He is a funny guy, and an easy marker
Great prof, clear and concise with topics. Very caring towards students and actually enjoys what he is teaching/doing. If you're picking a GEO110 prof, pick him! and Thank me later.
This dude is awesome. He is kind of monotone and reads off the slides occasionally but that doesn't compare to how nice he is and how easy he makes the course. There's 3 tests (no final) in the course all based on lectures and a little bit of textbook reading. you can ace the tests since his questions are literally right out of the slides.
Easily one of the best liberal profs I've ever had taken at Ryerson. Man got a great sense of humor - if you pick it up. Intelligent and insightful manner of lecturing (maybe a bit long and dry) but nonetheless he keeps it interesting. Examinations are heavily based on powerpoint slides and what he talks about in class. Amazing essay feed back.
entire class gets the same essay topic, which he doesnt give us a choice on essay topics we want to write about. Extremely tests heavy as there are three midterms. Often only reads off the slides and classes are boring. It also took him a month to grade the mc midterm. Final essay is also due in early March, which is way too early.
Very Straightforward. A lot of lecture slides (60+) but if you memorize them for the test then you're set. Tests are not cumulative which is great. Nothing not on the slides is tested, except for the bold words in the textbook. No readings. Easy A+ if you put in a little effort to memorize.
One of the best Geography profs at Ryerson! He posts lecture slides on D2L, and his mc midterms are straightforward. Students can definitely do well if willing to put effort to study. The essay topic requires some researches but not too difficult to write. Course breakdown: 1 final essay, 1 group presentation, and two midterms.
Dr Garrison is a great instructor I attended all the classes and he was clear
words cant describe how awesome and inspirational he is! he is super nice and passionate in teaching, and the course is really interesting and engaging! the course involves one essay and three tests, and no final exam! would definitely recommend to anyone who is interested in geography!
Nice guy. Great upper liberal to take, easy and straightforward. However, takes way too long to hand back marks.
Really wants students to do well and succeed. No final instead gives 3 tests. Tests were simple and easy.
One of the best profs I've had. The course was very straightforward and he taught it extremely well. Would take any of his courses again
Dr. Garrison is great. Clear and concise with what's expected on the tests and assignments. There were 3 midterms and 1 paper. Don't expect to pass without studying AT ALL though.
Professor Garrison is an amazing human being and a great professor. I have taken geo classes just based on the fact that he is teaching, he is extremely straightforward in what he expects for assignments/essays and give hints about exams/tests throughout the semester. He is extremely understanding, and you can tell he loves his job
Amazing Prof! Tests were straightforward, right from the powerpoints. He replies to his emails quickly and is very caring.
He is a very caring individual and wants students to do well in school. Very clear and concise. Just pay attention and go over his powerpoints , youll get an easy A. Just show up to class, you'll be fine.
This professor never has to raise his voice to get students' attention. I do not know if it just us or is it him. Whatever the case, he is chill ...
Prof. Garrison is so kind, and his lectures are very clear and straightforward. Attend all classes and he'll give you hints for tests. The content of this class is also very interesting, and a nice break from the other classes. Highly, highly recommend Prof. Garrison!
one of the most caring profs ive ever meet. He understands that students go through a lot of stress, so he makes sures that were ok and doesn't go so hard on us. Lectures are very interesting. Its a nice break from your other heavy tough classes
Very nice got, attend class and he will give you hints about the exam. His lectures were also very interesting!
Wish more profs were like him, he is so simple and teaches in a very pleasant way.
great prof
The course was easy overall. The lowest grade anybody got on the group project (worth 20%) was 80%. Midterm and final exam were super easy, straight from lecture (no textbook required). Only thing that annoyed me was that he gave 25% of our grade back before finals. The rest was given on final grade day. Other than that, course was straightforward.
Prof Garrison is amazing! There is a midterm, individual essay, group presentation and final exam. The exams are super easy, and so are the essay and presentation. My only complaint is that our essay marks were given back really late. Other than that, I would highly recommend this course as a Table B elective - an easy A+.
I love Professor Garrison! The tests are straight from ppts. Attending class is not mandatory, but he will give you hints about the tests throughout his lectures, so you don't have to study everything.
