For being such a hard and intimidating class, Becca really takes you step by step through the course. She gives you the tools and invokes confidence in her students. She made herself very avail. phone, internet and even personal tutoring if needed. 2exams+ Final. Just read and do all of the ?'S.
Rebecca bowers is a GREAT professor. Her lectures are very straight forward and her personality is genuine. I enjoyed her class very much so. Its alot of work but she'll help you through it.

take this class if you:1) can write at the speed of lightning to keep up with her lectures ..2) Love excessive homework that will take 8 hours out of your week ...3) like hard exams that will take 10 hours of your week to study for since she acts like everyone automatically knows this stuff.
im sorry but this lady gives loads of homework and hard tests. just because she doesn't have a life doesn't mean we don't! a little to hard! not specific about tests.
This lady gives honestly about 10 hours of homework a week. Hard class, extremely hard exams....you must dedicate your life and grace to pass it!

I know she tries to help u and all. But she probably could cut u some slack. She gives way too much. And her lab is ridiculous amounts of work for only being a 1 unit class.
I am sorry but this subject is hard enough without having to have a teacher give you 20 hours of study a week. she is insane...most of us have jobs or a family! and a life at that! i wish she would slow down or cut down
so far i have a C in this class. trust me it hasn't been easy. i know she thinks she tries to make things easy for us but she really does not. college professors have the power to make things easier and help us get a better grade...i wish she would so we all can pass. chem is hard tho!
hard class to begin with, pretty hard teacher..even tho she tries to help... but its ridiculous to have the final be cumulative of all 20 chapters when we are all struggling
Yes teacher is kinda hard.My grade was a B and I am stuggling to pass now. I am taking 6 classes though...suggestion: when you take chem make sure you only take one other class. Teacher seems to try to help as much as she can, but the final preview packets don't really match up with what is on it
yes she tries 2 help but expectations are 2high!understand having to do HW but @ least she could ease up on finals.rather do 100 hw's than 1 of her finals.43 people n clas n down to 21,would have been less but she wn't let drop if uve got low gr8d, so u r stuck.not 2 b mean but take ne 1 else u can
WAIT FOR ANOTHER TEACHER TO TAKE! YOU WILL END UP HAVING TO DROP OUT AND LOSE YOUR MONEY. DON'T TAKE UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO GIVE UP YOUR LIFE TO PASS. WAY TOO HARD ON STUDENTS. HER 1 unit LAB ENTAILS 5+ hours of HW a WEEK. JUST FOR THE LAB. INSANE!!!! I AGREE THAT SHE EXPECTS 2 MUCH FROM BEGINNER
I guess everyone else pretty much sums it up. Not that shes a bad person. She is just way too hard. I want a teacher that I can learn with instead of stressing about barely hanging in there. Pick another teacher or wait another semester. Our class is half of what it was. And maybe 13 people will pas
Hard subject. hard teacher. hard time getting a passing grade.........
she is definitely not forgiving. but she seems really smart. not sure where i really stand. but i probably wouldn't ever take her again, and definitely would avoid her for organic chemistry. if reg. chemistry is near impossible with her, organic has to be impossible. Just my 2 cents
Hmmm, let's just say, if you want to keep your GPA in good standing: AVOID THIS TEACHER. I love chemistry and I happen to be good at it. But she almost gives you too much to keep up. I am half half on her.
Oh, come on guys! She's really nice though. She grades easy. As long as you love Chemistry, you will get an A in her class easily. She gives extra credit to help you out. A lot of homework but very easy when you understand the material. Love her lab too. Tests are easy when you know what you're doin
i have a b in the class, trust me it hasnt been easy. no, she does not grade that easy, but she tries sometimes. but give me a break, her tests are pretty hard! other than that though, she will try to help her students. i dont think id recomm. if u have a job or want to take any other classes...
