She is such a great teacher! If I could take her class again I would. Her essays can be difficult. I never got an A, and I actually don't know anyone who did. But the esssay's aren't worth much so you can still get an A in her class without doing extremely well. She offers a lot of extra credit. Keep up on readings and go to class. You will get an
Excellent professor, fascinating class discussions, take her class, take advantage of her insights, a difficult course made pleasurable.
WEll she isnt easy...i'll tell ya that. if your looking for an easy teacher look somewhere else. but she interesting and i learned alot in her class. She is fun and class discussions are also interesting. but she is deffintly not what i call easy. She is a lovable person though
Ms. Quinn is a top notch educator. She is engaging and helpful. Her class is structured without being too rigid.
She is a great person and has a huge heart, but sometimes that just does not cut it to be an effective teacher. From her class I learned nothing. She talks a lot but says nothing. Her essay prompts are lame. I did not even feel like I was prepared for the final that you have to take after completing English A. A great class for lazy freshmen, as
I am shocked at some of these comments. Professor Quinn is awesome! She is easy to talk to, very understanding, gives lots of E.C. You have two weeks to write each essay along with class time to edit. I got a 98% She is easy and fun! You sit in a circle almost everyday for discussion. Its awesome. Take her! Just make sure you do the readings.
Quinn was a somewhat hard teacher with a lot of reading, and a high standard for her essays. That being said. The readings are interesting topics that cover a wide variety to appeal to anyone. She offers a lot of help when the students are in the proccess of writing the essays, and she is always cheerful and happy, and OPENMINDED. EXCELLENT!
She is a great teacher, very helpful and understanding. She comes to class everyday excited to teach and makes sure we fully understand everything. She does like to talk a lot and it can be a little overwhelming. There are not very many hard assignments, just mostly busy work and lots of extra credit. I would recommend her class!
This class may as well be an online class. We are assigned homework to post online on a blog, then we discuss what we posted in class. We read out of the book and discuss our findings. No real analysis or help with our writing. She is a very delightful person but I feel I have not learned much.
You have to apply yourself to be successful in anything in this world. Rebecca is passionate about literature, and it shows in her class. This class opened my eyes to the world, or at least a different way of looking at it. Put it in the time, and you'll get through just fine.
Take her class! She is a fun teacher and loves her job! Class was always ineresting and if you do the work you will get a good grade. Loved her class!
She was very enthusiastic, she tries her best for you to understand and improve your writing. Go to class, hide your cellphone and enjoy the class.
Rebecca is an awesome teacher! She is always really upbeat when it comes to class. She isn't that hard of a grader when it comes to essays. You have 4 essays, a powerpoint movie, and a skit or movie to do. It's a lot of fun and she has A LOT of opportunities for EXTRA CREDIT which are 50 points each. :) TAKE HER!
Argumentative English was very daunting for me because of all the public speaking required, plus I am not an argumentative person and taking a stand on topics I knew very little about made me extremely nervous. Rebecca was super supportive, always cheerful & helped me get over(some) of my stage-fright. 3 essays, several online DB's & a 4pg final.
BEST teacher ever. I am not a huge fan of english but she made it so much better!! She is so passionate about her job and it really shows when she is in front of the class. I couldn't say enough good things about her! Take her classes!! :)
TAKE HER CLASS!!!! She is an absolutely amazing teacher, she is very liberal about some topics so she may get a bit distracted sometimes but she is very sweet and lenient on grading! She helped me through my first year in college and I can't thank her enough!
Don't get me wrong she's a good teacher but she's very hard when it comes to grading. I wouldn't take her and I wouldn't have passed her class unless I got the 100 points of extra credit for writing letters to pen pals in a middle school. Her quizzes are ridiculous and un-passable unless you read. The literature is really long and she expects you to recall it all...don't take her unless you have to take 30A as a requirement...not to mention her voice gets higher as she gets into her subject.
Lets just put it this way... You will hate her guts because she cares about your progress, she wants to help (via assignments), her work is routine, you can't slip out of attending etc. However, at the end of the semester you will be so glad for all of those things. If you are going to college to learn (as opposed to getting a degree) take her clas
This professor is amazing. I started out disliking her because I thought she graded way too hard. But don't let that get in the way. She really pushed me to explore my thesis and essay writing skills. There are some annoyances (frequent group work) but if you really want to develop your writing choose her.
