The class was easy if u went, but the lectures were very boring, which made it hard to go

hes a boring guy but he let me retake my final that I slept thru so a big two thumbs up from me

He really loves what he does and you can see this during the labs when you go on the field trips and are wading in the rivers with him. He's got a lot of knowledge to share, and at times it's tedious, but I remember alot from that class.

Not the easiest prof...can be very boring, but a sweetheart anyway! Just study...a lot!

This guy was hard and incredibly boring but if you went to class and paid attention as hard as it was you would do well on the tests.

This teacher is easy its just the students that sleep and don't pay attention and don't study that think he is hard i study for maybe 15 minutes for each test and have not gotten under a 80 percent if you think this proffessor/class is hard leave IUP

He's a brilliant man and obviously knowledgeable in his feild. You got to study to pass his class and tests.

People act like this guy is so hard, but all you have to do is go to class and take notes. I got an A from him, and I suck at science.

I like that he gives chapter tests every week instead of a few big tests but his tests can be very confusing(like giving choices like a)a,b, and c b)c only c)only c,d, and f) He is also very boring.its hard to get an A even if you do go to class & study

I'll admit it, he's really boring, but he's a good teacher. Go to class, take good notes, study, and you'll do well. He's very nerdy and sweet.

I like him. Taking 20 questioin quizzes every week is a lot easier then big tests. Only complaint...he doesn't answer questions asked in class. He "answers" them, but ends up talking about somethin completely different.

Save yourself the $ and don't buy the book since his tests are based on class lectures (He usually asks like one question from the book which is usually obvious). As long as you take good notes, this class is not hard. I took him for bio. 103 and 104 and got an A with no problem in both classes.

he isn't a bad professor. his class can be boring and he gives a quiz every week, but it's good bc it keeps you studying. he also drops your 3 lowest quiz grades. just study his lecture notes and read the chapters bc he puts 2-3 questions from the book and they are usually not obvious.

OK, so he is REALLY boring. And his tests are REALLY hard. But, he helps you out by having a test every week and not just 3 during the semester. Lab grades boost your final grade. I hardly studied and got a B. No outside work

Dr. Winstead is very nice, and his lectures are very clear. Just write down what he says and study that for the tests. Don't buy the book, though...he only asks one question per test from it, and they're usually pretty obvious anyways. You have to study, but it's not too hard to get an A.

I go to this class every week and all people do is complain that the tests are SOOOO hard. They are NOT! Actually go to class, take notes, pay attention...this is college! You will do fine. I've listened in class, took notes, simply read over the chapter and my notes and got A's on the quizes easily...and I hate biology!

not too bad, the tests every week take away a lot of lecture time which is nice but you need to study for each one. if you go to class when most people don't he'll give extra credit. very willing to help if you need it.

Dr. Winstead knows a lot about a lot and was a great professor. Although he does give a test every week that beats having 2 cumulative tests throughout the semester. His labs are fun you get to go outside and play with "critters." If you put effort forth, it's not hard to get an A or B.

Not a bad class. Had him for Bio 101 as well. Fairly easy tests and labs. Sounds like forest gump but he knows his stuff. Guy is super smart and willing to help ya out. Recomended.

It takes him forever & a year to get to his point. But he is a cute, little old man - very sweet & genuine. Is EXTREMELY willing to help anyone. I loved him. You NEED to study like whoa. I studied the night before like crazy. I knew ALL his lecture notes. Test every 2 weeks so if you do bad on 1 its ok. ?'s CAN BE tricky. Not always. I got an A.

His class was hard, but he likes Biology and you can tell by the way he teaches. Attend class!! You will do better on the quizzes!!! Share a book with someone, 95% of questions come from lectures.

Winstead is alright as long as you go to class and take notes. As long as u pay attention, there shouldn't be any problem. The class isn't too hard and he's willing to answer any and all questions. Only thing I noticed is he tends to spend a long time on one thing which gets kinda boring

Exams can be difficult, but Biology in itself is just a very complex topic. Everything I learned in this class is going to be beneficial to my major, so unless you are oriented toward the Sciences, you might want to take something else to fulfill your LS requirement.

I don't know what most of you are saying... Read the book and notes, get an A. He was a great teacher and very clear. Tests are about 30 Questions and maybe 2 to three that were only in the book, not lecture.

Honestly, he's not that horrible. If you go to class regularly and follow the handouts, you should come out with at least a B. He will usually put at least one question on the test that is information from the book.

I have him for bio 2. He explains everything and gives outlines of the chapters but I hate that his test are 30 questions or less because there's so many points off. He explains things well though, just make sure you go to class to get his drawings and examples.

If you go to class, pay attention and study it is a hard class but isn't that the point of college to be educated at a higher level. Super nice guy and definately loves what he does.

Very easy if you go to class and take notes. Skipping class or not paying attention will absolutely kill you, though. You take 7 exams, and he drops the lowest 2 grades. Loves what he does and is very enthusiastic. Don't talk in his class...he hates that. I'd definitely recommend him to someone that will go to class and do the work. NOT THAT HARD!

You can definitely tell he's very passionate about Biology, but this class has been the toughest for me to get an A in. 7 Exams each are 20-30 questions, you can drop 2 but it's impossible to get an A on them! Take him if you're really serious about Biology..

Dr Winstead is one of the best professors at IUP. Do not listen to the comments on here. The people that did poorly did not apply themselves. He loves what he does and if you show a true interest in the subject he will help you in any way possible. His test are slightly difficult but if you actually take notes in class and study, not just read over your notes, then you will be fine. He makes it perfectly clear to try alternative study methods. He is a great guy, good teacher and a possible A.

I am TERRIBLE at biology... Dr. Winstead was very tough for me. Your grade relies on a few tests that you have to study your butt off for. I studied a lot and got B's and C's on the tests. He has a dynamite personality but is very tough. I'm not sure if I would take him again...all I can say is, I'm glad I didnt have him for lab or I'd be failing.

Very endearing little man. Can be a little boring, but is kind of funny. Clearly passionate about what he does. All material necessary for exams is covered in class and often handouts of material are given as well. Don't really need the book. Drops one or two of lowest exams. Just go to class, take notes, and review before exams and you'll be fine.

This class is a requirement for most who are not BIO majors or for people who hate biology they don't understand how to study for these classes so don't listen to the negative comments. Took him in the summer; a very passionate man about the earth and enjoys teaching. Sometimes he can go off on tangents but he is entertaining. His tests can be difficult but not if you study. GO TO CLASS, he likes those who do!! Labs can be kind of dull, but if you go to class and make an effort he's willing to help. Overall, hes awesome, take!

i had him for lab - he's amazing. super nice and passionate. though he does make the math diffulcult and it shouldn't be. very helpful and will do anything he can to make you understand. two lab reports and ten quizzes but are super easy. I'D HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR.WINSTEAD. plus when it rains, he takes you for ice cream. ;)

I had him for lab and he was a great professor. I really enjoyed having him! I definitely suggest going to his office hours to get extra help with the labs and topic talked about in class because he is very good at explaining. Take him!
