A nice guy, but does not know how to relate to the student. Beware.
Horrible teacher. Not flexible at all. I study constantly and I am struggling. If at all possible pick another time to take this class.
Terrible, terrible, terrible. Infact this Professor needs to be taught how to teacher. He is the most horrible professor I have ever had. uses someone else's notes and not really prepared for his class. You can't ask him any question on anything but the notes on the screen. You know why! Because he doen't know. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER IF HE IS TEACHING. As far as I know he teaches in the summer and might be teaching in the spring. HORRIBLE, please take it with anyone else you will have a better chance of passing and understanding the information. He only knows what the notes FROM ANOTHER PROFESSOR shows.
Never in my life have I encountered anyone so capable of ruining what should be an interesting class. This man should be avoided at all costs. He is neither informative, nor helpful. His lectures are composed of powerpoint presentations acquired from god-knows-where, and he does not deviate. RUN AWAY. Nice guy, bad teacher.
Very helpful and easy to understand. Will also schedule extra office hours to help you out. This is a must take class.

RUN AWAY!!! This class was HORRIBLE. I go to a four year university, and I thought it would be cheap and easy to just get this basic out of the way. BUT I WAS WRONG. He acts like everyone is a science major for a lower division class. Way too hard, and he really doesnt care.
He is very smart, but you wont understand a word he says unless you are a biologist. He goes through a chapter in about 10 min. He uses slides and you have to copy all of them down, read the book, and memorize as much as possible just to get a B. I used to like biology, now the word makes me cringe. Pretty nice guy though...beware
Late, Monotoned, UNINTRESTING, Doesnt no material, uses slide show only from where ever. Doesnt communicate with class well and could care less to help you out or make sure you understand. I dropped this because I LEARNED NOTHING from the start. BIG WASTE OF MONEY.

This was my favorite class I took this semester. The tests are straight from the notes. He give out pop quizzes that can only help your grade if you do good enough. I enjoyed the class and thought that the other reviews here were misleading.
I thought his class was fairly easy I took it over the summer made an a and didnt have to take the last exam. he test over his notes and lecture if you come to class pay attention and study your notes you will be fine. I did this with a family and a two jobs!
No sense of hunor, monotone, shows no empathy or respect and makes you feel like a jackazz for asking a normal question. He's the worst professor I've ever had. Has no communication skills and never wants to explain himself. Don't bother emailing him or going to his office. He'll make you feel like a piece of crap and you'll hate his guts by week1
I took this class over a summer and got an A. He is not easy and does not give a crap about anyone in the class. Only cares about his paycheck! Don't bother him with any questions bc he will say "Read your book!" I got an A because I studied my butt off. I have a family and work, too, but I won't lie. Mr. Ramirez should not be teaching. RUN!
I've read all the reviews & could only find 1 that didn't say something negative. I'm pretty sure it was Mr. Ramirez himself, bc I am a honor student & do great in all my classes-except 4 this class! He is the worst Professor and not just bc he doesn't know how to teach, but bc he can't communicate. He hates it when students ask questions.
My nearly 4.0 transcrpt has been slightly burned bc of this man. You will only understand him if you're a biologist. If you ask him a question, he will be real sarcastic and laugh at you in front of the class and then blow you off. Has no people skills and talks about his wife and sister in law through out his lecture which will bore you.
He doesn't seem to like questions from students during lecture, but if you talk to him after class he's very helpful. Pretty lenient, but you must go to labs. It's a college course and you're expected to do the work. He won't baby you.
He lectures from power points every single day, but provides good notes. Extremely monotone, it's hard to stay focused on the material. The tests are very detailed and require MUCH studying to do well. Labs are fairly easy and group work, but pay attention, because lab finals are difficult.
He is a really good teacher a bit monotoned,and says "K" everytime he finishes a sentence. I am currently taking his class right now im a junior in highschool and he does get a bit impatient with his concurrent class. The only way you could fail this class is if you have poor study habits, and do not complete his labs.
I am currently taking Professor Ramirez for General Zoology. He doesn't seem to care much about his students grades at all but I will say that his tests are fairly easy if you just come to class and take notes. He usually passes out powerpoint handouts that you only have to fill in information here and there on. An "A' is possible in his class.
Not a bad prof, he's actually really nice. Class is pretty hard though, and it's tough to care enough to get an A if it's not a major course. Grades labs a little rough for independent lab students IMO, considering we get next to no help from the lab assistants, and the assistants aren't on the same page as the professors.
Gen Bio and Zoo. He's a really nice guy and a relatively easy professor. He gives you fill in the blank notes so you're not writing the whole time he's lecturing. He uses the same slides as all the other professors, but he adds funny videos to them to break up the monotony. He waves his arms a lot and has hilarious hand gestures. Just study hard!!!
He's a really nice guy and very helpful although sometimes his lectures are mind-numbing. He has a habit of saying"k" after every sentence and after awhile it starts to be the only thing you can pay attention to. It sounds silly but it's true. I liked his teaching methods a lot but the lectures made the class almost unbearable at times.

