Shes prett easy. As long as you listen during class and do all your homework your good. Has many pop quizes but if you've been doing your homework don't worry. Interesting to listen to and answers all your questions.I recommend her.
She is a HORRIBLE teacher... She rushes through her lessons as if we should already know what is going on.. hello lady your teaching math 96 clearly we don't know what we are doing...Not only does she rush through lessons she bites your head off when you ask questions and makes you feel stupid. She is awful..DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
I am pretty sure over half my class is failing at this point. That should tell you right there the kind if teacher she is. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
Very straight forward. Tells you exactly what she expects. Types notes which are very helpfull. Does a very good job teaching the material and walking through the problems. Very social & involved with her class. Pleasant and funny. Go to class everyday, pay attention, do the homework, and ask for help when you need it and you will do fine. :)
Very disorginized teacher. She prints off the notes to go along with her class, but they arent ready until 10 min before her first class the day you need the notes. She also gave us 12 quizes with 7 hard equations on each only 3 days before and due on the final. She did only 4 lessons on first test then 15 lessons on the next test. very stressful
Rebecca gives random pop quizes that you can usually take home but she takes almost a full week to get them and exams back to you. She will help you if you need help but her brain works really fast and it is hard to keep up when she explains things. She is really nice though, motherly.
She gives hw but doesn't grade it. She gives quizzes but doesn't announce them. Her tests are really hard. They don't really relate to what she teaches. I have not finished one test on time. She doesn't give extra time to finish so you end up leaving the answers blank. She expects you to already know as much as she does... DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is everywhere! She gives out pop quizes all the time and doesn't give them back till one week later. Her office is always filled with student so asking her questions is not possible. She goes through the material very fast. She expects you to be on her page, but who knows what page she's on. I do not recommend her at all!
Worst teacher I have had at SCC. She doesn't care about her students, I feel like I wasted my money on her. She gives exams that less than half the class can finish, she doesn't hand back the final when asked...I am still mad after a month without being in her class.
I thought she was ok as a teacher until I decided to take the class over again at a slower pace. Now having a good teacher it is more apparent how poor her teaching is. It seems as though she is more interested in showing off her math skills than actually teaching it. It was like watching the Becky show. She goes too fast & talks too much.
She's very nice, explains WHY you need to know so much. However, it is very fast paced so if you have trouble keeping up, this may not be for you. I'vd her for 2 different classes, I wouldnt take anyone but her.
not very helpful, moves way to fast as if she expects us to be at her level. talks down and answers questions like we are stupid. pop quizes, not enough time, you've heard it from the other comments dont take her! unless you would rather be in a self taught class cause thats basically what Im doing...
She moves very fast. She gave three tests and the final that is it. She is friendly and approachable but I felt like I was teaching myself the whole way through. Have her now in 142 and it exactly the same, fast paced with only three tests and the final. I would recommend taking another teacher if at all possible!
I'm surprised by the neg reviews here. I took Prof. Cosner's Precalc I course during summer 2012. She does move quickly through course material, but this is the nature of the course. Prof Cosner was pleasant, professional, qualified, accessible, and never had a problem seeing me before or after class to work together. Excellent teacher IMO.
I only took her for Math107, and if I could make you NOT pick her I would. She is a nice lady don't get me wrong, bu the WORST teacher I've ever had...be prepared for the following: to teach yourself & to have the book be your teacher, her class period seemed to be designed for us to just copy her notes, very lengthy tests, very faced paced class.
Worst teacher i have ever seen at scc. She is very disorganized and moves way to fast. I havnt even had to open the book once accept to gain the access code to do homework online. Test are ridiculous. not enough time for the problems she gives. Never take a class from her.
She moves way too fast covering a whole section or more in just one 50 min period. If we ask questions she looks at us like we are dumb and like we should already know it. Shes nice and fun, but doesn't even give us time in class to try a problem on our own on the notes, she just goes through and does the problem herself without even explaining how she did it expecting us to just understand right away.