Like her a lot. I been failing the test and having trouble understanding the course but she got a lot of patience listening & helping me to learn. I think that if you show that you are interested, and willing to learn. She'll help you to pass. If you want to learn take her. Lazy? don't even try her.
no one who is lazy should be in college. its all about working hard. but i must agree. i wish i would have only taken chemistry alone this semester because her class does take up alot of time. she does try to help her students as much as she can it seems like.
i think she is overall a good teacher. a little bit much, but she is good. she makes herself available to help you. one thing though, her lab is ridiculous amounts of HW for only 1 unit. So is lecture, but at least that is understandable. I agree, make this the only class w/lab that u take. HARD
really good teacher but yes she does give absolutely way too much for the lab. i would also agree to take her class solo for the semester because it is hard. you will learn something though, but she has high expectations, so make sure youve got a heck of alot of time on your hands.
You know what I have a 68 percent in the class and Im doing everything to pass. But you can't say that this teacher doesnt try to help because she makes herself very available. Heck yeah its a hard class, so make it your priority and you will do good. I could be doing better but I took on too many classes. She gives you the grade you deserve.
i guess she isnt a bad teacher. i just think her lab is also too much work. she loosens up in the end. but she gave to much @ 1st. i am passing with a C.
i dunno how i feel. but i know i would suggest ne one who has a job or wants to take other classes..don't take her. shes a good teacher but way too much. i am sooo nervous about her exam
Although the class is alot of imformation to retain, Dr. Bowers is a wonderful teacher and she gives a trememdous amount of time outside of class to help us. Stop witching with a b about how hard it is and just deal with it. Most chem teachers would not going as much out of their way as Dr. Bowers. Again is it alot of work but its chem come on!
really good teacher, helps anytime you need it. lab is too much HW and i wish we had more time to really grasp the subject before going on to the next thing. but other than that, i would say to take her
she makes herself available to help but is sort of intimidating, not that shes mean. lecture is hard, i passed with a B. lab is ok, but absolutely ridiculous for being only 1 unit. this class and lab takes up way too much time
yea this class was hard I am problly gonna get a C or something but oh what the heck who cares anyway! she didnt care about me who wtf .. take the class if u have time on your hands if not than u are screwed
I work full-time and took 6 classes, but I got a C. Somebody sent some mass email complaining about it. TO be frank, I am tired of hearing all these little "A" students griping b/c they got a B or C. Give me a break, I got a C and I know I got what I deserved. Yes, this class should be taken alone!
this teacher makes every effort to help you out. hopefully her next class she runs smoother because this class was a bit much at first. but she was a good teacher. take her if you like a challenge and want to learn. but yes i agree, take this class alone if you want to get above a C.
Becca is great. She really wants her students to do well. She offered extra credit which was great. Do and understand the homework it will help you out on the test. The practice exams help too. She curves test a lot! She does everything in her power to help your grade. She offered tutoring on her own time (not payed). She is awesome take her!
She is a good teacher. But i think b/c this was her first Chem class that she was a bit unrealistic at first, but she helped us out alot in the end. i would suggest her if you like a challenge and want to learn, but if you are trying to boost your GPA, don't bother, unless you are willing to put in the work. you will have to earn it :)
Thank Goodness I passed w/ a C.was stressful.I semi-resented the teacher @ 1st but then realized she is actually a good teacher,BUT her lab class is absurd. For 1.0 unit u have 2 do labs & tons of HW!Dunno y she gives sooo much in that class. And trust me, it takes long. Lecture was ok. She sends slides and helps u as much as possible. STUDY HARD!!
I will be blunt. Her class sucked at first, it was way to much and people kept bombing the tests, her lab is too much time, but then she prob realized that...thanks to THAT anon. emailer, and gave us EC and helped a lot of us pass. I got a B, so I am content. But make sure if you need this class, she will make u earn ur grade. good lady though
Not an easy A class to begin with, and def. not an easy A with her. She is hard, but also will help. Don't take her if you expect a free ride. She'll make you learn it all! Good teacher, but only if you have the time b/c this class takes up most your life. ANd that is real. Would recommend if you have the time and dedication!
yes, her class was ridiculous amounts of work. she is a good teacher but she was doing too many trick questions on her test and that didnt help. she eventually changed it all b/c a lot of us were failing. i'd say 20 out of 45 people stayed and of those 20, about 17 passed. not too bad. this class demands attention tho!
