She is very nice, helps anyone that is not doing well, she can be wild at times, but it keeps you paying attention. Taking notes and paying attention to everything will help you.
She is a very nice teacher but requires a lot of reading outside of class, our class had to write 32 reaction papers based on the readings so be prepared to spend a lot of time reading 3-15 page articles and writing reactions to them. other than that the tests are easy as long as you attend class to get the notes.
She was NOT a good teacher AT ALL!!!!!! She was all over the place, trying to take notes in her class was like trying to follow a run-a-way ROLLERCOSTER. At first I was very interested but the next two classes everything change. Nothing is clear in this class. OH DON’T let me forget to tell you that she has a GOD complex and if I wanted to sign up
you have to keep journal up and don't get behind. test are easy if you have all her notes. she is good, and i had a good experience in her class
She was my favorite teacher. I went in with no interest what so ever in sociology and left loving it. As long as you come to class every day and take o.k. notes, you'll get an A. She likes to help you out!!
I really liked her class. You have to go to class to get her notes or you won't do well. The thing I liked most was that she always seemed really interested in what she was teaching. I didn't like that she was very opinionated, which may offend someone.
She was great. I was suppose to fail but I passed. YOU LEARN LIFE LESSONS IN HER LECTURES. She is down to earth and wants to meet people. The tests are easy if you take notes, and do your reactions. I learned so much about the world in general after her class. I took her last semester. I definately recommend her!!!!!!
Very fair teacher. If you go to class, pay attention, and take notes, you will do fine. The only not fun part was the folder of reaction papers. However, her class is very interesting and I definitely learned a lot, and not just about Sociology, but also life lessons as well. Thanks Dr. Hensley! :]
Miss Rebecca is a very opinionated lady. VERY interesting class but not the easiest in the world. take motes on EVEYTHING and you will do good. however, a fair WARNING; you WILL have to write at least 17 reaction papers with an article review that is 2 pages and 3 bonus papers! they are worth 60 points! ask her about points for perfect attendance!
She is one of the most honest teachers I have ever had. I took her for an upper level gender course and I learned so much in her class. She encourages discussion and is willing to help students understand in any situation. If you attend class regularly, participate, and have honest opinions, you will pass her class. If you have the chance to take a
She's a good teacher and has good lectures, but you have to write a ton of papers. {One for every class almost.}
Not only is the class really easy, Ms. Hensley is really cool. She's too real for some people, but for those of us in reality she is awesome. Take her- you'll learn a lot about the world around you as well as yourself.
SHE IS DA BOMB!! THIS LADY KNOWS HER STUFF!!TEST ARE EASY AND ONLY HOMEWORK IS REACTIONS TO YOUR READINGS! VERY EASY!!!
SHe is extremely passionate about what she does. I would reccomend her to anyone.
SHE IS MY HOMIE... IF YOU WOULD EVER NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE REAL WORLD IS LIKE? YOU SHOULD REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY TAKE HER CLASS! YOU REALLY GET SOMETHING OUT OF IT AND YOU ARE ABLE TO PASS.
Seriously, Ms. Hensely knows what she's talking about. She's sooooo informed and up to date with what's going on in the world, and is a very effective teacher. She gives a few assignments, but they're applicable. Take her, not Castro, seriously. She's worth it.
I recommend to take her if you are interested in sociology.
Sometimes I wonder if this woman lives in reality, or if she's a nutcase escapee from an insane asylum.
very informed teacher. knows her stuff. Ms. Hensley is willing to help if you want to help yourself. I highly reccommend her class
Really peaked my interest in what is going on in the world around me. I Loved her style of teaching. She made a subject that I was not interested in, very interesting. She gets a A+
SHE'S A REAL NICE TEACHER AND SHE MAKES THE CLASS INTERESTING. OVERALL THE CLASS IS VERY EASY.