Midterm is straight off the slides, so you dont even have to go to class. Studying one or two days for it is more than enough. Essay topic was also very easy
A true gentlemen and a legend. Speaks clearly during lecture and inspired my perspective towards Geography.
Professor Garrison is one of my most respected prof ever. Every minute of the lecture would open up your mind. I learned a lot in this class and grading is fair.
Professor Garrison was an amazing prof! I took GEO210 with him and the course was pretty interesting and the class was broken down into 3 tests and an essay, all worth 25%. He genuinely wants his students to do well. He's clear with the way his class is structured and will always give you feedback.
By far, one of my favourite professors at Ryerson. He is always caring and never hesitates to help you. Overall, he made the course fun and enjoyable.
One of the best profs at Ryerson. Really glad I took this class. The class isn't hard especially because the prof genuinely wants you to do well. As long as you study the midterms are straightforward. The essay was marked fair just put some effort into it. Definitely recommend taking any class with prof Garrison
Patient and Inspirational. Always explain clearly during lecture and kept the course enjoyable.
Garrison is great! If you take a GEO course, take it with him. Exams are all multiple and all almost word for word out of his lectures. Essay was straightforward and expectations were the clearest I've ever seen. Content can sometimes be dry but if you're looking for an interesting course and easy A, this is it. You won't regret it :)
Patient during lecture. Gives great feedback when asking for essay criteria. A hidden gem and gentlemen at Ryerson.
Had both an educational and chill class with professor Garrison. The class was asynchronous and consisted of long PowerPoints with voice annotations. The quizzes and essay were easy and graded fairly. Highly recommend it to anybody who wants to boost their GPA, learn about Toronto or want a nice change of pace.
I took geo 110 with him this semester and hes hands down one of the best profs. His tests are super easy like literally word for word from the slides and hes very clear as to what he wants in the assignment. I would definitely take him again. Amazing prof!!
Tests are word for word on slides and hes very clear on what must be done on assignments. Although lectures were slides w audio, he was very enthusiastic and made the course enjoyable. I hope to have him again
Very nice professor overall and graded fairly on all assessments. Easy A.
I enjoyed this class and found Professor Garrison to be very engaging and you could tell he really cares for his students and is passionate about what he teaches. There were no live lectures, all pre-recorded, so you could watch them whenever you had time. The 3 tests were all very straight forward and taken from the lectures which was great.
Great course and great professor. He discussed very interesting topics and provides great links and information about what he discusses. Although, he takes time to upload classes and assignment. But that can easily be overlooked because of the asynchronous format. Would take a course with him again.
During COVID-19, Prof Garrison uploaded his lecture as PPTX(with audio), no prerecord. There is one essay on the midterm(if my memory didn't mess up), and three or four quizzes in total but most of the answers you can find directly from his PowerPoint. As an international student, it is an easy bird for me ;)
He is the best professor I had this semester. Always demonstrate clear materials during lectures with pre-recorded audio. This is certainly a great course to take.
really tough grader and did not like his teaching
He is truly the best prof ever. Always provide excellent lecture and engaging.
Geo 110 with him and was the easiest/best elective Ive ever taken. It was online and we didnt have zoom meetings he just posted the slide shows with a recording and you can look at it whenever. 2 tests worth 15% each straight off the slides and 1 40% paper- not difficult, 30%- final again from the slides directly. Didnt use the textbook. BEST!!!
He's one of the easiest profs I've had. Textbook isn't necessary. Paper was 40% of the mark but really straight forward. Same with the midterms and final - just study the slides and you'll be perfectly fine. He's also really accommodating. If I can take another class with him I would.
This Prof is a real gem, took a subject I thought would be boring and made it fun. I learned so much about the city I live in, and the all the tests were 100% fair, all from his lectures. Thank you Prof Garrison
Nice prof but lectures can be a little long..
One of the nicest professors you will ever meet. A true gentleman.
Prof Garrison is a true gentleman and the best prof ever.
