Ray is the bomb!! One of the best professors I have ever had. He is hilarious and is very experienced in his teachings. Very smart and well educated. I highly recommend. You will not be dissapointed.

Ray is THE MAN!! Hilarious lecture, he assigns some long papers but they are not difficult, and are actually fun to write. Great class, that's why it fills up every semester, so REGISTER EARLY!!

Ray is one of the teachers that has made my learning experience a good one. He is so intelligent, sarky, and hilarious. Teaches very clearly, and in a way that you will not want to miss his class. TAKE HIM!!!

He does curse a lot. However, he makes people laugh. His exams are easy and straightforward. I recommend not to piss him off or he will pick on you. He likes acting out things and tries to make it fun for people.

The class is very thought-provoking, I was never bored. Ray is funny and passionate about what he teaches, but sometimes has trouble controlling his temper. I think the class could also do just fine without his politics, but I still highly recommend him to anyone.

He's got a lot of good things to say if your willing to listen. He's entertaining, but you have to attend the class. If you pretty mush just do that you'll get an A.

Comic Spirit. Good professor. He won't yell at you if you go to class, read the assignments, do the howework, watch the movies and engage in class discussion. Unless you talk in class, or are disrespectful, or cheat, or are stupid.

Amazing professor in terms of wanting his students to attend his class. Hey, this is the only class that you have to watch dumber and dumber, pirates of the carribean and get graded on it! take it... quizzes and mid-terms are easy if you pay attention in class, very redunt material, and nice professor!

the teacher's a character: curses, anal about a lot of things, tells great stories. make it a point to watch movies/read at least some of the plays (or the cliffs notes or something). he covers most of it in class, so tests aren't so bad.

Every student enrolled should have to take this amazing man's class. Ray is the finest professor on campus and shouldn't be missed. His class is not hard provided your not functionally illiterate. Extremely passionate about the subject and will drag you into it as well. Just don't leave early!

The class that enhanced the value of comedy. Unique perspective. It's two years later and I still find daily value from Ray's teaching. Class was never boring. Highly recommended, highly valuable experience. Don't fall asleep.

Since taking Ray's class, I've never looked at a comedy the same way. Such a great teacher who is so passionate about teaching.

Takes shots of bourbon during class...only when someone falls asleep! Uses profanity and I love it! Very real guy! Says what's really on his mind and loves to share it with everybody!

Ray is animated, interesting, and fun to listen to. He really loves teaching and comic spirit. He taught me to respect others opinions/beliefs, to stop and think about what is most important in life, and to think about others. Incredibly passionate about what he is teaching. He loves his students and is always willing to help. His class is worth taking, the assignments are minimal and reading is basic. He makes you think about the decisions you make on a daily basis.

This is the best professor I have taken in this university. People may dislike that he curses so much in class. But, he is a very reasonable, down to earth, overall respectful human being. He lectures very well, and gives very reasonable exams. I recommend this professor to everyone who wants to learn.

Ray exemplifies what teaching should be. He is knowledgeable of the subject matter but open to different interpretations. No questions are wrong. He teaches with intensity and often resembles a stand up comedian. I can't say enough good things about him. There is nothing hard about his class. He simply requires that you show common human curtisy.

I had LaCoste as an instructor at GWC and CSULB. He made learning enjoyable. He is so knowledgeable about the material he teaches. I have by BA and MA and I'd take another class with him just for his knowledge and great sense of humor. What a great person and professor!

I can honestly say that I wish the rest of my professors were like him; he is the one that has engaged me the most, and actually reminded me of what a Universtity is supposed to be about- the open flow of thoughts and ideas between student and professor. I am now taking a minor in CL, and I plan to take him as often as I can.

Ray is hilarious, loud and not afraid to say what he wants. His lectures can be somewhat boring but for the most part they are great to listen to. Class is fairly easy 1 essay, 2 tests and a final. The class is very different then what I thought it was going to be, but interesting and you're guarenteed to laugh every day.

Ray is inspirational, hilarious, and unconventionally informative. I would recommend everyone take this class, even if they don't need it. If you get the chance, go to his office hours just to chat. DEFINETELY enroll in his class. It was probably the best college experience I have had so far. (If you just listen you will get an A.)

Pretty easy stuff. His exams pick on little details, so be sure to study for them. Truly does try to reach the students. I must say that I think he's the only pessimistic idealist I have ever met!

