He is very boring!!!!!!! He has a very mono toned voice and he isn't very organized
Good teacher. Easy essays. Good class
This teacher is not very well organized. He doesn't teach very well and his sarcasim is not as funny as he believes it to be.
This class was FUN. It was linked to the History of JAZZ. The Professor was very knowledgeable and had great lectures. The class filed with discussion and held a lot of insight to the material taught. I believe he was the BEST English teacher that I
RAUL can be fun & informative, but, he will NOT coddle lazy or rude students. Also, students are expected to know their own grade average, keep track of your test scores, it makes him mad when you ask for it.
Professor was very helpful and easy to understand. Learned many great writing techniques, which I will use later in my life as a coomunication major. BEST ENGLISH TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!! Hope to have again in Eng 120.
Raul can be pretty boring! not to mention rude! but over all he's an ok teacher he's not a tough grader which makes up for his rude sarcastic attitude with students... I recomend you keep your mouth shut! and don't argue with him! he'll fight back!
fun lectures, witty banter and great subject matter! english classes dont get better than this!work load and grading are challenging but fair. this is "stairway to heaven" NOT "dazed and confused"!

Sometimes talks in monologue.
I agree with everything just stated...except that this is such a "challenging" course. Prof Sandelin wants to see EFFORT. If you're really trying, he'll curve your grade up at the end. The old 'A' for effort adage is very true in his case.
WARNING If you want to improve as a writer, consider someone else! Old skool, elementary teaching style, wastes time on petty stuff rather than instructing. Hypocrite, doesn’t follow his own rules. Late to office hours. He seems burdened to help outside class. Monotone, talks like he writes.
am a musician. so the Jazz/110 tie-in really interested me and satisfied my english comp requirement. we wrote a lot and discussed american popular culture. instructor also helped me with the little things like Grammar, sentence style, and writing with emotion.
good class! good class for majors with lots of writing. great class for learning how to write Term Papers. seemed hard at first but i got a 'B' even without studying for the Final. teacher is always in his office and will answer any question.
He is just dumb. He is a really easy teacher though. I should have attended class more often and I prob. would have gotten a A, but since I didnt I recieved a C. Be careful....he assumes that everyone "copies things from the internet"! when nobody does becuase the essay is about yourself! Essays are
I dropped this class because I thought it was sooo stupid. I got an A on all the essays and it was easy, but didn't learn anything. Very unclear teacher. Every question you ask he answers with a "yes and no" and leaves you hanging. Thinks he is funny and is not. Teaches like he is teaching 5th grade
a most worthy learning experience! lectures are fun and interesting, assignments and grading are challenging and fair. professor is articulate, witty and an incredible intellectual yet very approachable! a true english bonanza!!!
This is my 2nd semester taking him and i dont know what everyone else is smoking but taking his class again is the worst decision i made. sure its easy but class is unproductive. he rambles on about nothing and thinks he's funny when he's not. everytime i look at him i want to vomit
I loved this class! It's the classmates I could do without. Half are always stoned. The other half should be. At least, they would mellow out and not chit-chat with friends. I just came from Cuesta (SLO)where the students 100x more mature.

If you can find a place that you really love and write about it the class is a breeze!
i had some serious doubts about his teaching career once the semester was over.he cannot teach at all.he isnt sure what he wants and is not specific in any sense.takes up so much time even when not needed.assignments-4 in class essays(45min each,yea!),3 take home essays & 1 research paper.his gradin is kinda lenient.but i do not recommend him.
Raul (Professor Sandelin) wrote me a 5 page letter explaining everything I needed to improve on on my final paper. He also wrote me a Ltr of Recommendation with "glowing superlatives". Great guy...if you try!
he is extremely easy, clear and concise about everything. a few assignments here and there but they are extra credit.. btw..HW OFFERS ALOT OF EXTRA CREDIT.. even when you breathe! i highly recommend him...he's the most gorgeous teacher ive ever seen. you will never get bored.. theres always his hot muscular body and face to look at & daydream bout
i enjoyed class & his clear teaching style. easy A. notes are short, simple,& get 2 the point. very little reading required 2 get an easy B & if u read a few pages more than a "B student", then u R guaranteed an A in the class. 10mins minimum (15mins max) reading per chapter assigned.3chaps assigned per wk. hes nice, built, & good-looking. take him
maybe easy in a regular semester. but the Summer session is brutal. 8 week semester! aaaaaaaaaaaaagh! but I agree with the rest. Raul is very nice guy, happy-go-lucky and ready to help you improve.
