he's pretty easy. sure the class is boring, but if you pay attention you will notice he explains things very clear. kinda picky with small detail. nice guy. it's not his fault that the material is hard/boring. just remember to do the practice questions.

OK so this class IS kinda boring.. but this prof.. apart from not being able to say "determined" and saying "de-ter-mIIIIID" instead, he's actually really helpful. He spent a few hours after class going over some notes with me and super nice!

He is quite helpful when you have some questions and can even tell you how to do your assignment in dail. And you can get a quite high mark in his course. However, his lectures are somewhat boring.

course material was so much and hard but the exam is relatively easy THe prof explains very well so if you listen to him carefully will understand everything he is very willing to help out students and emails to students often to keep track of office hrs and grades nice one!!

Altho he has this accent when he speaks, he still was able to explain the "textbook notes" clearly. I didn't like MCs being the biggest part of his mts tho. He is a nice guy, and i am willing to take 311 with him next sem.

I've only been in the class for a month so far, but I have no complaints. I don't know why everyone says he can't speak English. He has an ACCENT, get over it! It's not that hard to decipher. Good prof, very clear, easy assignments!

Shrestha always demonstrate his best effort in teaching, managing the course and helping students. Though he has an accent, his English is still understandable when you pay attention to what he says. Exams are very reasonable if you work hard and follow what he says in lecture! Reasonably good prof!

This course was very easy and if you have problems understanding the material, it's not because of the prof. He's got a funny accent but no real problems understanding him as long as you pay attention, which can be hard because the class covers so little material over such a long period of time...

Sort of odd, but helpful. Tried to make lectures interesting, but not very successfully. Very quick marker though, and clear during office hours, which you should definitely take advantage of.

Nice guy, tries to make lectures fun. Lectures themselves are not crystal clear and the notes are just lifted from the textbook. Book itself is also very vague and general compared to the practice problems and exam questions. Use his office hours and go through the material on your own. the course itself is pretty easy.

Dr. Shrestha is an ok prof. His notes are clear and exams are fare. He is very helpful in his office hours. I would recommend him.

Ratna is easiest prof for ECON 101. Lectures are a bit fuzzy, but he's extremely helpful and patient 1 on 1. TAKE ADVANTAGE of office hours from the beginning of term, don't wait until last minute like I did. Exam questions are straight from practice q's - get help for those w/o solution. I ended up w/ 90% despite tears and near-breakdowns.

Shrestha Ratna is believed to be another Lemche for ECON 101! Lectures are boring, but assignments are easy and the TA(Max Liu) is etxtremely helpful. Exam questions are straight from practice questions on his website. I ended up with a distinction for this course, and I believe that I can get an A+ if I work a little bit harder.Highly recommended!

Dr.Shresta is a very nice person and a very good professor. Maybe it's because I'm in Science that I think this way, but his lectures to me are very clear and straight forward.

Best econ 101/102 professor; I prefer him over Robert Gateman.

A very helpful prof. Willing to explain several times until you fully understand. Although initially it was hard to understand his accent, you'll get used to it. His quizzes are extremely easy, as they have no time limit. recommended

Difficult to comprehend due to his accent. Lectures rely on textbook-ripped slides and can thus be skipped. Really nice guy, will give you hints and tips on upcoming exams; exam is easy for the material tested is straightforward and relevant. However his accent put me off so much I stopped going to lectures and just studied from the book.

This professor seemed a bit unclear to me at first, but once I got used to his style of teaching, it was ok. What I like about him is that he makes an effort to help students understand the material. If you don't understand something or have a question, go to his office hours! I found it very helpful! Great course overall! Great professor!

Possibly the easiest Government and Business professor you will ever find at Sauder! Easygoing, easy marker, and fair exams (final harder than midterm, beware). His marking is random, and subjective, just write down what he says in class. He doesn't even expect you to make a handout for the debate (whereas other profs do). He's funny too + strange!

I like him. The lay out of the class is good. Notes are well organized and the quizes are helpful. He went alittle fast towards the end, but thats because there is so little time in the summer. Nice good.

He is very clear on teaching. Easy to understand, go to class and pay attention. I got A+, you will too, because the exam is so easy. Definitely recommend him.

His lectures are very good... if you sit in the front of the lecture hall. He doesn't move and only stays in front of the class. Has a bit of an accent so you must listen carefully. Very helpful outside of class. Exams are not difficult but are worth a lot which kind of throws you off. Each MC question is worth like 4% of your overall grade.

