Extremely boring. Fell asleep much of the time. Failed first 2 tests. Dropped him like a hot plate. DONT TAKE HIM!
Tries to cram way too much info on one test. Makes things too complicated and I say this after taking another Chem teacher. Doesn't realize that not everyone understands chem like he does:(
Hes bad dont take him if ur basics are weak in chem.ask him any info generally and he's like"i told u earlier" whatever grades i made is cuz of my past knowledge. He's rude, sarcastic.if u dont understand any subject matter, asking him doubts usually doesnt help cuz he explains in exactly the same way
I had a real hard time in this class...it may not be the professor but I just had a hard time understanding the concept.
Chemistry is tough. He makes is it as easy as possible. Makes hard concepts very clear. Disciplinarian.

Gives good examples and is very helpful for those who want to learn. Chemistry is a tough course and I couldn't have made it without his help.
Very helpful to students both in and out of class. I couldn't have made it without his help. Notes are on the internet which helps a lot. Good teacher.
yeah chemistry is hard but u just gotta study...teaching skills is pretty good and is very helpful...he is the best chem 2 teacher at san jac south and u can ask anyone about it and they will agree
I think Crawford has dumbed down the material a bit. Not as interesting as it could be.
he was a cool teacher but the material was hard to learn
Prof Crawford is an excellent instructor. I had never had a Chem course in my life. I worked me arse off and got an A! His lectures are excellent. I tried to take Chem I with Gustavo Cei--horrible mistake. I was so glad to have found Prof Crawford. The SI tutor, Aaron, was also excellent!!
very understanding teacher. Study your notes. He does not ask trick questions.
thanks to the si aaron i passed this class. it is hard but you just have to study and he does has some tricky questions on the test so make sure you know your information..overall he is a little bit better than other chem teachers at san jac south

He is a really good teacher. Seriously if you pay any attention to your homework you can make an A+ in his class. I never did my homework, only went by his lectures and I got a B in his class. Also, he takes the time after or before class to explain anything you need to know about chem...even if you are not in that chapter yet :)
That was one hard class. After InorganicII InorganicI seemed like a breeze. I am so grateful for this instructor. His door was always open and he will help you anyway he can. Some people say he is gruff. Nonsense. He is professional. I got into a program that takes only 6 students a year. Getting an A in Chem was a big part of that.
I enjoyed prof Crawford. His class was very hard, but if you study hard enough it is not impossible to pass! He never showed any favoritism towards males or females.
good prof, good recomendation
I took this class before & had 2 drop it like a hot potato but did really well in his class I wish I'd taken him in the beginging of my chem adventure I wouldn't have gone through what I'm going through now He goes by his notes & gives reviews & EP for each chp his exams r fearly easy but the final is kinda hard lab is very easy & u get 2 drop 1
Took him for 2nd semester chem. He did not cover all of the material for the course. Got to the end of the semester and he had to skim over several important topics. At times could be stern and grumpy. Was very helpful, however. Thought he could have been a little more thorough in teaching concepts and not just formulas.
great teacher that is very helpful. his notes are very clear that he makes copies for the whole class. the best chem 2 teacher there and i took chem2 a couple of times so i know
I advise Mr. crawford for all, if u didnt have the chance to do well in the begining of the semester u have a big chance to do very well.
great
A very good teacher, i learned a lot for the course.
On day one of class he said I was going to pass with flying colors. Well..I did. He was great, and I will see him in 1412.
He was excellant. I made an A because of him! I don't think I could have done it without his help, support, and excellant teaching ability!
Good teacher. The classwork was easy, but the labs were a bit difficult at times. The tests were not difficult at all. He was always there when needed for help, or he would respond by email in a timely matter. I passed with an A+ average.
Good teacher. More than generous on his points. Always willing and able to offer assistance to his students. His Suppl. Instructor, Aaron, helps give you the edge. I got an A in Chem. for the first time!
