She's real cool, easy to talk to and understand. Tests are right off of notes and you can have a couple absences.
If you have to take history at texas state she is the best to take. You don't have to memorize very much for the tests and she is very straight forward with what you need to know. However because it is writing intensive it is hard to make an A. She is a very smart lady and expects a lot from her students' writing.
really long lectures... lots of random information, but you can use most of it in her essays
Very easy. Her lectures are prompt and go right along with her powerpoints; as long as you copy down everything on her powerpoints and use the study guide she gives for the tests (which tells you everything you need to know), you should have no problem in her class. :)
Gives helpful study guides for tests
She gives us a good review that offers questions from each chapter at least a week before the test. She also gives us the essay question on that review so we can outline it before the test. The review sessions that are offered are also very helpful; we go over the whole review which helps a lot.
I thought I liked this professor enough during the semester. She seemed helpful and answered lots of questions during class. The bad thing was that on the final, I needed a 79 to get a B in the class, and anything lower I would have gotten a C. I got a 76, and when I emailed her, she wouldn't give me 3 points on the final for a B.
OMG this lady is soooo boring. my first prof was so interesting but this lady is very monotone and i fall asleep half the time. if u study the essay question, u will get a good grafe but MC is 60% of the grade and the questions are a lil hard. you HAVE to read the book to do good on the MC.
This class was HARD!!! Lectures are very boring and she isnt very nice. You almost have to go to the SI sessions to get an "c". The reviews are not helpful nor are the sessions really, however they are good for the essay prompt, which she does give ahead of time.I would not recommend her at all.
She is a very clear lecturer, and uses power point, so note taking is precise. She offers an interesting account of past government dealings. She gives a study guide a week in advance that has EVERYTHING that is on the test. The only way to do poorly is by not trying at all. I am easily making an A with moderate effort. Take her!!
She is a awful teacher
if you like history, your fine, if your a History Major than you will like her. You have to read the book and make some flash cards but she gives you a review! so your good. the BAD thing is the TAs grade the essay's and you could give the same essay to 2 diff. TA's and one give you an A and the other give you a C. NOT a hist. person-dnt take her
she's a pretty good teacher but the tas grade your essays and they are terrible. if you go to si sessions, you'll pass.
had her for 1310 and 1320 -- not by choice. in 1310 i made a B ... mostly because i didn't know what to expect from the first test. if you listen and go to class (which is mandatory) you should make an a. she DOES NOT curve grades.
Do NOT take her!!! She is not a good teacher at all. The test are really hard and she does not curve test even when the class average is a 58. You have a multiple choice section, a short answer section and an essay to write in 1 hour and 15 minutes. This teacher expects a lot of you just to make a C.
Good professor. Class average was a 58 because the class is stupid and did not read like Dr. Montgomery said they should. TA grades the exams, but they grade them from *her* answer sheet. Dr. Montgomery is easier than 80% of the other History professors, I guarantee it!
I DESPISE HER TEACHING!
i liked her. she uses powerpoints and gives you a lot of information. you only need to use your textbook when doing the review, which she gives you at least a week in advance. just do the review and study it and you'll do fine. i managed a B in her class.
she was a little boring but she knew her stuff nad made the tests pretty easy...she gave you excatly what the essay would be over and the TA's graded it... i would reccomend her i have tyaken some crappy hard hist classes here and hers is do-able if you go nad just put little effort into it... do it!
You will need the book for reviews but if you know someone else in the class only one of you need it. Start the additional reading early. Make sure you get to know your ta's and get them to read you eassay before the test. Lot of stuff on test in little time. You definitely have to work hard in this class but its do-able.
She likes to go off on stories in the middle of lecture so you don't know if what she is saying will be on the test or not. she scolds the class like elementary school children if it gets a little rowdy. its annoying she made me sick.
she has a speech impediment!!!! she cant say her double ll's. The class is really boring. the si's help.her test are essay form, 15 mc, and6 short answer. if you study its pretty easy.
She is a wonderful teacher! She gives you all the test information at the beginning of the semester so its easy to know what to study. She also tells you exactly what the essay topics will be so there is no surprise. Really enjoyable class, easy A if you have half a brain.
Great teacher! One of the better history ones. Gives very detailed study guides and no surprises on test. If you study a whole lot, it wont be a problem. Have to read a book and write an in class essay over it whch was alittle harder but had study guide for it. Takes attendance. Good teacher. Take her if you can. And do not read book! Waste of time
Teacher focuses mostly on social aspects toward minorities and women than anything else. Completely skipped over WWI, WWII, and Vietnam and just focused on what minorities were up to at the time.
