I found her to be very nice and easy to talk to. She was always willing to answer questions. Her tests were half book and half lecture. There was no homework, just fun demonstrations.
Sweetness is her middle name. Very approachable and knowledgable. Not like other professors with the huge egos. Keep up with the work flow and this class isn't too bad.
She is nice, but needs to be more authoritative. She talks too softly to be heard. She needs to tell rude people talking during her lecture to be quiet or leave. Group work is common in her classes.
Very smart and very nice, uses a lot of class demonstrations.
pretty easy to understand
Best psych professor I've had so far. Very helpful, will let you re- do papers, clear on what she wants on the test. what makes her easy is that she is straight forward and even silly at times
Get ready to learn PSY! You will have to read for this class and take good note. Down side is working in groups. Don't let a few people do all the work. Get into PSY. Her test are hard, but she makes up for them with your papers.
Very nice lady. However, she doesn't prepare you for psy251. Easy class. We spent most of our time in groups. She gives you all semester to write one paper.
Very nice teacher always willing to help you and answer questions!! Her tests are hard but if you come to class take notes and read the book you should be ok. She give you a review of everything on the exam!!! Bad thing is the group projects. Thier not horrible i just dont like them! SHes nice!!
she is so good a teaching this class and so helpfull she even gives you her home phone #. TAKE HER WHEN EVER !!!!
She is such a nice person and even though the material is boring, she manages to make it interesting. Her tests aren't that hard because she gives you a study guide. The paper is easy because it is just summarizing. I hate groupwork, but in this class I actually have fun with it. Take her class!
great professor take her
Very nice teacher. Gives study guide for each exam. Very approachable. Gives a group project cover about half the semester, but is a piece of cake.
Very good teacher.I've taken two of her courses. She makes information very easy to understand. Recommended
Such a nice teacher! I had her for a night class but she barely made us stay the whole time. Pay attention in class and u will do fine!
Attend class and read the book. Her exams can be difficult and she grades rather critically. Other than that, she is really nice and CAN be helpful. Definitally have her proofread your papers before you turn them in!
She is an awesome teacher. She is so nice and she really cares about her students. For this class there are 3 tests and offers a few extra credit oppertunities. I would highly reccomend her to any student.
She is a great teacher. Helps out a ton and is very accomodating if you work and attend school.
Such a sweet professor! Very helpful with explaining material and works with her students schedules. Would definitely take again!
Great Professor! Easy to understand and tests are not to bad as long as you study. I recomend her to anyone.
Excellent professor. If you just go to the lecture and go over your notes you'll do fine. You don't even need to read the book!, her tests are based on her lectures but still get it anyway because it is helpful for studying from the test review sheets she gives you
She's awesome! You need to take her because she offers a ton of extra credit and she's easy to understand. The material itself can be hard though so ask questions and pay attention and read. Study the material because the second test was a bit difficult.
Material is soooo boring, but she makes the class tolerable, study guides for tests make them easy and two easy papers and a couple easy assignments made this class manageable for a non psych major.
This class is hard no matter what professor you have. She makes it a little better because she is so passionate about the material. She is willing to help you anytime, but the TA was totally useless. It is a hard class but easy if you study. She gives you a lot of extra credit oppurtunities up to 8% added to your final grade.
First the TA, he's just awesome. He will check your papers and review for tests with you. Malatesta could not have taught this class any better. This class has a tendency to be hard for most but if you study hard for it, this class is not impossible to pass. I ended up with a 4.0 but I worked my butt off.
Hard class no matter what, but great teacher. Try to get a class that meets more than once a week because the material is sooooo boring that it's hard to sit through it for 3 hours at a time.
she is very fair and gives x-credit opportunities. you can do well with little effort. she is a good person too.
Class sucks but she is pretty cool. If you gotta do it then pick her. Tests are not that bad, but she is kind of picky on her papers, just give her what she wants and you'll be fine.
The material itself was easy but she didn't present it in a very clear manner. Gives out a ton of extra credit and she is a very nice person.
great!
She is a great teacher! For anyone who took Purcell's 250 class and failed (which many, many people do!)-this professor is a much better teacher and actually CARES about how you do in the class.
She is very tough on papers, but will let you submit it early for feedback. I found it necessary to read the book because her lectures do not cover all of the material on the tests. Very hard class. I am an A student and I have an 85%.