Goes on and on about some things
THOSE STUDENTS THAT POSTED "NICE COMMENTS" ONLY WANT YOU TO SUFFER THROUGH WHAT THEY SUFFERED THROUGH! IT ONLY SEEMS FAIR TO PUT U THROUGH HELL BCZ WE TRUSTED THE COMMENTS ON HERE... THEY ANALYZE THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT SANDELIN REALLY IS!! btw.. he's not muscular nor good looking... good luck finding out & WARNING: he gasps 4 air every other word!
A very brisk but worthwhile class. Went from writing one-page paragraphs to a seven-page research essay. fair grader. but not as easy people say. you WILL learn how to write that's for sure!
sometimes he can be toooo thurough

prof sandelin is the bard of the english program! he has seen and done it all and if u r a willing student literary nirvana is easily attained!
Teacher very helpful. classes r fun and students get to joke allot. we're all like famly now. Its to bad there wont be the 120 Reading. Cause Raul would teach it.
I highly recommend the 'linking up' of classes. This one is 'linked up' to American History, another GenEd course. You'll basically knock two birds off the wire with one rock because the workload overlaps so what you do in one course applies to the other.
A class that's well paced, lot of work although never too much at any one time. Fair grader. I would've liked an 'A' but I understand. Don't miss too many classes no matter how well you're doing. He does grade down for attendance. At the same time ,try hard and do well. He grades up for effort

this aint his first rodeo! hold on tight for a bronc bustin' and calf ropin' ride through the frontier of english lit! with a gunslingers confident swagger sandelin is quick on the draw and a straight shooter! come high noon only one man will still stand tall!
prof sandelin slings some mean bling! this is one hot english jam session! hip and sassy! be prepared to ride the learning curve all the way downtown!
6 wk summer class. you meet 2hrs every day. next time ill take a regular semster cause this is so much work so fast. but the teacher is very nice a younger guy who cares and understands. hes super funny too. this is my first colege class he made things very easy. more like your bro then a profeser.
Really helpful and productive six weeks. Teacher is really nice and easy to get along with. Keep it up.
Not the easiest "A" but probably the easiest class to pass. Turn in your work. Talk to him after class so he knows you're not brain dead. And, your going to get your "C" or even "B".
Great teacher, really knows his stuff, very helpful. Interesting talker. He grades down for not writing enough so write a lot.
Relaxed atmosphere. No surprises. Teacher works from the Syllabus exactly as written. You can figure out when you need to be there and when you don't. But he does take roll. So, don't miss too much.
kickin' high and slidin' low, he is smart and he is strong, put him in you cant go wrong! OH YEAH!
This class is super easy, the teacher is super nice, has a bit of dry humor but its funny..easy to pass, allows late work..
Was very intersting, clear, helpful. It was a fun class. Learned some really good things and got lots of encouragement. I would take another of his classes and recommend it to others. Made the class easy!
Great teacher but make sure you do the reading, the whole final is based on the books you are supposed to read during the semester. Overall he's an AWESOME teacher!
Hard to believe all the positive comments. Looks like he ate the entire stock of last year's text books. Drones on ... and on ...
He was a little slow in getting back his comments from last semester. But it was well worth it. He wrote me a killer Letter of Rec. Sweet guy and smart teacher.
must know material very well for midterms
i took his class for eng 120. he was very helpful and very organized. essays were challenging but do-able. i recommend taking this class. cool teacher
Great Teacher, Really laid back, Doesnt stress attendance nor late assignments. Talks alot though but he is cool.
this class ROCKS! sandelin is smooth and snappy as he romps and stomps through a mind blowing ride on the english highway!
Very nice guy...good teaching skills and very helpful...very easy class but with a lot of work and very interesting...
this teacher SUCKS!He talks forever about nothing important, doesn't mention the stuff that is & gets pissy when you do it wrong.Ask him a question & he assumes you're trying to make him look stupid & tries to make you look stupid in front of the class.I got an A in the class and i still can't stand the man-& the hot rating is b.s.just so you know.
BORNING BORING BORING! i wouldnt be suprised if he wrote all of his good comments. he rambles, is rude, and everything he tought in 18 weeks could have been done in two days. STAY AWAY. this guy is a joke.
Good class. Good instructor. 6-week semester ran like clockwork. A brisk pace. But, an easy way to move up a notch. Now, it's 120 in the Fall and UCSB in the spring.
