Kocerha is a very sweet woman. She made the class harder than it had to be however with her short answer questions. Slightly confusing at times and wants you to know EVERYTHING little detail on her lecture slides. Test come directly from notes. Attend class for random in class points. Study for quizzes like they are test (detailed). Overall okay.
Dr. Kocerha is a very nice teacher who is always willing to help! Quizzes are very detailed. Study EVERYTHING on the notes, even the little pictures. I recommend studying the powerpoints right after lecture every day.
Tests and quizzes very hard! Must memorize everything on power point slides. Do that and you'll get an A
She is a very kind woman and tries to help in everyday that she can but she is not a very good professor. She can not explain things very week and just made the class extremely confusing .
Very nice person!! She's not that great at explaining things and gets confused fast but no worries, this is a class you have to study on your own time. Do that and you can make an easy A.
She does not teach very well. Her lectures are boring and not clear. She does not make it easy for students to understand chemistry.
She is the worst professor I have ever come across since I have been a student here at Georgia Southern. She does not explain the class topics well nor does she answer your questions clearly. Get ready to be very very bored and she takes attendance so you cant just leave out. I honestly came into the course excited to learn Chem but now I hate it.
I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Kocerha helped give us as many resources as possible to learn the material and course expectations. Super easy to understand, talks clearly and in organized way. It was also obvious she wanted us to not only do well in the class but in our future career as well.
Dr. Kocerha is the worst professorinstructor I've ever had. During lecture, she doesn't make sure you understand the material. Her main goal is the get through the lessons so she can stay on schedule, but she does offer many extra credit opportunities and her study guides are similar to the tests and quizzes. She is very confusing. Don't take her.
Dr. Kocerha is probably one of the best professors I've ever had. She starts off each class with a slide stating what we should know by the end of semester. It keeps the class very focused and helps us to remember and look over specific concepts. She is super easy to understand when she lectures.
She is absolutely fantastic. I don't think I've ever had a professor who genuinely cared for her students so much and wanted them to succeed. Highly recommend!
One of the better science teachers at gsu, but still not great. She does always try to help as much as she can. The information she gives on powerpoints and the tests are different. She asks her test questions in a way that you have to apply the information, you cant just memorize her powerpoints. Barely any math is involved. Def have to work hard
Dr Kochera is an amazing professor. I questioned my interest in Chemistry until I took her class. I have found my career.
Here's the thing. She's super passionate about her work. She's also confusing. A huge thing you NEED TO KNOW is that her tests are applied understandings. What you learn in class you have to use to apply to the questions on the test. To be safe, do everything on Mastering Chemistry with extra thought and effort. It can make or break your grade.
I agree with those who said Dr. K is one of the best, she really is. She is so organized in her lectures and they are super clear to follow. I think the most important thing is I feel like I really understand the material because she explains things so well and makes sure we know the basics of what we are covering. Chemistry is something though
She is a really NICE person; however, she can be very confusing during the lectures, and she gets confused easily when you ask her questions. If you go to class and pay attention to her lectures than you can make an A on her test. Her questions on the test are from her lectures.
The labs and Mastering Chemistry WILL determine if you make an A or not. If you go to every class, pay attention, and take notes you will be absolutely fine. She drops the lowest test grade. 4 exams plus the final. She can be a little extra sometimes but as long as youre paying attention, mastering chem, and labs you'll probably make a solid A or B
Outstanding prof!!! Very clear, direct, and smart. She can connect different concepts during the middle of a lecture like no one I've ever seen. Only tiny negative, she's so nice that I wish she would stand up a bit more when students ask questions that are off topic or have already been discussed at length to save class time.
She's very sweet as a person, but that's it. Makes easy concepts very complex, difficult to understand and doesn't explain things well. She expects you to know out of the blue things. Gets very flustered if you have a question. She grades very strictly. If you don't word something exactly how she would, it is wrong. DO NOT TAKE, RUN FOR THE HILLS
She is great! Our class didn't do really well on the first test and she worked with us to the point that our class average on the second test went up into the 80's, which I didn't think was possible. And, I never thought I'd be able to understand something like quantum #s, but she made it easy. She is one of the best professors at GSU.
Dr K is an amazing person, but she mixes herself up on some of her lectures and she can end up confusing you entirely. If you do end up taking her for this course over the summer or any other time make sure you are ready to study the notes pretty good. She does care about students and overall good professor Gives quizzes and few hmwk assignments.
I just took Biochem with Dr. K and she gives the most interesting, captivating lectures at GSU! LOVED LOVED this course. Biochem is a lot of work, but this was by far my favorite course at the university!!
