He is a good teacher, however, he expects WAY too much. Tons of information given to you and you must deal with it for the tests.
ditto
ditto
ditto. study like a madman and you can get an A--averages on tests are about a 65 but he grades on a curve.
he's a nice guy, kinda like your grandpa. Yes he gives a lot of quizzes but they are curved heavilly
horrible. i dropped this class two weeks into it. he expects WAY too much on quizzes.
The worst class I have ever taken. Not only does he expect too much, but you will not learn anything!!!!!
Very unclear, moves quickly. When I asked for more clarity after class he repeated the lecture almost verbatim. I don't suggest this professor.
awesome teacher!knows a lot&knows how to teach.you have to take a lot of good notes in this class&attend it regularly unless you've got a friend who can get you class notes. If you want to know about earthquakes etc. this prof. will teach you a lot.
i agree! awesome teacher! He knows how to make you interested in class! Very interesting material! You'll learn so much in his class!
gives semi interesting lectures, but is an extremely hard grader. Lots of quizes and about four tests...final is cummulative.
He is the most disgruntled person I have ever met. Earth to Nackoney - u r not a meteorologist, stop acting like people take ur class for any other reason than they are forced to as a core! Stay away from him at all costs - he shames Loyola's staff.
I took this class and dropped it after 5 weeks. he expects way too much from students, and his once a week quizzes are only easy if you really study for them. theyre only on 3 lectures at a time but he makes them hard somehow.
The first entry for this teacher says it all. Expects way too much, weekley quizzes are semi-okay if you study really hard for them, tests REALLY suck... etc.
Echo the Shame on Loyola quote. Not enough space here to list his faults as lecturer/instructor, but he's petty and small-minded to boot. If you are a science major, tell him and you'll get an A. Liberal artists and social scientists bewar
Shockingly bad! Meandering, inarticulate lectures, ridiculous expectations. R.N. has taken it upon himself to inflict misery on as many hapless undergraduates seeking to fulfill science req's as possible. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
While you may think you understand what's going on in class, once test and quiz time roll around you begin to wonder if you were in the correct class during lecture. Nice guy but horrible class...DON'T TAKE IT!!
Hard for sure!! Two question quizzes require a ton of studying and the tests are worse...but he is a good teacher and you will learn alot. Even though its a pre rec and really it doesn't matter.
tests were impossible to complete and subjective...the quizzes were graded in an unfair manner...you could not predict how well you would do from one to the next...overall, one of the worst professors i have had thus far.
took him a few semesters ago just 2 finish up core, but dropped it after the first test...anal grader..if u're not very science savvy, then u're kinda screwed..nice guy though..but it gets harder and harder
great guy with great sense of humor. difficult class
I was getting high grades on my quizzes and then the test came. He is very vague and broad with his questions, but wants specific answers that have to be exactly what he wants. I am so dumb for taking this class.
Funny guy, but expects too much from his students. His quizzes and exams are from his lectures, so you don't have to buy the $100 book. Take good notes and pray you have an understanding of the material to do well in the class.
I loved science-before I took him!He is a hard greader, impossible to talk to, and an awful lecturer.OMG, am I glad the class is over or what? DO NOT TAKE HIM!His quizes are hard;u never know what he's asking for, and he is so eager to take off the poi
Very difficult! Gives weekly quizzes that require you to have study for them for more than an hour! His test are impossible to complete! You will never know how well you did because he grades very unfairly.
"Shall we say..."(Nackoney's famous line)...RUN!!
The prof is hard but he's entertianing and does demonstrations for the class. If yoou actually study a little you'll do well.
His tests and quizzes are really difficult, but this was still the most interesting class I took at Loyola. If you are more interested in learning than getting a good grade, then take this class
He's a horrible teacher, unfair grader, VERY rude when you ask for help, adn the class is pointless. HATED every minute of it... do not take him unless you want to screw up your GPA.
The class was kinda hard (weekly short answer quizzes and essays on all tests) but I think you could do worse for core physics credit. I never did any of the reading, but if you want to do that, you need to go to class and take good notes.
Difficult quizzes, nitpicky grading, tests that cover material that isn't covered fully in class...what more could you want? Horrible class, don't take it or any of his classes 'cause it will just end up lowering your GPA and faith in teachers in gene
He's RIDICULOUSLY ignorant. He is soooo detailed about everything and lacks any sense of teaching skills.