She makes the material very easy to comprehend and often uses group work to enhance understanding. Her tests are all multiple choice, and she gives out plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Let me set it straight. She is hot, she is also a sweetheart and very funny! HOWEVER, if you take her for 235 you are ok-she is great, but for 251 she is unorganized and hard to follow. Most of the people in my class didn't learn a thing from her lectures and the book doesn't help much either.
Dr. Malatesta is the greatest. She is not too demanding and her lectures are interesting and fun. She is very modern and current.
I highly recommend her for 250. She is very helpful and teaches APA style. We had 2 papers and a few exams. She also gave extra credit assignments. Go to class, work hard on the group papers, and study the book and you'll do great!
Excellent Professor! Does a good job explaining everything and is very clear on what she expects out of you in her class. Lets you work in groups on the two papers. Also gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities. The material itself is no fun but she finds ways of teaching it that make it better
I took her over the spring semester. She is very good and I will try and take her again for more psychology classes. I will recommend to others!!
Wonderful professor. She teaches with enthusiasm and explains everything to the fullest extent. She gives a ton of extra credit throughout the semester and is available by phone or office hours whenever you need it. I would recommend her to anyone taking the psych 250-251 classes!
Malatesta is a very sweet, fun and hip professor. She is very smart and enthusiastic, though I wouldn't take her for 250 again as she seemed a little unorganized and hard to follow. I took her for Social Psy and she was GREAT!!! Take her for Social Psy only!
Solid Prof, straightforward requirements. Plenty of E.C. Good class, not great. Study her guides and you will be fine. Oh, and SMOKIN
Very helpful professor. She wants you to succeed and understand the material, plenty of E.C., laid back and understanding. Sometimes seems disorganized but will definitely take her classes again.
Great professor, I enjoyed attending her class the most this past semester and learned a lot. She gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit, the exams are fair as long as you study the notes from class and follow her study guides. I highly recommend her!
Awesome Professor! Made the class interesting. One of those teachers who actually teach you what you need to know in clear language...no beating around the bush. Give study guides that are excellent, but know the material because she gives "apply your knowledge" type tests. Overall, super awesome professor! Would take her again in a heartbeat!
She is always willing to help the students. She is very funny and also a very warm teacher to approach. She clearly explains the material & will try to help you to understand anything if it's unclear. She's a reasonable grader and actually gets to know her students. I would definitely recommend taking her for Psych 250.
SHE IS SOOOOOOOO NICE amazing teacher :) the work isnt extremely easy but she makes it understandable
Very clear, very helpful, very nice, very good class. You will like Professor Malatesta. I will be taking another class with her in the near future.
I had her for PSY 235 & 250. She's straightforward and very fair in her lectures and exams. I wish she taught more classes so I could take her again.
She is extremely nice, fair and approachable. I highly recommend her. I had her for 235 and 250. I would take all psych classes with her if she taught them. grades fairly. presents info clearly and concisely.
She is a great professor, very nice, helpful, and funny. She gives a lot of examples to make sure her students understand the concepts. The projects and homework can be difficult and time consuming but all of it helps you understand the material better. I have taken her for 235 and 250, would definately take her again if I could. Highly Recommend!
She's brilliant and gives you everything you need to get an amazing grade, even if you feel that you haven't done well, your grades turn out well! She's really fair and approachable and always tries her best ti answer the questions you have and make sure you understand what she is trying to explain - her use of examples in class are very useful!
SHE'S AMAZINGGGG! I LOVE HER. TAKE HER!!!!
Textbook suggested but not used; everything you need to know is in notes posted online. Gives chances for extra credit. 2 tests and final, so apart from a couple points ec you cant really improve your grade if you bomb one test. She explains one concept a million ways. Approachable but confusing.
Prof. Malatesta is a nice professor who wants to see students succeed. Attend lecture, takes notes, and study for the tests and you will do fine. She doesn't require attendance so it is up to you to stay motivated and attend class. If you don't attend class, you will do poorly in the class.
Relaxed atmosphere. Attendance not mandatory. Text and notes both helpful. Tricky class so pay attention but overall is take her class again for sure
Wish wish wish she took more classes! I've had her for 250 and will be taking her for 235! So approachable, fair grader, helps with papers, reviewed my paper 7 times to the extent that I got 100% for the paper! One of the nicest people/professors I've met and she remembers her students! If you have a tough semester, like sickness, she's so helpful!
I LOVE HER...SHE'S VERY NICE AND APPROACHABLE AND SHE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP...THIS WAS A TOUGH CLASS BUT SHE WAS ALWAYS GIVING EXTRA CREDIT AND ALSO WILLING TO SIT DOWN WITH U IF U DIDN'T GET SOMETHING...HER TEACHING STYLES COULD B A LIL CONFUSING AT TIME BUT I DEF RECOMMEND HER!