Dr. K is my favorite professor at Georgia Southern University, I was struggling with bio-chem and she helped me get my grade up to an A
Her lectures aren't great but if you attend the SI sessions the class will be a breeze. Kocerha really does care about students success though and gives extra credit quizzes before every test. Her tests are very fair and are exactly what is covered in class. There's no textbook but you need Mastering Chemistry.
Excellent, if you really want to understand chemistry, Dr. K is the one to take. I never really understood chem before this semester and struggled. She works hard to try to make sure the students get the main points.
She is a very kind and caring women. Lectures are pretty good, mostly examples instead of notes. Does a good job explaining material and tests are exactly like the practice problems. Gets VERY flustered if asked a question in front of the class, if you have a question it is much better to write it down and ask after class or wait until SI.
Dr. Kocerha is a bit on the scattered side, but she is so great. Makes chemistry interesting and skips over the unnecessary things that we wouldn't ever need. Also, she gives great examples of problems that will be on her tests and she uses acronyms and shortcuts to help remember things that would otherwise be extremely difficult to memorize.
Dr. K is phenomenal !! You leave her course with a deep understanding of chemistry but also how to study more effectively. I wish I had her earlier in my education. Never have I had a professor who cared so much that I knew the fundamentals of the concepts taught.
Dr. Kocerha is such a sweet, genuine professor who not only wants her students to exceed in her class but learn a lot as well. Sometimes her lectures ramble, but you can tell she really strives to teach the material very well. She's very helpful and gives numerous opportunities for extra credit. Would 10/10 recommend her!!
She is very scattered and goes off topic a lot but she is so far the EASIEST chem teacher out of all the other chem teachers so I would recommend taking her class. You do not need a textbook for her class.
Dr. K is one of the most kindhearted professors I've ever had. She truly cares about each and every student and wanted them to succeed. Her tests are not difficult and she gives many opportunities for extra credit. She often goes off on tangents during her lectures but she is a great teacher.
Dr. Kocerha is a great professor to have. If you come to her office, she is glad to help. Although attendance is not required, she will conduct in class work and sign in sheets at random for a grade. Do the mastering chemistry work, it helps alot!
Dr. K is a really good chem professor but chem isn't easy. Generally her lectures are problem based, so she helps you understand problems on the test. She drops lowest test grade, there are 4 test and a final. As far as homework, there are MC assignments before every test, which are directly related to test problems. Learn them and you'll do fine!!
She is the best . She doesnt want to see anyone fail and if you do then you have to try really hard to fail because she gives you a lot of opportunities and drops some grades. Class isnt mandatory but sometimes she gives assignments. My one tip is try your best to get an A on 3 of the 4 exams or at least 2 A s and a high B because she drops one.
Dr. K is really nice and not that bad of a teacher but she tends to ramble on about material or other topics that are not related to the topic we are discussing that day. Her test are all based on her lectures so I recommend attending class and she likes to give extra points with in-class assignments.
Dr. K is a good Professor. She does the best she can to help students get good grades. She gives extra credit quizzes a week in advance online for the exams so you can get a couple bonus points, so do take advantage of those. Attendance was not mandatory but she did sometimes give in class work to turn in for participation grade.
She's caring and wants to help her students but does not know how to. Couldn't stay on topic during class and was all over the place. I didn't learn anything from here and had to teach myself. Wouldn't recommend.
She is a sweet lady but she is just not a good teacher. You need to go to class but you probably will be very confused during class because she is bad at explaining concepts. She does give extra points for classwork, and she drops a test so that is nice. I think she knows what she's talking about but she doesn't know how to teach the material.
Really great professor, I LOVED the review worksheets she made. They helped a lot to practice the concepts. A little scared of the final exam, but this course was well taught.
Does an okay job of explaining the concepts behind 1146, however never truly makes it clear without confusion. Rambles on about higher-level curriculum that truly just confuses everyone in the room. She's a caring teacher, and is there to help however. It is just very difficult if you are a beginner at chemistry and want to learn more in-depth.
Dr. K is definitely my favorite science professor at GSU. This is the first time I've really understood chemistry.
Dr.K is a really helpful professor. She wants her students to pass and understand. If you need help with anything let her know and she will make sure you understand it.
I loved Dr. K's class, she is awesome!! My advice is really listen to what she tells you to study and practice and focus exam prep on that. Would 100% recommend.
Dr. Kocerha was my worst professor. She isnt a good teacher and she explains things poorly. She does drop the lowest test grade and will give extra credit. Overall, I learned nothing from her and had to spend most of my time trying to figure things out outside of class. Do not recommend!
Knows what shes talking about, has no idea how to teach it. Most of us just came to class to make a list of what well have to teach to google later. No clear structure in lectures, and doesnt explain basic information before talking about more specific concepts. Willing to work with us, but sometimes condescending or wont answer questions.
