Strange obsession with dog racing and breeding a'la BEST IN SHOW
Very nice!
Her tests have nothing to do with lecture. Extremely boring speaker, nice, but extremely unclear and not worth the D I'm getting in the class.
This is a strange class to beging with. Tests aren't that bad if you treat them like 225 tests, but she asks ridiculously specific questions. Not a good power lecture class, but over all I dont hate it, or her. Just not that impressive
Didn't enjoy the class
Will not email you back, hands back exams 6 weeks later
She explains concepts well and is easy to approach with a question.
I took this class in Fall of 2000. I am not in graduate school and I realize how much I learned. She was a great teacher and I learned a lot. Tough class though I have to say. The tests were way too hard.
The exams were bizzare, some questions were way too specific, ie. soemtihing you would have had to have ready a tiny blurb several times to know or remember. Teacher is nice, but the class is not an easy A.
Professor Addington, I think, is a pretty good professor. She tells you almost everything you need to know for the exams. She emails study guides for every exam, so there is no reason not to know what is on the exam!! Go to lecture, and study your notes, the book isn't much of a help.
I think Professor Addington was a good professor. Her exams are fair, but tough. She gives you all the information you need to know via lecture and she emails study guides for each exam. Totally obsessed with a few animals :) Overall, it was a good class, but certainly not an easy A. Recommendations: Go to every lecture...book is mostly junk.
She makes this class so much harder then it needs to be. The tests are just ridiculously hard. I would try to get a different teacher if you have to take this class as a requirement.
Pretty good teacher, just a long boring class with an uninteresting subject.
well organized class
The class is meant to be a weeder course, so all assignments are predetermined and the bell curve is set. Addington doesn't try to make it any more terrible than it has to be.
good teacher, hard class
Lectures are pretty boring, and the tests are impossible....not a class worth taking
Her exams are the same for Psych 225 and 449. I had her for both classes. The exams always have multiple choice, short answer and 2 long answer questions. She lectures off of powerpoint. Reading the book is kind of helpful, she'll put a question sometimes in the multiple choice from the book that she didn't go over in class.
The lectures are insanely boring and she is a nazi with grading. She will take points off on exams if you do not answer with the EXACT wording that she wants you to. Not a class worth taking unless absolutely necessary.
lectures are very clear but tests are very hard
I took this class in the summer of 07 and it was not nearly has hard as i expected. I definetly recommend taking it over the summer with Addington as she focuses less on the statistical stuff and more on the experimental process. Although it requires lots of time and effort, Addington cheers you on and gives you everything you need to succeed.
She knows her material, but conveys it in an uninteresting manner. She has to be one of the pickiest graders I have ever had. Some of her test questions are way off base. If you want a class on a similar subject taught by a great teacher, take Psych 450 or 451 (not sure which it is) by Christopher Coe (Pysch of the Primates).
Very clear explanations including uselessly long examples. Review sheet is a gift from God, but she probably won't send it until the night before the exam. Boring. Can know all material for an exam, don't give exactly the answer she wants, and get a C on the exam. Papers and be...overwhelming. Could be worse, I guess.
hard class no matter what you do. my personal opinion is Addington is a much better teacher than the other options...
If you want to memorize stuff and spit it back to her take this class. Otherwise, dont...Coe is way better- take psych450
She doesnt like to return emails. takes months to grade papers... if on the exam you do not put the exact word that she wants( just the defenition) she will mark you down! :( like the info of the class, just hated the grading
Had her for both 225 and 449. She isn't as hard on grading as everyone says, you just need to know your definitions. As long as you do the readings and take good notes, you shouldn't have a problem getting an A. For 225, your grade more or less depends on your TA, since they grade all of the papers (and half of each test).
Addington: clear, concise, knowledgeable and helpful. Awfully stern at times but not angry, follows rules, not much room for negotiation. Exams: require detailed, to the point answers. Vague answers only recieve half credit. Papers (3): long, be prepared, 15-20pgs plus, research required. Work/time intensive, technicial more than conceptual.
Had addington for 210 and 225. I definitely recommend her for 210; its boring subject matter no matter how you cut it so her clarity is helpful. 225 sucks no matter who teaches it, especially because of the bell curve, but she doesnt make it harder than it needs to be. exams arent hard theyre just graded hard so the curve doesnt make a 92 a B
typical psych course, graded almost solely on 3 exams (1 hw assignment), about the same difficulty level as psych 202.
not interesting to listen to. only used animal and wildlife examples for problems. she would go on for 15 min to set up the problem, and by the time you would actually start working on the problem, you forgot what you were trying to solve! showed up and listened but still do not understand any statistics at all!
Good class. Not THAT easy, but if you go to class and study a little you'll be fine. You don't have to do the readings, but I do the them as a form of reviewing the material. Tests are very straight forward. Gives you a review sheet of what you need to know for each exam. 3 exams and 1 easy homework assignment.