He takes his job very serious and obviously loves what he does. He is extremely helpful. His first impression may be rudeness however he is a wonderful instructor and I would recomend him to everyone. He very clear and thorough.
Very thorough and truly wants everyone to do well.
Very good teacher, tried to make sure everyone understood the material, grading system seemed fair and resonable.
mr crawford is wonderful instructor and one of the best in the school.
He is a very good teacher who has clear notes that follow the test.
one time he lost the entire classes tests. no aplogy whatsoever, he made us all retake them.
the tests are not hard, but his class is BORING.
helpful but very rude sometimes.... dont ever come in late for his class...and if u do make sure u close the door very quitely or he'll stop the class and put u on the spot!
He is very rude and unapproachable. He is anal and short-tempered. His notes seem to jump around, but they go hand in hand with the tests. I would not recommend this teacher.
I didnt do to well and he's kind of intimidating. The best part of the class was the labs and that's it. I didn't understand him. I would not recommend
Don't do it...that's all I can say
If anyone try to take his class, all I can tell you is have fun with his lectures. The guy knows chem well but somehow can't relate the material in a better way for you to undestand. He always make his lectures harder than it is. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. I study all the time and ended up with a "C" average. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He suck !!!
he seems intimidating at first but hes actually really nice and will help if u ask him. the labs are easy and he doesnt make u do pointless prelab writeups. chemistry is hard, but he gives plenty of examples, his practice tests are similar to the exams, and he has lots of practice problems for u to practice. im taking him for chem2
Dumbs the class & labs down for idiots...Not for people who are not interested in science & chem.
Tests dont well reflect the materiel covered. Held 2 major tests 1 week apart. No warning. Teaches the most complex & useless methods for solving problems. Wont tell you which labs you will be doing in advance. This gives you no time to study the procedure or form necessary questions to ask. Hes useless when youre in lab. Avoid if possible.
He seems rude, but he really only cares about 2 things, slamming the door when you walk into class, and one other I can't remember. Not a very difficult chemistry course, just study if you need to study. If you work as hard as you individually need (whether that is 8 hours for a test, or nothing) then you should be fine. Tests are not "tricky".
Mr. Crawford has a good knowledge of the subject, although when you ask questions, he looks at you funny, as though you should already know the answer. Arguing for half credit on missed problems on his tests is tough. Fair, but bordering on arrogant.
Mr. Crawford gets a bad rap. He is a great teacher if you are a serious student and not just trying to get by. If you don't show effort, he will not help you. This class is challenging so if you don't plan on attending class regularly, do not take his class. You WILL NOT do well. Book doesn't cover everythin and his online notes are very vague.
chem is hard so u cant take this teacher and assume he's an easy A. u definately have to study but he gives partial credit on all exams, except for the final, which he curves. the good part is, u can drop 1lab and test...plus the lab counts as much as the tests so if u get 100 in lab, itll definately raise your average :)
I'm not a chem person, so it was a must that I studied a little bit. I got more help from the S.I. sessions than I did from the prof, but gotta admit, the test are pretty easy if you study the online practice test. DO NOT SLACK OFF AROUND TEST 2 & 3!!!! The final is comprehensive. (i hated that!)
He's the best chem prof in south campus. Trust me ! Prof Crawford explains pretty well and give lots of partial credit. Partial credit after each exams help to raise our score. Make sure to attend the class after exam. Use text book if you don't understand. Tania, the SI leader .. she's very helpfull. She teaches better than any chem profs.
He is hard, but the best chem teacher I had at south. If you don't pay attention he will not go over something a 2nd time, but if he thinks your trying he will help you. Make sure you go to the test reviews and the SIs they help a lot. Also show all your work on the test, you can get some credit even if you got the wrong answer on the test.
