He is weird, like bad weird. Kind of whiney.
He makes it easy, since he uses every example from the book anyhows!, then his tests will kill you and he becomes really pissy with you, kinda unhelpful as well. I need to repeat this class, but never with him!
I feel that Deskins is a good professor and that he makes an honest effort to really get a point across. He never will move on if you voice a concern about a topic. He schedules his lecture to allow for plenty of time in for students to ask questions
When you ask him a question, he seems to think you're crazy for asking and kind of makes you feel bad for asking.He knows his math but analyzes things that don't really apply to math.
like to stare at students if they dont know the answer as if they are stupid. does not give extra credit and is not easy... will teach up to 2 sections a day and will not go over old class work... not a cool guy, stay away there must be better!

he has to be the hardest class to pass. the answers to his multiple choice questions are very confusing. do not attempt this class!
does a decent job teaching but doesnt return old tests, be sure you do your homework everynight and take notes and you should be able to pass this class
If you want to take a course under him, make sure you can study and understand the subject on your own without his help what so ever. He is a very, very, very bad teacher. He is disorganized, doesn't know how to teach, doesn't take time to answre questions, and doesn't care if you learn anything.
Took him for college algebra, trig and pre-cal...he is demanding and hard, but if you like to be challenged and learn alot he is the teacher to take. He covers alot of information in one class usually two or sections per class. His tests are hard as hell, but after taking his class you are ready for upper level math

Not helpful at all. Covers material tooooo fast and expects you to know it. Asks if you have questions, but makes you feel like he does not want you to ask them. Very dry personality. Seems like he would rather be doing something else than teaching. Would never take him again. Only C I have ever gotten in two years ( glad it was a C and not lower)
This man is the most condescending teacher ever. He can't teach, and then gets mad at the class when the grades aren't what they should be.

Only has 4 lab grades that are worth 10 points each and if you miss a decimal or a sign he takes 4 or 5 points of.so does nothing. he has 4 or 5 tests and EXAM, which are hard as hell. taking him for upper level calculus was one of the worst mistakes of my life. do not take him unless you can teach yourself the material needed.
Arrogant, unresponsive, and defiant. Don't bother with the $100+ TI calculator that you'll need for every other math class. He refuses to teach the calculator stuff. You'll be behind in the next class because of this. He won't use the projector, so you'll only be able to take part of the notes (he stands between students and the whiteboard).

I don't know what everybody is talking about. He's not out to get you. His test are challenging but NOT at all dastardly. He is very approachable IF YOU WANT TO LEARN.
Was scared taking him cuz of the ratings, but hes a good professor. took him in summer III for calc II and passed. He explains really well and will answer any & all questions u have. really cool & calm during class. He's the mr. wolf of calculus. just do your homework cuz the test prob. r the even ones out the book. i recommend him for calculus
dont take this guy unless you know something about calculus. doesnt check hw, doesnt know anything about the labs. its basically a do it yourself class. he looks at you in a funny way when you ask certain questions. helpful but only to a certain extent. veryyy cold. a mr wolf of calculus lol.

Really knows His math, just can't teach it. Like pulling teeth trying to get him to explain something, then he gives some off the wall example that has nothing to do with what was just covered. Teaches like it is a refresher course. Take him only if Algebra is easy for you.
I would say that the rest of these comments are pretty accurate. He is smart, but can't teach. Defintely the most arrogant and condescending teacher I have ever had. He knows what he is talking about but he does not communitcate it well at all. Your probabaly better off taking an online Cal III course than taking him.
I agree that this class it not easy, but Calculus its not meant to be easy. He's a good guy and his tests are problems directly from the text book. If you do your homework you'll do fine

Take this class if you want to fail! Look at myedu and you can see that more than half his students get an F. Take him if you want to fail and have to delay all the classes that require CALC II as a prereq.

Horrible teacher! Do not take his class. He teaches upper level math and expects everyone to know what he's talking about the first time around. His labs are absurd and extremely time consuming. I even went to his office to get help with his labs and he was completely rude and condescending (as many people have already said). Beware of Deskins!
If you can overlook this professor's sarcasm and meaningless comments, then take him, he knows his mathematics. However, this professor lacks fundamental skills of communication. Does not seem approachable and appears not to like to teach mathematics, seems like it is a waste of his time. Labs are useless. Not really recommended.
This teacher is horrible. He is lacking in social skills as he is totally unapproachable and rude. He reads the definitions of formulas from an overhead projector instead of teaching the class how to apply them to problems. I cannot believe that Collin College keeps him on staff as he is a detrement to their stellar repuation.
I found him not bad as a teacher although I got only 'C' for the class. He just seems to believe that student's effort is all it counts, not his. In other words, you have to do your homework thoroughly, and be prepared to ask questions in class.
If you enjoy math as much as I do you must take another professor. He is lazy, you don't see your exams, no extra credits whatsoever. If you hope to learn Mathematica forget it! If you ask questions during the labs he does not help you. He missed more classes than I did. I don't understand how Collin College allows some teachers to teach.
I go to Trinity University and I see my teachers cruising around in Mercedes that absolutely suck compared to this guy. Prof. Deskins is an excellent teacher. I hadn't taken calc in a while and he brought me up to speed and was very fair with his test. Thanks to Deskins I have an A in calc 3 right now, all you guys are prob. math retarded.....

