Course work was a bit hard and dry at times. She expects a lot from her students. She is fair and can be understanding about being unable to finish reading. Does a lot to relate past history/lit to current day to make things interesting
Was a decent class, although she tended to dominate the conversations too much and wasn't very receptive to ideas she didn't agree with.
Although she typically does not teach Eng 220 she was a fantastic professor and I thought it was an excellent class. She expects a greal deal, but gives even more. She can be quite strict, but it keeps the class moving and free of distractions.
she is great. the class is very interesting because of her, i encourage english students to enroll in her classes.
She was a really good professor and I enjoyed her class a lot. She was not afraid to discuss anything and was thoroughly able to hold my interest. People should take her class.
She taught the class with a good grasp of the material, but because of a fast paced technique to satisfy all heads of the class, their wasn't any room for indepth discussions. I recommed her for anyone who likes shallow discussions and not deep discussions, you may not get much response.
A wonderful women. She made class an escape fom the typical boring classes. She provided humor and a truly delightful atmosphere to learn in.
Very impatient and has a tendency to be insulting, hurtful and condescending. However she teaches well so as long as you don't irritate her you're fine. Her grading is fair. Lots of work but it's helpful. Very strict about lateness and attendance. You'll learn a lot but subject to embarassment.
HIGHLY recommended. She pays close attention to detail and does not allow students to float through the course with an easy A. She not only increased interest for the course, she made me a better student. In the impersonal, uninspiring world of Hunter, Prof. Connor is a breath of fresh air :)
The only thing I didn't like was the abundance of comments that were left on my paper, she would literally write all over it. She also expects you to read a lot in a little amount of time and then not review it during the class session. She wasn't that bad but she's not my favorite prof.
Prof. Conner is a character! She will insult one student and compliment another on their appearance. She is neurotic at times, if you click your pen she will go ballistic. She is however a good prof. and makes a boring subject more interesting. Bring your A game to this professor.
Great teacher. She knows how to fix up your writing skills and gives you just the right criticisms, but still saves room for compliments where needed. She hates fidgeting and pen clicking and such, but you can get over that. Sometimes, I don't like the choice of poetry for responses, but I can deal.
Great Professor! She teaches very well and makes the class very interesting. She was very strict in the beginning about attendance and lateness but eased up later in the semester. She very reasonable with her grading. PArticipation is a must in this class. Otherwise she is a great professor with great teaching skills.
One of the best professors in Hunter. Take her class. It is a must!!!!!!!!!!
She is the best!!!
Neurotic, and anorexic. Nuff' said.
OBNOXIOUS.
ATTITUDE! Is abusive to the point of seeming psychotic. Always tells stories to make herself look good. TOTAL NARCICIST! AVOID!
Professor Connor can be picky at times, but if you ever wanted a teacher who edits and cleans up papers like a true pro, take her class! I absolutely loved this class. The readings weren't too long and, again, she will make you a better writer. She even allows re-writes!
Fabulous professor. Her class is nothing short of an enlightening experience.
This professor loves when students participate in her class! Participating is 30% of your final grade. You will be remembered by her if you participate! Her classes are somewhat interesting and weird! She's an EXTREMELY difficult grader! All I did on her class was poems, poems, poems and more poems, so if you hate poems don't take her class!!
Her class is always amusing. She's extremely bright. Nothing gets past her. Don't dare slack off. Her class was a pleasure.
classes are interesting enough. she insists on class participation, but she plays favorites and tends to cut you off. not a hard grader, though.
if you want a prof. that will change your life and make you a better writer, take her! yes, she can be tempermental, but just look past it. she loves her students, and she loves her job. you can talk to her about anything. take full advantage of her brilliant mind. she's the best professor i've ever had.
Absolutely hilarious and brilliant. Amazing professor, class talks are a pleasure.
I took Survey of Anglo-Saxon lit with her and initially I thought it was going to be the most boring class I'll ever have to take, but I was wrong. Professor Connor made the class enjoyable, she is funny and easy to to talk to. Extremely intelligent person and she's always willing to help. I think she will make any class she teaches enjoyable.
This professor is what you expect in a graduate level course-Thank you. Everyone should have this experience. Her class is not easy but well worth the effort. Yes she does write a great deal of notes on your papers but if you address them you will become a better writer. This is the first professor that helped me improve my writing.
I took her vampires class, and it was a waste of time. She goes on tangents during class and endlessly analyzes text. We didn't finish the syllabus, and I don't think we even finished any of the books. It was a very choppy class. She gives great, though intimidating, feedback on papers.
Prof. Connor is interesting, witty, and intelligent. She can sometimes be neurotic about things like pen-clicking and hat wearing in class, but just take the good with the bad. She made Anglo-Saxon Lit interesting, and she gives very helpful feedback on papers.