If I could make you NOT take this teacher I would. Nice lady, but WORST teacher. Be prepared 4 the following:To teach yourself and have the book be your teacher, lengthy tests containing problems that are not like class notes or homework, her random babbling about nonsense and her rushing thru a lot of material that isn't really taught but you copy
Worst teacher I have ever had in my whole college experience!!! Don't take her class! She talks about random things that don't have to do with math, and then rushes though the material in the last 10 minutes of class. If you want to pass 107 don't take her class.
Cosner was one of the worst professors I have ever had. All she wants to do is tell the class about her life story. She is stuck up when you ask her questions and is not helpful. DO NOT TAKE HER
Rebecca is an amazing teacher! She is caring and personable and always makes time for anyone who needs help, but you have to make the effort to sit down with her. She moves fast, but this IS college. She is a very caring and awesome teacher. If you don't put the work in, then you won't do well. Do the homework, study, and you'll be fine.
Rebecca was a horrible teacher! If you come and ask her questions she wont answer but acts very stuck up! If you missed the days the homework was assigned and due she gives a ZERO! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! She was the worst teacher I ever had after 6 quarters. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!
I like Rebecca she comes off kind of strong at first, but she is very nice and funny and explains everything very well. I like how we did packets in class that she went over them with us and had take home quizzes. I failed my last Math 92 class and now I am doing very well.
Becky is alright. She moves super fast. I feel like she refuses to give perfect grades on anything. Homework isn't graded or collected. She's nice, but moves really fast. She isn't an instructor I'd take again. I'm a good math student but I'm struggling this quarter.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! Way too fast in teaching. Gives WAY too much work and projects in so little time to complete. Very little time to do quizzes. Very rude, inconsiderate, harsh at grading...WORST TEACHER EVER AT SCC!!! Gives you work like she's the only teacher you have, and has no heart in helping students out. She sets students up to fail!
worst experience in a classroom, im sure shes a great person outside but when it comes to the subject she truely is too fast and expects it to be review, most of the time unreasonable with expectations and seems undriven to teach students and rather simply instructs orders. im not rating on personality but simply teaching ability. avoid at all cost
Becky has a very poor and inconsistent teaching style. She has unreasonable expectations for students, and most of the class cannot finish their tests on time. She is rude and talks down to her students. Homework is mandatory but you don't receive points for it. She wastes a lot of class time and then rushes through the material.
Becky is awesome! The material for the class is a lot but not because of the professor. Becky makes time for her students and is always extremely helpful. She will explain things many different ways to help her students understand. She has never made me feel bad because I didn't understand. I would take another class with Becky in a heart beat!
She is a talker but if you can follow along with the guide she gives you and you do your homework, you will pass. Cosner is very understanding and more than willing to help you but you have to seek it out.
Very confusing and condescending -- not a good combination. I went to her office once because I was behind on my homework, and it was the most pointless thing I've ever done. All she did was talk down to me; she gave me no practical advice, and even tried to convince me that I shouldn't be in her class. I've never had a teacher do that before.
Becky is a fantastic teacher. She really expects you to do the homework, though. A lot of the take home quiz questions are straight out of the book, so if you don't do the homework or open your book, you'll have a tougher time. She also gives points for doing the homework, which helps maintain your grade.
As I was looking at professor Cosner's ratings I was shocked! Shocked I tell you! I have been in her class for 91 and 92, and I am going to be in her 99 class as well. Homework is a must you will not pass the quiz if you skip doing your homework, but it's math YOU HAVE TO PUT IN THE TIME! Rebecca has help me soooo much and not just with math!
Becky is alright, her standards are ridiculous. You're required to go to p99x and office hours, have work until class and can't make any sessions because they're all in the morning? Doesn't matter you'll get a zero anyways. HOURS of homework for each section, only to have completely different types of test problems. Most of my class is struggling.
She was awesome. She helped me and the class out numerous times with extra credit options if we asked. Very helpful. You can tell she loves math and that is a good experience for everyone involved; to have a professor love what they do. She is easy to talk to and goes the extra mile.
Love Rebecca!!! She is an amazing teacher and makes math so easy! would always recommend and take her classes!
LOVE LOVE LOVE her!!!! The best teacher that I've ever had!!! Would take her again. Learned so much more taking it with Prof. Cosner. She is awesome! Take her class and you will not regret it.!!!
