CLASS STARTED OUT HORRIBLE BECAUSE HE WAS RUDE BUT THEN AS THE CLASS SIZE DECREASED HE BECAME MORE HELPFUL AND HE MADE THE MATERIAL MORE EASY TO UNDERSTAND.
He is a nice guy but his teaching is not all that clear. As our class size deteriorated he became more helpful and nicer. What is that about? he sometimes gets mad if u dont know a answer but hell is math 97, its evident we dont know it!
By far, the worst teacher at GPC. If you ask a question, he says he doesn't have time to answer it. If you don't answer his questions, he will pack up and go home for the day. The material on the tests is NEVER covered in his lecture. Don't take him.
can't teach to anybody. make us do problems that never on test. won't help if you go to office and ask it. he lies a lot. his grades aren't right.
An excellent professor overall. Tries hard to get students to understand the material. You will benefit from him greatly if you are generally a good student, but if not, dont take his class, its not an easy grade. Tests are difficult.

He is always mean. Not helpful. Criticizes students for speaking incorrectly. Must be very unhappy at home because I never saw him in a good mood. Not very clear in what he wants you to know.If he goes off on a tangent, too bad for the class,he don't care

He is a horrible teacher. Nothing that he ever reviewed was ever on the tests. Very hard grader and he never taught. He wouldnt even answer questions he would skip over them. I would not recommend him to anyone. Horrible experience in that class.
Teacher cannot get through more than one example in two sections of class does not explain anything at all. Do not ever take him. He should be fired. Too much religous references in a math class.
Does anyone Admin from GPC read this site, if so why is this man still teaching, all you need to do, if you don't believe the posts, is go sit in his class. He is awful and should never be allowed to infect the students with his stupidity again. Please fire him.
Great teacher if you are willing to listen and learn. He is very helpful if you ask for help. His test (like everybody elses) are hard if you did not study. Do the homework, helps a lot plus gives you points on the test for it. AND dissing the teacher for your lazyness... soo not cool.
Mr. Collings is a very funny man. He had me laughing at every one of his classes except on the day of a test. Like any other class, Study and you will do fine. Only the students who don't study tend to hate him. He says AMEN alot.
He treated students like animal. yell, abuse, and damage your future. You, and your friends do not into his classroom.
I took him my first semester at gpc. It was the toughest class to date and I've been at gpc for 2 and 1/2 years, with many tough subjects. I don't recommend him if you are not very good in mathematics.

He is nice and personable, and even funny at times, but he explained everything except what was on the test, and when I asked a question he treated me like I was stupid. I studied continuously and did all the homework. Nothing in the homework seemed to be on his test. If I wanted to be preached to I would go to church...hallaluja!!!
If you are too good in math then take him, otherwise don't try him. He is hard to understand.

I took this class with him a while back and I dropped it within the first week. The people that stayed in there (even some that were good at math) were struggling by the end of the semester. That guy sucked.
Very difficult. Forces you to really spend alot of time studying, pays off if you do all the homework. Quizzes and tests fairly easy if you study hard or if you are just good at algebra.
My GOODNESS!! This professor SUCK!!! He never never never never teaches anything about the subject. Well,maybe a little, but that still doesn't help. If you want to learn the subject on your own take this professot, but STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!!

its the biggest mistake to take his class
He thinks you know the material, and doesn't teach, but reviews.
I have been out of school for over 07 years and he expects his students to know things you will see in Math 1111 and higher. Worse, he grades you on it, whether you grasp the concept or not. (3) out of about (20) students in my class passed this course.

He is the worst teacher ever. Do not take him or trust me you will be sorry for yourself. nO MATTER how much you know math, it is never good enough for him, and you will have to work extra extra extra hard and end up with a C... if not failing it.
I agree with everyone else. He expected way to much, got very irritated if you couldnt answer a question on the spot. I spent so many hours outside of class doing HW, but doesnt seem enough. Dont take him for math classes

This is the worst teacher that I have ever had in my life. I'm sure he knows what he is talking about but that doesn't necessarily mean he knows how to teach it. I found myself having to be tutored and trying to find my own reference materials to help me out because he was not any help at all. Why am I even paying tuition? I ended up withdrawing...

Don't take his class if you want to have good grades. Terrible man. He teaches nothing and very unfair. I do all the homework and get 8/9, he kicked me out when I tried to ask how to get a 9. "I made a quick judgement" that's his answer! A lot of homework and test on thing you DON'T know. I never thought math's so terrible 'till I see this guy.

If u are a calculator freak then this is the class for you. This guy doesn't need to be teaching at GPC he dos everything by calculator and he doesn't explain assignments clearly and I need a teacher who can teach well and be more into the book as well as into the students in helping u pass.

