He is a sweet guy and very helpful when you have questions. There will be clicker quiz for attendance in the beginning and during the class but not too hard. It's easy to get an A if you show up and pay attention.
Raymond is so awkwardly funny and nice in class! College algebra is all mylabsplus but, Raymond was a good teacher that tried his best to help students in class. Attendance counts but by the end of the semester we had a sign in sheet and you could get a friend to sometimes put your initials in for you. Overall, super nice guy.
Every day he makes "Clicker questions", that is the attendance.
Worst professor I ever had. He will take the whole class period to work over 2 problems then when you do the online homework and quizzes you will quickly find out the homework is ten times harder. He's just as confused as you are when it comes to the material and does not give prepared material to help you. Expect to teach yourself.
Good professor. Will give you good feedback about what you're missing if you go to his office. Pink sheets are a blessing. Tons of homework, pre-class assignments, and quizzes though. Be ready to put in some work. Good for students like me who are just ready to be DONE with math.
This guy is good. Not just relative to Arkansas' terrible math department but by himself.
Raymond's a nice guy, he really tries to go at a pace where everyone in the classroom can understand the processes hes teaching which I really appreciated. Attendance isnt mandatory, but there are random clicker point quizzes for credit
The practice tests are identical to the actual test. Doesn't have consistency with clicker questions, most of the time they are just participation points. He reminds me of Jimmy Fallon. If you can memorize the practice tests you will get a 100 on them.
By far the most caring prof I've ever had. He really wants his students to succeed, and will do just about anything before, during and after class to help. Survey is not an easy subject, but he makes it much more doable.
Prof D is extremely good at explaining survey of calculus &breaking it down to a simple level. I have friends in other survey of cal classes who say their professors have a hard time simplifying it. Prof D cares a lot about his students &goes around every class period to help. Attendance isn't mandatory but helps your grade due to clickers
This class was extremely hard. The professor clearly knows the material but failed to cover the more advanced questions in each lesson. I would get home to do homework and could only do the first two or so, then had to teach myself the rest.
Raymond is a nice guy, but I wouldn't take his class again. I was enrolled in it in a previous semester and had to drop (I blamed myself). After taking it again I realized my grade was due to teaching ability. Only covers simple examples in class. He leaves very little time for questions and student guided discussions.
Raymond is a good teacher, and tries to keep class interesting. He is available outside of class to answer any questions as well as to talk about grades. He is understanding, and tries to help you out in anyway he can.
He's a great teacher who is clearly intelligent and willing to help students with any questions they have. He has office hours pretty much every day and is very willing to help students out. This is a fast paced course and it is very important to understand all parts of the lecture, as future content is built on everything previously learned!!
Does a great job of dumbing down material and going at a pace that fits most students. People complaining refused to put the work in/ didn't go to class. Homework is long and annoying but practice tests are just like the exam. Really fun teacher to have.
Honestly not a difficult class! The tests are IDENTICAL to the practice tests which you can take as many times as you want and he's always willing to work with you when you need extra help outside of class. He constantly makes sure that everyone is still following along and won't move on until everyone understands. He is awesome!!
Professor prepared us well for all 5 exams by going over multiple practice problems from each topic. He drops multiple homework assignments and you have the opportunity to retake one exam at the end of the semester. The practice exams are just like the real thing, but it is important to stay on top of ALEKS to receive an A.
Great class, however tests are 75% so its hard at times
Professor D is the best math professor I've had in college. I did good on the first exam, but completely bombed the second and had to go to his office to talk to him. He was very understanding and told me what I should do. I didn't get a bad exam again. I was borderline B and he rounded my grade to a B for my final grade.
Funny guy! Tests were kinda hard though, but his teaching really helped!
Professor is good however, Calc is a difficult course and you will most likely struggle. That being said, Mr. Raymond does his best job to answer questions and is all around very helpful. Would I take this class again, definitely not. would I take this professor again for a different course absolutely.
Great class, he explains everything very well. DO ALL the homework and take the practice exams and you will do great!
Good at explaining. Horrible for online class, I had him the semester everything went online half way through. Never helped us online, but when we were in person he was a decent prof and was easily understood.
Not a good teacher. Extremely good at calculus, but needs a new job. 0/10 experience. Please find people that can teach the material, not that are good at the material. This university's calculus department is a literal joke. Save your money and take this course else where.
This professor is very excited about teaching. His favorite quote would be "no one will throw a calculator at you." He cares and will do his best to teach. He explains things almost too much into depth but it makes it worth it.