Super approachable and was very clear in the content studied. Do the reading and go to class and there's no reason to not do well in this class.
I like her as a person a lot, ut she runs through the content too fast. SHe doesnt put very many notes on her powerpoints and if you are a person that likes to take notes, she talks to quickly to write them down. I think the content of the class is easy but her tests are trickily worded.
Very approachable! Her powerpoints are not detailed enough, so reading the book will assist you alot! The workload is managable and test are easy, as long as you study! This is my second course with Professor Malatesta and I enjoyed both of the classes. Lectures may be a bit boring, but overall she's a good instructor.
She is very approachable and very helpful. She offers to review the papers you have to write and tells you corrections you need to make before turning in the final. She also gave plenty of time and directions for the papers. Great teacher and nice person, lectures a little dry but overall shes good!
Phenomenal teacher
she is wonderful! She is willing to help and go over anything that is unclear. Two papers and three exams. She turns all the hw into Extra Credit. Allowed to work in groups or independently on most things. She is very sweet and cares about students' grades. Gives exam reviews, study a little bit and you'll do fine.
She was so helpful throughout the semester. She gives extra credit, her study guides were always an advantage. We only had 2 papers for hw, but it was in the beginning so that was out of the way quickly. Don't skip her lectures. Her notes are good, but use the book too. That way you'll really understand the material. Overall, great professor :)
I had professor Malatesta for both 235 and 251. She gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit and is available for help if you need it. Attendance isn't mandatory but you do need to go to class in order to keep up. Great instructor.
I took her for PSY 235 and 250. Shes a really nice lady, BUT her teaching is not all that great. She often mumbles when she talks and doesn't give you time to write down notes. She does offer a lot of extra credit which is a plus but her tests are hard.
Had 235. Wasn't too bad besides the fact that her tests were hard.
Had her for PSY 251 and 235. She is a really nice lady but her class is not that easy. The tests are hard although she does offer a good amount of extra credit. Better prof for 235.
This IS the prof you want for this class, she takes otherwise boring material and makes it interesting. 3 exams and 2 papers, plenty of EC. She is clear and concise, plus fair and equitable. This course covers A LOT of content, but she makes it all come together.
Very nice teacher. She keeps the class interesting and very good about helping students out.
What a wonderful professor. So kind and approachable, always willing to help her students out. I looked forward to coming to class every day. I would definitely recommend taking a class with her. Textbook is useful but not completely necessary, as long as you attend class every day.
She is the best professor I've had so far. She doesn't rush the material and the exams are easy if you go over her reviews. Her activities are fun and helpful, and she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. I am taking PSY 250 with her next semester!
Not one of the best professors I have had nor one of the worse. Exam's were on the harder side.... Make sure you ask questions and read the book!
I don't really recommend this professor. Her exams were hard. Although she did offer extra credit, my grade still seemed low. Don't really recommend this professor for psy 250.
Wasn't one of the best psych professors out there. The class is hard no matter who you have, but she is pretty helpful.
Great professor. Very approachable. She makes it very clear what you need to know for her exams. Writing the papers may be a bit tricky, but she's very willing to read over your paper and help you revise it. She genuinely wants her students to master the material. I would highly recommend her!
Love this prof. She will spend a weeks worth of classes to make sure you understand one concept, which is helpful since the material is pretty difficult and dry at times. Activities keep things interesting and her exams are not difficult if you attend class and go over the reviews. Take advantage of the extra credit, which she is constantly giving!
Class is fast paced, and note taking is a must-however, she gives very little time to copy down notes from the power point, so I suggest printing off the power points before you arrive to class. Some extra credit, but deadlines are not clear. Not many tests so you must study and do well on the ones given. Okay class-not easy.
She's great! Very helpful with the material and makes it interesting for the class. She really cares about her students and is always there to help people before, after, during or outside of class. Offers a generous amount of extra credit.
Helpful, engaging, generous, and fair all around, she is a fantastic professor. Her behavior and in class activities motivate students to try, and she is very enthusiastic. Her willingness to help is exemplary and she made an otherwise dry class fairly interesting. I would definitely recommend her.
Great professor! I highly recommend her for psych 250. she is very kind and very helpful. she cares about her students and tries to help, plus gives out extra credit. She gives out study guides that prepares you for her exams. There were students in my class that had to retake psych and they passed her class b/c she explained everything in detail.
My favorite professor at Oakland University.
