One of the nicest professors you'll ever meet. She's not big on attendance, but I suggest you go if you want to pass. It's a tough class, but if you listen, read the textbook, and study hard, you should be able to pass with no problem. She will help you if you're ever in need and is pretty good with explaining things.
There was a lot of information to cover in this class. That made it hard. She explained a the subject well and was very helpful if you had questions. She is a good professor. I'd be interested in taking another class with her. but, she only does 101.
She pretty much just reads from the book and only gives tests as the grades. She doesnt tell you at all what the tests on you just have to read the ENTIRE book ti have a chance at passing. She is really nice but I didnt enjoy her teaching style at all.
one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet. the class was hard, and requires a LOT of reading from the book if you want to pass. Your grade consists of 10 tests..no final. You have 3 chances to take the test. She takes attendance everyday- you have 3 absenses to use. She uses life examples to explain. Would recommend!
really good teacher!!!
Very good instructor, uses good life examples to explain difficult concepts. She cares about her students and is very fair. I would definitely reccomend this professor and would take another class with her!
Wonderful Prof! She doesn't talk AT you, rather she lets the class take over the discussion. I never read the book, just listen to what she says in class and take decent notes and you'll do fine. Tests are 10 mc and 4 short answer, just use a lot of examples. the lowest grade i got on a test (or anything) was a 98!
She is excellent and is very helpful. I went to her for extra help and she really helped me get my grade back up. She gives you the one on one thing and that is really helpful for me and I am taking another class with her in the fall.
Love her. She reminds me of the pigeon lady from Home Alone 2. :) Besides that she is a really good teacher. She is very helpful and is willing to go above and beyond to help you succeed. Would recommend her as a PSY teacher.
Had her my first semester as a college student. Absolutely LOVED her. Psy101 has ATON of material. She can't help that, only teach it the best she can-which she does. She uses a ton of life examples and when you don't get something she will completely change her wording and examples until you do. If you take PSY101 GET HER AS YOUR PROF.!!!
shes really nice even if youre annoying in her class. very helpful, shell go over your tests and explain why you got a question wrong
Mrs Horwitz was one of the best professors I've had yet. Very easy to understand, and very helpful in class. She was quick to respond to E-Mails, and had a lot of good advise.
Professor Horwitz is warm and engaging in her approach, she is completely thorough with ALL of the material and gives her students every chance to pass. Should you need help understanding the material she is very easy to approach, I had her for psychology 101 in spring 12 -O.J. Young
She is an awesome teacher.I highly recommend taking a class with her.One of the best professors at MCC.She is fair/understanding and is willing to help.Professor Horwitz explains the material very well.I retain so much of her lectures because she makes the material relatable. She has a great teaching style. She's a great professor!
I wasn't sure is the class was for me but i thoroughly impressed with how well she transfer the information i became involved almost in all aspects if the class and found myself outside of class having thought provoking conversations with my classmates on discussion subject. I have highly recommended her to many of my fellow students.
She is one of the most helpful understanding professors I have ever had. Now you HAVE to read the book. But she does reviews and tutoring and is nice and helpful. Im trying to take more classes with her but she is not teaching what I want next semester. LOVE her, Take her class!
Ms. Horwitz is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met, she tends to lose control of the pace of instruction at times but this is in part due to her high level of helpfulness. Psych 101 is challenging in general but if you use the study guide provided on angel you will succeed. Highly recommended!
Amazing Professor!!! Such a sweet lady. If you don't understand something, she'll take the time to help you out. Had a smile on her face every day and made the class enjoyable. Make sure you take all 3 tests that MCC allows you to take for psych 101!
I loved her!! She was so nice, helpful and understanding. She truly cares about her students and wants them to do well. Super interesting class, but you have to participate. Can't just sit in the corner and be quiet and text. Never a boring class. Learned a lot!
