor.

The biggest problem with his class is his unclear and confusing teaching style. I got an A because of my hard work and previous stats knowledge. He's not ill intentioned, he just doesn't have it in him to be a good teacher. He curves the grades a lot.

I have never had a worse teacher than this. He cannot teach at all. Not only can he not speak English, but his lectures do nothing but confuse you. I had to drop out. There were over 30 people in the class when it began and 9 when I left. He also has an attitude problem also. He should have been fired years ago
I tried to get him to clarify some questions i had on some problems, he didnt answer them and in the process confused me. His questions on the exams are nothing like they are in the book. You get to the exam and your like what is he asking. Exams are not easy.

Dr. Afif is a really good professor. If your looking for a free ride, he's not the one for you. He's very good at what he does and just wants students to actually LEARN...wow, who would have thought
This guy is the worst professor for Productions Operation Management. He does not know the subject at all and relies on the slides from the book. Most boring class you will take. Try to avoid him at all costs. He makes the subject dry and does not use any examples to liven up the class.
I was told to stay away from him, but didn't listen. Very unclear, always rushing through material, and a big smart ass. Unwilling to help students and his test are very lengthy (~8 pages) all short answer and word problems. Gives no feedback on exams and shrugs you off when you ask for help. STAY AWAY FROM HIM! Teaches like borat.
The class is hard enough as it is, he makes it even harder, 10 Take home quizes that are hard and require a lot of time, material is really hard, he doesn't present it well, tests are pretty hard. Try to avoid him. He looks like BORAT, it funny as hell!!!
My friends told me to stay away from him, but I did not pay attention. I'm a very good student, but still I couldn't get him. He is really dry teaching. He does not show you the easy shorcut to a problem instead he will use the technical terms which it makes it harder to understand
Very difficult. Some of the lectures are not very clear, and reading from powerpoints and the book just does not teach very well. As a person and professor he is very nice and willing to help students when it is needed. The class itself is challenging and he does not explain too clearly. Nothing against him as a person, but teaching methods suck
He doesn't really teach much in class except formulas, all the rest he epects you to do on your own. Class time pretty much useless. Accent understandable but makes it more difficult. Would not take again.

Please DON"T take him, he'll just make life hard and frustrating, he won't teach short cuts, makes things much harder than they appear, even the tutors don't understand him, he is a VERY BAD TEACHER, i don't understand how he is still teaching, A LOT of hard homework, TRICKY tests, too much material in short time!!
took him for MNGT 377, 379, not on purpose but on accident. He is a horrible teacher. Even though i got B's both classes. His goal is to get as many students to drop the class as possible. I advise anyone who takes him, dont even try to pay attention in class read the book, and do it on your own. Just make sure you do the Quizes and HW.
I took him because i did not have any other choices for summer 1. I heard so many bad things about him, but it is not true. if you put enough effort studying you can pass this class. do the homeworks by yourself, read the text and you'll be fine. don't be afraid, but if you want an easy ride, he is not the one.
This professor can't speak English; doesn't know his field. He is a total waste of time.
WORSE TEACHER. I will tell you why. He teaches very unclear, he is all over the place, he writes on 3 board and is very unclear, he thinks everyone should just know things. When you say you don't understand, he tells you to read the book. He makes the test very tricky on purpose. He tells students to drop the class if they don't understand.

Dr. Afifi is an OK alternative, his accent just makes him incomprehensible. His tests are not tricky, if you knew your stuff, or even just a little bit, you'll find out it's too easy. Also, positive attitude is mandatory. Lots of students who took him already hated him in the beginning, and they're also the ones who ended up dropping the class.
hard to understand because he speaks so softly. His teaching style is outdated. Uses projector sheets that barely people could read. Also, he would not give enough time on tests or quizes. He doesn't use blackboard and his insane amount of handouts got slightly out of control. I couldn't keep up and dropped it along with 3/4 of the class.
This was the worst and most stressfull semester for me! Afifi is from those teachers that DO NOT CARE! Every day late in his office plus when you need help he would say " I do not have time" He went through a whole chapter for 7 min and it was on the quiz the next day. If you want to pass his class you have to know that you are on your own.