She is the worst professor I've had. She makes the tests so that no matter how well you know the material you cannot finish. I got a C on a test without getting anything wrong, just couldn't finish. No one can. She doesn't understand that it is not a test of our knowledge, its a race. Many tests can be hard to finish but Ive never seen this b4.
She just makes you angry. Normally if you do badly you know you're responsible that is not the case in this class.
She explains concepts very clearly if tediously. Lecture is so comprehensive dont really need book unless you want it for review. Tests arent too hard but the curve makes them more painful. So if you want an A study hard. if your at all good with a computer dont bother going to discussion the SPSS manual will tell you everything you need to know.
You have 3 things keeping your grade down in this class: 1.) The curve is not generous. 2.) The people who drop out of this class who are on the lower end of the curve put the middle portion students closer to the bottom of the curve. 3.) You have to compete with students who retake this class (so they get a 2.75 GPA average with Intro PSY). HARD!!
Lecture is easy to follow, and then the test comes and it's ridiculously hard. Only geared towards one type of thinker, no room for individualized ideas. Get through it and move on.
Becky was great! This class is notoriously difficult and boring, but she made it pretty do-able. Definitely go into office hours for help on papers - she's really great!
Becky is a good teacher. let's face it, Statistics is extremely boring and there are few people that can make it interesting. Go to lecture it really helps because the tests are mostly from lecture materials. The class is not easy by any means but it is manageable if you put in the time.
I liked this class. Rebecca is well organized and runs it smoothly. She also brings in her dog to demonstrate and knows a lot about dog training. Exams are indeed ridiculous, as others have said - she is so incredibly picky on the short answer questions. Overall recommended, however.
Exams itself were very hard, but you have homeowork assignments that play a role in your final grade. What I liked the most was that Rebecca was very understanding and made every chance possible to engage the students. She was also very available to meet. Okay class, good prof.
The class is very interesting but it is really annoying that she never returns assignments. The readings are not necessary. I wouldn't even bother buying the textbook. Overall I really enjoyed the class.
Great 225 teacher. Very clear and helpful! Yes, the class sucks, but Addington tries to help make it do-able.
One of the worst in the psychology department. She will not give any credit on exams for answers that are not specific, but she is always vague in lecture. Questions on the exams are not clear, but she will still take points off. Try to tae this class when Addington is not teaching it.
Good lecturer and easy to follow but the exams were ridiculous. The questions were not very clear and as a whole the exams were very dense. I would also suggest taking 450 with Coe instead. That class was better.
While the topic is interesting, I would not recommend taking this class. She's quite a flake... re-scheduled one exam (the day of) because she had a migraine... and then moved the second and canceled her office hours immediately preceding the exam so she could "finish working on it". Take 450 with Coe instead - it's much better class
No idea what others are talking about, tests were absurdly easy with normal amount of studying! A joy compared to others in the psych dept, the first straight-forward and FAIR tests given. Fantastic lecturer, takes time to ensure everyone understands every point before moving on. Very helpful when you ask her questions. Awesome class, a pleasure.
Terrible class. Material appeared to be easy but tests were unfairly difficult. Not to mention extremely boring lectures. As someone had previously stated, she is very flakey. Poor excuses for canceling an exam (literally an hour before it was scheduled) and office hours. Was also late for the final exam... Do not take this class!!
DON'T take this class! At first I thought the material was very interesting, I did the readings, took diligent notes during lectures, and studied hard. Despite all of this, the exams were unbelievably difficult! The questions were extremely confusing and VERY dense. Would never recommend this class to a friend. Wish I would have taken 450 instead.
Addington is a great professor and lecturer! She makes everything crystal clear as she goes through lecture and is super-organized. She's extremely amenable to extra help, too. Tests are only difficult b/c of the bell curve the psych dept makes mandatory. If you have to take the dreadful 225, take it with her; she'll make it less painful!
The class is very boring and slow but Addington is very thorough and clear. The tests are hard but reasonable and she is very responsive to students and technologically proficient so email communication is easier and grade postings are relatively prompt. I'd recommend her.
Tests are impossible. Addington will ask you about anything used in the textbook, no matter how seemingly insignificant. Be prepared to read the book 3 or 4 times. Very boring class.
Loved her and loved the class. Exams can be difficult but are sill fair. Professor Addington is more than willing to help students and meet outside of class. Very passionate about the subject and even brings her dog in for demonstrations. Even though I loved this class, I would only recommend it for people who have an interest in animal behavior.
Her class was fairly easy compared to other psychology classes. Her exams are straightforward and fair.
Overall, she was a great teacher; passionate, engaging and interesting. Her exams were tough but fair. However, she is extremely difficult to get in contact with, she never responded to any of my emails, and I couldn't even leave a voicemail on her office phone, it just kept ringing. Very frustrating. Otherwise, great teacher.
great proffessor, very engageed and interested in the course. Do not read the text book and attend all lectures. Everything on the exams is from lecture. Exams are very straight forward if you pay attention
Really great professor. She is quirky and funny, and her love of dogs shines through! I was nervous about this class because math has always been difficult for me, but she takes the time to explain all concepts and makes it very easy to understand. Highly recommend!
