He is an arrogant and cruel man. Required course for CSE majors. Taught us mostly how the stat formulas were derived using calc2 integrals. No real world application to the material. Laughs at student's questions, insulting, ruthless grader. DONT TAKE

Extremely difficult. I wish I read this before I took it. More than 1/2 the class failed. He laughs at you when you counter him on something. Very unfair. Leaves right after class. SI DID NOT HELP! High failure rate. Can't see how he can still teach

Everything has to be written down, and I mean everything. He won't just look at your work and know you understand it, he wants every little detail...
Yea, the class is hard. Face the facts its math and at OU. Do the old tests some of the questions are exactly the same, they help. Over 1/2 the class failed just study though the informations isnt hard only the tests are

He is HORRIBLE!!!
Worst teacher I have ever encountered. He is extremely rude and does not care about his students. He is not there to teach. He does not admit that he makes mistakes, which can be taken out on the grade recieved for the class. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES TAUGHT BY PROFESSOR KHATTREE!
A cruel teacher. Laughs at student's questions and weaknesses. Refuses to admit mistakes. Was on the phone (personal call) and wouldn't see me for 35 minutes during office hours, and then seemed irritated that I was there.
The above explanations pretty much covered what I wanted to say. I got a 3.4 and that was the highest or the 2nd highest in the class. Horrible professor, and he's not very helpful. Worst weeks of my life. I also wish I read this before taking the class.
Never take him!! Class average was 60% at best. I talked to him when we got our exams back and he told me "Don't expect to get 100%, I wouldn't get 100% if I took this test." Hello? You're teaching the class!!
Horrible. Just horrible in every aspect of life. This man (or hting) has no soul. He's condescending whenever anyone asks questions, and he grades your exam if you're his worst enemy. And when he makes a mistake in grading, he denies it just to keep his dignity. He'll fail half the class on purpose, with the highest grade being in the B range.
I wasn't a student of his, but taught the SI section. I was glad he wasn't the prof I took it from. He was nice enough, but talked so quietly and with such a strong accent he was hard to understand. he also missed a lot of class.
One word: ****.
Brillant, but not a very good teacher
STA 505/Intro to SAS. No exams, just weekly homework and one presentation. Presentations were a total waste of time. Fair grader but not a very good teacher.
Does NOT speak english very well. Writes only large enough for the front row to read. Wants you to write entire paragraphs for test answers (even if your math is 100% correct, you will lose all points unless you write an insane amount of jargon and "steps" to why you did it)...even then he will mark you down for nothing. Class avg is under 50%
I would not recommend him to someone who speaks the same language as him. He expects you to know the material prior to class. He asks that you basically write an entire paragraph for every answer in order to receive credit. If you skip any steps even 1+1=2 you will lose a lot of credit. If you are going to take stats, don't take it with this guy.
Impossible to understand, handwriting is almost in as much a different language as his speaking. Class average on tests were around 45% that pretty much says it all. Be prepared to be frustrated, you could still do all the math right all the steps right but if you dont put your answer directly under the work you get 50% of the points! He does curve
...just terrible..... will answer your questions though...but grading is really strict...if you want a score 80 above, you have to be a super writer and reasoner in his exam... not recommand AT ALL !! if you really have to, GOOD LUCK!
He speaks very quietly and not very clearly and has a thick accent. His hand writing is very difficult to read especially if you don't sit right up front. He skips steps even though he expects you to write down all of the steps. The lectures are a waste of time because you can't understand him or his writing and the book is useless.
Khattree is one of the worst professors I have EVER had en my entire academic career. #1 He hates students. I don't even know why he is a teacher. #2 He is never wrong. You are always wrong. #3 He consistently is late to class. His exams are impossible and he purposely 'weeds' students out of his class. AVOID THIS ARROGANT EXCUSE OF A PROFESSOR!!!
Tends to mumble a lot which makes some of his lecture hard to understand. His writing is rather sloppy, making it hard to take notes. Exams were so long it was impossible to finish, even if you knew what you were doing. Expects you to write up solutions exactly the way he would - be prepared for that. Try to take someone else!
I am bad at math to begin with. His accent was so thick that I could not understand a thing. Advice: If you can't understand him in the beginning, drop the class NOW!
He is a terrible prof. His accent is extremely thick and he is terrible at explaining new concepts. Do not take STATS with this guy! Does not answer questions, and thinks we are all STAT geniuses so he skips steps, assuming we all know what he is talking about. TERRIBLE, absolutely terrible. (Oh yeah and tests are timed, 45 minutes!!! UGH!!!)