Not only interesting, but extremely nice as well :)
Professor Connor's neurotic behaviors got worse, but her sense of humor also heightened. She is always willing to help and her class is never boring. I can guarantee that you'll have an enjoyable time taking her course.
She is not a bad professor, but she has a very mean attitude about certain things. You can't tap or click a pen, can't wear hats in class, and your papers have to be the exact length, or else you will re-do them.
She is a tad OCD but I love her to death. She was my favorite class this semester. There were only like ten of us in class so it was really nice. This little intimate calss she let us talk and as long as we found textual evidence we were cool.
I can't believe that someone here has used the word "nice" as a descriptor of Professor Connor. I hated coming to class because she was so moody and mean. Take her course if you enjoy being mistreated.
I was initially thrown off by all the (admittedly mostly accurate) neuroses she harbors, as described by other students. But look beyond her dislike for pen-tapping and hats and she is a wonderful, intelligent, respectful, and honest teacher and person. Her papers are short and very straightforward and she doesn't give difficult work. Love her.
I registered this class thinking how much I'm going to hate it because it is simply not in my field of interest. However, Prof. Conner makes the class interesting and draws you into the subject. Her enthusiasm is infectious.
ughhh dont believe the good ratings...
neurotic? very! (hilarious to watch her crazy antics lol) doesnt allow free thinking. her opinions are apparently the only valid ones. Take the class its 50/50 chance you may like or you may not...depends
apparently her opinions are the only right ones
Maybe the best professor I have ever had. She's passionate, intelligent, and extremely helpful. I knew I loved 18th Century Lit going into her class, now I am even more certain. Her quirkiness is quite endearing,to tell you the truth. She has no patience for slackers, nor should she.
Her class is probably the best I've ever taken. She is funny, insightful, and engaging. I loved going to class and was actually sad when it was time to go--she is awesome.
the best professor ive had at hunter. she is simply amazing. very accessible and helpful; worth a visit to her office where you can speak with her one-on-one. she breaks down the material in an entertaining way. not much reading; spend 1-2 classes per reading to ensure clarity. I'm sad the semester is over!
Really great professor, funny, smart, and extremely helpful. Don't be an ass*ole and you'll do fine. Hot too.
Professor Connor is hilarious and an extremely intelligent individual. I always loved listening to her ridiculous stories about life that she always seemed to somehow tie into the lesson. She always made the class interesting with her wacky, neurotic tendencies. There wasn't a lot of work throughout the semester, but she expects class participation
Amazing professor. Extremely insightful and very helpful - as long as you go to her for help. She is very willing to help. She isn't an easy grader, but she definitely helps improve your writing. Makes the class so much more interesting than it would be. Great professor; you should definitely take her.
She is the only professor I ever truly wanted to rate on ratemyprofessors cause she is THAT great. She's very funny and reminds me of a more neurotic Helena Bonham Carter (whom I love!) Oh yeah, her class is pretty fun as well. Never a dull moment with this one.
Tough grader, because she expects you to turn in your best work and improve on it. Though she strays from the syllabus and it drives some people crazy, she has the ability to always keep a lecture going. I find that time flies in her classes because we never run out of topics. She's a bit wacky, but I would recommend her class to everyone.
While Prof. Connor is probably one of the most intelligent English profs at Hunter, she is not without flaws. She gets annoyed easily and can be downright rude to students, but then she can be extremely nice. Her grading is tough for such short one page papers, and she canceled class a lot more than students are even allowed.
Professor Connor is a brilliant teacher, and she's extraordinarily knowledgeable. She likes her students to perform to the best of their ability, and while she did grade my papers kind of harshly, it was ultimately judicious. She has snapped at some of my classmates before, but overall, she was great in the classroom and I would highly recommend.
AMAZING professor. extremely knowledgeable. her style of teaching is interesting especially because she relates the readings to current events. participation is extremely important so just do the readings, participate and youll be fine.
I took Professor Conner as an English Elective class, more specifically Vampires in Literature and Arts Class. Participation is 50% of your grade with no papers, only a midterm and a final. Attendance is mandatory and she will call you out if you do not participate, so basically come to class knowing your stuff and you will do fine.
I really don't like her. She is mean and she is not understanding of her students. She only cares about her side of the story. She doesn't explain clearly about the assignments she gives in class. She is rude and I was really dissatisfied by her class. She doesn't give you second chances. A no is a no for her.
Horrible. She locks the door so you can't get in if late and then grades according to attendance which is a violation of CUNY policy. Little to no writing because she says she can't tell if you plagiarize or not. She thinks questions like "Is the vampire dead or alive?" are really profound. Avoid.
