Very very good professor, really cares about how students are doing, what they are learning. She's a tough professor, but her lectures are interesting, mostly because she's interesting and funny. You may not get that A you're wishing for but you'll enjoy the class as much as possible for an orgo c

A really nice professor who actually cares about the students wants them to get an A. Very approachable for help. Read the book for clarification on topics in her lectures, its suprisingly easy to read. Orgo is tough, so don't expect a good grade without the work.
Kissling is a great professor. She's clear and gives practice exams that mirror what the actual exams will be like. However, Orgo is not an easy course. If you want to do well then you have to put in effort yourself. Read the textbook chapters several times and do the practice problems and tests
I want to know who put her as hot. She's funny and quite possibly the best orgo professor at this university. She's not rude when you ask a question like Eisch and her tests are impossibly difficult.
Maybe I'm biased because I got an A, but Kissling is a very good organic chemistry professor. If you intensively read your textbook chapters a few times and do the practice tests she puts up, an A is well within your grasp. Clear lectures and gives hints as to what is going to tbe on examinations.
An AMAZING porfessor. She is very dedicated and very understandable. If you actually study her notes and do the practice tests it is not that hard to get a good grade. She is one of the best chemistry professors here. I highly recommend her.
Getting an A in any orgo class is not easy and this is no exception buts she wants us to do well and that really shows. She's very helpful and caring. Just study from her notes, do the practice tests and problems, refer to the text when unclear, and go to office hours for help- you'd do very well.
Top notch Orgo professor. The tests are very clear cute. If you have done, studied and understand what's on the practice exams, you should do very well on the real exams. The lecture notes are posted online but if you go to class she will stress what will be on the exams.
I thought her class was harder than Eisch's (but this is also a higher level course). Do your HW, don't miss ANY class, do her practice exams, and listen out for clues to other topics not covered on her practice exam that may show up on actual exam, and you'll do well. Not easy, but possible. Study!
She's very encouraged and always trying her best to help everyone pass the class. I begin to love chem because of her.
She is the best!!! I was not looking forward to taking organic chem but she made the class VERY enjoyable. In a class of 90 she tried to learn everyone's name. She really cares about you as an individual. :)
my favorite professor so far! she is a terrific person and instructor, she makes everything very clear and plays no games on her tests/quizzes. she knows everyone's name, and will move tests so that you have more time to learn the material. SO HELPFUL very highly suggested. plays ultimate!!
Now this is one professor who knows how to teach AND make sure you do well. She really cares about her students. Very understanding to everyone and very helpful. Makes you want to learn Orgo. I absolutely adore her. You will not regret taking her class. I'd take it over again just to have her teach.
She was excellant at teaching the class and very fun. She makes jokes that are sometimes funny but no matter what make you laugh. More than anything though, the knowledge you aquire from her teaching style and obvious love of it is wonderful!! =)
Although I think chemistry is probably the most boring and dry science that exists, Dr. Kissling's love for Orgo has a way of rubbing off on you. In a school that more often than not makes you feel like a number she takes the time to get to know her students and cares a great deal about your success
my favorite professor so far in bing! kissling makes orgo really fun and easy to understand. she really goes out of her way to help students out and makes sure they do well. the tests are easy and she curves the grades a lot.
Professor Kissling is the best! She genuinely cares about her students and the subject she's teaching. She is an EXCELLENT professor! If you plan on taking organic chemistry, it's a no-brainer, take it with Professor Kissling =)
Dr. Kissling is one of the best professors I have ever had, especially for chem. She is very understanding and actualy cares about her students, unlike that b*tch Bane. Now SHE was a dumb@$$. But kissling is always willing to help you out and stay late and miss meetings just so you understand the material. She is just awesome! Her and Lotempio
Dr. Kissling is absolutely amazing. If you are going to take organic chemistry make sure you take it with her. No professor can parallel her way of teaching. She is so enthusiastic it is amazing. The material is hard, but she finds a way to make is less hard. Do your work, study her notes and practice tests, go to her for help if you need it.
Ok, all this hype about Kissling is simply inaccurate. The woman is a nut case. Sure shes enthusiastic about what she does, but does that mean she's a good teacher? NO! She can not transcend from one topic to the other smoothly, and is very scattered brain. The material is a new and more difficult than orgo 1. Bane was the woman.
Over-hyped, doesnt really convey much pertinant information. Annoying quizzes and long tests. Quite simply- She's no Bane
Definitely disorganized and way to hyper and squeeky. However, she does care about her students and will go out of her way to help you. Have to applaude her for her genuine efforts
Yeah.. her first test was impossible. She just reads off of the powerpoint slides and lecture is just a joke. She expects you to know alot of stuff that she doesn't really clarify.
I failed o-chem I, retook it, and got a C+. Obviously, I'm a poor chemistry student (at best) and I have an A- in Kissling's class. Granted, the first test was way too long but she gave everyone a 25% curve to compensate. Kissling goes out of her way to help her students and is EXTREMELY helpful if you go to her office hours.
Overrated! Bane was definately better.
She is a nice professor, willing to help students, hyper in class, however cant explain things clearly. lack of organization, uses over 10 pg of drawing per lecture. she does tell u what u should expect on the exams, however her exams are far harder than the examples she give in class. however, if u do put in efforts, u will get a good grade
She was absolutely attrocious. Worst teacher I have ever had...poor ability to teach, very boring, read off of powerpoints, made terrible jokes, when asked for help did not.
Not as structured as Bane but caring and helpful. If you have a problem she is extremely approachable. The tests are LONG (not so much hard) but the curve is also HUGE (twice we had ~25 point curve). She is very fair; unfortunately, most students are not great at Organic. She teaches concepts very well, people just try to memorize instead of learn.
DO NOT MEMORIZE, LEARN THE CONCEPTS
Teaches as though we already know the concepts. Exams are much harder than the material from class and homeworks. Seems disorganized and not confident in her own ability to teach. When I visited her for office hours with a question about a basic concept she was a bit condescending.
Great professor and great person. If you can not understand the concepts after attending her class and working through assigned problems you should choose a new direction in life. Tests are not merely repetition but actually ask you to apply what you have learned. Greatly sparked my interest in organic chemistry!
She is nice and sometimes talks funny things in class. She seems intelligent and knows her stuff well. Tests are a bit hard, but there is a huge curve!!!!
Even though I only attended about three of her lectures...she explained things very well. You dont even have to go to class to get an A. Just read the book and do some practice problems and her curve will take care of the rest. About 1/7th of the class got an A. enough said.