He has a very dry sense of humor. Lectures monotone the entire time and you'll fall asleep. His jokes he tries to add are not funny and he's a bit sarcastic and snobbish if you ask him a question. He likes to make the students feel stupid. READ your entire book and don't expect any help from him. He's not approachable at all. No people skills.

I've had 2 courses with this professor, and I am not sure why all the bad comments... He provides fill-in-the-blank notes to follow along with powerpoints. Tests follow objectives and material covered in his notes. What more could you ask for? Also, he does know what he is talking about, and an all around pretty nice guy. I would take him again.
By far this was my favorite class for note taking. He prints out all the notes and you just fill in some blanks. It was kind of boring and he went over A LOT of stuff but it was all in the notes. I read the first two chapters of the book and then set it down for the rest of the class because he tested over only what he discussed.
i dont mean to be rude in any way. but he does not COMMUNICATE with students. i never used the text book... he said that some of the stuff on the notes fill in the black wouldn't be on the test and they were! also he was always a few minutes late and almost always exceeded the time of lecture!very unproffesional!
I really liked Ramirez. His notes were easy to understand and it was easy to tell that he knew the material.
His fill in the blank outlines and power points were very useful. It did require quit a bit of studying. Made it very easy to understand. I would take his class again.
Professor Ramirez really knows his stuff, all the exams are straight forward and come directly from the notes, no textbook required. He lectures very well, as long as you study your notes everyday, you'll pass with an "A". No doubt about it, I would take him again!
This was supposedly my last course before getting my degree. Of course, I studied my butt off during summer and got good grades.However, I got terribly sick one week and turned in 2 hours late 3 labs, and got dropped down 3 final letter grades.I'm battling with the OCCC faculty to do something on the matter, but apparently Prof. Ramirez is to win.
I did not like this professor. He would never answer questions during class and would tell us to see him at his office hours but he was rarely there. I went to his office hours three weeks straight but there was always a post it saying he was not going to be there. This teacher is extremely frustrating and not helpful at all.
The WORST Prof. I have had yet! I dropped his class after the first test.I felt that he wanted us to prove to him we were as smart as him.I am a older student with a family.He maybe good for younger students but a quiz every class period and super hard test is not for me! I didn't like him. He wasn't very nice nor was he helpful. His teaching was hard, but he only used powerpoints. Supposedly the test questions were on there, but then again he told us not to study the powerpoints. It didn't make any sense to me. I didn't know what to study. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone who wants to take biology.

this prof is the worst prof i have ever had..his tests are super hard and very confusing..the quiz that he gives are very hard..he expects you to know every detail of the material..he is very snobby and its a wonder he is still teaching..his class room avg. is 49..i do not ever want to pay for a class that i will learn nothing in.
Too much material flies by for our short class time (x2/wk) and our labs are always rushed. Unending power point projector lectures at the crack of dawn isn't very effective. Reminds me of military briefings (a.k.a. *snooooore*)
I had this professor for Intercession Nutrition (2 weeks). It was a really tough class, and you have to be prepared to study hard. However I liked Professor Ramirez teaching style and he goes in depth but is very clear on things. I wish I could take him for Micro. He was clearer than my current teacher. He knows his stuff. Just study hard!
Raul ramirez is a good teach although his class is a little tough he prepares you for it. during the power point lecture he gives you these fill in the blank pamphlets which ultimately becomes your study guide study that and fully understand what is going on and you will fly through his test he is sort of funny some times too make sure to show up
The way he lectures is not the way the test is formatted and he words the questions differently than what we were taught in lecture.

