Awesome professor! Dr. Kreitzer invests a lot in her students. Classes are engaging and use lots of relevant examples. There's plenty of room for students to focus on topics they're interested in, and Dr. Kreitzer respects ideological diversity. She gives great feedback on students' work. Do the readings, pay attention, and you'll be fine.
This class greatly increased my knowledge of US policy and politics. I have never been so connected to current events while learning about applicable political and policy theories. Dr. Kreitzer is a very caring professor, produced interesting lectures, and encouraged thoughtful discussion. I would highly recommend the honors section too.
Honestly, worst public policy professor I have EVER had. Her criteria for assignments are so vague and then she takes off so many points for things that she never made clear had to be in the actual assignments or test. Definitely would recommend taking this class with someone else if you value your GPA.
Worst instructor I have ever had She is rude to students, not understanding and has no control over her TA's. She is extremely petty and is not a cordial person to talk to. Everyone I know in this class is so frustrated with her and the TA'.s Content is not hard at all but the grading criteria is nearly impossible to appease. DO NOT TAKE WITH HER!
The way the class is structured is engaging and interesting. But its the most unreasonable grading I ever had to deal with. The TAs (which were terrible as well) were the pickiest graders and would count off points often, but its hard because the rubric/ expectations are way to vague and high. Grading was most annoying part. Goes too fast in lec
The class itself felt a lot like advanced AP Gov and was pretty boring as a policy major. You'll have a good grasp of most topics covered if you pay attention to the news. Professor Kreitzer was sweet, though, and it seems like she cares a lot about her students. Very possible to get an A if you work hard despite the abnormal scale (94+ for an A)
All of the assignments for this class were extremely vague and explained poorly. The grading was unorganized and she was very passive aggressive at times. Would not recommend.
her teaching is literally the reason I have dropped my public policy minor. First off, so childish. After pop reading guide quizzes, some students leave (its their choice, get over it) she actually stops class to call them out and make a petty comment. This has happened multiple times. Goes too fast and gets annoyed when you ask to go back a slide.
My experience in PLCY 220 wasn't the best. On the first day, Kreitzer said she would be bipartisan in her lectures, but this wasn't true. The videos she chose to show and the way she framed issues was definitely partisan and made the class extremely unenjoyable. She wanted extreme specificity on test. I just wouldn't recommend this class with her.
this is by far the most stressful class that i have taken. Too many readings without context and a whole ton of assignments for no rhyme or reason. further, the class is badly conducted . On the whole a terrible class for me.
I thought the material was interesting and the exams were straightforward, but the grading for those and the policy brief was unnecessarily harsh. I also wish she had posted her slides after class. Do the reading guides, go to class, pick a topic you like for the brief, and you might end up with an A.
Professor Kreitzer IS the reason why I chose to major in Public Policy. Her lectures inspire you to really care about politics. The readings that she assigns are usually news, podcasts, etc. (super interesting). Take your time on the briefs! Also, she made a comment ONCE about ppl leaving after a quiz. The quizzes VERY similar to the hw questions.
When lecturing, she goes very fast and does not go over things in detail. But on the exams she expects extreme depth in the answers(which I understand)but when you don't teach it properly, it is hard to know what your standards are(were usually way too high).I have never put so much effort into a class and left feeling so unaccomplished. Dont take
Professor Kreitzer is incredibly knowledgable on gender and sexuality policy. Her lectures are engaging and relevant! The majority of your grade is a group paper that is completed in chunks, no midterm or final, occasional reading "pop" quizzes that are really easy if you do the readings and reading guides that she gives you.
Dr. Kreitzer is HARD, but the class is interesting. If you haven't done the reading, you will be out of luck when she calls on you. She talks fast in class but I feel like I really get my tuition dollars out of her class. Her tests are hard but doable if you've done the readings and come to class.
Y'all. This class is hard. You HAVE TO go to class AND do the readings. Just showing up every once in a while will NOT cut it and you will get a bad grade. Don't do that. If you show up and read, the class is awesome. She knows so much and is FUNNY. So - don't take it if you can't or won't do the work, but if you do, she's worth it.