Ms. Hensley does a good job of keeping you interested in class and it is obvious that she cares alot about what she teaches. Her tests are straight from the notes( alot of note taking). I will say that being a sociologist makes her very pessimistic about everything and it shows. She is very very very very very opinionated and one-sided on the issue
She is a great teacher. Attendance is crucial. Her tests are straight from the notes, they are very easy as long as you go to class and take good notes you will do great. Overall she is a great teacher. I highly recommend her.
She is a really nice person and she is very interesting to listen to. Her notes are crucial to passing the class. The only thing I didn't like was all of the reaction papers. Even if you don't have a reaction to the reading you are still required to write a full page.
I love her, she is sooo real. Everything that she teaches relates to real life and half of it she has lived, seriously! To say that her class is interesting is not saying enough, she is straight forward and sorry if you don't like it. All I have to say is if you have a chance to see her in action do it!!! Most teachers show up for their paycheck
I love Ms.Hensley.She is real passionate about her work and relates what you learn in class to everyday situations.I totally recommend taking her class.
I had her for sociology 101. She is very interesting, and I loved this class. I had a very high B, but it is crucial that you show up and take notes. The tests are right from the notes, and she does give extra credit. If I had the chance to take her again, I definitely would!
The absolute best teacher EVER!!! She is so interesting and makes you want to go to class. You do have to show up to class if you want to pass because it's nothing but lecture and your notes are the tests. She does give extra credit throughout the semester and it's not hard at all!! Take her if you want an easy A
Hensley is great! Fun, Vivacious, sincere & all the way a good teacher. She keeps the class interesting & basically no homework besides discussion boards which are just readings & gives extra credit oppurtunities. TAKE HENSLEY IF YOU ACTUALLY WOULD LIKE TO LEARN & GET A GOOd GRADE
Wonderful teacher!! I'm required to take sociology and i eneded up loving it because of her! you have to go to class because she explains all the notes that she gives! very passionate about what she teaches! i would 100% recommend her!
Professor Hensley is a great teacher in my opinion. She is very passionate in her lecture and really puts the students first in our attempt to learn. Going to class is highly recommended. Test are simply from the notes. Real Good teacher :)
I have no interest in sociology, I have to take it for my major, and I think this class is a complete waste of my time! The teacher is kinda crazy and doesn't seem very approachable, to be honest she kinda scares me.. Her tests are kinda hard, I studied a lot for her test and I made a B. Don't take this class if you don't want to read the book!
She makes things easy to understand but teaches her biases. She reeks of discrimination and prejudices due to her stance of oppression of African Americans by European Americans. She repeatiously refered to this causing the classroom maintained a constant segregation. The reactions papers where on the subject and outdated(1905).DONT TAKE HER!
good teacher just attend class and if you take notes you'll get an A. Attendance is not mandatory but is recommended if you want an A in the class.
If you are passionate about politics, I might reconsider taking her. She teaches her point of view which I disagreed with 100% of the time and when you try to argue or state your point she quickly changes the subject. She will freak you out on the first day but thats just her personality. Other than that its not a very bad class
Ms. Hensley is very high with energy and fun. She teaches alot about the study of humans and their behaviors. I think about sociology all the time. its a great class for anyone to take.
This teacher is kind of crazy. She just seems to make up whatever she wants to explain her cause not caring if the facts are right or not. She reminded me of a conspiracy theorist. If you can understand what information you actually need the test are not too hard, but I had a hard time just sitting in class.
She is the best teacher I've ever had. She doesn't just go by the book and guidelines. If you have an open mind and are able to view things from a different perspective you'll love her class. She tells it how it is even though it makes people uncomfortable. Awesome woman!
I loved this class. She is amazing. I needed this class orginally but when I changed my major I no longer needed, but since I liked it so much I kept it. You must go to class and take notes from her lectures, but she will keep your attention. Class overall was very easy take notes, only 3 test mult. choice, and no comperhensive final.
I HATED this class it was horrible. Her lectures are great but her test are really hard.
