Toughest teacher at Blinn. VERY hard to understand, and just kinda smirks when you ask for help in his office or in class. Doesn't explain thoroughly - when you ask questions, he doesn't answer what you asked. Save yourself...take someone else!!
This guy is incredibly difficult to understand. Considering English isn't his first language, its understandable but for a Math Class clarity is paramount so this is where he fails. He knows his material though and is a bit cocky.I don't recommend him tho. Not very attractive in my opinion either.
i was in his class for a semester of alg. and i'm absolutely HORRIBLE at math but he helped me alot. i'm in remedial classes and as long as you go to tutorials and prove that your trying he does what he can to help. go to tutorials and try durring labs and tests, always ask for help but no stupid ?'
can't speak english and makes alot of mistakes when doing examples in class. He can make you forget things you already knew because he has too many mistakes in his examples
This guy is hard, but worth it. When you finally get the work, you know how to do it and why you have to do it that way. He's a bit hard to understand and he doesn't like stupid questions, but who does? I fought hard for my A, camping out at his office the last week or so, but I highly recommend him
This professor is honestly one of the best engineering professor. As long as you do your homework and study enough you will be fine. He curves his grades by a substantial amount every one of my fellow students that were in the class received an A.
Wonderful teacher. Makes math easy to understand. He loves to joke around with the class and will answer nearly any question asked, unless it doesn't have anything to do with math.
took int. and college algebra from him. Excellent teacher iff (if and only if) you want to learn. If you just want to pass take ANYONE else; only 10% of his classes pass.
Really good teacher and he knows his stuff. Two Masters degrees in math. Usually easy to follow and he is good at reading faces and he knows when to explain somthing a little more. He teaches those little tricks that they do not include in the book but sometimes he gets carried away and goes too fast when giving notes. Just ask and he will repeat.
probably has fantasies about numbers at night. probably a passionate latin lover
He teaches way too fast! he doesnt understand what this class is for people who are horrible at math in the first place or I think he would teach it slower. He expects you to understand it right away and he grades hard on tests.
He was extremely rude to me and the whole class when we first started the course. He doesn't take constructive comments well at all. He wants you to show ALL work and only in HIS way. He will stress that everything else that we learn is wrong and were taught wrong. He did get more friendly as the course went on, but not much. He made my time Hell.
Int Algebra. He was inconsistent, unclear and disrespectful. He kept trying to give life lessons and implied students don't care. Some may not, but most do. He is proud that most don't pass his class. Not into preparing for students for success. He lacks professionalism.
Great teacher. Made connections to each section and explained very well. Tough grader, but a helpful teacher. Has a thick accent, but you get use to it
i like calculus, but i don't really like his class. He's nice, however he grade tough. I learn more from the textbook than from what he teaches. Sometimes he is a bit inconsistent. No extra credit.
I really liked math and his class put a bad taste in my mouth. He grades really tough, and sometimes his strong accent got in the way of full comprehension. I learned more from the text book than from him. He doesn't give you straight forward answers to your questions.
I stronly suggest that you don't take Aparicio. I knew calculus when I started the class. I was getting almost all correct on the exams but he was super picky and dropped my grade by 20-30 points on each exam for not solving the way he wants. It is very hard to understand him and he never answers your question properly. DON'T TAKE HIM!
Very thick accent and hard to understand. He wasn't consistent with his teachings, bounced around from chapter to chapter. When you asked a question he wouldn't answer it very clearly. Wants you to do things HIS way. Would not recommend him.
Aparcio is rude, combative, unapproachable, and hard to understand. He consistently makessimple errors when working through problems in class. He refuses to be helpful to students and instead chose to mock and discourage them in class. Aparcio has it in his head that all his students are dumb and there's not getting through to him. He is HORRIBLE.
Professor Aparicio is a tough and strict professor. Everything has to be done his way or he won't accept it and count it wrong. By far, one of the toughest professors i've had. He's never lenient on things and expects too much. Also, he gets off topic a lot and decides to randomly give life lessons. Would not recommend.