This class is a pain!!!! I wouldn't recommend him. It is so much information. You can tell that he does love what he teaches but isn't clear and some questions are just worded so weird. also no extra credit besides imposible quizes and doesn't use angel.
he might be a good person but not a good professor, unfortunately. if you are international, don't even think about taking him...tests are difficult, really!
Nice guy at times (not always). I was an A student but I doubt I'll be getting an A from him. Notes are unorganized and you are given no indication whatsoever of what to study for. For a class with such a massive amount of info, that is a terrible trait. Do not take his class. Save yourself the tears. Even good students will do worse than usual.

I took Gen Bio for majors from him and got an A. His tests aren't too difficult once you get used to them and study the notes. A lot of people complained that the stuff on tests weren't in the notes, but they were. Study them extensively. Lab is ridiculously difficult. Get good grades on those lab quizzes early on, or it will catch up to you.
GEN BIO FOR MAJORS, it was a tough class, had to study. His notes are right out of the book. I suggest highlighting the book with the notes, do that and read the text and you should get an A.
He gives fillup powerpoint notes. His quizzes are tricky in every class. His tests are very detailed and worded differently than the notes, so it is very tricky. His tests are fillup,mc,matching,t/f and short answers. He gives points for the homework. He does not seem to be caring for the students.
Very rude professor don't want to help the student. Exams are not the same as what he lectured. I advice all OCCC students not to take his class.
I had heard alot of negative things about prof. Ramirez and how hard his classes were. I took his nutrtion class in summer intersession although it was difficult and alot of info, I felt he has been one of my best teachers yet! He prepared us for not only tests but this semester everything he said we had to know I used in my A&P class. Thanks!

There have been only a small proportion of teachers at OCCC that have impressed me as much as Mr. Ramirez. His knowledge is extensive, and his tests are HARD, but fun. He is what I expect from a college professor. Take him if you want a professor who is GOOD, and are ready to take a class that is college level where you may learn something.
Tests are intense and overwhelming, but expected IMO for a foundation course. There's a lot to cover. Nice pre-typed notes with blank spaces to fill in to follow with the lecture - but don't JUST use this, it's just a guide! He is helpful and passionate about Biology. He'll help anyone. Just follow his rules and you'll do fine. :)
He is a very hard professor because he actually makes you learn the material. He doesnt give out study guides but he does show you ways to study. I highly recommend taking notes and then highlighting the book with your notes and then go back and read the material. If you arent prepared to study stay away from this class. Really bad professor, never seen worse. he doesn't care about the students, he doesn't care if you learn or not. He doesn't help at ALL. My advice is don't take him, avoid him at all cost. he should resign if you ask me. worst teacher ever

He does not give effective help and will only tell you to "read the book". He thinks his quizzes are helpful, when in reality, they just hurt your grade. Don't take his class.
Seriously the worst teacher i have ever had! Awful teaching style. Boring. Very Hard. Not helpful one bit. Cusses a lot during class. I have never failed a class ever an i was failing his after the first test. He gives stupid quizzes that he thinks are helpful but are from it. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! you will regret it! so will your GPA
I don't see how Mr. Ramirez adds up to the bashings people have given him. His syllabus and deadlines are clear. It's not that hard of a class if you can decently prioritize. Intersession nutrition isn't an easy A, cakewalk of a class, but you get what you put into it.
This was the worse teacher I ever had... He gets off track with the notes he can't speak well like he repeats the same words over or can't say them right he gives quizzes that don't help with tests .... and gives no kind of review .... The first test I took in there was do bad that more then half of class failed do we hot extra points