Honestly one of the best Profs I've ever had the pleasure of learning from.
Dr. Malatesta is a fantastic professor! Her interest in the subject matter was evident and she was extremely helpful in providing real-life examples. If you ever get the chance, take one of her classes!
This Professor was the best I have ever had, she really made me feel confident and was always willing to help her students out. She wanted her students to do well, I liked that she was always available.
Make sure you read the chapters and take the practice quizzes. The lectures can be a little bit confusing, but she is always happy to answer any questions. Very approachable and sincere. If you put in the work, you should do well in this class.
The best professor I've had at OU to date. Her lectures are easy to follow and she's very knowledgeable about the topics she teaches. She's very clear about what will be on exams and offers more extra credit than any student would ever need. The book really isn't necessary, as she uploads lecture slideshows online as well as detailed study guides.
By far the best professor I have had at OU! She is super laid back and easy to get along with. She loves to help her students. Although she talks super fast during her lectures she does not mind answering your questions. If you attend her class you will do fine because her tests are kinda difficult so you have to study off her notes and study guide
Prof. Malatesta is very laid back. You do have opportunities for extra credit. I barely used my book, however, you will need it if you want that A. Her lectures were good, but I always felt confused on exactly what she wanted, but she's very approachable if you want to ask her though.
She's really nice and easy to talk to you. Gives a lot of extra credit. If you go to class and take notes exams are not hard. We had to write two papers. She gave them back and we got to fix them for a better grade. Would definitely take her again!
She is a really good professor. She expects a lot from you but it's only to help you in the future. Gives a lot of EC if you need it. Doesn't have too long lecture so it's best to take good notes and know it inside out. Papers are easy if you have a good group. You can revise it for more points. Great professor not the easiest class at OU.
I took Psych research design with professor Malatesta, and I would not take that class with anyone else. The subject matter is extremely boring and uninteresting, but she makes it a little better. She offers a bunch of extra credit, but you have to be in class to get it. Her tests are pretty rough, so study hard from her notes. Do not buy the book!
Malatesta is the BEST psych teacher at oakland. She makes everything easy to understand and actually cares about her students. I would recommend her to every psych student.
Malatesta is awesome and while she does give extra credit and let you try to argue about exam questions that you feel are unfair there is little reason to try. She's extremely approachable and gives you study guides. She literally inspired me into becoming a psychologist instead of going into the medical field.
Favorite Professor at OU! very laid back and always willing to help the students out if they need it. take her classes if you get the chance
Going to class is a must but it is terribly boring and dry material. Class consists of 2 exams, a cumulative final, intro paper and a method paper. Very scattered and unorganized with due dates constantly being moved. Hard to tell what exactly she wants from you on papers. Teaching skills poor, power points have no content, talks fast, mumbles.
She is very understanding and willing to work with you. The lectures can get a little boring but definitely go because she goes into a deeper explanation which helps for the exams. The exams are a little challenging (application questions) but study hard you'll do fine. She offers quite of bit of extra credit. I recommend her! Don't buy the book
Professor Malatesta was a great, competent teacher who knew the course material really well. She was monotonous in her lectures, which was torture, but that may have been because of the 8 A.M. class time. She gave a lot of extra credit opportunities and it was a easy course. I barely showed up the second half of the semester but aced the tests.
As with any psych course, the exams are rough. However, all of the homework is extra credit. There are two pretty difficult papers, but she lets you submit revisions for a better grade. Her lectures are great, and she was a really nice and interesting teacher.
Listen to the lectures and take notes from what she says. She cares about her students and loves what she does! Listen to her, take notes, attend class, and you will get a great grade.
Malatesta is a good professor and is clear on what she expects from you. The nature of the class itself is confusing and you can get lost easily, but she is eager and willing to answer questions. She is a generous giver of extra credit! Take notes and follow the study guide. The tests are based on her lecture notes, so you will be fine.
This is one of the best professors that I have had. She is very helpful and will clear up and confusion with good examples. Highly recommend!!
Malatesta is great. She knows her stuff, she is flexible if you need her to be, she gives clear feedback, she prepares you for tests, and they aren't terrible. I only wish I could take her again. If you're interested in the class, it's easy, otherwise you just study a little and still do well. All in all four exams and four easy assignments
Really approchable and willing to help
Malatesta takes the time to explain concepts that may be foreign to the typical PSYCH major. Her Industrial/Organizational class does throw some concepts at you that require some reading up on. Have the book as a reference. Study for the tests, print her powerpoints, take notes on those and you'll pass with ease. Ask questions & expect a little hw.