This guy was my living nightmare. I was never great at math, but he sure did make me feel like even more of an idiot. I didn't feel comfortable to ask questions, he's super rude. Yes, you may be able to understand him, but unless you study and can do everything without a professor, just walk away now. I failed his class and suggest no one take him.
I think that he is a great professor. He answers all the students questions and is extremely helpful. Although his homework list is kinda long, but his exams are very similar to the homework. I got As in all his classes. Its better if u attend all his classes but u can skip some and study home. If ur willing to do the hw then I highly recommend him
I love Mathematics. He is the worst Calculus instructor I have ever had and taking him has almost made me want to change my major. Very condescending and seems to be on an anti-technology crusade. I will NOT be taking him in the fall. He acts like he wants to be helpful, however, he seems to like to belittle you for asking how to do a problem.
I didnt like him much... he always gave rude comments. He didnt explain how the math lab works the first semester i was ever at a college.So i ended up missing the first assignments which made me fail this class. I didnt like him. i would suggest taking someone else.

I took Calc II over the summer. He uses photocopied slides from the book on overhead; refuses to use WebAssign, and is unintentionally condecending. I decided to drop after having asked a question which he refused to answer (as it would take too much class time), he then proceeded to waste 15 min factoring a fraction for his own enjoyment.
He is very knowledgeable but does a poor job of delivering it. He is very fast when he lectures like he's got a train to catch and then asking him questions in class is a big "NO-NO". He tends to be sarcastic. Also he will do these extremely hard and boring labs that you will be stuck with until he comes and actually gives you the answer.
I heard horrible things about this guy before taking him,but had no choice. Turns out...he's not so bad. His lectures include reading from the book and working problems out on the board. He's very blunt, by the rules, doesn't curve, but grades fair. His tests are tough, but from the assigned hw. Do the hw, understand the material, get good grades. He lets you use a notecard on tests for formulas and notes. Not so bad after all. He explains things pretty well for the most part.
Quite possibly the worst instructor I have ever had. Very condescending, quite rude and extremely sarcastic. Lacks even the most basic social skill, appears to not care about actually teaching, nor holds any interest in student success. I've learned more from Youtube comment threads than from him.

Avoid this guy, he doesn't explain things very well. He expects you to instantly be an expert as soon as he shows you something. He gets defensive if you ask for a better explanation. And he doesn't bring your tests back to class so you can see what you did wrong, you have to go to his office for that. He doesn't do much to help you learn, avoid.
Do not, no matter how desperate, take his class.
This guy just confused me when it wasn't needed. I never knew something so simple can seem so complicated. And i'm pretty good in math, took calculus in highschool and got an A. But this guy makes me feel dumb and expects you to already know the material. After one session with him, I just dropped as it wasn't worth getting a bad grade. Stay away!
By far the worst teacher i have ever had. You get to glance at tests you have taken, but can't study off them for the exam. He does not review for tests. Answers questions by treating you like you are dumb for not knowing the answers. If you don't speak very good English, don't ask any questions, he won't understand you and he will laughat you.
DO not take this teacher. you will regret it!! before you get into the class, he'll expect you to know the material already and says,"This should be a review." Expect to teach yourself for the semester if you take him. He gets off topic often and likes to tell stories that have nothing to do with what ur learning. worst experience ever.

I pass the class, but a lot of people were struggling and I ended up tutoring them. They pass the class with my help. He is OK. BUT not the best, he leans more towards the lower end of the scale. However come in with some background knowledge and how to understand concepts. PISD student it just algebra 1 and 2 together. People good luck.
Solid math professor, just wish I didn't take the class at 7pm. Both students and the professor would show signs of tiredness.
This guy isn't terrible, however I would absolutely not take him again. He does occasionally assign large amounts of homework, but it is still doable, just takes a while. He is occasionally rude to students. He likes to write question-marks on my graded labs instead of briefly explaining why the answer was wrong. Take another instructor if you can.
He is extremely clear about what is expected and what will appear on tests. While he will not "dumb down" his language, his lectures are surprisingly clear, and he gives good examples that mirror what appears on the tests. He does grade pretty hard - no curve! - but he only tests what he covers.

