Keeps 3 hour class interesting. Exams are challenging if you don't prepare; read, attend class and take good notes. Several essays are due, but not difficult to write. You will enjoy this class.
She's very easy, you have to write some essays but they aren't hard at all. She gives lots of extra credit and if you read and study it will be easy.
Easy class as long as you come to class and read the book.
Professor Ortiz if a REAL person, she knows what life is about, an excellent professors. She just needs to know whatever you are going through as a student and she will be there for you as a student; as most professors are if you try to connect with them. I will be forever grateful for all the facts I have learned from her classes CNSL & PSYCH.
Only assignments she gave were her 4 though papers which are fairly easy if you understand her lectures. Her exams are in 2 parts, first part is multiple choice and come from the reading and practice quizzes and the 2nd part is from her notes. She tells you the class before what she will test you on so study that you'll pass for sure!
Dr. Ortiz helps you out a lot!! If you have any counseling questions she the one to go too. Her lectures are very detailed so make sure you take notes they help you with the exam. The test have 2 parts multiple choice questions are based on the book and her fill in the blank are based on lecture. I would taker her again!!
She will give students a good idea of what to expect on exams. However, it is always best to go through the book just in case and take notes of key concepts from the chapters as each exam will consist of more than one chapter in each unit.
Dr. Ortiz is very informative. She is amazing. She's a great professor. I loved her Psychology 157
Dr. Ortiz teaching style is different though very effective, especially on exams she practically gives us the questions for the exam. I have taken her intro class and I was failing but in the end i passed with a B. Just need to read the designated material. I highly recommend taking her to transfer out to Cal States.
She is a very nice lady. She does tend to go on tangents which makes class difficult. Direct and to the point would be more appreciated. Exams are partially made up by the department and teacher has her own test. The departments is where you will get in trouble, get ready to read.
Professor Ortiz is great! Make sure to take notes they help you with the test. Her test consist of 2 parts multiple choice and fill in the blank . She offers extra credit in each test make sure you take advantage of it! Makes lectures interesting with her stories. Loved her class I would take her again!
She's passionate and very straightforward. If you do the work you will pass. There are 4 exams and in every exam there are two parts. First part is multiple choice and comes straight from the text. The second part is created by the professor and consists of fill ins. There are 4 papers and 2 projects. Expect to stay the whole class time.
She is very straight forward with the exams. Just do your reading, go to class and pay attention and you should do fine. She reviews questions for the exams a week before, pay attention and study.
Professor Ortiz is legit! She does assign out papers but only wants 2 pages. There is about 5 exams but she always does reviews. She gives out one big project but let's you know exactly what she wants. She will always Literally tell you the only things she wants. Your will want to take her for sure! Totally recommend her.
Professor Ortiz is good at lecturing but sometimes I fee like the lecture is a bit crammed and goes through it quick. Other than that I like her class. But for this class you do have to read and study if you want to pass the tests.
I have Professor Ortiz for her Psych 157 - Child Psych Class. She is one of those teachers who really looks to have a connection with her students. She wants everyone to do well, and even though she does not have office hours, she makes sure to let us know that we have support available. The class moves fast but she makes sure you are ready.
She's a great professor very hard in grading but she's awesome; professor has a wonderful sense of humor love it
Fun Class. It's very helpful if you work with children or if you are planning on having children.
Overall, nice teacher.
5 exams. More than I am used to. Other than that it is a good glass.
Parts of the test will be unknown to the teacher so read the book or you won't do great on exams, you will likely pass but if you want an A you better read.
There are a lot of writing assignments.
she tells you whats going to be on the exam but shes doesnt specify whether its going to be a matching or short answer or chart and its quite a lot to memorize in a week considering we have lives outside her class. her lectures are long and boring and the sound of her soft mousy voice will either irritate you or put you to sleep
It would be a good idea to make sure you verify you are meeting all of the criteria before turning in assignments.
Professor Ortiz is probably the best professor on campus. I'm currently taking her Psych 157 Child class. She is very detailed and organized, you will never be lost. The exams are straight forward. Ortiz brings out the best student in you and has hilarious stories. I hope she can teach all my college courses. She makes Child Psychology very easy.
Clear instructions on assignments and material on exams
Shes a great Professor. I've taken two different classes of hers and liked them both. She tells you what to study, and basically gives you everything you need to get a good great. If you listen to her and study you'll do great!! Totally worth taking her class, she's taught me a lot.
she forces all of her students to rate her and as someone educated in psychology she should know that due to her authoritative position her students are going to write fairly positive reviews so her score is biased, honestly shes picky and irritating do not take this class
All you do is copy brief notes from her PowerPoints and complete easy Activity Sheets. She assigns reading and essays as homework, but they're very doable. She would often have conversations with us before she starts lecture; it felt like we were one big happy family. If you study, you can easily ace her tests. Definitely recommend this class!
