He is a good teacher but a very hard grader

He is truly one of the best English professors out there. If u have a question he will asnwer it. If you wanna learn sumthing about English and then some, this is the professor you take.

I dont like english very much, but he wasn't bad. Very nice and helpful he's interested in what the students want.

i really don't why everyone is rating him so hard. he a great teacher the only time he is hard is if you just don't do your work. He spends lots of time on explaining any confussion one might have. He doesn't really sweat it if you turn work in late, he wants you to turn it in is the key thing.

I LOVE MR. ORKWIS. He is the BEST English Professor by far. He helps you in anyway possible, and I learned a lot from his class. As long as you come to class and show effort, you will do fine. Not a lot of work but not very little work also. The class is interesting and I really enjoyed it.

His class is the very best class. The book is the best one I have seen. He is a very good teacher. He was always willing to help. We always knew where we stood in the class. HE was more than generous to the class as a whole. He is the ONLY one to take English with.

I really enjoyed his class. I had him for Eng.111, and I learned so much from him. The only thing you need to know about his class is, you must do your work and don’t sleep in class. He does grade hard, but as long as you do every assignment he gives there is no way that you will fail his class.

Professor Orkwis is an extremely professional teacher. However, the first thing he said to my class was "I am a really tough grader." So, i would recomend this teacher only to students who are willing to put in 95% effort or you will fail his class.

He is extremely good and professional. However, he is very difficult with grammar and punctuation on papers.

Those who can't do teach. I think Orkwis falls under this category. That being said he is still a good teacher. However the man does not care for you whatsoever. He's incredibly arrogant and self absorbed. Basically a pseudo intellectual at Starbucks with a pretentious attitude. Plus he's a grammar nazi. Only take him if you're strong academically.

Orkwis is strict, nice, caring & loves talking about life, so be prepared. Lots of work overall, but those are serious work that would prepare you for English 101. He's liberal & open-minded compares to other Eng. teachers. Take him only if you're seriously willing to put the effort into your work. If not, don't waste your time. He's the man!

Awesome teacher who is always willing to help! Very professional and will tell you exactly what you do wrong and what you do right. Take this class if you want to learn something. Overall not too hard just do the assigments. It's hard to get an A and thats because he doesen't just gve out grades and you have to work for it.

Professor Orkwis has been one of the most interesting and brilliantteachers I had. He is a rea;;y hard greater indeed, but that really helps a lot. If you get to know him, then you will understand why he is the way he is. Just work hard and put a lot of effort. You will love his class and his knowledge will help you very well in the future.

I wish he taught Eng 111 last semester -.- Mr. Orkwis knows his information & very professional. He does give a lot of work but it really helps you learn something so it's worth your money! He is a real teacher not just a English teacher. He concerns students and trys to find the solutions that really helpful and encourage students. The way he teaches lead you to think and show you where to go. He is the most respectable teacher I've ever had. Of course, he is a hard grader but he doesn't ignore your efforts to add extra points

You HAVE TO take his class! His clsses are so fun and enjoyable. Yea is true that he is a hard grader, but his coments and gradings really help to have a better writting and grammar. He loves to listen to your ideas and coments and you have to have good participation in class. Is a course that will give you an easy A, just work hard :D

Great teacher, if you take school seriously. About one 2-3 page paper due per two weeks. About 5-6 papers total for the class and one 10 page research paper at the end of the semester. Allows you to edit papers after he grades them to get a better grade. Decent amount of work but manageable. Come to class and turn in assignements = Good Grade

If you are a good writer the class will be pretty easy. There's around 7 papers due and a 10 page research paper. He lets you "revise" everything for a better grade. you're grade comes from the following: 7 essays 40%, final research paper 30%, summaries/quizes 10%, attendence 10%, and online grammer quiz 10%. Possible 10 extra points from effort.

he is smart and nice but hard grader... you will do and learn many things but have to spend much time

....felt like boot camp. very strict. always finding something wring with writing assignments...do not take him unless you have a lot of extra time on your hands to study to for his class.

Prof. Orkwis is an amazing instructor, I learned a lot about being an organized writer after his class. He care a lot about his students and gives them a chances to better a grade. Keeps the class interacted with each other and talks about life. I would highly recommend him as an ENG professor.

Great professor! Responds to emails real quick & is very helpful! He's never in a bad mood. He'll go over any material you don't understand & teach it in many ways to get you to understand. Barely any quizzes or tests. He may be a tough grader but if you want to strive & learn something out of ENF, Mr. Orkwis is someone I would really recommend!

The best professor ever! I've taken ENG111 twice in the past semesters but dropped out of them because my professors weren't very motivating. This time with Professor O, I was motivated to try my best even when I did miss a little over four class days. I highly recommend him. He's the best!

Professor O is an amazing professor. He expects respect from students but he gives us repect as much as he receives it. Attendance is definitely mandatory and you will automatically get an F if you don't show up 4 times. He's very understanding, though. Just do all the homework and be respectful to him, then you will an A.

He is the best professor ever!!! He will help you with your research, and he is a great person to talk to. I am just enjoying this class so much even it requires a bit much work than usual.

Professor O. is awesome. I don't know why people think he is a hard grader, English is my least favorite subject and i've gotten an A on every paper this year. He's a nice guy and wants every student to become a critical thinker. Big 6-10 page paper for final grade but thats what the entire class revolves around the entire year.