His powerpoint presentations are a pretty comprehensive list of what won't be on the exam. If you read the textbook and take notes, you can get an A. There is a summary at the end of each chapter, about half the test questions are pulled verbatim from it. The rest are from his lesson objectives.
He is a great guy. Funny and explains information very well, however, his tests are pretty tough. You can't study for the test by studying the outline. You've got to read the text, go over topics over the syllabus, and go over the outline. Also you've got to pay attention and be in class because he gives out certain test questions.
This is the worst professor I ever had in my 29 years of life. I wish I have read his ratings in this website before enrolling in my biology class. Since it was an online class I had to visit him in his office a couple of times and every time he was just as rude as can be. He is very condescending and not helpful at all.
He doesn't tell us what we will be discussing in each lecture, "look at the course outline." Get ready to read the whole bloody book to pass. If I could get course credit for reading this book, I wouldn't need this guy talking down to me for 4 hours a day. I've never taken a more awful teacher. 1000 level class shouldn't feel like a med school app
Insane amt of homework. Many weeks have 2 online chptrs, 2 sets of 40 questions, 2 quizzes, lab homework, & lab quiz. Last week of class we have a chptr to read, 40 questions, a quiz, a unit test (3 chapters), and a comprehensive final. You can't review your exams online to see what you missed-have to go see him in ofc. Will give trick questions.
I do not know of anyone who has taken his class and passed it. I took biology for majors and found it almost impossible to pass those tests. I do not know what I could have done more... I have a 3.8 GPA and I felt so dumb in that class. If you are up to an almost impossible challenge, go for it. He seems like a good person though, just tough.
I took his Intro to Nutrition class online and I do not recommend him as a professor. The work load for this class was not bad, but the instructions on assignments are very unclear. On the quizzes it does not matter if you are well prepared or not. The wording of the questions and answers on quizzes are written like they are meant to trick not help
Professor Ramirez is not helpful or student friendly AT ALL. If you take his class prepare to be on your own and rely on your textbook. Read and re-read the chapters because he likes to make the exam questions tricky and he changes the wording a lot. If you ask him for help he will tell you go back to the book and re-read the chapter. What a clown!
I took Biology for majors with Ramirez and after reading the reviews on here I was fearful but felt prepared. I would not say he is unfriendly but he wont go out of his way to make you feel warm and fuzzy. He does give pop quizzes so study before each class and tests are worded very vague and situational. Your attitude will determine your grade.
Big mistake to take with this guy, online during summer. The book was such a drag, I couldn't read another chapter and dropped. Too bad Ramirez didn't set the class up to be interesting, instead the student is tasked with an overwhelming amount of meaningless, dated labs and quizzes and on their own. Mind numbingly boring.
Yes, he's a tough grader, and yes you HAVE TO READ THE BOOK. However, I was thoroughly impressed. He knows what he's talking about and is willing to talk to you and explain it in a different way if you're willing to ask. He makes sure you actually know the material, and are not just regurgitating information you'll forget in a week.
Was really rude to people in class. When I tried to asked for help, he goes on and tells me that I should reread the book again, but when a girl asks him for help, he will help her in a heartbeat. His teaching is boring and not interesting at all, but he knows what he is talking about. Every day when you walk into class there will be a quiz to take
I took him for Bio I and Bio II. Great teacher that is more than willing to help if your willing to learn. He expects you to know the knowledge as his exams make you apply that knowledge. His exams are not easy, he makes you think about your answer. He is preparing students for higher level courses and does a great job at it. Overall great teacher!
This class was fast and tough. However, professor Ramirez had a great outline of exactly what needed to be done and how to do well in the class. If you follow his advice and instructions, you will do well!
Professor Ramirez is a very straight-forward guy. If you do what he requests in the syllabus (Read it!), you will have no problem with his Nutrition class. Do not take intersession Nutrition thinking it will be easy. Read the book and make sure your assignments are in on time. I did mine on the first day, but one was wrong and he let me fix it.
