Will love you...if your male. His course gets hard at this level. He focuses a lot literature and the politics of Spain.
Honestly-he could be a stand-up comedian. He is the only teacher that could make a 2 and a half hour class bearable. Smart guy, fabulous teacher!
He is one of those teachers who you would take over and over... I wish I took him in 101 but he makes the class so much fun and the class goes by so fast. ****

If you want to learn spanish, then this is the best class. You get interact early on in class and you be amazed at how the time is able to fly by so fast. Interesting personality with the ability to speak and learn to many languages. five star, recomend
Can you say "your psycotic" in spanish? no? don't take his class and you won't need to.
Horrible teacher overall. Very offensive and crude comments. Worries more about his flamboyant attire than actually teaching spanish. Do not take his class.
I have taken this teacher for two semesters now (SPAN 102 and now SPAN 201). His actions can be a little surprising sometimes, but he is a great teacher regardless. He is very intelligent and knows how to teach.
This guy is very intelligent. He often goes on about various facts, stories, etc that have nothing to do with the class. However, the man is smart and will teach you a lot. Some of his actions are surprising, but funny nonetheless.
I loved this class. I hate spanish personally, but he makes it fun. His jokes are funny, but a lot of students makes comments that are unnecessary....great teacher and great lesson plans...
Raul is the best, most informative language teacher you could hope to have. He keeps the classroom atmosphere light and that promotes easy learning. He has many interesting things to say...when he's not munching on chalk. :)
Raul is the most fabulous Spanish teacher EVER. You'll have to work for your grade, but he gives plenty of opportunities for you to succeed. I think he knows something about everything and speaks about a million different languges.
Cool class. Raul is a great professor, very intelligent. He has to be commended for his patience in dealing with the idiot students who are fresh out of high school. The class is easy if you make an effort to pay attention and participate, it's an easy A!

Easy class, but spends too little time on learning grammar. He has no concept of numerical values and is technologically inept. Very consumed with himself. If you're a good-looking young man he'll try to be your best buddy.
At first can seem odd, but he definitely keeps you interested. I used to dred coming to french class, but I always leave Raul's with a smile. French is not an easy course, but he helps every way he can. All around a great teacher and a nice guy.

He is extremely amusing and interesting until you tire of his silly antics. If you do not have a good foundation for Spanish do not take his class. He doesnt spend much time going over things and can be condescending if you do not understand.
It's hard to understand what he says with his accent and he goes off the topic pretty often. He makes an effort to make the class fun. He gives breaks and the tests arent too hard. The Lab packs are extrememly boring but the aren't too many. Its pretty funny to see him eat chalk. he's creative
all i can remember is a lavendar lace shirt and shiny shoes. nevertheless i still remember EVERYTHING he taught me. i prolly could have recieved an A if i showed up more often... this man does have style.
Deleon is perfect for a first-time spanish student. He offers plenty of extra credit for the academically challenged. He incorporates the spoken language to the class in a way that supports vocabulary. He makes an effort to know his students although he will get your name wrong at least 7 times.
This teacher eats CHALK! Expect to be entertained while learning at the same time. I actually looked forward to going to class because of how cool this teacher is and how engaged the students were in his class. He's a great teacher and I highly recommend him to anyone.
Raul is a great teacher if you are there to learn. Show up every day and follow his rules and you will pass the class.Do the extra credit it is easy and it is worth half of a test grade. Be aware that he is very strange and yes he will eat chalk.
Whines about the cafeteria & how it serves meat also whines about his roommates & how he overworks. For him Kris=Krispy,James=Shames the Conqueror & Garrett=Gary Indiana.Hates Maddona & Jodie Foster.An easy A,tests are simple be prepared to be tested on Spain & South America.
This class is chill. Its an easy A if you apply yourself a little and show up every day. Raul is really funny but if he jokes with you dont take it the wrong way he will pick on u a lot. Play it on the DL and its an easy A and he makes spanish fun and is a really good teacher for first times spkr
Professor Leon is a nice person. His class is hard if you don't know spanish already. It is possible to get an "A" in his class, but you need to show up and turn in all the assignments. Everyone else on this rating are cry babies who don't like to show up to class and work to get a good grade. Loved his movies by the way
Raulito is the man. he is an awesome teacher. he is a little strict with his rules, but i understand because it helps him keep the rascals in line. as long as you study and participate you will pass. don't expect an easy A, but it is there if you work for it.

