The material in this class is somewhat difficult but Prof. Stein does an excellent job at presenting it in clear, concise way and makes it extremely interesting!!! You do have to work but she is very fair in her grading and always open to questions.
one of my favorite teachers. she made the class very interesting. great films! fair teacher. I wish my other teachers were like her!
GReat lady, very helpfull...know the material and you'll pass.
she is not hard, gives notes in class, and test resembles them usually. grades fairly. easy A if you do your work, but must study for tests. she isnt the most interesting but doable.
getting c in class is easy just do hw get all points and u will get c, for better grade you have to study but class is not difficult, she gives about 20 points extra credit for going on trip to zoo, etc.
Ehhhhh...you gotta study to do good and do lots of homework to get an A. and whoever said shes hot is on crack
Very interesting and well presented. Not an easy class. Teacher excellent, easy to get along with, and helpful.
Requires you to read a book, I know a BOOK, but thats A LOT for a VALLEY COLLEGE CLASS!!! Tests, only gives study guides to first test and final, which is cumulative. But nice lady. Took her in winter, she missed an entire week of class, cause she was sick. Lectures are semi-intresting.
great teacher,take notes
Is a very hard class but I learned a lot in the class she is the coolest treacher out there gives out lots of exart credit.
Very good professor. Highly organized. Gives great energy in class. Very interesting lectures. Tests, (for me,) were easy if you studied. I HIGHLY recommend taking this instructor.
you do need to read an extra book (which is highly interesting) and you do need to pay attention in class. Do these things and an A is easy.
This professor is amazing. Her depth of knowledge and clarity of the subject is incredible. Don't take this class if you are looking for an easy A - she's no pushover!
Prof. Rebecca Stein is amazing!!! I did not do so well on the first 2 exams and she took time to sit down with me and review my notes. She made valuable suggestions and gave me alot of encouuragement. As a result of her advice, I made a B in the class. The lectures were interesting, she knows her stuff. She is the best!
Good teacher! Gives out a StudyGuide for the test! lectures are ok! if you have to take this class take it with her! extra credit available.
Rebecca's Da BOMB! I took 101 with Sue Engler, and while I liked her I really missed Rebecca's easy going ways, and clear lectures. I can't wait to take her food and culture class in the fall! Gonna make her gumbo, cher!
She is very interesting... You get to do a lot of group activities...
too much reading...stuff too harshly criticized.
Awesome teacher. just take notes do the study guide and read. You learn tons, test are easy. if you need help she's willing to help
she is really nice, but she makes the class really boring, and lectures are really to much long a lot to read but really interesting test are a little hard but a lot of extra credit work hard and probably you'll get an ez "B"
Professor Stein is awesome! First of all, she is a wonderful person, and extremely intelligent. Let's put it this way, if you are willing to help yourself, she's willing to help you. Definately take this class!
She is very interesting, and she's a great person. I didn't even open the book, and I got a B. Take notes, she gives a study guide for her tests. Definetly take her if you get the chance. I'm taking another class of hers in the fall.
The actual title of this class was Religion, Witchcraft and Magic... I think, I can't remember. She is a smart, smart, smart professor with great stories and wonderful insights into cultural relativism.
She's awesome! The class is super interesting and i think it's only been boring once in the entire semester. The book isn't hard to read and it's very helpful. Tests are easy and she gives study guides
She is an awesome teacher...the subject is really fun and you learn way more than you thought you would. There are a few VERY boring assignments to do but the exams are easy. Overall, an interesting class and an easy A.
Very interesting class.. She knows her stuff. Easy A if you do all the assignments (there aren't that many), and she drops your lowest test grade.
She is a great teacher. Super nice and very helpfull. Her assignments are easy and the book is interesting. I recommend you to take this class
Religion, Magic & Witchcraft. Unexpectedly, this turned out to be my favorite class this semester. Ms. Stein is a great teacher and her lectures are fun if you participate. If you sit there like a bump on a log, then yeah, it's going to be boring. So don't just sit there! I highly recommend this class.
One of the best teachers at Valley. Interested, funny, kind, and extremely knowledgable about her field. She hooked me on Anthropology and I may never forgive her for it LoL!
very interesting class. wonderfull teacher. lectures with clarity. the reading book (mama lola) was kinda boring.
One of the best at Valley, she really knows her subject. The class is easy if you attend it - the tests are straight out of the study guides that she gives us, and she goes through it while she lectures. 4 tests, plus final, which are all pretty easy if you study. A challenging class, but you'll learn a LOT. She's really helpful, too.
