I took the online course, which I thought was pretty easy. Also, KEEP in contact with her. She likes to feel helpful, and if you send her your essays, she will tell you exactly what to do to get an A if you need one

Great class! She definitely requires you to think. You have to work hard to get A's. She will do whatever she can to help you succeed. All you have to do is ask. Extremely organized. Pop Culture was fun and interesting. It made writing a lot more enjoyable. I would take this class again in a heartbeat. I have only positive things to say about her.

She is awesome! As long as you do your work and honestly try, you should make an A. I took both 1301 and 1302 online and never had a problem although, take into consideration that I am a writing nut! She is very helpful if you need her and even gave us her home phone in case of a homework emergency. I would absolutely take her classes again.

She is a teacher you will never forget. I took two of her online courses. They were extremely organized. This teacher is always available to help you if you don't understand the assignment. You will have to work to get an A. She rewards her students for their efforts and offers extra credit assignments. I highly recommend this teacher.

Ms. Balcarcel is one of the best teachers for English I know of. Her class is so much fun! She grades VERY fair. Some times she can be a bit random and disorganized, but that’s part of what made this class fun. There are no tests, BUT four major assignments. If you do not complete all four you will fail. If you love to write then take this class.

I loved Creative Writing I; great class. Prof. Balcarcel is challenging yet nice, smart yet non-elitist, and extremely attractive. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in writing.

Prof. Balcarcel is a easy and fun teacher. There is daily writing assignments but its a creative writing class! Got an A. Must show up for class, you wont pass other wise!

I took the Pop Culture section and loved it. Our assignments were watching popular movies, (instead of buying a textbook)then writing about them. Not as easy as it sounds because she requires you put serious thought into your papers. But she made it fun and she was very helpful. She told us up front exactly what was required for an 'A'.

Prof. B is totally awesome! She helps you discover how to truly write creatively.

Pop Culture. This is a great alternative to reading textbooks. We watched 10 movies, wrote 4 papers, and posted our thoughts on the discussion forums. We also learned cinema vocab. Very cool!

Prof. B was a great teacher who really understood what she was reading and was able to translate it easily to where we could understand it. English usually puts me to sleep, but I only slept half of the time in her class.

Pop culture class was way cool

World lit to 1650...difficult material becomes fun! I loved taking this class. It was challenging, but in a good way! She loves what she does so her online lessons are fun to read. Its a LOT of work but I came out with one of the best grades I have received in 3 semesters (and it was an honors class!) Do the controvertial stuff and she'll love you!

I took Professor Balcarcel's online Comp II class. She's quite rigorous (yes, you'll need to write in this class) but she's fair. You'll learn a great deal from her about essay format. She does take several days (3-5) to answer emails, but she also gives her home phone number and has no problem with students calling with questions.

If you are thinking of taking Comp 2 via web and in the summer or mini terms you better be really good at English and or have plenty of time to give. I was able to do well because I had plenty of time and I am a decent writer. It was a very hard earned A. Ms. Balcarcel is fair and helpful; will get to your emails within 24-48 hrs.

If you actually enjoy literature, you'll like her. She does take a while to respond to emails, but it will happen. In my class, she gave her personal # to the students in case emailing was a problem. She also appreciates respectful feedback, even criticism. It's not a blowoff class, but she does make her expectations clear. She's a good teacher.

I enjoyed her class. She does take FOREVER to respond to email, but her instructions for assignments are pretty clear. I consider myself a good writer, and still feel like I learned a lot about essay structure from her. Positive person, always willing to help.

Had her for creative writing, she helped me so mch. 100% expanded my brain. LOVED this class, shes amazing, very artistic! Take her!

I haven't been to college in a long time (2+ years) so I was a little worried about how well I would do, especially in an English class with lots of writing required. Rebecca's program made it easy for me to transition into the course and am happy to say I passed. I do hope there are more teachers like her in my future classes.-John

This teacher is amazing! She really knows how to explain things in a way that, if you take the time, you are garaunteed to learn. No, this is not some super easy blow-off class. BUT, if you do the work, you WILL get the grade!

I took this class online with the Pop-Culture emphasis, meaning we wrote about films. The topics we had to write on were engaging, and I'd recommend it over the traditional composition class. I did learn from this class and I do feel my writing has improved. She may be hard to get a hold of but she always got back to me in about a day's time.

I took her for Pop Culture Engl Comp 1. She is an awesome teacher. She is very understanding and caring and she actually gives you honest feedback to help you become a better writer.