I took his College Algebra Science and Engineering class (Math 1414) this fall. I personally thought he was great teacher. I only made a C because I didn't work as hard as I should have. If you go to Math tutoring, office hours or let him know you're having trouble, he will help you! I found that out too late but I wish I could take him again.
Raul Aparicio's class was definitely a challenging class, but he teaches the material well. He has an accent but you can understand. He is a nice guy, but make sure when you ask a question, ask it in the way he tells you on the first day. His test are hard, much harder than my friends Calc 2 class at A&M. Sit in the FRONT of the class, it helps!
Ive never been in a math class where the professor doesn't curve the exams!! He makes you do a lot of homework and picks it up randomly. If you're taking other hard classes don't take him. Oh and he's very difficult to understand....
He's tough, really tough & the material is not easy! Do not take short cuts to understanding the material, & do all your hw, & when you don't understand something ask him! He'll explain! He's very straight forward about the do's & dont's. So if your respectful & focused you'll do just fine. He's one of the best professors I've ever had
First thing he likes to do, not teach you the material and expect you to learn it. You'll get use to it and get use to youtube videos of Patrick JMT or Professor Leonard. He will make this class the most miserable 2 days a week. He always says "Stay up with me and you'll be ok" which is kind of true but he makes everything hard.
Aparicio is a hard grader and is not good at explaining math. He expects students to know the material and belittles you when you ask questions. He is overly sensitive and gets personally offended when students make jokes or even laugh (at each other in a friendly way). He makes calculus much harder than it needs to be and is anything but helpful.
Professor Aparicio is a really nice guy. He is one of those professors who actually really loves the subject they teach. The only part I didn't like is there is HW from both the book AND online. Kinda becomes strenuous towards the end of semester. Lectures are bearable. Class is the same every single time.
Professor Aparicio is a professor that definitely knows his stuff. The course is tough, but he managed to make it easy to understand the content and methods of going about solving the problems. You're definitely going to have to play your part in completing the homework and making sure you don't fall behind to pass. He's intense and pretty funny.
You defiantly have to go to class to make sure you get all the notes. He does give online and book homework but it's not bad. He drops two quizzes and four homework grades which is nice. The tests are tough but if you study you should be fine. I was very hesitant to take this class when I saw some of the reviews but overall he has been great.
Don't get me wrong, Dr. Aparicio is a great prof, but the class is difficult and I think he grades a little tough. Just do the homework, study a good amount and you will do fine. When I took it over half the class dropped the class, but that's because they didn't put any effort into it. Work hard.
Aparicio is a hard grader and fast speaker. He expects students to know the material and belittles you when you ask questions. He makes calculus much harder than it needs to be and is anything but helpful. ALERT: AVOID AT ALL $$$(cost). Uses his own textbook
Aparicio was a very poor professor, he is a very smart individual & sure knows math but should not be teaching it. He belittles people when they ask a question in class, gives LOTS of homework, quizzes, & moves extremely fast through all of the lectures. Unless you're extremely good at math I would not suggest his class to anybody.
Aparicio is awful. I took his class and got an A, but it was by the far the worst class I have taken in college. Avoid at all costs!
Mr. Aparicio knows what he's talking about. He is more interested in you understanding the material than being able to regurgitate exact problems you have previously seen. He goes beyond handing you formulas, he shows you the way they were developed and how they work. Do the homework to make sure you understand the concepts, not just the formula.
Do not ever take this class. The professor is terrible. I am a pretty good student, but im fighting for a C in this class!
Most definitely the worst professor yet, he does not explain much at all, what you learn In class is nothing like the quizzes/ exams, he does not care about your success, when asking questions in class he belittles you like no other, if you drop he talks about you to the entire class (happened to myself and another). WARNING: AVOID IF POSSIBLE
He is kinda helpful outside of class but be prepared to teach yourself the context and what you need to know for his test. He randomly chooses to take up a written homework instead of giving you a quiz so make sure to ALWAYS do it. Also shoe EVERY step on how you got your answer or he won't give you full credit even if you got the right answer.