Summer semesters are an easy way to move up the english ladder quickly. Now, it's 120 in the fall and UCSB in the spring.
awesome class and awesome instructor. glad i took it here than mesa. teacher works hard to make everything run smoothly. and it shows! everything from lecture topics to grades was predictable from the first day to last. no surprises!
teacher is caring and genrous wit his time ready to help work out problims you have it shows that heputs lots of time in his class and wants you to do well
This teacher is veryyy easy. I didn't look forward to this class once during the semester. If you want an easy A, sure take him. But I am taking the English 110 reading class and it has nothing to do with english at all. It's all about latin hisotry. If i wanted to take a latin history class I would have. He repeats himself a lot too.
awesome teacher! funny guy. quite a few essays, challenging, but not unmanageable. he loves rock history which is so cool. i ended up doing practically all my papers on the sexual revolution of the 70s, bob dylan and the birth of rock. TAKE HIM!
this class is the easiest english class i have ever taken. But there is a price to pay because Sandelin has a monotone voice and it is the most boring class ive ever been in. Hes not a bad guy but going to class after the 1st few weeks became pointless & we started to do the same things over & over. We write like 6 essays and have a few easy tests.
while mr. sandalin is one of the easiest teachers ive ever had, this class was seriously the most boring thing ive ever sat through. after week 2 there is never a point fot you to come to class. you dont learn anything new you just go over the same stuff as the week before. if you want an easy class take it, but you will be bored out of your mind
Really nice guy and friendly professor. Not flashing. Not moody. Just a straigh forward class with an easy A or B for those that show up and try.
eesy class when you keep up lots of work is done in the labtime of claass so if you miss class you miss work if you come to class youll should pass
This class was very easy and Raul is a cool dude. He gets boring sometimes but he dose his best to make it interesting. He jokes around and is funny. The class consist of like 6 essays and a final research paper. There easy and all pretain to one subject of your life. Very cool and helps you find your nitch in life! Awsome tacher.
raul cranks up the volume to eleven in this rockin' romp through english comp! a virtuoso of language and banter, raul burns up the podium with blistering monologues and searing witicisms. a tour de force not to be missed!
He's got to be the one of the teachers that I would consider BORING. He has a kind of satirical humor to him, he hardly ever smiles when HE makes a joke, let alone, someone else. He's alright, though. I would recommend him for an easy A in English.
Sweet, cute, and fair. Good teacher. Take him!
he's amazing, truly cares for students, sweetest professor and very smart, believe me he knows what he's talking about. always make sure you are on the same page as him and see him for questions after class,(he likes smart students who enjoy learning)he is able to change the way you think about learning.
Raul is the easiest teacher ive ever taken but he will put you to sleep every class period. Like someone else said, there is no point to come to class more then once a week after the first 3 weeks or so. The essays arent hard and the tests are exactly what he says they will be. The only hard part about this class is not falling asleep by the end.
Raul was an interesting teacher he was SUPER easy and everything but also SUPER boring I missed a week of school cause I was sick and when I came back I didnt feel like I missed ANYTHING in his class. He tends to repeat himself A LOT. Take him for an easy A!
Very organizrd class. A lot of work but a fun exploration into my past when i got to write the whole semester on a topic i am pasionate about. thnks.
He is a great teacher very laid back. If you pay attention his class is very easy to pass. He stays after class if anyone needs help or has any questions. Sometimes he will let you go early. The finally very easy.
he is WORST teacher ever that I have taken during my study in Grossmont College...he is unfair with grade...gives lots of assignment...his class so boring..if you want an easy A don't take this class...even the material is easy but he make it hard....!!!
This class was so easy. He is super boring though and repeats himself a lot. Talks super slow too. Get on his good side and come to class everyday. It will pay off in the end if you're close to an A. Tests every week for the first half of the semester and then after that you don't do anything but write essays of the same topic over and over again.
This professor is BORING! He has this monotone voice that puts you to sleep! You have to chose one topic to write about the WHOLE semester, very boring! By the look of people's punctuation and grammar, they didn't get much out of his class. But important thing is it's an easy A class.
He is a good teacher. He explains everything, so class is easy to understand.
overall an O.K. teacher . his class is super easy, so if you're looking for an easy A then take him. he does repeat himself alot & is boring .