Should be the easiest among all the 400's econs. Make sure you understand all the materials in practices & go find him during office hours. He was so helpful that even when many students went to the office hours, he didn't hesitate to provide complete and even more in-depth answers to single one of us. Very nice for him & the TA. Very good course.

Majority of the learning needed for the exams happened during office hours. Real learning happpens when you do the practice problems, not during the lectures. If you want to do well, go to him and ask how to get full marks on practice questions. Do it even if he doesn't seem like he wants to be there lol.

Although I am an Econ student but I am not good at Economics. This is the easiest Economics class Ive taken, I think its easier than the 2**,3** Econ classes. Didnt use any textbook and study any of his printed notes. Just simply study the notes taken in class and do all the past materials and you can get an A. No surprises in midterms/finals!

I can see why some people may have been annoyed by the way he jumped all over topics during the course, but I found him to be very fair and willing to help. He returned emails usually within 2 hours of you sending questions and made every effort to make sure students had practice questions and quizzes they needed to be equipped for the exam.

He is not a bad prof as others may say. If you give your 100% concentration in class, you will definitely learn A LOT from him compared to other profs. Whenever you lose concentration for a few minutes there is a good possibility that you won't understand what he is saying for a good part of the lecture.

He is a nice prof.But he teaches simple stuff, some of which are just drown out from the textbook. His exam is easy, as long as you study hard, you will do well. if you are looking for good grades, go for it.

I think professor Shrestha is a pretty good professor. He gives great examples in his lectures and you can tell he is generally enthusiastic about this subject. His accent is really not that bad, contrary to what others have said. He is very helpful and willing to stay behind after lectures to help you with your problems too.

One of the best lecturers I've had at UBC. I am not sure if simply the lecture content was easy, or his teaching ability was awesome, but nonetheless, I learned a lot swiftly and easily from his course. And the assignments were just awesome. I don't think anybody could fail this after doing the assignments.

Shrestha is a breeze compared to Gateman. Course is taken entirely from the textbook so read it, sit near the front so you can understand what he's saying and it shouldn't be any trouble.

Great prof, funny too. Really tried his best to prepare us for the exams. Went a little fast at the end but only because he wanted to devote an entire class to doing practice questions which was more helpful anyways. Exams were hard but fair. This is also probably one of the easier Econ courses. No textbook required.

Quite knowledgeable in material and a nice prof. He's helpful if you go to his office hours. Hilariously low student interaction during lectures though. Beats material to death; you'll do fine in his simple final and midterm exams as long as you're awake half the time.

Excellent professor and easy class if you do the readings and practice questions - his exams (all short answer) will be similar to the questions. The class is interesting & attendance is required. The debate structure is a bit loose but he marks you easy (class got between 80 and 90 on it). Go with him! Other profs for this class are more work

Prof Shrestha is way underrated on this website (ratemyprof)! He's actually an extremely knowledgeable, helpful, clear, and friendly professor. His slides are crystal clear, no need to even read the textbook because you'll just confuse yourself, and you can tell that he genuinely wants his students to do well. Shrestha can TEACH! :)

He's a good guy! Sure he has an accent (easy to get used to) but he teaches the material effectively. If you pay attention during lecture and actually put an effort into doing your Aplia then I don't see how you can't get an A! I recommend taking it with him. He knows the material well.

Hard Midterm :(( Goes over simple questions in class and hard questions show up on the midterm.

He knows his stuff and his midterms are fair. There were some interesting lectures, but you don't really learn anything new if you've taken economics before. You are just applying the same formulas to different concepts.

The final was way toooo hard!! This course was a gpa destroyer! In class he only talks about concepts and he does not do any examples.

Great and nice professor. Always willing to help. When he said he would exam us things taught in class but not in the text book, he meant it. There were about 2 questions like that worth 8 marks, so better attend his class:) didn't spend so much time prepare for the final. Desfinetely a GPA booster.

He is a very helpful teacher, he tries his best to let students understand the very basic and core of economics. He is very clear most of the time, although when he explains with graphs, it can get very messy. Overall I recommend him.

Easiest prof ever, some people do well because later on is just math. I'm skipping other parts of the exams, because that's too simple. Math is where separate the majority from Ace students.

He's honestly not that bad. He tries really hard to help his students understand. (Although sometimes, his explanations can get a little confusing. But his TAs are usually pretty good so make sure to go to tutorials) Exams are fair and only test you on the material covered in class. Quirky and funny too sometimes. I enjoyed taking econ with him!