Dr. Kissling epitomizes the definition of a successful professor! She is a brilliant woman! She explains things VERY well and anyone can grasp orgo as long as they have genuine interest and a zest for learning! I have learned the MOST I have ever learned bc she tests your application, NOT MEMORIZATION! Reasonable grader, 5 stars! BEST PROF FOR ORGO
exams are fair
Excellent professor. Will make you apply your knowledge and think critically instead of just memorizing. You will learn a lot from this class
well as long as you don't have a husband in tow she's excellent
Explains things well, exams are pretty fair except sometimes the TAs who graded the exams are pretty f up. Going to her lectures is optional but it does help u know the stuff better, I go to the lectures and then read the book several days before the exams, try to relate stuffs even when they werent meant to be put together for u to get the notion.
She's a very personable quirky person. Exams are fair, but some questions I have no idea where they came from...Everything comes mostly from the text book. Don't just memorize the mechanisms and reactions, she actually makes you apply them to problems. So do the problems in the book and keep up. If you fall behind in the reading, your screwed.
Great professor teaching really difficult material. It's a fast-paced class but a fair curve most of the time to compensate for tricky tests. Would defenitely recommend!
She does care about her students however quite scatter brained. Be prepared to finish the slides at a fast pace regardless of how many there are. Knows the material but I think needs to empathize more with the students. Fair exams.
She is easily one of the greatest teachers ever. Her tests are hard but fair. I love her class and try my hardest to attend. She is so awesome i am going to be a uta next semester.
Compared to Organic I, this is class is quite faster-paced and covers more information (I think). But dedicate time to reading and understanding the book and going to office hrs if necessary are strongly encouraged. She tells you exactly what materials are on the exams with practice questions. Can't be anymore helpful upper-level chem professors!!
She's pretty awesome, and always wants her students to do well. During finals she holds extra office hours which can be super helpful
Dr. Kissling is a genuinely nice person with a lot of concern about how her students learn material. She also wears some pretty crazy outfits. This class is obviously very hard and you need to put alot of work into it, but Dr. Kissling is definitely a fine professor. I would recommend taking this course with her any day.
The best teacher in Bing! She truly cares about her students, very fair.
By far, one of the most concerned professors in Binghamton. Always willing to help out her students and hold office hours before tests. She is very patient and O-Chem wouldn't be the same without her. If you come in dreading taking O-Chem, make sure she's your professor and you will do well! This guy underneath is a bitter person who prob failed!
Down-to-earth, realistic, approachable. Wants students to succeed, helpful in office hours. Will curve tests if necessary. Scatter-brained at times, funny in that professor way. Notes can be vague, as well as lecture. Discussion sheets are helpful for test studying. Best 2 of 3 tests counted. Study hard for each test and you'll do well.
This professor works twice as hard as her students to get them to learn. A true professor.
She is such an AWESOME professor. She makes Organic Chemistry seem so easy and easy to comprehend. Just work hard and you'll be fine. She makes jokes that are a little weird at times. LOL Overall, one of the best teachers at binghamton. She really cares that her students learn the material and do well. btw, the curves for exams are nice. :)
She is the most annoying professor to ever teach at Binghamton. I'd rather cut out my tongue then suffer through a second round of orgo with her. The exam are totally unfair and don't test at all what she gives you in lecture. I don't even care that I got a C in her class, I'm just glad she can't put suicidal thoughts in my head anymore.
The person who commented below obviously didn't do the work, or should choose another major. Dr. Kissling is a treasure of Binghamton University, and is a true educator in every sense of the word. I only wish all the professors here had as much dedication to seeing their students succeed as she does.
Dr.Kissling is one of the most helpful teachers I have had so far. Although she may teach a little fast she makes up for it with the practice tests(just like the actual one) that she creates and the countless review sessions spent helping students. She also tries to make the class fun and is full of energy.
Good prof, but hard class. She does her best to try to explain hard concepts and curves the tests. DON'T LET THE FACT THAT SHE CURVES FOOL YOU. If you don't study you'll fail, plain and simple. Do the work, go to office hours if you still don't get it, and you will do fine.
the BEST science Professor you will ever have during your 4 years of undergraduate. She is extremely helpful by having numerous office hours and review secessions, doing here practice tests and suggested problems. Very energetic although she gets 3 hours of sleep a day(crazy!) do work and you will get an A
After one and a half semesters with her, I can't stand her. I got an A- with plenty of studying and she does have tons of office hours and practice material, but she is so annoying and useless in the actual lecture. TEACH dont dance or talk about nonsense!
You will need to put in a lot of extra time and effort in this course in order to do well. With that said, Dr K is hilarious and a great and caring professor. She genuine cares, and has become a mentor to me in the year that I've known her. Dr K is amazing. Orgo I+II are tough, but you'll come away from them with a lot.
how to get an A in Organic Chemistry: 1) know what was taught in lecture 2)read and do practice problems everyday 3)definately go to her office hours and do more problems(identical on the exam) 4)take the exam after doing steps 1-3. Voila, that's how you get an A in Organic. Worked for me. Its not hard, just takes time.
Dr. K is a great, dedicated teacher! She has office hours all the time and is always willing to (re)explain concepts. You definitely need to come to class to do well. You need to book for orgo 1 and for the first test for orgo 2, but that's about it. Come to class, write and rewrite all the mechanisms and do all the practice materials she sends you
I love Dr. K, she's awesome. If you want an A, make going to office hours part of your schedule. Very clear, and very helpful. I'll miss having her.
Not impressed. She is unorganized, wastes time, doesn't teach, shows up to class 20min late, and then blames students when the entire class does poorly on tests. Lots of mistakes are made grading and adding up pts on tests, CHECK EVERY GRADE. I don't understand the hype. I will be happy to never see her face again.
Although Dr. Kissling is unorganized and may be cranky sometimes, she is still a great professor. She cares about student's grades and hosts many review sessions so that her students can do well. I'd take her for Organic Chem over any of the other teachers.
Dr. Kissling starts out every semester strong, but as time goes by she becomes stressed and disorganized. Her test graders are extremely inconsistent, check every exam to get points back. She is a nice person, knows her stuff and is available to help outside class. Not too difficult, but she is very eccentric.
This is a difficult class. Dr.K is a really likable person, but I agree with what others have said- she does get disorganized and tends to blame students for poor grades. A class average of 50% is at least partly on the professor. Work hard, go to office hours, take good notes and do practice problems. An A is doable but it takes effort.
I agree she is a very nice professor but it's still very annoying class. She posts every stuff on the BD day by day. I got a ton of email from the class. It's not easy to get an A grade since you have to make a stupid group work for whole semester.