This guy really needs to consider a career change. People like to rag on him for his Indian accent, but a substitute we had who was way harder to understand still taught the class better. He just really doesn't do that well with students and he would get much more appreciation working in some other job that does not involve teaching.
Don't waste your time with this professor. He doesn't care if you understand the information and if you asks questions he answers them with sarcasm. His lectures are unclear. I seriously believe this teacher finds enjoyment in having his students fail. All the tutoring in the world won't help you pass his class. Don't waste your time.
Great Professor, very nice, helpful, knowlegable
Terrible, terrible teacher. I'm surprised they even hired him. Thick accent, most of the time I was busy trying to figure out what he was saying rather than learn the material. Tests are impossible and does not offer much help. Will not curve and takes points off for the smallest things. My grade forced me to drop and I know many in the same boat.
Intro to SAS should be a good learning experience. Khattre's inability to teach makes useful class harder than needed for no good reason. He was also unable to find errors or make helpful comments on SAS programs. He wrote a SAS textbook and didn't use it for HIS class. That says something about his abilities.
do not take. English is his problem.
The worst experience of my life. He treats his students like livestock. He grading system is completely arbitrary, taking points off for things that are subjective. He is consistently late to class even on days of exams. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Even if you think you have to. You will regret it and waste not only your time, but tuition.
DO NOT take him! While he is very smart, he is a bad teacher. I am good at math, i actually love it but i did not do well in his class. His grading system is very unfair. Just do yourself a favor and take someone else.
I took it as an easy GPA booster but it ended up being one of the toughest courses I've ever taken. Very meticulous grader, MUST SHOW EVERY STEP. Does not like to admit that he's wrong. There's a curve on the final point total. The average on most of the tests was less than 50%. Started with 20 or so and ended with about 10 students in class.
the WORST professor i have ever had in my life. VERY rude, unclear, unwilling to help, impossible tests, and no sense of grading(0 partial credit). Even when my answer was proven right no credit was given back. Averages on 1st two tests: 21%, 28%. DO NOT TAKE HIM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES HE GAVE 14/20 people under a C so it couldn't transfer :(
Impossibly to understand. Plain and simple. Expects you to actually explain how you counted for some answer. Exams are too long for the time allotted. LITERALLY NO ONE FINISHED in 45 minutes. Not a single person.
WORST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD! Completely unwilling to help in difficult situations! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
horrible. took him because this was my only option, it would have been worth it to wait the semester. test 3 average 33% unwilling to curve it or anything. worst experienxe of my life, he is rude and doesnt care. please dont take his classes.
Awful teacher but didn't have a choice. Don't expect anything from him. His tests averages are extremely low and he could care less. He doesn't care if he fails the majority of the class. He thinks he is fair and knows everything but makes mistakes everyday. Tests are impossible and too long to finish in the time give. Curve in the class is a joke.
He was hard to understand. He has a heavy accent and speaks quietly. He marks points off for silly things. Other instructors have commented on the fact that he writes hard tests and is a tough grader. He didn?t seem to know what resources were available to students, such as practice exams online. He said that they were not supposed to be there.
He couldn't even say the word statistic. When he says to Squire something, it means square. I'm retaking. I read these comments before taking the class. I thought how bad could it be? Well I'm taking it again this semester with Hamilton. I wasted a lot of time, tears and money because of Khattree.
You will regret taking a math class with this man. Boring lectures that don't help, misguided topics to study on, and does not care about students. My class had a 33% average on a test and he didn't care no curve or anything. Just don't take a math class with him. btw the final is 50% of the class
He is the worse teacher i have ever had at Oakland. He is no help at all with the material grades very hard and test are impossible. Never take this professor.
Absolutely awful. Lectures are completely unclear and riddled with his mistakes. Tests are short, with single questions worth 20+ points each, but tests on material he SPECIFICALLY told the class would NOT be on the test. First class I've EVER failed in my life, and math is my major. Don't waste your time, honestly.
Dont ever take this guy.......... He is the worst!!!!
Not the best! My class had a 52 percent average! also I went to check my grade and he asked me to name what I got on each test and such and then added it up instead of pulling out a book or something that had my grade right there. In class he read a students hw and put answer on board and wrote check next to it and he hoped it was correct.
The absolute worst. He makes mistakes constantly and gets indignant when he is corrected. Tests were awful
OU math is hard, yeah, but these are more about the prof, right? Last to arrive to class and first out the door. Makes you feel like a moron for asking a question. He should be made aware that shouting does not make up for an incomprehensible accent. No online forum for discussion, hw, lecture notes, study guides. He did not sign into moodle once.
