IS a very BORING Teacher. Doesn't know how to teach at all. Hard to understand. He is not helpful and does not have a sense of humor. YOU WILL NOT LEARN ANYTHING. Would not recommend.
This professor has a lack of attention, gets lost in his own problems and forget the class, sometimes does not even finish or is able to solve the problem he set up. I would not recommend this teacher unless one wants to blank out the whole period, and listen to a teacher ramble on about a problems in a Russian accent.
He's not the best math teacher, but i've yet to find a really good one. If you have to take him, just make sure you're in class everyday, or your going to have to teach yourself the material.
had him for summer math 310 L....very easy...did not really explain anything becuase class was based on group work..if you showed up and did your work you passed with credit....recomment him highly for this class
Im so happy he was my teacher becuase he actually cared, he wanted his students to pass. He offered to meet up with the class on weekends and help his students. If you're willing to work, you'll do fine the calss. If you dont understand something ask questions, he'll answer them!
This professor goes really really fast but if you need help he is willing to help you. Attend class!!! I never really went to class that much but I had to teach myself the material and ended with a B because I did work hard. Attend class, ask for help and study... you should end up with a decent grade.
He's not such a good teacher. he's not clear. you have to study EVERYTHING on your own. hes not so helpful and not so good in english
You will fall asleep listening to this professor speak. He tries really hard to help you but gets lost at times. His tests and quizzes are straight from the homework. I would only recommend him if you are very astute in math otherwise you will fall asleep and learn nothing!
ciuca is a fair teacher. i liked his method on approaching problems. he tells you why a formula is important and how/why its used later. occasionally you cant understand him, but not often. attendance isnt mandatory, but the class is easier if u show up. tests are from the homework. and he lets you make up some percentage from the tests if you want
i had this professor for finite mathematics. he doesnt speak clearly so its very hard to understand him. the only plus is that if you do the problems u missed on a test, he will allow you to earn some of those points back. but he makes you do almost every problem in the book! he is an OK teacher. homework is only worth like 2 points per assignment
A little hard to understand what he says at times. His tests do contain some materials that he hasn't taught yet but he does prepare you final very well. Just go to his class and do his homework and you should be able to get at least a B... Attendance not mandatory after first day
3 midterms, 1 final, HW for every section. You do get credit for the hw. If you can do the hw, the tests are not that hard. Gives back 25% of what you missed if you do test corrections. Willing to help you during office hours and through email. Attendance not mandatory, but it does make learning the material a lot easier.
when i took him i thought he was a horrible teacher but i've now realized that he's a fairly decent one. he knows how to teach and his tests are easy if you understand and pay attention to him. right now i have the worst math professor and wish i could have him as my professor again.
He's an ok prof. He knows his stuff but sometimes complicates it more then it should. If you ask for help he will give you his time. His interest is in having his students pass the class. If you participate he will take that into notice.
He does care about his students and the grades, but the thing is he complicates the subject too much and he makes the class a little difficult, he goes fast with the lectures, and sometimes, he can go back on his word. He can explain the material, but has a hard time explaining it good since he complicates the material. You have to work hard for A
He's actually not as bad as ppl say about him. You say he's hard to understand, it's because you don't try to understand the material either. Ask questions and he tries giving you all the time you need. Hes better than i expected.
This teacher goes so fast with the lectures that even part of the chalk comes off when he is writing, and he revealed his office hours a week before finals, but overall he does care for his students to the point of overdoing it, but the only reason I passed this class was due to google and tutoring center since he goes quick.
He knows what he's teaching pretty well. If a student does not understand a concept, he will take a lot of time to go over the concept again in a different way. Most people in my class failed because they didnt use the textbook. All you have to do is read the lesson before you come to class. Makesure to ask questions because he will answer in depth
He is a pretty chill professor. He talks fast and doesn't slow down for anyone. I had to go to tutoring a lot to understand the material for this class and to be able to pass my tests.
For the love of everything in the universe. Dont take him. He made a easy class extremely hard. Really strict on attendance and isnt helpful at all.
He is very fast pace. He goes through the material very fast. His explaining is very complicating. Math 102 is an easy course, but he makes it hard.
He is fair. No trick questions on the test. I have had some pretty bad math teachers, and he is nowhere close to this. He asks that you look at the book, and read chapters before coming to class. Most people did not do this, and were lost in class. If you do the HW and practice tests, and read the book, it is almost a guaranteed A.
Goes over the material pretty fast, but if you follow along in class and do the HW it should be an easy A
Worst Professor ever! he teaches at a very fast paced so its hard to understand the material. One day i did not understand the material and went to his office hours for help and he did not help me at all!