Great teacher and easy to understand. He is a hilarious guy and has great enthusiasm when he teaches. He is very understanding about students' personal lives and is willing to work around your outside life. Although attendance is part of your grade you will still be able to understand if you do not go to class. ALEKS is a pain though.
One of the most caring professors I've had, always willing to explain things over to make sure that everyone understands the subject. Showing up to class helps a lot with the understanding of topics a very understanding teacher. Most assignments are on Aleks which can be a bit annoying, but besides that a great teacher made math enjoyable.
He was one of the best professors I had this semester. Was always open to explaining any topics and was so concerned that EVERYONE knew how to do the topics. Had a clear grading rubric and a nice laid-out calendar so no date was confusing. He genuinely loves his job and that really shows. He is a professor that cares what you get in his class
Great professor teaching a really hard class. Extremely helpful outside of class and encourages you to come see him about questions. Get a tutor as soon as you start having problems, it's worth it.
Prof. Raymond is a good instructor for the concepts, & he gives plenty of practice examples. However, you have to keep up with the MyMathLab homework problems if you want to do well on the exams & receive a good grade in the class. I think he makes it doable, it's really just a matter of diligence on our part. Math tutoring is a great resource.
Calculus is one of the hardest classes I've taken. Make sure to do your homework problems throughout the week (DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!! this was my main problem.) Although it was hard, he definitely knows what he is doing/talking about and is more than willing to help. If I were to retake this class, I would pick him again 100%
One of the sweetest professors I have ever had. Was so caring and patient towards his students. He was an easy professor but the class itself can get difficult. Typically there is only one clicker question in a day, sometimes none, and sometimes two. They do drop at least two weeks' worth of clicker questions and at least one quiz. I LOVE HIM!!!
Professor Dick is great; he's very passionate about mathematics and goes in-depth with the material. If you're taking survey, I highly suggest him. The class revolves around MyMathLab but is a very doable and straightforward course. Practice Exams and very similar to the real thing, which helps significantly.
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR!! Last semester I took finite and came from a terrible teacher that made me doubt my skills in math. Taking professor dick is like a completely different world from my last teacher. He is so so sweet and caring. He will literally pace around the class and make sure everyone completely understands. TAKE HIM!!!!! TRUST ME!!
I really enjoyed his class. Calculus is not necessarily fun but he has such a good attitude and I enjoy his class. He never made me feel stupid for needing help and was very patient and kind when I came in for help. Would 100% recommend taking his course!!
Is everything you would ever want when it comes to a math professor. He teaches the concepts well and if you do the homework, show up to class, and work hard, you will absolutely pass. Also he was a wonderful minnesota accent, which made me feel right at home haha
very difficult
Raymond Dick is one of my favorite professors I've ever taken, he is such a goofy guy and he makes going to class worth it. He is by far the best math teacher I ever had because he starts small and works his way up to harder questions. He even lets you have a notecard for the test. I enjoy going to his class, and his clicker questions can be funny.
I usually struggle with math, but Raymond really helped me. I actually felt confidence while taking tests and he helped me review the material. I 100% recommend taking him for math! He deserves the world!
Great teacher and great class. This class was homework heavy but as long as you completed the homework you will do well on the test.
This professor has by far been my favorite math professor I have had at uark. I was very nervous to take calc but I have kept an A in this course the entire semester. He is a great teacher who thoroughly explains the units. I would love to take any more courses that he teaches.
Professor Dick is the best math professor I have had. He takes the time to explain the topics clearly in a way that is easy to understand. I was nervous to take Survey of Calculus but this class is easily passable if you just show up to class and do your homework.
He gives a lot of work but it's necessary for calculus. All of the lectures and videos and practice problems ended up being super helpful.
if you need to take survey of calculus, TAKE THIS MAN!! this is the best i've ever done in a maths course!! he explains everything so well and, the exams are EXACTLY like the practice exams. literally word for word. your grade will be thanking you for taking this professor. attendance is not mandatory but he does clickers every class.
Professor Raymond always cared about their students. He is such a great professor and is very expert at the subject. I would definitely pick him again.
Had Professor Dick for Calc 1 and was an amazing professor. If you go to class you will succeed. He is a great lecturer and clearly explains each unit and problem. He takes time to make sure the whole class understands the concepts. He is a fair grader and a lot of the exams were curved. He is by far the best math professor you will take.