One of the worst classes I have ever taken. She doesn't care about her students what so ever. VERY boring class and I do not recommened it!
Good teacher, nice, helpful, seems a bit flustered at times but she's always in control of the class. Worth taking.
Prof. Stein is the BEST! If you think she doesnt care bout you, its probly cuz you put forth no effort at all. I got a B even though I totally did NOT deserve it. She's always available for help; explains very clearly; and even responds to email! If you MUST take anthro, take Prof. Stein -- you wont regret it!!
The best class I've taken at LAVC so far. Stein is a fantastic instructor who offers students easy-to-follow study guides and no surprises. The work load is not a walk in the park, but if you are dedicated and serious about your classwork there is no reason why you can't score top marks. I will be sure to take more courses with Stein.
She is a horrible teacher Please do not take any of the good ratings about her seriously. she is also a very bad teacher. Her father is the one grading the papers. You need to give good essay (it's an english class more than anthropology class). You will change your mind about anthro. if you take her.
very good teacher, reminds me of my russian teachers back at home, which means clearly explained&interesting class sessions and most importantly love for what she does. If you want to learn take her, for an easy pass looksomewhere else.
Extremely knowledgeable about the subject. A genius, actually. But the exams are really, really tough.
This is one teacher who knows her stuff. But don't be fooled by the Anthro online class. The exam is very tough, actually but the discussions are great. Her midterms and finals are so hard because of the time limit. Five essays in 1 hour! I had to drop...
I am not gonna lie its a hard class. But you can easily get an A. i did, just do the work, go to class, and take advantage of the SI. great teacher, really nice and helpful! Knows her stuff. It was kinda fun learning about all the things we did. Totally recommend this teacher!
I took the online class and the format made for quite a bit of work. There are readings, 1 discussion, 1quiz, & 1 assignment every week. The work builds up and some of the material could be better explained in class. It is an interesting class but should be taken as a regular one, and not online. I wish I had taken it in class. Use the tutoring lab
Prof. Stein really knows her stuff. She's very willing to help her students. The online class is not easy, as it is quite time consuming and the final/midterm requires you to know what you're talking about (because they're essays). I got an A, but it's not an easy A. You have to work for it all throughout the class, but it's definitely do-able.
She is very helpful and knowledgable in her area. her class is very interesting and she makes a great learning environment. She gives 4 tests(drops the lowest) and she gives a Final and about 1 or 2 essays. I got an "A." You have to study for them, and she gives you a study guide
Before I entered this class I thought it would be GREAT...Its not easy...Really have to listen and read the book or you will not pass. If there was another class teaching the same thing I would have taken someone else...
SHE WAS A NICE LADY...SHE KNOWS THE SUBJECT BECAUSE HER DAD WROTE THE TEXT BOOK...YOU HAVE TO WORK HARD AND YOU WILL PASS...
This class is not that easy that you might have expected like I did. This GE class took my more time than my Accounting and math class. DO NOT take the online class! She is great professor but so stingy on grading and making the tests that is why I didnt like her. Save your butt & avoid this class unless you are ready for the time consuming battle
interesting subject...don't like the way she teaches...it's not that hard if you do ALL the reading.
Took the online class, be prepared to work. alot of work, but I really enjoyed it, the topic, and Steins approach. May have enjoyed the inperson class more, but happy to recommend her. Worked my tail off for a B, but she will work with you.
need to read the chapters everytime she tells you. you can drop and exam and she gives you extra credit she also lets you redue your assignments for more points. i took her online.
need to read the chapters everytime she tells you. you can drop and exam and she gives you extra credit she also lets you redue your assignments for more points. i took her online.
Great teacher! Thorough, open minded and enthusiastic about the subject matter. Neat lady too - went to lunch with her a couple of times, extremely well read and fascinating to talk to on a muriad of subjects. I also took her Anthro 121...I'd keep taking her if she taught other sections. Come to class, read the material - boom - A+!
Ms. Stein is the best professor ever. Her class is hard but she is very helpfull and sweet. Must read the book and do all the assignments. Took most of my time but I learned a lot.
THE CLASS IS SO HARD!!!!!YOU SPEND MORE TIME ON THIS CLASS THAN ANY OTHER. . DO NOT take the online class! She is great professor but so stingy on grading and making the tests.THE ONLINE CLASS IS SO HARD HARD HARD. SO MUCH WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!ITS SO HARD, AND THE BOOK, GOOD LUCK...sHE IS SMART, BUT THE CLASS IS HARDCORE HARD
Very hard tests, and assignments. Her father is a professor, and he grades the essays. He also wrote the book. You really have to study alot, and do the work. A little unfair on things. The online class is hard. Don't let it fool you...