I took her last summer and she is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Not necessarily because of what she teaches but she is a true genuine person. She helped me out alot outside of class with some personal issues I was having! I absolutely LOVE her!!!
She's a very good teacher and is willing to work with you to pass the class. She always keeps you wanting more.?
I really liked going to her lectures. Very cool woman. Keepin' it real though, she does get preachy at times. But it kept me interested in what was going on in class - take her if you can. I recommend :)
She is an amazing teacher - she teaches things you will actually use in life as opposed to most classes which you will forget about as soon as you turn in your final exam. I've had her for 4 classes, and she always brings it and her classes always leave an impact
Interesting lectures but talks way too much about her own personal life and it is impossible to take decent notes in this class. Take Russel Castro instead.
Way to liberal for my taste, but still a very passionate teacher. Don't expect her class to be easy because it is not. However, it is not difficult either.
Very interesting class, loved it.
She is an awesome teacher. She knows what she's talking about and loves to teach sociology. Showing up and taking notes are very important. If you pay attention to her lectures, take notes, and read the readings assigned with the reaction papers; it will be a very easy class for you. I recommend her to all!
I would not recommend the class. The tests are pretty difficult. She posts a study guide of topics the day before the exam; however, there is much more than the topics on the study guide on the exam. Definitely read the assigned readings. She goes off on rants about her personal life very often.
This Professor is terrible. Late for every class. She rambles the entire lecture, and wonders why we cannot cover material before test time.
She is a very nice person, will help, gives extra credit. Straight lectures, kinda hard to take notes, she uses the textbook alot for readings. Test are kinda hard. I haven't missed a class yet and I'm barely passing.
The name of this course should be changed to "Rebecca Hensley Story Hour". Every single topic discussed in class is overshadowed by long-winded monologues about her own life. It was okay at first but after the 8th week and 16th lecture about extremely personal details of her past, it became annoying and she started to come off as very egocentric.
This professor rants and rambles the whole class. She thinks she is radical and an intellectual, but is stuck in her old ways re-living the past one class at a time. It gets very old very fast and she seems to push all her students away. Don't take this class if you want to learn about sociology. Take another teacher.
I absolutely loved this teacher. I plan to take another one of her Sociology classes as an elective. The whole class is a big conversation. It's not a boring powerpoint. She's very into her lectures and she's good at it.
She is absolutely amazing! Best teacher ever! Very fair and is more than willing to help you if you're not happy with your grade. Keeps things interesting and she is very passionate about the subject she teaches! Highly recommend you take her!
AMAZING TEACHER!!! I looked forward to going to this class every morning. She is very easy, gives you 4 reaction papers on an interesting story and you just write how you feel! 3 test, and those are your only grades.. plenty of bonus. Her teachings arent out the book, and she tells great stories to keep you interested. I would take again!
This is the best professor I've ever had! I took her intro class as an elective and after her class I decided to change my major to sociology! She's very passionate about her classes and is willing to help students. As long as you do the readings and reaction papers you'll be fine!
Hensley's gender class is awesome! Really forces you to look at patriarchy as a system and question your part in it as an individual. Warning: This class may change your life
TODAY WAS MY FIRST DAY IN HER CLASS AND SHE WAS ON FIRE. IT'S A MORNING CLASS AND IF YOU'RE NOT A MORNING PERSON TRUST ME, MS. REBECCA WILL KEEP YOU ENTERTAINED. ALL OF HER TESTS ARE MULTIPLE CHOICE AND ARE SAID TO BE PRETTY EASY IF YOU STUDY THE NOTES. SHE IS VERY COOL! IF YOU NEED AN ELECTIVE CLASS THIS IS THE CLASS! TAKE HER! MS.REBECCA HENSLEY
She is genuinely excited about her material. However, most of what is presented is not Sociology. Best way to get an A in this class is to remember the following: Whites are bad, Men are bad, Capitalism is bad, Anything opposed to them is inherently good and pure. This is not libel. This is an accurate description of her course, and I made an A.