I really enjoyed this class. If you have a good background in American History and want to learn something you haven't heard before, take her. Pay attention in class and take lots of notes. Essays come straight from the notes, but you have to understand because the topics are somewhat difficult. Terms are easy if you write down what she gives you.
She's a goofy little teacher, but she's not all that bad. She posts the study guides at the beginning of the semester, so you know exactly what is on the tests. The worst trouble you will have is if you get a tough grader. I recommend studying and going to the SI sessions and you should do fine!
I have to hand it to her. she did give you the review for the test as well as the essay prompt but the review was very hard to complete. other than that if u pay attention, take notes, and attend classes shouldnt be to bad
She would use powerpoints but wouldn't put them up for us to use, so it was hard when you missed a class to get the notes. She would try to be funny but she just wasn't.
Friendly and fairly easy. I never used my text book once and passed with a C. The teacher seems very liberal and often skips many important historical events to commentate on what women or slaves where doing at the time.
Montgomery was an extremely nice teacher. She put up power points during class and you copied them down for notes. Honestly if you paid attention in class and studied for the class then you will make a B. History is not a class to slack off in. The tests are hard if you don't study.
I have always enjoyed history until this class. The class was not extremely difficult you just have to memorize 100% of the notes. The worst part of her class was that she skipped anything that was interesting in history and only talked about how bad women and minorities were oppressed. DON'T TAKE!
I thought this professor was really interesting, helpful, willing to answer questions, & the class was a good pace. Your grade really depends on how your TA grades, they are grad students, so they are hard graders (harder than the prof's in my opinion). You do have to study or you won't do well, but she was a great professor
Go to class everyday and take decent notes and you can easily make a B. 2 papers worth 5% each and weekly written assignments. You must attend class in order to succeed. Do the study guides thoroughly (using notes and the text) and youll get an A. Very fair test grader. Expects more out of the papers though.
HIST 3368G This professor has a vast knowledge of the subject which made the class very enjoyable. She was very helpful. Overall, I learned so much in this class that I use now in other classes. As an education major myself I would highly recommend this class to other education majors.
Took her for the very basic history class. It was challenging! Her tests are very lecture based. Make sure you always show up to lectures as she gives key-terms through them that are used word-for-word on tests and only available in class. I had a difficult grader (grad-student)so I made a low A.
So boring on top of that no cell phones or computers! Go to class it will help a lot. Make sure and study the key terms they are the test. you use them in the short answer and in the essays. overall pretty easy class if you study her study guides. I made a B easily.
Loved Dr. Montgomery! Very funny teacher and loves history. I wish that she would use powerpoint, because if you missed class you were deeply screwed. Her tests take some time to prepare for, but only 1 essay and a few IDS are required.
She loves what she teaches however I think she doesnt teach it well. Her powerpoints are confusing and she doesnt put them online. Her tests are really hard and if you dont go to the SI sessions youre screwed. She keeps you until the last second and I wouldnt recommend her.
She was a little rude at times, but when people are leaving in the middle of a lecture, they're being rude too. She was very knowledgable about the subject. Tests were a little hard, but not bad if you actually studied. History at TXST is just not an easy class.
Was an okay class but that may be may my dislike of history/lecture classes. If you take notes and do the test review your golden. The test are small part mulit-choice and large part short answere and essay. The grading on the test short answers and essay's was very fair and unbaised.
Dr Montgomery is a great history professor! All history professors at txstate demand a lot from you,but if you go to class and take notes and do the hw online you will do okay! She actually stays on schedule which is not common in history professors!
If history isint your thing, take her! She makes it easy to listen to her (dont take morning class) Her test are multiple choice, short answer and essay. She gives you 2 key terms every lecture and they will be on the test. i have taken other hisory professor and she is by far the best!
I had to retake this class and i am glad its with her this time. attendence is mandatory, she offerst the online extracredit connect. 3 test and one in-class essay. Still very easy class as long as you go and take notes about what she says during lectures
The professor is very knowledgeable but her tests consists multiple choice 5 short answers which is basically memorized key terms and a 2 page essay. If you can, take this online. This class is very challenging and if you can't attend SI sessions or if you have a busy schedule,THIS IS NOT THE CLASS FOR YOU.
GREAT professor! Anyone who has trouble in this class probably a) doesn't attend b) doesn't prepare for tests. She literally gives you the exact essay a week before the test, and gives you 10 key terms, 8 of which will be short answer test questions. Go to class, prepare for the test and you'll get an A
Montgomery herself is a solid professor who I very much liked, however in a large class she has her TA's grade your papers if you are a non-history major. Whatever grade they give you, stays. Personally felt like I was shafted when it came to grading as I did study heavily and know what I was talking about. Bummer she didn't grade them.