Yes! her class was hard, at 1st, but she curved lots of grades & was very helpful. If U didn't make the effort on getting help w/her, then U can't COMPLAIN! U gots 2 work hard 4 the grade U want! I got a "B" & I'm content w/that, b-cuz' I know I didn't study hard enough. Just show up 2 class & take good notes. Don't 4get 2 study. She's really cool.
she will make you eat, sleep, breathe chemistry. She basically requires you memorize the whole book, its unreasonable. I know there are better o chem professors, dont take her unless you absolutely have to, she is just way too strict and expects way too much, beware, i guess she can be nice in her own devious way, goodluck
You know what... Chem is my subject.. and I get it and all, but she does give way too much and it is to the point of being ridiculous. I am assuming the people standing up for her dont have a job or any resposibilities and still live with mommy and daddy, which is fine and nothing wrong with that, but once you hit the real world, ull see wats up
You are going to learn the entire book, summer or not. This is a really difficult class to take over the summer if you have a job or other major time commitments. You have half the weekends to read and study but are still responsible for everything. Follow directions, read, study, and sweat for every point and earning an 'A' or 'B' is possible.
She is very nice and willing to help, Chemistry is should be a little hard. She sometimes is unclear and a little confusing, but if you need more help she is there for you, even on sundays.
This is a comment for the previous posting...."NO, I do-not live w/mommy nor daddy." and you should be reminded you're in college not HS! Drop it if you can't deal...Anyway, she's a good teacher. I agree she gives alot of work, especially for a summer class but if you do all your work you'll most def. get an A or B. She gives lots of X-credit pts.
Becca, Is the only instructor I've met who would take sundays off to meet students at Starbucks to help out. CHEMISTRY IS HARD. Indeed, she gives lots of work, I guess she wants it drilled into our heads. Many of us fall in diff. perdicuments like work, kids, other classes. As a person she's great. Curves Grades.
I think people need to stop sucking up. She is a good teacher but I dont recommend for someone who has a full time job or a family. Definitely stay away. But if you are a kid that doesnt have to support themselves. she is great!
taking her class was like taking an online class. you basically end up teaching yourself. good luck!
Dr.Bowers is a must if you need to take chem 130(she is helpful, friendly and gears the class towards allied health majors)Class is not a breeze tho, you HAVE to study and write papers, but I thought was easier than inorganic chem (152/100)Very interesting class but time consuming. use her powerpoints as flash cards Im a las.tmin crammer and got A
Clear lectures on a difficult subject. Provides powerpoints - helpful to make notes on during lecture. Exams on what's covered in class. Relates information to real world. Encourages class participation. Respectful of all students. I live between Mesa & City and drove to Miramar to take CHEM 130 with her. Glad I did! I highly recommend her class.
OChem is hard! But Bowers is a great teacher, she made it more interesting than I could have imagined, and I thought classes were pretty interesting. I would defiantly take her if you have the chance, it really is worth it. She will really make you know your stuff and work for an A but it is achievable! Good Luck~
this professor is good but her tests are hard. she doesn't curve grades & no mercy for it. a 79.9 is absolutely a "C" - no exucses, no further plea can be done. there's just no way that she'll even consider giving a "B" for that percentage. good luck if you want to take her.
I thought she was a great professor! Bowers was able to teach at a level for anyone to understand the material. Students still need to study of course, but overall she's a good teacher.
Great Professor! Chem 130 is a difficult class, but she made it easier with clear powerpoint lectures. She gives lots of concrete explanations to help comprehension. She is also VERY helpful and supportive. I really enjoyed her class and HIGHLY recommend taking it.
Dr. Bowers is by far the BEST chemistry teacher out there- She will absolutely go out of her way to help you---Its Organic chemistry of course its hard, but if you want to understand what you are learning TAKE HER!!! She will not move on in lecture unless EVERYONE understands! Highly RECOMMEND!
Organic chemistry wasn't easy, but I couldn't have had a better teacher. Lessons were well organized and clearly explained. Dr. Bowers is an excellent teacher and wonderful person as well. LOVED HER!!