He goes very fast in class and if you ask questions or answer incorrectly he will talk to you like you're stupid. There's a lot of homework and you never know if he'll take it up for a quiz or not. Be prepared to teach yourself the material, but I would recommend to just avoid taking his class.
Took him for Cal 3 and is by far the worst class i have ever taken, quote from class on one of the last days of school "I do not care how you do in my class, i can only try to teach you", does not care about students, tests are extremely hard, avoid at all costs. Over half of the class dropped.
If you try to go to his office make sure you call a day or a week ahead to actually make sure he's there. He changes his mind a lot about different things. He also messes up a lot in class. He's hard to follow and he gets upset if you don't know the answer (even before he teaches it to you). Also, his homework is 90% different than what's in class.
Raul is a great teacher. He is definitely an acquired taste, but he knows what he is talking about. Never have I had a math teacher that actually explains why a formula or graph is actually used to help me understand. He make this own notes and teaches straight from them. The tests are directly what he teaches in class. He is also pretty funny.
He is a good teacher and defiantly knows what he is talking about. He's passionate about calculus and wants to help you. However its a hard class partially just because Calculus 3 is hard. Also he gives a lot of homework that he randomly picks up but if you do the homework you'll be fine. Also Mr. Aparicio wind surfs, and that's pretty cool!
After earning A's in Cal1 and Cal2 at Blinn, taking Cal3 with Aparicio was the worst decision I've ever made. He moves at a reasonable pace through material in class but talks extremely fast. I was able to keep up but it took a lot of effort. He tries to be funny but he's extremely condescending. Avoid him if you can, he doesn't care about students
I was nervous about taking this class because of all the bad reviews but I've actually enjoyed this class. He doesn't grade things very hard and makes things easier the way he explains. Good professor!
I took his 2413 Math class during the summer. It was by far the worst decision that I have ever made. He goes extremely fast through the material, and it is not because its a summer course, it is because that is the way he teaches. Tests are hard and a lot different from what we have covered in class. If you want to save your GPA, avoid taking him.
Taught myself the material because he went super fast in class. Very condescending guy. I never felt comfortable asking him questions out of fear he would belittle me like he did to the others. Worst class I've taken! Definitely avoid him if you can! Calculus itself is fine, it's just the way he teaches it makes it way harder than it needs to be.
I'm currently in his Calc 3 class getting ready to take the first exam. This is a 4 week summer class each day we cover about 1-2 weeks of material. I expected this class to be challenging, but not as much as it is. The homework problems and in-class material is not representative of quizzes or past exams. He is arrogant and shows off constantly.
One of the worst profs I have ever had. If he was to slow down instead of showing off how fast he can work a problem, he might actually be good. But as it stands out of 10 examples he does in class at least 9 of them will be incorrect because he is showing off working it so fast. Tests are not representative of in class material or homework. AVOID!
Likes to go on random tangents during class, gets overly concerned with minute details, and seems to do everything in his power to make Calculus 3 crammed into 4 weeks as hard as possible. He assigns tons of homework and takes it up at random. That being said, he's a fast and consistent grader. You can fail every exam and the final but still pass.
LOTS of homework. Expect 20 problems/section on top of online hw. Prof rushes (makes a ton of errors) & spends too much time deriving/graphing. Tests lean towards theoretical math - make sure you can derive formulas or fail. If you're an average student, you'll scrape by with a C. You've been warned, there's a reason why all his reviews are awful.
I took his class for College Algebra for Science and Engineering and it was the toughest class i've ever taken. He teaches the theorems of each section and then does a few practice problems and expects you to know how to get the answer from the theorem. If you get the correct answer but don't show the correct work you get points taken off.