The class is interesting and RELEVANT. Grading expectations are super clear (all rubrics online), she gives you the quiz questions ahead of time and you can use your notes, and she hints at exam essay questions. Her notes aren't online so you have to go to class. She goes fast and has high expectations, but if you do the work, it's a great class.
I don't know what class these haters took, but I loved this. She packs so much material into the course and the assignments are all really hands on and creative. She talks fast and walks fast and thinks fast and if that scares you, go take a different class.
I went into this thinking that I just wanted to get through the class so I could take other more interesting stuff. I WAS WRONG. I learned so much. Prof. Kreitzer talks fast because she has SO MUCH to tell us. She packs so much into the class because she wants us to know everything. Do the reading. Come to class. Get your mind blown.
I'm honestly surprised by these other reviewers!! They don't sound like the class I am taking at all! Dr. Kreitzer is super clear about expectations, said that most students get a B or A, and encourages people to reassess how they think about policy. The lectures are fast, but she repeats things/slides when asked. SUPER interesting lectures.
She has really interesting lectures, and usually spends like half the lecture talking about current events. Gives pop quizzes, but the questions all come from reading guides she gives in advance. Bit of a tough grader, but if you're in depth in your work its not too bad. Makes the class really interesting, and shows videos a lot.
LOVED this class! Lots of theory but always connects it to real policy issues, which you get to explore in a policy brief about any topic you want. Great lecturer and always prompts student engagement/discussion. Super clear grading criteria. You'll do well if you show up and put in the work.
Kreitzer is an amazing professor (and just person in general). She really does a great job of explaining the material and cares that students are able to succeed. She is very intentional about grades and assignments and goes above and beyond to ensure that students are getting a fair shake. You can tell she loves what she does and it comes through.
Dr. Kreitzer is awesome! She is so knowledgeable, but makes the material super approachable. She is super accommodating and really witty.
She went very easy on us during corona, but before that happened there was a decent amount of reading for each class, and random pop quizzes. There's also a semester-long project to make a policy brief. She was hard for me to get ahold of during the semester but she's nice and tries to make lectures interesting.
I loved Dr. Kreitzer! The material is interesting and relevant, you'll learn a lot about current events and she's pretty funny. PowerPoints aren't provided so lectures are super important. The reading guides are literally the answer to pop quizzes and she hints about possible exam topics. Not an easy class, but definitely worth the effort.
BY FAR the most organized professor/class during the online pandemic semester. The recorded lectures are engaging and not boring. The expectations for grading were really clear. I also learned a lot and think about the world differently because of this class. The content is really relevant.
I was super excited about this class but it was honestly a let down. Dr. Krietzer is nice enough, but she relied too heavily on TA's that did not do a great job. We had a semester long project that we received little to no feedback on and grading for all assignments took forever. I thought I would get an A- in the class and ended up with a B.
PLCY 220 was run beautifully. It was so well organized, grading criteria was clear, everything was planned out and it was so appreciated. I didn't even do in that well in the class (my fault really study and make review guides, it helps!) but her lectures were AMAZING. She made every topic interesting. Difficult exams, managable semester project.
I took this class online asynchronously, so I felt like I didn't really get to know the professor; however, I feel that Prof. Kreitzer is a great professor and cares about student success. She provides all material needed and is very interesting and approachable. Highly recommend!!
Professor K was amazing! We had 2 recorded lectures to watch each week that were 45 minutes long, but they were always really interesting. Having no textbooks was a plus (we used online resources). We also had one reading quiz a week, but those were not hard at all. I'm taking another class with Professor K next semester bc I loved this class!
Dr. Kreitzer's lectures were very interesting and usually short (about 40 min). The class was asynchronous which provided much flexibility. Only a draft and final copy of a policy brief and policy brief fact sheet, midterm, and final exam were graded. The exams were open notes as well. Overall, the class was easy and very enjoyable.