Raul is funny as hell, some people take him far too serious, hes an intelligent, and highly opinionated professor who teaches well. Its not an easy A, he expects you to do the work and apply yourself, but its a good class.
tough course, but raulito made it fun. hes really crazy, and expects alot outta his students. just apply youself and come to class everyday and you'll do fine. and he will eat chalk, haha, hes awesome. TONS of EC availble so do it. EC also on his test.
I truly believe the professor wrote all of the comments that are written. He was not a good professor at all, he favored the guys and was difficult to understand.
De Leon is literally the worst professor I've ever had. Every single one of his handouts (including tests) has written errors in English AND Spanish. His handwriting on the black board is HARD to read and he will get snotty if you ask him to clarify. He even says he hates teaching spanish 102.
I had him last semester and compared to the teacher I have now DeLeon is easy because he gives so much extra credit. Now I wish I took him for Spanih 201...
Wow this guy is GREAT. HAHA, he made me laugh every single class. I dont understand how there are so many bad ratings about him, i guess people are too uptight. Relax and enjoy the class, its fun and you will learn alot.

Raulito is a fun teacher! I really enjoyed the class! If you are doing good with spanish you won't have a problem taking him. But he might be hard sometimes. There are a few papers due & an easy presentation.
This isn't the easiest class in the world, but Raulito is very fun and very interesting. I really enjoyed this class. If you do the work and you study you will pass this class, but if you want an easy A, this is not the professor to take. I have seen some people saying that you need to be a guy to pass his class, that is completely untrue.
I loved spanish BEFORE taking this class!!! He ruined it for me. He is unhelpful and degrating to anyone that is not fluent. I was willing to do the work to earn a good grade, but he was unwilling to help, and as tripe as it sounds I really felt like he would make fun of his students. Dont take unless you already speak the language.
OH MY! DON'T TAKE IT!!!! Please, do yourself a favor. He is crazy, rude, and hates to answer questions. He yelled at a guy the other day for asking a question about accent marks. He said, "That would take too long to answer! I will not answer that!" He moves way too fast for a SPANISH 101 class. Seriously, don't take this class!!!!!!!!

Awesome teacher, if you pay attention and show up for class, you will be successful, if you are a slacker don't take him. He puts a lot into it and expects you to do the same. No free lunch here. Don't ask for handouts. He lost family this year. (That is why he wears the ribbon.) Put your heart into the language and it will reflect in your grade.
It is true that he prefers male students, but that works if you are a girl who doesn't want to get called on a lot. Absolutely hilarious..even if just for the entertainment value. Very approachable if you have problems, but I personally learn well from his teaching style. An easy A if you show up and at least try.

I love him and think he is fabulous! I very much enjoyed his sense of humor which helped taking the evening class. Very dynamic and intelligent. It is amazing how many languages he knows. I don't see what the others are saying about his preference for guys, he's nice to everyone. Can only remember a few peoples names though.
Raulito is a great prof because he's so quirky. Students who don't try should avoid his class (and if you're a slacker, why are you still enrolled in college?) The political component in 201 was fascinating. I can't say enough good things about this guy and his class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER IF IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME TAKING SPANISH. I took spanish in higschool so I know what is needed for first-timers and he doesn't cut it. He randomly will write and/or speak in different languages because he knows many. If you have taken spanish in higschool his class is great but he won't explain much so know sum b4 hand.
He is a wonderful teacher, definately devoted to his students. He makes the class fun and interesting. You may have to work hard, but you will leave the class with a much greater knowledge of the language.
This teacher is very biased toward men and make lots of rude comments to many students in general. He is informative and interesting but inconsiderate. He is also computer illiterate. He seems really down on America. I would not recommend this teacher for French 101.