This was my first semester at Georgia Southern University and Dr. K made it a great experience. I struggled at the beginning making the transition from high school to university level but she was so helpful. And, I really like the organization of her lectures, it was clear to follow.
Dr. K wasnt a bad professor, but I wouldnt recommend taking her as a first semester Freshman like I did. I feel like she isnt very thorough and I had never really struggled with chemistry until her class. Her tests were also pretty difficult, the class average for all four exams was in the low 70s, luckily she did drop the lowest test score.
Strict on talking. Majority of the class is lecture but information is repeated multiple time. I like chemistry but this was a boring class to take. I would not take it again because I didnt learn any new content in class. A majority of learning was done on my own.
Lecture is easy to follow and she makes it easy to understand a difficult subject! Lots of extra credit opportunities. Gives lots of practice problems to make sure we understand the work which is really helpful. would definitely recommend taking her!
I love how Dr. K provides us many worksheets and practice problems. Her lectures also have a good flow to them to make it easier to follow. She also starts of every lecture with a quick recap from the previous lecture which is super helpful.
Dr. K was an awesome professor. If you struggle with Chemistry, however, she doesn't seem to understand many questions you ask. Most of this course was plugging in variables though. She was very particular about making sure showing up to class is a big priority and having the correct calculator too, knit-picky but wants whats best for the student.
Definitely one of my favorite science professors at GSU. I just felt her lectures flowed really well, she connected topics when possible which was very helpful, lots of examples and worksheets. I truly understood the concepts, she breaks the material down in a way such that you really grasp it. Still a tough subject, but Dr. K is great.
The good thing about this course is that the lowest test and quiz grade is dropped. The quizzes tend to be super hard while I make As-Bs on the test. I really teach myself everything as the lectures are very vague. When you go to her for help she says "you are overthinking it" and that is about it. She is a sweet lady just not the best professor.
Dr. Kocerha is a super sweet lady and truly cares about her students. She wants everyone to do well in her class and is VERY available for extra help if needed. Going to her class is not mandatory, but you will not learn if you do not go. She offers A LOT of extra credit and will most definitely work with her students.
Dr. Kocerha is a great professor that shows that she really cares for her students. She's very understanding towards people and, while at times can be a little off topic in her lectures, is the perfect teacher when it comes to easing into college life and classes.
Be ready to teach yourself in this class. I'm not sure if its because lectures were over zoom this year but this professor taught me barely anything. She flies through problems that she says you need to know for tests and never explains how to solve them if you're confused. She also never gives you info you need to know for word answers on tests.
I believe that she is a great teacher, just be prepared for her to move fast. The tests, quizzes, and the class itself are hard but she loves for you to ask questions. She also does study sessions.
I am not great at chemistry and Dr.K doesnt exactly teach the way I learn so this class was challenging for me. We had 2 pop classwork assignments, attendance is vital and so are GOOD notes. Before you email her, check the syllabus! Overall, nice but tangents often. vague lectures, tough tests.
Dr. K was a great professor to have for a freshman course. She tries to help her students the best ways possible. She holds multiple review sessions a week between her and the classes SI. Overall, if you make sure to study, practice the material, and use the resources she gives you the course shouldn't be too difficult.
Honestly I didnt attend many of the zoom lectures but I still did most of the work by looking over the powerpoints. There were half in person labs and half online ones. They were all pretty basic to understand and the tests are super easy if you attend her zoom reviews.
I am in Chemistry 1212 now and wish I would've made her my professor again! She moves fast, but if you watch the zoom lectures again you'll be fine. Half of the time I would not attend during the actual class time, so I could watch the recordings. Would definitely recommend her!
I honestly didnt learn much in this class, but I think due to it being online (COVID). Dr. K is very scatter brained and moves somewhat quick. I did well because I took notes and watched recorded zooms. She likes engagement and loves when students ask questions; however, a lot of times your question doesnt get answered, but she tries her best.
She is the best professor you can take for chemistry. She really cares about her students and wants them to do well in the class. Attendance isn't mandatory but she gives classwork that's graded. She works out problems in class that are just like the tests and quizzes. She also drops one of every graded assignment.
Summer minimester online. Easy A. Main eportfolio project due at the end. She separates it into sections due throughout course. Other papers like resume, cover letter, etc. assignments. Responds quickly to questions. Really helps discover who you want to be outside of college.
Dr K is awesome! I truly appreciated how she presented the material in a way that was understandable. She truly cares about the students really comprehending the material and the overall good scores on our exams reflected that.
Her lectures are disorganized, she is unprepared for class, and she goes off-topic for half of the lecture. Before every exam, I had to teach myself with the SI worksheets because she doesn't post the answers to her worksheets. The material isn't complicated but she makes it confusing (many students had to correct her). Do not recommend.