He is a crystal clear instructor. If you read the syllabus, you can't go wrong. He does not accept late work. He repeatedly says so in his syllabus. He makes it clear exactly what you need to do to pass the class.
I'm a junior in high school, and I just finished taking BIO1113 online this summer. Professor Ramirez is a great professor because he sends constant reminders of what's due, and his syllabus is very straightforward. If you want an easy A, he isn't the professor. If you actually want to learn Biology, you should DEFINITELY take him! I learned a lot.
He graded way hard. I had never made a B before in my life and got it in a nutrition class and it was a 89.3. He gave me C's on my homework which was so undeserved. Do not take him unless you want a hard grader and someone that doesn't help you in the class what so ever! Worst professor I've ever had and I never have problems with professors.
I took this class online. You can work ahead and you should. It made all the difference. Read the chapters and you should be able to pass the tests and quizzes. The only real downside to the class was not being able to review the quizzes or tests to see what questions you got right or missed.
He teaches this class as if we were medical school students. He needs to be more relaxed when it comes to tests. He is too uptight. Online HW was easy but the only thing that really gets to you is the tests. I do not recommend him. You are better off with Reynolds if you want an easy A.
Don't take this class if you want to learn! His lectures are okay but he gets off subject A LOT. If you have any questions, he will not answer them. He will mark things on your homework wrong even though another person will have the same answer and it will be right. He will make you feel stupid if you have a question. My first B ever.
Do not take this class if you don't have to. Professor Ramirez does not let you review your work which means that you won't be able to study for the exam. He says it's for academic integrity but taking away your ability to look over your quizzes and homework after it's graded means that you will have to guess what will be on the exam. Pure torture.
I was so excited to learn biology and I came here and he absolutely ruined it for me!! I hate this professor. As soon as I figured out how he was, I dropped the class! 25 dropped the class within the first week. 10 people were left. But then I dropped. And now 9. BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE. I am trying to pursue Medicine and he ruined my experience!
I read every single word of book, I'm 100% prepared &comfortable w/content. Still only got mid-90's scores b/c test question wording isn't just tricky, it's unclear and sometimes contradicts the book. When questioned, he argues that it's to test "critical thinking." Seems like tests are from older book versions and designed so no one gets a 100
I went to his office asking for guidance, his exact response was "If you do not know how to make your own study guide then you do not belong in college and should just drop out now." His lectures are long and his power point slides were 100 slides per chapter. You have no idea where to even begin when studying for the exams. Would not recommend
Pros - Friendly and generally upbeat in class, good at teaching, passionate about biology. Often forgets to take role. Cons - Exams are very difficult. Lab is also challenging and you will have to work hard if you want an A, especially in comparison to other classes. The professor can be kind of short when you speak to him one-on-one.
I took nutrition with this guy, and although his tests were long he taught the material clearly and thoroughly. If you pay attention in class and/or read the text book you should be fine. Slightly crass in one-to-one conversation. Every test had at least a 5 point extra credit question at the end.
His lectures are boring and bounces around the book. He doesn't like to answer questions during lecture. The class can be very easy. Couple of the test were outside of the class and I was not able to take one of the exams, so I had to drop the class but had a high B when I dropped. He has no study guides for test basically all from lecture.
I was so scared taking him after reading all the review on him. But honestly, he is not so bad. Just make sure to read the book and do all the homework on time. His tests are the challenging and it makes u think. Take him if you are pre-med or a bio major cause it'll prepare you for next.
He is super boring and annoying. Treats students like middle schoolers. He tries to be funny with use of words such as sexy but it just comes off as creepy. Lectures were awful and video heavy. He was not a good teacher at all. I wish I could have transferred but it wouldn't work for my schedule.