If you just want to get an easy A take him but if you really want to learn from this class take someone else
Super easy class! You write about one subject all semester (which honestly isn't all that bad). You write about 6 essays. His exams are super easy (if you actually study). The downside to his class is that he's SUPER boring and mono toned! The trade off is is that you'll get an easy "A"!
Raul is very sweet and always stays after to talk. Once he stayed an hour talking with me and another student. He's also very funny. This class is easy but not that easy. It's constant writing. But, I can feel myself improving as the semester flies by.
I enjoyed taking Raul's class. I believe that students just need to take the time to talk to him if they don't understand something, he'll more than glad to go over what you need to do/if you need the feedback. The quizzes/tests are all during the first few weeks, then you focus on your writing for the rest of the semester. Overall, 10/10.
Easy class and an easier A. His criteria is simple, and his assignments are straightforward. If you show up regularly, turn in your work on time you will have absolutely no opportunity to earn less than a B. On the downside, he can baby his students, and is not very expressive when he lectures. Be prepared to learn little but earn a nice GPA.
First 1/2 of semester is lecture and tests. As long as you show up, you'll be fine (a few tests will say things like: state what we talked about in the lecture). Missed one lecture and got a D on that test, but still managed to get an A+ with no extra credit. He's very laid back and you get to write about what you want! Definitely recommend him.
Boring but tests are predictable
He was a great teacher. Although I may say his class was quiet boring but it is worth taking. Class isn't too difficult at all. Could probably get an easy A. Only long essay I wrote was 12 page. He gives you time to write it so it isn't too much work at once. A couple of exams, less than 20 at most. follow study guide and you'll easily pass.
Went in as unsure as to what my first english class in college would be like. Despite the initial slow rolling start most classes go through, the rest of the class is smooth sailing. As long as you pay attention and complete the homework, it's an easy A. Everything is explained clearly in lectures and he takes time to ensure everyone understands.
He's pretty chill but a little boring and sometimes repeats himself. The class is super organized just show up every day the first 8 weeks for lectures and exams so you don't fail the exams. After that you can skip a few classes cause you just work on your 10 page essay the rest of the semester. He doesn't take attendence often. Wish he taught 124
I have always struggled in my English classes until I took his class. Through out his class we took about six quizzes and worked on our 10 page final paper through out the semester. There was some homework here and there but wasn't overload, his class is an easy A as long as you pay attention and show up. Thank you Mr. Sandelin for a great semester
Raul is very considerate when it comes to personal matters, everything you turn in is accounted for. Hes a fair grader. Honestly, I kind of goofed off this summer so I only turned in all of the exams that we had and a few writing assignments and still received a passing grade. I was sure that I was going to get an F but he understands how it is.
Raul Sandelin is a professor you want to get if you are seriously considering a career in writing. His experience in the field is EXACTLY where most writers want to be in their life. If you want a career as a writer of some sort, maybe production in media, this man is the man you want to talk to. He maybe boring sometimes, but he is excellent.
Prof. Sandelin is a very nice man, and he let us pick what we wrote about for the entire semester. The first half of the semester was full of in-class tests, which were all very straightforward. The second half consisted of lectures and typed essays - and I ain't gonna lie, his lectures are a tad dry, but he is a very generous grader.
The first half of the semester was exams on grammar. Those were easy, show up for that. Also you read a book and questions about it are asked on exams. The second half was all working towards a 10 page research paper. The work was straight forward but he was often a slow grader. If your looking for an easy A, he is that but beware he LOVES to talk
His lectures are boring but the class is super easy so your guaranteed an A or B.
Tends to talk most of the time. Lectures are understandable but quite long. Honestly pretty easy class.
He was rude and yelled at me in front of the class. He doesn't use canvas or email. He gets mad if you ask what your grade is, but takes weeks to give back your work. He has about 15 minutes of lecture that he will continue to repeat on repeat for the second 8 weeks. He doesn't answer your actual question. He randomly takes attendants mid-class.
I actually took Professor Sandelin for English 124 but, it was not listed in the course code. He is a great professor, although it was annoying that he repeats himself, it was helpful in case we need confirmation on instructions. I wish I had him for English 120, because Kaluzhski was pretty difficult despite me passing that class with an A.
Professor Sandelin has put together a fun and interesting class for people who like to write. We picked our own 'semester topic', so we got to write about what interested us the most. For example; "Baseball apparel during climate change". I feel that I have become a much better writer, and student, under the tutelage of Prof Sandelin.