Prof Kreitzer's class is 10/10 my favorite class I've taken at UNC. Her lecture style is informative and keeps you wanting to listen. She is a fair grader, and if you complete your work and stay up to date with assignments, it is very manageable to receive an A in the course, even if taken online. Very amazing professor for sure!
Very nice, knowledgeable, + always replied to email. Espc with COVID, she was v organized, and was on time with the asych lectures. Lectures were interesting and informative, and she lets you know what you need to know from them. Reading is necessary bc of pop quizzes, but they're easy. Class is mostly a policy brief that is turned in in parts.
I loved taking PLCY 220 with Professor K! SUCH an informative class. It was asynchronous, which made it really easy to fit into my schedule. Not a lot of work at all, just a 2 page policy brief of your choosing turned in in parts throughout the semester and 2 exams (open note). Always willing to talk in OH. Take PLCY 220 with her!!
Professor Kreitzer knows a lot about her field. Grain of salt, I took this class online with asynchronous, recorded lectures. The subject material is great for anyone interested in learning more about public policy, political science, & the role that media plays in both. She is available outside of class & likes to engage students with the material
TAKE HER CLASSES PLEASE. Professor Kreitzer is so passionate and such a good teacher. I took this class asynchronous and I can just tell shed be so engaging in person. Super responsive and helpful in office hours.
Take her classes if you can! Her class was foundational, but it did not feel boring or overly technical at all. She is so flexible and understanding with the pandemic situation and is very organized with day by day schedules and clear grading formats. The best professor I've had at UNC so far.
Prof. Kreitzer is seriously the best professor I've had at UNC. Her learning goals are incredibly clear, her lectures are actually interesting, and the assignments aren't hard at all. The only thing is the reading could be a bit heavy at times. But she's SO knowledgable and I loved her connecting the dots lectures.
Dr. Kreitzer deeply cares about the subject material and helping students. Expectations were clear, there were a good amount of assignments, and the asynch lectures were interesting. Every week there was a discussion session that I felt was a bit long each week, but other than that, the class was very doable and you can learn a lot.
I LOVE THIS WOMAN. She is one of the most knowledgeable and passionate profs I've ever had. I took it asynchronously and the lectures were interesting, so I can only imagine how great they'll be in person. Super clear about how everything is graded and is flexible and understanding. Seriously take a class with her if you can!
She was so accomodating to all of her students and made sure that we were all put in a position to do our best in the class while maintaining our mental health. I learned a lot about politics and how to have relevant conversations around modern topics. 220 with Kreitzer is a must-take.
This is a very standard class, good place to begin if you are a policy major at UNC. PLCY 101 is not required for the major, many think that. This is a straightforward and simple class, Prof Krietzer has very good rubrics. Grading is a little slow, but tests are pretty easy and you have a policy brief.
This class is incredibly easy, especially if you have already taken other plcy classes or are politically conscious. You can get an A without reading and with very minimal effort. Kreitzer is very accommodating by accepting late work and offering extra credit and online lecture videos. Tells you exactly what's on the exam.
LOVED Prof Kreitzer! Her lectures were amazing and she was the most organized and clear professor I have ever had. She did a wonderful job making her class accessible during Covid (recorded lectures in addition to an in person option), and truly thought of so many ways to make her course more equitable. Take her if you can! You won't regret it :)
I was honestly shocked to see any negative reviews on Prof. Kreitzer! She's *super* understanding, caring, and generally really chill. As someone with a short attention span, I always felt engaged in her class. I was never worried about my grade any more than general test anxiety, etc. because grading criteria is clear and extremely lenient. <3 her
She managed to make a class with easy content pretty difficult. She and the TAs are extremely harsh graders (only 9 people got an A on the midterm in a class of about 120). Took 6 weeks to get back midterm grades. The semester-long project had the next part due before receiving feedback on the previous one. One of the worst class experiences at UNC
Prof Kreitzer was interesting during lecture and provided a good amount of flexibility to her students. However, grades were inconsistent and slow, and readings felt unnecessarily long and unrelated to the class.
