Speeches are easy, and is an easy grader for those, but she is a very tough grader on the quizzes; it has to be word for word from the book or else its wrong. She is a terrible communicator, as she says one thing and does another. She doesn't do much teaching other than reading off of powerpoint. Read the book, don't take notes (waste of time).
This class was really fun and it was pretty engaging. Totally hot.
Very good professor. Provides constructive feedback. Easy A if you stay on top of things and practice your speech beforehand.
A good teacher, but will definitely make you work for your grade... I though that this class would be an easy A, but I really had to work for a B+.
Makes communications fun! Giving speeches is kind of nerve racking from but her personality makes me feel more comfortable. Grading is tough but you learn a lot. Take communications with her!
I thought she was a student at first
Her lectures are engaging. There are multiple classroom activities that are fun and help you learn the information. Her grading is fair. She follows the rubric to grade the speeches and provides in-depth feedback for the why you got the score you did. Overall, I had a great time! I would definitely take that class again.
Great!!
The grading can be a little rigid sometimes, but some of that is due to the weird grading criteria of the communication department. She's very friendly and approachable.
Grading a little to tough for a 100 level class, but over all a good person.
Rebecca gives really clear, specific grading criteria for her speeches and then gives thorough and in depth feedback. The lectures from the book she gives are always interesting and the group projects are fun and engaging. Would recommend!
Good teacher, very nice, and respected! The speech grading was the hardest part.
Professor Hatfield adequately covered the material in the textbook
This class was a lot of fun! The class was very informative and never boring. I would recommend this class!
She was very good at giving out the lecture and making sure everyone wrote the information that was need. It was really fun and a good environment! She is purrrfect.
This class was a little tough for a 100 level com class but I feel I pulled more out than I might with her than some other teachers. Also, totaly a foxy babe
Overall a very different learning experience but worth it. Group time is fun. Hard grader on speeches but take time and prepare and you will do fine. Ask questions and you will be fine. Make sure you are studying for the quizzes they really arnt that hard. You are with your group get together and study. I would recommend this course to others.
You're expected to take notes, the professor is really helpful and a lot of the subjects covered are well explained. Overall a great class, a lot of fun and you will do well as long as you make time to study for the exams and practice your speeches!
Ms. Hatfield is a very nice and approachable person, but I feel that some of the grades were a bit unfair. There seems to be no discernible way to improve your presentation grade. Even after trying to improve upon some of the criteria that she mentioned in the feedback, I always managed to get the same grade. Be careful, the quizzes are rough
She is very engaging to the class. Willing to work with students to improve their performance. She gives excellent and extensive feedback on the presentations. A great teacher.
This course is graded a little bit more harshly than you would expect from a communications class. The speeches and group activities require you to be very well done to get an A. With this said, it is a fun class with lots of information. She does an excellent job at making sure you get adequate feedback and help that you need.
Overall
Good teacher
A really fun professor. Makes classes exciting and a great learning experience.
Great teacher, you learn a lot. Is very tough speech grader and its hard to get an A on them. Other than that the class was great.
Great teacher. Very fair with grading!
Good class overall without a lot of work outside class other than preparing for a few speeches/ presentations. However the professor grades very toughly on these.
Unfittingly tough grading for a 100 level class that literally everyone has to take. Despite this, except for when you have to give a speech (3-4 times in the semester) the course is nauseatingly easy
Great teacher, great class I would recommend this to everyone
This was a tough class. Maybe if I tried harder it would be better we'll see
The grading policies for this class seemed to be a bit unclear and confusing. At times it seemed like the feedback received did not match up with the grade given. However, to be fair I don't know if this was more the fault of the professor or the fault of the Comm. Department as a whole.
The group work was a fun over all, but if one group member didnt help it was bad. Tough grading as well but easy reading
This class was slightly more difficult than I thought it was going to be. Be sure to really prepare and practice every presentation. Also do not be afraid to ask for extra feedback even though she gives a great amount to begin with.