Montgomery loves what she teaches, there's no doubt about that The lectures are boring, and no pp's online Miss a single class and you for sure will mess up on the test IAs grade the tests and grade them hard If you aren't a history major do not take this class or any history class at Texas State Tests are 12 multiplechoice 6 short answer and essay
When coming into this class I was excited, she ruined History for me. Attended every class and still made a low B. The IA's are very tough on it, and sometimes are confusing. The class was not about the history you expect to learn, which was pointless and very boring. Dry sense of humor and pretty rude about electronics. Overall class wasn't great
Dr. Montgomery concentrates on women's issues even in a survey class. The student is short changed in not getting a full education on the era surveyed.
Not a terrible class, but I thought she graded too much on some things and not enough on others. Helpful if you need help. Would recommend.
Dr. Montgomery is a pretty good professor. Her lectures are great, though on the surface she seems a bit dry. But when you pay attention you can see her humor, and passion for history. She's also extremely helpful in office hours. She gives a review with the exact essay question before every test, so doing well is very possible.
She was extremely clear about what was on the test, and even made study guides!
Dr. Montgomery is a great professor. Very different from history teachers I had in the past but, in a positive way. Her tests consist of multiple choice (comes from online quizzes exactly), short answer questions (from lecture) and one essay (question is the exact one from the review). She is very helpful in office hours.
She is an awesome professor! Attendance is mandatory because the notes that she provides for us are SO helpful on tests. Every class, she goes over "Key Terms" that will always be on the test. She makes lectures less boring (coming from a person who isn't fond of history) and is pretty clear about what will be on the tests.
All tests are essay based. If you don't go to class, you're screwed; she doesn't post the lectures on TRACS. She knows a lot about the subject and is very passionate about history.
She mostly just does long lectures every class. Attendance is a must or your grade will suffer. The TAs take attendance every day. The SIs were super helpful and had lots of study sessions. There were 3 tests. 2 were short answer, multiple choice, and an essay topic. The other test was an essay test. I recommend taking this class.
She is a great history professor, she knows her stuff and takes an interesting social perspective on the subject rather than learning dates and useless material that will leave your brain once the semesters over she gives interesting take on the matter. You do need to go to class and take notes, she does not post power points online.
I'm a history major and I took this class thinking that I would really enjoy it but I was wrong. This class is super boring, she doesn't do much to make it exciting. All we do it lecture in class. The tests are fine but the essay questions on the tests and frustrating. She is a really hard grader too. I questioned my love for history taking this cl
Dr. Montgomery is amazing! Easy A or B. She really cares for her students and wants everyone to succeed. Exams are multiple, short answer, and 1 essay. Gives review and theyre exactly like the exam. Except some questions are from the launchpad. Mostly all exams are based by key terms. No powerpoints online but gives time to write everything down.
Dr. Montgomery is amazing! I never thought I would like History until I took her 1320 class. Her exams aren't that bad as long as you study everything on the study guide. She's very sweet and is willing to review your exam if you feel that your grader wasn't fair. Definitely taking her again!
She is a great professor. Everything you need to know is in her lectures (so don't miss class.) She gives great study guides for the tests and tells you the essay topics before hand. Study tip: write out the essay before hand and you can email it to her and she will look it over and give you feedback.
For history 1310 being a core class she takes it much too seriously and harder than it should be. Attendance is mandatory. Boring lectures. Doesn't post power points on tracs. Tests are LONG- 6 short answer, 1 long essay, and multiple choice. Cares too about the seating chart and students being on their phones/computers than a college prof should.
Montgomery is a sweet lady and her class is very doable, tests and few homework assignments arent hard, but the teacher assistants are the ones grading and they grade so harsh. Id recommend going to their office hours often so theyll go easy on you. Would hand out Cs on things that deserved at least a B if not an A
You can tell she is so passionate about what she is teaching. Attendance is mandatory, so starting on your 4th absence, she drops a letter grade. The tests are 10 multiple choice, literally just from the online quizzes, 5 short answer, from the key-points she gives us, and a short essay, which she gives you the prompt beforehand.
Lectures can feel like they drag on for a long time. I really couldn't grasp the material she taught and I could tell I wasn't the only one who thought that way. Attendance is super mandatory. If you miss one class, you miss everything. Try and make friends in this course so you can ask for notes when you're gone.
It's an extremely difficult class and you need your notes to pass. Her graders are terrible, and she refused to meet with me when I asked her to review his grading of my exams. I received full credit on everything but only got 90's, with points deducted on my essays that the grader could not justify. Hated this class and teacher.