Kreitzer explains concepts well and is very knowledgeable about her field. Policy brief assignment throughout the semester, some easy reading quizzes, and all writing midterm and final. Our midterms were graded pretty harshly and the feedback on my exam didn't make sense. Grading is SO slow--took well over a month to get our midterm grades back.
the people saying this class was hard def didn't show up to class. she was very flexible and cared a lot. posted all her lectures online and had flexible deadlines. if you give more than bare minimum that class is super easy and interesting
All lectures were online, easy reading quizzes, clear grading rubrics, and 10 flex days, plus interesting lectures. Yes, midterms were graded harshly and slow - but she did a big review of them and raised grades. People saying it was hard and unfairly graded posted reviews before that. Honestly, one of the best profs I've had at UNC.
All depends on TA. Grading is pretty clear, just ask for feedback where you can. Go to class.
Professor Kreitzer is a good teacher and has all of her lectures posted online. I would definitely recommend going to class or watching all the lectures and doing the readings because it will help you on the exams. Your TA grades most of your stuff but there were so many delays in grading.
This is actually one of the worst classes I've taken at UNC - they still haven't posted grades more than 9 days after the final exam was taken. It is absolutely ridiculous that they are taking so long with grading but also the course content for this class is not very useful. It is like taking AP Gov all over again for no reason.
As a prof and person, she's great. Super nice and caring, and her lectures are pretty good as well. The only bad part of the class was the grading. Grading took super long and some TAs seemed to grade harsher than others but overall, the content wasn't too bad (similar to intro Poli Sci) and you should be able to do fine if you put some effort in.
She's a nice person and is genuinely interested in the material and passionate about teaching. However, the grading was so disorganized, and grades weren't put in until almost two weeks after the final exam. The TAs grade very harshly and on completely different scales.
Shit professor. She is the most left-wing professor I have had at UNC, but claims she is perfectly fair because her father was a Republican. Every example is Republicans are evil but Democrats are good. I am largely used to it as obviously I attend UNC but it was so bad that I walked out. In good news, the class isn't hard so that's a positive.
I took this as a first semester freshman - 1st policy class. This class made me love the major! Lectures were very engaging and content was easy to follow. The policy brief was really fun as it was an infographic. The midterm/final were all writing which was rough, but everyone got high A's. Overall highly recommend
good teacher, boring class for me but I needed the gen-ed. outlines for exams make it easier to study. reading quiz every week, and exams are all open-ended questions. graders were kinda harsh too. semester long project wasn't bad since its broken up into three parts. I liked that she allowed flex days, so major due dates were kinda flexible.
Prof. Kreitzer is the most disorganized professor that I have ever encountered at UNC. While she seems passionate about the content she teaches, it is impossible to reach her by email, even in dire situations. She is not able to balance her workload, and it rubs off on her students.
I loved Dr Kreitzer's class! I thought her way of breaking the policy brief up into parts to keep us on track and provide flexibility was super helpful. Her lectures could sometimes be boring and drag on a bit because there was not much engagement, but overall she makes it very clear what you need to know. Midterm and final were writing but not bad
Dr. Kreitzer is a good, kind professor. She's amicable when chatting with students, and enthusiastic with content. She added 10% to final exam grades. Grades took an eternity to come back. Lecture recordings aren't readily available, but vital for success, which was highly inconvenient. TAs grade assignments worth ~38% of course grade.
I really liked Professor Kreitzer. However, she was not very accessible and in my case, there were grading discrepancies with the TA that were not properly resolved. Overall, there were few ways for me to assess whether my study and work habits were either helping or harming me in this class, as feedback was either extremely delayed or nonexistent.
Overall this class was pretty easy, except for the time it took for grades. We didn't receive our fact sheet or midterm grade until the week before the brief was due. We didn't know the grade for our final project going into the final. The exams aren't super difficult, and she lays them out before, but you won't know your grade before the final.
Nearly impossible to reach outside of class. Slow on grading, never clear where you stood before the final. Unclear grading criteria.