I took intro to Psychology and Multicultural Psych with this professor and I wish I could take all of the other psych classes with her. She is amazing and is really generous when grading papers and tests!
Very nice. If you don't understand a concept, she will explain it to you with more depth.
Don't miss class or you won't pass. Everything needed to know to pass exams are provided during lecture. There are several papers and two projects but they are very manageable. I highly recommend her class. Great professor!
Overall, very good professor! I definitely recommend her for anyone interested in Multicultural Psychology. She is very generous when it comes to grading and workload is very manageable it is pretty much reading, 4 papers, and 2 projects throughout semester.
Wonderful class, awesome material to learn from if you're into psych already and if not it's still really interesting! Really explains everything well and gives you what you need for your study guide. Goes into depth about what she expects, useful class over all :)
I loved taking Multicultural Psychology with her. Her lectures are interesting and clear. If you want a good grade you MUST do your reading, as a portion of her exam is based just on the book. She is a fair grader, has a structured lecture, and a great teacher overall. I would really recommend her!
One of the best psychology teachers I've had. Her lectures are very interesting and she makes you feel very comfortable to ask questions. If you take notes in class, passing her tests are very manageable.
I didn't know all of the aspects of what multicultural psychology is. As the course went on, I found that the subject was very interesting. I learned so much. The grades are based on four different thought papers, tests, and two projects. This course is just the right amount of work, just attend class and listen/take notes during lecture.
I didn't know all of the aspects of what multicultural psychology is. As the course went on, I found that the subject was very interesting. I learned so much. The grades are based on four different thought papers, tests, and two projects. The homework mostly includes readings from the text. Bottom line, enjoy the class!
Prof. Vazquez-Ortiz is a great lecturer and all of her assignments are very much straightforward. I would most definitely take other classes with her, although I must say there are quite a few papers and assignments due but they are manageable and she provides lots of help/guidance.
I would definitely take another class with her. Her lectures are clear and she tells you exactly what she will ask on her open ended part of the exams. There are a few papers but she makes sure you know exactly what to write. She even offers opportunity for feedback before you turn it in and extra credit/
Really enjoyed her class, Dr. Ortiz makes the class interesting. Just make sure not to miss any days of lecture or else you will feel lost when the exam shows up.
First time taking her this semeste, it was great I really enjoy being in her class, not only that she gives out extra credit to help especially on the exams
Dr. Ortiz is great, I enjoy her lectures and is very passionate about the course and topics. She gives out plenty of extra credit to help. Just don't miss class or else you will become confused
Tests include written portions so study time is required. Tests aren't too hard, expect little study time.
Professor Ortiz is one of the best psychology professors. Her sense of humor is catchy so it keeps you awake during class. She is very straight forward with testing.
She is an amazing professor! She always keeps it interesting and relates a lot of the concepts to real life situations. Gives you exactly what to study for each test the lecture before the test day. She gives new material each lecture so make sure you don't skip. Gives plenty of extra credit if you attend certain events, and on the test as well.
She represents topics for us to related to or how other cultures differ from our own. Homework and projects are minimum and non-stressful. Exams are made up from lecture notes and multiple choice questions are from the textbook. She tells you exactly what is going to be on the test, so don't miss any lectures. Overall, amazing professor!
Professor Rebecca Ortiz is just a good teacher. I took this intersession and she was amazing. The only thing is that you have to read the book her exams are based on the book but the second part of the exam she gives a study guide for what's going to be on the second part. But she is funny and I would take her again.
Professor Ortiz is amazing. She makes me love the psychology field. Her lectures and tests were straightforward. She did help me with counseling questions too. Highly recommended her.
Inspirational and well organized professor. She will upload everything on blackboard so you know what is expected. Tests are easy if you take good notes in class lecture, read the textbook following the syllabus, and reviewing the practice tests on blackboard. Lectures are never boring since she makes sure you are focused. Good choice! Nice person.
Mrs. Ortiz was one of the best professors I have taken at Santa Ana College. She teaches really well, makes sure you really get the material, and just makes the class interesting. Her class was very easy to follow and as long as you did the assignments, listened to the lectures and study, it is really hard not to get an A.
I took her during the summer and thought that the class would be difficult and rushed. I was surprised to find that the class was very informative and didn't feel rushed at all. She explains everything thoroughly and has test review sessions. She has practice tests that help too. She gives a ton of extra credit as well. Overall an easy class!