His class is very hard. He does't teach you well he goes over few problems each section. He will make you feel incomptent if you question him in anyway. Be prepared for the rants in class. Because in every class he complains. Isn't organized with how he administers work. You only have 8min to do the quiz. Only class im failing out of 4 classes.
WORST TEACHER. I am currently in his class and I already hate the way he teaches and everything about his class. Be prepared to teach yourself the material after ever class because his classes are useless and you will not learn anything. He likes to show off a lot and he goes off topic a lot. He is not a good teacher and I would avoid taking him.
The only reason people are giving bad reviews is because they probably don't pay attention or do the homework. If you don't understand something, ASK HIM! He is very helpful! He appreciates it when people actually talk to him! Do the homework! There is no reason to not get a good grade if you pay attention, ask questions, and do the homework.
Heres the bad thing about this prof: He legit goes off on tangents during lectures as well as will argument with other students if they ask him a "negative question" so make sure to stroke his ego when asking questions. The Good: His tests aren't that hard if you do the homework and study the material as well as drops lowest test grade w/ final.
This prof is very hard to understand at first. He has a thick accent and will talk the whole class. He is very specific about how to do algebra a certain way and if you do it incorrectly you get points off. Unless you know algebra like the back of your hand GO TO CLASS! It is also very test, quiz, and homework heavy and you have to do it all.
This guy really doesn't care about his students. He has outright said it in class that he gets paid whether we pass or fail. We started with a class of 30 and only about 5 people stayed by the end of the semester. He will only answer emails sarcastically and is extremely rude. Unless you already know the material do not take this class.
Was not very well with explaining the concept of working out equations. He would go over it once and that was basically it. A huge disadvantage I had within this class is that alot of the homework is harder and unsimilar to the notes he gave. On top of that, the tests were even harder then the hard quizzes. If you are not a study heavy person dont
In the past I have made high A's in my math courses and finished 1324 with a 98. The whole semester I struggled and had a 40 until I dropped. The other reviews about asking him questions and talking to him are false. If you ask a "negative" question he will go on a tangent about how he has more math knowledge than we did. Do NOT take him. Awful.
After going through schooling at Blinn, this has been the worst professor I have EVER had. If you have the option, do NOT take him, especially if you struggle in math. I usually spent 4 hours each day on homework. I maintained a 4.0 throughout college and the only way I did that was by dropping his class! Best decision I ever made though!
He's a really nice prof who will do anything to help you. If you ask for help or go to his office hours it really shows him you care, which could be beneficial at the end. He knows what he is doing and teaches well. Lots of HW and pop quizzes, tests can be hard sometimes. Class is very do-able if you try and go to class.
1325 Is not designed to be an easy course. There is no dependence on your calculator for this course, which means it is all manual math. Raul is an incredibly smart man, I would say too smart to be teaching this course. No matter what professor, you will have to keep up. Raul loves math, pretty funny, very passionate. Take Raul
He wasn't the worst professor, but he was hard to understand. I am really good at math and still had to go to tutoring because he didnt teach in a way that I could understand. DONT PROCRASTINATE THE HOMEWORK BECAUSE HE TAKES THEM UP FOR QUIZ GRADES. He is nice though and funny sometimes.
Professor Aparicio is simply one of the best professors I have ever had! He is incredibly smart and well prepared. His classes are hard but that's to expect from advanced math courses. He genuinely cares about his students, and if you take the time to go to his office hours and ask questions, and/or express your concerns he will be really helpful
I came in to this Calculus 1 class with a year of calculus already, I made a A+ in the course and never struggled. Will not accept and other algebraic method when solving problems, and counted off so many points. I was told that if I continued to use my same methods I would be forced to drop out, not good at answering questions, will ignore you.
This guy makes calculus way more difficult than it needs to be. Most students in my section received A's in Calculus AB with ease previously and yet struggled for a whole semester in his class. He degrades students for asking questions, expects all work to be shown "his way" or else it is wrong, checks for work on multiple choice exams???