Prof. Stein is wonderful. Although I never met her (I took the online section of Anthro 101) she set up a very interesting and informative class. You will be reading and writing, and you will learn a lot. I thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from anthropology 101.
Such a hard class, be prepaired. Online classes are hard, especially this one. She is helpful, but the class is very hard, intense, and you do lot's of work. I worked my tail off, and still got a C in class. I worked so hard and studied, but still got a C. Test question are super hard. It's like a masters class, or getting your phd. im upset.
I took her on-line class, and OH MY GOODNESS! There was SO much reading. 500+ pages a week, no exaggeration! I would suggest taking this class on campus rather than on-line. She is a very good teacher and I learned a lot, however there is just WAY too much material for an online course! The book has lots of material a teacher explain in person IMO!
Thoroughly enjoyed this class! Her class made me wish I had doubled major in Anthropology. There seems to be a misconception that online classes are a cakewalk -- not this one! Expect tons of reading and papers to write. Discussions on the other hand were very interactive and intriguing. But rest assured, you'll learn a lot from this class.
EXTREMELY knowlegable! Wrote an anthro textbook! This lady knows her stuff. She presents info in a clear distinct way, and is direct about what will be on exams. Free tutoring is also offered. i would reccommend. :)
Good, solid, smart teacher... Everything a college class should be and yes, that means hard.
Wonderful teacher, very smart. The class is hard and there's a lot of work but she's reasonable and will help you along the way if you need it. I did get an A but I do like the subject matter and I worked hard.
This was probably the hardest online class I have ever taken, but it wasn't impossible. She's a very good professor, gets back to emails quickly and gives out extra credit. There is a lot of reading...but if I (a single mother) can do this and receive a good grade, anyone can.
I took this class on-line. It is an extremely difficult class. Lots of reading and the tests were difficult and now enough time was given. I enjoyed the discussions; extra credit and most of the material. Her grading is very strict. I missed an A by a couple of points -- she is tough.
ok let me tell you it was a hard class but professor was so willing to help i was shocked. i emailed her all my work and she told me what i need to do to improve my work. she is super awsome. i would take this class over in a heart beat!!!
Excellent teacher. Very smart, knows her stuff and she's nice! Gives plenty of help if you ask. Tests are only hard if you don't read and understand the material. Gives some extra credit assignments. Fantastic tutor (Kirsten) is extremely helpful. There is no reason to fail this class unless you don't do the work!
This professor may know her stuff, but she is boring. All she does is lecture. She is also a hard grader. She should ease up. She makes us do useless work and projects. I don't recommend this professor. Don't take her! The highest grade you can get is a C or B.
All I can say is she's a hard grader. This class is hard and she gives too much work to do.
Hard class and too much work!!! Even if you try, the highest grade you can get is a C or B-
Too much work and she grades hard. Don't take this class. It ain't easy. Even if you try, you will get a C or B-
No comment
Yes, you will work in this class. No, it's not too bad - if you aren't afraid to talk to her. You do have to juggle reading the book, lectures, and online material. If you really want to learn the subject matter, she's the one to take! If you just need the class for credit, look elsewhere! Good class if you'd like to see how UCLA classes are!
Excellent professor, but you will have to work. She and her father wrote the book together, so the lectures follow it pretty closely. you still do need to attend class because she gives lots of cultural examples then (which you will need for the exams). Don't be afraid to ask her questions, it's the only way you'll really learn! She doesn't bite :)
She is a good prof. but she is a tough prof. The test are hard even though you read the book!!!! Last time i checked i was attending valley college, not UCLA!
This is a hard class. you dont know what to expect from the exams. hard grader. you have to attend a ritual. prof stein is not helpful at all. she has favorites in the class and the exams are based on the book. she doesnt give out study guides so you basically have to read the whole book to be prepared for it.
She is so kind and helpful, and yes, it is a hard class, but you just have to learn what and how to study. This class gives you a look at what you'll expect to see in the University level setting. Ask questions, do the homework, time manage and you'll be okay!
Dont take this class. its not worth all the stress. you have to choose a place to attend a ritual. there essays on every exam. she doesnt go over the test..
This is a hard class. Its not UCLA prof stain. too much stress deciding which ritual you can attend. tests are hard and theres two esays.