Why do it to yourself? Do you think you can pull it off? You can't, just save yourself the time. He shows lots of examples, and tries to teach it to you, but it's just too damn hard in the end. If the grading was easier, it would be a good class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This is the worst class I have ever taken. The quizzes are really hard and do not cover what was discussed in class. You can take the best notes in the world and you will still fail the quizzes.
he is a funny man--someone you want as an uncle-not a prof. he is very picky about grading and will not give you the benefit of the doubt. the weekly quizzes are as hard as the tests and require lots of studying. not an easy a for core!!!!
dude sux..i dunno y he's like the only teacher @ lakeshore who teaches the physical trek...it's not fair...our school could do soo much better in finding another teacher..he's picky as hell..i mean we're not all scientists!!!!
a great astronomy course. the quiz/exam questions came directly from lecture. There's a lot covered in detail but as long as you can memorize specific information you'll do fine. you needed like an 85% for an A. not a gimme but totally worth the effort.
I should've listened to my roommate when he said DO NOT take the class. Its the hardest class ever. I studied for over a week in advance for a test and got a D. He expects us to answer questions like scientists. It will mess up your GPA
METEOROLOGY: He's hilarious. I think he eased up a little. He grades hard but drops the two lowest quizzes so that helps a lot. I liked him. The class is useful. He teaches the class keeping in mind that not everyone is a science major.
Hard grader, but very cool. If your willing to work, he can teach you alot. Lectures are excellent, and he is very funny. Great person, tough professor. Take him if you like a challenge. Getting an A is hard, but far from impossible.
It is easy to do well in this class if you go, take good notes, and study them ALL for the tests. The tests are long and mostly essay, but they are fair. He's a nice guy, very helpful and understanding of different situations. Good curve too.
Still teaching and shouldnt' be!! I took weather for my science core and I dreaded every moment of it!! Worst teacher on the planet!! Avoid him at all costs!! You cannot get in touch with him anytime and if you miss one class, you're doomed!!
This man is a very educated professor, but has a difficult time relating to his students. His lectures are entertaining, yet the exams are quite difficult. He expects answers to be exact--yet they aren't impossible. Not an easy A, but you'll learn.
Nice, funny guy, a really awesome person, however IMPOSSIBLE to get an A. His quizes are rediculous, he expects you to apply his teachings, when he hasn't told you how. Tests are easier than quizzes. Awesome person, but I will never take him again.
The only science class I had 2 take...SO MANY REGRETS! H
he thinks he is picasso or something with the amount of drawings he does, it just makes you lost. he is the worst grader and has 10 quizes on top of the hardest test i have ever taken. i am surprised i passed.
Earth-Sci Changing Planet.......he's okay as a teacher, yet a very funny man. just show up to class and take a ton of notes...he likes to draw diagrams. expect a weekly quiz and 2 major tests and a final...he grades hard. your answers have to be precise.
Meh. The guy is histerical in some of things he does but if you ask me, on tests and quizzes he honestly asks for too much. The tiniest, smallest mistake in an answer will cause him to rip it apart. Pretty much the only downside.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! He is so hard and so unclear. His tests are hard and the final is cumulative and worth 40% of your grade!
i don't know what all of you are talking about because he is my favorite teacher at loyola so far. he keeps it interesting and although the tests and quizzes are hard, he is fair and you actually learn something.
He is a really good teacher, sometimes his lectures are a little boring but he makes the class fun with his examples. He also gives a major curve so you will most defintely pass with a B or C TAKE THE CLASS!!
I also do not know what the other people are talking about. He is one of my favorite professors at Loyola. His lectures are like an older relative telling an extremely interesting story. If you think he is too hard you then you really shouldn't be in college because you're a retard.
Earth Sci.DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK.You won't ever use it or NEED to use it.You'll be more confused w/ it.All of his tests are based off of his lecture notes.Harder class, but Nackoney is hilarious! He makes the class interesting. He does ask for very precise answers on quizzes and tests. Lots of notes!
Nackoney is an awesome professor. Ofcourse physics is hard, however he is always willing to help students. Grades consist of quizes (about once a week)(15%), 2 exams (20%-25%), and a comprehensive final (40%. Take him!
Alright, Nackoney's ratings are looking grim so far but he really isn't that bad. He doesn't actually assign reading, there are just quizzes and tests. The tests are something to watch out for though- kind of tricky on the grading.
He is a very good teacher and provides good examples. And it is really easy to get an A. You dont even have to study, except for the final, which isnt bad.
WOW! thats all i can say. no study guide, quiz every week. final is cumulative, no study guide, fill in blank, essay, and is worth 40% of entire course grade. Interesting material though. plus he is a funny guide. Im of average intelligence, but I got "B" Just be prepared to study.