This teacher is very dope!! funny yet serious with her work. you have to put effort in her class and do not put her class notes to study some other day, unless you want to have a very hard time catching up! oh yeah her office hours are more precious than gold. go to them!!
Best teacher ever. Very clear notes, very eccentric personality. She goes above and beyond to help her students and you can tell she really loves what she does. GO TO OFFICE HOURS.
She is the most disorganized teacher I've ever had. Sure, she is very helpful outside of class but actual lecture is useless. She sends a ton of review material and answers the day before the test (that's real helpful) and I found her tests to be exactly like her...completely scatterbrained, on one test I got like thirty points back. Ridiculous.
Dr. K is the most unorganized professor ever. Her class notes are extremely scattered- she will just start drawing things and for you to know what it is. She doesn't like the textbook at all. The only reason to go to class is for iClicker points. She tells us outright that we will get lower grades than the afternoon class. Thanks for the confidence
I made the mistake of never going to office hours. I am currently failing. Don't be like me! GO TO OFFICE HOURS AND YOU'LL BE FINE!
Dr. K really knows her stuff, and will make sure that you understand the stuff, most of the time. Very loopy, and her office hours are very helpful. It just sucks if they overlap with other classes and work, like it did for me. Might be a really nice woman one day, and then a psycho angry woman the next.
Incredibly moody at times, but overall, a decent professor. She actually cares about her students, but if you don't work very hard throughout the semester, you'll do very poorly.
Dr. K is cool. I love her...but she can be very confusing at times. If you're good at reading textbooks, then lecture is a WASTE of time. If you're not, then "God Bless your SOUL" as she always says. Definitely go to OFFICE HOURS, they DEFINE your chances at getting an A for the class....
Dr K is awesome. Going to her office hours are really helpful, and she has alot of them. Her tests are fair and she tells you what she's gonna test you on. This class is hard, but you can do well if you just do what she says.
Overall a pretty reasonable class. Go to lectures and USE THE TEXTBOOK and everything will fall into place. All class notes can be found in the text so if you're having difficulty with a concept check it out or go to one of her many office hours for practice. Does adjust grades a little at the end of each semester!!!
Dont call her Dr. Kissling, she hates that. Dr. K is one of a kind, she makes learning organic chemistry a lot of fun. To the people that complain about her class, you know you didn't try hard enough. She is straight forward and goes out of her way to make sure her students do well. Awesome teacher.
Dr. K is a geunine professor who wants her students to do well. There are countless office hours where she goes over the material to make it clearer. She gives a lot of practice, and while she may be a bit disorganized at times, she gives practice that mirrors her exams. Tests are fair, if you do the work and go to office hours.
Dr. K is amazing!! Having heard such horrible things about organic chem in general I was terrified! But Dr. K is great! She makes learning very easy, she's very clear, and she really wants everyone to do well! GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. use the book, and enjoy her sarcastic sense of humor. Don't get on her bad side!
ambiguous lectures, mood swings, cryptic writing, unfair tests, random power-complexes, sassing, and discrimination against premed kids, giving out retarded answer keys, assigning hw late, habitually starting class 20 minutes late only to go on about her iphone for another 15 and then rush though material giving half-assed explanations = kissling
I just have no idea about why she never reply my email.
I liked dr kissling a lot. very fair, cares about students, very talented and helpful professor. yea she might be condescending at times when you ask a question, but overall she teaches great, has plenty office hours, wants you to do well, and is just plain awesome. im going to miss her a lot :((
Has an ego problem and is impossible to talk to.
Chances are if you take orgo, you'll have Kissling no matter what. That said, she is actually an awesome professor. Yeah she's really smart, but she also truly wants her students to do well...which is why she holds 8 "office hours" a week, which are actually more like regular lectures. If you put the work in and use her resources, you can do well
Great professor. Presents it clearly and tests fairly. Practice practice practice as much as you can. Not a hard class if you strive to understand rather then memorize. She wants you to do well and is always offering help and office hours. USE IT. Got an A but worked constantly for it.
Dr. K is great, ignore when she gets moody- not personal. She truly wants to help you. Got amazing grades in Orgo 1 and 2. How to succeed: 1) OFFICE HOURS AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE, 2) re-do the office hours problems constantly, 3) get old exams for practice, 4) understand things CONCEPTUALLY not just how but WHY, 5) free ciw tutoring if have time
Dr. K is an awesome professor !! She really cares about her students and is extremely helpful. She is a very fair grader and is very approchable ! Took her for Orgo 1 and 2 and she's great ! I would def recommend her to anyone who is willing to pay attention and put in the effort !
A wonderful professor! Extremely helpful and dedicated! She really cares about her students and always try to motivate them in some ways. She is also easy on grading, giving multiple extra credit chances. Highly recommended!
DO NOT FALL BEHIND IN THIS CLASS. Attend lectures and take good notes, read every chapter in the txtbook, and go to office hours when u get the chance. You don't need to go to every single one she has, I went to about 2 before every test and did well. SO HARD TO GET AN A, but very achievable to get an A-. I got an A- in both and will TA next yr
Everyone who says Dr.K sucks has serious problems. By far the best professor I have ever had. Dr.K genuinely cares about her students - a rarity in the science departments at a research university. She goes way out of her way to help you out as long as she see that you care. I wish Dr.K read her reviews, to know she is the best.
DO NOT TAKE ORGO! It is really the worst class I have ever taken, It is not like 107/108 where the harder you work the better grade you get. This is a class where smart kids fail. the avg on the last test was 53. we got no curve. if people tell you that is is easier that 107/108- wrong. The quizzes are easier but the homework takes 10x as long.
Dr.K is awesome. You love her or hate her its just how it is. If you love her great, if not just follow this. Go to class, take notes, review notes and do practice problems before the tests. At the end of the year take advantage of the extra credit assignments and days. Also, she has 8 extra helps a week. She is cool, lived in hawaii and lots more!
Dr. K is a fantastic professor! I was really scared coming into this class but have found her to be a very dedicated professor. Make sure to pay attention in lecture because that is what she tests on. Overall a great professor and I definitely recommend.
class is very manageable if you study correctly for tests, i mainly went over mechanisms and reactions over and over before tests and got an A pretty easily. If you have trouble office hours and kahn academy are very helpful
Orgo is hard. There's no way around it. Kissling seems like a nice enough person, and was an engaging lecturer, but she was hard to approach. If she didn't like your questions she would let you know, and in front of everyone. Despite that and being a bit scattered, she does care about her students (the ones regularly at office hours at least)
Dr. K is an excellent professor! She genuinely cares about how her students perform and is always willing to help (8+ office hours a week). Quizzes are easy. Tests are very manageable. Keep up with the readings and attend class regularly and you'll do fine. Everything you need to know is in the lecture. She's definitely a must-have professor!