At this point I choose the quality of one because at this point zero is not an option.
This man has got be hands down the worst professor ever. He made simple concepts of calc 2 seem like they were graduate level math. He doesn't care for you and your grade at all. He offers no drops that would do good to ur grade, no extra credit oppurtunities, and no curves to which you can benefit from. He does not care about his students at all.
While he knows what hes talking about, at least half of lectures he goes on tangents and will try to convince you that knowing the very origins of the math will allow you to magically comprehend everything. He seems to have his own unique way of grading that is extremely work-shown heavy. Hes enthusiastic, but sometimes hard to understand.
He gave a lot of homework but it was an 8 week class so it was understandable. We had an online quiz once a week, 3 attempts, 4 questions. The homework, quizzes and tests were all based on similar question styles so it wasn't confusing. Good professor for the math i took and i will be taking his class next semester.
Mean!
His class was super easy in my opinion, not sure why his ratings are so low. All his exams are multiple choice and if you get it wrong he'll give you points back for showing work.
He is a good teacher. The low ratings are not an accurate representation of his class. The only problem I had with the professor is he is sometimes difficult to work with. Besides that, he is a great teacher, and his exams are like his reviews. He will give points back to you on your exams as long as you show work.
Would sometimes go off topic and tell us about how we are not going to live long and that we are going to be in a ton of debt. Had quizzes in the first 15 minutes of class and if you were late he would not let you make up those quizzes. Homework is manageable but I would not recommend taking his class.
Prof Aparicio explains math simply and in a way that makes it easy to understand. He's funny, a little wacky, and seems to be sort of all over the place, but a nice guy. He will not remind you about online homework, so don't forget about it, it's what killed my grade. The exams are exactly what he instructs in class, just don't zone out.
I took this professor as an online credit for Discrete Math. He's such an excited professor about math and science and loves to teach and answer questions, but only if you go to office hours in person. None of that is conveyed online and he has very few lectures or notes and most of my course was reading the book with little help.
He's down right horrible. I went to his office hours for help, and he told me, "It's not his job as an instructor to walk me through the problem." He was very difficult to get along with. He was bias, and he was a harsh grader. He took off points for little mistakes.
Professor Aparicio is a tough professor but a very sincere one, if he sees you struggle he will make sure to accommodate you and provide help where he can. He is a hard teacher for CALC 3 but if you follow through with his homework and understand his lectures his exams are pretty easy plus he drops lowest grades to help out his students.
Aparicio is the worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't care about the students and will constantly say that the students couldn't handle the classes at A&M and that's why we're at Blinn. If you take him, you will notice things like: unfair grading, uncomfortable learning environment, textbook is useless since he teaches "his way."
i got an A in calc AB and ended up with a B in this class because of him! grades mcqs like frqs, assigns quizzes randomly, tells our class that we don't deserve to be engineers, makes you look stupid sometimes too when you ask questions. at least he had exam review sessions before exams, but don't take calc 1 with him and hurt your gpa please!!
HATED THIS CLASS! I would walk into class so anxious bc he always surprised us with pop quizzes. You can't reduce them or fix them, what you got is what you got. If you missed the quiz, or the lecture, or even the exam, you CANNOT make it up. His teaching is so confusing and always picks the hardest questions on the exams. Good luck.
Don't let my grade fool you, Aparicio's class is challenging, especially with pop quizzes. He sometimes teaches new topics, then immediately turns them into quizzes with misleading info, like providing an equation and later saying it's wrong. If you have calculus experience, you'll manage, if you don't, I highly recommend another professor.
Aparicio is an okay professor. He could be a little more caring but once you finish his class you understand that he knows what he's doing and is trying to help his students. He will sometimes give practice exams which are extremely useful, but beware he will take away most points on a question if the work is incorrect even if the answer is correct
Overall, tough professor but gives fair tests and is a reasonable grader if you have good notation. Make sure to spend several hours studying as this class covers lots of information in a short span.