The best
She is available to help during office hours and many times outside of that. She has high expectations and wants you to be the best student possible. The material can be tough and you MUST do your homework in order to pass. It's math and you can't be mad at anyone except yours if you don't put in the time.
I loved taking Becky's class for math 99. Yes homework is mandatory but not collected, but your quizzes are based off your homework. so in a round about way your homework is graded. she can move kind of fast at times, but she is always willing to help if you need it. she is always in her office during her office hours. i plan on taking her again.
If you like watching an instructor do homework on an overhead and thinks you are going to get it. Feel free to take this instructor.
First math class I have taken at SCC and would never take another class from her again. She is not very clear on anything. Tests are hard. If math is not really your thing I suggest you choose a different professor.
I came from a university, and compared to university math classes she's absolutely terrible. Definitely felt like I was being treated like a child, straight up told us if we were gonna be even a couple minutes late to class to not even show up. Definitely not someone I would take again.
Becky is a great teacher especially when it comes to helping those who need it! She never makes you feel bad for needing help and she encourages all questions and ideas. I enjoy going to her class even though it is math and without her smooth and clear teaching style, providing all learning tools, I wouldn't be doing as well in this class as I am.
Math is hard. Statistics is harder. Becky makes it slightly less miserable. Very approachable and empathetic. Rare qualities in math teachers. It's a difficult class, undoubtedly and I haven't finished, but she gives plenty of opportunities to increase your grade. She knows it isn't easy stuff. If available, take her.
she is a good teacher, and her lecture is great.
Becky is on ok teacher overall. She is willing to answer any questions you have during office hours, and is very approachable. However, her exams are extremely difficult and can rarely be finished in the time allowed. Her exams often have material not covered in class. You will need to teach yourself some of the material. She is a tough grader!
She didn't grade the online math lab we were required to purchase ($125). DO NOT take her hybrid class, she DOES NOT POST ANYTHING ON CANVAS (including due dates) regardless of the fact it's a HYBRID class. I messaged her about my concern twice and was ignored both times.
Her exam's often include material not covered in class, and can rarely be completed in the one hour time frame. You will have to teach yourself some of the material as well. She is a very tough grader. She has a good knowledge of the material, but at times cannot communicate that knowledge clearly. Mediocre teacher on her best day.
If you're good at teaching yourself then by all means take her class. You will never complete an exam in the time given, and as an added bonus, she puts material on the exams that hasn't been covered in class. She is available to answer questions, and does have great office hours. She is a nice person, just not a good teacher.
She is a terrible teacher. Math whiz's can pass the class. Basically I taught myself everything I learned in her class. She is also very unhelpful. If you try to ask her to go over test questions she won't unless you go to office hours. Which were inconsistent. She grades harshly. Responds negatively to criticism. Arrogant and close minded.
Oblivious, patronizing, combative, and condescending. Will arbitrarily dock points for not specifying that a bouncing ball is a solid object and will not go underground. The material was NOT challenging, but dealing with this "instructor" was the single most difficult scholastic endeavor I've experienced in 41 years. Avoid at ALL costs!
I usually don't use rate my professor, this is the first review of a teacher that I have written. Ever since taking this class over summer I check all teachers on rate my professor before enrolling in their class. Rebecca's examples on how to do problems were always different from the homework and quiz. Would not recommend.
Overall, one of the best teachers I've had for math. Is willing to go over homework in class if you have questions. Really wants everyone to understand the material and if you ask for more help during office hours she is very helpful. Extra credit options are there. However if you don't come to class and don't do the work, you won't pass.
She may be good at math but she is a horrible teacher. Very condescending and would rather show off her skills than actually teach. You have to teach yourself. Thinks that hybrid means she doesn't have to teach. Nothing useful online and nothing useful in class. You have to complete homework before class or you get a 0. Just not a good teacher.
Really horrible at teaching. Assigns way too much homework and then only grades one or 2 questions selectively giving you a small chance of getting the points you deserve. Assigns stupid projects that are not relatable to the lesson we are learning in class.