Professor Dick was one of the kindest professors I've had so far in college. He was always willing to stay a little longer in class and help with whatever concept I wasn't understanding. He is very passionate about his work but also understands that if this is the first time you're seeing this material it can be difficult to understand.
Professor Raymond was my all time favorite teacher I have ever had. He did everything in his power to make lectures so easy for us to understand. I had him for survey of calc. I have never been very well at math, but he made this class such a breeze for me. He gives you so many opportunities to get higher grades on many of the assignments.
Genuinely one of the best math professors I've ever had. Absolutely would take him again. Made calculus something I looked forward to, and I'm not maths biggest fan.
It's a math class so it's going to have a lot of homework and assignments. But he's an awesome professor who explains it well. If you have to take survey of calculus take it with him!!!
If you need to take college algebra take him!! He teaches like we are elementary students and is very good with the dumber students. Attendance is required so I would always go and just do my homework while he teaches. You have homework and a quiz every week with multiple try's at each quizzes.
As long as you attend class you will understand whats going on, you also get clicker points which adds up. He is very good at explaining whats going on, as long as you do the practice exams and study for tests you'll do good! Weekly homework and quizzes so make sure you keep up with it.
This is definitely the best professor you could take for calculus. Explains everything well, reviews are awesome, does clicker points but cancels out a few weeks worth of them at the end. Take him if you can.
Raymond Dick was very good and clear with his explanations. We had a tentative schedule, and he followed it exactly, so I was never surprised by anything being due. Homework is due at the end of every week, so just make sure you don't procrastinate on it.
I loved Mr. Dick, he really made me want to show up for class. He will explain a question to you in depth if you are confused or have any questions. Attendance isn't mandatory but he did do clickers. Overall he's a great guy and i would 100% recommend his calc section.
I really enjoyed his class. You get a notecard on all the exams which makes them extremely doable. He was really good about making sure we understood what we were learning as well. Very thorough and a great professor.
He is a really good proffesor. He teaches at a really good speed not to fast, not to slow, he always asks if we need him to re - go over anything. He is organized and always gets grades out on time.
Mr. Dick is extremely kind and caring. He's always willing to help you if you need it. Highly recommend taking Mr. Dick.
He is so nice! He cares about his students, and he makes sure that everyone understands what we're learning. It's a math course, so obviously everything is on MyMathLab, but he is great at answering questions. I always felt prepared for each exam. For attendance, he does clickers but doesn't do them every class. Take him for survey!
Professor Dick is a super nice guy. He never made us feel dumb about a question and if you ask for help he makes it easy to understand. Had hw and quizzes every week. I feel like the grading was evenly distributed. It does take effort in this class especially if you are new to calc. Overall great prof.
I took Raymond for Calc 2 which is already a very hard class, but he made it tolerable. He is basically Elf if he was obsessed with math instead of Christmas.
Mr.Dick is very nice and alway's helps you after class or before if you're stuck. He never makes anyone feel dumb for asking questions and I never felt like I couldn't ask him something. He is very welcoming and is very kind to offering office hours to help you. He is really good on communicating through email.
Mr. Dick is always incredibly nice and is very accommodating for his students. You can tell during lectures that he genuinely cares that you learn the material and never ever makes you look dumb for asking questions. I always felt comfortable taking his class and he was always available during office hours for extra help. Keep up with MyLab and HW!
Also Mr. Dick uploads every single one of his class lectures to Blackboard, something very few professors even bother doing but it's such a tremendous help to be able to go back and relisten to any parts that didn't make sense at first, or if you had to miss class for that day. His study guides are very close to what the exams are, use them!
love this guy
He was so kind. I suck at math, but he cares. I might fail the class idk, but professor is fire. He is so sweetie.
He's such a good dude. Just really cares about everyone and he's a math wizard. Practice test is just like exams so if you study those you will easily pass.
He is a very very nice and chill professor. He is super flexible and understanding and will work with you as long as you are trying to work with him. Obviously put in effort but the class was overall really easy and he made things very easy to understand. It can be a difficult subject but he makes it easy. HIGHLY recommend this professor.
He was one of my favorite professors. He is so kind and understanding. To succeed in the class do the homework and show up to class and you'll do great!!
Nice, Understanding and Great at dumbing down topics. Only downside is he can be slow at times, but ultimately made this class easy for someone who struggled with Calc I.
one of the best math professors i've had. He is easy to listen to, makes things clear, and is a kind person. Drill is very helpful too. Raymond makes sure that you know how to do things. Do the homework, and you got an A. If you don't understand something, email him, go to office hours, ask him after class, he is always available. 10/10 teacher.