Dr. Malatesta is great. The class material can be a little dry and hard to comprehend at first, but she's clear in her explanations and encourages you to ask questions or email/call/text her for any help. The class consists of 2 easy exams, a final, and 2 difficult paper that she lets you submit multiple times and correct! Offers extra credit, too.
This professor was by far the best professor I've ever taken. Not only is she very caring and is very passionate about what she does but she's willing do to whatever she can to help you out. Come to class and you'll do great. She knows her material, and would definitely take her again.
She is very fair and offers lots of extra credit. Easy to learn from. I definitely recommend showing up to class; the textbook is extremely boring, but she covers the test material in her lectures.
Statistics for Psychology (PSY251) is a difficult class, and you should expect a substantial amount of work. But, having Professor Malatesta makes it better. She is more than fair with her grading, and she is always available if you need help. She is organized and keeps lectures to the point. I would definitely take another class taught by her.
Very sweet professor. I enjoyed taking her class, even though I wasn't really interested in the subject. There's two exams and two group papers, and that's most of your grade. She offers a ton of extra credit and is really open to answering questions and making sure everyone understands things before she moves on.
I had her for psy250 and she is really nice and offers extra credit, a lot of it but her tests were SO HARD! exam 1 is easy but exam 2 is VERY DIFFICULT and very applied, and final was cumulative. the subject it self was hard but her tests were very hard too!! also there is 2 group papers that are hard as well. I wouldn't take her again.
Okay So i really liked her until I took my final. My experience was not normal so I want to be fair. she is a good teacher and fair for the most part. seems a little unorganized but thats ok.
She was one of my favorite professors. The class was kinda difficult, but if you talk to her then you should be able to do just fine. Attendance wasn't required, but I showed up everyday because her lectures are the only reason people passed. She was so nice and hilarious. You do group projects, but if you have a good group you'll be just fine.
While attendance isn't mandatory, I would recommend missing very few classes. She often handed out extra credit in class and went over her powerpoints in depth during class. The exams were of average difficulty and very manageable if you go to class. She was very kind and approachable and always willing to help outside of class.
Dr. Malatesta is a great professor. This course had 2 exams, 1 cumulative final, and an Intro and Method paper. Rough drafts could be turned in for the papers, & returned with valuable feedback. A generous amount of extra credit given. Very approachable, clear, and willing to help. Prereading chapters, attending class, and asking questions is key.
I was really nervous to take a stats class because math normally isn't my strong suit. But she was awesome. She treated every question like it was a great one to ask, and was always super helpful outside of class too. I ended up doing really well in the class and most of it was because of her. If you have to take a stats class take it with her.
Incredibly disorganized and horrible at lecturing. The class itself is pretty easy, but I wouldn't recommend her to anyone! She does offer a fair amount of extra credit though.
Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs.
Do not take her for research design. Does not respond to students in a timely matter. For example, students ask on the question & answer board when an assignment is due days before it is due and she will not respond until after it was already due. PowerPoints are literally a joke. Read and memorize the book. 2 papers graded very hard. Avoid.
I took psychology 1000 for general credit and was the most difficult course I have ever taken in my life. Her lectures are not clear and are very vague and her tests are extremely hard. The course material is not difficult but her teaching style makes it so. Be prepared to do reading for all of this class because her PowerPoints are not helpful.
This class was very difficult and her lectures did not help at all. Her powerpoint are a joke, in order to succeed you must read the textbook and take your own notes. Her extra credit is also a joke, she adds it to your exam, not your grade so it will not help your grade much at all! maybe 1% at most, don't let her fool you.
I'm unsure where these negative feedback are coming from, Professor M was great when I had her for Research Design! She made herself very available via email and even text, and always approached questions with guidance in mind rather than ready to ridicule. Overall great!
Prof Malatesta is a super nice lady who is funny and tries to keep the class fun for her students. Her lectures and powerpoints are not that helpful so I would definitely use the textbook but she gives a ton of extra credit and wants all of her students to do well. Super approachable and would definitely take again if I had the chance.
Dr. Malatesta knew she was teaching a hard course and came fully prepared to be constantly asked questions. She was a great professor and was very funny and knowledgeable about her subject. The book was recommended but not required. Her lectures were enough to help prepare you for the exams. I would not recommend skipping class.
Amazing teacher. There are very rare teachers that show they care about their students and their grades and she is one of them. She wants everyone to do good in her class. She gives a lot of extra credit and makes you feel very comfortable. I wish I could take her again.