"A" in 1411, and a "C" in 1412, go figure. Watch out for his tests, the wording is NOT straight forward and the questions are very often too vague to be understood clearly. Also, too many typo's on the tests. He also introduced organic and redox equations in one week, the week before the final 2 tests! I would not recommend this professor.
all i can say that if it wasnt for my great SI leader i wouldnt of made my grade. i learned through her not mr. crawford. he rambles off topic and sometimes he can't explain things and when you do ask questions he doesnt answer them, he ignores them.
This was my second time to take the second half of chemistry and I wish I had him the first time. Without his help I wouldn't have made it. Good lectures and good notes.

Hard, but if you actually care about class, you CAN get the grade you wan't. It pays to act professional around him. And DON'T SLAM ANY DOORS WHILE IN HIS CLASS.
I was already accepted to nursing school but I had to pass chemistry. Thanks to Mr. Crawford I was able to get through the course and I was scared because my chemistry background was very shakey. He helped me everytime I asked for help.

He's allrite as a teacher. I won't really recommend him, especially if u don't have a strong chem base. He's intimidating and clearly has favorites in class. Don't be afraid to ask questions, but don't be too surprised if he mocks you. Tests are a lot more confusing than the practice tests. I suggest reading the textbooks. and lots of caffeine.
Just finished a summer course - great teacher. Good notes, good lecture.
I got help when I needed it. Lecture notes are on line and that helped. I was hoping for a harder course since I'm majoring in chemistry.
Good school, good class, good teacher.
STUDY FOR THIS CLASS! Memorize formulas & try to do supp. Ques. He seems intimidating but if he sees an effort he does notice & is more approachable to ask questions. Write down all instructions for lab-he gets irritated if he has to repeat himself. He really doesn’t want you to fail. Don’t let the door slam or talk during lecture, he gets mad!
CHEM 1411 & 1412 STUDY FOR THIS CLASS! Memorize formulas & try to do supp. Ques. Seems intimidating but if he sees an effort he does notice & is more approachable to ask questions. Doesn't give practice tests. He really doesn’t want you to fail. Can be easy to pass, gives partial credit. Don’t let the door slam or talk during lecture, gets mad!
Great prof
Just study. He helped me when asked.
VERY GOOD PROFESSOR. PLS DONT CRAM B4 TESTS. IF YOU'RE LOST IN CLASS ASK HIM. HE IS WILLING TO HELP. HE IS THE TEACHER TO TAKE B/C HIS REVIEWS PREPARE YOU FOR THE EXAM. HIS SI INSTRUCTOR WAS VERY HELPFUL IF YOU CAN ATTEND. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. TAKE CRAWFORD THAN ANY OTHER TEACHER AT SOUTH CAMPUS
very good teacher. but READ HIS NOTES OFF OF BLACKBOARD. dont use book to much, for those who dont like to read. STUDY NOTES(ALL)BEFORE TEST it will help. he is VERY helpful and willing to help.
The course helped me get into nursing school so I would rate it high.
The course helped me get into nursing school so I would rate the course and teacher rather high.
Great prof just go to lecture listen study and you will pass no problem. He gives practice test will even take the time to help you study. He really wants everyone to pass and is willing to help if you put forth the effort.
He has his office hours posted up, but he never comes at that time. One of his office hours said 7:30, he came at 8:25, he didnt have time to help me because he had to go to class in 5 minutes. If it was one time, I would understand, but its everytime. He is always late. His lectures are kind of hard to understand, but I go to SI so that helps ALOT
Crawford is the best prof at South for CHEM 1411/1412. He provides practice problems, reviews, etc. and is very clear as to the requirements of the class. Chemistry is hard in general, but Crawford tries to make it manageable. If you're taking Chemistry, choose this prof!
This class was a waste of my time. He would work out problems that were not always accurate , give test over what he did not talk about , and give a final that is extremely difficult. The class average on the final was an F..would not suggest it for 1412..he is better at just teaching 1411.
Took in 09'. AWESOME! Do need to go to lab..but no attendance for Lecture! Gives SOOOO much extra credit!