A lot of work to pass. Requires both book homework as well as online per chapter and section per chapter. Classes are basically self taught. Requires immense dedication and time. Expect to study about 5+ hours every night on your own (not including class time)
Her idea of hybrid means she wont teach. If you dont read the book and teach yourself, you will not pass. She will only go over some homework problems during class but will not teach you anything. She assigns both online and book homework but will only grade one or two problems per chapter randomly and makes you do all 40 problems
This professor is tough to understand at first. She is fair, but be cautious. The syllabus is carved in stone here. If you are willing to do the work, and study hard I recommend this professor. If you're a lazy 'millennial' who thinks the rules shouldn't always apply evenly for everyone, and that somehow your situation is 'special', quit now!!!!!
She gives way too much homework. For people who have families and a life outside of school this class is very difficult I would not recomend taking it if you want to pass. She expects you to do 20 hours of homework a week and doesn't do much lecturing to teach the units only answers homework questions so basically you need to teach yourself
Becky is passionate, funny, caring, really wants you to understand the material. Homework isn't graded/mandatory but you won't pass if you don't do it. The tests were hard but everything you need to know is in the lecture notes she gives, assigned reading, and practice tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but you won't pass if you don't show up.
Stay away from this instructor at all costs. Horrible!!!
Where to begin, VERY difficult class, it being a hybrid makes it even worse. Just be ready for about 5-8 hours of homework a day for this class. Her exams are literally the hardest. Very tough questions are asked on exams, that arent even reviewed in class or homework. I wouldnt recommend this class/teacher to anybody at all.
Avoid this instructor at all costs! She is terrible! Expect at least 4-5 hours of homework per night (this does not include studying for exams). As if the homework isn't enough, she assigns random projects throughout the qtr that are busy work. The mean score on the final was a 56.1%; that speaks volumes of her teaching ability. AWFUL!!!!
Very bad teacher! I took math 146(statistics) with this professor. During class time she will talk very fast, while she will solve a problem in class, she doesnt give the students a copy of the problem so you can understand better. She doesnt give good grades at all and a lot of times is not specific about exam timer. Dont recomend her!
I really enjoyed her class, people keep commenting on how she assigns a lot of homework and they are not wrong, but that is just something that all the statistic classes at SCC have to go through. I would highly recommend taking her in class, I had her 4 days a week and during the lecture times she will give examples TAKE NOTES DURING THAT!
Becca is an amazing person and the reviews on here don't do her justice. She is very kind person and always seeking to help you. She will go out of her way to make sure you get the ideas. Very funny, laid back, and just and overall great teacher.
Although she is a good teacher and is very responsive to her students needs, the homework load is astronomical. Look forward to 3 hours of work for assignments worth 10 points daily. All homework is online. She provides very detailed lecture notes but assignments and workload is unreasonable. Would not recommend this class very difficult to keep up
Although I think shes a good teacher and is pretty funny. Shes a tough TOUGH grader. I had a problem and while showing my work. I did one step wrong and she took off 4 points even though my answer was right. I get marking me off but for one tiny mistake? Also Ive spent 3+ hours on homework. Class notes and homework dont even help you on exams.
I was doing 12-15 homework assignments a week!( 2 hours just on HW every day + weekends) Most math teachers don't go passed chapter 10 and she goes all the way to 13! Her tests are hard to understand and she is a very picky grader. She goes way to fast during the lecture, I ended up going to the tutoring center every day. DO NOT TAKE HER! BEWARE!
Becky is a wonderful person who clearly wants us to succeed in her Intro to Stars class, but I would never take one of her classes again. The amount of homework assigned is extreme. The class isnt even hard, but theres so much homework that youre doing hours a night, even on weekends. Im completely serious. Ive been sobbing every week.
I really feel like this professor doesn't want us to succeed. She gives an extraordinary amount of homework and clearly doesn't understand that we have other classes or stuff in our lives. I really wouldn't take this professor unless you can devote about 4 hours a night to homework just for her class.
I am horrified by this teacher. Don't take MATH146 unless it's your only class. It is not hard--I dropped with a 98%--but the 4-5 hours of homework per night (including weekends) is crippling. It was hours of homework even with calculators and StatCrunch algorithms and generally being fast with math. Don't do it. Don't.