By far one of the most worst professors I have ever had. He has no review material for exams, tests are not like homeworks or the random pop quizzes he does, gets mad when gets corrected and practically acts like any mistake he did was done intentionally.I highly advise that if you get him, choose a different teacher/track. You do not want this guy
This professor was one of the toughest graders, and it seemed he sought out to ruin your grade. Most classes had a pop quiz, with one having two. His grading was quite challenging, and he created tests that were more complex than those of every other teacher. Though I got an A, this class ruined my second semester. TAKE ANYONE ELSE OVER HIM.
His lectures weren't awful, but his tests were impossibly hard. 50% of the test was FRQ, and he would randomly take off a random amount of points without reason. Everything on the test was covered by his lectures, but the questions were 5x harder than what he taught in lectures. He does care about his students though.
Prof Aparicio wants his students to understand the content not just answer problems. However, he goes about this the wrong way. Rather than building an engaging curriculum, he opts to single out students and express his dissatisfaction to the class frequently. The lack of a rubric makes understanding his grading difficult. PRACTICE NOTATION
If you are seeing this message, PLEASE DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. My mental health deteriorated taking this class. He didn't let me make up any quiz or get excused attendance for a family relative's Death Anniversary. He tells you every class that you are worthless and not ready for the real world. He is heartless and cruel.
His class is really very straight forward, it's all in the syllabus, does not give extra credit and if you are aiming for the 100, I advice you to do the homework since he posted in day 1. Always go to class, you never know when he will give a quiz
He really isn't a bad professor; if you pay attention and do the work, his class is easy. He is understanding of circumstances and allowed me to take a quiz later for missing a class due to illness. Just stay awake and engage in class, and you are guaranteed a minimum of a high B.
Please do not take him because his exams are more difficult than they should be. I took Calc 1 before and I AM STRUGGLING IN HIS CLASS just because his grading and questions are really really bad. I'm pretty certain no one in our class has an A as of right now. If you have this professor, you are COOKED and FRIED and it's actually over for you.
The worst professor I have ever had, please do not take him. If you have to take him, fight for a different professor. Genuinely all he does his flex about him being better than everyone else at math and has quizzes almost every single class. He doesn't do anything for your grade and is not even nice to you or wants to have a conversation with you.
Any review above a single star is lying to you. ONLY HEED THE SCATHING ONES.
If you are genuinely interested in math and calculus concepts, Aparicio will be your favorite. He makes Calculus extremely engaging and you'll always be surprised when the class is over. Exams are brutal and there are many pop quizzes but if you study then it is manageable. He makes the course hard to over prepare you for the final!
One of the worst teachers I've had. He likes to see people start off with a glimmer in their eyes, then slowly strips away that bright spark through very hard exams and quizzes. Gives pop quizzes (10 total) whenever he wants, and atleast one of the four exams will shatter u. He wants to see you struggle in a simple course, and claims he's perfect.
This was the most difficult b in a class which I already knew the material for just because everything is graded extremely strict and when he gives feedback it is always in what seems to be hieroglyphics. Have quizzes whenever he felt like and any time he was questioned about something he would give a snarky remark followed by saying we should drop
Oh man I don't even know where to begin with Raul 'The Department' Aparicio. Multiple instances where I got a 60% on a quiz or test that would've been a 90+ if I had correct notation. Use correct notation or you will get a F! Other than that, I believe Aparicio prepared me in the jump from high school to college. Get ready, he's a one of one.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! This professor was probably the most ridiculous and difficult class ever. He likes the fact that people are going to fail and gloats about how bad the class average on exams are. Straight up told a kid to drop out of college, thinks he's perfect and won't take criticism. Wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy
If you just want the credit don't take this class. However, to discredit this man's passion would be a crime. I believe most of the bad reviews here are from people that are "mad 'cause bad". my grade was an 89, but he gave me an A. He really does see if you are putting in work. Honestly if you cant make it here, you won't make it in later courses.