Organic Chemistry is VERY HARD. Dr. Kissling is an incredibly nice and optimistic lady, but she does not deliver the material clearly enough to understand it just from her lectures. The only way to survive in this class is to study from the textbook and go to tutoring. This class is a struggle.
Orgo is a challenging subject & I would say she teaches it well. The grad TAs always teach one chapter & they're pretty awful. I would definitely go to her office hours. She wants students to do well which results in basically giving away points (not a bad thing) - all her tests are written out, so you can't get away with any multiple choice
Wonderful professor!!!
Her class is challenging, specifically the exams. You must study diligently and regularly in order to do well. Attending lectures helps and try to study the material before the lectures. She provides various hours to help. Regardless, her class requires a lot of work to do well.
Dr. K is something unique. As a person she is great, as an instructor, not so much. The tests are very fair, and her grading is very lenient, but her lectures are a mess. Her general style makes her difficult to follow, and don't get me started on her texting breaks in class. As far as orgo goes, she's a pretty easy A if you put in the study time.
I absolutely love this woman. I've never seen a professor genuinely care so deeply about her students. Her students are her world. She saw my name once on a piece of paper and never forgot it. She is an effective teacher if you read the book before class. She makes getting an A very attainable if you put in the work. I wish she taught more classes.
Dr.K is a great teacher, everything she goes over in class is literally all of the concepts you will need for the exams anything else is just extra. With multiple office hours a week and all of the extra practice exams/all of the extra small reaction problems she makes, studying for her exams are very doable. and a good grade is achievable
Dr. K is an asset to Binghamton's chemistry department. She truly cares about her students and makes taking organic chemistry bearable. She has a ton of office hours and really tries to get you to know the material. Tests can be tough, but if you study a lot for them, you'll be fine.
Organic Chem, for me wasn't too tough, However! that is because i read the textbook before every exam and also went to turtring the school offers. I don't like her office hours AT ALL, she can be rude at times, and it's not worth it half the time. Tutoring through Tutor trac saved my life. Also the review sessions!Got an A on all the exams so far.
Kissling definitely cares about her students but she's a pretty unorganized lecturer. Her office hours are helpful and her tests are relatively straightforward but difficult. Make sure you know every reaction mechanism exactly. You'll probably need to do a lot to teach yourself the material outside of class because she's not an in-depth lecturer.
Professor Kissling's lectures aren't very structured at all. Each lecture she basically draws molecules on 50 sheets of paper and projects it onto the screen. I never have any idea where she's going with things. She also gets angry if you ask questions sometimes.
orgo was hard but i think she is fair in what she puts on the exams. She only puts on the exams what she talks about and if you take good notes, as in not only the drawing but the concepts she talks about, it will be bearable.
Kissling really cares about her students, and wants you to succeed. That does not mean she will not make the class tough; Orgo is a tough concept and requires a lot of focus. If you listen to her and try to seek aid when you can you will do well. The exams she gives are very similar to her lectures.
Truly one of the top 3 teachers I've had in my life. Dr. K goes to unbelievable lengths to help her students succeed. Plenty of people complain about her, but in my experience, they are the people that refuse to work hard. If you work hard, pay attention in her lectures, and go to her office hours, you will find orgo manageable. Dr. K is the best!
The tests are hard, but if you do practice problems and seek extra help you will pass. There are 6 easy group quizzes and 3 hard individual quizzes. Also, there is homework, but it can be useful. Read everyday, do problems, and do not be afraid to seek extra help. Do that and you'll be ok. Dr. Kissling can be a bit moody, but is normally helpful.
Dr. K is one of the best professors I have had in Binghamton. To pass her course, all you need to do is do what is expected and study off of her Learning Objectives. She also holds several office hours to help students. She is probably the most helpful in office hours and she has the best stories
Kissling is my favorite. She's so down to earth, and I know I would have done horribly in orgo if she wasn't teaching it. There isn't a class where I'm not laughing. She offers SO much help - its hard to fail. She provides learning objectives for tests, several office hours, and is very approachable. If you need to take orgo, do not fear.
Dr. K is easily one of the best professors at Binghamton University! I could not imagine taking organic chemistry with anyone else. The material is challenging, but she does everything that she can to help students do well. Despite the large class size, Dr. K truly does care about her students. If you are willing to put in the effort, an A is yours
Amazing professor! Holds 8 hours of office hours per week, plus review sessions before tests. If you study, go to office hours, and attend tutoring sessions, you will do well in the course. The tests are extremely fair!
Dr. Kissling is one of the brightest professors in her field. Her love for organic chemistry is evident in her lectures. Go to office hours!
She does organic chem part one and two. She is a sweetheart. She cares about the students and their success. She is also open to recommendation letters. She tries her best to be as helpful as possible when explaining new difficult topics. She will be even more willing to help you if your face is familiar with her. Study, those mechanisms!!
Its hard
Organic Chemistry is a very difficult course that requires a practice, studying, and tutoring sessions. If you stay on top of all of the lectures and chapters you can do well. Office Hours are a MUST if you want to do well. Kissling is a bit sassy but she is a very good professor that puts our a lot of practice so the students succeed.
I love kissing! You get out of this class what you put into it. She holds so many office hours and really tries to answer all of your questions. She doesn't mind explaining things over and over until you understand it. She is really funny and very approachable. It is a very tough class but I really enjoyed taking it with her.
She draws a lot of pictures of molecules, so be ready for those. Funny lady, I'd take the class again.
She will always be there for help, use the opportunity
Dr. K is really helpful and available for students, but she makes it hard to ask a question. She tends to make her students feel stupid for not understanding the material, and doesn't seem to understand that not everyone is good at organic chemistry. The tests are really difficult and specific. She is pretty funny though, and I learned a lot
Dr. K is an amazing professor for this seminar. She is very knowledgable about chemistry which relates very well into the study of Plastics, which is the focus of the course. She is hilarious and so understanding if you take the time to speak with her. Scholars consider yourself lucky if you get Kissing for SCHL127/280, her classes fill up quick!
Dr. K is a great, knowledgable prof. She makes students work hard and really understand the material. Go to office hours and never miss class. Personally, orgo 2 was harder than orgo 1, but that's usually not the case. Study hard and start studying well before the night before the exam. Tough class, good professor. Beware of her sassiness!
Dr K is great! Tends to go off topic in lecture but go to her office hours, they are super helpful! You will have to put a lot of work into this class but Dr K holds multiple office hours during the week and is always willing to help
I love Dr. Kissling. She is so helpful and really knows her stuff. She's a little disorganized, but going to office hours and asking her questions after lecture are the best thing you can do. Tests are totally doable as well as quizzes. Would 100% take another class with her.