Rebecca Montgomery was a sweet woman and her lectures were interesting, but tests were very hard. They consisted of 5 short answers, one essay and 10-20 multiple choice that come from the quizzes. Her IA's were rude and offstandish and they were very hard graders. Basically, if you're not a history buff, you won't be getting an A in this class.
She was a super sweet professor and I loved her lectures! She made history a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. That said Her IA's were Super tough and pretty rude. The IA's graded differently as well. I thought I showed on my essay exams that I knew the history pretty thoroughly and never made more than a C on any of them.
Prof. Montgomery is an amazing and sweet professor. Her lectures were heavy so I recommend not skipping or sleeping in her class. She made HIS1320 interesting but her IA's are one the toughest graders I've had. A friend of mine went to her IA's office hours, cause she barely got feed back on her exam & the IA was no help at all.
This class is not an easy A. However, it is attainable if you put in the effort and study.
I actually really enjoyed the lectures. However, her IA's were awful and graded incredibly hard with no reason behind points taken off. They graded inconsistently between each other. 2 friends and I studied the same material and the one with a diff. IA always had at least 10 pts higher even though we all provided the same information.
Since this class is a writing intensive course you need to take really good notes. You aren't allowed to record lecture and her slides aren't avaliable to you so it's best to show up to class. She have IA's who grade your papers and depending on them determines how in dept you have to write and know for test days. Overall it doesn't completely suck
I really liked her teaching style. She teaches from powerpoints but she also talks to listen to what she's saying as well and your notes will be much better. she doesn't put anything online so go to class. she's a social historian, so everything she teaches is from that perspective which makes it a lot more interesting and she's hilarious.
Lecture was interesting but was a lot of information. Tests were the hardest part by far!!! Had to prepare a lot for it and half of the stuff you prepared for wasnt even on the exam. Expected to prepare for 3 essays but only had to write 1 essay for the test. Essays were expected to be 8-10 pages and in GREAT DETAIL!
Her IA is very difficult to please and will count off large amount of points for small mistakes. I personally like Proff. Montgomery but her tests are really difficult. She allows absolutely no electronics and actually stopped class to tell someone to put away their phone. Her power points are not online, so going to class is a must.
lectures are long and boring. her IA's grade hard on short answer and essay portions of exam. you have to memorize 3 essays every exam and only end up writing about 1. she's nice and sometimes funny though.
I am currently taking the class right now and she is by far the WORST professor I have ever encountered and this is coming from a person that has dealt with many terrible professors. Tests are insanely hard, you gotta memorize 22 short answer questions and on top, write an essay in a 1hourspan. If you dislike monotone voices, do not take this class
Very unclear syllabus and grading criteria. She changed the due dates for quiz grades several times without making it aware to the class.
The worst history professor ever!! The grading is extremely hard, Ive never made higher than a C in this class. My friends are taking the SAME class with another professor and theyre making easy As. Also her lectures are slow and boring. I Would not recommend taking a class with this professor
Dr. Montgomery is a sweet professor who clearly cares for her field of work. That being said her lectures can be quite boring to listen to. No electronics allowed so taking handwritten notes sucks! Her TA's grade papers and are extremely harsh graders, while at the same time she does provide the possible short answer questions to you before hand.
She is very knowledgeable and respectable, however the IA's who grade the papers were so inconsistent and give almost no feedback. Kind of annoying because all they do is sit up front and stare at the class while the prof is teaching. I probably wrote about 4-5 essays and a million short answers (5 sentences minimum).
She is a VERY hard grader and taking notes is a must. She just shoves her political opinion down your throat and just teaches what fits her narrative. It's okay to have your opinion it's most likely going to slip occasionally especially in class like HIST but it was every few minutes she would say something disregarding your opinion if you disagree
decent professor, her lectures are just incredibly boring. she just doesn't know how to make history interesting :/ papers were difficult and i nearly failed this class. just make sure you pay attention, take GOOD notes, and understand the subject well.
She posted all her lectures and lets you see the test beforehand so you were able to work at your own pace. The lectures are very lengthy and boring. Very hard grading and no clear criteria/ feedback as to what she wants to see. The highest grade I got on an exam was a C and that was literally my best work. In-person would've probably been worse.
the course is all online but the lectures are really boring, videos are about 30 mins long but will take you over an hour to watch while taking notes. quizzes are somewhat decent, at least you get 2 attempts on them.