Rebecca was one of the most amazing profs I have ever had! She is easy to talk to, caring, and wants to see every one of her students pass. Her lectures were always helpful and her icliker quizzes. She had great PowerPoints and her funny personality and examples help to make class fun. DEFINITELY recommend her for physc!
She is the best professor I have ever had in my life. Shes so caring and really cares about her students. She offers a lot of extra credit but she makes you work for an A. Shes very understanding and really wants you to visit her office hours if you need help. Nothing negative to say about her.
Professor Malatesta was so sweet and caring for my intro to psych class. she is always free to help students outside of class and really cares about her students.
Dr. Malatesta is one of the best if not the best professor I I have ever had here at OU. Tons of extra credit, exams are straight forward and she really cares. 100% would take again
I loved this professor! She offers tons of extra credit, tests are fairly easy if you study. I barley went to class(doesnt take attendance)and did good with learning the lecture slides. Theres also online homework sometimes but its really easy to do.
I love Dr. Malatesta! She is very knowledgable about I/O Psych. Incredibly nice, genuine, and has an overall lovely laidback attitude. Textbook & attendance not required. Provides plenty of extra credit and the tests & case analyses are very fair if you put just a smidge of work in.
Prof Malatesta is great! Her lectures are really interesting and she gives you lots of opportunities to do well in her class. 10/10 would take her class again.
Absolutely terrible at lecturing. extremely boring. Makes you do so much mindless homework. tests are way too difficult for a 1000 class. worst prof I have had at OU. do not take her.
She's the sweetest thing! She's very passionate and caring about her teaching. Her lectures are kind of boring. She has the tendency of just reading off the board. Attendance isn't mandatory but she offers extra credit randomly! So always go! The exams aren't hard. She does iclicker quizzes, but those aren't hard either. Study and you'll be fine.
Does not deserve to be working at McDonalds much less a university. Absolute idiot. She is a bad professor and makes so many mistakes constantly. Awful tests. Do not take her.
Because of the pandemic, I knew that modes of teaching would have to change; however, I was hoping for more teaching from this professor. She posted videos for the class to watch based on our weekly chapter readings, none of them made by her. She did post her lecture slides on Moodle, but without any explanation or real teaching.
We had three exams and two papers along with extra credit. They are both simple if you do the readings. Be sure to take more time on the papers b/c she scrutinizes them, and they really put a strain on my grade. Regardless, the intensity for this class was difficult, though she responds very quickly and the extra credits offered were great.
She is a very nice professor and offers office hours weekly if you need help. She also gives a lot of extra credit to help boost your grade. However, she goes very hard on your papers and thats what brings the grade down. She does offer a second chance to the papers but not by much. That is why its best to do the extra credit!
I took Professor Malatesta for PSY1000, and she truly is a great professor. If you put the time and effort into this class, it is a rather easy A. She is available outside of class to answer questions, and holds reviews before the exams. If you have the opportunity to take her, she's great!
I really enjoyed Dr. Malatesta. She was really sweet and helpful in our exam reviews, but other than that there were no zoom meetings or anything like that. In a month, expect to read a chapter a week (40-50 pages), do a few online review assignments, and take an exam or two. The exams are fair and mostly based off her powerpoints.
All exam questions were pretty much on the PowerPoint. The workload was a lot. Seemed nice. I had to work HARD for the a- I got. For some exam questions, I felt like we never learned the material. If you study the powerpoints and definitions you should be fine.
Enjoyed this class, perfect amount of notes and assignments. The case studies were interesting and Dr. Malatesta is very kind. Overall, I recommend taking this class!
Dr Malatesta was a great professor! I learned a lot about the I/O psychology field from her class. Her PowerPoint lectures were clear and easy to follow. The exams are challenging but reasonable, just make read the chapters along with lectures. She was also very easy to reach and would respond quickly. Highly recommended!
Very nice professor. Easy to reach. Lectures were long but helpful for the exam. I/O was very interesting and the case studies were very helpful. Looked forward to doing the case studies. Exams were slightly difficult but the powerpoints help when studying. Overall good class!
She is the most bland person ever, she grades your papers so hard and I made an appointment with her fo r her to give me no feedback. IF you are not a psych major then she could care less about you. If you are looking for a good professor save some time and don't take her she's horrible.
She is okay. Vague PowerPoints. Lectures a lot and not that in depth. overall grade is based on 3 tests and 2 papers. make sure you get a good group for the papers. give lots of extra credit that is towards tests which is nice. I would take her again but her teaching style is eh.
