kind of a hoot. nice guy
Had the worst experiences with him. Wouldn't give him to my worst enemy.
very nice guy, tells a lot of stories, tests are not that bad as long as you take notes in class, no work other than the 3 tests which are not cummulative!
Great guy and a good teacher, always there to help his students and gives fair tests.
Tests were stupid easy, and he makes the material very straightforward. He's also really friendly and kind of funny. Lectures are interesting, if you're into psychology.
I really enjoyed his class. Very interesting literature and information.
easiest class this semester, and its my only honors. i haven't gone in 3 weeks and i have a 95%. his lectures are online and he gives handouts out at the beginning that outline each test. do the outline (which u have to anyways, as a take home test) and you'll get an A. piece of cake :)
Such a down to earth and genuinely nice guy. His powerpoint lectures minimize note taking and if you go to class you remember everything because he throwns in funny stories for every topic. Tests are comprised of 70% powerpoint and 30% textbook which you read the night before. The textbook questions on the test are VERY easy so don't worry, take him.
he is just a great teacher and a really, really great man. one of the nicest, most sincere and open people i have ever met.
he is very monotonous. but isn't a mean person. he is not very helpful, and its hard to get his attention in class. he gets very involved in his lectures. his test questions are sometimes tricky, they test whether you showed up to class. so go to class and do the study guide outlines and you will be fine.
No tricks here, as long as you show up to class and do the study questions. Easy tests, interesting lectures, and he starts 5 minutes late and ends 5 minutes early because he knows the Flipse building is far away. Nice guy, fair too.
BEST TEACHER @ UM! because of him i changed my major to psychology. A's on tests, simple straightfoward, no attendance policy. He is very understanding and caring of all students! I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend him! GREATTTTTTTTT teacher
EASY!! A bit boring, but I never went to class and still got an A.
Not many people show for class exception of first day and exam dates. Slight curve only when grades are that poor. Really straight-forward about what will be on tests (powerpoints, sidenotes mentioned in class, text study q's) If you bomb one test, you probably screwed yourself.
about 1/6 of the class actually showed up for lectures. it was sad, but he is so boring. for the most part he just reads his lectures which are on blackboard. when he did go off topic, his stories were funny and interesting. questions on tests were sometimes tricky, i'd walk out thinking i did so good and then find out i didn't.
Dr. Winters is a super easy teacher and really nice but because of this no one comes to class except on test review days and exams. If you do the study guides and read over the notes you'll get an A. I would really recommend him - He's great
Take this class! Easiest class ever. Everything is from the study guide.
Easy class. Nice guy. Tests are comprised of examples given in class.
Great, laid-back professor who teachers right from the powerpoints. His tests are not difficult if you put a day's worth of studying right before the exam. Go for it!!
I wish he had an attendance policy, because other than tests I went to class twice. And that's why I made a C+...
I think he is the BEST!!! You HAVE to go to class even though he doesnt take attendance...its the only way you will do well on his exams...and go over his study guides very helpful! I loved his class and it was in the summer!!
Easiest class I have ever taken, high school and university included. Kind of have to go to class for examples or just get the notes. Easiest A on campus.
Very cool, laid back professor. He's helpful, and doesn't have an attendance policy, but you should still go to class because his lecture stuff is on the exams. His exams are multi-choice. Textbook is an easy read, class is interesting. He has great facial hair!!
The class was pretty easy as long as you looked over the powerpoints shown in class (which he posts online) before the tests.
Easiest class ever! Don't buy any of the books!!! All you basically have to do is sit in class and maybe write a few notes on the powerpoint print out. Only way to do bad in the class is if you never go and don't look at the notes.
Such an easy class and such a sweet man! Its easy to get an A if you read the powerpoints and do the text questions. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps a lot with remembering the material. His tests mostly revolve around his examples. If you know biology, the second half should be easy. I wish he taught 201! Take his class!
Dr. Winters is such a nice man and a really good teacher, I loved him! His class is really easy just study your notes, powerpoints, and the txt questions and youll be fine. I really enjoyed the class and would definately recommend him!
horrible horrible horrible...had him for a grad class...it's painful seriously. don't ever take this guy!
This guy is really nice and makes the class relevant to students by using a lot of real life examples of what he's teaching. Attendance not mandatory, but many test questions come from his lectures. Tests are easy if you take good notes and study for a few hours. Doesn't focus on knowing terms and tests are multiple choice, usually 40-50.