She is a fantastic teacher, truly intelligent, and she really loves her job. She will play devil's advocate to make you think about all viewpoints. She will make you a stronger writer if you let her. I have sailed through English classes, but she is one of the few who has truly made me a better writer. If you want to learn in college, take her.
I enjoyed Rebecca, she is great teacher, and loves to help her students. She is very bubbly, happy and energetic
Rebecca is an excellent teacher and will push you to become a better writer. The class is not an easy 'A', but at the very least, you WILL leave the class as a stronger writer. Her personality is infectious and will motivate you to work hard.
Mrs. Quinn is a lovely person and overall WENT OUT OF HER WAY to make sure I moved on to the next class. She can truly see if you're slacking off so don't take her kindness for granted because she is not a moron. I think she is an extraordinary teacher who LOVES her job. Just pay attention, respect her, and do your best. :)
She is a very nice and genuine person, but as a professor of a college course, she is absolutely ridiculous. She engages well with students, but doesn't stay on task and expects her students to know whats going on in the actual class even when she doesnt! I do not recommend her, I didn't learn anything in her classes.
Worst Professor and English Teacher I've ever had. Fails essay if their was any percentage matched with turnitin results. Ended up dropping the class she is loud and assigned a poetry project that required how to make and edit a movie on the computer. Would not recommend, so many other English teachers.
Took the hybrid class, there is A LOT of online work. Professor Quinn really tries to make her class interactive and interesting. The essay topics were easy to write about, and if you didn't pass it then she lets you revise it. THIS IS NOT AN EASY A. Was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I'd recommend it only if you're extremely motivated
Took hybrid class and would not recommend unless you already good at writing, making videos and group work. Friendly and responsive professor but 30 minute video group project and poem video too much for a mainly online class. Essays had unclear prompts. Textbook assignments repetitive and also group work. Did not learn much either.
Weekly discussion boards&essays were easy, but she wasn't clear on instruction& failed to help/respond to you if you miss a class. The class final was to make a 30min movie so pray you get a good group or your grade will drop; I had an A &my group dropped me to a B. Not a hard class, just not a great teacher. Definitely don't recommend taking her.
Prof. Quinn genuinely cares about her students. She is very available to her students, and does a great job hearing her students out, considering their thoughts, and generating solutions. Course load was fine until a documentary final was assigned, but Quinn partnered with students to help them be successful. A great and caring Professor.
I took her for the Literary novel course, if you are planning on learning about actual adaption techniques: read a book and save yourself some money. She does not teach but rather goes over the book rather than the film. Participation is crucial, I missed 6 classes: two of which should have been excused because of my situations: they were not.
Rebecca is one of the best professors I've ever had. She is approachable and really wants to help if you're struggling. She assigns plenty of homework and you have to keep up to pass the class! You have to work for your grade, but overall it's a great class and well worth it!
i took prof quinn for her adaptation class and i absolutely adore her. she's so sweet, and more importantly she's super passionate about the material she teaches. there is A LOT of reading though, but as long as you come prepared to class you'll pretty much get an A. she gives extra credit, and frequent quizzes which are basically free points.
Rebecca's a great teacher considering this was a pilot class. She did her absolute best with the materials and lets everyone have a say during group discussions regarding the reading. The one thing I hated was our final project because I had to learn about Google Docs for a class presentation (and I still hate it) but participation counted.
SO GOOD! She is interesting to listen to and tries to get the class to engage in worldly matters, but she still ties everything back to the class. She is a hard grader and you have to participate in the class, but once you become engaged everything gets better. Keep up with homework assignments and follow her grading criteria and you will do well.
So the subject's an absolute bore but Rebecca goes out of her way to make it interesting and not too taxing on you. There's tons of extra credit opportunities to take advantage of if you need them, and if you need extra help understanding the material, you CAN talk to her because she doesn't want you to fail or stay confused over the reading.
Have to do a lot of reading and then get quizzes on it the next day. One long 10 page essay at the end of the semester but she preps you for it and gives you months to complete it. Super helpful and as long as you do the work you will pass.