Take his class, "if you wish." It's interesting, yet, sometimes it can get a tad complex- not hard just complex. Just study class notes throughly and it'll be all good.
dont go
I counted he said "if you wish" 17 times in one class
This guy's funny and really nice. If you go to the class and take notes off the board, you probably won't ever even have to crack the textbook.
The subject is hard, but he does a good job of teaching. Just know his lectures and repeat them on the tests, its not that hard.
The material is hard, but he does a good job in teaching it. Just repeat his lectures on the tests and quizes for a good grade.
Whoever said this guy is easy is a big liar. He gives a quiz everyweek and his test are brutual. Then this ***hole wants U to pass his unpassable cumulative final. STAY AWAY if you value your GPA. He WILL bring it down. Learn from my mistake PLEASE don't take him!!!
was super interested in this class, knew everything he lectured on, but still failed most of his quizzes. lame. he is tough but not necessarily caring. went in for extra help a few times and didn't learn more. also lame.
So it may seem like an easy class talking about volcanoes and dinos and other things you learned in the second grade but wait until you get your first quiz back and you got a 1/10 AND you studied. He is a prick that likes to see people fail miserably... stay away at all costs!!!!!!
Great teacher, really knows a lot...Typical grader, u gotta take good notes and read them over...overall good guy and great fun class, i cant wait to take him next semester later everyone and GO BEARS!
A 1.9 for easiness? C'mon, I know he's kind of nitpicky, but he grades on a HUGE curve. Go to class, take notes, and you'll be fine.
not a good teacher, hard tests on material he makes easy in class... it doesnt match up, i would not take him EVER again
People have been saying that it's a hard class. It's not too hard if you take good notes. The lectures can be boring sometimes, and he can go off talking to himself arguing with himself. He has a great sense of humor, and really knows the material. I would definitely take him again.
dont take this class unless your looking for a hit to your GPA... if you go for help he will laugh at you and then say "try harder" what an a**! humm.. wish he was a little more considerate and wish that he wrote better tests... dont take him if you can avoid it
Class was ok tests were really hard. He was pretty nice about help though if you went to his office hours
do not take this class unless you really want to learn more about planets and the solar system. it would help a lot if you had some background knowledge on this stuff. You never know what he wants you to know for quizzes and tests. Good thing he curves his tests and quizzes. If you need to take something to fill core, don't take this class!
Very intelligent teacher. The tests are graded very hard but he has huge curves. Go to class and take notes. He outlines everything for you. Quizzes weekly. Overall, kind of difficult to get a good grade. Take it if you are interested in astronomy
This course was an absolute horror. I don't care what anyone says about how good notes will save you on quizz and test. His quizzes were extremely hard for no apparent reason. His test were also difficult. He's so specific about every little detail. He'll dock points for not including something irrelevant. Don't take this course!
Great teacher! He is hilarious. He makes an otherwise dry subject interesting and challanging.
Great professor. He's very clear about the information covered in class and to what detail he wants you to understand it. He presents everything very well and explains it even better. I've taken him for two diff Nat Sci classes and I learned so much in both of them. However, you will have to work hard, but it's worth the extra work.
Ok...he is funny...but his tests/quizes are hard. He wants every detail...it's crazy!
Wow, he is a funny guy but his tests ans quizzes aren't something that put a smile on my face. He wants EVERY SINGLE DETAIL on his essay questions and if you miss one point, you basically get no points. Luckily he has a huge curve but still, not an easy class to succeed in. Low B if you study hard. High D or middle C if you slack off.
He explains things really well. Quiz every week worth 15% of your grade. Two tests...one 20% and other 25% and a 40% cumulative final. His tests/quizzes are all short answer/essay with some fill in the blank. He is really specific on grading. Don't take him if you don't like to take notes. Classes are solely lectures and tests are directly from not
sooo hard!!! you never use the book, and all u need to do is take notes. he's clear when it comes notes and material but when it comes to taking a quiz or a test he asks for to much detail!! its super hard to remember all that!!
Firstly, don't waste your money on the textbook for this class because you will NEVER use it. Attendence isn't mandatory but his lectures are VERY important and you won't pass if you don't go. Usually has a quiz on Fridays that can be graded very harshly but he's very interesting and very funny in class.
Very unfair in terms of grading, quizzes are disjointed, lectures are somewhat interesting but too much info all at once. States that he curves a 50% at C just to show you how hard he is. Take it from a senior magna****laude and near a 4.0, don't take this guy if you can take someone else!
completely disregard harsh comments previous to this. Nackoney is so enthusiastic about his class, he brings in examples to not only tell you but SHOW you what things are. he tells stories and funny jokes. Take notes and its a great class. he's really nice and always offers help if needed. its not an easy A but you have to be really mental to fail
"basically..." 41 times. in a 50 minute class.