She was one of my favorite professors at this school. She makes the class very easy, gives extra credit. Highly recommend taking her 100%.
She is the best professor I have every had in my life. Shes so nice, super funny, and she actually makes class interesting. Although shes very knowledgeable and incredible at lecturing, what made me like her so much was how much she cares about her students. Shes so positive and helpful to those who need it the most. TAKE HER CLASSES!
By far the greatest professor Ive had at Santa Ana College. Shes so caring ! Very funny. Her lectures are very understandable. All in class work. Rare occasional homework(besides Essays). Taking her class again next semester for a different psyc. Definitely a must take .
Professor Ortiz is by far my most favorite professor. If you truly want to learn and be interested in psychology she is the best professor for you. She is hilarious. She cares about your success & overall she is just great. Though you do need to study and take advantage of her extra credit assignments. She also tells you what to study so thats cool
I took Dr. Ortiz during intersession for Psych 100H. I loved going to this class. I did not feel rushed and her work sheets help a lot. The class is fun to go to and you look forward to discussing Psych topics. Read the chapters and study and you will get an A.
I absolutely loved this class. You do need the textbook to pass. She loves it when students participate in her lectures. Do the extra credit when it is given or you be struggling towards the end if you don't normally stay on top of your reading. Tests are two parts: Part 1 is the multi-choice questions and part 2 are the written questions.
Definitely love this Dr. Ortiz, it is not required to buy a textbook. There is a lot reading to keep up when it comes to exams. I would recommend anyone to take her guaranteed.
Great Professor! Makes a lot of things clear! Make sure to take notes during her lecture it helps. Gives out study guide for test. Overall, it's an easy class. You don't have to use the textbook but it does help a bit.
The lectures did not have much information related to the class. A lot of times in lecture we would talk about side stories and people's lives. Unless you need this class, I would not recommend it. I did like how her tests were formatted though, first multiple choice and then part two would be write-in answers.
This professor is amazing. I absolutely enjoyed taking her for Psychology 100. If you have the chance to take it with her, please do so. Her lectures are amazing and she is very sweet. These professors are hard to come by. By far, one of the best professors at Santa Ana College. She does give 4 100 point tests but they are very manageable and easy.
I took professors ortiz class as an 8 week session so there was a small amount of time to study for exams. There was 4 exams of 100 points, but she was sweet enough to let us use 3 index cards. exams were based off lectures, and somewhat on the book. the book had more in depth information from what she went over in lecture. 2 papers, and 2 projects
She is a great professor. The number of assignments is a reasonable amount. It's easy to achieve grade A if students study hard. Reading an online textbook is required to complete assignments.
Professor Ortiz if a very organized and a straight forward professor. I took her class online and she had all the modules uploaded with all necessary assignments that needed to be completed. 2 paper( 3 pages in length), 4 unit exams (25 questions each), and many quizzes. You need to need the online textbook to pass this course. Everything in book
Professor Ortiz is a very tough grader but once you adjust to her preferred writing style, it's an easy A. There's a weekly discussion post along with a quiz. At the end of each unit, there's an exam along with either an essay or a video assignment.
If you can take this class with anyone else do so Professor Ortiz is so lazy that she uses videos from 2017 as if online classes werent already a struggle during covid this professor is by far the queen of lazy she does not do anything but say what and when something is due. She is unapproachable very rude when you email her asking her for help
Unless you enjoy retaking English do not take this class this Professor focuses on your English more than actual psychology. To begin with she doesnt teach the class at all, uses videos from 2013 and others *cough cough* plagiarism. Save yourself the mental breakdown their are better teachers out there. Vicky Torres
This class has writing assignments and exams. She feedback and extra credit. She will grade your writing style but once you get it down, its super easy. Be sure to respond to discussion boards and submit your papers early for a better grade. I'm taking another class with Dr. Ortiz because I got a solid A and it was not that hard.
Dr. Ortiz really cares about you learning this material. Great that the textbook is free. Be sure to check in often especially for 8 week classes. I'm a nursing major so I basically needed an A and if you do the work, you will get an A.
Overall, good professor. Tough grader. She expects perfect grammar and punctuation in everything you turn in, so get ready for another English class! Quizzes and exams were based off the readings and the "additional links" section of the book. Make sure to read the book as all the information you need is in there. Two essays due.
ThIs professor is probably the wort I've ever taken. I was expecting to take a PSYCH 210 Class but looks like she wanted to involve an English class in it aswell. Overall she wants perfect English perfect grammar and APA formats like what? what does that have to do with PSYC?!? She needs to ease on the rough grading in the writing format...........