The sweetest professor on campus; just a universal grandmother. Unfortunately, orgo is tough, and she can ramble a bit. Tests are killer, but besides that, the discussions, homework, quizzes, etc. are pretty much free points if you just do them on time. Gives a decent amount of extra credit, and her only videos help too. Orgo's hard, but she's nice
Makes class interesting with her jokes and sense of humor. Overall a hard class but she does a great job explaining the subject matter
Lies about what is going to be on the test every time so unless you are great at chem you are screwed. Reads off slides and comes to class disorganized. Test are a nightmare; tricky+long. You could know the chapter well and still fail badly. Also don't challenge her about your grade or she will make you regret it. If you are pre med, sorry...
She's nice but terribly disorganized for her lecture which makes the materials harder. Bad explanation for materials as well
I'm surprised that Dr. K has this high of a score on here. BY FAR the worst professor I've ever had- the first test was so disorganized and was the worst testing experience I've ever had. She's such a smart lady but her communication is off, and her office hours do not help- Dr. Tong's are much more helpful.
Dr. K is one of the best professors I've ever had. People tend to dislike her because her class is difficult, but with a lecture of 300+ people, she can't slow down and repeat herself 100x so everyone can get it. however, if you go to office hours, she is an amazing help! made me really love organic chem!
Her lectures are beyond useless. I recommend going to Dr. Tong's lectures and doing a lot of independent practice. Even though Dr. Tong is a far better lecturer than Dr. Kissling, practice is key for organic chemistry. Dr. Kissling is also often rude and belittling during office hours, often making fun of students when they don't know something.
Dr. Kissling is very smart and makes herself available to help students all the time, which is very admirable. However, I have only given her a 3 because she can be very passive aggressive and rude on occasion, either ridiculing students for not knowing something, or just snapping if something asks her a question when she's in a bad mood...
She is a horrible professor. I always liked my chemistry andi did well in both 107 and 108 by getting B+ and A. This class is useless.
She's super nice, explains difficult concepts well and has the best course structure in the department of chemistry. Organic Chemistry is difficult. Studying regularly is mandatory for this course, Kissling loads the blackboard with practice problems and makes herself really accessible with tons of office hours. Make use of her for an A. 10/10 prof
Kissling is not the worst professor I've ever had but she really is not all that great at lecturing. Can be rude at times but she is also constantly cracking jokes to make the class slightly more bearable. Your grade is mainly based off tests but you do get one drop which is a lifesaver.
Condescending, unclear, and lies to you about what is going to be on the exams every time. She posts learning objectives for every exam and says to study that heavily but then will have many questions not detailed in the objectives. Further, the final was not challenging but Dr Tong and Dr K were very misleading on what the format was to be like.
Dr. K is a great professor, she can give a good laugh and make you appreciate life. She can be confusing sometimes when trying to explain a topic, but she is always willing to answer a question or help you understand better. BE WARNED she will call you out if you address a professor by their last name instead of DOCTOR whoever, it's her pet peeve.
While I have no doubts that Dr. K is incredibly knowledgeable about Organic Chem, her lecture style was not my favorite. I found myself very distracted by her jumping around and felt that she breezed through topics w/o explaining them well. At the same time, she is incredibly kind and supportive, and I appreciated her comments about managing stress
Dr. Kissling can be very disorganized in lecture however, I found her to be extremely helpful during her office hours. My advice is to write down everything in class, and go to office hours. For me, things usually started to make sense when she could explain it one on one. Tests are incredibly difficult I usually started studying 2 weeks in advance
Organic Chem is tough for everybody. Attend her lectures, write down what she says WONT be on the test. Thoroughly understand everything else. Inked slides are a bit vague sometimes, use textbook. She teaches rather well, goes off on tangents hut as far as learning organic chem goes there are very few across universities better than her. Good luck.
Dr. Kissling is an extremely intelligent professor who cares about this class. However, this did not translate into the communication on the tests. These tests were not comparable to organic chemistry 1, especially since she lied about what would be on the exams. Her office hours were okay- i found them to be somewhat distracting instead of helpful
Like everyone is saying, chem 231 and 332 are hard classes with a lot of material to cover so she can't slow down and go over everything during lectures. I would say to go to office hours with questions and try to get to know her there because she was always willing to help me with the topics and whatever.
Rebecca Kissling is one of the smartest women I've ever met in my life and her passion for organic chemistry translates directly into her teaching. She hosts countless office hours and is readily available to meet with students by appointment, so it's evident that she really does care about her students. Also, during lecture she makes great jokes.
Really sweet and cares about the students/class. She understands the material is difficult and tries to make it easier. She is a bit chaotic and all over the place but at the end of the day the lectures are more interesting. Her office hours are incredibly useful but be prepared to put a lot of extra time into the class.
Orgo is a difficult topic. Kissling knows her stuff, its just she really cant teach it clearly. She had a u quite teaching style which is only good for a few students. If you need. oren in-depth to learn, Go to office hours and tutoring. She reminds me of a sweet grandma, but I hate her as a professor. Try getting Tong, youll be better off.
Kissling, although very endearing, makes the class as hard as possible. Exams are very difficult (in addition to being a difficult topic). She preaches that the top 10% scorers on entrance exams (MCAT, etc) will get a B-. Only 8-10% of students get an A/A- to put the difficulty in perspective. Lots of cushion points to help you scrape by and pass.
Dr. Rebecca Kissling is so kind, smart, and overall knowledgable (not just in terms of orgo), but her actual teaching skills are less than stellar. Also, the exams are so disorganized, I feel like I lost points sometimes simply because I couldn't understand what was being asked of me.
I feel like Kissling gets a lot less credit than she deserves. Orgo admittedly is a hard topic, but she teaches it well. If you don't put in the time and effort, you won't get the grade you want. 100% recommend going to office hours.
Orgo is as hard as everyone says it is. For Orgo 1, treat the Klein book like your bible and you should be golden. Orgo 2 is a lot harder as the Klein book becomes useless. Read the textbook, go to office hours, and study hard. Grade cut-offs are huge: A 94, A- 89, B+ 84, B 79 and so on. Extremely hard classes, but not hard to do well.
She was a great teacher and she made this class with very little content a lot of fun.
Orgo 1 was pretty rough. Everybody around me was failing after Test 1. Its a hard subject and she breezes by most of the mechanisms. Make sure to use the TAs and go to their sessions of the weekend. Sign up for UTS Tutoring services. Its that bad. But its better than gen chem. Kissling makes weird jokes however is very helpful in office hours.