No Doubt..theres a reason why I left this class for last...but Dr. Bowers is GREAT! Go 2 Class, STUDY, show effort (don't get behind)...you'll be fine. It's not easy but its totally Do-able!
She is a great teacher. Just do your work and don't stress out too much, just ask her if you don't have any clues.
Good, enthusiastic teacher. Answers all questions, helps out in lab. Study guides not really helpful for tests & NO extra credit! That hurts. 1 paper, 4 exams, 1 presentation. Take her if you have to take this class.
Awesome teacher!Highly recommend her!Tough course. She makes it doable.Study and don't fall behind.Took her for lecture and lab.She is nice, enthusiastic, clear, helpful, fair & supportive.Uses life examples to easily understand & relate to.Powerpoints are very helpful.4 exms 1 cumulative final 1 paper 1 presentation.Lab quiz most of time.Got an A.
Great professor! She uses great examples to explain abstract concepts of chemistry. Pros: PowerPoints, interesting lectures, gives practice quizzes and exams, opportunity for extra pts on exams, she is very helpful! Cons: Quiz almost every week in lab-not really a con b/c u learn a lot from the quizzes, and don't have lab exams.
I really enjoyed taking Chemistry with Dr. Bowers. She is extremely organized, and follows her word. I loved how she used current "in the news" Chemistry to explain some of the concepts. One of the best teachers I have had for Chemistry. She also went out of her way to meet with me, and I really appreciate that.
Very detailed and organized on the syllabus. This allows you to stay on top of the assignments and upcoming labs and tests. Be prepared to read and study for the exams! They have some matching and fill in the blank questions, but most of them consist of short answer questions.
Dr.Bowers is probably the best ochem prof in Miramar, extremely detailed & organized,& she made sure you understand the subject. But this course is very tough. I studied everyday, read (& reread) the book & did ALL the exercises in the book, so far I have an A. 4 exams (w/ 5 EC qs), 1 paper, 1 presentation. Take her if you want to pass this course.
One of my favorite teachers ever! Yes Ochem is a difficult class but she makes the course easy to learn. Book is helpful but she tends to refer to the slides from the exams. GO TO CLASS! You can get an A if you attend class and pay attention. Ask questions, and she will be happy to clear it up for you. I recommend her!
She is amazing!!!!! She is the sole reason the I loved Organic Chemistry!
Dr. Bowers is one of the best instructors I've ever had. I was terrified going into the course but she teaches the material with clarity and enthusiasm. Her office hours are fantastic, turnaround on grades are super quick, and all emails are promptly returned. If you're a nursing major, take this class BEFORE micro and physio, I wish I had.
Dr. Bowers is great for lecture and lab. If possible take her for both, the material compliments each other nicely. Labs are usually quick and you can finish early. Just a warning, be sure to read the lab procedure PRIOR to each class after the first few labs, most of the quizzes include procedure questions from the previous and current lab.
Dr. Bowers is the best! She loves what she does and is always more than willing to help you. Also has a sense of humor which is a plus! Make sure to read your text book and lab manual before class for preparation and quizes. Tests were everything you learn in class, so go! I highly recommend her class, it's tough but you learn a lot!
Definitly not the best teacher ive had. She is quite tough whn it comes to knowing reactions and information from memory. She spends enough time to only get the basic frame of information. Tests are hard, easy Lab class but lecture is torture.
Becca loves teaching and it shows. She really cares about students and she has a good sense of humor. She also really wants students to master the subject so she gives hard tests in Ochem. If you want to have more fun in a class with her, take BIO132. She gets the class involved. If you want to make an A in her classes, come prepared and study hard
She is the BEST !!! Not sure why people gives her a bad review. Don't expect to skate thru her class for an A. Whatever comes out of Dr. Bowers mouth in lectures is fair game that she will quiz/test you on it. Be prepare to study at least 6+ hrs outside of class, do your reading, practice, practice, Chemical reaction and nomenclature =Easy A+.SiMPL
Dr. Bowers is an excellent prof. I took her lab for intro chem. She's down to earth - explains things directly, answers questions directly, and is perfectly clear about assignments. She expects you to remember everything you do and learn in lab, but that does not make her hard, that makes her a good prof. Always read ahead and prepare for quizzes
Dr. Bowers is a great professor. Clean and clear lectures, lets you know exactly what to do and what is expected of you during labs. I would recommend.