Professor Horowitz is an outstanding teacher. Not only does she make sure the whole class has clarity, but she also makes extreme efforts to assist students on anything they may be stuck on. I would recommend her out of all the professors I've had so far at MCC. Thank You Mrs. Horowitz :)
Professor Horwitz is the best! I absolutely loved her and she made psych 101 as easy as possible. There is tons of material, but if you attend class, read the textbook, and take all three tests, you'll be fine. It was a pretty easy A for me, mainly because of her. I hope to have her for future psych classes.
I LOVE Prof. Horwitz! This was my first semester and a lot of my friends are already in college and they told me to be prepared because professors didn't care about personal life they just wanted you in class - WRONG! She has a heart and is understanding, and knows how to teach well. I will definitely reach out to her if needed in the future.
I don't think she really knew the material very well. A lot of the time her lectures examples didn't match up with the information in the textbook. Very nice, but teaches to the test, not for the sake of students learning. VERY systematic class set up with no flexibility. No fault to her though, its just how MCC psych dept is set up
She is a very sweet woman. She doesn't use Power Points for this class; she just stands up and lectures. The textbook is a little dry, but not overly obnoxious. It's a helpful class in the long run, though at times it can seem tedious and useless. Tests are where you have to write out long answers--meaning several paragraphs for each question.
Prof. Horwitz is an amazing teacher. Super sweet woman as well. Tests in PSY 200 were all essay style. Honestly, just do your work and pay attention in class and you'll do fine. She lets you know everything going on throughout the semester the first day, including due dates. She actually cares about her students which is so refreshing at MCC!
Took her for Social Psych on M & W, and she kind of taught right from the text. At the end of each class I felt like I wasn't learning anything new. She also had students talk on every wednesday class about articles that we read and did 1 page long reviews on and I always found it a waste of my time. Decent professor, easier A, and humorous.
She's a good teacher. Gives very good vibes and helps you if you need help. She is very caring about education and wants to see you succeed.
Professor Horwitz is such a sweet lady and truly wants to see her students succeed. She gives many examples in her lectures and no homework assignments (however if you do not read the text book you will not pass) I feel like there was more emphasis on memorization rather than on grasping concepts. Over all I had a good experience.
i had thought that this class was going to be a huge drag especially during intersession but it was actually the opposite. professor horwitz is a witty, knowledgeable and helpful teacher who clearly has a lot of experience in the field. she provids many examples and stories that ties into the information taught. she makes it easy to pay attention
Excellent teacher. Highly recommend!
Amazing!! Highly recommend!
This professor is by far the best Psychology teacher at MCC. I would take another course with her anyday. We need more professors like her at MCC. Ones that care for their students; wants them to succeed. She is a professor that guides students into the right direction her door is always open to help understand any material one is struggling with.
I took behavior modification with Horwitz and it was HORRIBLE. She reads straight from the text and does not go in depth about any of the concepts. If you read the book, there is no reason to come to class. She seems very unorganized and doesn't seem to put much thought into the class/materials. Tests are easy. Did not gain anything from he class.
Professor Horwitz has a heart of gold and is just a generally upbeat person. She is very reasonable/flexible if you approach her and are transparent. The concepts / learning objectives in PSY101 come right from the text so as long as you keep up with reading and homeworks you're fine.
Highly recommended! Some might say she teaches right from the book, but the MCC Psychology 101 program is weird like that. They mandate that the exact same thing is taught by all professors to all the 2000 students at the same time, so she doesn't have a choice. However, she makes it fun and throws in a relevant, funny story from time to time.
Very passionate about her field. Depended more on the powerpoints (and made them readily available) than discussion, but when discussion came up it was good. She did a nice job with a course many students struggle with. I think our section had a higher class average then several other sections I had friends in. 6x 20Q exams, No papers, No final.
She will force you to engage which is scary at first but by the end of the semester you will appreciate her doing so !