He is confusing, favors men, made me uncomfortable, unwilling to answer questions, ignored me when I answered questions, spent WAY to much time on culture, gets off topic easily, is very self absorbed, hates Jodie Foster and meat, overall very unique (not in a good way) This class is ok if you already know the language.
This class was fun for me and it wasn't all that hard. Learning ANY language is hard but this class was much easier than my 101 class. Lots of stuff to do though like quizzes, compositions, videos etc. He's funny only if you're open minded!
Don't take him as a teacher! He doesn't spend any time on the teaching lessons and he expects you to get it right away. He spends way too much time on culture. He cares more about what the local drink is in Spain than teaching you grammer. If you want to learn spanish don't take him!
Did not enjoy this class. If he put as much effort into helping students learn the material as he did being flamboyant and telling us his life's story, I could probably have written this review in french. Instead, I dropped because I was tired of the lame over-the-top acting, and his expecting us to be fluent speakers by day 4. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
I did not enjoy my time spent in this class. When I would e-mail him or call him I would get no response, but if one of the guys contacted him he would get back with them immediately and offer them extra help. He grades unfairly on tests and is entertaining at times, but overall kind of unpleasant. I did not feel like I could even talk to him.
I really enjoyed this class. DeLeon is like no other teacher. He is the only teacher i have ever had that managed to keep the class amused for the entire time. I definitely learned a lot and if you do all the work you can get a good grade. Show up to class and do the homework and you will do well.
I don't see why a lot of people give him such bad comments here. Raulito is such a pleasant professor. If you listen in class, do your homework and study prior to exams, I don't see any reason why he shouldn't give you a good grade. Do extra credit work, especially in exams--it raises your grade. Very fun class for me. Recommended.
Raul is real funny, he makes the class entertaining. He is passionate about languages and history and if you are into learning French, he is extremely helpful. Have a sense of humor and you will enjoy the class. His explanations are real clear. His references to Jodie Foster and the way he stumbles around class makes it fun.
He is my favorite teacher!At first I was scared b/c he seems so hard with the all the gradings and assignments.But turns out that I fell in love with his class.He is funny, extremely helpful and very knowledgeable!He not only teaches you the language but also the cultures and history.There are many opportunities to get extra credit!Highly RECOMMEND
I did not learn anything. I had to teach myself. He isnt fond of girls. He is very big on culture. He speaks multiple languages to you while in class, very confusing. Tests are hard. Never ever take him.
He provides clear expectations, explicit guidelines, and many opportunities for extra credit, so unless you choose to miss class, there is no reason why you can't get a good grade--learning about culture is inextricably linked to language; if you think it's irrelevant you shouldn't be learning a language. He's funny and I enjoyed his class.
This was the worse professor I have had up at Mesa College. All he did was prance around doing ballet stunts, drink cough syrup and eat chalk. I got nothing out of this class, except Mr. De Leon's hatred for Jody Foster. If you are truly interested in learning Spanish, I would NOT recommend learning it from him! I don't know how he still has a job.
Excellent teacher. He makes the class fun and entertaining. Funniest and most memorable teacher I've had. Is happy to help students with any questions.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER UNLESS YOU WANT TO TEACH YOURSELF!!!! The only thing that this teacher will teach you is cultural stuff. You will have to learn the vocabulary and verb conjugations on your own because he will not review them in class
parlez-vous francois? this teacher did not get many ratings on his french, however, alot of low-blows on his spanish --- and he appears to be hispanic. oh, the irony -__- will give him a try, possibly, since french is a review, and spanish wouldnt hurt either, since i'm pretty legit in that too ^.^ au revoir!!!!!! les espero lo mejor!!!!
I don't see what is bad abOut Raul . I believe he is a responsible professor and yes I have learn much! He is helpful and loves what he does. Overall he is teaching for many years and in my opinion deserves some respect. If your choice for Spanish is he go for it.
A very interesting professor. A bit too flamboyant for some, although I came to look forward to his class. Heavy on theatrics and cultural topics. Less focus on textbook.In short, this professor is not for everyone but those that stick it out and do the work get a reasonable grade.

Quirky, broaden your horizons and you will get more than you expect from this 101 class. I did the work, all the work, and learned more than I thought I would. Sorry to say I saw many students not taking an active interest in their education. Bragging about not doing the work and struggling. Go figure. Looking forward to visiting abroad.
The Best teacher EVER! Easy , and you learn A LOT!
If you have no knowledge of spanish, this class is not for you. He expects way too much from non speaking students. I studied 6 hours a day and still had a very hard time. I expected a lot of homework but he's something else. You will fail if you dont know spanish already!!
He's ok. He's very sarcastic and isn't very helpful when you need help. He also isn't very clear and runs through exercises even though you can tell the class isn't quite getting the pronunciations. Not very easy, you really have to spend a lot of out of class time with the vocabulary. When he's having a bad day he'll make sure you know.
Best professor ever :-) He's funny, and a bit sarcastic. The materials are very basic, so there shouldn't be any reason not getting an A.
Very good professor great personality and good material
Professor De Leon is quite a character. Like many college professors he is very opinionated and likes to share his liberal point of view. Fine whatever, its almost tolerable. The problem i had with De Leon was his physical teaching habits. He doesnt pay attention to the classes needs and he gets uncomfortably close to students. Didn't lean a thing.
Worst teacher ever. Was all over the place, always yelling and super rude. Did not care about his students and wouldn't focus on any questions anyone had. I complained to the department chair because he was that horrible. Needs to be fired.
He made class very fun. I learned a lot about different culture and the world and just about life in general being in his class. i took him for two semesters. he is only "rude" or "unclear" if he notices that you as a student don't follow his rules such as texting or taking person breaks. that is this only time he will be sarcastic if you're lazy
Um yea he was very vague in his lectures but very picky.... I took only this class and I was going to tutors and trying my best. Read the textbook... the more outside sources you have the better your chances. I can see he means well but it was just hectic and stressful.
Honestly I don't know how this man is still teaching. I dropped his class after going to maybe 3-4 sessions. He was very disruptive and stressed me out huffing markers and stomping all around the classroom. For someone with PTSD he wasn't the right professor for me. He triggered me with his antics so I dropped his class.