Professor Garrison taught me things about a city I have lived in my entire life that I never knew before. He made pre-recorded lectures interesting and he is very passionate about what he teaches. The class grading criteria was 2 tests, one exam, and one research paper. Research paper was marked very fairly and the tests and exam were very fair.
He is AMAZING!!! I took it online, so his lectures were just powerpoints with audio attached to it. All of his exams are based on his PowerPoints, and he even mentions what will be on the test. The paper was super easy as well, it was on climate change. Overall, a very easy class with minimal effort, and he truly is a wonderful professor.
This class is a total joke - he doesn't have readings or a text book. Exam questions are copy paste from the slides in M/C or T/F format. The majority of your mark comes from 1 research essay which is the only real piece of work in the class, and is relatively simple to get an A on as well. If you're looking for the dumbest course ever, this is it.
Although online classes made it hard for us to interact (specially because I took this as an asynchrnous summer class), prof did his best to communicate through D2l. He posted lectures with audio and everything on the exams was from the lectures. Super easy, just make sure to watch the videos he links in his ppts.
Had him in an asynchronous course. Posted audio lectures that were very easy to follow and made a somewhat boring topic a little less boring. You could tell he's very passionate about what he teaches and gives great examples that are easy to follow. His exams were super easy and all based on his powerpoints, so read them and you're good!
This is by far the easiest class I have taken at Ryerson. This prof is a gem and his lecture was amazing. The content was very organized and he also responds to emails very quickly. I would definitely recommend this professor. If you get him don't ever switch. By far the best prof in Ryerson!!!!!!!! Also, no participation marks were needed!!!
Also had Professor Garrison for GEO210 as well and he's honestly one of the best professors I've had so far at my time here. Tests are very straight-forward and from the PowerPoints and the essay was marked very fairly. If I had the option to have him again for another liberal, I would take it 10 times out of 10. He's a real gem! :)
Professor Garrison is a true gem. Multiple choice tests that are actually on the content taught makes this class incredibly easy to get a good grade in. Professor Garrison is accessible and overall knowledgeable. 10/10. Bird course with minimal effort required other than cntrl F.
I wasn't a fan of geographic stuff, but I somehow love geography after taking a course with him. BEST PROF!!!
I didn't think I would enjoy Geography this much. Prof Garrison manages to make even boring topics fun. Hoping to take more courses with him in the future!
Easy class, Professor Garrison is great.
He is such a caring professor. So accommodating and genuinely wants to help his students do well. I was never really interested in geography, but he made me enjoy learning the content!
this class was shocking. there were so many heavy assignments. Highly disappointed in myself and everyone. :(
no textbook so you have to attend all lectures and take notes. a few assessments and all worth a lot.
Unexpectedly disappointed. Took this class as an extra credit because it was considered a bird course, however was immediately disappointed. He marks hard on the final papers, and does not give any feedback. You have to attend all classes to get a good mark.
Best professor ever. I had him for multiple classes and in each class I always did well because he is very clear. His midterms is whatever is on the PowerPoints. There are no surprises. Anyone who says he is hard did not show up for class, so they didn't hear his hints and tip for doing well on the assignments. Kind, Caring, and Respectful
What an amazing experience taking prof Garrison's course.. This is a prof that wants you to learn and do well in his course. If you do the lectures and do the readings you will do really well because that's how the course is set up. Final paper was 40% but the grading criteria was super clear and the subject was interesting! Best prof at Ryerson
One of the best professors, and a well-organized class with good lectures and clear marking criteria. I recommend taking his class cause it's good, especially for elective it will be easy mark just study and do your work you'll pass.
Professor understands how to convey the course in a way that allows students to be able to attend when they prefer. Get ready to read as the lectures are long but very informative. The lecture slides have audio files attached to them and make the learning experience more interactive. Great professor and overall a great experience.