First of all, this man does not rant. He inspires. He is brilliant and poignant. He does curse, but if anything he does it to wake up the near-dead students he is forced to have. Take him! He is wonderful.

He is very passionate during his lectures. He get's upset very easily. The people that take his class just want the easy grade, or they think it has something to do with "popular comedy." Do the readings and the essays and you'll be fine! Other than that he is a good professor.

This was, by far, the best class I've taken at this school. Ray is a passionate guy who knows what he's talking about. He was in his 20s in the 1960s so, he's very much a modern day hippie which makes the class that much more interesting. There were 2 small writing assignments and lots of great movies to watch. Hands down the best professor I have ever taken. Took this class for a capstone, but ended up learning a lot.. thought I was going to get a B but got an A. I always felt like clapping after his lectures

If you don't study or read, you won't do well. Easy if you keep up with the material and pay attention in class. Attendance not mandatory, so make a friend and copy notes. Watch the movies and read the stories. Study his lecture notes in addition to the course packet. Failure to study will result in a bad grade.

This class was a sleeper. I didn't expcect for this guy to be so laid back and professional all at once. His lectures are consistently fun and informative. You'll something new every class session. He's adament about class participation and response. It's an easy A if you stay on top of the notes and watch the films on time.

Very funny... but he's kind of a nut! Reading is a MUST or you won't do well. At times I felt like I was taking a philosophy class, he takes his subject veeery seriously do don't think you can goof off just because it's a comedy class. Tests not easy, picky grader. Not the worst teacher, not the best. Overall, interesting.

Class was interesting, he's really insightful past all the cursing and off topic comments about our society. Reading is helpful but his lectures are basically what he tests on. If you want to learn something new, then this class is a must.

This is the greatest professor I have had. He teaches you how to be a good person more than anything else. He speaks the truth and tells it how it is. Some of the plays can be a bit dry but it is a literature class all in all. Every class I laughed and to many people that might not matter but it made it a great place to be.

I love this class. I have learned more about life than in any other csulb class. For all the students who did not like him... you need to re-evaluate you meaning of living. Don't be so uptight. This teacher brings us all back down to reality where we should be. Great class!!!!

Where to begin...I don't mind language but this guy takes it to the extreme, for a literature teacher he seems to have a pretty small vocabulary. Class was pretty boring, the first few movies are good but then they go down from there. If you enjoy listening to liberal propaganda then you should take this class because that's all you'll get

A lot of people say he's too extreme and **** and leftist, but to understand him, just look at the course material and it's clear. He is very kind and wants the students who care to do well. Always keep up with the material and ask questions.

His theories are amazing and opened up my eyes to see the world in a different light. He's not just teaching about the comic spirit, but about things that are relevant to everyone. Lacoste is definitely an awesome professor. He makes the topics interesting and relates them to life. Most classes, you'll walk away feeling better. Test are pretty straight forward. He tells you exactly what will be on the test. Papers aren't too difficult. Just don't leave class in the middle of lecture, he hates it.

This is a great teacher, great person. I agree with many of his views of our world. Notes are not easy to take with Lacoste because he goes off subject a lot, so prepare. I believe that what he talks or 'preaches' about is more important. If you don't like Lacoste, it's likely because you're the 'worldly fool' that he is always talking about.

Best professor i ever had, He really inspired me and open my eyes, not a class for people who cant take a joke, like Bush, and conservatives and republicans in general. This teachers have the best lectures, sometimes I feel like I'm watching improv or stand-up, he is amazing. I am so glad I took this class with him, he has been such an inspiration. He may curse, but he puts so much energy into his teaching that it is note worthy.

He gives you second chance on your essay. He understands what a student goes through but doesn't put up with bad behavior.

Ok so he is extremely funny, and he really does care about his students. You shouldn't take what he says literally sometimes. But he preaches about being kind to others but he won't let you use the bathroom in the middle of class. He will go ape on you if you look at him funny. Fun, but class can be a bore. Work load is light.

Great Professor. Interesting lectures. Anti-establishment. Taking him is not only entertaining but a huge GPA boost. Attendance is not required but helps. If you like him take Karl Squittier and vice versa. Theyre buddies. Do not take these teachers if you cannot handle foul language. =)

I graduated from CSULB long ago but still remember him as being my favorite college professor in my undergrad and graduate studies. Great sense of humor and knows his stuff!