I'm not quite sure why Becky is rated so low. I went on a friend's recommendation to take Psych Stats with her, and I'm glad I took her recommendation instead of taking the rating into consideration!
Before taking stats, I was really nervous because I'm really not a math person at all. But Professor Addington made all the concepts super easy to understand, assignments were easy, and exams were fair.
The material is really easy to learn, but she will make the class appear more difficult than it actually is by having exams with poorly worded questions that will stretch your reading comprehension more than they will stretch your understanding of the material. The class averages on the exam can't possibly reflect the understanding of the material
Although the lectures and topics of the class are themselves fun, the tests are way unbelievably hard. I'm good at memorizing terms and I understood all the material we learned, but that didn't help at all. Unless you're good at deciphering lengthy test questions and figuring out what she means in every question, don't take the class
I had Becky for two classes in one semester and found that she was one of the best professors I have had. She made lecture interesting with very clear Powerpoints as well as lots of pictures and examples to go along with topics. To top it off, she brings her dog in for examples on learning and Wren was awesome!
all she does is talk about how she's a dog trainer and makes students fall asleep during power lecture.
This class is pretty boring and her tests are impossible no matter how much you read or how well you know the material.
Her lectures can drag on but that's a given with the course material. She's very thorough with examples which helped a ton. Lab is pretty useless as SPSS is very simple, but the practice sheets were nice. Homework is easy and short. The tests seemed designed to take the entire time, so study and do lots of practice problems. Overall, she was great.
To preface, I'm awful at math. That being said, Professor Addington made stats accessible for me. She's incredibly helpful and easy to understand. She also loves her dogs and brought her pup in a few times. She eased my statistics anxiety as much as possible. The class was still difficult, but she was great.
Exams were very straight-forward, and homework was easy. The book isn't necessary, but does help with explaining the concepts. Do practice problems and just keep up with conceptual stuff, and this class should be an easy class for you.
Went into stats with major anxiety but I currently am on the brink of an AB. Yes it's difficult but it's doable. She takes a while to update learn@uw but she is pretty clear in lecture. Tests can be difficult but manageable. I would take wth her if you have to take this class
Becky is a really nice person, but she's not the best professor. You can tell she's knowledgable on her topic, but she has no idea how to explain it so everyone understands. You can memorize the textbook and meet with her after lectures and still not do great on the exam. She's also a very tough grader.
Really tough class as it is. Becky tries to be helpful, but she doesn't explain the things she should in lecture. She'll focus on the background of an example for 75% of class and speed through the actual stats portion. Once you get lost, there's no way to figure out what you've missed. If you're not great at math, don't even bother taking this.
Taught like the whole class sucked at math. Very slow paced. Open ended questions on tests left room for error not because you didn't know the answer, but because you didn't know what she would be looking for in the answer. She taught stats the Addington way, not like other stats classes I've taken. It took 3 weeks to get grades back
Very knowledgable and passionate about stats. Homework was fairly straightforward but tests were very difficult and worded weirdly. Lectures were learning steps to a specific problem, but the tests focused more on the conceptual aspects rather than calculations. Do lots of practice problems when studying and make sure you know literally everything.
Whenever I went into office hours I found Professor Addington to be really kind and helpful, and was able to explain things in a way that made sense. Lecture was not super interesting, but hey its stats and it was well organized. Her exams were very difficult. the concept questions are really hard. Most people in my class got a C.
Dr. Addington was a great professor, she was VERY passionate about psychology and animal psychology. Although she often read off the slides, she used great examples in the lectures that helped me remember concepts. Her tests were VERY fair. She also gave us an exam review sheet for every exam which was extremely useful.
This semester was Professor Addingtons first time teaching psych 202. She turned out to be perfect for this class. She posts all lecture PowerPoints, class lecture audio, very extensive study guides, and other general help to the class website. There is also substantial extra credit.
She did a great job teaching Pysch 202 for the first time. She gave out study guides to help through the exams. If you knew everything on those, listened to lecture, and did your readings you would do just fine. Her lectures were easy and wonderful to listen to as well.
credit is given if you put down definitions and explanations she wants, but her expectations aren't always clear. sometimes takes too long on background info and rushes through important material
Professor Addington does a fantastic job teaching 210. Her lectures can be boring and she often explains examples with unnecessary details, but she does a great job of explaining what students should know. If you don't get the content then read the book to provide a further explanation. She also really cares for her students. I 100% recommend her.
Overall very good. Psych Stats is boring to begin with so it is not her fault the lectures seem pretty long. She does make an effort to explain relevant and interesting topics. A very good teacher. Make sure you attend lecture though because that is where I learned EVERYTHING. She is very good to talk to in office hours.
Prof. Addington was a great professor for pscyh 202. She was extremely fair in her tests with her reviews letting you know everything that will be on the upcoming exam. I would recommend going to lecture as a lot of the exam material is from the lectures. You don't have to read the book for this class. Very nice lady, hw is annoying though.
