Honestly, nicest guy you'll ever meet! Go to discussion and if you are having problems, go see him during office hours. Hard essay exams, but he really cares about your progress!

Extremely conservative and his views dominate the class. But he's a great professor. As a hardcore liberal I still really enjoyed his class. Tends to ramble a bit but focuses the class on important and interesting subjects. No attendence. Two tests, two 1,000 word papers. pretty Easy grader

i'm a hist major and a senior; wolters is my favorite prof. @ UD and in my opinion the best in the hist dept. 4 decades of experience, funny, and about the kindest man you'll ever meet. Even if you aren't a conservative, it is almost impossible not to like him. take the reagan seminar as well!

Incredible knowledge of American Civil Rights and African American History. Will often go on a little too much about stories he feels are interesting, but will nonetheless be entertaining. Get past his obvious neo-conservative banter and you will enjoy him.

Once a week class, had quiz every week on a book we had to read, but they were easy. One 12 page paper due at the end of the semester which is almost your whole grade and u can pick any topic with civil rights. Very generous with grades, gives A if you show interest in class. gr8t teacher, good guy

DR. WOLTERS IS THE BEST! Refreshing to have a conservative professor after the mostly liberal faculty I've experienced at UD. He is extremely intelligent and thoughtful. Be prepared to study your butt off for exams! Lots of details = an A. I will def take him again; he's funny and I learned a lot.

He tells funny stories and gets sidetracked, but he really knows what he's talking about. Reads directly from his notes, though. It's good to have a professor willing to talk about the other side of the issues, and that DOESN'T think Abraham Lincoln is the best man EVER. Study (TRULY), and be ready to head stuff you never have before!

Wolters is just definitely the man. Best history professor I've had so far. Every class is an awesome, complicated story told from different perspectives. I wish I knew all that he knows, but it will never happen. His is truly the "greatest generation," and my generation is probably the worst.

He is the nicest man, and makes it actually interesting to sit through his lectures. he is finally a republican tecaher and he thanks you for coming to his class and listening to his lectures. He is AWSOME, i wish he was my grandpa! Take this class!

Dr. W is great. He is intelligent and kind- just a wonderful person all around. He definitely presents a different perspective on several of the major American movements. This course will make you rethink some of the ideas you were spoonfed in highschool (especially Lincoln). 6 books to read; mostly pretty good. 3 essay exams. Good class!

i love history but this class is terrible. he is a very nice man but not that great of a professor. there is no real textbook instead you read 6 different books that are horrendous and very confusing. his lectures consist of him talking so if you cant take notes quickly then dont take this class cause you will get lost

Wolters class wan't too bad. You don't read any textbooks but instead you have to read novels (which is good or bad with whatever you prefer). Sometimes he can get really boring but he knows what he's talking about. Just pay attention, go to your discussion classes (hope that you have a good discussion TA), and take good notes.

Yeah...he's a cool old guy and all but he's boring and you have to read 6 books which suck. They really seriously suck. The TA's suck too. He's cute and old and probably taught your mom or dad at some point if they went to udel - seriously.

Great Class! The professor knows his stuff. He has a lot of stories to tell. This is a very informative class, even if you are not a History major. Read five books, two essays, two tests. He made this class and subject matter very interesting.

oh i just LOVE him! i only missed 2 lectures, thats dedication!he doesnt have a textbook, just 6 novel-type books.his discussion session TAs are awesome.he makes u read a book he published too.specialty is black prominent figures.really knows his stuff.lectures very informative.and mostly well organized.he likes to go off on tangents sometimes tho.

Really great class. He knows his stuff. No textbook, 6 novels instead. Find a group of ppl and split up the reading so you don't have to do it all. Bluebook exams but you pretty much know what the essays are going to be before. I got an A without too much work, just know the stuff well. Couldn't get over how he ened each class right on time!

I thought I knew US History until i listened to him. He gives an amazing and unique perspective on history. Very good class. Exams are straight foward and all essay(not as bad as it sounds). Every so often he will tell a gem of a story and relate it to history. I highly recommend professor Wolters.

I don't like him. Study for the final for 6 hours and still fail miserably... cutting down our final to one hour nd saying we have multiple choice when its short answer and listening things is stupid. He's a tough grader

The guy is a fossil, older than dirt, and has been teaching at this institution for a long time. But he's a good man, and I liked his conservative viewpoints. Not a hard grader either. Recommend.

read 6 novels (1 every 2 weeks). tests (blue book) cover the two books at a time. use what he learned in lecture to get most of the points on the essays the rest comes from the books. the final was just a last test (same time length as the other two). he did say mc but mainly short answer and list, but still simple if you study and now some his

A very cool professor. I enjoyed the court cases he talked about. And, he also delves into his long experience (no, he doesn't plan to retire anytime soon, as I asked and he told the whole class). His books are wonderful. And, most importantly, he has a historical perspective that will challenge and enlighten your own. A brilliant man. Take him.

Great Professor, no textbook used, just two books per test. Three essay tests make up your grade for the class. Professor Wolters is the best lecturer I have had, you attend class simply because you want to listen to him. The amount of information he knows without looking at notes is incredible. TAKE HIM! I will again before I graduate.

I don't know why everyone says hes good, he is extremely boring in class, not useful, but his grading is fair. However his TA and other Teacher for this class, grade a little unfairly. I would not recommended this class. I thought it was going to be exciting but He really didn't make me interested in this at all.

GREAT professor. If you are a student who actually wants to learn you will learn so much just by listening to him talk. He is so wise and interesting. Tests are very straightforward essays that he tells you ahead of time, and no cumulative exams. NOT just another monotonous old history teacher. Really made me like history which i have always hated.

One of the easiest classes i've taken. I've never liked history but all you have to do is take notes during his lectures and he tells you the essays on the exam. study the night before and still get an A on every test. whole grade is the 3 exams. EASY A. Just go to class

Longest serving teacher at udel he's really boring and you basically want to die while being in class because he's so dry and old he stands at the front and lectures but really knows his stuff well he's basically a genius class really isn't that hard just very dry and boring but still easy to get an A

Extremely boring. Do not take this class if you fall asleep easily. All he does it stand in the front and lecture. Three essay tests that the TA makes up. Kind of difficult, I never knew exactly what he was looking for. Not the easy A I thought. There are a lot of notes. All he does is talk, talk, talk.

Very interesting class, and the professor really knows his stuff. I don't think he's as easy as some of the people are saying on here, but then again I am not a history buff. I had to study a decent amount, but still got an A. He gives the essay questions in advance for the 2nd and 3rd exams, and is SUPER helpful if you go to office hours!

Apparently changed his teaching methods because he no longer gives out the essays ahead of time for the exams. NOT an easy A anymore. Harsh essay grader average on exams was a 75 every time. Don't take it as an easy elective.

He is a brilliant man. He digresses a lot to waste time in my opinion because there isn't enough material to cover on the topic in the time that is given and he doesn't want to look bad. The course is very interesting and he practically gives you the test beforehand. Fairly easy grader in my opinion. If you like history, you'll like this class.

very interesting professor with interesting perspectives. lectures sometimes can get boring but it is a history class. only gives 4 grades (mid term & final & 2 papers) so plenty of time to read the books he assigns which are actually interesting. tough grader, but if you try you can easily get a B. would take again

Very smart and very fair professor, lectures make class interesting, and he is very approachable in office hours. If you go to class, do the readings, and can write a decent paper, you can get an A. I don't agree with his conservative politics but loved this class and would take him again.