Professor Orkwis is one of the best teachers I had this semester. He is always willing to help and his class is not hard at all. Most assignments are done in class, and are very easy. Attendance is very important and participation too. If you show up to class you will have no problem. Do all the blackboard blogs and journals on time!

All i can say that he is a nice guy and all. he is always there for you if you need help but his assignments are a bit tough and you have to work hard and know the basics by your self to pass with an A.

I love professor O! He really cares his students. If I couldn't meet him before taking any other classes, my study was not easy. He really taught me how to be a college student and how to write paper and analyze as a college student. Don't miss him if you really want to learn something useful.

Professor O was amazing professor, I love his class, he was so understanding plus helpful, he doesn't have rude attitude, he was respectful for all of us. His HW was perfect and easy to make it, and he help you with every steps. He doesn't really give a lot of HW plus he gives you extension, and he let you do revision. :)

He is an amazing teacher! When ever you need help he will help you and he will answer any question you have no matter now stupid it is. I would say go to his office hours it really helps and you get a one on one with the teacher and you can build a more personal relationship with him so he's wants to help you because you are trying hard.

Professor O is very helpful and understanding. He gives extensions on assignments too. There's a lot of group work, various small assignments, essays and a final 7-10 research paper. He really wants to help you out and has nice words to say in the classroom. He's tough on grammar mistakes and gives you a half absent if late, but that's about it.

Professor Orkwis is a great teacher! He finds amazing sources for essays and blackboard discussions. The class was very dynamic. You have to work to get a good grade, but you can get any help you need. I do recommend to take his class!

I would recommend Professor Orkwis for students who work hard. He is tough grader on grammar, but you have many chances to improve your grade based on his comments. Several assignments are not hard but you need to revise to get a better grade. Generally, take his class, get easy A if you study seriously.

He doesn't give homework. He gives about 6-7 assignment throughout the semester which r not that hard in my opinion. You also get one chance to do a revision for the assignment for better grades which is due 1 week after that but he will accept later than that. One of my fav profs!!

He is extreamly helpful and resfectful English professor. He cares about his students a lot and wants them to pass his class with high grade so he offers them second chance to get better grade than previous one all the time. Prof. Orkwis is a tough grader but he gives students many chances to revise assginments go get higher scores. He is strict in the class because he wants students to focus on the lectures. Also, he gives us so much homework at beginning, but let us focus on the final papers at the end. If you are hardworking, you will be fine in his class.

If you are looking for an English 111 class take this one. He is some what strict but its because he wants you to pass and do good on the final research paper. He cares a lot about his students and always has office hours after class. His work is tough but its manageable if you do the work and dont procrastinate. The group work is easy also

He is a tough grader and he is very strict. You will have to do a lot of things to pass this class, but don worry, if you try hard, you will probably pass and get A in this class. In the beginning, it is difficult for you to follow and finish all of his assignments, but you will be fine.

Professor Orkwis gave me an unforgettable experience this summer I wish he taught ENG112. The homework was manageable, he gave extensions to the students that needed it, and always went over homework bye breaking us up into groups so we could discuss what we learned. You wont regret taking him for ENG111. !!!<3

Prof. Orkwis is a very good professor in the NOVA. He helps you to understand every detail of writing. He wants you to ask questions about your mistakes to him to improve your writing skills. My grade was A and I learned a lot of things from him.

Weekly homework, somewhat a lot of essays, if you talk to him he'll most likely help you out, lowkey passive-aggressive if you don't ask questions, but gets angry if you ask too many questions. Overall very good teacher. Would take it again.

Professor Orkwis was by far one of the best professors I have encountered. He definitely likes it if you ask questions and are engaging. He can be passive-aggressive but that's only because he cares about you as a person. He gives a ton of homework but nothing too over the top. You will learn a lot in his class. I recommend him.

Prof. Orkwis is the most excellent professor from my previous semester. I enrolled in 18 credits, and I had so much work to do that I couldn't turn in the paper on time. Although, he accepted my late assignment because he wants his student to do their best. Besides, he replied to my emails promptly and gave good feedback on my essays and research.

He yells at students who aren't engaged in class, and I commend him on his actions. He also teaches pretty well.

Professor Orkwis was definitely my favorite teacher last semester. He knows how to teach. He lets the students talk with each other to make friendships with group work. Super understanding if you give a good reason. He loves when you are engaged in the conversation.

Very kind and considerate, will give you extensions if you ask. He is very patient and friendly and the only way to pass this class is if you actually do the work, which isn't hard. He puts up links for websites or videos that guide the students on how to format essays, but the rubric is kinda hard to find.

Hes a genuine human being that is truly invested in teaching and making a difference, hes very light hearted and comical at times and does his best to lighten the atmosphere to where all the students are comfortable in participating in discussions and assignments. I was his student and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

hes a caring professor who wants student to do well. He is pretty talkative and can go off topic and is a little political. he calls people out when they aren't paying attention and gets a little upset when u are in the bathroom for a long amount of time. The work was easy like 4 essays and 2 group projects one of the project is the final exam.

At the start, he had an intense procedure, but came back after only two weeks off because he was so dedicated to teaching us. He was strict on students slacking or sleeping in class, but was understanding if you explained difficult circumstances. Engaging teacher. Essay topics weren't boring. He gave us 100% effort and expected us to give 100% too.

Had fun interesting lectures, and a fair grader. understanding if something comes up as long as you email him, and leaves good comments for you to adjust your work for a higher grade. would highly recommend taking this class, that's my goat fr.