I took both GEO 106 and 110 with him simultaneously. For 106 it is graded by a midterm (20%) final (40%) -non cumulative- and paper (40%) on liveability. The tests are extremely fair and directly from the slides (no textbook). The paper required genuine effort to do well, but was straight forward (only reason he has a 3 for difficulty). Effort = A+
I took both GEO 106 and 110 with him simultaneously. For 110 it is graded by two non-cumulative midterms (15% each), a comulative final (30%) and paper (40%). Tests are 80% from slides, 20% defintions from textbook. The paper required genuine effort to do well, but was straight forward (only reason he has a 3 for difficulty). Effort = A+/Great Prof
Really good prof and really easy course
Dr. Garrison is an absolutely amazing professor! His exams were super easy and were straight from the PowerPoints and textbook. The research paper assignment was also very easy. His lectures were also really entertaining as it is clear that he was enthusiastic about the topics taught. Would highly recommend this professor to anyone taking GEO110!
garrison was a legend. best teacher for geo 110.
This guy is real one the best human being on tmu campus great professor but even better human being because he really try to understand your situation and help regardless. Regarding course material do the slides and you are good to go. Fairly hard marker when it ces to essay and grammar, but still best Geo Prof ever .
I was doing bad in the class originally and I went to his office hours, told me what I did wrong and how to improve. Raymond is an amazing lecturer and makes content interesting would definitely take his class again!
attend all his classes, he tells you exactly whats on the tests - which are really easy. be thorough with all the slides, he can ask really specific questions from them. one downside was that he never replies to emails, but he answers questions after class and seems really nice. hes also kinda on the quiet side so sit in the front
One of the best profs at TMU. Test and exam questions were mainly from the slides (review them regularly and you're guaranteed a good mark) with a few from the textbook. The essay was easy and he was very helpful and quick to answer questions through email. Attendance wasn't mandatory but he did give hints to questions that would be on the test.
Honestly a super great prof. His tests are super easy as long as you pay attention and study the basics. This class is pretty interesting and not difficult at all, just felt like a review from the previous high school geo knowledge I had. Overall a 10/10.
Took this course as it was claimed to be easy (that is if you take it online). I am taking it in person and although the prof is very nice the test are pretty much all memorization. The lecture slides are over 50 slides per week and the prof just reads off the slides. It is hard to know what to study for the in-person test as there are many slides.
Super easy to pass this course, all you need to do is study the lecture slides and videos for the 2 quizzes and final. Research paper is very easy, he lays out the instructions very straightforward. He doesn't test on the readings which was really nice.
Easy course, just attend class note down what he says will show up on the exam, watch the vids and read the slides. Easy paper, just follow his instructions and he'll give you an awesome grade. Easy course with an awesome professor who actually likes what he does.
GO TO THE LECTURES! He tells you what you'll be tested on and which slides to ignore. He's a very educated professor with good teaching abilities and interesting points of view. He's very kind and accommodating to his students. He definitely made this my favourite elective to take thus far. Easy A if you attend class and study a bit!
This guy is amazing! He knows you're taking this class as a GPA booster, and he will not disappoint. Tests and final are right out of his slides, word for word, and some videos he shows in class. Paper was doable. Does not reply to emails very quickly but very approachable in class. Love this prof!
He's just so sweet, nice, caring, attentive, considerate and more ahah! He's such a nice easy FAIR marker, and his exams are actually reasonable and interesting, like everything you study on his lecture slides/what he says in person or what he says in audio during online classes, plus the textbook is on the exams!! Which is rare, lol 10/10 easy A!!
Professor Garrison is so amazing!!! He's very kind and caring, and focuses on his students' success. During his lectures, he says what will be on the tests and what won't. His teaching approach is entertaining and the class is always fun. My favourite elective!
Magic Raymond
Great lectures and interesting course content. However I felt that the class did not prepare me well for the final assignment, particularly the analysis of neighbourhood data in evidence of gentrification. He does not ask specific dates on tests, but he does ask other trivial details. Ex. who said x. Still, the tests were easy overall.
Good professor, but you basically cannot get perfect on his tests/final (in person exams), without buying the textbook. They're also based on the lectures, so you basically have to show up to every session or you might miss key info. The research paper was also graded more harshly compared to other professors. Don't count on it boosting your grade.
Great professor, really wanted students to succeed. Grades were based on 2 midterm tests and an exam (all MC) and a research paper with clear guidelines that is marked leniently.