Class is hard period no matter who you take it with. You want the best teacher possible given that. I would not recommend this teacher. If you are good at math this class shouldn't be a problem. He is very knowledgeable about the material and encourages questions. Problem is he makes students feel like they are dumb asking the questions they ask.
I was heading in scared after reading all his reviews, but he's a really great teacher! It's true, he teaches at a fast pace, but he needs to cover a lot, so it's not entirely his fault, and either way, he teaches it in a way thats easy to understand the first time around. Overall, I would take him again if I ever had the chance
He's alright. He makes down points for no reason sometimes and no extra credit. He never talks about any of the online hw so it's easy to forget and it counts as a lot of points in the end
His lectures were fast, but I think he covered the material very well. It was easy to understand. His final was not hard. The study guides really helped. However, he did not give mention the online hw, so I forgot and didn't do probably a quarter of them. I did get A's on the three exams just didn't do much hw but ended up with a B+
He teaches fast but if you attend to all the lectures you will be fine
Its Hard to understand what he says since he has an accent. Instead of explaining a problem he writes the answer which is not helpful at all. If you ask a question he will make fun of you or be sarcastic when you dont need him to be like that at the moment.
He doesn't give you a chance to talk about a situation and jumps to the point straight away, he doesn't give second chances and he gives a ton of online work, his notes make no sense he just does a question and looks at you and expects you to understand and if you ask for help he says read the book which is crap, had to take tutoring but I was late
Good teacher, very knowledgeable about the subject. He does teach fast but only if nobody stops him with questions. When you do ask a question he makes sure you understand. His accent isn't even thick, he's young and smart, a cool guy. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss no classes you get EC. would have done better if class time wasn't 8 am
I don't even know where to start. This professor has an accent but its not thick. If you ask for help he will help you but he will look at you as if you were stupid. He teaches really fast. No curves. No Extra credit. 3 exams and the final. Homework was due online every Sunday (no reminders). If you're not a big fan of Math I would suggest tutoring
His classes are long and boring. He would always try to explain the logic to the subjects rather than the steps we need to take to complete the problem which would always confuse the class entirely. He over complicates his lectures when the solution to the problems are simple. He's also hard to understand and his tests are tough to get an A.
Professor Ciuca is flat out a poor Math teacher. Tried to explain the logic behind the problems WAY too fast. Extremely unclear. Accent is pretty thick, but this was negligible compared to his inability and seemingly unwillingness to explain things thoroughly to student. Also condescending. Received an A in College Alg. Have to retake this course.
So I received an A in this class, the pre-calc class I took at SMC prior to transfer really helped me succeed. The Prof. is a cool guy, slightly under-spoken and has a soft accent. His lectures are an overview of the math problems, but if you want to get an A like I did... ace every single homework problem on the xyz platform (unlimited attempts)
He's a good teacher and is very knowledgeable when it comes to mathematics. He does go through the material a bit too fast at times, but that's only if you don't ask questions. Study hard, do the homework, and you'll be fine. Not as bad as people here make him out to be.
He is great! He encourages you to do hundreds of math problems before an exam, and if you do exactly as he says, you will pass! This is a difficult course, be prepared to put in time and effort.
Math 103 is a very challenging course because it deals with a lot of word problems, graphs, and analytical thinking. I personally don't recommend taking this professor because he would lecture in a fast, complicated, boring way and make it more confusing than it already is. I only recommend taking this class if you have a very strong background
A real solid choice to take. He is very funny and encourages questions. The tests may be hard but you should pass them. Easy pass but if you want an A, you will have to put in the work.
Great professor. If you attend every class, you will understand the material. He goes over the workbook thoroughly. If there is something you don't understand just ask him a question about what you're confused about. Doing the homework will definitely benefit you in this class.
he is very interactive in class, meaning he tends to walk around and look at peoples works and tries to help them. amazing professor but you might need to pay attention and ask for clarifications. he's very smart and would breeze through the example problems making them hard to follow, in some cases.
Great professor. He knows the topic very well and is always encouraging questions to be asked. He is always available outside of class so make sure you go to his office hours. Three exams and a final. He always goes reviews and goes over the sections before a test and it helps a lot for the test. Would highly recommend.
3 main test. No quizzes. Cares about students, hes always asking if you have questions. Be prepared to study the material on your own time as this course is difficult at times. HIlarious. I would Recommend.
took him at valley. Shows every step so you could look back at your notes if you get stuck on the homework. gives extra credit opportunity.
He is too fast.
Not sure why he's graded so low, he actually wants to help his students. A few times I've gone to him after class or before and he tries to explain everything well. It is math so if you have trouble learning it then maybe he might go too fast but its a lot to go over. But if you ask he'll take the time either out of class or in class to go over it.
Professor Razvan Ciuca is carrying student and his teaching and method is really good.