Love Rebecca!!! She is a fantastic teacher & knows her stuff! She will push you to do your best but she makes the class so fun! The best option for Stats.
I cannot say enough awful things about this professor. I will never take a class from her again. My GPA is going go hurt after this class. She gives way too much homework and is just all around rude. Hated everything about the class.
I had Becky for Math 91 online. Becky cares about her students passing and has even said you can contact her in the future for help. She does give lots of homework, but she is very good at explaining math step by step. I rarely did any of the textbook work. I focused on the online stuff and tests. I passed with a B.
This professor is not flexible at all. I needed to take an exam on a different day and that was completely out of the question, even though I was giving her ample advance notice. Taking an online class in my mind should allow for some flexibility, but not with this professor. I would not suggest taking her.
Professor Rebecca Cosner is worst Professor at Spokane Community College. Her main point is not to help student to pass the class, her main point is to show how smart she is. She gives tons of homework so if you work or you have a kids you will not be able to pass this class. Only homework requires 5 or 6 hours to finish it. Her tests are hard.
Take Becky's class! You will be working primarily on your own, but ANYTIME you need help, Becky is waiting to help to you. She gives a lot of homework, but that is the only way to learn Math. Practice is essential! Math requires a repetition. I thoroughly enjoyed being in her class! She was so helpful and she genuinely cares.
Do not take this professor. As stated by many others, Rebecca has completely unrealistic expectations for pretty much everything. I'm not quite sure why SCC continues to let her teach there. She obviously has no clue about the types of students she is teaching nor does she seem to want her students to succeed.
Garbage professor. Gave me a 2/5 on a discussion in a MATH CLASS for only doing my 5 required posts over 2 days and not 5. I explained I work 12 hour days and work full time and she basically said get over it. Terrible teacher with ridiculous expectations, very rude, I am struggling in this class more than I am in classes that are 10 times harder.
Becky Cosner is the worse professor I have ever taken. She requires an extreme amount of homework and does not grade most of them except for the reviews which are crazy hard. The exams are twice as hard as any work she gives. She is not engaging at all and gives zero lectures. When emailing her for clarification or help she is belittling. Just dont
Rebecca Cosner is a terrible teacher. She does not give extra credit because it is a CoLlEgE lEveL class. I asked to retake an exam because an emergency appeared and she did not let me. I spend most of my days studying or doing work in her class and yet she does not grade ANYTHING. She grades based off of discussions and REVIEW and not the homework
Values self interest and own convenience over the learning of her students. Assigns pointless blunder that doesnt actually improve the overall grade of the student. When help is requested it is responded with belittlement. Not a hard class. Just a bad teacher.
Do not take this professor, unrealistic expectations and gives a whole lot of homework as stated by others. I spend most of my time doing her class work and I only get graded on the pointless reviews she assigns. She is a terrible teacher. I do not recommend.
If only I would have read this instructor's reviews before signing up for this class. I hated everything about this class and the instructor. I get the impression that this instructor is bitter about life and takes it out on us students. Don't dare ask for help or understanding. These ideas are completely out of this teacher's comprehension.
She's a pain in the you-know-what to do the class for, very unclear about things and seems to avoid questions, "I have to be willing to give everyone else a retake if I give you one" is an overused excuse, math EVERY DAY except weekends, and more. Not good for those who have a very active social life. Wish I took the class by itself to save time :(
Be prepared to spend 5-6 hours on homework a day, and only the chapter review homeworks are graded, so its impossible to get your grade back up. She doesnt do any of her own lectures either, so you will be learning on your own. If you have a question she just belittles you and makes you feel awful for not knowing the answer. Just stay away.
She really cares about her students, and the class has a usual amount of homework. The lectures are great and she really care for and understands her students.
This was the worst teacher I have ever had. I spent 4-7 hours a day teaching MYSELF how to do each and every one of my assignments. Please for the sake of your well-being and mental health do not take this class with this teacher.
Wants you to talk in discussion boards but hogs the comment section. "Teaches" the material online with access to Statcrunch but then forces you to print the tests out. Everything is due at 9pm - not 2359 (night workers nightmare). If you don't schedule a zoom test slot in time you have to go in person - mid pandemic! We chose online for a reason!!