Online class doesnt need book, all online. Way too heavy on the poetry and weird stories. Very friendly and approachable. A little tough on grading, but not mean about it. I like her, just hate the topics she makes us write about. Not an easy A, but if you put in the work, it is possible and not too hard. Overall, she nice.

I took her online class, there is alot of work but if you commit to it, it's easy. I took the pop culture class and all of the assignments centered around movies, which made the class fun. She is very good at giving you feedback on where you can improve.

Professor B. is wonderful. She is very helpful and if you come to class and turn in assignments, you will do fine. If you want to be a writer, or even think you might want to be a writer, this class will really help you. If you just want an easy class, and you know how to write well, you will enjoy it.

I took the DL 1302 class. There was a huge amount of work. It was defiantly NOT a blow off. If you like english, it might be the class for you. If you just need to fulfill a requirement, it probably isn't. She was pleasant and helpful but I asked many times I don't think she graded all my papers. Would not recommend her class for the timid.

Took her online class for World Literature in Spring of 2012. Lots of reading, but the class is pretty straight-forward and interesting. I highly recommend taking her class.

I has her for creative writing, she is so fun and interesting. We wrote something about every week, and read them on Monday to class (optional to read aloud). She gives great feedback on what you can do to improve your writing. If you love to write, become a writer or thinking you may like writing; then start with her. She is awesome!

I was so happy to see that I didn't have to read a bunch of boring novels or a horrible textbook. She changes it to pop culture based around movies and you better be ready to write! Her change to the textbook was refreshing and she was available anytime to answer questions. Loved this class and hope that next professor is as good!

I took the online World Lit. to 1650 class. At the end of the class I had written up to 45 pages of pure writing over stories we were required to read (LONG STORIES). The class is veery time consuming, but leaves you with a broader knowledge of world literature. LEARNING EXPERIENCE!!

I recently took her online for World Lit and I really enjoyed her class. It is a lot of reading so make sure you manage your time. Assignments are due Monday night but she gives you a 24hr grace period if needed.

Professor Balcarcel is FABULOUS! I took her creative writing class and she made it very interesting. Instead of an expensive textbook she used her own book of writings and the campus literary journal so she could more easily explain the POV of the author.... AWESOME! She is sweet and helpful and has a love for teaching! Take any class she teaches!

Amazing online class!! I wouldn't say easy, because there was some work, but she walks you through every part of it in her online lessons that she posts. Do the work and you'll do great! She takes a while to post ggrades, but eventually they are there. And if you need help she gives her cell number. I totally recommend this class to everyone!!

I love Rebecca! She is available to answer any questions you have and never makes you feel that a question is dumb. I took both English I and begged to get into her II class when found out she was teaching. She is awesome and really allows you to find what works for you in her class!

Great professor! If you love reading, this is the class for you. Her quizzes and exams are all essay questions designed to make sure you understand what you read, (or watched in some cases), but I found them interesting and fun to do. She gives great feedback, solves any technical problems quickly, and is passionate about her subject. Love her!

She is a very helpful professor and you will love being in her class. There are writing assignments pretty much every weekend, but they shouldn't take you too long. Being in class is not absolutely mandatory, however, she has almost-daily in-class assignments and they add up fast. I LOVE her, she is amazing and kind. Take her!

We watched movies instead of reading books - very cool. Miss Balcarcel was always available and helpful, willing to admit her mistakes (rare!), and /extremely/ clear about her expectations. She's tough, but if you follow directions and apply yourself, you'll be fine. Tons of writing assignments, but everything was fun. Loved this class!

Took her online class and received an A. Lots of homework and quizzes. LOTS of reading, but hey, it's an ENGLISH class. As long as you do the work and show that you're trying you'll do great. Many videos and movies to watch and write paragraphs over. She is very explanatory and gives you a written lesson she creates for each week. Highly recommend.

Professor B is an outstanding professor. I took this online, but the instructions were clear and concise with no textbook. She makes this class challenging, but she makes you a better writer with her constructive feedback. She is very nice and professional. I liked that I could text her if I had a question, and she answered quickly.

Her particular course stressed pop culture, but she does mix it up and keeps you interested in the course. Her grading isn't too harsh, and she is easy to reach for questions if you have them. She always gives good feedback and tries to help you improve on your writing.

She wings the class. She can make you a better writer. Expect to write a bunch at first. It is a very fun class and she is a very considerate and easy-goinggentle person.