Becky is a really great professor, her class is challenging but everything she does just helps you understand the material more. She posts all her lectures online so if you miss it's not a big deal but I would recommend going to lecture anyways because she brings her dog sometimes and it's so much fun.
Becky is a nice person who tried to make class interesting. However, her class was so incredibly difficult and she claimed there was a curve when at the end of the semester, only the C range was curved. Grading for exams also takes several weeks so we didn't know until less than a week before the final what our grade was on our last midterm.
Literally my least favorite professor I've ever had, does not teach the subject matter, her lecture notes are useless. Avoid Psych 210 at all costs. Does like to talk about her dogs alot tho. I'm not math inclined so I spent a significant amount of time at office hours, was not helpful at all. Also weekly homework sucks, take Stats 371 instead.
50% Psych, 50% Dog Training. Still she's super nice and enthusiastic about what she's talking about.
Her lectures are very disorganized and it's difficult to catch up with the material if you have to miss class. She will take 30 minutes each class to either talk about her dogs, or explain an extremely simple concept like range. However, she will speed past a difficult concept in five minutes. Doesn't really care about the success of her students.
I am genuinely so disappointed in my overall experience with Prof. Addington. Upon meeting her in lecture I got the impression that she genuinely wanted her students to succeed. However I was very mistaken. The exams were not attainable and had an incredibly low average. Her tests were very unfair which ultimately reflect how poor of a prof she is.
I had this class during the whole virus incident, so I can understand the difficulties of teaching in these circumstance. Even so, before as well as in the pandemic she was of little help. The canvas page is messy. She does not give depth and does the bare minimum in explaining the steps it takes to figure out answers.
THE MOST UN-ENGAGING TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. She literally went missing for a whole week during online classes and didn't give her students an update until the last day of instruction and gave us 4 hours of lecture to watch. Canvas pages were messy and she's a professor that sets her students up to fail right when you walk in the room on day 1. AWFUL
During the in-person portion of the class, she was always available to chat after the lecture if I had questions and responsive to emails. Her lectures are dense but very helpful in understanding the concepts-- very accessible. The switch to online lectures was difficult-- lectures were not timely and were rather long. But she was great in-person
Addington is clearly passionate about statistics and psych. That being said, her teaching style is really all over the place. It can be scrambled and confusing sometimes when she's explaining things. If you skip a lecture, you'll really have to work hard to catch up. Honestly was not a fan of her class/teaching.
She talks more about dogs than statistics.
Addington has a very clear, well paced lecture style, it's very refreshing, she is also always available for help. Using the review questions in the the textbook for exams is KEY. It is difficult stuff, but an A is very attainable if you put in time to study. Use textbook to enhance learning, not 100% necessary.
I really enjoyed Prof Addington! She is super sweet and does a really great job explaining both the mathematical and conceptual sides of the topics. The homeworks are really beneficial to understanding and your grade. The tests were closed note (but with a provided formula sheet) so you definitely needed to know the stuff pretty well to do good
Becky explained the concepts very well in her lectures. She went at a slow/medium pace so everyone could follow along. The homework was helpful but the tests were pretty difficult. You definitely have to work hard for an A.
Professor Addington had helpful lectures and was readily available to help outside of class. Her review sessions were also great. However, there were several times where we had to learn new chapters of information just days before a test which was stressful. Overall a tough class, but Professor Addington is helpful.
A truly amazing teacher! She is very caring about her students and is quite accomodating. The class is relatively easy, just a little extra bit of reading than usual, and projects and papers are straightforward. Lectures and content are fascinating and she keeps things interesting. The project was really fun to do! Highly recommend!
Prof Addington's class is a good choice if you're looking for a chill capstone. She brings in her dog a few times and cover some pretty interesting topics. Just small weekly assignments and one big paper due at the end. No exams, a bit of reading but they're usually pretty reasonable.
Class was honestly kinda hard. The entire class and grading is total points based and just the final exam alone takes up almost 40% of the points. But if you go to lectures and try to engage and take quality notes you will probably do really good.
Definitely recommend any other professor that is available for your semester. Her lectures are very content heavy and exams + weekly homework carry all the points of the class; we had a small coding project at the end of the semester also. Teaching style is dry and straightforward, but she mentions dogs in almost all lectures which helps. a little
I really enjoyed this class! Her notes and slides were great and easy to follow, she even brought in her dog for demos on specific topics. She made learning psychology a lot more personal and fun! She also allows extra credit by participating in online studies which is very helpful!
I was looking forward to taking Professor Addington's class because I had heard good things about her. However, I could NOT sit through her lectures. She rambled on and on about example context rather than just teaching. I also feel like I got absolutely nothing from her lectures and only learned from lab.
I liked Addington. She is very knowledgable on psych and I liked what I was learning. The first test is really hard but after that it gets easier because there is less material on the exams. She posts all of them online which is nice. The extra credit saved me. She also brings in her dog to class a few times which was really cute.