Rebecca Quinn is inspiring. She makes the subject interesting and she's passionate about it. She wants her students to succeed. She answers all questions quickly and she's a fast grader compared to most professors. One of the best teachers I've ever had; I highly recommend her. It's a lot of reading.
This class was enjoyable for the first half of the semester because she didn't have high expectations of our analysis on film and novel. However as the semester progresses she relates the film and novels to literature. I was not aware that literature was described in the course description. There is a lot of reading( 4 novels)and they are boring.
Professor Quinn was the best teacher I have ever had. She is very understanding and will work with you if you're having a problem. There is a good amount of work but it's not just busy work, you actually learn from the class. She is very helpful with the research paper as well! Take her class!!!!
I took Lit 27 with Rebecca. She is a wonderful teacher. She is very smart, kind, helpful if you ask for help. She is clear on assignments. She wants her students to learn, and if you earn a good grade, you will find you have learned a lot. She encourages class discussion and takes a personal interest in her students. She is an A+ teacher.
Rebecca is awesome! There def is a ton of reading, and she expects you to be able to participate in group discussions. Other than reading there isn't a ton of homework. There will be a midterm and final. She is very easy to talk to and is more than happy to help you. I loved her so much that I took Filmed Novel with her too. I highly recommend her!
Awful. Probably one of the worst teachers I've ever had at Sierra College. My major is English and she made me not want to pursue the major any further. I have had her for two classes and they were both really group project oriented and she cut little to no slack for those of us who have to work. Her style is more suited for a highschool classroom.
If you want an easy A dont take this class, but if you want a professor who's passionate about teaching, someone who truly cares about you and wants you to succeed, then this is the one. She's inspiring, and she's kind.
My favorite teacher at Sierra College, by far. I'm a Psych major but after taking her class Im changing to English. She's very kind, but don't take her kindness for granted because shell know if you aren't doing the work. I needed help and she was there for me every time; all I had to do was ask. Rebecca Quinn showed me that I could be a writer!
Rebecca Quinn is awesome, here's why: her lectures are exciting, she grades quickly and always responds to emails quickly compared to all of the other professors Ive taken, she wants her students to succeed and likes to help, and she's amazing at making people see life from different perspectives through literature. Her teaching rocked my world.
Take her class, she's very cool. Quinn is one those rare people that teaches coz she actually loves it. Know the difference between the words "women" and "woman", use them correctly, and you'll do great.
Shes really great. Her teaching style is awesome and I really liked her take on things. I would definitely take her again.
Terrific 'Literature by Women' class, A+ outstanding professor. There's a lot of well-selected reading, varied over centuries. Professor Quinn welcomes questions, is quick to respond, & open to providing 1-on-1 help for specific issues. If you do the reading & writing, you'll do well in the class. She's also open to students interacting with other.
First on-campus class I'd taken in years, but Professor Quinn made it very non-threatening. She was always open for questions, provided spot-on critiques (when necessary), encouraged interaction among students, & reminded us of deadlines without being a pest. Encouraged us when we wanted to tie-in current events to our readings. Highly recommended!
Quinn is totally AWESOME. Take her class.
I took Professor Dakin Quinn for English 27 and I really enjoyed the class. If you keep up with the reading you'll do well in the discussions, and then you'll get a good grade. She's really good with giving feedback and I learned a lot from her comments. She seems to really like students who think critically and give creative answers.
I'm currently taking LGBTIQ literature with this professor and it's one of the best classes I've ever taken. The other students are amazing and Professor Quinn is facilitating a very powerful experience. This is shaping up to be a life-changing class.
This is the best class I've ever taken in my entire life. People really opened up in the discussions and it was an amazing experience. I wish every class was like this. I'm staying in touch with several students after the semester ends because we've become really close friends. I HIGHLY recommend this professor and this class, it's the best.
It was an online class and now we're staying friends because we got to know each other so well, better than people I was with all semester on campus. The teacher is a genius because she required a high standard of work but she made it fun, and somehow we all rose up to meet her expectations. It was kind of magical to be honest.
I took English 16 to satisfy my major requirements for my AA. I didn't know what to expect from the class but Professor Quinn created an amazing learning environment that went beyond the classroom and really transcended most other classes I have ever taken. Definitely recommend her as a Professor, she was spectacular in every way.