Way too fast. Do not take if you want to learn something or if you even just want to pass.
Professor Ciuca is very passionate and excited about math. Hes pretty good but goes REALLY fast through material. Hes sort of approachable but I usually went to the lab for my questions. He is very upfront and clear about his grading requirements. Overall he is an OK math professor. Id rate him as a solid B+
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. PLEASE DO NOT. SAVE YOURSELF. this man can not teach. he knows his stuff, but he is not a TEACHer. He is that student in that class who knows everything and when you ask for help he makes no sense. runs through everything fast and always skips steps. please save yourself and do not take him.
This professor knows his material very well. However, because he knows it so well, he will tend to move very fast so you need to attend every class and keep up with your homework. You will fall behind if you are not proficient in math.
I took his precalc class at valley and got an A even after failing one of my midterms, lots of room for extra credit. His lectures are good, although sometimes he might skip a few fundamentals with the assumption you already know them. An overall really fantastic professor, he made me actually enjoy math and I now have a new appreciation it!!
As long as you do the homework and pay attention during the class, there is no reason you should no receive an A. Overall, he goes fast but if you can understand what he is saying, he is an excellent teacher!
19 Chapters. Each chapter, 2 homeworks (XYZ & Problems). 3 exams, 1 final. Professor is knowledgeable but confuses entire class when going on his frequent tangents. Before exam, he does review sessions where he gives you similar questions to the exam. I went to review sessions and went to tutoring to understand them. Learn yourself. He doesn't care
Stay away from this professor. He is very condescending and rude. He overcomplicates things and assigns so much work, of which he makes mandatory but does not grade. He forces you to go up to the board if you need help and if you don't then he won't help you. The lab instructor was better than he was and was where most of the class truly learned.
He goes through his lectures so quickly, it was so difficult to learn all of the material because I felt like he was racing through it. He can also be condescending when you ask questions and made me feel dumb at times. Overall, if you really struggle with math I do not recommend taking this professor.
This professor was rude the whole semester. He singles people out and makes them feel dumb if they dont understand. He was gone for a whole week and didnt even let us know beforehand. His overcomplicates math and makes you show work that doesnt even make sense. He was only nice to us towards then end to the semester because we had to evaluate him.
I can clearly say this is the worst math teacher Ive ever had. He makes concepts harder than they should be and demands extra work for simple things. He assigns classwork, collects it then doesnt grade it. He was constantly comparing us to other classes. He often goes over lecture time and if you have to leave he wont cover it again next time.
The only thing I truly learned from this class is to never take this professor for math again. Terrible just terrible. Please take any other Professor but him. He doesnt know what hes doing and makes things harder than they should be. Ive had other math professors and hes by far the worst at teaching and his little attitude doesnt help.
Doesnt even do lectures! Just reads off of other classes notes. Has a temper , so beware if you ask him for help
He is a adequate professor. My only complaint is he made us REDO sections as quizzes that counted for our grade. He 's tough on you, but in fairness you are paying for the class and he wants you to participate even when you get things wrong. Take the class with him if you want to pass.
Hes very considerate to students needs. He lets us use our notes for tests. YOU HAVE TO COME TO CLASS. Hes overall pretty good but the way he teaches math is kinda confusing so be prepared to learn the material on your own!
This Professor does not care if you understand the material. Expects you to understand everything in the lecture as soon as he teaches it. Tells students to ask him questions if we don't understand something but when someone asks a question he gets upset. Uses notes from another class and just reads through it, doesn't actually teach anything.
Doesnt teach, only goes over previous notes from other classes. Has short temper which doesn't even help at all. Literally avoid taking this class with this professor at all cost. Not worth your money for a class that only sets you up to fail. The practice quizzes don't even help at all nor even on the right topic of the lesson. final word, is no.
This is the WORST math teacher I have ever had, this professor made us print up to 20 pages of notes expects us to be able to afford lots of paper and ink let alone have a printer. He will zoom through lessons and speak so fast that you cant understand him. Me and my classmates all struggled trying to understand him. He gets mad at questions as wel
Everytime class starts, he'd make the whole class print our class assignment while the paper he will lecture on is ALREADY WRITTEN. Which makes it difficult for us to understand what we are doing because he basically makes us copy it. Also, he is very rude. Whenever one of my classmates has a question he gets upsets and makes that person feel bad.
I'm gonna be honest. I took him in year 2018 for math 102. And ive passed all my classes all the way onto differential equations, which is math 280. Let me say that from math 102 compared with all my professors, he was literally the best math prof ive had. Its surprising to see many bad reviews towards him. Hes actually a really great prof.