Her lectures were so boring and unnecessarily long. It was a struggle to get through her class.
I already took this class in high school and I put in the effort (showed up to lecture, read the textbook, etc.) but her test and quiz questions tended to be worded in an odd way where I would get questions wrong even if I knew the material. Lectures weren't incredibly helpful as she would read word for word off of her posted slides
No point in going to lectures because she just reads off the slides. Only go to lecture if you wanna catch the 1-2 sentences she adds to a topic that somehow end up as a test question. Class seems unnecessary hard.
I had to study about 20 hours per exam in this class. I thought this was normal for Psych 202 at Madison, but other professors are apparently a lot easier. Take it with another professor!!
her lectures were a waste of time. literally just read the book while looking at her notes posted and you'll be fine. and 2nd, her exams are absolutely just random and worded poorly. even if you know something the exam will find a loophole. If you don't have to take her, then don't. save yourself before its too late... also her dog smells
Very kind and accommodating. Brings her dog to class sometimes. Great psych professor
Tests are all application based which is harder but she has lots of resources to help your grade including extra credit opportunities and she records all of her lectures which is really nice. Her powerpoints are a bit scattered but overall I think she's a totally decent and fair teacher and I'm not sure why people dislike her class.
Besides seeing her dog, she's a good professor. However her 4 exams are brutal, 1 exam got a 23/60 but turn into 30 due curve. However after that I've been ranging from B to A. Just make sure to study the things she has in the study guide, extra credit carries. And TA sucks for short essay. Beware of trap answers, make sure you read it throughly
Her lectures were recorded by sometimes a bit rambling. She got behind in my section multiple times and had us try and catch up by watching lectures from her other section which was a bit frustrating since our exam was almost a week before theirs. She's caring and understanding but her tests are pretty rough.
Addington had really really hard tests. To get a passing grade on the exams, I had to know the textbook inside and out. Much of what you are tested on you have to learn yourself by reading the textbook. Work load was pretty light but the readings take a long time. Don't make the mistake I did by taking Psych 202 with her.
Lectures consisted of her reading the PowerPoints almost word for word, but the good thing is the lectures were recorded. Exams are a big part of her grading system. Reading the textbook is a must.
Becky was overall okay. Had a strict grading TA. She recorded lectures but I still went to almost all of them. Not very lenient on accommodations. Lots and lots of info but the exams were relatively easy if you studied and put effort into the class.
Whoever is saying she is a good professor is lying to you. You is absolutely terrible. She gives no help whatsoever in lecture and all questions on the exam come from the textbook. Do NOT take her class ever.
I just didn't like her class.
Professor Addington is a really interesting lecturer that shows enthusiasm during lectures. Although the textbook involves a lot of reading, the information was broken down more simply through different categories and videos during the lectures.
Lectures were average and was just professor Addington reading off the slides. I found the best way to study was to review the questions she gave on study guides (I gave up on reading the textbook and looked up book review questions.) Do extra credit, roughly 85% of AB's got bumped to an A because of it. She brings her dog to class which is cool.
Prof. Addington's lectures are quite monotone and hard to sit through at times. Her exams were too long for the given timeframe, many students did not finish by the end of the exam period. The lack of lecture recordings made studying much more difficult. Homework is turned in at the Psych building, so be prepared to walk. Not tech friendly.
Very understanding teacher. Class was interesting and she posted the lectures on the canvas page. So if you missed a class or wanted to review you could just go back and see all the lectures. Before exams I would just go back and watch the lectures again. Great teacher.
Addington is a solid professor. Lectures are all slides and her explaining them (posts recordings online). 4 midterms are brutal/wordy (YOU WILL DO BAD ON THE FIRST ONE). You need to listen to recordings or go to lectures, understand the information, skim the textbook, and be able to apply concepts for exams. Do study guides. Extra credit carries.
She covers a lot of material each lecture so it is super important that you go to lecture or watch the recordings in depth and take good notes. About 85% of the exam questions are from lecture and make sure to answer all the questions on the exam review sheet, they are extremely helpful. She is super understanding and helpful if you need help.
Great person, is very nice, but the exams are extremely specific. Attention to lectures is very important but she does record lectures.
Prof. Addington literally read slides the entire class and then gave a test that was too long for the allotted time period. Worst teacher I have had in a long time.
Addington just read off slides the entire time and was unengaging. She does bring her dog to class which was cool but that was only twice. The main problem I had with Addington is that compared to my friends tests with other professors, hers were unusually difficult. She would always throw in like 4 questions that were never touched on in class.
Dr. Addington was overall an okay professor. Her exams were not a complete reflection of the material and were often difficult to prepare for. She would teach straight from the slides and found that you would be better off just reading them.
She is a good lecturer; I found her pretty funny and easy to listen to. She can be tough at times and is straightforward. The slides have all of the information for the exams. It is easy to know what the material on the exam will be.
Her lectures are very boring, tests aren't easy, and short essay questions are graded harshly for an intro level course.