I was shocked to see how many bad reviews Dr. Kreitzer has. Does it take her a little more time to get grades back? Yes. But she is also open about her struggles and is extremely apologetic. She is knowledgeable, passionate, and honest with all of her students-- you just may need to stay after class and talk to her. I couldn't recommend her enough!
Prof. Kreitzer was one of the most enthusiastic and intelligent professors I have ever had, but that was constantly pushed to the side to make way for the pure frustration this class gave me. Grades took FOREVER to come back, and when my final grade did come back, it was put into Connect Carolina wrong and had to be changed. Which took forever.
I loved her lecture content and energy, and that you could join her lectures via Zoom. That said, because everything is handwritten, midterms/final project took a while to get back. The 2 midterms were writing-based but not challenging. This course helped me decide I wanted to major in Public Policy! She's a great professor, totally recommend
Dr. Kreitzer is a really interesting lecturer and gives you a great overview of politics and policy in general, her class is really large so attendance isn't taken and all the info she goes over are on the slides she publishes first week of the year so you aren't missing anything if you don't go to class, she takes forever to grade the midterm
We didn't get our midterms back until after LDOC and while we were told all we had to do was "have the right idea", the midterm was graded very harshly. Many of my answers had feedback like "excellent job, 2/5". It was also mostly graded by TA's. Everyone I've talked to about the midterm felt their grade didn't reflect their performance.
Dr. Kreitzer was very understanding and cared about students. Most lectures were engaging, but some of them felt like a waste because they were stating the obvious. She took forever to grade our midterm despite it being one of the only assignments for the whole semester. Frustrating at times but if you have to take 220 you'll be fine.
Professor Excuses. Gave us our midterm grade after LDOC and was an hour and 15 minutes late to the final. Class was easy but she made it frustrating.
Got midterm grade back a week before the final. Showed up to the final over an hour late, had 2 different versions of the exam, and it was all over the place. Often did not take responsibility for anything, has a bad work/life balance. She also often went off schedule from syllabus and changed assignment due dates last minute, like after it was due
She showed up over an hour late for final, didn't let TA's know she would be late, handed out 50ish exams and let students start the exam while others were still studying, when she finally brought in the correct exams pages were missing. Overall, biggest show of unprofessionalism I have seen at UNC.
Professor Kreitzer is a very knowledgeable and is a nice lady. However, she's disorganized and doesn't respect her students' time. We barely got our midterm back before the final and she showed up 1 hour late to the test without notifying anyone (including TAs) of her situation. I honestly did like her, but it's clear this semester was difficult.
Class structure made it easy to do almost all online. Glad I did b/c of a final exam fiasco where she showed up an hour late w/ no advance warning. Lecture slides were substantive & organized, making hw & studying real easy. Midterm & final were long answer format that didn't provide enough time to answer each question in as much depth as I wanted.
Prof Kreitzer cares about her students and is great at putting vocab/concepts into real-life context. The class is composed of a few "low-stakes", easy assignments (that really boost your grade), a midterm exam, and a final exam. If you go to class and look at the slides (which are nicely organized), you'll do good in this class.
We are paying this person over 160k to teach one class, and she can't even get her act together in that one class. Simply unacceptable.
Professor Kreitzer went through a lot of content quickly so sometimes it was hard to keep up. However I felt that she graded exams somewhat leniently to make up for this. She took a while to grade and was a little disorganized overall but she was very nice and knowledgeable on content. The lectures themselves were interesting and relevant.
One of my favorite professors. Her lectures are fascinating, and she gives many opportunities to improve your grade. Does not use textbooks, instead, she provides reading articles each week. Grading did take longer, but midterm was open ended so understood. Grades were provided back in timely manner, and grading criteria was fair. Very personable
Professor Kreitzer is a very nice person, and does a good job explaining things in class. For me, class moved too quickly and Professor Kreitzer was a little bit unorganized. Overall pretty easy class.