Even as a psych major, I found this class incredibly hard. Not because of the content, but because the lectures given were so boring and long that I would nearly fall asleep every day. Gives no examples of studies, no videos or interactive assignments. Probably one of the hardest classes I will ever take! Only saving grace was the extra credit.
Professor Malatesta is so sweet and understanding. This course is very easy to pass and it gives you a lot of good information.
She was nice, she offered extra credit if you go to class, tests were easy she gave study guides for each one
PART 1---I took this class fall semester of 2022. Malatesta was is so nice and genuinely cares about every student, she is super approachable and truly feels like a mother in the classroom. She also has a great sense of humor and music. She may not know your name because the lectures have 150+ kids but she is very fair and will stop the whole class
PART 2---and explain something to you for 30 mins if she has to. Her class grade is mostly made of tests she has quizzes you take at home but those are easy. her first test is only worth 5% of your grade so you can see the format without it ruining you. Everything she talks about in class is off a power point and really easy to pull up and take
PART 3---- notes off. As long as you look over the power points and use the study guides you will do fine. She give a lot of extra credit too. I'm a nursing major but taking her I almost switches to a psychology major. I don't really trust this website because everyone says different but I can promise you Rebecca Malatesta is a GOAT.
I loved Professor Malatesta! She gave so much extra credit and the exams were great. However, the Power Points used for notes were often incomplete. She was also very lecture heavy, so I mostly just did work before/after/outside of class and I just existed in the lecture.
I have never taken a research writing class before (as I assume most students in the class have not either) but she grades the papers like we are all research psychologists. She does give you a chance to redo the essays. There are 2 major papers, and 3 exams, she also gives options for extra credit, but the essays can really bring your grade down.
Professor spoke the whole time in lecture and sometimes it was boring but she is very kind. Reading the textbook helped me a lot because her exams had info that was not covered in class. She offered a lot of extra credits that were don't in class with a partner.
Loved her! She gives great lectures, attendance is not require. You take one quiz a week and have exams. She also gives an online copy of the textbook for free
Professor Malatesta was a good professor and a very sweet and funny person, but her tests were difficult to understand and sometimes completely unrelated to the lecture.
Professor Malatesta is a very kind and caring professor. She does tell you to read the textbook, but she provides an online copy in Moodle. She gives many extra credit opportunities as well. One quiz a week and 5 exams throughout the semester. She really cares for you and your success. I enjoyed having her as a professor.
attendance is not mandatory but she offers 1-2 extra credit opportunities during class before each exam. She posts the powerpoints she lectures off of on moodle so its helpful. No homework except for one online quiz due every sunday. Exams aren't too bad but I feel like sometimes she includes questions about stuff we never learned about.
Professor Malatesta was an amazing person! I just had trouble grasping onto certain things because she would sometimes gather too much Information at once and get sidetracked. Many of my peers failed the exams but she wasnt too tough of a grader! As long as you study a lot then you will be fine! But be ready to take notes and remember them!
Professor Malatesta was a great professor in my opinion, she was lenient about attendance as well as giving lots of assignments to help get your grade up. There is a lot of extrea credit for this class as well if you participate. My class was very large, so there was not too much interaction with the professor, but she balances it very well
Dr. Malatesta was a good professor. She gave out lots of extra credit especially towards the end of the semester. Would take another class with her.
Loved Prof Malatesta! Important to actually go to lecture AND do the modules online. Concepts are difficult but she explains them well. Prof is an IO psychologist and gets really into the math and statistics which is confusing but its not on the exams. There are 2 group essays and like working as a group sucks but shes a really fair grader.
Theres an online book for free, but you dont need it as long as you go to class. She posts all her lectures before class. Also, her exams are super easy, I made my own quizlets and just studied 2 days in advance and never got below an 80%. Her exams are made from the lectures and sometimes she tells u to take note of it because it'll be on the exam.
Dr. Malatesta is one of the best professors in the psychology department. She makes the material easily understandable while also giving enough of a challenge to learn. She was always available outside of class and a great resource in general.
Prof. Malatesta is a kind and lenient professor. Exams can be challenging, but she offers plenty of extra credit opportunities. I found Unstuck AI and ChatGPT super helpful for studying and preparing. Overall, a manageable class.
Such a kind and caring professor, I wish she taught more courses that I need. Very understanding and she strives to help you in any way possible. Well-respected professor, if you ever plan on switching to psychology I highly recommend speaking with her. She offers zoom meetings as well.