I had her for CHEM 1310 & she was the best professor of the options we had. However, she doesn't explain the labs well and is rude to her TA's. She asks students to ask questions then would get upset if you asked a question over a topic she felt you should know. She does drop your lowest Test grade and offers EC. SI is normally not like the tests.
Dr. K's were organized and made taking chemistry less stressful. She began lectures by recapping the previous lecture. She used worksheets as a guide for the lectures and exams. If you knew how to answer the worksheet and Knowledge Check questions, that was good preparation for the exams. I felt like I left this course really learning a lot.
Dr. K is truly an amazing and caring Professor. Very easy to understand her lectures, she gives us time to practice concepts in class, and her exams all come from lecture. She also provides worksheets for each chapter that we go over during lectures.
this class sucks the professor has a monotone voice which makes it even harder to listen when the mic doesn't work good. it was a waste of time to go to the lectures because i would go then have to go back home and teach myself by youtube.
Taking a college chemistry course is scary, but Dr. K has a reassuring attitude throughout the semester. She routinely summarized the main course topics and gives time during lecture to practice concepts, and tells us not to be afraid to make mistakes during practce. Highly recommend Dr. K as probably one of the best Professors I've had so far.
She excelled as a professor, supporting student achievement by allowing the exclusion of the lowest test, lab, and quiz grades. Renowned for her compassion and empathy, she readily aids students navigating difficulties. Although not compulsory, attending lectures in person is recommended for in-person assignments.
SHE IS SO SWEET! Let me retake assignments I missed and also drops a quiz, test, and lab every semester. She is very caring and will help any student to work things out with their grade. Tests are pretty straightforward and similar to the homework and worksheets she gives out. Gives some credit on tests even if the answer is wrong.
Dr.Kocerha was very nice and gave you lots of material to work with. Despite her teaching to almost 100~ students she and her TA do a good job of trying to make sure everyone understands the material, and gives lots of extra chances / extra credit. She is very generous and great when it comes to understanding any problems you might have.
Dr K is one of the most organized and caring professors I've had. She has supplemental information and worksheets for each chapter, really emphasizes in lectures the overview of each topic, and gives us time during lecture to practice. She understands this is a course typically of first year university students and guides us accordingly
Dr. K did a great job helping our large class get back on track after several-hurricane related disruptions. Her worksheets and Knowledge Checks for each chapter prepared me well for the exams. She also made us brief study gudies after the hurricanes to further help students organize before the tests. Well structured course.
She is a case of 'good person, bad teacher'.Her lectures were easy to follow initially, but as the year progressed they got worse. They often consisted of just her talking for an hour 45min,where she would go all over the place with what she was talking about, talking about relevant info, but not stringing it together in a way that made sense.
The professor is an incredibly caring and king person, but it's so difficult trying to understand the lectures. She can go on tangents sometimes about separate topics and tends to over complicate things that are relatively simple. I enjoy her class especially the labs but it feels unnecessarily difficult.
Tried to get ask for help in office hours once and was told my current knowledge was "unacceptable". Didn't have patience when asking for assistance in labs either. Lectures are difficult to follow. Whenever a question was asked in class it was as if they were speaking a foreign language that she couldn't understand. She drops a test which is nice.
You really have to listen in class, she offers easy extra credit assignments in class. Si leaders help a lot, if you do not go you will probably have to teach yourself. You should get a 100 on every assignment (besides test) which help. Test are 25 multiple choice and you are given a study guide. I was terrified of chem but i recommend.
Definitely one of my favorite Professors, especially since I was anxious to take a university chemistry course. Dr. K was organized in our course materials, and made it clear what we would be tested on. You can tell she wants the best for her students and how to manage time and problem solving. Great lecturer with a calm attitude.
She is SUCH a sweet woman, however she makes chemistry very difficult. I have always excelled in math and science, but her class seemed impossible. The way she teaches makes the content extremely difficult and all of my friend in this class have done poorly on the tests. I wish she was a better teacher because she is an amazing person, not teacher
Dr. Kocerha is a sweet and caring professor, but her teaching style complicates simple topics, making them harder to understand. She often rambles during lectures and struggles to effectively answer questions. To grasp the material and achieve a good grade, you'll need to learn independently or attend every SI session.
I had Dr. K for Chem 1211 and really wish I could of taken her again for Chem 1212, but she's teaching a different course. I'm not sure if I've ever had a Professor care so much about student learning. She even modified some of our labs to help us. Amazing person.
An amazing Professor. Does everything possible to help provide us practice questions and study guides for exam preparation. This class covers a lot of different topics but it's not too bad because of the worksheets and labs to help practice.