This professor is fair (I guess), and I think he really tries to be a great professor, but his lectures are really boring (you basically have to go to get the full powerpoint) and the exams are all based off of specific dates. He's not really helpful and if you're interested in psychology, I REALLY wouldn't recommend him.
Let's clear this up - Emotions is not an easy A. I ended up with one but I had to claw my way there. First, you have to stay conscious during Winters' tiring (time-stopping) lectures. Second, you'll have to be smart enough to navigate his ambiguous questions. Last, I wish you all the luck in the world.
Be sure to show up for class and writing down every example he talks about! That is around 70% of the test. Slides repeat a lot of information, the subject itself is easy, it's just his tests are tricky. Once you take the first test you will know his format and tests afterward become a lot easier. Don't need textbook at all.
SO EASY as long as you go to class to get the notes. Tests are word for word of the powerpoint sometimes. Can be boring at times but worth the easy A
Every psychology teacher teaches this class differently. Winters focuses on emotion and how it relates to all the basic aspects of society. His class is really easy but you have to go to class because most of the test in lecture based. He gives you text study questions which are also on the test so you need to read. Easy A if you study!
Great Professor! Tests straight from powerpoints and study questions from text. The first exam is the hardest but the rest will be fairly easier since you know how he tests. His questions ask about exs given in class, maybe definitions, etc. Attendance not mandatory but u should attend 100% as his PP don't contain all material needed. Take him!!1
I bought the book for no reason. He states in the syllabus that he doesnt use it for the exams. Class isnt mandatory but you will need to go if you want to get a good grade on the tests. The questions can be a bit tricky cuz of the wording but if you go to class its so easy to get a B. Great teacher, study his powerpoints and your notes
AWFUL. his slides are so beyond boring and he doesn't show up for office hours. he is of no help when you need further explanation on the topic. most boring class ever
4 exams-25% each. I think he's a great professor and teacher. I was very interested in it until the last exam, where it was like a biology class to me. If you go, pay attention, take notes and answer the questions+read the book, you will get an A. It gets very tempting to skip, it can be very boring. You must read the book. 33% of the test is book.
Don't know how I ended up getting an A but I did. Answer his study guide questions, some will show up on the exam. The lecture questions were a little tricky so make sure to pay attention to the examples he gives in class.
If you're the kind of student that goes to class and pays attention, this is the easiest A ever. He tells you what's on the text and as long as you do the study guide questions from the txtbk, you can get an A+ on every exam without trying. Iclicker questions are an easy A also! Not the most interesting but an easy enough A!
Took the summer 6 wk version this summer and he DID use the book. Do the text study guides, pay attention to his examples, take good notes and you should do fine. NOTE: he is extremely boring-eat something before you get to his class to stay awake!
Such an easy class! He is the cutest professor and if you come to class (which you should because clicker points are part of your grade and you can get ALOT of extra credit) then there is no way to not get an A on his tests. Study the examples he gives which are 90% of the exam and you'll do fine. Easy A+
Easiest class I have ever taken. Impossible not to receive a 100% in the class. Go to every class if you want the iClicker points to get you 20% bonus on each test. Class grade is made up solely of the 4 exams. Read over powerpoints and do book review questions for the tests (sometimes tedious). Get into Winters' class section at any cost.
easiest teacher i've had in the past 5 years of my life! all info is on the powerpoint so you never have to go to class. just get a friend to do iclicker cause you want that 2 letter grade curve :) tests come from powerpoint and study guide questions. answers for the study guide come from the book but you don't have to actually read the book. easy!
4 exams straight from the powerpoint - go to class and answer iclicker questions to receive a 20% boost on your tests. Easiest class at UM if you take it with Winters.
Great professor. Very easy, but doesn't cover all the materials on the exam. The Iclicker is the best thing, it basically boosts your grade up 2 letters every exam. Just need to attend.
This class is really interesting and the coursework is simple. Most of his test are based on his lecture so go to class but it's easy!
Extremely easy! You must take him. His iclicker points boosts your exam scores up a lottt. About 2/3 of his tests are from lectures, so just attend class or get notes from someone, and you'll be fine. Definitely one of the easiest A's I've gotten at UM!