This professor is an incredible person. She is always present in all matters of the word. She is willing to work with any student to help better themselves or their grade. However, she is not a push over. So, expect to do all your work to the best of your ability.
Rebecca is very relatable, and presents content in a way that makes it engaging.
Overall I really enjoyed the class. The grading caught me off guard because it was a little bit harsher than I would have thought it would be.
Nice but grades hard. Enters in grades literally the same day so that's awesome. Communications classes are not the best, but this one wasn't that bad.
Tough grader. Lots of boring lectures and pop quizzes.
Lots of feedback and criticism on presentations that was very helpful.
Becky is a great professor, and I would definitely take another class with her again.
It was fun overall.
She's really nice and a pretty good teacher. She can sometimes grade harshly but if you go over your speech a few times in front of someone the night before, you should get a good grade. Also show up to class! By the end of the semester half my group was gone because they wouldn't show up to class so if you skip a lot then don't take this class.
Sets a good environment and leaves plenty of useful feedback
Rebecca was a very good professor to have, she grades fairly to the work you; as well as gives great feedback on your speech.
She is a good teacher, makes you work for your grades.
She was a pretty tough grader but still fair I think. Could have let us know more about outside the class work and give us warnings when stuff is due. Wasn't great at lecturing but the material was hard to make interesting. Should find other teaching methods for future classes.
Fakes the class out with assignments worth more than they seem, and things added or dropped suddenly. The inconsistency was frustrating.
From the very beginning, we had a textbook to finish as fast as possible. To me it felt rushed but only because most of it was rather boring. Once we finished the text book we were assigned projects that were much more entertaining than the lectures.
Good overall class with excellent professor who does and cares about her job and all her students in it.
Good class. I learned a lot. I would feel more comfortable if called upon to speak.
Fun professor, makes presenting easy and fun.
Quizzes were the hardest part on readings. Speeches graded fairly leniently.
I really liked the speech topics. They were challenging
She is an amazing teacher. I'd love to take this class again.
I really liked your teaching method.
Good teacher, group tests are pretty good. Make sure you understand requirements for speech though.
Comm 131 is a pretty crappy class, but hatfield is a good professor. She knows what she is doing and she is friendly.
Professor Hatfield is nice but seems disinterested. She cancels class when she has no lesson plan for that day, reads off of slides, and assigns busywork that you won't get credit for. I spent $130 for a book I used twice, and I think that for the money I paid, I ended up getting a subpar education. It was an easy class, but I didn't learn much.
Grading was very unfair after talking to more than half the class about our first speach no one recived a grade above 78% since she grades all speaches on the same criteria. She is also very bad about makeing her deadlines clear as she says one thing in class and will send out a reminder on blackboard with a differnt due date.
would not take again.
Would take again, a very engaging and straightforward professor
Good teacher all around.
Super laid back but is always ready to get serious when needed.
Great course, fun, engaging, and provides detailed feedback on presentation (the class I took).
Very nice teacher great choice
She's nice and a good grader, but it's just a standard 100 level communication class, so don't expect much enthusiasm or dedication. Kinda of cool we didn't have class for two weeks before Thanksgiving break.
Nice level class not overwhelming but not a easy A
I would remove the service points and add another individual speech assignment .
Gives several extra credit opportunities
I think grading was fair and feedback was helpful in improving my speeches.
They goodish.
Overall a good teacher. Tests and quizzes are easy and in groups. Speeches are graded fairly and according to course criteria.
She was good to have.
Is a tough grader on speeches but provides a lot of extra credit and other opportunities to get your grade up. Show up to class, do you're work and youll pass.
Shes nice
The class was good. I felt that she gave a fun and interesting course and would definitely take another class with this teacher.
Good class learn the basics of speech giving
Overall was a good class and good teacher
She grades very strict on speeches, but gives great feedback.
She is a great teacher!! I would recommend her to anyone! Really enjoyed the class!