Dr. Kissling cares very deeply about your success both as a student and as a person. Her videos and office hours are very helpful for exams. I recommend going and getting to know her -- she will learn your name and look out for you! The course is challenging but manageable. Read the textbook and do the practice problems she provides/in the text!
A very knowledgeable professor who is not only willing to help with in-class material, but other chemistry or chemistry degree related things as well. Very easy to talk to if you have concerns or questions, and is always willing to answer when available. You'll definitely want to do all of the work provided for a good grade as her subjects are hard
Orgo is extremely difficult for most of us, we get that. Dr. Kissling is not, in my opinion & in my experience with her, remotely considerate of that fact. She is so rude and condescending in her office hours, her only goal is to make the student look dumb. She is an awful instructor and a pretty bad person for how she makes students feel
Professor Kissling is a very sweet woman and knows her stuff. Orgo 2 is a tough class and you definitely need to set a decent amount of time to studying. I took the class spring 2020 and preferred the online class more. Instead of 3 exams and one drop, we took 6 assessments. Each assessment was specific and I did so much better in the class.
Orgo is a hard topic to teach - especially online during a pandemic. Shes very caring but her office hours werent that helpful- tongs is better. Shes a very sweet woman who obviously knows her stuff very well, just show some effort and know what youre talking about and shell like you. She hates dumb questions. Orgo 2 is way better than Orgo 1.
Orgo is the hardest class I have EVER taken. Kissing is a decent professor, but definitely go to tongs lectures as he is much much better at explaining concepts. Tests are very difficult, but do all the homeworks and pick a good discussion group and hope for the best.
Professor Kissling is very knowledgeable, but can be better at teaching. She teaches very quickly, which often feels rushed. Her analogies in class are entertaining but don't usually sink in since she will use an example once and not more. Between the two professors, I liked Tong's lectures more because he took more time explaining and answering.
I took Chem 231 this summer. As expected, the class was very hard but I feel as though Dr. Kissling's recorded videos were extremely detailed and informative. She made herself extremely available for office hours and has a knack for providing real world examples like relating the Coriolis Effect to Chirality. I would recommend her class to anyone.
She's a very sweet person. However, she is not good at teaching. She is extremely easy to access through office hours and via email. I emailed her a couple of times about orgo problems. She responded very fast and detailed. The final exam had a term that was never mentioned in her lectures. You'll be able to boost your grade through group work!
Professor Kissling might be one of the worst science professors Ive had. She claims to want the best for her students but is very judgmental when asking questions. Most students were scared to ask during class or during office hours because she would reply sarcastically or make you feel dumb. Do not recommend her!
Professor Kissling was one of the toughest professors I have ever had. She always talks about how she is looking out for her students but never answers questions she thinks are stupid and doesn't email back. She does not communicate organic chemistry well to the class. Make sure you pay attention and be prepared to do a lot of studying.
She is a nice and caring person overall, but she has not transitioned into online learning properly. She often makes mistakes when addressing quizzes and discussion activities. Also, she talks so much, yet it feels like she is going so fast. Her sections were always half a lecture behind. Had to watch the other's professor's prerecorded videos.
Her lecture is good that you can actually learn during the lecture, but it will be better if you read the textbook before class. Her office hours are fair, I prefer Turnpenny, but hers is also very helpful. Be ready to spend time studying, at least 9hrs per week. Be active at CGE, your teammates are willing to succeed together.
I took Professor Kissling's class for the fall of 2020 as my freshman year. It's a lot of work and requires self-study, using the textbook and outside sources. The content is cumulative, so if you don't understand a concept, it's vital for you to ask any questions asap before you get bombarded with more content. There's no room for slack.
Watch her videos, not her lectures. They were much more helpful. Cannot go back to other questions on exams. That made tests difficult. Homework assignments and group quizzes saved my grade. Must study hard if you want to do okay on exams. Watch the Organic Chemistry Tutor on youtube for practice problems. Read textbook, but it is kinda confusing.
Initially, Professor Kissling seemed like the nicest person ever. But underneath this facade was a mean and completely unsympathetic tyrant who does not allow students to ask any questions without making you feel extremely dumb and worthless. Take her class if your okay with never understanding the material and having to teach yourself everything!!
I've had her 2 semesters in a row, online. She can be a harsh sometimes when answering questions, but she is thorough and explains them well. She also gives more than enough practice problems and study material in order to prepare for exams. Homework, discussion, and attendance points boost your grades. Make sure you read the TB and study a lot!!
taken Prof. Kissling both semesters of orgo and she has consistently gotten less caring for her students each test. Weekly discussions are inefficient and ineffective and her online lecturing style makes lectures almost impossible to learn from live. Class is much better suited for async. doesn't seem like she wants students to succeed with tests
This class is very difficult. Dr. Kissling is very nice and she cares about her students and their well-being but I did not find her teaching style helpful for me. You need to put in a lot of work outside of class to do well.
Orgo in general is a hard course regardless of what professor you have. Kissling will clearly explain concepts and go over things multiple times to make sure you understand. You do need to do a lot of work outside of class if you want to do good. Your grade in both classes is predominantly determined by the exams of which she drops one :)
Orgo is an extremely difficult course in general. However, Dr Kissling is very disorganized and doesn't really teach adequately. She moves fairly fast without any sort of review. She also sometimes has attitude when you ask her a question. Honestly, didn't learn anything in this class, only that I hate orgo with a passion.
Teaching style makes it impossible to learn because she goes so fast and she is also very disorganized. She made the exams super hard and asked things beyond the scope of class. She can also be very rude if you ask her questions in office hours unless you kiss up to her and she can make you feel dumb. I learned orgo from youtube videos not her.
The common theme of these reviews is that organic chemistry takes a lot of outside work. Kissling tries to cover as much material in class because going in depth would impossible to cover every topic. If you ask questions, she'll gladly explain topics in depth. If you are diligent and stay on top of the work, you'll have no problem in the class.
Orgo in itself is a hard subject, but Kissling's teaching style did not make it any easier. She bulldozes through material with little to no review, and I personally did not find rewatching her lectures or reading the textbook helpful. I would recommend getting a tutor and buying the orgo as a second language book, as you have to teach yourself.
Professor Kissling makes attempts to be fair with a rigid grade structure. small extra credit and jokes during class however, she often comes off as rude, belligerent, and condescending. Simple questions are not well received and her politeness often expires as soon as questions start. Her lecture style is random, disorganized and hard to follow.
The TA portion of this class is pretty straightforward. Prof. Kissling provides good feedback for the discussions and is approachable if you have any questions.