I loved having him as a professor, and I'm taking another course with him this year. His lectures are really fun, and the slides are very thorough but easy to understand. Also, the content he teaches is reeeeally interesting and I feel like I actually learned something. I recommend this professor to everyone, no matter which course!!!!
You must attend his lectures if you want a good grade. He tells you exactly what will be on the exam/midterms. For the essay, add a ton of statistics, evidence from around the world, examples he mentions in class. I got a 95 on the essay. I used flash cards to study for the midterms and the exam.
Very good Professor. Deeply passionate about the content and while the content itself isn't the most interesting in the world, he definitely puts in the effort to try and make it interesting for everyone. Lectures are pretty dense, but he will tell you in no uncertain words what he will test you on when it comes up in the lecture. Would take again.
He is a very nice prof and approachable to answering any questions. His lectures are easy to understand and talks about very interesting stuff we haven't knew before.
This teacher is the best, if you have the chance to take it with garrison please do. His exams are super easy if you pay attention to the lecture slides, he responds to emails fast and is super caring to students. he is the best prof ever.
Really nice prof, probably top 3 I've had at TMU. Graded based off of two multiple choice tests both worth 20%, a group project worth 30% and an essay based off of your project topic worth 30%. Lectures are long but he drops hints as to what will and won't be on tests so try to come to class when possible so you're not studying more than needed.
Everyone in the reviews is lying. This course is extremely content heavy for an elective. He drops hints for questions on tests but like four out of an 80 slide lecture. He just reads off the slides. He's not bad but lectures are boring. Pls save yourself and take an easier liberal that won't take you hours to cram for.
I loved this class! He says often what is on the test but make sure to understand everything unless he says to ignore it. Everything you need to know is on the slides. There are 2 tests, 1 paper, and a final exam- all fairly easy as long as you study a bit. As a nursing student, I had a lot on my plate and did not find this class to be much extra
I finished with a 4.0 so i think my opinion is unbiased when I say this guy is not it. I've taken 3 other lower liberals and this was my most tedious one. So many flipping slides in a lecture omg. He reads off them. Tells you what might be on the exam every once in a while which is good ig. Never answered one of my emails yippee. Too much effort
Exceptional professor. The course was graded on 3 tests and one final essay. The majority of questions are directly from the slides and textbook. Highly recommend!
Content was easy to understand but there was just a lot of it, and sometimes he can get slightly boring.
Another bird course - should be a free A- or A with minimal effort. For A+ you need a decently-researched paper and more than 3 hours of studying before the test. Grading for the group presentation is very generous.
Best prof for this course.
Professor Garrison is the best! His lectures are engaging although sometimes it can get a bit off-topic but keep in mind the lectures are essential since the assessment is mostly tests and a final exam. You also have to know the bolded terms from the textbooks. There's one midterm essay paper and it's easy to do well on.
He knows his stuff which makes the lectures interesting
He knows his stuff which makes the lectures really interesting
He is the best instructor I've ever had . You can get A+ with a little bit of effort and discipline . He's a super helpful prof !
Great prof, he explains the materials very clearly and highlights some contents which he will test in the tests exams. He gives enough time for the research essay. His tests and exams are simple and straightforward, and not hard as long as you study the materials. He's respectful and caring. Not a tough grader! highly recommend Prof Garrison!
My GOAT. Easiest class known to mankind. You don't have to put immense effort to get an A+
I finished with a 91/100 (4.33), so take my opinion. The presentations are 60-80+ slides per week, which most students found difficult to revise. If you have a difficult semester, this will add to it (study-wise) He does tell you 20% of what will be on the exams throughout the lectures by straight up telling you. Raymond is unreachable by email :)
The most enjoyable class I've ever taken
The GOAT of geo. 2 tests, 1 essay, and a group project. All three are easy to complete. He tells you the majority of topics which will be on the test so if you just attend class its essentially studying for the MC tests
Just show up to every lecture. His slideshows are very long, but easy to follow along. Nothing complicated. He will point out topics asked on tests. Marking is easy (just be detailed) and his tests are fine, just multiple choice heavy. This course requires textbook reading for terms. I never did it. Just treat the course with respect (1hr study).
