He talks with very big vocab words and you will feel lost through the entire class. He relies heavily on ancient texts that go along with the class but are impossible to read. Avoid this guy if possible.

He is absolutely horrible. Get out while you can. You only have 2 tests, which consist of your midterm and final. Everything that is talked about in class doesn't pertain to the midterm or final, you have to go on wikipedia yourself and memorize 100 words. Horrible.

Talks for the entire lecture, he will go over about 3 words that we need to memorize for the final in each lecture. Slowest 1 hour and 15 minutes of your life. I have not learned anything, it is strictly all memorization.

Yes Ray Lurie sucks and is a horrible teacher, BUT if you read the course materials thoroughly, participate often and study a lot.. you can still do well! He isn't the worst professor but he certainly isn't the best. Get on his good side early and don't sit up front, he sweats a lot. I hated this class but i worked hard and got an A, it's possible!

This class is suppose to be a GPA booster seeing that it is a common core class. He is extremely unclear, and assigns texts that are quite boring. Worst Professor I have ever taken at SHU. Completely unclear and expects you to learn ancient texts without even going through them in class. AVOID. He should never have become a teacher. I was a freshman when I took him - I cited my paper improperly and he failed me (meanwhile I sent him beforehand to review/help) Awful.

You need to know 100 terms, he puts 20 on the test and you pick 10.. So basically just do not take this class bc it is so horrible and you will fall asleep every time.

The worst professor in this school, stay away from him. He doesnt teach, material from his class is NOT on midtermfinal, papers he grades are graded really bad, its hard to get more than B. Final is 12 terms from 150, and you have to find their dates, what happened etc. STAY AWAY

DON'T, I REPEAT, DON'T take this class. One the midterm and final, he makes you study over 100 terms and he only puts 10 of them on the exam. None of the terms on the exams are in the book so you'll have to look them up on the web. It is impossible to get an A in this class. You have 2 extremely hard papers, and a colloquia as well. Extremely boring class, him lecturing the entire time and very hard to follow and understand him. assigns a TON of text book work and gives a ton of quizzes and tests that are very hard and require a lot of memorization. would not take him again, didn't learn much but cram dates into my head. classes are never cancelled and never let out early.

DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR! I am in his freshman seminar class and he makes it my most difficult class that I am currently taking. No matter how well you write a paper he always finds ways to prove how you are wrong. In class he will call on you randomly without hesitation and demand answers out of you whether you like it or not.

I had professor Lurie for western civ. He is a nice guy who is super passionate about history. His lectures are super long and boring. 3 papers, a midterm and a final. The papers are easy, he is available to meet if you have questions. But the midterm and final are ridiculous. 65+ vocab terms and you need to know exact dates. Super unnecessary

One of the worst professors, I had a paper to do and he reached out to me to talk about my paper. When I met up with him, all he did was question me. When I submitted another paper he gave such rude response. "I'm perplexed. I had you rewrite your first version of the paper because you entirely ignored the instructions!" He didn't help me at all.

He is so mean and unhelpful with feedback. He uses PowerPoints with only the vocabulary words on the screen with no context. He also watches you like a hawk during exams to the point it induces anxiety. He expects you to memorize 40+ terms at a time along with the date and a fact and significance.

This class literally tested my sanity. The lectures are the most boring thing you will ever listen to, he randomly calls on you so you have to listen. This guy should not be a teacher. He talks about the most ridiculous scripts from random times in the ancient world. You will learn nothing about Ancient to 1500, which is what the course is about. This guys passionate about history, but this should be his hobby and not his job. He just talks about artifacts that mean absolutely nothing.

DO NOT take this class if you do not have to. The lectures have nothing to do with the tests yet you will frequently be called on in class for questions that do not make sense. He will grade your papers harshly even if you follow expectations and his feedback makes no sense. Papers and tests take forever to grade and quizzes are not graded in BB.

No clear notes were given to you to study from when there was a quiz every week. For a class that everyone had to take made it impossible to do well in. This was the only class I've ever had to withdraw from. I hated his teaching style students need a teacher not just to be given a book to teach themselves.

Professor Lurie is very passionate about what he teaches. however, he is the worst professor to email. His emails are very rude and will reply to them at 3 in the morning. worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. projects his political views on the class and cursed my friends and I out because we didn't understand his 5 pages of directions. wants us to read before every class and then during class talks until the very last second, sometimes in circles.just don't take him

All he does is yap and talk all class teaching nothing, my first 3 weeks of class have not learned a single thing. Quizzes he gives does not provide any notes whatsoever.

Terrible professor. I feel bad rating him a 1, as it is misleading. I wish I could give him a 0. He is a professor at a catholic school that argues the truths of the Bible in my class. He is so boring and his mannerisms and just him as a person make it so hard to engage. He just yaps for the entire class and 99% of it is a total waste of breath.