I took orgo 1 and 2 over the summer with kissling. The class is super hard but she's a great professor. She has a million office hours and answers emails very quickly. Definitely a lot of work but the practice is needed for this class. She wants to get to know you and see you succeed. Very kind lady i would recommend
Avoid anything w/ Prof Kissling. Orgo is obviously a difficult class and she was adequate at teaching it. However, she claims to care about students but is sarcastic, condescending & belittling when any questions were asked. She makes her students feel like a burden. She wants to exercise her own knowledge, not actually help others learn. Heinous.
I understand the topic was dense however I genuinely found her lectures useless as did most of my peers. The way she chooses to explain topics is incredibly confusing and most people essentially taught themselves using online resources. Exams always had errors embedded within that hindered many peoples performance.
Seems like she's in over her head, which, in the context of orgo chem being difficult on its own, made for a very very difficult semester. Lectures are not helpful; you're better off just exclusively studying the textbook and praying the practice tests are anything like the actual exams. Good luck, orgo soldiers. She will not help you pass
Dr. K deserves more credit for making the orgo curriculum here bearable. If you fail all the exams you can still pass the class. She really does her best to help us survive orgo, but she can be condescending and rude. Overall, she is not a bad professor at all, she just seems stressed and all over the place. She is great in office hours
Kissling was great! She is really nice and she cares about her students, oftentimes giving advice for chemistry as she is also an orgo chem prof. Overall, tries to make the class as enjoyable as possible and tries to keep you engaged through many class activities.
Lectures are so incredibly important in order to understand the material. When you go to lectures, Kissling is a fairly solid professor, but sometimes she has too much on her plate and it shows. She does, however, genuinely care about the student's wellbeing
Dr. Kissling made an already joke of a class actually interesting. She always offered us advice on future chem courses (i.e Orgo) we would be taking and offered input on gen chem. Dr. Kissling cares about her students and that is readily shown.
Everyone underestimates Dr. Kissling and thinks she's terrible just because she doesn't cave in when people complain. She is actually very nice and knowledgable in the field. She can be very blunt, and come off as rude at certain points, but she really does mean well.
I agree that she can come off as condescending when there are a lot of questions and speeds through material, but I think she is the best bet that you'll have with the orgo professors here. Overall though, you'll mostly be learning the material on your own. Highly recommend orgo as a second language book.
Kissling is always available outside of class and is really helpful when answering questions. One downfall is that she tends to focus on the "big picture" things sometimes when it would be more beneficial to focus on fine details that will appear as exam questions or on discussion quizzes. Overall, I would take her class again.
Dr. Kissling is very fun to work with, especially as an undergraduate TA. She does care for all of us and tries to be accommodating in any way she can.
Makes insane unfair tests for orgo and is quite rude to students in emails. I know orgo is supposed to be a weed-out class but the amount of work she expects is absurd. What we are lectured on does not match the tests so we are expected to completely teach ourselves out of class. Expects college students to know concepts barely covered in class.
By no means is this class easy with Kissling, but it could truly be so much worse. If you only go to lectures and avoid office hours, then Kissling may seem hard. Office hours with her are truly the key to success in Orgo.
Listen... it's hard to teach a class like orgo well. Dr. K has the class set up so it is nearly impossible to fail. She really cares about her students and their learning experience in the course. She can seem mean, but in reality she is the sweetest and her office hours are helpful. The UTS tutors are also great in this course.
Kissling is an interesting specimen. Although not my lecturer, she was the one to make the exams. She does not proof read her exams so there were numerous mistakes every time we've had an exam. I attended one lecture all semester and the rest just tutoring. The one good thing she brought to Orgo 2 was her dog.
I would learn mostly from tutoring and self-studying because lectures were simply reading off of slides very fast. She has a cute dog, but the Orgo team is very disorganized. There were mistakes on every test, discussion was not a learning experience. Not the best experience at a science-heavy school. Happy to be done with Orgo.
This class is extremely difficult, but Kissling makes it easier to understand and answers questions very well. She'll always talk to you individually about the course or anything else if you stay after class.
Dr. Kissling made orgo better than I thought it would be and I'm going to miss taking her classes. It's hard work but they give you so many resources (office hour sheets, digital textbook which is easier, the powerpoint slides, discussion interactive sheets before discussion, and points back on tests), I think the mindset you go in with matters.
Kissling does a good job at teaching very difficult material. She is very understanding that not everyone enjoys/understands orgo and makes sure that she and the other orgo professors are accessible outside of class most days of the week. Do a lot of practice questions and go to office hours!! there's LOTS of reactions to differentiate. Study A LOT
Dr. K is a great lecturer who understands that very few people understand or care about orgo. She does her absolute best to make it interesting and understandable. Very easy to get ahold of outside of class. all around baller prof
For the one time that we had her as a sub, she was quite an improvement to Varghese (no offense to her). Kissling was much easier to follow and her lecturing actually made sense. She took time to answer questions and she ensured that we understood the material. She was also a pretty good scholars prof(in case you were wondering) - overall good.
Dr.Kissling was a great professor for SCHL 127 who I would recommend for anyone taking the course
I feel like I was at a huge disadvantage of having her over the other two orgo professors this semester. Though she is the most understanding when it comes to situations and making up tests, I feel she does not cohesively explain the content and almost assumes we know certain things because she's been teaching/doing orgo for so long.
Good person, okay professor. You know she tries, but sometimes it is clear that she is just too smart and experienced to be teaching the class. She frequently skips out on useful information and sometimes tells us to not study things that end up being on the test. Her office hours are pretty helpful, though.
Kissling is very accessible outside of class and is helpful but Orgo is hard no matter who teaches. Use all of the resources possible and you will be fine. Watch the organic chem tutor for outside help. Lots of homework to boost your grade so tests aren't everything.
Kissling is a good professor. She provides a ton of extra practice and office hours. She genuinely wants to see u succeed. Organic chemistry is just a tough course, and the teachers know it. The course is laid out so its easy to get 100 on everything except for exams, which are tough. Rest of class is pretty much graded on completion. just study
She is very whimsical and knowledgeable. She will often get caught up on tangents and then rushes through slides. I don't think her section was ever "caught up" with the others. The course itself was difficult which was expected, but she and the other profs really tried to give credit where they could.
Dr. Kissling makes SCHL127 interesting and fun, and as long as you do the group presentations and show up, the class is an easy A. She offers a lot of general life/college advice and her class is very chill and laid back.
Dr. Kissling is a wonderful professor who cares deeply about her students and the course material. She keeps lecture light-hearted and goes slowly enough so that all students can follow along. She also provides numerous resources outside of lecture to help students succeed. You will do well in her class if you go to lecture and practice a lot.