The four exams determine your grade. My grade fell from a B to a BC just because of the final exam, and my grade is non-negotiable. I even spent hours doing extra credit research studies and I still received a BC. I always studied hard for the exams and I perform well academically in other classes, however, this class has been a disaster.
very boring class with very difficult exams and an even more disappointing curve
The class is very straightforward and Addington provides everything you need to know for the test in lecture. The exams are pretty easy as long as you memorized the definitions given in class. The only thing that is difficult is the short essays since they are graded harshly.
Do not take this class if you are an average student. It was unnecessarily hard, and there is no extra credit, or room to increase your grade. The class is also very long and you mostly have to teach yourself the material.
As someone who took AP psych in high school, I had a hard time with her class. I understood the material overall, but the exams were so poorly written and difficult to understand that it hindered my ability to do well. I went to all her exam review sessions, 90% of her classes and still only ended with a C.
The lectures were long and boring. Grade is based on three exams and weekly homework assignments. Exams are heavily based on lectures I recommend taking this class online over the summer if math isn't your strong suit. Addington is really nice though but if the teaching style doesn't work for you, don't take the class.
She posts the lectures online so they are nice to review and attendance isn't mandatory. But we often were very behind other classes in lectures which made tests more difficult because we were cramming important information right before the exam. The TAs grade the short essays very hard and have a very strict rubric.
While I am very interested in psychology, Addington just reads straight off of the slides and makes it hard to actually understand the material that way. Also, she ALWAYS says she will upload something or email us something over the weekend and NEVER does - I'd get if it was once, but it's like every week. This class is not the worst I guess.
Can't ever stay on topic, I don't think we have ever gotten through a full set of slides in class because she'd rather talk about dogs than teach. Takes at least a week or two to reply to emails, and sometimes doesn't show up to her own office hours w/out notice. She makes the class and passing 3x harder than it should be, dont take her classes.
never ever take her for psych 202 please. tests are ridiculously difficult for no reason and it is just hard to get retain information from her atrocious lectures. we have never been on track for her lectures due to her poorly adjusted schedules and are always covering topics from the lecture before. also, the TA does not care about your grade!!!
she doesnt use an oxford comma. enough said.
While Addington isn't the best lecturer (gets off track, has made us behind, bit disorganized, etc.) her class is very possible- going to lecture and her exam reviews are KEY to doing well- take notes on ALL her examples! Her exam questions are mainly specific scenarios she talks about in lecture. Don't bother w/ readings except for exam review Q's
Lecture is a waste of time as she spends half of it talking about dogs instead of stats. You have to learn everything on your own. I took AP Stats so I knew all the content but still barely passing because of the complex questions and grading. Grade is HEAVY!! on exams. Even more than my calc class. If you fail an exam, prepare to fail the class.
She is a fine lecturer, I disagree with all of the negative comments about her. I didn't go to lecture, just memorized the terms from the slides and got an A. You can't blame the professor for your bad grade if she gives you everything you need to succeed. There are 3 exams and none of them are cumulative.
the person below me is literally addington on an alt account or just lying for no reason. her lectures are atrocious and you literally cannot get an A for just remembering all the terms and not attending class. we are always behind on lectures for no reason and we never even covered all the material.
She's clearly a really nice person and knowledgable in her field. She spends lots of time going over the background of psychology studies for the stats tests which may be helpful for some, but I found it redundant. As someone who took stats before, this was an easy class.
Overall this class was made very difficult. Our short essays were more difficult and graded harder bringing your grade down on what should be an easy assignment. No practice tests or materials were given besides a study guide. The lectures are recorded but we often had to go over material that was supposed to be in the lecture on our own.
Addington is extremely frustrating as she constantly over promises and under delivers. She's slow to grade exams (all scantron) and the grading for short essays is tough. You only get credit on weekly quizzes for 100% but some questions were worded awfully. Tests were easy, basically just her lecture slides, and lots of XC so an A wasn't that hard.
The first test of the year I studied so so so hard and got an A. Then it went downhill from there. Tests are hard despite studying and lectures are boring and straight off the slides. Homework was graded hard with no explanations as to why. The 4 tests basically make up your grade and the homework has a bigger impact that perceived which was tough
Addington was hands down the worst professor I have ever had. If you can take psych 202 with anyone else, please do. Exams were given on topics never covered, and the lectures were read directly off slides. She only used examples pertaining to her career of dog training, which was irrelevant and not helpful. Please save yourself while you can
Addington runs a fair introductory psych course. Two lectures, weekly quizzes and weekly short-answer questions, four non-cumulative exams. Lectures can be quite dry, but pay attention and read the book, you'll get an easy A. 15 extra credit points are offered on top of the 300 point course load through extra quizzes and online research studies
She tested on very specific information and made the exams extremely hard. Provided no practice exams or questions to go through. She also would test on specific information from research studies. The short answers due every week were graded harshly and brought down your grade. Overall do not take her, take any other professor for this class.