She is the worst teacher Ive never had. she make simple things complicated. She teaches classes very unprofessionalnothing is clear. She treats herself as a Queen in teaching, she put a lot of unreasonable rules for you: due time on 9pm! 6 am for test! Bad handwriting Unclear lecture...... math is not hard but she makes a nightmare for you
Becky is the worst teacher I've ever had. Her lectures drag on and they do not help you one bit. She is obsessed with rules instead of showing you how to do problems with actual numbers. She expects you to do this class 40+ hours a week. If you have a full time job/take other classes you're screwed. She needs to restructure her class.. DO NOT TAKE!
Doesn't grasp that online classes are meant to be flexible for people with all types of schedules. Everything due at 9pm which is absolutely ridiculous. Any questions on the outrageous amount of work required gets you a petty remark FROM THE TEACHER and "this doesn't count towards your grade" in the DISCUSSION BOARD. For math. A discussion board.
Everything is due at 9pm. There's an unreasonable amount of homework. Do not take this class if you work or have other time consuming things on your plate. Lectures were unclear, and the class only went by what the online curriculum stated. There was no elaboration. While the discussion boards were to help each other, I mainly felt belittled.
I took this class for my math credit and I regret it. She is very inconsiderate, half the time her lectures don't have anything to do with the homework assigned, and her grading is unreasonable. She did answer emails fairly quickly and that was helpful. She rarely apologized for any of the mistakes she made and could never admit that she is wrong.
Rebecca Cosner has been a great professor, she is so patient and kind, you can ask any question and she will make a whole video explaining even more details than you expected. Rebecca Cosner responded to my emails even in the night, she really cares about her students.
Hated this instructor and everything about this class. She has completely unrealistic expectations of students. She is also very disrespectful to me when I asked questions. I would not recommend this instructor.
Positives: Fast responses Negatives: Work load, uses other teachers videos to "teach" the class, due at 9pm not 1159, hogs discussion board while requiring responses on it, you could be in a coma and she would still refuse to let you move a due date, complains about finishing homework "too early". DO. NOT. TAKE HER! I REPEAT. DO. NOT. TAKE. HER!
Good luck getting any help much less respect- Ive never dealt with anyone less understanding and rude. Not sure why she is a teacher. If youre looking to learn and have help along the way, steer clear.
Teacher communicates in a rude, condescending way. Course has a ton of material to cover is a very short amount of time. Responses to emails was slow. I found her to be unapproachable. It's the hardest class, harder than any upper level chemistry or microbiology class.
Becky is a good professor, she is not well liked due to the fact that the assignments are very work load heavy and definitely challenges your time management skills. However, statistics is time consuming period. She has great feedback and is willing to personalize videos if you ask. I would recommend her class base on the knowledge I acquired.
Rebecca was the WORST instructor Ive had at SCC thus far. Its not the amount of assignments that bothered me, she is just very condescending & often times makes you feel stupid for a simple question you post in the discussion board. Someone who is supposed to be a professor doesnt do much teaching as all of the lecture videos arent even hers.
She doesn't actually teach anything. The entire course was taught by the pre-made video's from the textbook. She made no contribution to anything, all she did was link the online textbook and HW in canvas. If you're someone who wants an instructor who engages in the material and communicates with their students, stay far away from this one.
STAY AWAY. I regret not reading the reviews before taking this class. It completely destroyed my life and perspective on college. I spent about 5-6 hours a night doing her homework that isn't even graded. I failed the first exam with a 60% and then got 90+% on every other assignment and still only passed with a B.
Becky is a very caring and wonderful teacher. Her expectations are clear and reasonable. She definitely wants you to succeed and will go out of her way to help you understand in terms on your level. Shes always cheery and super pleasant. This class was time intensive. So be prepared to learn and spend at least 5 hours a day minimum on this class.
I am a student with learning and mental disorders and Rebecca was far from accommodating. She left me feeling disregarded, offered no outside sources to help, she absolutely did not care for my education. Her class is required and she knows that, so she is very entitled and rude. I have never been so offended and degraded by a professional. RUN!!!