Professor Khattree, God Bless him, is an awful teacher! Just awful man. I had him for stats226. The class is incredibly hard and annoyingly tedious. Material is not that hard but Khattree complicates it so much. Only pre-req for class was Calc, yet he used calc2 and 3 formualae and concepts. I would avoid him at all costs!
Makes it impossible to get anywhere in the A or B range.
Do not take this professor. Gives no credit even if you have the right answer. Does not give out solutions to hw, does not go over problems in class either. Very very unhelpful and always makes the students feel stupid. Class averages was 40% on all exams. For an intro stats class obviously something is wrong. Avoid at all costs!!
This class will ruin your GPA and any faith you have in your academic abilities. Prof. Khattree grades impossibly hard, and doesn't help at all with homework. Homework is collected every week and graded on accuracy. DON'T use any online sources or solutions manuals for homework assignments. It's considered cheating even if you don't copy directly.
Avoid at all costs
Prof. Khattree isn't as bad as everyone says he is. His accent is understandable, although he does mumble at times. People dislike him because of his harsh grading but it is very possible to pass this class as there is a HUGE curve at the end.
Omg I have never hated a class this much...he messes up and contradicts homself. Hes hard to understand and his tests dont match aanything he shows on class. He does a review day before the test and its no help at all.
really boring class, prof. makes lots of mistakes. its easyer to learn the stuff using the book
BY FAR THE WORST COURSE I'VE EVER TAKEN. His tests are completely different from the material he has you study, he mumbles, and writes so fast that you cannot even fathom what he is trying to teach you. I studied 25+ hours on a test and received a 41.. I have never disliked a class so much. DO NOT TAKE HIM. anyone is better.
Having taken math at OU before I can tell you that it's a hard department. Ravi has thus far been my best math professor. People say he's "awful" due to their lack of effort in the class (only 15 people show up out of a 50 people lecture). While there are things he could do better ultimately YOU have to put the work in to really learn.
Super hard to understand him. He only teaches by example doesn't explain what he's doing or why. Homework is easy. Exams are hard. It is Calc so its hard. But he doesn't help you grade wise. GPA Killer!!
Very nice and brilliant man, but not very good at teaching not Phd students. He has difficulty explaining concepts. if you need concepts explained then i would not take him. if you know what you are doing he isnt so bad
This professor and class is just horrible. He's very hard to understand, is rude when you ask questions, offer no help for homework and will report you for using an online resource for academic dishonesty even though he does not respond to emails regarding help with homework. Tests averages were below 40%. Just take STA 226 somewhere else.
He understands what he is talking about but it isn't always easy to understand him or the way he explains things. There is a massive curve at the end of the class, I got a better grade than anticipated. Make sure you sit in the front, do the homework(graded for accuracy), and get above average score on the exams. If you do this, you should be fine.
Math students live and die by partial credit. Unfortunately he gives almost no partial credit on tests. This makes it extremely difficult to get a decent grade if you make a small mistake. Overall hes not horrible. I'm just pissed that there is no transfer equivalent and he seems to be the only on teaching this class at OU.
Let me start by saying I was absolutely shocked when I found out I got a B in this class. He is difficult to follow, and his lectures are an hour of torture. He didn't take attendance, but you are taking a gamble on whether he would assign a homework assignment or not. The exams?-Good Luck. I would avoid if possible, but he was the only option.
Gave class a choice, do all the problems in the book and get a C+ or take your chances with his exams. Everyone took the C+. He is a completely useless professor. He gets to stay because he has good "lineage" in the stats world. Someone has to be at the bottom of his lineage. Would be nice if next lowest was within a mile. I would give him an F---.
He can be a bit hard to understand sometimes, but he usually writes down everything that is important that he says. He starts each lecture by asking for any questions from last lecture. Yes, there is a lot of homework, but it is not collected and the quiz every Friday is exact questions from the homework so its not totally worthless.
Gives 5 projects no tests. Averages of projects were in 50s and 60s. Very little correlation between projects and material. Hw must be done using a computer language (SAS) he did not teach. You go in for help (assuming he shows up for his office hours)and he just tells you to read the notes/book and search the internet.
His final was impossible! He s very smart and I respect him, but expect to work a lot harder than if you were in another class. HW once a week based on correctness, gives 2 exams, attendance was graded, and doesn't teach you how to use the calculator. His class is not impossible as long as you're willing to put forth the effort.
He does not teach you how to use the graphing calculator nor the applets in the textbook. The total points of the course are extremely low, so if you fail one test you're basically forfeiting any chances of doing well. I highly recommend you do not take this Professor.