Prof stain is a hard grader. Don't take her class, too much stress deciding on which ritual you wanna attend. No extra credit, no homework, only 4 exams and two projects. Exams have an essay part and you do the reading on your own. In class we only take notes and watch videos of random rituals.
prof stein is okay. even though her class is really boring. she wrote the book we use so she hardly ever goes over it in class. her videos are long and sometimes with no audio. you have to write notes all period, everyone talks at the same time so its hard to catch anything. she tries to be funny but prof stein youre not that funny...
this class is pretty tough. exams are hard and u dont really know what to study, just have to read and wonder whats going to be on the exams.there's 2 essay questions on every exam and the final is really hard...
prof stain just got tired of teaching. she's just strict now and makes her class a challenge. you have to devote a lot of time to it as if it were your only class. sucks!
This is a college level course, not high school. She teaches the same way universities teach. Very nice and helpful, but you have to ask for the help. You do have to study. Tests are from her notes and the book. You have to read and take notes! The tests are not hard if you study! You will do well if you study!
I liked this professor so much I took her for this class and 101. She is very intelligent and knows her stuff. Very nice and helpful, if you ask. This class was very interesting and not hard if you study! This is not a high school class, it's college so stop whining! She lets you pick the ritual you want to observe. Take notes!
If you dont pass, it is your fault. this professor is soo easy and helpful. the labs are worth 50 points and so are the tests, which means you can do badly on the test and just do well on the labs and you will pass. She is helpful whenever you need her.
I took the online course, even though it was hard and challenging. the professor provided ample amount of help. I learned a tremendous amount of information. She was very considerate to the fact that I was deployed to a war zone. greatly recommended!
Took Culture, Illness & Healing online. Professor Stein is very clear & organized. Standard college workload; two books and various articles, ethnographies, etc, to read. 3 essay assignments comprised of 10 essay questions each, based on the two books. Discussions based on lectures and readings. If you're not lazy & want to learn, take Prof. Stein!
This class was hard. you need to read on your own, goes off topic sometimes. every test there's two essay questions. she seemed nice but wasn't very helpful.
Prof. Stein is so awesome! I found this class to be so interesting! take notes! read the book and participate! she is really nice always e-mails back so helpful and funny! if your considering taking her class for anthro 121 DO IT!!!!
You'll have to read her textbook. The online class was fairly interesting with a research paper and project. I enjoyed the class even though I wasn't too interested in Anthroplogy. Professor Stein was helpful though and responded to emails and questions quickly.
Do not take this class online. She is very hard teacher. You have to read 2 very boring and long books which both have exams. Also, you have to read every week modules that have never ending articles that you have read with discussion forms. I have never read such boring books in my life until this Prof assigned me with these 2 books.
Anthropology 121: Anthropology of Magic, Witchcraft and Religion. Great class. A lot of fun. - The professor is enthusiastic about what she does and put a lot into the course. I had a lot of fun and would like to take it again. She is easy but you have to put in a full work load. Do what she says and you will be alright. I still put in extra tho.
don't believe in the previous comments. They are sent by the teacher to make her look good. She is a very hard grader. she makes you read so much that you go crazy. you have no choice but to read because she gives never ending quizzes and exams that have 3 essays questions. she is a waste of time.
College level course! Show up to class, read, take notes. She is very helpful if you as for her help. Doesn't give study guide for tests, but they aren't difficult. She and her father wrote the textbook, so she knows her stuff! Some of the lectures were interesting, but most of her discussions with the class were boring.
Though the reading material was a bit dry in parts, I have retained the knowledge I received in her online class to this day. This is university-level coursework, and her expectations and standards are high. Don't slack off, but expect to learn a lot from someone who is passionate about the field of anthropology.
Great professor. Her lectures are interesting (she can be pretty funny), there isn't a heavy workload, and her tests are based on what we covered. She's very clear with her lectures, her grading is fair, and she's really helpful if you ask. As long as you do the work, pay attention, and take good notes, then you'll easily pass the class.
I don't understand why people come to rate my professor to rant an endless amount about a teacher who is SO easy to pass. I am writing this and I am about to take her online. She is awesome. THIS IS ANTHROPOLOGY THAT HAS TO DO WITH WITCHCRAFT, RELIGIONS, CULTURES. UMMM THATS PRETTY EASY. DO NOT WRITE A REVIEW ON A PROFESSOR YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN!.