She is a wonderful professor. Her class fills super fast. Take her if you can!
If you're taking lab Dr. Bowers is great. If you need help on something she will be happy to explain and sit there with you for as long as you need to help you understand. Definitely recommend, very nice and she knows how to teach. A little nit-picky when it comes to lab reports but the extra credit more than makes up for it. Do not skip class!
Great teacher. Really wants you to learn what she's teaching. Clear and concise. Stays on topic. No wandering of topics. If you want to learn biotechnology, take her classes.
Very fair !No extra credit sounds bad but her tests aren't bad at all, no homework but highly suggest doing problems from book that is what got me an A in the class go to her office hours too! You need to study , practice reactions & writing structures & names (u will understand once you take her) she gives Multiple choice practice exam which helps
Shes really good with creating relationships with her students. Caring and gives nice comments back on your work. Class is partially online and is CRUCIAL to passing the class. Its a must to doing all the online assignments. Every week there is a whole list of new assignments online. A tough class but worth it if you try
She made me fall in love with Ochem, she made everything she taught engaging and interesting and she always made herself available to explain things for people who didn't understand. very clear and direct with her expectations, just go to class and do the homework even though it's not required and you will do fine
The most amazing professor! I received an A from studying hard, taking good notes, attending office hours to get her help, and chem tutoring center. She doesn't assign homework, but it is important to work every problem in the chapter that she covers. She is there for you and will help you in any way you need, you just have to ask!!
An A is very achievable in Dr. Bowers class although it requires a lot of study time outside of class. Bowers is fantastic at lecturing on the material and uses a lot of analogies for better understanding of the concepts. Lab is very straight forward and there is a quiz each week. Bowers makes O CHEM extremely doable and INTERESTING!!
Don't miss class; she's very thorough. Slides avail; print them before class. Do the probs in the book; great way to prep for tests. She is always available (office hours or via email). Great instructor! She explains material in a way that's easy to comprehend. She will emphasize sections that WILL be on tests. Highly recommend!!
Great professor. I have an excellent time in the biotechnology class. Really knows the information and cares about student's progress. I would recommend Biology 131 to anyone regardless if they're interested in biotechnology
Amazing teacher! Very clear on what she wants from you throughout the semester. I hate chem and she made the material seem easy! Don't miss lecture, she explains everything very thoroughly. No homework, no extra credit, no dropped tests. Lecture: 1 research paper, 4 tests, 1 Final. Lab: Quiz every lab, points for lab and lab practical. TAKE HER!
Not very approachable, and she is difficult to ask questions to but her lectures are well organized and dynamite!
amazing teacher. you will love organic chemistry. She is well organized, its a hard class but she explains everything well
To all of the Science Professor I encounter, Professor Bowers is the Best!!! She made all the lectures very clear and she is well organized. Don't miss her lectures because she will emphasize sections that will be on tests. The subject it self is hard but she will explain it to the class in a very simple way and very easy to understand.
Thought this class was gonna be difficult just because of how difficult people say ochem is but Professor Bowers made this class as easy as possible to understand. Grade includes four exams, a cumulative final, and a project. As long as you attend lecture and put in your studying, an A is definitely doable!!
Very good feedback
Bowers is a great professor and makes her class very easy to get an A in if you're willing to learn the material. She's a pretty easy grader when it comes to free response. The practice exams online are super helpful. You could get away with not buying the textbook since her ppts are basically copy and pasted sections from the book.
Such an amazing teacher! Worth the drive Miramar campus to ensure you are getting a quality teacher for this course! Explains things really well, and makes it fun in process. She says get the textbook, but it's really not necessary if you're paying attention in class. Grade is only exams and one paper, which is a little bitter sweet..