She will force you to engage which is scary at first but by the end of the semester you will appreciate her doing so ! You'll wish other classes are like hers
She is such a caring and kind woman. You wont regret taking a class with her!
To be quite honest, I had higher hopes for this class. It is an online class where each assignment is due a specific day of the week and only available from the previous Sunday. She will not accept anything if it is even 1 minute late. Altogether not a good experience with an online class. Material was easy but I would not recommend her to anyone.
She has a lot of experience outside of teaching that she applies to every lecture, makes it easy to understand and remember the material just from lectures. No homework, EASY testing. She is super sweet, great with students, incredibly intelligent and well spoken. You can tell this is not her first rodeo, and she loves what she does.
Amazing. She doesn't just read the slides, she explains everything and has stories with them. Very fun
She's such a funny professor. She does't just read the slides in lecture, she actually helps you learn the concepts.
Read before lecture, go into the PSY lab. Two things that will allow you to get an A! Teacher was great at explaining examples, and giving examples that make you remember material. She was nice, and the class was only based on tests. She will do what she can to prepare you for the tests for the unit.
OMG ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS AT MCC! She is so nice and I love her lectures! She provides you with the slides that she uses in class and you can write notes that help you understand the slides! I also love how you have three chances for the test! Definitely would take her again if I have the chance
She is a nice lady and is really caring. The only grades you will have are for the tests so you will know your grades. And you can make up any of them but in the psych learning center. I got a B+ without buying the textbook or retaking any tests so if you DO, you'll obviously get a better grade. Pretty easy class though
Had her because my actual prof had to take a leave of absence. I'm honestly glad it went that way. She is sweet and knowledgeable. You can approach her with any questions.
I loved her. She was an amazing professor. I would most likely take another course that she would be teaching. Her lectures weren't boring considering that she had a story for almost every learning objective. She only missed like 2 classes, but she always had a backup plan for it. Loved her. Amazing.
I loved her. She's an amazing professor. She doesn't just read the slides she actually helps you learn the concepts. She always has stories to tell. I would take her class again.
She is an amazing professor. She is willing to work with you to help you out. There is a textbook and there are 7 unit exams. Thats it! Also, you can take each exam 3 times. She is definitely a great professor.
Horrible teacher
Horwitz was a great professor! Only thing you had to do in her class is show up so you won't miss the important lectures then take the 3 test required for each unit. She gave great examples for terms and answered everyones questions. Super friendly and always had a bright smile on her face. Will definitely consider taking her again
She is an amazing professor. I've taken her in person and online. Her online class was difficult, but she makes you work for it. She does take a long time to put grades in and to respond to emails.
Professor Horowitz does NOT give you constructive criticism. She will tell you to refer back to the grading rubric which isnt clear either. Do not choose this professor. Extremely picky and does not give clear instructions. 0/10 recommend
Professor Horwitz is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. The class is easy if you read the book. There are only 7 modules, and very straightforward. Nothing is a surprise; the syllabus is very detailed, and everything was structured nicely. If you do the work, you will get an "A". Take this teacher!!!!
Professor Horowitz is great; she always responds to emails quickly and clears up any doubts. There are 7 proctored tests that check your understanding of the required readings in a good amount of detail, so just be ready for that. Other than that, it's really fun!
She is a good teacher and gives good examples! You really have to listen to her lessons in order understand , the homework is based on the textbook! Very few work just homework and quizzes about every 2 weeks.
I was so looking forward to this class. She just had you read and have a discussion among the students for this online class. I had questions about some items and months of emails went unanswered. I submitted a lengthy time-consuming assignment and didn't realize I missed one of the questions and she gave me a zero on the whole thing.
Take another professor she will have you write a huge APA paper and if you don't quote even though you have referenced article. She will accuse you of plagiarisms and threaten to report you. Go with another professor.Too much work and a tough grader.