Dr. K is a great professor. Organic Chemistry is a very hard subject, but if you're willing to put in the time and effort, then you should be fine. I highly suggest going to her office hours and tutoring. Make sure you do the homework because it's a good portion of your grade and can make or break it. Make sure you also get a good discussion group.
Cannot avoid taking this course. But, a big problem with this course is the following: it assumes the test questions are standardized. They are not. The teaching professors are poor and questions are not testing concepts in any standardized manner. but, the grading assumes that it is all standarized questions.
Dr. Kissling knows Organic Chemistry inside and out. Her teaching style takes some getting used to, but if you're paying attention and doing the work she recommends, it's as easy as organic can get. I recommend taking the off semester (spring). It's a smaller class (100 vs 800) plus you'll get one-on-one time with her if needed.
Organic chemistry is a tough course, but Dr. Kissling is a great teacher to have for it. She posts recordings of lectures (recorded them when covid hit), these are helpful if you didn't understand what was taught in class and for review before exams, but class shouldn't be missed because youll be confused +she takes attendance
One of the best professors at Bing. I had her for CHEM231 and enjoyed every moment of it. Dr. Kissling understands our difficulties so she often extends our due dates. She hosts like 10000 office hours weekly and replies to emails really fast.
So much extra credit on test and in the class in general. She is very available for extra help if you want it.
scholars 127 is like the easiest class ever and dr kissling makes it even easier. shes pretty funny too. sad i wont have her for orgo next semester :(
I loved her. She's so funny it made orgo entertaining
Kissling makes the class fun and light even though she is wack about explaining things. reccomend watching the asynchronous videos outside of class to actually learn. Exams are tough but just do a bunch of practice problems and youll be fine. They really want you to succeed. good luck
Kissling is a caring professor who I would describe as whimsical/wacky. If you are looking for a more serious lecture with in depth explanation, do not choose Kissing. It was helpful to watch her asynchronous videos outside of lecture, but during class she goes on tangents and covers topics quickly- definitely more of a "chill" professor.
Kissling isn't a great lecturer. It could just be me but she lectures incredibly slowly and brings up her husband at random times of the day. Most of the time, I cannot comprehend what she is saying. She is very knowledgeable in her subject, I will give her that, but she cannot teach as well as she used to, as evident in the lecture videos.
Dr. Kissling got a bit distracted during lectures sometimes, but she managed to get through every topic of the semester on time. She offered detailed explanations to difficult concepts, and her commentary during lectures is very informative. It was very helpful to see her draw out mechanisms during lecture, and she thoroughly explained each step.
Kissling does not do much in class. She goes on her tablet and phone most of the time. Never put in project grades, over-relied on her TA, and was unorganized. The class is easy and you definitely want to take the class with her. It's easy and does not require too much effort. You don't have to do the readings, just find summaries online.
Dr. K was the best professor I have ever had. While the class is difficult, she makes her expectations for the students very clear. She is so caring and passionate about chemistry. You can still get an A without reading the textbook because her lectures are very clear. Stay disciplined with going to lectures or you will very quickly fall behind.
was an average professor, sometimes over/under complicating many difficult topics. However, she was very caring. Very receptive to questions, hosted plenty of office hours, all so that her students could succeed. This class is difficult and there is lots of work to be done, but it makes such a difference, as this helps inflate your grade.
Dr. Kissling's class is a mixed bag - she can be quirky but her expertise shines through. Watching the async videos helps fill in gaps, and unstuckstudy ai was a game-changer for my study prep. Overall, a solid choice if you're willing to put in the work.
Yaps too much about personal life. Cannot stay on topic, runs off course. Sweet as a person but not as a teacher.
The TA basically taught this class. In SCHL127, Prof Kissling didn't do much. She was usually on her phone or zoning out while the TA taught. Still, she is forgiving and tries to connect with students. The class itself is extremely easy, so there's wasn't much for her to do anyway.
Dr. Kissling basically let the TA do all the teaching for the class. It's a really easy class that honestly doesnt require much work. I think I had to do like 2-3 group projects and they were really easy and straightforward. She talks about her husband and dogs a lot which takes time away from the class but to be honest, this isn't much of a class.
People complain about her a lot so it seems, but I thought she was a great professor. She's very nice, and does zoom office hours online on sunday night as well which I loved since I otherwise had class during orgo1 office hours. Keep up on studying, this is a rough class.
Kissling does not give as many examples as Mallojalla so if you need examples to understand things, choose him for orgo. However, A1 person and is more than willing to help, answer questions, and push you to succeed. This is a good professor to have on your side if youre passionate about chemistry
She has a quirky personality and very sweet. I have difficulty understanding her lectures, especially at 8:30 am but she is receptive to questions and wants to help.
Some students complain but I think shes great. Posts zoom lectures/answer keys online, has a lot of office hours and very accessible. Gives partial credit. Usually makes mistakes on tests but gives points back. Only thing is she is slow to grade and post stuff, didn't know what my grade in the class would be until the end. Orgo's just hard!
She is super nice and understanding. Added so many extra zooms, gave a lot of extra points and I think she pushed the due date to every single aleks 🤣. Her lectures are funny and energetic and you can tell she really knows her stuff. Only negatives are she SOMETIMES (imo it's overtalked) goes off course and she takes FOREEVVVVVER grading
Kissling is very knowledgeable and caring, but not the best at explaining difficult organic chemistry concepts. However, the chemistry department has a lot of resources for students even if they don't understand the material the first time in lecture.
Amazing professor, super caring, will help you as much as you need as long as you seek her out. Explains concepts clearly, delves into the etymology of terms to help you remember them, and has a myriad of mnemonics to aid your understanding and memory. Make sure you LISTEN in class - her best advice and explanations are verbal - not on the slides!
I had to work extremely hard to get a B- in Organic Chemistry and Kissling was very bad at explaining pretty much concept. I remember very vividly the first day when she said “this is a weed out class, don't get hit by the lawnmower” and from there on she had her hands steady on the throttle of those blades.
The class is hard, I HATED it. You have to study. Kissling herself? Wonderful person, SO kind and well meaning, however, not the best teacher. Uses vague analogies, gets lost in the technology, very 'old lady' (lovingly). I do feel bad being mean to her because she's very reminiscent of my grandma so if that's what you're looking for take her.
She is the sweetest ever.
So nice and cares about students. Large portion of grade was attendance, disc, & ALEKS- if you go to discussions and do HW, you should do well. Not the best at explaining things, especially for such a hard class- had to do a bunch of self teaching. Midterms hard- curved midterm exam grades @ end for final grade.