I do not even know where to begin. She is HORRIBLE. She expects you to have all of your homework due at 9 PM. Tests are HARD. She grades so hard. I have never received full credit on any discussion posts. On any of our assignments. She never responds to her emails. Horrible lecture videos. BEWARE. If you struggle with math, find a different one.
I took this class for a math credit to graduate… STEER CLEAR!! I spent 4-5 hours PER DAY on math. She uses Pearson site for tests and homework. Even though it is an “online” course, you have to travel to campus in order to take proctored tests! Total BS! Oh yeah, and if you get below a 60% on the final, you fail the entire course!
Honestly not sure how she isn’t fired yet or at least looked into. I’m sure her passing rates are horrible considering she’s the worst professor on the entire campus. Don’t take her class. Avoid at all costs unless you like being belittled for asking questions.
This is a required class to receive math credits, yet she even states on the course homepage that it is a "rigorous course." The syllabus claims that putting 4 hours into the class a day is expected, and if my other 5 classes wanted the same thing I would be spending 20 hours a day doing schoolwork. Condescending responses on discussion post too!
Wow, just finished the class and it has completely destroyed any enjoyment towards learning math and diminished my will to learn in general. I spent anywhere from 3-5 hours a day just to be able to understand the work, since her lectures do not really line up with the homework, which is completed on Pearson site. Get ready to be be miserable.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES! I’m an A-average student, and I’ve never had an issue with math classes in general. She expects 4+ hours DAILY from students plus several proctored tests. She responds to questions in a rude manor and has very little remorse. I see no benefits at all.
When is the last time you did a new task without notes? Never, right? She expects perfect memorization of *literally* every single thing you've learned. Must show "clear concise:" work on tests, gives no room to do so. I'm averaging a 98% on classwork but bc she's so strict on tests, I have a failing grade. Wish I would've known before signing up.
I'm taking this class as a requirement for the nursing program. Do you work at night? The due times are 9:00 pm. You are not going to make it through!! There is no extra credit. Expects you to work about 4-5 hours A DAYYY. Homework, chapter quizzes, and other stuff are not even part of grading. Think wisely before you take this course!!
Everyone else rating low summed it up well.
Becky is a very nice person but not a great professor. She's pretty hands-off; everything is done through Pearsons, and the video lectures are not super clear. I learned most of the content from either SCC tutors or through youtube videos that were way more clear. Tests are timed, written ? were always really confusing, and I never had enough time.
No lectures, no teaching, tins of work to learn on your own.
Be careful of this teacher, very very tough and very unforgiving for late assignments, The absolute worst teacher I have ever had
I would avoid Rebecca like the plague. I did HOURS of homework assignments that weren't even counted towards my grade. She gives no grace. She wasn't even very helpful whenever you would ask for help. I had to take this class again because I failed, but I took with someone else.... got an A. Much different experience all around. Go to someone else
Do not take this class unless you have to. She assigned 2-4 hours of work every single day, Monday-Friday. You can't even ask her questions directly. She will make you post them to a discussion board and make other struggling students answer them.
I had the unfortunate luck of getting her twice, because it will say staff and she ends up being assigned. She is not easy to pass. It almost feels like she doesn't support the success of her students. Her classes, both algebra and statistics are HARD. If you could avoid her, please do. I got 1.9 with her and 3.8 with someone else. Speaks volumes.
So I had to drop this class. I work 7:30-5 everyday and with something due every single day spending 3-4 hours doing homework and having to rush since it's all due at 9pm instead of 11:59. It wasn't realistic at all. She never even responded to my emails. I also have kids so she doesn't accommodate to a normal online schedule. I would avoid her.
First day of class I spent about 8 hours and thankfully not the $100 online text that does the professors job for them. After I was done with all the pointed and borderline rude instructions to get prepared for the class, I still saw that she had a Day 1, 1-2 hour homework she wanted done. Also, printing your work, working it and scanning? 1990?
I took her Math 146 Intro to stats and it was the worst class experience I have ever had. The course work itself is not super difficult, but, she resorts to Pearson for everything. I learned nothing from her. HOURS of online work that is not difficult, just a lot. Please take someone else if you do not like tedious online work. I do NOT recommend.