This is a great teacher, he is extremely smart and is able to teach the class with clarity. I think the reason why people do not like this teacher is because they were expecting an easy A, something they didnt need to work for, so of course they did poorly. Go to class, take good notes, and study those for the exams, youll pass with flying colors
He was a good teacher, and had a huge curve. He grades tough and we never used the book. It wasn't an easy class, but it was not extremely difficult. He was pretty organized and seemed very knowledgeable about earth science. His tests and quizzes are hard, but as I said there's a pretty big curve. Good class overall :)
Horrid. The man draws abstract images on the board with no commentary and expects you to interpret and explain them. I spent most of my time trying to decipher his handwriting. He does not use the textbook or outside sources. Have fun using wikipedia or google to study for the tests.
VERY HARD! I studied my butt off and only got a A-. He expects you to explain everything he says in class on the tests/quizzes. You don't really need to read the book, but taking good notes is a much. Interesting subject and he is a nice guy, but an extremely difficult class.
For your own grades, please don't take this class. Once I counted the number of times he said basically in 1 class period and it was 112. The class average on the exam was a 55% and he was okay with that. His grading scale is weird so you never know where you stand. Only grades based on the notes. Boring. Don't take this class.
The class is not as hard as everyone says. Tests and quizzes based on CLASS NOTES ONLY. Please do not buy the book, because the book does not word things the way he wants his answers to be worded. Ya, the class averages may be 50-60%, but at the end, he curves to the point that a 55% turns into the average grade. If you get above 70%, you're fine
His exams are VERY hard. He grades really tough! He'll take off points if you miss one small detail in your essay. You basically have to write down everything he says in class. He takes a long time to return exams. Quiz every week, very hard to get a 100%. Only thing good is that he curves. If you're looking for an easy core class, do NOT take him.

Dr. Nackoney is a really nice guy. he's always avail. for help whenever you need it. quiz every week, graded 1-10, 5/6=C, 7=B, 8-10=A. about 10 quizzes total, TWO are dropped. 2 tests and a final. final cumulative, but easier than the tests. he's not as bad as people say. study notes almost word for word. quizzes are main concepts. curve BIG in en
I've taken a few of his classes for core and they're all very detailed lectures that you MUST attend to take notes. If you just memorize the notes and spit them back to him on the tests, you'll get no lower than a B+. No homework, just weekly quizzes that he curves like crazy. Just memorize the notes and you'll be fine. He's funny as hell too.
horrible, if he didn't curve grades everyone would fail. he has no clue how to teach
Very hard class Stay away from it if possible!
This class sucked. I studied very very very hard and still got a C in the dumb class. He does curve everything a lot but only because if he didnt everyone would have a F in this class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! It will ruin your GPA!
This class blew! The professor is hilarious but no one in the class knew what he was talking about half the time. Good luck to all! There are weekly quizzes, 2 tests which are curved and a final which is also curved.
Dr. Nackoney is one of the greatest professors I have had. He is an extremely intelligent man who knows how to teach. If all professors were like him - students would be getting their money?s worth.
I was very intimidated by the fact that I would be taking physics this year as part of my major. Science is not my strong point. He gives quizzes about every week which consist of 2 questions. They're rough. To be honest, it's a hard class and it takes a lot of studying, but Prof N does mean well and he can be pretty adorable during lectures :)
Tries to be funny. Not good at being objective when teaching. He's very confusing, cannot write at all. He can't make himself clear. LIkes to say the same phrases all the time. Tests q's seem out of nowhere, uses random parts in book and tests you on stuff he only covered once at a random point in class, no other sources. Avoid if possible!
Prof Nackoney is a hard strict grader. His expectations are very very high, but they relax as the semester goes on. He says he will curve at the end and we shall see. This course though really does focus on the exact details and so a huge amount of work and memory is needed to succeed.
Ok. Dr Nackoney is not an EASY professor, but that doesnt mean he isnt a good professor. If you want a blow-off class, then dont take it. To those who dont think he is helpful, you havent asked. He is a great professor who cares about his students- pull your weight and you wont have a reason to complain.
Everyone in my class loved him. He's really funny and very helpful if you ask him questions. For NTSC 113, he has weekly quizzes...They're annoying because he asks broad questions and looks for specific answers but they're helpful when you're trying to boost your grade up (it's better than having 3 tests).