Dr. Malatesta is fantastic. Her lectures are interesting and she will give you great memory cues that help a lot when test time comes around. There are 4 exams and a two-part final. She will give you every resource you need to do well on them. Very small amount of homework, and a lot of extra credit that is mostly done in class.
The sweetest teacher I've ever taken..she literally doesn't take point off any homework LMFAO. But it was an easy class so there weren't many assignments. I would say like 1 assignment a week (BARELY). Taking her for another class next semester! She's soooo nice. Gives good feedback too.
Poor lecturer with shallow study materials that are not very useful. I feel like I would've been better off in the class and learned more had I just used the online textbook and skipped lecture altogether. Unclear expectations and harsh grader. This is a really important class; I'd find someone better.
She is an extremely hard grader on your two big papers with vague guidelines. Offers revisions, my grades on my papers went up a lot after them but my overall grade did not. Not much help to prepare for your exams and her powerpoints are not useful unless you are in class and writing down every word she adds. Lots of extra credit added into exams
Mixed thoughts about this professor, interesting lectures, attendance and taking notes are a must to make it in her class. Reading the book will not help. Lots of extra credit and study guides for every exam. However, papers grading and feedback is very confusing, one time she asks you to add something and then you get points off for it.
Professor is really nice and willing to work with you but class is kind of hard for an intro class. There's lot of info covered on test and final exams, requiring you to memorize as much as you can. Sometimes, there is content on tests that was covered only once so make sure to come to class everyday and attend zoom reviews with GSAs. Take notes!
Professor Malatesta was a great professor! I was very intrigued by her lectures. They were very easy to understand and learn. she is very sweet and loves it when you ask questions. very helpful, organized, and intelligent professor. I 100% recommend taking one or her classes. was not difficult.
Absolutely incredible prof. It is clear how much she cares about the students. This is NOT an easy subject by nature, but Malatesta does her best to make sure everyone's on the same page. Difficult exams but lots of extra credit. Difficult papers but able to revise for a better score. So cool, laid back, and caring. Very involved in clubs/psy dept.
I love Professor Malatesta, but I wouldn't choose her again. Her grading criteria were based on three exams and two papers. The final was 30%, two exams were 40%, and method papers were 30%. I wouldn't suggest her to someone who has test anxiety, even though she offers extra credit, because one poor grade may ruin your overall grade.
Such a kind professor, I cannot wait to take her this summer semester.
I don't understand the good reviews at alll. Ur grade is made up of only exams which are very difficult. She offers extra credit that puts exam grades up by a few percent. I did better on my Anatomy and chem class than this. Made an easy class extra difficult for no reason.
Nice professor, difficult class. Take at community.
Very nice, so the reviews are understandable, but she grades with very few things, so if you fail an exam, ur done for.
Just take someone else.
GPA was ruined that's all I have to say.
TAKE A DIFF TEACHER
She is a great professor, she gives extra credit and you can slack in the class and still pass.
Very rude.
So incredibly difficult, I do not understand where I went wrong. I studied for hours, days, weeks and her exams made no sense. Chapter heavy with numerous trick questions that made you question everything. Should've listened to the reviews. I am tired of choosing wrong professors over and over. Do yourself a favor and go to a different university
She's nice overall. However, she is a VERY harsh grader and It seems like she doesn't look through her emails often. Her study guides are not always accurate to the extremely confusing exam questions she gave which made it difficult to get through exams no matter how much you study. She also does not set clear guidelines of what shes looking for.
Professor Malatesta was a good professor. She does offer a free textbook in her research design class. There are two papers to write, and I will revise them and give you another chance for a better grade. She does offer a lot of extra credit. I got a C on the first exam, and she offered to go over the incorrect responses with me.
This professor's lecturing methods did not suit my learning needs very well. She would often cut herself off in the middle of a point, jump to three other topics, and never get back to the original point. Even when repeating things that were CRUCIAL to the test, she would word it differently every time. You'll need the book to retain anything.
Great teacher, I just had a hard time following her because she talks so fast but overall, good grader, loves giving out extra credit and super nice.
Anyone hating on this professor, calling her hard or rude, you must have been just not coming to school period, cause this professor is fantastic. She makes an extra effort to make sure you understand she always has Kahoots and little conversation discussion times during class. She's a great option for a psych teacher, and she's very kind.
i think she was a really great professor she definitely cared about her students and gave soo much extra credit! she tried to make our lives easier and most professor don't lol i would definitely take her again if i had the chance the only bad thing i can say is she would cut herself off a lot and kind of ramble making her explanations confusing