This class requires an enormous amount of time to complete. Tons of lectures, videos, and assignments. I would guess it takes about 4-5 hours PER DAY to complete. If you are working fulltime or have other commitments, this is not a good class to take.
I don't know where to begin, professor Cosner was the hardest professor I've ever dealt with. She was so picky about the littlest things, and took away many points on the assignment for those little things. She was unfair and unhelpful about advice where you needed improvement. All the learning was through My Math Lab. Never taking her again.
Avoid this class if possible. The workload is unrealistic, with assignments due daily instead of the typical midnight deadline. Unstuck AI and other online resources are a must to survive.
Her recorded lectures are a mess with constant echos, long pauses, and she will make a mistake and continue with the lecture..... then 2 mins in she will say "oh, wait, we made a mistake." I have so many lectures that I have recorded, just to show how horrible her lectures are. Dont take her class. Pick a different "Professor".
DON'T TAKE HER. I would make myself take one extra quarter just for one class. It's supposed to be an all online class but you MUST be at the college with someone watching over you while taking online tests even tho it's proctored. also the whole course is just a mess and the workload is insane. save yourself the will to live and dont take her lol
If you want to spend the next quarter ripping your hair out trying to get the homework done, have at it.. I love a good challenge, but this class is THE WORST I've ever taken. I've always been semi good at math. She overloads you with so much homework, you can't grasp the idea. Also assignments due by 10 is MADLY unreasonable. Fix it lady.
She puts youtube links on printed homework that's supposed to be completed by hand. Expects you to have nothing else going on in your life and has insane amount of homework. The Pearson online portion is horrible. 3hrs to read her insane syllabus. Want help? You have to ask other struggling students on a mandatory discussion board. Waste of money.
Multiple homework assignments due every day that don't count towards grade. Online course but exams are in person. Discussion boards you have to contribute to 5 different times on different days, but she'll get in and respond to students, thus taking away your chance to respond. She doesn't teach, you have to teach yourself via the $100 math lab.
The workload is too much with an end-of week summary every Monday which contribute to the final grade. Submission is by 10.00pm and if you are late, you are deducted 50% everyday. You have an average of 40 questions every day and you must score at least 70% in order to move to the next topic. Its hard to pass in her class. AVOID her if you can.
Rebecca was honestly the single worst instructor I have ever had in my entire academic career. The expectations for the class are insane and she is completely serious about this class taking at LEAST 4 to 5 hours PER DAY to complete homework. She is not responsive and incredibly unhelpful and condescending. If I could rate 0/5, I would.
Don't do this class with this professor if you value your mental health and grades. The nicest way to explain this teacher is intense. To be real, she has unrealistic expectations. 5-10 hrs a day. I didn't stutter. It's a fact. And unless you already know how to do the work, you will fail. She should not be teaching!!!
I would also give the professor a ZERO if I could. She expects u to spend your whole day studying and doing homework. She also is super tough on grading. I had a tutor help me with my homework and still got a C. Do NOT take her she wants her students to fail.
This class was horrible for me. There was an enormous amount of homework, so much that I had to cut my hours at work just to clear time to do it. The professor relies almost completely on the textbook to teach you and does no teaching of her own. Save yourself the time, effort, and money and take another teacher!!
Workload is unrealistic. Ended almost everyday in tears from frustration, I barely had time to make dinner for my family. Not helpful at all. HW is due by 10pm every night or your deducted 50%, so no time to work on HW at night after work or "life". She gave us the MOST HW on Halloween!! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS if you value your mental health!
Clear structure and expectations from the beginning. Grades are straightforward. Some in-class assignments on paper are given, so show up to class if you want credit for all possible assignments. Lots of practice using both paper and online modes. The online practice modules match up with material presented in class. I found her very helpful.
Rebecca Cosner is the worst professor I have ever had. I finished my degree at SCC with all As except for a B in one single class- Hers! I have since gone on to a university and have maintained all As since. Her lectures are confusing, she assigns an insane amount of work, and requires in-person tests. Avoid at all costs.
AVOID her class at all costs if you value your mental health. I am an A student but I couldn't cope with her insane volume of work and endless assignments which don't even count in the final grade. The class is a waste of resources. You end up worse than the time you started the class.