This was the first time this course was offered online, and it was a ton of fun. It can be a lot of reading at times, but the texts are all interesting and provide a nice variety of styles and topics. Easily accessible during office hours, I'd go in with one idea for a paper and walk out with three ideas!
Take her courses if you have a chance; she'll give you a go of it, and if you put in the effort to read and think critically about literature, you'll feel a shift in your everyday life. I couldn't recommend her highly enough.
I took this class because the reviews were good and I'm really thankful I did. She's great coz she made me thnk of things in new ways. Tbh english has never been my greatest but she made it my new favorite subject.
I don't like speaking up in class, but this teacher helped me find my voice by making me feel like my opinion mattered. She never puts anyone down or makes you feel less than other people. I spoke up more in this class than I ever have and it was cool. She's a really great teacher, and she cares a lot.
It's a lot of reading and she expects a high standard of work, but she's fair, she's kind, and she's passionate about teaching. Take the class, especially if you want to move on to a competitive four-year college.
Rebecca's cool. I'd take her again.
She expects a lot seeing as its community college, but she's inspiring so it's okay. She's a great lady, for real.
I really like Prof. Quinn. You have to read quite a bit but I like reading and the stuff we read was really awesome.
She's so sweet! She knows if you don't do the work, she isn't stupid. If you keep up on the homework you'll do well. It isn't that hard.
Whatever Sierra College is paying this professor, it isn't enough; they're very lucky to have her. If you're interested in learning how to think critically, how to summarize readings, how to take part in constructive (respectful) discussions, and how to write great essays, you will excel with this professor.
Rebecca is a great person she did a really amazing job of getting her students on a trust level seeing as this class was specificly focused on African American culture/ literature. However, she will pair you in groups even if the group hurts you she doesnt care and you try your hardest on papers and she grades for how SHE would write one, not you.
I really loved Rebecca's class in the end. It wasn't easy, but I learned more in this one class than in all the other ones combined. I had to get out of my comfort zone but it was worth it.
This is the only prof who won't let me get away with turning in bad work and although it's been a challenge I'm grateful.
Great class if you like reading. I'd take her again.
Had her for ENG16 and ENG40. ENG16 is by far the best class I've ever taken in terms of what I gained. ENG40 is a ton of work, and she is a difficult grader, but she is easily accessible and willing to work with you. Need to keep up on your work for sure but Quinn's the best professor I've ever had.
Prof Quinn is an inspiration and it was an honor. If you keep up with the readings and take part in the discussions you will excel. Ask for help if you need it, she is very responsive. Shes a gem.
Im heading off to a four year now and Professor Quinn helped make it happen. Im so grateful to her! She rocks. For real.
Ill make it simple: Shes the best teacher Ive ever had. Take her class.
Mrs. Quinn expects a lot from you but it pays off in the end. I needed extra help and she responded fast every time. She really cares about you and wants you to succeed and that was the best part because I became a better student overall from being in her class. She seems too really love to teach. I'd take her again for sure.
I wish I'd taken my other English classes with Mrs Quinn, but I found her too late. She has high expectations and then she helps you reach them, I don't know how else to say it really. The cool part is she truly cares and I think that's rare these days. Don't fall behind on the readings, that's my only advice. Anyways, she's great.
I thought the class was really cool. I loved the readings. It is a lot to read tbh, and you need to keep up on the discussions, but I'd def take this prof again, I thought she was great.
Rebecca Quinn was inspiring. She's a tough grader but I really liked her, it was a good class.
I wish I could of earned a higher grade, but I really enjoyed the class.
Professor Quinn is a wonderful teacher. You are expected to read a lot so you can take part in the class discussions. She is always willing to help, and provoke forward thinking. If you prepare for the two exams you will be golden. Make sure to proofread all of your work before turning it in as you will be marked off for grammatical errors.
Quinn as a professor is awesome. I found all of her classes (online and offline) to be easy, just show up most of the time, participate, and turn in your assignments and you'll be fine. For her on-campus lectures, Rebecca tends to go onto tangents, but she means well I think. Can be lecture-heavy, notes aren't necessary, but reading in general is.
She is on of the few profs I would take again because of her personality. In this class you will have: weekly write ups (1 page), QR2 (she gives you set of questions and answer them, group project (easy because you get to choose how you do it), in class paragraph write ups about the reading and debate.