This class wasn't that hard. A lot of the material is common sense, but people complained about him all the time because they didn't show up and blamed him for them not understanding it. Jut show up, listen, and review outside of class. Attendance is mandatory, homework due every friday an theres 2 midterms and a final.
Knowledgable, explains material good Heavy accent skips certain things in book but its fair game on exam Harsh grader, no partial points, no practice exam Grade based on 2 exams (20 each), final (40) and hw and attendance (20) does not give points back easily.
I felt really good about this course, I went to all the classes (attendance is a grade) got good grades on all my stuff and felt good about the final, but I ended up with a 2.5?? It's not a hard subject but his tests seem to always cover material you HAVE NEVER BEEN TAUGHT. Then he blames you for not knowing. It wasn't even in the book!
His exams are tough, which isn't great when they account for so much of your grade. Something's wrong when you do fine on the homework and then the majority of people do poorly on the exams. It's very frustrating, and I wouldn't recommend taking him unless he changes how he runs the course.
Awful is an understatement for this professor. Why he's teaching at OU is beyond me and the entire class.
I read these reviews before I took the class and thought people were just being too hard on him. I was wrong. DO NOT take this professor. He is a soft speaker with a strong accent and his handwriting is basically cursive. Homework is due every Friday and takes 10 hours+ to complete. Tests are 90% of the grade and are nothing like the HW or lectures
Professor Khattree knows a lot about stats. He has a somewhat heavy accent, but you learn to understand it quickly. He speaks softly, and his notes are very hard to follow, although he does stick with the book so thats always helpful to have. Homework due every Friday; it doesnt take that long (took me only 3 hours total a week).
I'm upset because they made me rate this professor at least a 1 out of 5. There was no option for a 0 out of 5. Tests count for 90% of the class and the two test averages were 50% and 30%. Lectures are pointless due to his heavy accent and terrible handwriting. Take this class if you enjoy anxiety
If I could give a 0, I would. This was one of the worst prof. I have every had. Intro class, yea right. Grades so hard, marks down for everything with HW and test. Will not give any points back. Sloppy lec notes, makes mistakes, and hard to understand. Knows material by memory, but doesn't know how to teach students. I strongly advise to avoid.
Dr. Khattree was not very helpful when it came to explaining difficult concepts in class. I could barely read his small, cursive like handwriting. He was often clearly unprepared, coming up with examples on the spot. Attendance is required, homework is assigned so you are stuck in class 3 hours a week, listening to an ineffective lecture. Beware!!
Here's the deal with Ravi. You aren't going to learn anything from him but the class itself isn't too challenging. You need to be extremely thorough when writing test answers because not explaining your work perfectly will cost you a large amount of points. Good luck getting the test in on time too, he likes to make his tests longer than possible.
He's a bit hard to understand and his handwriting is unintelligible. There's weekly homework but it isn't too much, nor that difficult. Tests however are worth 80% of the grade and he gives absolutely no partial credit. Takes points off for the most ridiculous things. Have never had a prof grade this harshly and unreasonably. Do not take him.
Awful Professor. Incredibly unfair grader. I would regard myself as a good student and could barely manage a C. The first test class average was 41% with a high of 76% just to give you an idea. We had very little time to complete the exam, and when students confronted him on it, he wouldn't admit there was an issue. I wish you luck if you take him.
Don't take this class! He asks too much compared to what he offers. He won't help the class even if everyone is complaining about the time he offers for tests, the large number of problems on the test. He should listen to the students more!! In the end, we should learn something, he doesn't do what a good professor should!!!
I see a lot of negative posts for this prof. He is a VERY strict grader who is mediocre when explaining topics. Be prepared to be short on time when taking exams. However, he provides MASSIVE curves. My grade at the end of the course went from a C to an A. You NEED to study hard, READ THE BOOK, and do practice problems to get an (achievable) A+.
I signed up for the course without reading all these reviews. Wished I had. The first test had 20 questions. The problem wasn't that the questions were hard, they were just so... much. There's 100% a time issue for tests. And yes, he has a bad accent/handwriting. If you're a quick thinker, you have a slim chance, otherwise bail out.
Prof. Khattree was the worst professor I've ever had by far, and I've had my fair share of them - While he has a huge curve at the end, test averages were around 40 and he would make it the students' faults by saying, "You guys really need to do more practice." Do yourself a favor and sign up for anyone but him.
This has been my worst professor so far. He has the sloppiest handwriting, makes many mistakes during lecture, and never follows his powerpoints. His exams are not necessarily hard because the material is not that bad but he does not like the way the book does it, yet he requires you to read the book he will mark you down exams if you follow it.