He is the best . Easy A+
Easy class if you stay on top of the slides and videos. Use unstuck AI alongside the other resources for efficient study prep. The prof is approachable and gives clear instructions.
best prof. easy exams based straight from the lectures. cant say enough nice things about this man
I love this man and am sad I can't take more of his classes. He always says what slides may be on the test or not, and he's genuinely interested about what he teaches. 210 was super informative even if you don't care about Geo (lots about climate change, fossil fuels, natural disasters, etc.). EASY tests. Sometimes readings aren't mandatory.
One of the best profs I've ever had. Going to lecture is very helpful bc he says exactly what's gonna be on the tests which are extremely easy. He's also very accommodating and caring to his students.
Easy A, I took it for a lower liberal course. Such an amazing prof honestly.
The easiest A+ I've ever gotten. Tests 1 and 2 are extremely straightforward, and all questions are based on the slides and terms he lists on D2L. Essay was easy you can just ykw most of it and you'll be fine (I got an 84). The final is the same as the first two tests in difficulty. Highly recommend to first year students easy on course load
Raymond's test content is very easy & he gives very large hints of content/answers as long as you attend lectures. Lectures are quite interesting, though at times the topic is boring. As for the paper, it is graded a bit tougher, but possible to get a high mark as long as you follow his tips and explain yourself thoroughly. Overall easy bird course
Honestly best prof ever for this class. His audio lectures are super helpful, and tests 1 and 2 are extremely easy if you go through all the lectures a few times. Essay was a cool concept and is marked pretty easy. Highly recommend taking the course with him through chang.
Very personable, cares about student success, engaging teaching style. Highly recommend.
Professor Garrison is very understanding and grades fairly. He casually drops helpful hints for tests during lectures, and the class feels easy-going. His notes cover everything you need. Classes run twice a week, but one day is silent reading instead of a full lecture. Highly recommend!
He's a great prof. If you go to class he'll tell you exactly whats on the test and exam. Engaging lectures, only two hours a week and an easy mark.
Fantastic professor, make sure to attend all his lectures as he always gives hints on future tests or assignments!
Raymond Garrison is the type of professor you want for your courses. He cares about you and your grade and tries to make life easier. The one thing that this guy is best known for is his recommendation to attend his lectures as he tends to give out hints throughout the readings on what he will most likely ask you on tests or final exams. W prof
1st year students take him, it makes your course load so much easier. he specifically says what's gonna be on the test in class, so attend if you don't have a friend to tell you. Tests are exactly what he says they're gonna be. The class is so easy and interesting too. Amazing professor
He seems intimidating at first, but when you attend his class more, he makes jokes and tries to engage you in the content. He's just a guy who loves his job. A lot of professors don't answer questions during tests, but he will. Tests are easy and doable if you honestly just look at the slides. Sad I don't have any other courses with him :(
He is a really good professor. Highly recommend.
He's an amazing prof, highly recommend him, I'm a first year and found his class interesting and was actually invested. He talks fast sometimes but he also answers questions or repeats himself if needed, and makes little jokes to make it engaging, and you can tell he loves his job. Also gives out hints to tests, exam and even tips on our essay.
Fantastic prof
love this guy, easy tests but you have to study, nice one
Engaging lectures and easy tests. Best elective
You don't need to do the readings if you show up and take notes. Mans a legend
Very simple and easy course, much easier to understand then geo110 by the same prof. Attendance is not mandatory but is very helpful as he gives lots of hints to what questions would be on tests. Tests are all MC and honestly light attention during lectures and rereads of slides is enough when it comes to studying.
Superb prof. He is passionate about his job. Also very easy tests and exam. He tells you what's going to be asked on the test, just listen carefully. He is very nice and respectful. Excellent prof.
I love him. His tests and exams are all multiple choice. You just need to study his slides and watch his videos to do well. He's a relatively easy marker on essays too.
Hamdolillah
Great Prof, would take again.
The lectures were very interesting. He always adds anecdotes and additional interesting information. During the lecture he often explains how he might form a question about a certain topic and sometimes will outright tell us the question that may appear on the test. Tests and exams are easy but the essay is worth 40% so its important to do well.