Must do the readings 2 chapters each module. You get 2 practice exams then the real thing for each module. 2 discussions per module. Exams are worth 70% of the grade. Replies promptly to emails and is very caring. Will be taking her again next semester.
she threatens that you use ai on most of your papers and work even when you didn't use ai. she is a tough grader, i would not take this class again.
They have revamped this course. This course now has unit exams, weekly discussion posts, weekly very easy written assignment based off of research articles, and unit written assignments with questions that help you focus on exam material. Do all of your assignments and you should easily get an A.
Horrible professor, she threatens people about using AI when we aren't using AI and puts every assignment into Turnitin, thinking it is accurate.
She is a tough grader and suspects you of using a lot of AI and I wouldn't take her ever again just because she threatens to report you for using AI. Even if you do good and think you done well on an assignment it will end up being a D or C- or F even. It depends on the day and how she is feeling she will give you a bad or good grade.
She is not a good professor and grades really tough and if you write any paper or do any discussion she will say you plagarized when you didn't. Someone should really report this lady to a higher chair.
Tough grader. I wouldn't recommend taking this professor again, she is very mean and threats students that she is going to report them for plagarizing on papers, and assignments as well as exams. Stay away from her.
I do not recommend, she is a tough grader and is hard to get a hold of throughout the semester especially if you take her class online. She likes to threaten students about plagarism and using artificial intelligence on assignments. Take another professor!
Professor Horowitz does NOT give you constructive criticism. She will tell you to refer back to the grading rubric which isnt clear either. Do not choose this professor. Extremely picky and does not give clear instructions. 0/10 recommend
Extremely tough grader. 0/10 recommend, work is never good enough for her.
I do not recommend taking this class or this professor whatsoever. She is a tough grader and is very picky of what your assignments need to look like. She is never happy with your assignments and is likely to say you plagarized on your quoted work or citations.
0/10 recommend this professor because she gives horrible feedback and critcism and is too picky of a grader
too many assignments that she said i plagarized but never have i once plagarized, she uses Turnitin to detect AI and most of the time threatens to report for plagarism. do not take her she is scary and threatens students. tough grader and not very good at replying to emails.
0/10 recommend, tough grader and too picky
I do not recommend at all 0/10 this lady is not nice I don't even know how she is teaching
This class was online and I thought it was very hard because she is a tough grader and is a picky person. I wrote a well written paper and got an 87 but I think it deserved 100. She states that there is plagarism within many of assignments even when we cite.
I was so looking forward to this class. She just had you read and have a discussion among the students for this online class. I had questions about some items and months of emails went unanswered. I submitted an assignment and she gave me a zero for what she said was plagarism. RUN do no take her she is scary
In summary, my experience with this lady has been disappointing and stressful. The emphasis on threats over teaching, coupled with vague instructions and tough grading, creates an environment that is not supportive of student learning. I would caution any prospective students to think twice before enrolling in her classes.
Communication is another significant issue. Professor Horwitz takes an unreasonably long time to respond to emails and questions, which can be frustrating when clarification is needed. Her instructions for assignments lack clarity, leaving many of us confused about what is expected. This ambiguity only adds to the overwhelming nature of the work
Moreover, her grading style is excessively harsh. It seems that no matter how much effort I put into my assignments, they rarely receive the credit they deserve. This has led to a sense of discouragement among students, as we often feel like we are being set up to fail rather than encouraged to succeed.
I regret to share my experience with Professor [Name], as it has been far from positive. From the outset, her approach to teaching has felt more intimidating than inspiring. The classroom atmosphere is stifling, primarily due to her constant reminders about plagiarism, which often come across as threats rather than educational guidance.
While I understand the importance of academic integrity, the way she conveys this message creates an environment of fear rather than one conducive to learning.
She is scary
I only interacted with Rebecca online so I don't have much to say about her itself. But get ready to do quizzes, discussion boards (post and respond others), assignments, and tests. Tests are also recorded and she watches your screen. It is a lot of reading, things to do, and a lot to balance when you're also taking other difficult classes.