I hated this class more than I've hated any other class. Professor Ramirez is not only awful bus so is this class. His lectures are just stolen from the book PowerPoint with few words changed. He tells you don't bother printing but I say don't bother copying his notes. He's so irritating. I dread coming to class every time. Take my advice please.
He gives hints during lecture about what you need to know for the tests. I think many people expect the prof. to hand out the answers for everything and don't really want to learn the material. He gives tons and tons of assignments. Most assignments are questions based on the chapter readings with about 4 chapters per unit (there are 5 units). The assignments are not hard just time consuming, especially for those students who have other classes and work as well. If you do the homework and readings you'll do fine.
Objectives are clear. Professor Ramirez is a fair grader. Read the book and this class should be an easy A. He posts notes, practices quizzes and quiz shows to review for exams. For this online class, the exams are open note and book. Exam questions are worded tricky at times.

He is very scatter brained in his lecture. You can tell he understands the material very well but he has a terrible way of articulating his knowledge concisely. His lecture is as useful as watching paint dry and he does not offer any extra incite on the topics he explains. Chose another professor.

He's a funny guy but he's really scatterbrained within his lectures. You'll have to make your own study guides if you want to pass, even then its a wild guess when it comes to material to study. His diagrams are very helpful in lecture but that's about it. Tests range from medium to hard difficulty.
I took him for 8 weeks nutrition class. Workhard and gets the grade you need. If you are lazy you won't pass. Each chapters had quizzes for you to revise on. And also at the end of each exams he gives there is an extra credit question. He is awesome and he just wants you to learn and apply it.
This was not an easy class. This professor knows his stuff, but he doesn't know how to break the information down. I like how he tries to be funny in his lectures. He's alright, but be careful.
It is possible to get an A in his class. But, honestly I had to grind several hours to understand the material. Also, I read the bio book completely because so questions on the exam can not be found elsewhere. He does clarify some major points and gives us opportunities to answer questions. There is bonus on some exams but prepare way ahead of time
Absolutely loved Mr. Ramirez and his class. He does talk a lot about his past jobs, but it honestly does help with some units when you have real life examples to go off of. Be prepared to read! you will have a lot of book homework and also if you don't listen in class you will fail. You have to work for your A, it will not just be handed to you.
I have never given a bad teacher review in my three years at OCCC. Instructor Ramirez was blatantly disrespectful to me when I asked for assistance. He was passive aggressive, unkind and uncaring about the success of his students. Avoid if you don't thrive with this teaching style.
this is my first class that i dropped on my 3 years OCCC. He was rude, very rude. i wish he read our reviews. my cgp was 3.45 when i graduate. Professer Ramirez was a really nice guy, but I don't know if teaching is for him. Since developmental psych was a pretty easy class, it was fine, but he's a little unprepared and almost always flustered. The powerpoints contained the answer to every potential test question, but they're long ones so don't try cramming the night before.
Professor Ramirez is very friendly and very smart. He breaks down concepts during lectures in easy to understand ways and relates them to the real world often. General Biology is a tough class with 6 exams and a final so you'll need to read A LOT. However, there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit and each exam has around 10 bonus points.
I took Nutriton in an intercession with ramirez, and i was honestly scared because everyone had told me it was hard. If you do the work and get a "C" or higher on the quizzes and either an A or B on everything else, you'll be just fine. He kays everything out in the course syllabus.
I liked my nutrition class. He put everything out ahead of time so I was able to get his class done in advance so I could give more attention to another class. Worked very well with my others classes. 8 Test, 8 disscusions, and 4 homework assignment. Gave extra credit.
I took Raul for nutrition and he was so much better in that class. This class he got really strict! Dont miss any deadlines and ask him for help even if you know it. He is the type of professor that needs to know you are trying and not slacking off!
Took him for the 8 week online class during COVID. IT was a pretty average. He was not my favorite teacher but definitely not the worst either. There was a discussion and/or a homework assignment due every week, and a test due every Sunday.
he gives grades without any inclination which things you got wrong or why . good luck finding out what your learning curve is.
Professor Ramirez is very knowledgeable when it comes to his course. Be prepared for a lot of reading and multiple things due each week. He will work with you if you need help so don't be afraid to ask!
I took the 8 week course and it was extremely time consuming. I also work 45-50 hours a week, and spent around 20 hours a week just on this class. You will need to read the textbook. Tests are hard but doable. If you make the class a priority, you'll get an A!
Professor Ramirez is a professor that requires a ton of reading. Given, this was an online class and there were no lectures to be given. His course material is solid and he lined out the entire course in his initial schedule. As stated in many reviews, an A is completely attainable. Be ready to study the book to succeed.
Professor Ramirez was an ok teacher I had him for nutrition and I did ok and granted the class was online. But he didn't help a lot with the student and was so slow to answer emails. he also is very picky with the assignment like if you don't do it the way he wants it you'll probably get it wrong. he also doesnt give examples to projects he gives.
This was a 2 week class. Easy to get an A, but he does not give good feedback when you ask questions. He does not care about you. He will email the entire class constantly, but 1 on 1 he does a short response that does not help. I would not take him again. He says a textbook is required, I did not use mine at all. Easy A, but not good prof.
Does not take the time to help students understand what the material is. This was a two week class, and he did not use any examples. If you do things a certain way and get it right, he will still give you a bad grade for it because it was not done how he wants. But when you ask, he won't explain.