Professor Stein is by far one of the BEST Professors at LAVC. She really cares about her students and is passionate about what she teaches so this course is as easy as it comes.
Prof. Stein is great, I'm surprised to see that people did not find this class easy. There are two long-ish ethnographies, but I found them both to be really interesting. Instead of painful papers on them, she has you answer a series of questions with short essays 1-2 paragraphs- which I think is awesome. Take part in all discussions.
Got an A in the class. Put in the work with discussions it isn't much but you just have to make sure you don't fall behind, pretty simple course syllabus, open book multiple choice tests straight forward from modules/book. End of semester ritual project. You'll breeze by toward the end of the semester. Definitely a good choice.
Her lectures are very clear. When I had her class she was trying out not having a textbook so all of the lectures were also found online, because of this many people didn't show for class. BIG MISTAKE it helps so much to go and if you ask questions and show an interest she will reciprocate and help you if you're struggling. Not easy but worth it.
Professor Stein's online Anthro121 was great. Her class is very clear. Every week you read a module and participate in a discussion to earn points. The class discussions & test can be a bit confusing if you don't read the book, so the book is needed. Overall, great class, very clear professor.
Professor Stein is one of my favorite professors. Professor Stein's class was interesting and fun. She is very organized and really wants her students to understand the material. The tests were not too hard. There were also 3 papers. She gives extra credit as well. I would highly recommend this professor. She's honestly amazing!
always available for students in and out of class. head of the department for a reason SHE'S AMAZING. extremely knowledgeable. You will thank yourself after you take her class. I took her class a year ago and just had to come back and rate it. I can't say enough good things about her!! You should read the text and study. BEST B I EVER GOT
Anthro 121 online. I loved her class and learned a lot. She is very clear with everything, replies fast her emails. You have to read textbook and modules to pass quizzes. However, final exam was not as hard as I expected. There is 1 paper to write: you have to attend a religious ceremony and describe it - pretty interesting. Highly recommend her.
I don't remember much about the class but she makes you get her own book which is pretty useless. Her book is scattered and it's a scam. Her class was somewhat simple, I believe a good majority of the answers are online. Her final project is a waste of time, attend a ritual and write about it. You can bs it like I did and get an A in the class.
Anth 121 was a very interesting class. The book is short. Mostly discussions every week, tests are not hard, and there is one paper due about attending a religious ceremony. If at all possible, I would recommend that you work really hard on finding something other than a regular church service. Make it interesting for yourself.
Professor Stein is AMAZING! Both of her classes Anthro 101 and 121 are AWESOME! She'll always help you if you ask, gives a lot of extra credit. But you need to make sure YOU also put an effort. DO the homework & STUDY hard if you want a good grade. Be respectful in class ( just like in any other class) & do your duty as a student. Stein is THE BEST
Good class, very transparent grading. Post discussions on time, read material and turn in work at the end of the week. No reason not to get a solid grade. She is accessible if you do have issues or questions. If you put in the work you'll get the grade .
I took online late start semester. replays quickly to emails. quizzes are hard. 25 questions in 1 hour. it took her a week to grade each assignment. ritual project was ok. I did everything she asked, followed instructions and got full credit for every assignment (except the quizzes) final was 2 essays + 39 q
Professor Stein is the coolest! she was recommended by a friend of mines, said the class would be easy which turned out to be not so easy. Anthro is very interesting! You do read a lot of articles online and write more than three papers but they aren't long there about two pages. Test do have essay questions but aren't that tough. Very helpful!
Amazing professor she enjoys here work and teaching, reading the book is important as she does not fully go some terms but tells you exactly what she wants on the test. Attendance is important as she assigns class work everyday that can not be made up. Very caring if you get a bad grade on a paper and talk to her she'll let you rewrite it.
Loved this class! Lots of content, so read the chapters, follow her study guide, participate in the discussions and you will be fine! I learned a lot, but I did do all the work and I read the chapters over for the tests. Great class!
she's a okay teacher, I'm not saying she's bad either . I get a lot of people get A+! But to be fair , she's not the best teacher either! there are better anthropology teacher's at Los Angeles valley college . I just recommend a better teacher then her .
Anthro 101 was great with her online. Easy course if you follow directions and complete your assignments. She is very knowledgeable and knows what she is doing.
Test is heavy and impossible to look up online. If this online class is toward your General Education, take something else. It's gonna be a headache if Anthro is not your major.