I liked him as a professor. Sometimes he was a little unclear, but the discussions helped a lot. He teaches the material thoroughly and more importantly he actually wants his students to do well. Study your practice questions go over lecture material and you will do well. Kind, has a keen interest in econ & can be funny at times! Would recommend.

He got me interested in ECON. Last term ECON was my highest mark because I honestly was just so fascinated by the topic and kept on wanting to learn more. Here's a tip: For ECON 101 and 102 GO TO THE CLASSES before the midterm and the final because he will go over possible questions that might be on the exam. Overall very good prof. (POTATOES!)

He's a very caring teacher and I truly appreciate his time helping students after class.

Why this man has anything less than a 4.5/ confuses me. He has a) Clear and organized lecture slides, b) EASY exams, c) lots of practice material that are relevant to the exam. What can you ask for more? His practice questions/practice finals don't have complete solutions on them so make sure you go to office hours or discussions if you are unsure.

Honestly, never went to his classes His lecture slides are strait from the textbook, and he posts them online. Do the Weekly online quizzes which are easy. Finals are quite hard but I think he scales it up

I really disliked him for the first 3 classes, but after a while, i realised it was me who was against listening to him in class. Once you get to know him, he is extremely helpful. Ask for more clicker questions. (They're better than his in-class questions.) Pronounces capacity as "kappa city." Other than that, generally positive and caring prof.

Easy A if you read the textbook, so you do not even have to go to lectures. Mark is based off of homework, clicker quizzes, 1 midterm, and a final. If you do not do well on the midterm, he makes it so the final is worth more, which is nice. As long as you do the homework, you will be fine. Would take again.

HE is the mastermind of the economy. I enjoyed his lectures and his brilliant mind. He may have a bit of an accent but that is nothing compared to what you learn and achieve in his class. Just attend his lectures and automatically gain phenomenal experience for your future financial life.

This class is extremely straightforward. Weekly online quizzes, 1 midterm, and 1 final. The lectures aren't terribly unique or interesting, but Ratna gets the job done and is good at including real-life examples and making the class applicable to life. Tests are a bit difficult, but I enjoyed the course overall.

Awesome prof. Took 101 and 102 with him and received A+ for both. Exams were easy and fair, similar to the practice questions he gives. Just pay attention in class and you'll do well. If you're wanting to take 101 and 102, take it with him.

Took his class in summer. It was definitely worth it to take his class. 10/10 would recommend his class.

He is awesome. I should also take my econ 101 with him. Easy to get A. Every week a quiz on MyEconlab, sometimes that is time-consuming. You can learn by yourself but go to class for i-cliker credits. By the way, the i-cliker questions sometimes will show on the midterms and finals.

Tons of students were very unsatisfied with his teaching style as he can come across bland in lectures. This is a total misrepresentation of Ratna. Go to his office hours if something doesn't make sense, he won't let you leave the room until you understand the concepts. Tough course, but Ratna made the experience worth while!

Ratna is a decent lecturer but sometimes parts of his explanations can be a bit unclear. His classes were enjoyable and exams were fair.

I really enjoyed Ratna's classes. During the midterm season I would go to office hours and he was very nice and willing to help. His mid term was harder than the final in my opinion. The good thing about his class is that if you mess up your middy he weighs your final at 80%. Studying from the slides and doing all his problems will get an A.

I went into COMM295 expecting to be absolutely screwed. He goes all over the place so be sure to have a quick glance at the notes before so you can scribble down examples during class and know what youre doing. The exams were pretty fair. He was not as bad as I thought!

Lectures could be boring at times. The midterm was very easy. In comparison, I found the final quite difficult. However, my overall grade was fine somehow. I'd say it's pretty easy to do well. I didn't have to study too much and there's easy marks from weekly quizzes and iclicker. Ratna has clear and concise slides that you can study from.

The content is sometimes boring so its hard to always pay attention to lectures but if you do, you will do very good in this course. Take advantage of office hours, the tutoring sessions aren't the best but if you follow the class and do the assignments you're gonna be ok.

I was rly scared going into the class cause of what I heard about him/based on his score. After taking his class I don't understand what all the fuss was about. He's a very caring prof and understands that the importance isn't in the specifics but rather the bigger picture. The class overlapped alot w my psych course and i found it very interesting

His lectures are very straight-forward, and his exams are closely related to his ppt/ hw/ practice questions. You will do well on the exam as long as you do hw (the hw isn't very hard).

Read the textbook, do mylab practice questions, and attend his class because he does iClicker questions. Lectures are dry, but easy pass if you put in the work!