Some of the more negative reviews are rather old, so I feel he must have improved over the years because I really enjoyed him. He works example problems which makes it easy to learn the concepts. I feel if you're someone who is good at math, you'll enjoy him. If not, I would recommend someone else.
One of the most unhelpful professors, even teachers, that I have ever had. He does not teach anything. He simply works out problems on the whiteboard and does not give any explanation as to what he is doing. Always ended class 15-20 minutes early.
Doesn't return exams so if you want to take a look at them try finding him during his office hours. Would not recommend to anyone.
Online class. Had no contact with prof. except a questions about the textbook. I made a B because I worked really hard, copied the e-text by hand, studied hours and hours. I can't say he's not helpful b/c I never asked for help. Used Khan Academy & other sources. The labs were tough. The tests were really tough. But then I'm not a math whiz.
Very good professor. Taught by working examples and the examples were almost identical to homework and tests. Sometimes he would get ahead of himself and confuse the class but was always willing to go back and clarify what he had done. There was a reasonable amount of homework and the tests weren't hard. Would recommend
As a person, he is nice and respectful but as a professor not so good, makes test the hardest, a lot of online homework, with lab works that he would not return or explain, no extra credit for anything if you want to get over with math please don't take him use to love math now I hate it. He hardly uses calculator and is more of an oldschool....

His "lectures" are just him going over problems from the book, and he is HORRIBLE at answering questions. It got to the point where students would just ask other students their questions instead. He truly doesn't care if you pass or fail....
Does not give reviews or go over what will be on the test. If you don't show enough work on test he fails you although the test are multiple choice and not much work is needed. You are better off doing your homework and looking at the videos in resources to learn the material than going to class.

Doesnt prepare for class. Reads text book word for word to you. Only works about 4 of the even problems and then goes to next sec. Always let you out early but if youre not learning what good is that? Labs are not at all what you prac in HW. Says to ask ?s then talks down to you. Good luck to you. I just got my refund.
He won't work with his students. I tried everything to try and pass his class including talk to him but nothing worked. I studied so much but his lectures are no help even a little bit. He does all the easy examples with you but not the hard ones. Be prepared teach yourself!!!!
Doing all his homework doesn't guarantee you an A in his exam, as he gave different or heavier one on the exams. Also easy to mark 1 point off if your work doesn't satisfy him. I got a B, which is also the highest one in our class; while half of the class were gone away after several exams. Not recommend if you're NOT both smart & hard-working.
Seems like he's just here to make money, doesn't actually care for the students, or for clarity.
He is great at explaining Calculus. I would take his class again for sure. I am not good at math at all, but by the end of the semester I began to understand it a whole lot more than before. The tests are difficult as they cover a lot of material. I highly recommend practicing the questions covered in class every day, repetition is key.
He took forever to answer emails and did not offer any help in this course. It was 100% self taught. I struggled a lot. Homework was due every week on Sunday and there was a test every month which had to be proctored. He rose my final class grade from a C to a B which I really appreciated.
Deskins was the worst professor! He doesnt explain anything. He stands up at the board and solves math problems, but does not explain how to get the answer. He told our class that we had to learn on our own. He said that he expects us to do math 3-4 hours everyday in order to pass. If you cant learn on your own then I wouldnt recommend this.
Online Class. Each week there was 1 or 2 homework sections that were 15-30 questions each. Labs were due before each test which were really hard. The tests are all about 32 multiple choice questions but they were still difficult. The 5 tests make up 80% of grade. No extra credit or curves. You teach yourself. Looking up videos on hard questions.
ONLINE CLASS Its a big fat no from me. Literally doesn't prepare for any of the lessons & you are forced to look at the multimedia library to learn, which helps somewhat but that's it. Furthermore, the email replies are cut/ paste from a syllabus after asking for extra clarifications. Test are hard and will need to use study plan option for help.

Didn't teach anything in class and just did problems for hours on end without explanation. It's basically a self-taught class. Also he'll be sure to remind you daily that things will only get harder.
THis is literally the most un-understanding human being ever. If u wanna fail, take this class. Literally lots of homework to make u fail( more than 500) problems and i am not even kidding. Moreover connect math makes it harder to get past one problem. I hated the class and withdrew last minute.
Overall, the class wasn't great. I am good at math, always have been, and I've never failed a math class until this class. Deskins' lectured, but would often veer off, and had a very intimidating demeanor making it hard to go to him for help. No reviews available for the 5 tests that made up the majority of your grade. Overall tough.
Worst professor I've ever had everything is self-taught. Gives too much homework with 50 questions. Grades everything till the end of the semester, he isn't helpful.
Weekly homework of average around 100 questions. Weekly Labs of around 35 questions and weekly exams (took class over summer). Not accessible via email. YOU WILL HAVE TO TEACH YOURSELF. If math is not your strong subject DO NOT TAKE HIM! All hw, quizzes are taken on mymathlab so all he does is input grades into CANVAS that's it!
Made class horrible. Would tell people their answer was wrong even though they were correct. Would make students feel like they couldn't ask for help. 100% self-taught class. Caught him making fun of some students for even asking for help and not understanding what he's teaching cause he goes off the subject a lot.
Even if math is your strong suit, choose a different professor. Often goes off topic and will lecture on the same problem the whole time. Tests were impossible, 50-60 questions to complete in 50 minutes... all problems that couldn't be done on a calculator. 100% self-taught, so with a full load of classes it's not advisable.