Professor Adddington is a very fair professor. If you attend lecture, do the homework, and the extra practice questions, you will be able to succeed in the class. She is also very accessible in office hours, and happy to answer questions.
She is an okay professor. She knows a lot about the psychology of human-animal interaction as she is a dog trainer outside of being a professor, but she isn't the most interesting lecturer and is slow to grade homework and projects despite assigning many assignments. The content is very interesting if you like animals, but can be obvious at times.
No extra credit opportunities at all. Your grade is completely dependent on two exams and the final. Made exams extremely difficult and impossible to answer according to her standards. Made one question 10,15,20+ points each (could have been one singular sentence, and if wrong you lose 20 points). Cannot improve by any means after bad first exam.
She has zero anticipation during her lectures, which makes learning just super boring. She's and extremely hard grader, and she constantly talks about her dog training which gets very annoying. Don't recommend.
Terrible lectures that are hard to follow and understand the information being told. With lecture being mandatory it is almost better to just go through the textbook during class because it takes so long to go through. Watch the videos from lecture after class to save time. A lot of terms to remember that she doesn't give the definition for
Hands down the worst professor on campus. If you have to take psych 202, do not take it with her. No matter what others say, unless this class is way above priority level compared to your others, its not worth it.
Tests are tough, lectures boring, and grading harsh. But with focus and unstuck ai for exam prep, you can still pull off an A. Just don't expect much help from the professor.
Watch the lecture videos and go over the review sheets! I also took 210 with her which required a little more than just the lectures but lab is very helpful. She basically gives you everything you need to know for the exam. She is also nice if you talk to her one-on-one and she makes an effort to know her students (in the smaller classes at least).
She doesn't show up for 4 weeks and provides little to no reparations. I did bad on the tests because she just isn't even teaching and now she isn't posting old lectures for us because this isn't an online course but we were literally forced to make it one? I hate this class and am very disappointed by the professor.
If you have to take Psych 202, do it with anyone else. Lectures are monotonous and boring, (she just reads off the slides) but you have to go a certain number of times a semester. Mostly exam based, but no practice exams are given, so it is only based off of your own studying and comprehension of the vocab terms, lots of application questions.
While she was gone due to an accident and being unable to make it to lecture, when she was teaching the course it was at times, hard to follow and understand what was going on in lecture. I pretty much had to teach myself everything in the class from the textbook (which is very long readings every week) and reviewing the lecture slides.
Lectures were extremely boring and she just read off the slides which seemed poorly made. I got more enjoyment out of reading the textbook then lectures. After Addington's mysterious disappearance and a month of canceled class, Jonathan Gallimore taught our lectures. He clearly cared about the subject and made lectures enjoyable. Take it with him!
I took AP Stats in high school and I still struggled heavily with this class. Lectures were extremely unclear, basically had to self teach yourself the content to learn anything. Averages on tests were 60% and had barely any curve. Test questions did not match lecture material. She spent more time talking about her dogs than teaching stats.
Addington was alright for the weeks we had her. She got into an accident this semester and was literally physically unable to walk, so it is disheartening to see complaints about her not showing up. Her lectures were monotonous, but the information is easy enough to learn just from the lecture slides and making flashcards. Extra credit too.
If you're good at auditory learning and retaining information then you'll find this class easier than others. The lectures feel long and are taught slowly. I saw that many people were sidetracked on their computers rather than note taking because they were bored; I don't blame them. Tests are difficult and HW adds up quickly. Must study and read TB
I just genuinely hates her. She is terrible. She got injured so she made us watch past semesters' recordings without cropping them, instead, she was like start from 20:46 and end this video at 45:34 and start another video at...The final exam is heavy-cumulative, which makes no sense since she was lacking on teaching and had to find a substitute.
Most difficult class I've ever taken. Tutored 3x a week & still had panic attacks ab how difficult this class was. She wrote exams, Henriques taught. Hw and exams graded HARSHLY. This is the class you worry ab passing. Avg on exams is a D. Educated, but very poor professor. U must teach urself outside of class or be a bot to do okay. DISORGANIZED.
Prof. Addington knows what she's doing but isn't good at preparing you for the exams. Most of the material from lectures and the textbook is straightforward. Even if you learned them you'd still have to learn beyond to get a good exam score. The TAs are very strict on quizzes and are not lenient. Do the Extra Credit as it'll boost you up 5%.
Her TA easily tanks the class average. Her TA grades every written assignment and takes off little half points here and there that are the difference between an A and a B. She was also gone for more than half the semester making the class even harder to do well in. No compensation for her absences was given at the end of the semester either.
Abandoned her students mid semester, no curve on any test after. get ready to know every niche subject in the textook
Do not take 210 ever unless absolutely required. And if it is, take henriquez. I took 202 with her and it was fine/good. After how poorly 210 was dealt with this semester I have nothing but negative things to say and will never take another course of hers. Save yourself the fruitless time and effort.
