She discourages students instead of helping them to get the better from them.

Worst teacher ever, she never comes to class, gives you alot of useless homework. out of 25 people in the class, 15 people dropped in the middle of the semester and for the final she failed 7 people leaving only 3 people passing. worst teacher in this world

Not to be mean, but by far the worst and most unprofessional professor that I have ever encountered. She picks class favorites and then grades reflect that. She always forgets what assignment she gave out. DO NOT take her!!!!!

Waste of time and money. The assignments are never clear. She grades based off whether she likes you or not. She forces her opinion on the class. If you can avoid this class. I normally get A's in english but she gave me a C!!!!

Really bad prof. She does not teach at all, makes you do excessive and useless work. You can never understand what she wants from you, and constantly complains about how behind we are, and how lazy we are. Do not take her class if possible.

Even though I got an A on this course, this professor doesn't know what she wants. Very unprofessional because she brings her outside life into the classroom. Half of the class dropped as previously said, very poor grading. Also, the amount of homework is giving depending on how she is feeling at the time. Do NOT take this professor.

Her assigment is not coherent. She need to explain more clearly. she alway talk about her personal life, and I believe they should stay at home, and her teaching should come to school with her. All the time she coming to school late, hello...my money, and she is wasting my money here!

One of the worst pros i ever had. really not clear, keeps getting confused, grades are hard as sh*t. Most of my class droped. the only reason I didn't drop is cause she was so hot, i couldn't do it. BuT DONT take her, not the best professor out there, even if she is a sexy mama.

She is not helpful at all always talk about stuff that is not relevant to the class. The comment she gives on essays are not helpful useless. She told me to rewrite all of my essays without saying what is wrong with them. She is not organized if you ask her what you miss last class she will tell you to go to her office in her office hour.

She likes to challenge her students with putting in extra work for essays which completely screwed me over with her writing process format! She's funny with her stories, but isn't quite fair to the class as a whole or that clear on directions in my opinion. Ask for clarifacation and she'll get sassy. Highly recommend though.

Slow to give feedback, when she does it is questionable, hard to understand. This is a beginners class, Intro to college writing yet she doesn't explain what her abbreviations mean she throws them out there not very helpful. Full of attitude. Great class if you are going to college to become an English Lit teacher

She did not answer questions in a timely manner and did not give feedback on papers. Any communication I did have with her whether it was on the site or through email did not make sense and was misspelled. This was the most unorganized online class I have ever taken. It was easy to pass but don't expect to benefit from it.

This teacher is honestly the worst teacher I have ever had. She constantly talks about both her personal and dating life. She does not explain any assignment properly. She will get an attitude if you ask her to further clarify anything. She's constantly off topic and wastes half of the class telling stories that are irrelevant to our current work.

Wish I had never taken her class

Terrible teacher. Lost assignments of the students and wouldn't give credit. After completing assignments she said it didn't matter cuz I wasn't going to pass. Her bad day becomes your bad day. Wish I never took her. Anyone but her.

Doesn't clarify anything, always has an attitude, doesn't help students, posts things at like 2-3 in the morning and expects you to have it done.

This is the WORST teacher i have ever had in my many years of college! I am very surprised she is still a "professor" at the college. If you ask her to explain an assignment she'll get an attitude and make you look like an idiot. She always talks about herself. She said when we talk to her she isn't really listening. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!

Honestly, if you are to have her as your teacher, you should either get a different teacher before it's too late, or just drop out now. When it comes to papers, she gives only a few of them, with no clear explanation of what the papers are about. Not only that, she expects you to show her each step of the writing process to receive a grade.

I usually don't care about these ratings, I'm optimistic. But this was a teacher I had wished I listened to the reviews. She talks about everything BUT the assignment. And then rushes at the end of class to finally talk about it. Horrible horrible teacher. Very unorganized. Please take another teacher. Save yourself the trouble & money...

honestly, if you are taking her class for credit, expect to be frustrated, disrespected and useless. She does not give good feedback on papers, she hands them back really late and does no grading until the last project (portfolio) She's the most unprofessional and unprganized teacher ever. Professor Portis makes strict rules then she doesnt follow them. Prepare to sit in class listening to her talk about politics, her assignments are the same throughout the semester

took her eng101 class, she is very inorganized specially when it comes to meetings. She will tell the class that everyone has to come to a mandatory meeting but wont make time enough for all her students. I got a B in the class but i turned everything in on time, there were students that did nothing and got an A. she doesnt grade by effort...

really realllyyy pay attention to these reviews, it's not worth it, she really is very unorganized, she makes rules that she doesn't follow, and her grading is very vague, she tells you what you did wrong but wont tell you how to fix it or what you need to improve on. keep in mind this is an intro to college writing..