Very solid professor. These reviews scared me before I started his class, but it really isn't bad at all. All the homework is on XYZ, and he gives three exams plus the final. He lets you use notes on exams if you need to. His lectures and notes are clear and understandable. Very accessible outside of class, and overall a solid 102 choice.
I'm surprised by all the bad reviews, prof Ciuca is a very solid choice. We use two workbooks purchased from the bookstore, & take notes there. Sometimes he can go pretty fast during lectures but he is always available for help if you contact him. Exams & HW are on XYZ, very doable. I wouldn't take this class again because I don't really like math.
I'm not sure why professor R.C has such low ratings. He is truly an amazing professor and I would definitely take this class again. This class is not an easy A, but neither Is any math class. The way he teaches is very clear, the notes are clear, clear grading criteria, if you have to make up anything he is so understanding and accommodating. 10/10
Professor Cuica is very nice and likes to make little jokes here and there. He is very accommodating for students and takes his time in explaining the material. Unfortunately, this caused the class to be behind and we had to rush the last chapters. He does not record lectures and the xyz homework takes about an hour or two with only 16 assignment
Good teacher but if you dont have an iPad to take notes then good luck! All the notes we take are on iPad so if you dont have one youll need to print all the notes out which can be 10+ pages. He goes over everything fast so get ready to learn on your own!
I took Professor RC's Statistics class during Fall 2021. He is very helpful and understanding. Sometimes, I can ask many questions, and he has always provided me with polite and helpful responses. His class is fast paced so make sure to attend his office hours or online math tutoring if you can. Overall, Professor RC is great.
There are many things that I disliked about this teacher this semester in school. He goes very fast through the slides and it is extremely frustrating because he never tries to slow down. He doesn't post any assignments or quizzes on campus so the students come into class not knowing we had something due or have a quiz which is a huge percent.
His thick accent made it hard to understand but I was able to work past it and so did a lot of people in my class. He tried his best to throw a joke here and there. Approaching him outside of class helped a lot especially since he was understanding and patient. Professor Ciuca does care for the students and tries to do what he can to help them.
Professor Ciuca is a good professor, I enjoyed having his as a professor because he was actually good at explaining things. The things he taught were on the tests, no surprises. He was clear on what he wanted (work-wise) when it comes to tests. Also the midterms and final was super easy. He is also super nice and understanding.
Great teacher, I really enjoyed taking his class & learned well from him! However, it is important to actually attend his lectures and do the work! It will help your grade, he is also generous with extra credit points if you do the review papers for exams! 10/10 highly recommend!! would take him again for another class
Professor Ciuca is very simple and straightforward. I honestly believe anyone can pass this class as long as you attend the lectures and pay attention and do the homework. His teaching style is showing examples on how to do a certain problem and then making you do those problems. His lectures are slightly fast but he is willing to clarify/explain.
Professor Ciuca is the best professor at CSUN. He follows the book and gives a lot of practice problems to help students understand the material. He is very understanding as long as you show that and show up to his lectures. Before every exam, he puts a list of problems on the board that end up being very similar to the exam. Take this professor!!
He's Okay, I would say that if you are on his good side you should be fine. The only thing that bothered me was that he was kind of a helicopter teacher, felt like I was in high school again. He likes to show you how to do one problem then see what you're doing. He can come off as rude sometimes but again if you are on his good side you're good.
He is the best math professor I ever had, extremely funny and relatable, apart from a subtle accent that you have to get used to, he is a great professor. Although the class is based mainly on midterms it is very easy to get back the points you missed through remakes of study guide. Easiest math class ever and I suck at math.
Attendance isn't mandatory (as in it doesn't affect your grade), but he does take attendance to keep track of who is coming and who isn't. I highly recommend going to the lectures, though. They're very helpful and he encourages questions. Does lots of examples, gives lots of work but the tests are similar to the work he gives. He's silly sometimes.
Do not take this professor
Ciuca was the first math professor I ever took at CSUN and he absolutely changed my perspective on mathematics and my ability to perform in STEM. I once missed an exam and he allowed me to retake it at a later date for full credit. I failed the first exam and still finished with an A. He cares deeply about the success of his students.
if you want to save your sanity don't take him. he's rude, doesn't explain course material well and expects you to get it from the first time, and tests are difficult.
explains way too quickly and expects you to understand, lots of homework but they do help in understanding the material.
Lectures moved quickly, but the professor was attentive in class and always took time to help students individually. Often used light humor to keep the class relaxed. If you do well on the exams during the semester, the final exam is similar and manageable.
He's a nice guy and helpful outside of class. He also gives 100% on all classwork if you complete them all the way. However, tests aren't multiple choice, he gives extra HW problems that he doesn't grade but will drop you if you don't do them. You also have to pay $40 for a subscription to do your HW.