I you like to take a class along with your important classes and you think this class is going to be a piece of cake, you are mistaking. This is one of the most time consuming online classes I have ever taken. Take something else for your electives. She grades you very strictly. Oh and she makes you buy her own textbook if you know what I'm saying.
There is a lot to read! It's impossible to find answers online or even in the textbook (which was written by her btw). She is a pretty tough grader and not really a great teacher. Really boring class even though it should be pretty interesting. I suggest another professor because I feel like I'm an anthro major w/o a clue. LONG/hard discussions.
Hard quizzes. Not recommended.
So this professor makes you read as much or even more as an English class. Also since it seems she is the writer of the text books she requires she asked for the new edition so i had to spend extra money on books. This woman has no idea what bullet points are only full paragraphs on the modules and assigns 1-2 chapters from the book every week.
Read the entire book in the 8 week period. About 2 chapters per week plus modules about 12 pgs. each. Quiz every other week + discussion deducts pts if 3 post are on same day 1 paper/1 final multiple choice & essay timed. Do not rely on extra credit she only offers 0.1 points and its a short essay no rounding up either.
I took her class in Sprint '17(in class), She is an anthro teacher, so this class is info heavy. She would show a lot powerpoints she has literally seen many diffrenet cultures throughout the world, pics are in powerpoints to so it is interactive. Grade was based off a couple of tests, so read chapters she outlines, you'll be ok.
Pretty easy class. As long as you pay attention and do your work you will be fine. She is a reasonable professor to work with and is understanding and easy to talk to. She is a nice energy to be around
The worst professor ever! Since she is the writer of the textbooks she makes you to purchase them. Do jot recommend.
Her online class was difficult for no reason. Assignments are due Sunday but she will mark you points off if you submit on Sunday which makes no sense because it is due that day. You have ritual assignment which is fun but time consuming. Her quizzes are difficult for no reason and most of the information isn't in the textbook or modules.
Professor Stein is very knowledgeable of the subject matter, and you MUST read the book and the lecture. You are graded for every assignment to the effort you put into, including discussions. This class isn't hard, you need to study and stay on top of your work to be successful. She is prompt on replying to questions.. Highly Recommended.
Professor Stein does a fantastic job. She is knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter. She wants students to succeed and is willing to accommodate issues that pop up. Her passion comes through in the modules. On the downside, there is little graded work. One bad assignment can tank your grade so put the work in!
I really enjoyed my time with Professor Stein during the short 8-week semester this Fall for Anthropology 121. She puts a lot of effort into responding to every single discussion post, and she is absolutely committed to ensuring the final work you submit meets the criteria for an A. She's engaged, she's dynamic, and gives great feedback! Amazing
No lectures. Assigned reading from the textbook and other links she puts in the modules. Reading, Discussions, Term Paper, 4 Exams. SO MUCH READING. Look, some stuff was cool. I think this is more of an in person or live/prerecorded lecture course. No personal experiences. She uses her own textbook. Not exciting. SAVE YOUR MONEY. Learn on your own.
There's a lot of reading material in both the book and the Canvas lectures. That being said, all of her quizzes were taken directly from her book and were open book. She avoided putting her own perspective and biases into the class, presenting the information in a fair way. Do the work to the best of your ability and you'll pass. Plus it's fun!
Do NOT take this class. There's a lot of readings, quizzes, and discussions. Now don't get me wrong usually discussions are pretty easy in a normal class. Professor Stein doesn't let you have your own opinion. She also wants you to use outside sources and cite them but still does NOT agree with them. Please save yourself the headache.
Anthro. 121 has been one of my favorite classes at LAVC! Professor Stein makes the content easy to understand. A lot of reading and the quizzes require written responses, not just multiple choice, but if you're engaged with the class it's easy to pass. She also gives one week extension for all assignments without any penalty. Would recommend!
I did the 8 week class. Lots of discussions and some quizzes, but just read the Canva modules and you'll be fine. It literally explains everything there. The quizzes and discussions weren't even that hard. The one research paper also was fine because I chose a topic I liked. Just lock in for 1-2 days/week and you're good.
The professor has no clear instructions on how to respond. There is no actual lecture; it is a series of modules with copy-paste material, a bunch of videos, and additional "optional" videos and readings. She grades you down because she wants you to respond to her, weeks after the due date.
She's super nice, but the workload is a lot. Grading is strict, especially for discussions where you need very thoughtful peer replies to get full points. The quizzes are the most draining part because of how much typing they require. She's kind and clear, but the sheer volume of work is a deal breaker. I wouldn't take her class again.