Honestly the TA you get for this class matters drastically. Mine was amazing, while the other I heard was awful and graded harshly. I had Addington for 202, and don't mind her teaching style; however, an AP stats background greatly helped me here. If you don't like stats, or have had Addington before and didn't like her, take another professor.
Everything on exams was straight from lectures. You can tell she cares about students & was nice to accommodate me when I was sick. Not the best class, but it's okay. I even took 210 with her which was more difficult but she breaks stuff down. The exams were harder than the homework which sucked, but I did notice she made a point to learn our names
Nice person but a horrible lecturer. Every lecture is extremely boring and slow. She overexplains everything. The pacing of the class is really weird in terms of content. The tests were unnecessarily hard (average score was 60% on first test). I took stats before and she made me question if I really knew stats. Leave each class with a headache.
Take with any other professor if you can. Only way to survive and get a decent grade is a good TA who explains examples during lab. Attendance is mandatory but lecture is unhelpful. Tangents that provide no understanding. Behind in content but still tested on things we haven't covered yet. Have to follow along with her writing on a piece of paper.
Falls behind on class content schedule/Gives examples in class that turn into stories not related to helpful material overcomplicating it/Material on tests does not accurately reflect content in lecture/Attendance is mandatory but I've been better off reading the textbook/Explain processes behind everything on tests even if she doesnt explain it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR/you will fail this class regardless of how much effort u put in/she sabotages you/the exam questions are paragraphs/there is no curve/she wastes the whole lecture talking about dogs/attendance is REQUIRED yet you will learn nothing for the whole 1 and 15/seriously take another professor this is a warning
Please do not take the class with her! My TA's discussions were more helpful than her lectures. She does not align her lectures with homework bc it consisted of material from the following lecture. She yaps about examples for too long, that it starts to make no sense. She made me hate a class I took a great interest in.
Very disorganized, slow grading, confusing when walking through problems
she is brutal. Exams do not reflect what you actually learn in class. Had to drop the class because thats how brutal her grading policies are. Please take literally any other professor besides her for 210. Please please please
She was excellent at explaining the concepts. Class was laid out very clearly.
I really liked her. Her lectures were very straightforward and she even tells you what concepts to study before the exam. I found the exams to be pretty easy. She also does review sessions before the exams which help alot and she records all of her lectures.
If you're struggling, go to office hours and talk to your TA. I had 210, it was tough but if you use the resources available to you it's fine. Very friendly at office hours. Participating in lecture helps.
This professor read off of the slides that she presented and all of the slides were taken off of the textbook in class. Every example.
Her lectures are very BORING you could fall asleep. She basically reads off of the slides and attendance is mandatory. Exams are also extremely hard and toughly graded. But she gives extra credit opportunity tho.
"Teaching" is just reading slides with mandatory lectures. Extremely difficult to stay engaged as learning is purely listening. TAs are harsh with grading short essays and quizzes are either get 100% or 0%. For example, my 0.9/1 quiz was regraded to a 0/1. Midterm was also very specific and exhausting to know every detail despite immense studying
Lowkey the class isn't that bad, but hope you get a good TA. The TA we currently have is horrific and doesn't do her job well. Addington also just reads off of slides in the most monotone voice. Puts me to sleep
Professor Addington cares deeply about her students, her lectures can be long and sometimes boring however thats college for you. Do the extra credit, if you do all you have to do is shoot for an 87% for an A.
It's so so so hard to get a good score on an elementary course by her. I have reviewed all the key points for each test for at least 6 hours every night before tests. I must tell you for me a person who has never taken any psych courses before. You can only get a B for the most with all extra credits. I got A for all of my rest courses. Be careful!
She is a terrible person. She laughs at things like 911 and sexual assault of children. As a victim myself, it makes me scared and uncomfortable. DO NOT TAKE BECKY.
One of the better professors to get for this class, even though lectures are pretty boring. There are 4 exams throughout the semester that are not cumulative--literally a lifesaver because this class has A LOT of content. The material isn't hard, but I would recommend at least skimming the reading.
I liked the professor but the class was concept based, ALL OF IT. I had to drop the course, it's really hard to go back to a C or above after scoring so low in the first exam.. this isn't a class where you can prep the night before.. good luck if you're taking this class.
I personally did not hate the lectures and thought she was good overall at explaining concepts, but make sure that you study for at least a week in advance. DO NOT LISTEN to her when she says something is not on the test and you do not need to study it because it WILL be on the test! 100% do the extra credit because it boosts your grade so much.
Becky moves fast through lectures, so pay attention, and also note the videos and studies she shows because they appear on the tests. Never listen when she says something won't be on the test; it will. She is very reachable by email, even more than the TA. She reads off the slides but provides good information along with them. Do the extra credit!
It is tough to say Dr. Addington was a good lecturer, she was fair. I will say do not pay attention to literally anything she says, use the exam review sheet for reference. If you study that sheet religiously, you should be fine. The first exam is extremely difficult, and if you do not prepare, you will get punched in the mouth. DO THE EC!!