I really enjoy this class and that there are no surprises when it comes to what is expected each week. I find her lectures enjoyable, people saying that they're boring probably just don't appreciate history... This class is very easy
Prof Montgomery is smart and knows her stuff. However, her lectures are very lengthy, especially with the amount of time it takes to take notes. She gives you 10-15 short essays on the review, but only makes you do 6 of them on the actual test, which I thought was a waste of time. DO NOT take this class if you have a busy schedule.
The professor seems to know quite a bit about history, shame the tests are a doozy. Make sure you've written down notes on the book and her lectures, AND NOTHING ELSE. If you try to get fancy and bring in some knowledge outside with references, you'll get a 0. Her IA's are also really brutal, and they are really inconsistent with grades.
If you dont know what youre doing dont take this professor because even if you email her she wont give you directions. Ive never lower than an a in any class till this teacher she gave me a 0 for an essay I clearly emailed her about explaining I dont understand whats required.
Her grading criteria is very very strict, for an Gen ed class this is by far the toughest grading I have seen, even if you answer the question you still won't receive full credit due to how nit picky the rubric is. I highly suggest not taking this professor unless you are prepared to put in 6+ hours per exam and still make a B.
I would not recommend taking this course with this professor unless you study the material very well and listens to the lecture very thoroughly then you will pass otherwise you will fail! Because of her IAs hard grading its extremely hard to pass an exam must likely it will be a C+ or below.
During my semester she snuck in a FINAL EXAM grade to a BOOK QUIZ of which it was it's only kind. I accidentally missed this and when I asked if I could make it up it was "not feasible for me at this time" -Montgomery, Rebecca my avg without this in the class should be 85 but now it's a 68 because FINAL EXAM IN A BOOK QUIZ IN THE MIDDLE OF SEMESTER
Unless you thoroughly enjoy listening to a monotonous voice for lectures that take about 2 hours to take the proper notes, don't take this. All exams are short answers and essay based, and you have to watch every lecture and take incredible notes to be able to pass them. No homework, just weekly quizzes. Easily my most dreaded class this semester.
The class really only consists of weekly quizzes, three written exams, and a final. As long as you do your work and LISTEN TO THE LECTURES you'll be good. Make sure you take GOOD notes when you have to write your essays. I had a student grader and they were very helpful. If you need anything email professor and TA.
Dont waste your time here because Dr. Montgomery will. During a day where we had to write an in class essay, she was twenty minutes late, never apologized, and gave us the exam with a Do what you can. We didnt get a postponed test day or an extension into the next class. She said she would take the lost twenty minutes into consideration.
Probably one of the worse professors I’ve had. I have sent many emails to the professor as well as the TA and never got a response from either. Computers are also not allowed in class to take notes… Had an in-person essay and she was 20 minutes late and still required us to take it during class without an extension.
This professor is very strict. She has mandatory attendance, you cant miss more than 3 days without 10 points taken from your grade every day after that. Your almost ENTIRE grade is based off of tests, and she only gives one extra credit that goes toward participation grade. She even showed up to class 30 minutes late before &still had us take test
She doesn't respect your time at all! Showed up to a test 20 mins late & didn't apologize or offer us extra time for the time we lost. She also hates technology, so better show up with pen & paper or she will take points off of your grade if you get caught using tech. in class. Lectures are very vague, you need to read the textbook to understand.
This professor grades essays incredibly hard and seems to have no sympathy for absences due to illness if it surpasses more than 3 days. She is technically challenged and can barely work a projector. The material is interesting but the assignments and assigned readings are brutal. I would not recommend this professor.
The test are not fun. As they are all based off the notes you take or what you get from the TA study groups. It was very difficult and i would never want to sit through this class again. But i believe she is leaving so that is a good thing
Awful grader, hours studying and only receive a C, absolutely No technology allowed, everything hand written, no sympathy towards students, no extra credit, no grade curves, long lectures, monotone voice puts you to sleep, DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE
this professor was HORRIBLE!!! she mentioned a textbook but doesn't go over it or tell you where to access it. only gated were tests. no study guides and often wonders off the slides. doesn't upload slides or help you at all!! absolutely no electronics allowed. talks very monotone and is very very boring. DO NOT TAKE HER
Do not take this professor.
She cares about what she teaches, but its difficult to study for the exams without any sort of review time in class. Only parts of the essay prompt would be elaborated on and I struggled to keep up.
took her for a higher level class with a smaller amount of students and really enjoyed it. assigns good readings for the topic and her study guides are very clear/straightforward. lectures can be long and monotone, but assigned discussions are very interesting. a little tough when grading assigned papers
Tough class, but using resources like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the material. Strict attendance policy, but lectures are valuable if you engage. Worth the effort if you're interested in the subject.