She has so much passion for her work. If you pay attention in class and read the readings you'll pass. There are 3 test and a number of reaction papers. They are only a page. I made a B; I could've had an A. She even gives you the a chance to boost your grade with bonus. Take her!!
Awesome, thought provoking instructor... A lot of writing but sign up for her race class, you won't be sorry! 10 reaction papers, 1 multiple choice midterm, 1 5 page essay final. I made an A.
She is my favorite teacher I've ever had. Very thought provoking. One of the only classes I've ever felt like I actually learned in. She helps you realize the realities of what have always been in your face but you never tried to know. Not too difficult. TAKE HER!!!!
Her stories are very interesting! She really gets into it when she's teaching. Attendance is mandatory if you want to do good on the tests.
she talked to much about nonsense i had to drop her class, but i think i could have stuck in there if i really wanted to
She's very interesting to listen to. She's extremely opinionated but if you can figure out a way to agree with her opinion on all of her papers and tests you'll be perfectly fine. She's a really sweet lady and really helpful.
liberal as hell almost to the point where you can't even figure out what she's lecturing on because she adds so much opinion. not that hard but super annoying!
she is so chill like for real, like she not your normal teacher but i like that, she crazy fun, plus i thank she one that good if ya know what i mean... DEF TAKE HER
I thought this class was interesting and almost fun at times. Dr. Hensley's lectures were always accompanied by ridiculous stories that helped you understand some of the concepts. Sometimes she gets a bit behind, but she does try to catch up. She does have her opinions, but she doesn't force you to believe anything. Take her if you have the chance!
Sometimes I think she should have been born black when in her class but I loved her class, she was a nonensense lady but she was not mean. yes she does ramble and we do spend like 20 minutes talking about something about her life but she was easy and loves what she does. she round up in grades and gives alot of chances for extra credit.
An overall great teacher. You can tell that she defiantly knows what shes talking about, although she got off topic quite a bit. She has her own opinion, ties in her life experiences into lectures to help you understand.Hardly used the books, except for mandatory things. Pay attention & you'll pass. She also gives lots of extra credit opportunities!
she is one of the best teachers i have ever had.you have to write a lot of reaction papers but she doesn't grade your opinion; you can disagree with her.she takes in late papers.she is extremely understanding and won't take points off.she is very passionate about what she does and you will not be sleepy in her class.took her for gender and race too
Before attending this class I was totally nervous. This class by far has set my pace for the rest of my classes thus far. I ended up changing my major to Sociology because she truly makes you think outside of the box. Reaction papers, xtra credit, 2 exams. Love her! Take her! Won't regret!
I love her! she makes you actually think but you dont mind it! if you study and do the reaction papers you will do fine.
I really like her personality. She is very entertaining. She got off track sometimes when telling stories but she's very interesting to listen to and knows how to spice up a sociology class. I didn't agree with all of her personal opinions, but I did agree with some. I won't be changing my major to sociology anytime soon but I am glad I took her.
WOW! That is the best word to describe this woman! Her gender class is truly eye opening and life changing!!! I cannot stop taking her classes and she is not even my major. Go to class and read the material! She will open your world from what it is now and make you a new person. Take her if you want a life changing experience. LOVE HER!!!
Seriously, take her! She is an amazing teacher who really cares about her students! Test are MC and are EASY as long as you go to class ( which are interesting). You have a total of 5 reaction papers( only a page long, double spaced), which are simple ( mine never took more than 40 min). Also, she is very nice! You wont regret taking her i promise
This woman is crazy! She teaches her opinion and brain washes the entire class. Do not take her unless you want to be repulsed every time you walk into the class room. She is been through alot in her life and I do feel bad for her, but that didn't make my classroom experience any less miserable.
Loved her, she keeps it real about the world around us. Anyone that doesn't like her became completely closed minded the minute she said something they didn't like. Stay open minded, and you'll love her.
Loved her. So real and down to earth. Makes you open your eyes and realize whats going on. Very open minded and just wonderful. Highly suggest taking her.