Good professor! If you need to take finite I would recommend him. Very passionate about this class and always came into class at 8am with positive energy and a smile. I missed quite a few classes and still managed to make a decent grade. Forgiving when it comes to extending assignments every k now and then. Get a tutor!!
I had a really good experience with this Professor. He cares and if you don't understand something he will help you. For college algebra the homework, and quizzes are on ALEK platform. There is a quiz every week in his class but he goes over the quiz the class before so you will do great. Nothing to complain about he was amazing!!!!
His teaching style is perfect for Calculus 2. He was always in a great mood; you can tell he loves math and teaching. He always made sure to answer all questions and was very punctual about starting and ending class. I would choose him for Calculus 3 if he taught it too.
Great class! He's good at explaining things but be prepared to learn the hardest material outside of class. Also way too many group workdays but overall great teacher.
I loved Professor Dick, he always was excited to teach. He also taught really well. I never dreaded going to his class. It was Calculus II so it was hard material but he taught it in a way that it was easy to understand. I would definitely recommend taking him.
I took Finite Math (MATH 20503) with Mr.Dick and honestly it was a good experience. His lectures and his way of teaching is great and he makes the content more easy to understand. Super great guy and the lectures were very helpful toward completing assignments but the only thing I would say is that the grading criteria is somewhat confusing.
Best professor of my freshman year by far. I was so worried about Cal 2 from word of mouth, but he made everything super easy to understand. It's worth changing your entire schedule just to take him in my opinion. I'm gonna miss him.
Raymond Dick is an amazing teacher. Taught finite super well and explained everything in detail. Sometimes a bit too much as I remember days we'd do 1 or 2 problems only. But he put up the recorded lectures if you ever can't make it. Finite is very doable just do the practice exam questions like 4-5 times and know the HW and you'll be fine.
I wouldn't have passed Calc 2 without him. He's a little quirky but keeps you engaged during lectures. Highly recommend taking him over other professors
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome professor and amazing dude. Taking his class made me love series and sequences as well as math in general. I genuinely went to class every day, excited. Go to lectures, do the homework, and apply yourself. Raymond Dick will make Cal 2 a much easier class. He's the professor you dream about.
Professor Dick is the goat. He made Calculus II really easy and his class was enjoyable. Super nice guy and really wants to see you succeed, always happy to answer questions and does lots of examples in class. Go to drill and this will be an easy A.
I've taken a lot of math classes where I felt like the teacher was good at the material but not good at teaching it. Teachers struggle to understand that someone can't instantly grasp the concept that they have done for years. Raymond moves slow and surveys the class about their grasp so nobody gets left behind, even people on clash royale.
This is a hard class if you don't have a strong math background. But this guy explains pretty well my only complaint is he is kind of jumpy and spends too much time on the easy stuff. But he's super nice and wants you to succeed. Would take him again
really liked his teaching style
Finite is not easy as it is, but if you work really hard to teach yourself the material it's not terrible. He takes a long time to go through the examples in class, which can be helpful for some, but is not the easiest thing to keep you engaged during class time. Tests are in the testing center and you will have the opportunity to retake one.
Has a lot of energy
Really enthusiastic and good teacher. Super open to questions during class and makes everyone feel included. My only complaint with the class was that sometimes I felt like I didn't get the whole picture of what we were doing. But, I still finished with an A so I do highly recommend him.
Clicker points every class. He cares about the students and has review days before every test. Explains everything very well and goes deeper into topics and shows you extra tricks other professors don't show. Best survey teacher.
He is very good at teaching Survey of Calc. He is able to break things down very nicely and makes it easy to understand. He is always making sure everyone is keeping up and no one gets left behind. Very nice professor and highly recommend him!
Very good professor. Clicker questions during each class so make sure to go for an easy grade. I hate math and didn't study much, but if you put forth the effort you will pass. Makes sure everyone understands what is going on before moving on. Overall, a nice guy and goes over things in detail.
Professor Dick taught me a few things this year. Lecture is pretty useless but you still gotta go for attendance points. Dick is very nice and helpful though. He is also very responsive through his email too.
The actual goat. Such a sweet guy who always is willing to help everyone out. He is really great at simplifying things even the hardest math to a 2nd great level. Super understanding guy and very helpful every step of the way. Definitely recommend him as a math professor, especially if you struggle with math.