This class is brutal. You will have to teach yourself because he offers no teaching videos. All learning is done through your own reading, searching for homework answers on your own, finding your own videos to watch to learn the material and then taking the extremely hard exams. Do not take his class!
I took Prof. Ramirez for Bio II Majors. Lecture exams come straight from the learning objectives on the syllabus. If you are decent at taking notes, you should make an A. He is great about partial credit and high value bonus questions. Lab exams are difficult, but there are plenty of lab assignments to help your grade. Would take him again.
I had a very difficult time figuring out what it was I should study in preparation for the exams. It seemed as though this course did not have a proper plan or outline. The exams seemed to not correlate with the homework and the exam load was way to much for anyone to keep up with.
You will love biology until you are in his class. The amount of work is INSANE!!!!! he is not rude or anything but the amount of homework, quizzes, assignments, exams, discussions, etc. is just too much. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!

The first class I've taken at OCCC that I needed to complain about. This guy won't let you see the results of tests because somebody cheated before so you have to suffer the consequences. And if you took online classes because you have to work, good luck staying caught up. People aren't lying, course has an insane work load.

I took this class 2 weeks intercession, which is very durable. There are 4 assignments, 4 discussion posts, 7 exams and 1 comprehensive final exam I consider him to be very rude and do not believe in second chances. He is a tough grader and I will not take him again
My course was online with weekly in-person labs. The online work isn't bad but there is a lot of it and it requires reading. The in-lab quizzes were hard as there are only a few questions; it's easy to tank if you miss some. You won't excel in this class on memorization alone. I really like Professor Ramirez; he wants his students to succeed.
Lecture and Labs were extremely intense. There was a lot of work. This is a class you want to take when you have time to mostly focus on studying. Not concurrently with other hard classes
The professor is mostly inaccessible, assignments have unclear expectations, grades really harshly, and even in online courses you're unable to get instant feedback on "wrong" answers for assignments/quizzes/Tests. Class is structured well, but expectations are for a Biology FORMAJORS class, not the intro for NONMAJORS class it is listed as.
Highly Recommend you don't take this class. This guy acts like you don't have a life outside of Biology. No clear study guide for the harsh proctored exams. Won't let you review any missed questions. Please do yourself a favor and stay far away.
The worst professor I have ever had. On Sunday before our Thanksgiving break he told us we needed to do the assignments up until Wednesday so we could get ahead! He does allow you to know what answers you miss on quizzes and exams. He is not learning disability friendly when it comes to proctored test.
Might as well take the class on campus super strict on procterd exams and not very helpful at all do not pick this professor
He is one of the absolute worst professors I have ever had. I reached out to him several times in the semester and asked for help and he would just tell me I just needed to read the textbook. Not helpful at all I would never take this professor again even if I was paid a million dollars. So save your time, money, and energy and steer clear of him.
I have always been a straight A student yet I managed to do less than average in his class. He expects way to much of his students and even assigns work before the lectures had been completed. He talks to much and leaves no room for questions during his lectures. When questions are asked, he tells students to figure it out themselves or try harder.
Test after test after test. No matter how hard you work to stay weeks ahead you have work piled on so you never really are caught up. Is super strict and never lenient if an emergency comes up. Would not take his class ever again.
If you miss 1 day of class he will drop your overall grade by 10%, if you miss 2 by 20%, 3 and he fails you. He does not care if you are in the hospital, if your mom died, if your kid is sick, ect. These reviews are not joking when we say he is not here to teach you, he is proud of how many students fail and drop his class!
Overall, this professor is great at communication, he often sends out emails reminding us of the work due that day. The only thing I do suggest is PLEASE do not take this in an 8 week course. The workload is extremely heavy and it was very tiring having back to back exams. My grade definitely would have been better if taken in 16 week course.
If you can avoid taking this professor for ANY of the classes he teaches, I would highly advise it. This guy seems to get off on being the most difficult, hardest grading professor I have ever had. What you are told to study vs how the tests are laid out make it almost impossible to get a decent grade.
I turned in my assignment early and forgot to go back to reply to students I emailed him nicely asking what i did wrong to receive a low grade because bc i didn't know he replied rudely stating not to ask to make it up since the deadline passed & if i read it right i wouldn't have gotten the grade i did im very sensitive so i was crying all night🥲
I am a 4.0 student and this professor has been the only professor i've had issues with. His lectures are monotone and boring. The tests are extremely difficult and the material doesn't match what he teaches.don't bother going to his office hours either. Taking this class was the biggest academic mistake i've made. Don't make the same one as I did.
Don't take. Homework and lectures don't line up with the exams well. He reads off slides and doesn't teach. Tells you to just study. A and B + student but the exams is nothing what he shows on the slides.
Ramirez's class is tough, but engaging. The workload is heavy, but using resources like Unstuck study and the textbook helps a lot. Gotta stay on top of attendance - no mercy!
All of the homework he gave us was not related at all to the 50 question exams he gives. Emailing him questions doesn't work because essentially what I was asking for a more specified list of what I need to study. He said "if you read and not memorize you will know." Then he said "Good luck!" He is unfair and weighs the test grades way too heavy!
Worst professor I've had so far. It's an online class so obviously you're teaching yourself. He grades very hard on assignments and takes off for the littlest thing. I am normally an A/B student and received a C. Assignment instructions are unclear and you are told to make study guides with guidelines he gives that do not help on tests. DONT TAKE
Worst professor I have had thus far. The homework load is almost impossible to stay on top of. This class will be what your life revolves around considering the workload when it comes to homework, quizzes, studying, and exams. He also does not allow you to review wrong answers on exams so good luck studying when it comes to midterms or the final.
Professor Ramirez is tough & his classes will require you to put in LOTS of work, but in the end what you can accomplish will feel so rewarding. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does & that passion extends towards helping his students understand the subject, which is a vital attribute. Be ready to work hard & you'll do fine!:)
Tough grader who expects exact answers or marks everything wrong. No lecture videos, must rely on the textbook and your own resources. Treats students condescendingly, making you feel stupid for asking questions. I would definitely not take this class again.