PLEASE look at ALL your options before choosing Prof. Connor. She shows almost no regard to students whose names she can't remember. Lectures were SO shallow and not intellectual or inspiring at all. The most writing you'll do is on the midterm and final. Beware of surprise quizzes. She once kicked out a student for entering 1 min late for an exam!
As soon as I walked into class I knew it was a mistake. She teaches what needs to be taught & gets you to understand the text. The problem with her is that she's condescending, & doesn't value your time at all. She cancelled class upwards of 5x & did not stick to the syllabus. Asks you to participate all the time yet never calls on you. Don't take.
No syllabus and class was canceled 50% of the time . In a course about Gothic Literature we read exactly one (1) small novella in the entire semester. The rest of the class was spent responding to Guardian articles about masks and social media addiction with little to no further exploration of these concepts. Intensely boring class and material.
Shes a hit or miss. I loved her but I know a lot of people didnt. You get out what you put in to the class. If you dont put in interest and effort, it will be boring. If you participate in discussions and try to work with her, shes the best professor youll have. Super understanding and kind as long as youre respectful and studious.
please do not take this class. professor connor is dismissive and did not even provide a clear syllabus until after halfway through the semester (and even then it wasnt specific or clear) I signed up for a literature class with no books. the expectations are extremely unclear. please do NOT take for your mental health!!
Shes so unorganized and didnt even provide a CLEAR syllabus. We talked about masks (never read one single book even though this is an intro to literary studies) the whole semester and her feedback is always to connect to other topics in the discussions. I literally learned nothing.
A gothic class about absolutely nothing gothic. We talked about COVID and masks for the entire semester. NO gothic literature, imagery, or art. Tough on final grade despite no grading during the semester. No rubric or syllabus until halfway and then that was clearly half assed. Forced everyone to talk. Boring class discussions. AVOID.
PARTICIPATION MATTERS. she doesnt ask for much at all - no papers, no tests, occasional readings - all she asks is that you participate. if you have something going on, talk to her, she is EXTREMELY understanding of the fact that we are people before we are students! i think she is fun to listen to and she is very smart. loves documentaries
Awesome teacher!! I don't know why she gets so many bad reviews
despite being an intro to literary studies class, we talked about masks the whole semester and didnt read a single book. participation is 50% of ur grade (awful) and she barely gives you enough time to participate (she never shuts up). regret taking this class bc i dont think I learned a single thing the entire semester. nice person, bad professor
Loved the course! Participation is incredibly important, if speaking up in class isn't for you then don't take the course! She asks very little, only one essay during the course and it only required you to be reflective of the topics discussed in class.
Professor Connor is great. Participation and attendance matters a lot, but she's very understanding!
One random paper became our midterm! However, she is caring, and it shows in her strategy of instruction. Participation-heavy means students are heard and must think critically about the material in real time. Discussions in class were abstract; instead of a robust workload, she framed gothic arts into our modern world. Brilliant & lively!
You must be fully active in this class, meaning you must participate. There were not any assigned readings nor were there any many essays assigned. We only watched documentaries and discussed about masks and social media. Professor Connor will always invite you to speak with her if you have any questions or concerns about the class. Tough grader.
Number 1 lesson Ive learned after taking Connor: NEVER judge a professor by their rating on here. Connor is hands down one of the best professors at Hunter and I will fight every 1 star review, meet me on the 7th floor sky bridge, this woman is an absolute gem in this godforsaken place. Dont let these ppl lie to you she legitimately cares about us
Professor Connors is a polite English Professor who pushes students to excel in the literature course, engaging with her peers with excitement and ambition. I expect nothing less from the best out of the English course and I look forward for more assigned classes with her if permitted.
Professor Connor delivers engaging lectures, is flexible with coursework, & is incredibly dedicated to supporting her students. Expects class participation & assigned 2/3 2-page papers. Midterm/final were made optional. She is by far the most caring & supportive professor I have ever had! Please take her class, you will love & appreciate her.
Professor Connor is an angel. Very participation heavy class so prepare for engaging and dynamic conversion. Assigns 2-3 essays with a few extra credit opportunities (will say that essay grading criteria is rather vague and be sure to visit office hours for feedback if you need it). She is such a caring and special person! Would take again x10
Prof. Connor makes getting a grade especially hard and threatens to give a bad grade or fail you if you don't visit office hours. She assigned 2 essays which seems good, but she barely gives out A's and always has so much criticism. If you don't participate, you won't pass.. except she barely picks on you when your hand is raised.
She is condescending and only her opinion matters. She likes to act as if she is understanding but will snatch a pen out of your hand if you click it or make you feel bad for looking tired. She is all over the place and can't even remember that she gave you your graded paper back. Makes you participate but doesn't even call on you. Terrible. Run.