She a wonderful teacher! You will leave her class with an open mind. Throughout the semester you will have 3 reaction papers to right and 3 test. Make sure you take good notes and pay attention! She does ramble a lot one one subject but it is interesting to hear what she has to say! Best professor I have had so far!
While she does spend a lot of time talking about her personal stories, she was one of my favorite professors. She can really open your eyes to the world if you listen to her lectures with an open mind. Shes also just a very kind person. ") Not a difficult class. She is also understanding when you talk to her.
She has her own opinions on the subject, but the material taught is VERY EASY, yet somehow on her multiple choice tests she manages to confuse and trick you. I studied hard (started 4 days in advance and never missed class) my 3.7 nursing GPA will not be ruined by a "D" DON"T TAKE
If you are looking for an easy A, do not take her. I received an A, but I went to class, took good notes, studied for tests, and read what was assigned. Very helpful and interesting teaching. Has tons of stories to keep class interesting. Would take her again.
If you are looking for an easy A,do not take her. You have to work for your grade. Gives you bonus opportunities which can help grade tremendously. I went to class, took notes, and read the reader assignments. You don't need to read the book, just take good notes & read the reader for tests. Would recommend for hard workers and would take her again
Her tests are ridiculous. I still have no idea where any of her questions come from. She makes you read out of both books, but her questions come from neither of them. Don't take!
I love Ms. Hensley. She is so helpful and would do anything to help you out. I love how she doenst sugar code the truth and it like it is. Its a hard class but if you get to know her you will love her. Study and work hard! you will pass. She would go out the way to help you! shes the best! I love rebecca and would recommend her to hard workers!
One of my all time favorite professors! Rebecca Hensley will make you think outside of the box (welcome to the real world, it's not all rainbows and butterflies), which gave her bonus points in my book. With every topic covered she has a real life situation - whether it be her own or a study she has read about - to relate topics to the students.
This woman really knows her stuff. She is one of the best teachers I've ever had in my life!! Her classes really make you think and she makes her lectures easy to remember. She relates most topics to her personal experiences which are usually funny or hard hitting. She's a tough cookie, but it is so worth the amount of knowledge you will get. TAKE!
She uses big words and sounds very intelligent when she speaks so if you have a low vocabulary and many things go over your head she is not for you
There are plenty of things a student can say about Hensley, but the most accurate would be inspiring. Hensley has a sharp and witty tongue which makes her extra funny. She is very passionate about her work and extremely knowledgeable. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU LIKE TO TALK!! She will point you out. She loves to help you and is always humble.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS WOMAN! She is so PASSIONATE about what she teaches, she will go over something with you again and again! Allows Late work! VERY UNDERSTANDING. She wants her students to succeed! She REALLY knows what she is talking about! I WOULD TAKE HER OVER AND OVER. She is literally the best. She allows extra credit at the end of semester
She is a wonderful teacher. She has a huge heart and treats her students so well. There was never a class I didnt get something out of. I take her next semester again and I cant wait. she makes me feel like i can have a better life.
Mrs. Hensley is one of the best teachers I have ever taken. The class can be difficult, but if you read the material and do the study guides, there should be no problem getting an A. She really hates when you text or talk in her class. Very nice woman and gives students plenty of extra credit opportunities. Honestly, please take her. AMAZING!
Hensley is my favorite college professor so far! All you have to do to get an A in this class is read the textbook and take notes on her lectures. She is amazing!
Will change your life, if you think she is brain washing you then she is doing her job. After her class you will have two perspectives in life. 1. your thoughts 2. Her thoughts. She is trying to change the word :) love her. I'm a male as well
You must attend class to pass. Her tests come straight from her lectures and the assigned readings. There are only 3 tests so make sure and study hard for each one. The reaction papers are easy enough and she gives up to 15 points of bonus for extra papers. You aren't required to join and participate in sociology club like in Castro's class.
awesome teacher. very interesting. you must take notes the entire class period and read the assigned readings. the test are okay. you must study. she gives a study guide. 27 bonus points in the class! 3 tests. final is not cumulative. you're always learning something new! great class and highly recommend! positive, wonderful woman!