Dr Shrestha is an excellent instructor. Although his class can get a little boring sometimes, the content is manageable and you're graded by quizzes on Mindtap (need to buy the access code), one midterm and a final.

Dr. Shresth makes sure everyone understands the topic. I think a few of the students were quite unfair with his ratings because he really does care about his students and tries his best to teach the topics well. He also responds really quickly if you email him/ post on the Canvas discussions page.

Ratna really cares for his students and wants them to do better! People are being so disrespectful to him for absolutely no reason. His exams are perfectly manageable if you do his clickers and study the notes and textbook.

Dr. Ratna can be a bit confusing at times, but nonetheless, he is a very good professor and understanding. Our class did terribly on the first midterm, and after that, he was very flexible with the reweighting of the exams and you can really tell he wants you to really succeed. He was very helpful for preparing us for our exams. Lots of respect.

Professor Shrestha is a solid professor. His lectures and textbook are useless, though. The online quizzes often do not correlate with midterm and final exams. To succeed in his class, do the poll questions (make sure you do them thoroughly) and make sure you attend office hours (he teaches more in office hours than lecture).

He Really cares about his students. Since most part of this course was handled by the main course coordinator, there were more works to do. However, professor tried his best to adjust. Especially, during the final exam week, he hold the office hours almost every week( sometimes twice a week) for 2hours ++ depends on how many students ask question.

Took both ECON 101/102 with Ratna and got 90+ in both courses. His lectures are dry and you can honestly skip them, just make sure to do the polls and practice MCs that he posts. He's a great person overall and if you put in the work it's easy to get a high score.

Dr. Shreshta is such a nice guy. He explains slowly, clearly and empathetically. I think he's great for people who are nervous to take economics or stem in general. He always stays late after class, and he is really caring to those in different situations.

Ratna's lectures may be a bit bland, but I didn't find him to be that bad. His slides are clean and easy to read, clicker questions had the right amount of difficulty to practice for exams. If you reach out to him for help he will patiently explain to you the concept you are struggling with. I didn't read the textbook at all and still scored high.

Very low maintenance professor, just complete the homework, iClickers, and exams. Lectures can be bland but his slides are straight to the point and very reflective of his exams. Offers all of the previous years' exams which are great practice. Consider the textbook supplemental, as he only uses it for the diagrams. Overall not as bad as people say

Ratna is, suffice to say, my favourite professor that I have ever had. He is the most amazing person, I can still imagine vividly in my mind, him saying "business school". I loved when he spoke about Coke and Pepsi. He is the most genuine guy, and he always put a smile on my face. Thank you Ratna. Lectures are quite bland and exams are quite fair.

Ratna's simply the GOAT when it comes to 295. People exaggerate when they say he's hard to understand or a bad prof. If you pay attention to what he's saying, he explains key concepts so much better than other professors I've encountered and focuses on the contnet. He's accessible outside class and holds incredibly useful review sessions too!

Ratna made 295 really smooth. It is clear that he cares a lot about how well his classes do in the course, sending us constant reminders to complete the practice tests in order to improve and holding many review sessions and office hours. He is also easily reachable through the discussion forums and will answer all your questions promptly.

This class is not a note-taking class, the best advice I have is to listen very closely and sometimes annotate his notes with examples. He teaches concepts in an understandable, but unique way. Go to class, pay attention, and the curve will get you a good grade.

Ratna's COMM295 class has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, the content clicks. The lectures can be dense, so annotating slides is key. Attendance is mandatory, but the curve helps a lot. I found unstuckstudy AI super helpful for exam prep alongside the practice tests.

literally the best prof ive ever had. Hes answered literally every stupid doubt ive ever had, and always holds office hours, which can go on for hours. Super accessible outside of class, explains stuff in great detail, he did rush a bit at the end but I dont blame him, he had to finish his syllabus. Hes the goat if I could I would take him again:)

This class is challenging, which is why many of the reviews are negative. Ratna himself is a great prof and if you actually listen in class, the concepts become easier to understand. He provides a lot of practice material that is super helpful, and he is extremely generous with his time giving lots of office hours.

Amazing prof if you just LISTEN. Put down your pencil- his slides have it all. Really peel your eyes and ears and you'll realize his 'rambles' are real-life examples that help solidify your knowledge. The content is VERY fair if you did any practice (which he gives SO much of). Also he keeps many office hours anytime if you just request- cares sm.

Best Sauder prof for Winter Term 1! I don't usually go to lectures, especially on rainy days, but his notes are perfect for review. Definitely a GPA booster if you practice. I've heard he offers extra office hours. Super caring and supportive!