Best teacher I had this semester. He is genuinely a very nice person and he teaches you the most interesting aspects of psychology. He uses many real-life examples to illustrate the concepts he is teaching. I would highly recommend him to anyone. Not only is it easy to get an A, but you learn a lot too.
He's kind and easy. Gives a lot of extra credit. It's an easy A and super interesting. Loved the class
If you are looking for the easiest class possible, look no further. I swear I literally studied the powerpoints the night before and I got around a 110%. IF you show up to every class, basicallly you get either a 10 % bonus to you test or higher (I got 20% bonuses on all my tests). Basically, if your looking for the A, here it is.
Best Teacher Ever, has examples for everything. Go to class and get up to 13 points on each Exam. I got a 100 on all 3 exams. Anyone who gets anything but an A should drop of college
Dr. Winters is a great professor! As someone who is not a psych major, I had no business in this class, but he teaches in a way that most everyone can understand. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you want those bonus points on your test you must show up to take the iclicker questions at the end of every class.
4 tests, you're told way ahead of time exactly what's going to be on them. You only need to read the text book to answer the text study questions before the tests. iClicker questions at the end of every class can boost your test grade up to 13%. I wish more classes were structured this way; it's a pretty easy A.
Really boring lecturer, but easy A, and up to 10 extra credit points just for showing up to class. It's a good class to online shop in. You don't have to show up if you don't want the extra credit but it definitely helps. Assigns long study guides with lots of tedious vocab, and it shows up on the exams.
Go to class for many iClicker extra clicker points. Easy class for science majors. He's a great guy with movie clips and some personal stories. You def need the textbook and his tests cover stuff that isn't even on the review sometimes. But overall an interesting class that isn't too bad with a great prof.
Winters' class lectures are very easy. He posts all of the powerpoints on Blackboard in advance. After every lecture, he asks iClicker questions. You can get up to 10 EC points on each test from these. Hard part is that half the questions on the 4 tests come from the textbook, which he doesn't teach in class. A lot of textbook reading is a must.
His class is very helpful and honestly the content is SO interesting. He is hilarious. However, BE READY TO READ. You'll have quizzes every class (iClicker) based on his PPPs. The PPPs and the book have sometimes conflicting info. You HAVE to read the book. You HAVE to read the PPPs. The exams aren't tough IF you read. He's great. Would take again!
Even though I do not like his voice, his a nice old-man. His lectures are not that boring. You definitely have to read a lot and do many practice questions for the exams. The practice questions are extremely important, if you do not do them you wont pass. His test are pretty long and kinda hard, but he gives extra points and curve at the end.
This class is very easy. iClicker questions on the information you just go over in class, (you can use your notes) can give you up to 10% extra credit on an exam. He is very clear. Half the exam is on his lecture topics, and the other is the textbook information. If you attend class, do the iClicker questions and read the text you will get an A.
It's tough to pay attention in class cause it goes by so slow, but you need to go for the iClicker questions (extra credit on your tests!). He's a really sweet professor and always willing to help you out. It's an easy class if you put effort into it-don't take it if you're lazy and not willing to do a lot of reading. Grading criteria: 4 tests
A really interesting class with a great prof! It's not hard to do well, tests are STRAIGHT from lecture and practice tests (which require textbook to complete). Study those 2, and you're guaranteed an A! 4 tests including the final, none cumulative. Clicker questions during each class for EC, if you even need it
Interesting class with a great teacher- I would recommend taking his class to anyone- the iclicker questions really help boost your grade and the test are VERY straight froward plus its actually interesting
Winters is a great professor. He does iClicker questions every class which can give you a 10%+ boost on a test. Gives out a study guide based on textbook information for every test. Tests are 50% lecture and 50% textbook study guide. If you read the lecture slides and do the study guide, this class is an easy A.
Great man. Great mustache. Great class. YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS MAN.
He's the man! It's an easy A and he's a great guy, I highly recommend this class.
Go to class, play on laptop. Answer extra credit questions and study for a couple of hours the day before and uve got ur A. No cumulative exams, and pretty much says whats on every exam
Exams consist of textbook & lecture questions, both which cover completely different material, but he gives you basically the exact questions that will be on the test. Extra credit iClicker questions at each class.
Very nice. Lectures were boring but class was a joke. You don't even need to show up as long as you get the notes. He gives extra credit questions after every test which averaged out to add 10% to every test i took. Tests were word for word from lectures. He however makes you fill out huge true and false study guides which are half the test.