Dr. Ortiz is the best professor I have ever had! She is very approachable and always so sweet and helpful when you email her!!I would definitely recommend her course!
Let me preface this by saying I love the content and assigned text for Lifespan Psych. I loved the substance of the class but the professor is extremely dry. She cares way too much about formatting to the detriment of the content you will be submitting. I love english classes but her grading is sincerely offensive to the art of language.
I was pretty nervous about taking this class because psychology is not my major but I needed a math class. Computer assignments can be tricky but she had a tutor that really helped me out. Its a free textbook that you can use on the exam. Still cant believe I got an A with all of my math anxiety.
The lectures did not have much information related to the class videos were from previous old classes. Unless you need this class, I would not recommend it maybe try a different professor who is not lazy and focuses on English too much.
I took her 8-week class online and it was not hard at all. One essay is required (super easy). Read all the instructions carefully and do all your work, and the reading and you should get an easy A. Discussion board replies must be a minimum of 150 words. Easy class, Just DO THE WORK!
she deducts points for the littlest mistakes in discussion post
Honestly, I didn't like her teaching style initially and thought the focus was too much on English. As the course progressed I saw that she is a genuinely kind professor and she takes a lot of time to give feedback on everything. It was also helpful that she didn't deduct points for late submissions because sometimes things come up
Easy A if you put the work. professor replies back quick. she is there to help you.
The course is easy to understand. Each module has assigned readings that will help with the assignments. But look into the syllabus before you begin the first assignment because it will help with receiving a good grade. The paragraph formatting will help because if you do go over the maximum sentences you can loose points.
Course layout is amazing, very simple to do. She provides good feedback, and grades assignments as soon as you turn them in. You can always re-do them if you receive a low grade. Read and follow directions so no points get deducted. Use hard spaces for every paragraph you type. Type properly and use punctuation - it's a statistics class.
Each module contains a chapter that needs to be read. The professor does provide summaries for chapters. The module assignments are easy to understand and not hard to complete. I have also taken several courses with this teacher.
Professor Ortiz makes herself accessible to her students. Shes cares and gives extra credit. Reading the chapters and listening to the videos are essential.
Assignments are easy to understand just read the syllabus and rubric to know how the professor wants assignments to be completed. Each module contains a chapter to read and the assignments are based on the chapters.
Great professor however she assigned so much homework. Everything from readings, power points, and video lectures were accessible and easy to understand. The classwork felt like so much because there were so many readings. She ended up bumping my grade from an 85% to a 90% on my final grade :D
Super easy I would take it again. Do study for quizzes and make suree you read everything through and get a full understanding of what you are being asked to do.
Each week you have to read the assigned readings for the module, answer the discussion board questions, and take a quiz. There are three exams and two papers throughout the course as well. This class is super easy because you will find the answers in the readings. I loved this class and learned a lot she is great!! Would recommend.
She is definitely one of my favorite professors so far, she is really understanding and as a dual enrollment student I found it easier than my actual high school classes. Mrs.Ortiz is a tough grader.I usually got 13/15 on discussion boards but she usually leaves little feedback also same on thought papers (essays required). Overall I recommend!
Professor Ortiz is great! Assignments are due on Sundays so you have enough time to read the material. You'll have the opportunity to take the quizzes twice. Assignments are graded quickly. If you complete the assignments, read the material, and ask questions you'll do great. Keep in mind she's a though grader! Would take again regardless
Answers questions late, has no problem with what I write but marks me down for using hyphens/dashes. Students cannot respond to discussion posts w/ ANY positive feedback (compliments, agreements, etc). Hides quiz results so we don't know what to study. Some questions come from the next week lecture, and modules are locked until then. Good luck.
Tough grader on discussions but constructive feedback. Her modules are well-organized and easy to follow. There are quizzes for each module, but you will succeed as long as you read and see lectures. Tests are based on readings and lectures as well. Replies to emails promptly. Great professor, do the work and all extra credit opportunities. Easy A!
1/2 thought papers written. Has an online textbook, assigns long readings along with long power points. I made by own notes from readings and power point which helped me pass her daily quizzes/test of the modules. Test/quizzes were easy. Has a intro vid for each module explaining the assignments, very helpful! Discussion replies had requirements :/
Professor Ortiz is a slightly tough grader but she provides solid feedback. The class is very doable if you keep up with the readings and take notes. Assignments are due on Sundays, you also get two chances on quizzes which is super helpful. If you stay organized and put in the effort, it's an easy class to pass. I'd definitely take her again!