Although I passed his class he was not a very good teacher I was failing the whole way through he is very confusing and doesn't know how to teach DONT TAKE THIS CLASS
It surprised me the most that this guy has managed to survive in the 21st century having such a bad attitude for his own students. Seeing students being frustrated about the course is the source of his “pride”. He has a lot to learn about the purpose of education and educating.
I don't know what's up with these bad comments. If you are really interested in the class he will help you a lot. He gives lots and lots of extra credit. Take him if you like math.
I graduated from highschool with honors, I graduated from UGA recently with honors. I just got a 26 on a test with 20 points extra credit. That's right, I got an fn 6.
He gets very irritated if everyone doesn't "get it". If you ask him 1 question, he asks you 10-basically he tries to get you to answer your own question, which is ridiculous. I would only recommend him if this is the only class you will be taking, because the homework will take up ALL of your time outside of class.
Anyone who does not like Prof. Collings is either a misologist or lazy. Yes, this class requires work, sometimes a lot, but if you do the work, you will learn the subject intimately, and succeed in the class. He gives a lot of extra credit, more than 150 points out of 600 total for the course. I got a 92 in the course. Suck it up and do some work!
with all math classes it requires work and plenty of homework if you are not going to school to learn then just stay home and be ignorant
SPARE YOURSELF & YOUR GPA! Dont take unless ur AWESOME @ math & req NO assistance. You'll have to TEACH YOURSELF! Dont ask questions that makes him angry & fire 10 questions to u. He only went over 1 problem each class & never really taught. Rude & asks for respect but gives NONE.
do your homework! he does not use math lab so homework is check when quizes are administered. If you have a problem he is more than happy to help you.
He teaches 1 or 2 problems at the most and these are the same examples found in the book. He will show a step for 5 minutes and TALK FOR 20 minutes. Then somehow he talks about his family and digress from the topic a lot. The examples in the book are easy but how CAN HE EXPECT YOU TO DO THE HARDER PROBLEMS if he doesn't show.
Although I did not like Calc., I went into the class with an open mind but Collings shut it closed!! He is offensive and does not know how to teach at all! He spends 2 hours of the class time talking about absolutely nothing..and 15 min attempting to show how to do a prob. He should be fired for being incompetent. Halleulija .Amen He's ridiculous
Completely useless as a teacher! He "teaches" as if you already know it all. There are not nearly enough example problems (1,2 in a 75 min. class) but loads of homework. He seems to dislike questions from students and is just no help at all, in the classrm or out. He's awful. I withdrew to protect my GPA. Save your time & money. Choose other prof.
He is very knowledgable but does a horrible job teaching. He treats students like high school kids, spends too much time chattering about "life's lessons" so as a result that limits the amount of math. Do all HW and Projects. xtra credit 4 attendace.On quizzes/exams he gives partial credit if he sees that you are trying to solve the problem even if the answr is wrong. He spends most time going over HW problems and lectures very little. He expects you to have an algebra foundation. Math is not my strongest, but I got a grade higher than I expected
This teacher knows a lot about math. However, he does a really poor job teaching it to you. He expects you to know how to do the work already. God forbid you ask him a question. You wont feel comfortable enough to ask him anything again. He also gives tons of homework. I think he is ready to retire and is tired of teaching. Please relieve him.
C'mon people. What is teaching? It is a process instilling knowledge. This prof does exactly that. He help you if u r willin to learn. Just do ur homeworks, ask him what u don't understand, and u gonna be just fine.
I thought that professor collings was one of if not the best instructor I have had for math since I have been at GPC. He goes over the chapters exactly but puts it into an understandable format. He had me excited to go to class every day eager to learn more. thanks prof collings.

Wow, I had to drop him. I'm not sure if the time to teach wasn't enough (class was 1hr15) or what it was but it breezed through sections and moved forward without everyone truly understanding. The web assign was a total nightmare. If I had had better online support I may have stayed in his class.

Prof. Collins was very fair. He explained the problems clearly & the hw. He gave extra credit. Attendance is mandatory, this is math people, how r u not gonna be there for a class u paid for? I like him he is a non nonsense prof, i like how he has command of the class. so if ur not serious then it's ur ass. if u don't get it ask questions.
This has been the second day and i highly doubt about his teaching ability (also his math knowledge). I regret taking the class now, i should have known this place at first...
Worst teacher ever, always going off topic, rarely use textbook, write down dump questions (usually 2 or 3 for a whole 2.5 class hours) without throughly explaining, even can't solve advanced problems in the book! I'm so regretting..

He is extremely off topic the whole semester. he will lecture philosophy intead of math. he only give 1 example for the whole section and bammm have fun with the test. He does give students many chances to do their test that they fail.
I never came up here before to rate a professor but felt obligated to.He gets lost in his own lesson plans. TEST ARE EXTREMEY HARD, there is nothing that you can do to prepare for them either. Studyin HW and Text will not help because he makes up his "OWN" test. Makes false promises on make up test to help u pass but are harder than the original
A very good teacher. the problem with most students they always want somebody to hand them something. you need to get off your lazy behind and work for it. he is a good teacher that i would take him for all of my math classes
This professor is absolutely horrible! He spends 20-30 min on 1 problem! So we only go over about 2 problems each class! He lecture more about life than math! His test are extremely hard! The re-test are harder than than the original! Nothing will prepare you for the test! He gets upset when you ask him a question.

In this class prepare to teach yourself. You will look at less than a paragraph of notes at home and realize you are completely unprepared to attempt the homework. Luckily there are a lot of helpful videos, but I could have saved 200$ and taken the course online and be learning just as much. It is the worst learning experience I have ever had.
Not a good professor. If you have the book with the c.d. you will learn more from that than him. He is HORRIBLE. What professional professor would even consider wearing flip flops and shorts to work? If you get him, good luck. If you get the opportunity run in the other direction.

Professor Ry is a sweet individual bu I would not recommend for Pre-Calculus if you are not familiar with the course already. I came to class everyday and did all the homework but still could not manage to pass his test (but 1 with a 70 somthin). His teaching style is a little old fashion because he is a older man.
Terrible teacher, don't explain things clearly, not easily accessible, don't use i-collage. I got a D in his class, which lowered my GPA, I re-took it with another teacher who was great and got an A+. He is not worth your time. Worst teacher I've even taken.