It feels like I'm doing homeschool on my own. Be prepared to study a lot. The tests, assignments, and class discussions are all difficult, and you'll likely need to use additional resources for extra studying. I can't handle taking this class along with multiple others, and you might feel the same way.
There are no lectures. They do not work with students. They basically don't teach while their students suffer from the AI generated slop that McGraw Hill "publishes" nowadays. This professor seeks to make students fundamentally less curious. Expect a 16 week course with 8 assignments in one week at its worst. This professor deserves to be fired.
He was such a bad professor, I had to drop the course. A LOT OF WORK AND EXAMS ARE HARD. DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE!
This professor was unhelpful, rude and condescending. He didnt care if you had a death he would still give you a 0% on things. He is an incredibly harsh grader and doesn't explain anything or why you received the grade you did. If you don't have 17ish hours to spare a week on nothing but his courses assignments I would not take any of his classes!
So much homework and so many tests and quizzes where it feels beyond overbearing. There is little to no break in between when the assignments are due and the tests and quizzes are very hard and feels as if you've studied nothing. He is very tough in grading and will not work with you on trying to get a better grade or for missing class. Don't take.
It's absurd to be told the option I chose on an exam was correct but the other answer is more correct .If you don't write the answer exactly as he expects it's wrong this is not teaching future scientists to be independent thinkers just rigid followers. Also he states some book material is wrong but doesn't upload lectures for his hybrid class
when i dropped this class i had an 86% . he is so hard to work with on figuring out how to improve. i9 went to office hours and used the hw problem as an example i had an issue with to confirm my answer he confirmed it was correct but then marked it wrong on my hw. not sure what he wants.

His Learning Objectives are borderline useless on exams and the PowerPoints are just as bad. You have to teach yourself somehow for the exams and be able to do short answer problems (I cant). The short answers are worth most points on exams. Is fine during labs but the big problem is just that his tests are about topics that are barely discussed.
I don't recommend this professor. If he is the only professor left, wait till next semester. This professor is just awful. His lectures have nothing to do with his exams, and his exams are so much harder than they should be. I score at highest a C even with studying.
His tests are brutal, covering barely discussed topics in insane detail. He expects deep understanding and application without telling you how to apply the topics. His objectives are useless, and he'll blame your study methods, even if they work fine in other classes. Avoid this professor unless you want a semester of stress and bad grades.
This was my third semester at OCCC. I've had to drop this class for inappropriate behavior exhibited by this professor. Besides that, he does not teach thoroughly for what he expects in return. His objectives are useless, along with the power points. Very condescending when you ask questions. Avoid this professor!
This professor gave 20-30 assignments a week, I was spending 50-60 hours a week on this one class. He expects you to form your own study guides off his "learning objectives" for each chapter but very few questions come off that for exams. He doesn't allow reviewing of quizzes or exams to know what you missed. I wouldn't take him again.