Amazing lectures, extremely knowledgeable on the Gothic and two classes are never the same, Prof Connor grades on participation so it's important to attend class, papers were fairly easy and she answered all questions
Professor Connor is funny, open-minded, and passionate. Her Art and Literature in the Gothic class was entertaining and made me realize how interested I am in the subject. Participation matters significantly.
A good class, not too many assignments or reading. (However this actually, I found as not the best thing as it is hard to get your grade up if you get a lower grade on one thing) Doesn't use blackboard so was never sure what my grade was. Professor is super passionate and nice and liked it if you talk to her after class.
She really cares about her students, so will try to lessen their load while also moving the class forward. You only find out your participation grade when you receive you first response paper. If you are willing to talk a lot, this class is for you. If not, challenge yourself? You will hear about Annabelle, the doll.
Mandatory participation to the point that it's worth 50% of the grade, and you need to aim to participate at least 4 times per class. Papers are not difficult: 500 to 750 words about a topic discussed in class with your own personal twist, though she gives either a one-sentence prompt or a one-paragraph prompt. It's an easy pass. No technology tho.
Assignments were straightforward: concise & to the point. Prof. Connor was right: we only truly remember two types of classes: the excruciatingly dull and the undeniably captivating. This course, without a doubt, fell into the latter category. Side note: in a small classroom setting, the repetitive sounds can be surprisingly disruptive.
Be ready to participate in class!! Class discussions are entertaining and engaging. She is a hard grader but gives amazing feedback and opportunities for rewrites. Some students might find the class hard but she's just trying to push us to be better thinkers and writers.
Participation matters. Nice group discussions and not homework heavy. Really enjoyed this class this semester 🐐
Thoroughly enjoyed this class! Be prepared to participate quite a bit as it's worth 50% of your grade, but I felt that the lectures were interesting and I'd definitely
She's very strict on participation that is like 90% of your grade, even if you just show up and sit there, that's not good enough because you'll still fail if u don't raise ur hand. If ur SHY DONT TAKE THE CLASS. otherwise there's no hw it's super easy af. Sucks can't use computers and doesn't allow kindles for books which SUCKSSS.
Connor is a very good lecturer who does a great job of getting students involved in the material. Participation is mandatory for a passing grade, but essays are short and easy.
Professor Connor is fantastic! The class is mostly based off of participation, so as long as you talk in class you should have no problem getting a good grade. There were only 2 papers and they were mostly personal essays with connections to class topics. She can be particular about some things but as long as you show up and are respectful its easy
Really excellent class and professor; she doesn't follow the syllabus but I didn't find that annoying since there's barely any homework.
Loved professor Connor, such a joy to take her class. If your looking to, you definitely should because I'd take it all over again if I could! Very insightful.
Participation is worth a huge chunk of the grade, wouldn't recommend if you're shy and/or don't like participating. Apart from that, lectures were engaging and interesting. Two blue book in-class assignments, final was made optional. Prof. Connor has a clear passion for the material she teaches, I enjoyed her class!
Amazing professor! Truly enjoyed my time in this class. This instructor made it a pleasure to want to participate in their class and always encouraged everyone to say something. I think the content of the class was also very interesting and I enjoyed their style of discussion based teaching. I thought it was very engaging.
Most participation heavy class I've ever taken but very interesting and really encourages discussion. She doesn't use bright space so make sure you stay on top of the syllabus.
Very attendance and participation heavy. But if you are comfortable talking in class, it will be no problem. Class was interesting as well. (for me anyway) Be ready to write in class as well.
Professor doesn't follow through the syllabus and she can be a tough grader(not that it's a bad thing). But she is clearly passionate about the Gothic and she does pro
She has many MANY tism pet peeves. No pen clicking, no knuckle cracking, no loud noises like shaking ice in drinks… good luck to you all.
Professor Connor's specialized focus on the Gothic in Literature and the Arts makes you want to learn more. Her deep knowledge of her subject matter is impressive. Every class was Interesting, whether the lecture was on modern vampire tropes or Victorian death photos. She expects participation from the class. Just an outstanding course!
Sometimes a student is lucky enough to get a really fabulous teacher….professor Connor is such a teacher I have taken many courses at Hunter. The Gothic class was one of the best. I would highly recommend this class.
Was fun learning and discussing all about the gothic and vampires. Participation is very important. She wants to hear any thoughtful ideas you may have. Writing assignments you take during class time. Had to conjure a lot of courage to speak every class and contribute to the flow of the conversation, but you get used to it ^^!
Very animated, student participation required, great knowledge of subject
I took an independent study with professor Connor and it was one of the best classes I've ever had. Professor Connor provided the guidance and feedback I needed to produce something I was really proud of by the end of the semester. She really cares about her students and is an overall great teacher.