I should have just written a check and handed it to NEIU. HORRIBLE TEACHER! Wasted my summer sweating in his class with endless projects, quizes, homeworks to end up with a D! He doesn't care about his students or helping them succeed. Because of him, I can't graduate as planned! Just useless teacher with outdated teaching methods!
All these comments are correct. 110% DO NOT TAKE HIM, HE IS WORTHLESS. Unclear, his exams are nothing like the exercises in the book. You read and study the book and there is nothing like it on the exam. Alot of quized and alot of homework. I HATE HIM and wish the University to fire such a professon since he only creates set backs. Had to drop!
Horrible Teacher, Good person though but can not speak English, does not use slides, everything is on old handouts. Very hard and stressful semester. Does not give extra credit and will not pass you if you dont have the exact answers. Please someone else!

I still do not see the point of this class. I hated it. I was in class every class period. He made it soo boring. He didn't care about the students. I worked my butt off for this class and still didn't pass.

Probably the hardest teacher I have ever had to deal with. Most stressful class in my life. Even though I have 4.0 GPA and I did get an A in his class as well, there were so many people in class I considered smarter and working harder than me, who failed after the final or dropped earlier. Take him if you want to study and learn. Otherwise avoid!
You will need to do the work. You will also need the latest edition for the textbook and do not get the international version. This is for 379
Prof Afifi is a hard professor but he is willing to help. He gives a lot of extra credit and curves the test. Everyone was telling me not to take him because hes bad, but I think he changed. He's always there when you need help.

Caution the handouts. They were all at least 10 years old. 30 students at the beginning of the semester, <10 taking the final and even less than that getting a C or better.

Professor Afifi is not as bad as I thought he would be. He's kinda dry and boring.If you read the book and do the hw, you should be able to pass. I think the problems on the exams are easier and more straight forward than the problems from the hw. His in class quizzes are easy, exams are half conceptual(multiple choice) and half quantitative
You definitely have to study hard. He is a very nice professor. The class could be a bit boring, but it all depends on your level of participation. Have to do and understand the homeworks well. Exams include half in multiple choice format and the rest are computational problems.
very dry, monotonous lectures. gives examples and explanations, but at times they cause more confusion. if he actually showed enthusiasm in the subject, students would probably learn more.
Wow.... One of the worst professors, took him over summer for 377, he doesn't care how well you do all he cares is to give you as much as information as possible. I got A but the amount of studding you have to put is ridiculous. If you think this is an easy class your way off... Listen to your friends and avoid this guy....

One of the worst professors that I ever had. I think that Afifi hates technology because he does not allow students to use any graphing calculator. I think that is ridiculous to not learn an skill as know how to calculate statistics using a "advanced calculator." Also he use a projector to teach the lectures which some times students cannot see. I do not really understand why he does not use power point. Just a warning for all the students if you want to donate $ or low your GPA then take Afifi.
This is one of the worst professors I have ever encountered. Gives far more questions than time for his exams and a horrible grader that takes of points for everything. I have a 3.75 GPA and I am complaining. You get the idea.
This class is definitely hard with any professor. He is a tough grader but curves final grade. He is a nice and helpful person. I take back my previous post. lol
Miss one class and you are pretty much done. Homeworks are time consuming (5-6 hours). 3 tests. 40% of each test is based on class work and homework, you have to figure out the rest by yourself. Out of a full class there were like 10 of us left for the last test. Pretty sure half didn't pass due to incredibly low grades before the final. Avoid!!