I really love this prof. She is such a sweet lady and you can tell she really cares. As long as you show up and do her short, easy writing assignments you'll get an A. I read her syllabus before I took her class and it kinda freaked me out because it made her seem strict but it really isn't like that at all. I REALLY recommend her.

If you enjoy doing homework every single class, and you enjoy writting 1-2 papers each week then take her for Creative Writting. It is by far the most structured creative writting class I have ever taken, and although a great prof, she needs to losen the reigns on requirements when it comes to being "Creative". More structured than both Comp 1&2.

Prof. Balcarcel is such a sweetheart! I am currently taking her Composition I class and it exceeded expectations. She manages to engage all students with very interesting lessons. Her grading is amazing, she gives good feedback as to why you received whatever grade she has given you. She really strives to improve your writing. Would take this again

Professor Balcarcel has such a great personality and a clear understanding of how to teach a composition class. There are several large papers to write, but she gives step by step instruction and plenty of time. I'll definitely be taking her for COMP2.

Professor B is an amazing teacher. She gives a good feedback on all of your assignments. She also helps you with the title if you don't know what to write about on the essay. She gives a lot of time to work on your essays. She response quick to your emails. I would definitely take her for composition 2 but it didn't fit with my other schedule :(

I took her for Comp 1301 and she was very good, easy A. Then I took her for Comp 1302, and she gave 10x more homework. And I felt like she graded a lot harder. Also this whole semester was over poetry. So if you don't enjoy poetry, don't take her class for comp 1302.

I love this professor! I took her for comp1&2. she doesn't give out tests maybe just one quiz for the whole semester. homework just about every day in the discussion board but it's fairly simple. attendance is mandatory. she goes by points so every assignment counts! no final exam. i've become a better writer because of her. definitely take her!

I've taken 2 of her classes because she is just an amazing professor. She doesn't just give you an assignment and expect you to write a paper in one night. She helps you with your topic and with ways you could make your essay better. There is daily in class work and homework so you def cant miss class. She is AMAZING

I enjoyed ENGL1301 (Comp I) with Professor Balcarcel. You will have some papers to write, but it's an English class so that shouldn't be surprising. She helps you structure your papers so you are never at a loss for what's expected. She gives great feedback on your work and really wants you to learn. I highly recommend her.

Professor Balcarcel is an amazing, caring, and highly respected professor who shows an absolute understanding of the material. This class is not the easiest but it is extremely entertaining and you will learn everything you need if you pay attention.

I really liked Ms. Balcarcel. I took her spring 2018. She was inspirational and a very nice lady. Be sure to do all your papers and homework assignments to get an Easy A. There were no quizzes or tests and the final is to read one of your papers. It was a very interesting but fun class.

She's a wonderful woman so sweet and cares for her students. She does tend to give out a lot of homework, more like every night. You do need to read the things she assigns because she lectures based on them and then your essay will be off of the reading too, she is a hard grader but will give you feedback on every assignment. Her work is not hard.

She really cares about the subject she teaches about which makes taking her class really enjoyable. All of the writing prompts were pretty simple. She expects you to do you best and as long as you do you get a good grade.

She is willing to give extensions on work when needed as long as you contact her, and is fairly quick to respond to messages and emails. She is very clear on her writing criteria for papers, and oftentimes goes over the assignments with us. Amazing course and teacher!!!

Professor Balcarcel is by far one of the best English teachers I have ever had. Her grading is clear and she writes notes that help you know what could have been better. Her lectures were so incredibly easy to understand and it was easier than my AP English class in high school. She is so sweet and her homework is very doable and easy!

Just follow the clear instructions and it should be pretty easy and not crazy time-consuming! Best English teacher!

Absolutely adored Professor B! She's kind and genuinely cares about your success. If you're already an advanced writer you may find some of the class content boring, but it was still worth it in the long run. We did about three essays and there were small, weekly assignments due Wednesdays and Sundays. Offered to write recommendation letter, too!

She was really cool until I got my first essay grade back!! Essay's she prefers story based and descriptive details. She's very cool if you need help!! She literally gives you the answers with in person assingments, you just gotta ask. Just make sure you take your time on essays and START AHEAD OF TIME. Go to the writing center for help as well.

Professor Balcarcel provided valuable insight into publishing companies and self-publishing. The assignments she set for us challenged us to grow our creative writing skills. Objectively my favorite professor thus far. She's very engaging, appreciates questions and comments, and gives great feedback both on what you did well and what you could improve on. She's also just generally friendly and fun to learn from. I'm sad I don't have room in my schedule to take more of her classes next semester.