Swell guy, despite the drill sargeant persona. If you don't have the time to study the stuff after class, you know, because you're tired after an 8-5 workday as well, it gets that much tougher to get through. Wish I could have quit my job, but I got canned right before finals...much more study time then! Satisfied overall.
Good teacher to take from if you learn better from lectures and notes. If you are better reading the book, and like myself its difficult to learn from lectures, then it will be hard.He doesnt really go along with the bookYou could actually do very well without a book with him if thats your affinity.Hope this helps you decide!Excellent SI however!<-USE
The teacher puts notes onto the"blackboard"for you to learn from. When you go to class, you have to bring these notes to write down examples from lecture.I recommend spending at least 15 minutes going over new notes from blackboard before he teaches that section as it will help you flip to the correct page.Do this and you should do very well.
I just can say ,He is the BEST. He is very helpful.you can get extra credit if you work on problems.
Nice teacher, But you have to work really hard out of you own time.
Took this teacher last semester since I needed it for my major, I recommend printing out notes and bringing them to class, and do not miss a class since you will fall behind. He gives practice tests the day before the real test, and shows how to work the problem. Gives lots of extra credit, made a high B in the class
This class is easy but boring. I've liked chemistry before, but this guy makes it boring- no interaction!!! To make an A in the class just do the Practice test and the Supplimentary Problems. He does reviews before tests. His pre-labs are super boring. Test 2 & 4 are the harder than 1 & 3. In a nutshell, its easy to pass the class but boring.
I heard that he was okay for 1411 but I only had him 1412. He was awful! He knows his material so well but he teaches it horribly. The material he teaches differs from the way it is asked on his tests which makes his tests ridiculous! The final on top of that looks nothing like his tests which look barely similar to his examples. In one word: UGH!
Nice enough, but really doesn't do as much as he could for his students. His office hours suck. He does give extra credit, though. SUPER boring in lecture, distant in lab. Be warned, exams are AT LEAST three times harder than the practice exams.
I failed chem 1411 once and took it again and then I took this class for 1412 and all i can say is that he is one awesome professor! I think Chemistry is a subject where you must put own effort in order to be successful. I think mostly everyone fails 1412 because its mostly math.
Raymond Crawford is the way to go!! I failed Chem in highschool and made an A+ in his class! I made B's on all the test and one low A. With all the extra credit Mr. Crawford offered I made a 98 on the final and a 96 for the class! Go to the SI session, Tania is great and really helps you understand Chem!
Mr. Crawford was an alright professor. I don't like Chemistry at all, and still don't. His tests were harder than the practice tests, but as long as you study, you shouldn't have any problems. I'm taking him for 1412 right now and it is alot harder than 1411, so take advantage of the easiness of 1411. Overall, he is a decent professor!
A LOT OF EASY EXTRA CREDIT! Pay attention in lecture, a little difficult, but go to SI because it helps ALOT. I HATE chem, but this wasn't too bad and he's a really nice guy. Made a 100 in class due to xtra cred. Take him. Not too easy, but if I can do it, anyone can.
He was a very helpful professor. He gives a LOT of extra credit and you can make well over a 100 on the final. It's an easy class as long as you review the notes and do the practice tests. Just pay attention in class and you'll be fine. For some reason we ended up only doing 6 labs, but they were enjoyable. I highly recommend him for chem.
It's a shame he retired, since he was a great professor. There was a TON of extra credit opportunities, so I was able to make well over 100 in his class. He could be unclear at times, but was willing to help others as long as they were trying. I do agree that we probably only did half of the labs we were supposed to, but that reduced the load a ton
He might be good in 1411 but 1412 need alot more paying attention to. He only did half the labs which was good, but his concepts are very difficult, The math portion is way easier. If you are taking him, know the concepts AND math well. If you just study one or the other you will not pass the exams. If worse comes to worse he will help you to pass.