Professor Sandelin was probably the easiest English teacher I've ever had, he was very clear on instructions and laid out the plans for the week and was just very easy to understand on everything he assigned. It's definitely important to go to class especially because he has vocal quizzes that are kind of difficult but other than that easy!
He cares very deeply about his students and does his best to make sure everyone understands the lecture and repeats anything if necessary to a student if asked. Did a little bit of reading and a few essays but other than that and some participation back before covid, and you were all set for a pass
his expectations for class are very clear and he sets a clear routine for his students which made the class 10 times easier. hes kind of monotone when he talks but super nice and always willing to answer questions. highly recommend
This is honestly in Easy A. He does pre-recorded zoom which you need to look at for quizzes. Papers every week but nothing outrageous. I do recommend this class and as long as you follow the instructions watch the zooms you should be fine.
He is a good english professor. His papers were so easy cuz they were all to be written on a subject of our choice. I do recommend this professor. If anyone wants to take English 124 at Grossmont, he is the guy for you
Overall this professor was so laid-back and kind. His class consisted of weekly lecture quizzes for which he provides online notes that will help you lots with quizzes! We also got to choose our own topic to write about throughout the whole semester which really helped. When we did write papers they were very short, overall a good experience!
He was cool and chill. His lecture were a little boring but it pertained to the course and made it easy to pass.
Easy, but boring class. He repeats himself a lot and will lecture on the same thing like 3 times. The quizzes are very easy and he grades all other assignments fairly, making it easy to pass the class. Attendance is not mandatory and he frequently lets class out early.
Professor Sandelin is overall a chill dude. He does ramble a LOT, especially after explaining something. He also tends to explain what he just explained 3 times or so. But he's very lenient with turning stuff in late, and gives a lot of feedback. But he could be more clear about his grading criteria. Recommended for an easy, but VERY boring class.
The class is straightforward; you will need to watch the lecture videos for quizzes-- I found them interesting.
He is very nice but extremely repetitive. You will write 4 essays and take about 8 small quizzes. Take notes when he mentions the lecture being related to a quiz as he gives you all the answers. The 4 essays are based on a topic that YOU choose so make sure to use one that you can expand on for 16 weeks. Every lecture is exactly like the last.
He is so repetitive and talks so slow with such a like bored voice idk. I couldn't listen to his lectures for more than 15 mins because he would repeat THE SAME THINGS every lecture and over explains almost everything. I didnt go to half of the classes and just made sure to turn in almost everything. Oh makes you write hand written 2 pgs journals-
I found this class to be quite unengaging. He often repeats himself, which makes the three-hour sessions feel unnecessarily long. Most of the content could be effectively covered in a much shorter time. He tends to be rude and defensive when students ask questions, which discourages participation and makes it challenging to clarify doubts.
This class is extremely unorganized, poorly planned, and lacks a lot of logic. I genuinely feel as if I took this class and lost more brain cells than I gained. He'll make you hand write assignments just to turn it into a scanned pdf and submit it electronically because “if the world ends you wont have a phone or tablet to take notes.”
He does a really good job at wasting your time. He will make you watch online lectures just for you to come in to watch him do the same exact lecture, just now in person with a sprinkle of ADHD and Dementia.
Professor Sandelin's class can be repetitive, but the work is manageable. Lectures drag on, but quizzes are easy if you pay attention. unstuck study was a lifesaver for preparing efficiently.
Very picky with grading. Quizzes are hyper-specific. Incredibly boring if being engaged matters to you. You will do just fine, it's not the most difficult class, but it does feel like a waste of time. It feels like his curriculum happens on the fly rather than prepared. Quite literally just take anyone else.
nice guy, and decently easy class, but I did not learn anything in this class. It was supposed to be an advanced college level english class, but he spent quite literally the entire semester repeating 3rd grade level rudimentary english skills. His lectures were incredibly boring and strewn on. Would not reccomend if you actually want to advance.
Honestly I didnt find his class hard, Im not the best at English but English 120 prepared well enough to the point this class so easy it was insane. He takes forever to respond to your messages but he isnt mean or anything. Overall very nice guy, I hate English so I found his assingments very boring but maybe its just me. Overall not bad
An easy, but boring class. He's a nice guy and genuinely wants you to succeed, but I couldn't sit through his lectures at all. Content and homework-wise, it's straightforward, but he speaks in a monotone voice and repeatedly!!! rambles about the same topic during lectures. If you want something generally easy, I recommend him, though!