Going to be honest I have never wanted to give a review for a professor more in my 7 years of school than right now. Ravi was the most one of the worst professors ever. He spends the entire lecture cramming in as much as he can, does not write or speak legibly, explains everything as being "obviously easy". Grades VERY hard and explains nothing.
Being unbiased, this is the WORST professor I had ever had and Im a senior. He teaches horribly and and is very rude when you ask a question. Literally, you have to spend HOURS daily to pass. Only 3 exams and are 80% of grade. Averages are 50% and half the class fails at the end. He has a very thick accent and makes it hard to understand him.
Absolutely an awful professor. Please, for your own mental health, do not take him.
Prof. Khattree is very knowledgeable. He actually explains the what, why and hows of the concepts which for me was the plus. It is definitely not an easy class, requires a lot of hard work (I spent 20 hrs per week) and determination. It was manageable because the class was online and had 5 take home assignments (7-10 days) and no exams.
There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said. Be prepared to spend 20+ hours on a single homework. Be prepared to average 50's and 60's on homeworks. He does curve at the end which is the only reason that people actually pass. If you can avoid him, please do. If you cant, good luck. You'll need it.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! He is completely unfair in his grading up until the last second where he curves the hell out of the class which is ok but don't expect anything better than a C from this guy. He gives you about a third of the time you need to complete his long exams. Half my class ended up failing even with a massive curve. Just steer clear!!
He does not prepare students for his exams as he should. Your set up for failure. He does not round up. Brought my gpa down.
Let me preface this by saying I have a degree in math that I earned with a 3.9 GPA. He is by far the worst professor I've ever had. He has a very thick accent and very sloppy handwriting so he was basically useless. I was forced to teach myself because I couldn't understand what he said and I couldn't read what he wrote.
This was my 4th stats class and I already have a degree in math with a 3.9. I knew the semester was going to be rough when I got a 59 on the first exam despite all of the right answers because I didn't show my work exactly the way he did and the semester went downhill from there. Instead of providing feedback, he usually just wrote "why" or "how."
I took STA 2226 8 wk. summer course with him and it was very intense. He goes too fast on the lectures and is not very good at explaining things. I looked at the rating before and thought it would still be okay to take him, but I regret it so much. If you are not willing to dedicate SO much time to one class over the summer, do NOT take him.
This was by far the WORST Professor I've ever had. I have a 3.7 and am an Actuarial Science student with a couple semesters left at OU. He is the most arrogant Professor I've ever had. He's rude, doesn't answer emails, and only things that count towards your final grade are the exams. He's a useless prof. Use YouTube to pass.
Easily the worst professor i have ever had. Impossible to understand him during lectures and his handwriting on the notes is atrocious, so no luck there either. He is a super tough grader yet doesn't actually explain why you got a specific problem wrong and will instead just write "Why?" or "How?" or nothing at all.
Ravi will write "Why?, "How?", "No!", etc. on his tests, which is extremely discouraging. If you don't write every single step down, you aren't getting the credit, EVEN IF YOUR ANSWER IS CORRECT. If you plan on learning statistics in an environment where you can feel free to ask questions and talk to the professor, DO NOT take STA2226 with Ravi.
He does not teach you the necessary things to complete the homework and you will be looking up things online and in the book. Want to ask him for help? Too bad! He will tell you to go "look in the notes" or "read the book", assuming you haven't already done that 50 times. You will be graded as a graduate student, even if you are not one. Good luck
Nice and caring guy, not a great professor. He grades very strictly and will dock points for steps you can do in your head. The textbook isn't very helpful either and the homework will take you a while to do, it is also graded pretty harshly. Just expect to do a lot of learning outside of class with other sources to understand the material better.
This is probably one of the worst classes I have taken. The class was not that hard, but the teacher did not provide a grading scale or a study guide for the exams, and he is a very harsh grader. It is very hard to get ponts in this class if it is not from homework, attendance, or exams. The class itself is not bad. It was his teaching that was bad
Ravi is a tough grader, but using Unstuck ai and the textbook can help you prepare. The class is challenging, but staying engaged and attending lectures are key to doing well.
I regret not checking this professors reviews before taking his class. The class avg on all the exams we have taken so far has been bellow 45%. When the majority of your class is failing it is NOT a student problem it IS a professor problem. He refuses to post in the class lecture notes, and blasts through the material so gl taking in class notes.
He posted NO notes and gave NO guides
This is not an exaggeration: avoid at all costs. Average on the tests were 45 and 47. He said three people actually finished the second test in time. Only test preparation is based on the textbook, but test questions don't reflect the questions covered. Will try to trip you up. Grades super harshly. Expect little to no partial credit.