There was a TON of reading and video lectures. Does not ask too much of students though. Gets controversial at times, but good lectures if you are interested in sociology. Makes people think outside of the box. Tests come from lectures and 2 different textbooks so read everything. Glad it was online though because there is a lot of material.
The tests are tough but if you go to class, take clear notes and study the study guides, without doing any reading, you can slide by with a C on the tests. The textbook readings are a must! She also assigns reaction papers on readings but these can be an easy A and for the most part, she's very lenient on the due dates!
Lectures are all over the place so take the best notes you can. Follows straight from the syllabus. Make sure you do all readings and assignments she gives or you won't pass. Not many tests at all. Sweet lady, just confusing and rambles a lot. I barely went to class but kept up with it and the assignments and did fine. DO ALL BONUS OPPORTUNITIES!
Great Professor! Gives study guides before each exam, she uses personal experiences and real life situations to help clear up the meaning of terms. She's is extremely sweet. Her test are easy if you read the assigned readings, watch the video lectures, and take good notes. Passed her class with an A. Take advantage of the extra credit too.
Three exams total & final is NOT cumulative. Gives study guide day prior to test. Read assigned passages from the sociology reader AND from the actual textbook (uses examples from both when doing test questions). Lectures are spoken word, and as a visual learner this was quite the challenge for me. Attendance is taken every class, but not graded.
Hensley is Hensley. She gave two tests on one book called "Rigging the Game". It was really good and interesting, but she can sometimes get off topic in class. She had 3 reflection papers. 2 pages each, personal writing. The final was a 5 page paper about how you could fix inequality. Shes just great. You have to take her at least once.
Three exams. READ and WATCH THE VIDEOS if you want a decent grade. Made a 68 the first test without doing the readings or videos. 94 on second test because I realized my mistake. Her study guides are pretty straight forward, just know the just of the term .
As long as you show up to class and read the book you should easily be able to pass. Hensley offers a lot of extra credit (17 points worth) do the extra credit!!
Gives 3 exams total. Take notes, pay attention, read, and watch the videos. She lectures the whole time, can't be on your phone and can't talk in class. She does allow you to show up late though. Miss no classes & 2pts are added to your grade at the end. The extra credit opportunity she gives to get 17 points helps, so do that.
I find that there are students who love her & students that hate her. I hate her. She commonly gets off subject, talks about her family when it has nothing to do with the lecture. Soc is supposed to be open minded, she teaches closed minded. 3 exams. Final not cumulative. Read all of the assignments & watch all videos, you shall pass. DON'T TALK.
Doctor Hensely was a great sociology professor! I took her summer online class, and I found it to be very organized and involved with the video discussions and her personal lectures. She gives great feedback on the Interactions readings. She also offers extra credit before the final examination. It is the student's fault if they do not do well.
Great Teacher!!! She makes her lectures easy to understand. She's really interesting when you open up your mind and listen.
All classes are spoken lectures, no power points and she barely writes anything on the white board. It's pretty hard to take notes because she rambles a lot. The only grades you get are from tests so you have to make sure you do the readings that she assigned on the syllabus.
Prof Hensley is very passionate about sociology, which makes her lectures interesting. She does not use any form of powerpoint during lectures, she just talks so I recommend recording her or just writing everything down that she talks about. She only gives you 3 tests, and some extra credit.
Class was frustrating because instead of reviewing the readings, she would ramble about her life which for the most part was irrelevant to the course material. Students barely had a chance to take notes or reflect on what they learned. Read, watch the films and you will pass. I love her as a person, but not as a professor, so I wouldn't recommend.