Professor Kreitzer was a pretty good professor. She was really nice and sat down to answer my questions. She was a bit unorganized and she takes forever to grade, due to the exams being all written response. Content information was too much for only 2 exams. Other than that, the class was decent.
Amazing professor. All the content is super relevant and helpful and you will walk away from each class learning something. The exams were kind of annoying because she stresses not focusing on memorization but exams are closed note, but overall not too bad. Also records lectures so you can watch later which is super helpful.
Prof. Kreitzer is such an interesting lecturer and kind person! Most of the grade comes from a midterm and final but the class also includes some small, easy assignments to help your grade. As much as I liked her as a person, this class was really disorganized, which is why I wouldn't take a class with her again. However, not difficult to do well!
Class was a joke. Attended every day hoping to eventually learn something, but no. Content was boring, basic information. Would be fine if this was the only issue. However, there is a much more serious issue in her severe disorganization. She took a month or longer to grade, and we still have no final grade resulting in a NR being reported.
Professor Kreitzer is an amazing professor and lecturer. My only complaint is that she does grade very slowly. It took well over a month for us to have our midterm exams released and well over two weeks for our final exams to be released. However, she does grade this in a very fair manner.
PLCY 220 is an interesting course, and I found Professor Kreitzer's lectures to be engaging. However, the experience was soured by the fact that midterm grades took well over a month to come back, and final grades were returned a week and half past the 72-hour deadline. Accessibility outside class was another issue.
didn't really care for her lectures, the reading quizzes are a lot but her grading of them is good. honestly an easy class and attendance isn't even mandatory, the tests were simple and it was one of the easier courses I've taken. she takes a lot of time to grade the exams though which I didn't like.
Class was easy, I attended lecture (though not necessary) but the content was relatively common knowledge. Nice person, terribly disorganized. Took a week to return final exam grades, constantly changed deadlines, and abused the freedoms of having a syllabus she likes to refer to as a "living document." Easy class, but wouln't recommend.
Just to reiterate what other people are saying - she takes forever to grade. Other than that though, the content is incredibly detailed and is decently based on memorization. She seems like a really nice person but her class made me fall asleep and I skipped it often. Don't take unless you are very passionate about politics.
Prof Kreitzer regularly begins class by apologizing for her latest disorganization. She is a nice person and definitely knows about the subject, but also the least organized professor I have ever had the misfortune of taking. Reading quizzes are very easy but often have wrong due dates. Final grades were submitted 2 weeks after the exam.
Kreitzer was an amazing down to earth prof. Please note that she emphasizes that she is Autistic and ADHD, so her class can be chaotic at times. However, overall it was a great course and deadlines were usually pushed back if anything went array. Awesome teacher and person. Take a class with her!
I took this class from 5:05-6:20 on M/W. maybe that's why it was so difficult to pay attention, but this class is SO boring. boring lectures every day, she's so unorganized and takes forever to grade, almost impossible to reach over email. was easy enough to get good grades in, but I have no idea where i stand with my grade right now
Very nice person and super educated but struggled a lot with the assignments aspect of being a professor. Had some insanely conflicting expectations, but she will just end up giving you an A. If you want to learn about interesting things and do well, I would recommend. I think the course would have been more effective with more clear expectations.
It was easy to get an A in PLCY 220. She records her lectures and will send them to you on request. The course topics were interesting, and I showed up to lectures almost always. The final grade is based mostly on two writing-based exams worth 33% each and other busywork. If you do the readings and show up to lectures, the tests will be simple.
Literally never posted the final exam. Like... just did not post one. Went ghost after LDOC & now we are all getting Not Reported grades. Also, never graded anything. She posted the midterm a month after the syllabus said. It goes so far that I feel bad for her. We all quit showing up to class after a while, but she seems like a nice person. Weird.
PLCY 220 is an easy A if you have any interest in government or have picked up a newspaper in the last year. Dr. Kreitzer is very nice and means well, but should probably not be employed. Midterms and Finals took forever to grade despite being very basic, expectations were confusing and not helpful, and I can confidently say I learned nothing.