Took Bower's for Chem 130 lecture and felt like taking her for lab was a good idea too (which it was)! She's a really amazing professor, explains things clearly and is always there to help. But know that there is no pressure to take HER lab with her lecture, because it is VERY early in the morning. Recommend still taking lab at Miramar though
Be ready to read! You need to read all labs before class and turn in Pre Labs. You will have a quiz every class. You only meet once a week, so you are in class for about 3 hours and yes.. you WILL be there the entire time! You learn a lot, pick a partner that will actually help you during the labs.
Amazing teacher! She is very fair and not a tough grader at all. She really helps you learn the material and cares for her students. Easy A as long as you study.
Dr. Bowers is a brilliant instructor! She explains some really difficult concepts in chemistry in a way that makes them palatable. Dynamic lectures, and surprisingly helpful during labs. Take this class for o-chem!
I was extremely disappointed with this professor, despite receiving an A in her class (possibly even the highest grade in the class). She was so cold, uncaring, and rude to me on multiple occasions. It became quite evident as to why she was only teaching online. I was very taken back by her unprofessional-ism and DO NOT RECOMMEND her. What a shame.
No HW, she covers everything that is going to be on the tests. Labs are straightforward and most groups finish in 2 hours or so. Practical is a piece of cake. Take good notes and find a good study group is key to getting a good grade in this class.
This professor has a true interest in her subject and explains the material very well. Very nice person! I got the impression that she thinks her chemistry class is the ONLY class you are taking and you are not working. She is extremely test and lecture heavy. I would not recommend taking her as I believe she makes a difficult subject even harder.
This professor is not the best as far as caring for students and helping them pass. She doesn't give extra credit and has you write a research paper 5-7 pages. There is no HW only 4 exams and a Final with the paper. Attendance isn't even consider for your grade. Your SOL if you're failing after the 2nd exam so I would drop the class if you failed.
100 are generally intro level courses. INTRODUCTORY courses. Broad/general overview of a topic without going too deeply. I felt like these courses were there to help students pick a major or field of study, but not in this class. Lectures are brief and exams are an overload. She even admits in class that most students aren't able to finish them.
Dr. Bowers is a great professor and absolutely knows her stuff. This class is extremely difficult. It is based on tests only. No extra credit, no drops, no curve. She designs her tests specifically so that you MUST KNOW everything. There is no time to go back or to think. Do take her if you have a solid base of chemistry. Don' take if you don't.
She does not care about her students. She is not helpful at all. When it comes to grading, she is strict and fair which is a good thing. Her classes are very good and organized. But it is just that if you approach her and ask a question she won't help, even though she is supposed to. I just don't understand why she behaves like this.
She was a little intimidating at first, but she is SO NICE and SO HELPFUL as long as you are respectful and show her that you are putting in the effort to learn. Her exams are fair and she is straightforward about what to expect.
Professor Bowers is a good teacher. She knows her subject very well. She is helpful and caring about her students. Her quizzes are good and easy.
Easiest lab class I've ever taken! She makes the material super easy to understand and gives clear instructions. If you're stuck on something, she gladly explains further and ensures you're doing your work right to avoid future mistakes. Working with a lab partner makes the workload much easier. Overall, would def recommend her class!!
Professor is unprofessional and does not care about students. She knows the material she's teaching but makes the class feel so difficult. Bad teaching style and very lengthy exams.
The class was informative. The exams were long and structure of the assignment deadlines were hard to manage. Multiple deadlines scattered throughout the week. Discussion posts were due on Friday morning, while modules due Sunday at 11 PM... Be careful to track the deadlines to avoid missing assignments if you have a busy life outside of school.
Good class. Easily manageable if you put in the time. Most of the work was done through an online text book program you had to purchase but beyond that it was a final and some discussion boards in the canvas. No late work what so ever... its crucial to stay on top of the work otherwise easy to get behind.
MAKE SURE to keep up with the assignments and their due dates/times. Assignments had very specific due times (10 am Fridays for discussions and 11 pm Sundays for modules), so be prepared to keep up and stay on time! She makes it very clear from the beginning that anything late will not be accepted. Also be prepared for a LOT of reading!