Don't take unless you have 15 hours a week to study for his class alone. Very arrogant. AVOIDDDDDDD
Dr. Afifi has an incredibly thick accent. I am usually not too bad with accents but I had a difficult time with his. This is not an easy course, therefore, it is essential one understands what he is saying. He does not appreciate questions and does not answer them clearly. He also has a temper.. so beware. Plus are ridiculously hard.
Just like the student below said " do not take him unless you have to", very arrogant teacher, tests are long and very difficult, would not tell you what would be on the test. Im a good student got an B+ but this was my worst professor ever!!! would ignore your questions at class. Also he teaches Excel on PAPER he would not touch the computer all.
Let's start off by saying that I am a good student and as I read the comments through here before deciding to take this class I though I'll work hard and pass. WRONG!!!! DONT TAKE HIM!! WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Material isn't too hard to comprehend but he's a tough grader and will take every single point he can out of quizzes & test. Save yourself!
Very Confusing and Very Hard. Recycles Material. Very Old School. Uses a marker with a transparent screen. Not very clear. His exams are tough. 50 questions multiple choice and then around 8 questions solving. Good Luck, and make tons of friends, they'll definitely have some "material" to help you with.
Avoid at all cost. In a class about increasing efficiency, he still uses old school overheads. If you sit in the back of the room, you can neither see the overheads clearly nor hear what he's saying. Not that it would help since he is the least helpful professor I've had. His answer to almost an question is to ask the tutors. Terrible teacher.
He's almost intentional unhelpful. Will not answer questions through email instead instructing students to go to the tutors. Doesn't offer study guides, doesn't clearly go over test questions, the lectures themselves are basically the Power Point slides. You're better teaching yourself the material. Avoid at all costs.
Do not take a class with this professor. He is a tough instructor, the exams are hard, the case studies are hard, the take home quizzes are hard. I am taking 5 courses and this course is by far the hardest course of them all and of all courses I have taken period. No reviews for exams, if you need help you have to go to the tutor, he won't help.
Almost every week take home quizes, almost every week one chapter quiz, graded out of 500, and you miss A if you loose just 50 points. Three hourly examination (midterm) that has really specific and detailed four parts including multiple choice, T/F, essay, and problem solving parts. Time during the exam was not enough for those long calculations.
Do not take him! His test are very hard. In order to pass your will have to dedicate a lot of time outside of the classroom. He is not very helpful.
I had read the other reviews so I was really nervous. But I found him to be VERY fair. We had a quiz on each chapter but the quizzes were easy for the most part, and it forced you to keep up with the class. Also, all the quizzes together were worth one exam, so if you did badly on an exam the quizzes made up for it. I enjoyed the class!
He has a thick accent and the WORST handwriting. He makes you print out tons of notes that don't have labels correlating to the chapters or pages so when you go to study everything is unorganized. He teaches differently than the book so if you try to relearn using the book, you won't be able to and if you don't solve things his way, you will fail.
He gives too much homework , every week there is a quiz, his exams are sooo long he splits it in two days one day for math work other day for multiple choice , he does not teach well, u work so hard to get a crappy grade. he makes an easy course extra hard. STAY AWAY
He is really not that bad of a professor, if you go to his office and talk to him he will help you. he definitely teaches you the long way how to solve problems, but thats not necessarily a bad thing, everyone wants a good grade but does not wanna do the work. there are also really good tutors for this course as well. Extremely tough grader, expect to get F's on homework assignments if they're not done exactly the way he shows with his chicken scratch on the board. Homework twice a week, plus in class quizzes. Don't take statistics with him! Makes up his own formulas that are different from the book. No homework. you are only graded on 3 VERY TOUGH tests that are all written, computer projects, and quizzes. The class itself is not so difficult if you understand the material,but he just doesn't know how to explain anything. I failed and have to retake it.
If you were born in the 70's take him. If not, stay away.
One of the toughest professors I have ever taken a class with. I consider myself to be a good student. I have never not pass a classed. Have only received As and Bs while at NEIU but when I took him for MNGT 368 I got a D. Hes just bad at teaching the subject so you will have to do a lot on your own. He uses updated material on his projector.
"Er, excuse me rating site. I think we have a problem The instructor bar doesn't go any lower than 1." While Stats is tricky no matter what, this professor won't answer in class questions when students asked. Avoid.
The assigned work the weekend before finals week was goofy. I struggle to find time to study for any of my finals because of this point heavy computer project that covers materials we had to learn ourselves.
This class isn't as impossible as you may have heard. However, in order to get a good grade you do need to dedicate a lot of time to this class. In class T/F quizzes based on chapters, take home quizzes from homework problems. Case studies from book. 2 part exams, 40 MC and then solving part. To do well on MC you need to read the book.

I would take him, again. Such an amazing professor. Very old fashion, but it helps you pat attention more. He is the GOAT. He has great fashion.
Grade TBD. He offers many graded assignments such as T/F Quizzes (non-math) questions; HW problems (math) not in Excel but it helps you learn. 2 of the 3 exams are broken up into 2 days: Day 1 is 40 m/c conceptual questions and a short essay, and Day 2 is all computations. Take good notes. Work hard. Doable even if you are not great at math-stats!
This class was challenging but worth the effort. He made the quizzes, graded homework, writing assignments, and exams about 50% math and 50% concepts. If you are not good at high-level math (like me) YOU CAN STILL PASS! I believe he is retiring (but maybe teaching PT?). Don't be scared away. He is actually pleasant and very, very knowledgeable.