She does not give papers back on time, gets distracted way too easily and definitely only pays attention to a handful of students. be prepared to get curveballs from her. also does not give feedback

Proffessor Portis is unprofesional , she cancels class all the time and sometimes at the last minute. she claims she does not take late assignments REGARDLESS of what ur situation is and at times, she puts a system for you to fail instead of succceed . she comes to class late and goes off topic A LOT

Professor Portis definitely writes her own reviews. this is the most disorganized and unprofessional teacher yet. She doesn't teach. She spends class time talking about herself. youre better off learning this course from a tree. she makes her students feel like failures for not turning in assignments that SHE has not even prepared for. save ur $$$

Just to start off, Ms. Portis is a good person. she is pretty nice and cares to an extent. however, having said that she is an absolutely awful teacher. I was warned before I enrolled in her class that she was not the best teacher, but I decided to take it anyway. BIG mistake on my part.

The first day of class, she noticed that we wouldn't have access to computers in our room, so she told us to go out and buy printers to print out all of our materials before class. She could have just as easily asked for a change in rooms, but made NO SUCH EFFORT. And the materials would normally only be available 5 hours before class SO.

Dont bother wasting your money. when you ask her a question or clarification she gets angry and defensive. She wont give any feedback instead tells you to look it up or ask someone else. The first month of class no one in class knew what was going on. Shes incredibly disorganized and wont grade papers if date is wrong.

I don't know what she is like in person, but her online class and feedback made it seem like she was always angry with everyone. Never got positive feedback and she would berate student work on discussion boards for everyone to see. Thankfully the material and assignments were easy enough as long as you did the homework.

I wish I had more than 350 characters so I could accurately describe how much worse than the 7th circle of hell her class was. She cancelled class 6 times, constantly changed how she was grading, and is not accessible out of class. I had to delay surgery by 3 months as she said I would receive an F for missing the 3 classes I would have to take off

If I could, I wouldnt even give a star. Worst English professor ever. She never replies to emails, and when she does, she is always on the defensive. VERY DISORGANIZED. She expects students to turn in work on time when she cant set herself to do so. DO NOT REGISTER FOR HER CLASSES! SAVE YOUR MONEY TRUST ME!

Where to begin, she would arrive 5-10 min late for a 50 min class and would go on a rant that had nothing to do with what we were learning. Strict with essay format with no examples to go off of and with a difficult blackboard to navigate. She dared to show us abused bodies on zoom that made many students uncomfortable, it wasnt related to our book

Grades too strict for an entry level course, Offers minimal feedback whilst expecting the most of her students. Offers no opportunity to improve grades stating that "This course is built to help you succeed". While at the same time there are assignments from the first week that still have not been graded. Do not register.

This teacher isn't clear in instructions. A well-written paper receives a low grade.

I took this class for dual enrollment and my high school teachers are way more professional than she is. She lectures on random things that have nothing to do with class. I got covid and over email she seemed angry with me and never helped me catch up. All of her answers never answered my question. PLEASE don't take her class, I didn't listen!!!

Taking this professor and I am astonished by her teaching style. No accurate syllabus provided. Compares work to other students work and grades based off of that. Frequently discusses her outlook on how MC students are disadvantaged in class. Very unprofessional and draws out class discussing non material topics. Cannot believe I paid for this.

Beware! very difficult & grades very harshly for minor things, I felt the whole semester that she was trying to fail me. Her instructions are not clear w/ assignments. She will tell you in the instructions to apply your assignment by copying & pasting it to the tool text box than give you a lower grade because she wanted it uploaded as a pdf file.

Rebecca Portis will show up late to class, unprepared, and moody, though she expects all students to be fully prepared and engaged in class. she is inconsiderate of peoples living situations and will not accept any "excuse". She strays away from topics and will go into long rants about her personal family business. Dont take her class

Professor Portis is a VERY strict professor on attendance. No matter if you have unforeseen circumstances, you will be threatened with failing out of the class. No late work is accepted nor extensions unless the class as a whole isn't submitting the work due to her confusing assignments that are harshly graded. Feedback on assignments unhelpful.

I have never had a teacher who seemed less interested in teaching a class. I took an accelerated version of this course and was expecting a lot of extra work but what created the most stress for me in this class was Professor Portis. She responds to emails in an untimely manner and will penalize you for her late response.

I'm in her online class. Hard to reach and went out of her way to tell the class she would not reopen assignments after I asked privately. I sent her an email about a family emergency and I have received no response. No feedback, strict deadlines, and leaves you to panic. Don't take her.

She provides no feedback and is inaccessible. At first, some items were allowed to be a day or two late. Now, she will not reopen anything and told the class after I asked for an assignment to be available. Even for serious situations, no response. Do not take this if you procrastinate or have things happen to you. Asked to meet, said nothing.

Take a different professor even though it was an online course, she was very uptight through emails. DO NOT THINK YOU CAN SUBMIT LATE. She never available outside like office hours. NEVER GIVES FEEDBACK AND SHE WONT MET FOR HELP WILL DIRECTOR YOU TO THE COACH OR THE CENTER RECCOMEND SOMEONE ELSE

Absolutely terrible professor. I would never recommend for those who want a simple english 101 class. She makes us hand write essay outlines, talks for hours about irrelivant topics in class,and allows little to no leniency on late work or absences. Her assignment directions are often confusing and unclear. DO NOT TAKE FOR ENGLISH