She is really sweet and intriguing to talk to after class:) can bounce around a lot on topics, but by the end of the lecture I understand. Teaches from beginning to end of time so don't expect to leave early. Also, there are only 3 tests the entire semester so make sure you study. That is all you're graded on almost. I recommend her though: )
Professor Hensley is amazing! You will get out of this class what you put into it. I skipped maybe a third of the lectures but used quizlet to study for the tests and made it out alive with a B. Not a difficult class, but will absolutely change your perspective about the world. I highly recommend her.
Honestly one of the worst professors I have ever had. Her lectures are so condescending, we're in college--we aren't idiots. She waxes poetic about how she's "teaching us to learn," & yet her exams are the same memorize & forget format as every other 101 class I've taken. At least if you know anything about the world you can pass with an A or B.
WORST teacher at SLU. So very Liberal and all of the class is about her opinion. Get ready to hear a load of George Bush being best friends with Osama Bin Laden. Does not have any respect for the military. If you love America and capitalism, avoid this class at all costs. If you have to take her, stay in your dorm and just read the textbook.
She is a little insane but she is very wise and nice. She talks for the whole class period. I didn't write down a single thing during her class but I found sociology to be like psychology (easy and common sense). She gives study guides which are all on quizlet. Pretty easy class, gives extra credit. Make sure you go to class cause she will drop you
You only have 3 exams and extra credit papers. She is awesome!!! Take her
She is a very passionate professor, but her personal views on politics is often brought up in class. As long as you pay attention in class and read readings assigned you should do pretty good, although a lot of her lecture includes her rambling about politics or her family.
Ms. Hensley is a great professor she has great lecture and inspiring words , if you are nervous about taking this class you will do fine if you just show up, pay attention, and study the material given.
Ms. Hensley is very passionate about her students, she tries to incorporate real life views into her lectures. I used a recorder in her class because you can get lost in her message because she often goes off topic. She offers bonus points where its impossible for you to fail. if you fail it was because you either missed class or didn't try.
The class was not very hard. But you do have to do all the assignments to pass. I did not study or do very many of the readings and still passed with a good grade. I did take the course online so it was a lot crammed into 3 weeks of summer.
I really enjoyed taking Dr. Hensley. She is very nice and clear about what she expects from students. She responds to emails quickly with a positive attitude. YOU MUST READ THE BOOKS!! The test are not hard, IF you read them. Lectures aren't too bad. I'd take her again if I could.
Class is VERY small. Book is posted online for us so we don't have to purchase it through amazon for like $20. Midterm is a group project presentation. Lots of guest speakers. Basically just go to class and you'll do REALLY REALLY well in this class. She likes to get to know her students and will do anything she can to help you. COURAGEOUS WOMAN!!!
I did not like the way she lectured. She didn't post notes or have a powerpoint. She barely wrote things on the board. We basically had to listen to what she was saying and write it down. She is a nice person but not a good teacher. She always is off topic. I ended up withdrawing from her class to prevent from having a F.
Only 3 tests all semester- no acucum. final. Lectures are boring and long. Studied every quizlet that existed night before test & got B's on all tests. Offers 15 points of extra credit to help. She is very liberal & gets off track a lot. She knows her stuff, but I zoned out a lot in class. Sit by a friend to make it less miserable & to sign you in.
Always off topic. Barely writes anything on the board. Left for Cuba and we basically had to learn everything ourselves. Hated every minute.
As an online class she gives multiple chapters to read then expects you to know tiny details for the test that you wouldn't think you needed to know for the test. I emailed her 4 times throughout the semester and never got an answer to any of them. She gives a lot of work all for a grade but is unclear on what she wants you to learn. Don't take her
Hensley is VERY passionate about what she teaches. Some students are bothered by her hard stance on topics, however if you attend class and pick up on when to take notes you can easily pass this class. you don't have to agree with her on everything she says to still do well in the class
My semester with professor Hensley was phenomenal. She has a way to make you see things like you've never viewed them before. Her class was phenomenal just make sure you do your readings and show up to class (but pay attention, which isn't hard because her lectures are actually interesting)
Make sure you study for her tests!! READ THE READINGS, because there are questions on the tests about them!! If you dont miss a day of class, she will add two bonus points at the end of the semester; those two bonus points are what brought me from a 'B' to an 'A.'