Had 12 discussion board posts a week. It was a lot of reading and even if you try to cut corners it will take at least an hour for the original post and another on the 5 replies, twice a week. On midterm and finals week she cut it in half. Her midterm and final are each 4 page essays. Good class, but need to have great time management.
Great person, but was such a picky grader and her essay prompts were so unclear.
Quinn's class is a decent amount of work but it's because she values your education as a student and is willing to work with you to succeed. get ready to read tho
Best professor. She is willing to help and gives you excellent feedback.
LOTS of reading and LOTS of discussion board work, but that's the whole class. If you schedule your time efficiently, you'll be fine. Professor Quinn is one of those unique professors who really, truly cares about her students and seeks to make connections with them.
Professor Quinn really cares about her students and is willing to work with you every step of the way. Definitely be prepared to read, A LOT. And there will be endless discussion boards. But if you can stay on top of the work it will be a very fulfilling class. Highly Recommend.
Tough grader. She will grade everything as if she was writing it not as a student. She does not give partial credit or make up work or extra credit. You will have a hard time passing this class.
Overall, this professor is worth taking and deserves every positive review left. My longer review is that the course material should be mandatory for every college student to take. TOUGH grader for someone who does not have time to get in direct contact and discuss corrections. Don't take the accelerated class if you work full time w/ other class
I LOVED this class! All of the novels we read and their film adaptations were very interesting. There are multiple discussion boards for each of the novels and one for each film and they were all engaging. We also had to do group video essays for the midterm and final, and as long as one of your teammates knows how to video edit, you will be fine.
LOTS of work, a lot about politics and morals.
So much information given by the professor each week to ensure you understand the readings. Some weeks you'll read like 100 pages.. I love to read but I've never read this much for a class before haha. Quinn is very caring and wants you to pass. Just read her prompts carefully and put in effort and you'll be fine
Overall didn't like her way of teaching, she was no help when I was having problems with the websites we needed for assignments, pick someone else.
Quinn is super sweet and her class is very well managed and set up. While there is a lot of reading, if you schedule yourself well and don't procrastinate it is very easy to complete and all of the work based around the reading is pretty clear and easy. Participation of Perusall is the biggest part of her class for sure.
Class felt unfocussed and too-focused on political centrism. I felt that I was being taught to declaw my written arguments rather than improving my argumentative skills. In-class discussions often were interrupted by the professor when they went in a direction that she disagreed with. In addition, the writing portion of this class felt tacked on.
Professor Quinn is a kind and intellectual professor. This course was the most challenging one I took at Sierra College, due to the intensive reading and the difficult final. Although I took an 8-week format for this course, it is definitely possible to earn an A, but you will need to engage heavily with the course content and read extensively.
Quinn is one of the best professors, the class is very content heavy. I don't know why everyone has a problem with the political stuff but I think without them this class would be kinda pointless. if your uncomfortable engaging in any one those things talk to your counselor maybe they'll suggest a different English class.i recommend taking her.
I enjoyed Quinn's class a lot, although I would not say she is very involved in the class. All of the assignments were group discussions, a mid term, and an optional final (if you have a C or better). She very much leaves it to the students to work together. Great book selections, though.
Professor was one of the best professors I've had. I ended up with an A+, which was amazing. Initially, I was confused, but it wasn't her fault; it was due to the online website. She was very accommodating, offering many extensions and extra credit opportunities. Additionally, she was always respectful. I would highly recommend her to others.
Professor Quinn did a great job for my online ENGL1C class. The best attribute of hers for sure is that you can tell she cares about what he teaches and getting people engaged. She selects great and relevant topics for us to work with which and I can't remember the last time an online class had me as engaged as hers.
This professor in terms of teaching content was great. She understood the material and knew how to help us understand it. My major concern with this class was how she created open discussions in her critical thinking class. They often forced you to polorize you against other students and did not let you come to meaningful compromises.
While professor Quinn obviously loves her job, I just didn't really vibe with her class. She has a very heavy focus on politics, and we did little to no reading. My friend had another professor who had them reading a multitude of short stories/essay's, and I wish I got to do more of that. This was a hybrid class, which I also didn't enjoy.