The class is well organized. What you see in the syllabus is what you'll be getting from this class. Lots of opportunities for extra credit points so it's always good to take advantage of those things. Overall, I think she did a great job teaching this course and will recommend other students to take communications classes with her.
Overall this class has helped me with speaking in public and Im glad I have taken this.
I found myself in a group. It was so difficult.
Good class but speeches are important to do well on
Good class
Grading was a little unclear, but she did do a good job with keep the class hands on which helped with the learning experience.
The best way to handle this class is to attend and participate in the class, and make time to meet with your small group outside of class. There isnt excessive writing and reading is moderate. The classroom felt more casual, so I was surprised by the harsher style of grading.
A lot of presentations. Will help you become proficient in public speaking and group communications
Group projects
overall she is a great teacher, she will provide you very useful feedback and the course is quite interesting and fun to learn. I would recommend her to anyone trying to spice up their communication skills. Jared :)
Grades pretty hard, but gives out extra credit and encourages people to bring in food for the class!
Grading seemed odd.
Great professor, just show up and participate.
An amazing and fun class.
Pretty relaxed about grading.
I've had worse teachers. however, this class was bearable for the most part because of the instructor
I enjoyed this class, I learned a lot of useful stuff.
The class was a good learning experience for the most part however I do feel that her lecturing could use some work .
More specific of how we need to hand in the homework or papers that are due.
A rough grader but a nice teacher.
Great professor. gives good feedback!
I would recommend this class
The lectures aren't very interactive, she mainly just reads off of a slide. The grading criteria for speeches is clear and concise, which is nice because you always know what to expect to be graded by. Quizzes aren't too bad if you pay attention and there's not very many. Overall, she's nice and personable and the class is pretty easy going
Good teacher, but has random nit picks for grading, such as if you look at the side of the room she is sitting even for a second while giving a speech you will usually get docked a large chunk of points for not engaging with the audience.
Overall tough grader, makes you work harder for the next speech presentation. Always has good feedback for you to improve. Participating in a group is required for it is a group communications class. Super important to remember that it is your responsibility to meet and communicate with your class group. Great thing about the class is extra credit.
I remember in our fishbowl she gave us all Cs. All of us.
Show up to class, participate, read the book, COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR GROUP, or you shall not pass!
Very helpful class, professor genuinely cared and gave great feedback. Would take again.
Very clear teaching style, which makes it really easy for you to do well as long as you show up and apply yourself! She also offers a few extra credit opportunities if you dont do well on an assignment.
Good teacher with aspiration to teach. On the young side as well so being able to familiarize is easier. She's also very knowledgeable and helpful.
She's nice and the class is perfectly fair, provided you're okay with public speaking.
She was fair, didnt give points just because, you have to earn it. Nice class. I learned quite a bit. Overall I do recommend.
Awesome Teacher !
Excellent as a leader of her class. Cares for the wellbeing and learning style of her students. Fair and honest she works witth individuals to make sute they are learning the material and getting all that is possible from her material. Great at finding creative ways to teach amd interact with her students creating a fun and engaging classroom atmos
Really knows what shes talking about
She gives good feedback on speeches and definitely has a clear grading rubric that if you follow, you are guaranteed a good grade.
Solid teacher
I really enjoyed taking her class. Shes a great professor and shes easy to talk to when you have questions about the homework and class work. Id recommend her to students that want to take a communications class
Be the best to help you're group because its based on that and if you're involved then it'll be a fun and easy class!
I missed quite a bit of class one week because I couldn't wake up on time, but Rebecca was understanding and saw that I was trying to make it to class because I showed up one day and class was already over, but I was fortunate enough to bump into her on her way out of class and she gave me another chance to continue going to this class.
Favorites students and very bias
This class taught by this instructor I learned a lot because of the clear and detail feedback she gave back. You were given feedback after each speech which was really helpful so you can improve the next time.