She is never on topic and goes off on tangents. I never have a clue what we actually are learning or what to even write down.
If you attend class every day and take notes on the lectures you can easily get an A or a B. She is very passionate about what she does and makes sure everyone really gets the she is trying to teach. Remember it's Sociology. She teaches sociological explanations, it doesn't fit many people's political beliefs, but that is simply the subject.
She is really passionate about her work! Her lectures are good and you have to take good notes on them so whenever she does post the study guide (with only key terms and concepts) you have the definitions for them. You do have to do some reading out of the textbooks because it will have things on the exams based on it. I would recommend taking her
She tends to be very condescending. If I hear "I got a degree in a calendar year" or "Mensa accepted me as a teenager" again, I might scream. She is very knowledgeable. You have to read the readings, she will put petty 'what example was used in the book' questions on the exam as if that determines if you know the content.
IT was hard but she is a great teacher , if you fail the first test you HAVE to pass the next 2 or you fail
Ms. Hensley is probably one of my favorite professors. She tries her hardest to help you understand and actually enjoy her lectures. She wants everyone to succeed and thats the best type of professor. You do have to read up on things before the test but she tells you exactly what you need to read and watch to pass. I have a B in the class.
I love her so much! Shes very understanding cares about her students! Gives great lectures! Shares so many great stories!
She lectures the entire time, and it's pretty awful. She's very liberal. It's hard to tell what to take notes on because she always tells stories and back tracks. It's best to write down whatever she writes on the board and listen for the definition/explanation and half tune in for things she seems to emphasize/repeat. Take w/ a friend if you can
She's awesome, has a wonderful personality, and is passionate about what she does. This is something that is a real rarity nowadays, and should be cherished. If you have the opportunity, take her. You won't regret it. She made my experience transitioning onto campus easier, which means a lot considering I've had a lot to deal with personally.
I would highly recommend this course if you WANT to learn it. She is a great teacher and is also VERY smart. She cares about you and will go the extra mile to help you. She will also go over exams grades with you and point out the errors and make sure you don't make them on the next exam. Take it, you won't regret it!
I took this class as an elective and as seeing as I'm not interested in Sociology at all, this class did not catch my attention. She seemed to go off on tangents A LOT! and her tests are strictly from readings, not lectures She gives extra credit for having perfect attendance (give or take 1 day), and only one other extra credit assignment.
Shes very caring for her students but she gets off topic almost every class. I took this as an easy elective and it took up more time studying than my core classes. She talks fast and you never know what parts of the lecture are important.
I attended every class, did all the readings, studied a lot, did every extra credit assignment and got an A by the skin of my teeth. Her class is interesting but she is very opinionated and gets sidetracked very easily. She never got through all of the material needed for exams and uploaded videos of herself lecturing to make up for it.
Her online exams were hard. She is very opinionated in her lectures. We had three tests and no final. There are a bunch of little assignments that you must do. Write them to your audience (liberally).
all test questions come from tiny details from textbook and readings you wouldn't expect to need to know. discussion board and reflection papers on every module. offers 15 point extra credit at the end. very tough class.
Got an A by the hair on my chin. Only reason I did was because I did extra credit at the end. But I definitely had to put in work to even reach that A. You HAVE to read the readings. There are questions on the tests that are so specific they had to have come from the textbook. This class was hard but she does care about students and their grades.
From the beginning to end, she lectures. Her voice is so dull and you will get bored of listening. She sometimes goes off topic talking about personal stuff with her life in the past. If you skip her class or dont take notes, you will fail.
she is very opinionated and loves to go on tangents about her personal life but she knows her stuff read your readings and pay good attention in class and you should pass its a lo of work and very hard test be wary if you choose her i personally think she is okay professor she just needs to be more organized but overall very knowledgeable