Very nice guy, very easy class. Show up, answer the iclicker questions, and study an hour or two before the tests, you've got your A+. Just be sure to study the power points and the practice quiz. These are where he gets 100% of his questions.
I love Dr. Winters. His lectures were interesting. Study the questions from the powerpoints and the True and False questions he gives before every exam and it's an easy A
This class is literally fool-proof. Easiest A of my life. Plus content was pretty interesting but if you're bored during lectures just play on your laptop all class and you still got your A. Exams are multiple choice and you can get up to 10% extra credit on EVERY test by basically just showing up to class. Dr. Winters is the man. Take this class.
Meh didn't really learn/retain anything personally, I kinda just walked in and walked out with an A... I mean as a pre-med that's nice but if you want to learn and engage yourself in the academics, I wouldn't choose him. Easy A though, free iclicker points added to each test and the tests aren't hard either. Don't need textbook
Dr. Winters was by far one of my favorite professors at UM, a very nice down to earth guy who knows how to lecture and has a great teaching style. Every class you get extra credit opportunities, and he makes it very clear how to be prepared for class and exams. Overall classes are very easy and relaxed, tests are based off lectures and textbook.
Dr. Winters is a great intro to psych professor. Your final grade is based on 4 tests. The tests are half lecture questions and half textbook questions.
Best psych professor at UM. Super easy class if you just study a little the night before tests and go to class for the extra credit he gives through i clicker questions. Take him if you can.
Easy A is a given. Recommend for pre-meds needing a low-time requirement class, plus Dr. Winters can be very funny and engaging occasionally. Just remember that the material itself is important beyond straight test question memorization.
best teacher ever
GREAT PSY110 OPTION. MUST TAKE IT. 4 Midterms (no cumulative final), for which half is based DIRECTLY from in-class questions, and the other half are drawn out of a word document of True/False questions you have to do yourself before the exam (you NEED the textbook for that, cause Quizlet does not have everything). Extra credit with iClicker pts.
As long as you pay attention in lecture(or get notes from a friend) and do the practice questions he assigns from the textbook, you'll be fine. The questions are almost exactly from the practice and the iclicker he does in class. The lectures might get slow, but show up on the days he does iclicker because you can get a lot of extra credit.
This is an EXTREMELY easy class. You can study the night before and still get an A on the exams. If you go to class, you can earn up to 10 percent to add to each exam grade. You won't get much out of this class if you are really interested in learning about psychology, but if you want a low commitment class and an easy A, take Winters.
Lectures are a bit boring but if you want a good grade, he's your best bet. There are 4 tests total, but you can gain up to 10% extra credit on each one if you show up to class and answer i clicker questions. As for the book, the information you need is in the true or false questions he posts for each test.
Took his class online Fall 2020. Quizzes and tests were straight from the lecture and practice exams. Easy class and a great guy :) P.S. quizzes were 50 true or false and tests were 50 multiple choice
Don't take this class online if trying to learn. Lectures are pre-recorded with no student-teacher interaction. Little to no accommodations through COVID.
This class is 100% lecture. For Covid, he just recorded lectures for us to watch which was convenient and easy. He was nice enough but refused to answer emails about computer problems when it came to exams and basically expected you to not have any sudden tech issues or fix it on your own in time for the exam, which IMO is unrealistic. Test-heavy.
His lectures are interesting but he requires you to read for 50% of all tests. He does not care if you had problems with your laptop which lowered my grade significantly. I bet if I had him in person this rating would have been better, but I just cant deal with online PSY110. Its not that Im a bad student, all my other classes were As.
All lectures were pre-recorded, would lose his place during lecture often & skip over certain questions/topics, exams/quizzes were lengthy, wasn't understanding at all w/ computer issues, expected students to always have stable internet connection. If you can take any other professor, I would. This class shouldn't be as difficult as it was.
Online course huge content, very difficult, not recommended
Such a shame because it is such an interesting class, but a terrible Professor. Lectures are pre-recorded, which DOES NOT help. Hard to ask questions about a topic or lecture. Not understanding AT ALL with anything. I do not recommend this Professor and to not take it online. I regret taking a great class with a Professor such as Dr. Winters.
I took Psychology 417 fro Dr. /winters in 1974. Happy to see he's still there.
