thinks everyone is a biopsych major, ridiculous demands, unorganized lectures
Hard n demanding class, but she presents it in a straightforward, humerous manner.
The class is pretty demanding, but she's a good teacher, organized, very clear on lecture, but not so clear on what she expects you to know for the test. Overall good at teaching and you might actually be forced to learn something.
A surprisingly cool teacher. It's a hard class, but she makes you smile through it. She has that weird sense of humor, but it's a better than dry lecture. She rocks! But be prepared to study... A LOT!
cool teacher. she has a good sense of humor and her lectures are well organized, but she doesn't really say much about what's gonna be on the exam. Plus, she's cute..in a spunky kind of a way. oh yeah, it's prob best to take her in sum or win- much easie
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU REALLY NEED IT!! Her teaching style is very poor. She is not clear when answering questions and the tests require a ridiculous amount of studying to get a C!
Knows her subject VERY well, and so can teach it well too. it's a little dodgy studying for her tests tho. Better to read EVERYTHING (notes/text) to do well, so it's a tough class. btw, she's a real nerd with lots of nerdy jokes even.
DON"T TAKE THIS CLASS. WORST TEACHER EVER.PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR.
Sage is horrible. These people that gave her good reviews are obviously the kids who are just like her,a science nerd. She thinks everyone knows this subject and is majoring in it. Expects you to study 3 hours per class hours for an exam. DO not take her!
Dont take this woman on a short semester, goes too fast and not very clear
very difficult class in summer.confusin notes. stick to the book its much easier.difficult 25 question exams.allows a 3X5 cheat sheet.gives 30 xtra credit points.curve grades.only 2 A's in the whole class.
I sincerely do not recommend people to take this class during the summer session unless you really need the credit/class for your major and think you can manage to pull a "C" grade or better. This professor is very disorganized and not very hel
RUUNNNNNN while you can. The teacher appears to be funny and cool, but in actuality, she's a real nerd. The class is terribly hard. Only take this class if you want to be a neuroscientist! LOTS of studying and the studying results in a C, D,F!!
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. SHE IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!
not sure wut happened to her. had her 2 yrs ago & she was ok. the subject is not easy and not recommended for non psych majors... more physio than other psych. btw she's easier in sum/win cuz she has more exams and takes out some material. Overall, not as horrible as some of these ratings suggest
Extremely hard class. Her test are never on what she says they will be. Questions are worded funny in order to confuse you. Higehest grade in my class was a 85% and that was me. I studied everyday ans still didnt get an A. This prof. is horrible. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS ANATOMY IS EASIER THEN HER!!!!!
DO NOT TAKE HER,DO NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TAKE HER, WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE, NOT HELPFULL, SHE DOES NOT ENCOURAGE STUDENTS, BUT BRINGS THEM DOWN IN THE MOST HORRIBLE WAY. SO DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!! TAKE HER.
I have no problems with her teaching style at all! Her class is only hard because of the subject! There's A LOT of information in BioPsychology!! Her tests are difficult, but that's the nature of the subject. Otherwise, I like her dark humor! Very funny and thought provoking teacher/class! :)
i was a psych major then changed after having her to business major,,,she is way too tough and her test are hard yout think the index card helps it does not..if you're not a science nerd psych major then take someone else...can't they come up with an easier better teacher uh say..i would so agree
DO NOT TAKE THIS WITCHES CLASS!!! by far the hardest class at SMC. She doesn't teach on what she talks about and she had the most boring lectures. IF YOU TAKE HER CLASS YOU WILL FAIL!!!!!! i have one of the highest grades in my class and i'm barely pulling a B.
Extremely hard class! Teacher makes people feel stupid on 1st day, by saying "I never took Psych classes, I read books on my own and thought they were soo easy." Not every one has her special gift! Tries to be cool "not!" Worse teacher ever! I was interested in this class until I met her. Test are hard multiple choice questions. Confusing!!!!!!!
I liked her at first, but gradually came to dislike her. Sage, does not belong in a community college. I appreciate her wanting a higher standard, but she does not provide the enviroment for that type of teaching, ie: essays, or help with extra credit. Her class is as miserable as is she. She is out of touch with her students.
I'm an international student and my English is still not so good; so class was very hard for me. She knows the subject but she's confusing. Although I got two A's and my final grade was B I cannot tell you what you'll expect from the tests. She tells what she's going to ask but do not rely on her. I still don't understand how I got those A's and B'
difficult class because of the material. i took her during summer she allowed flashcards during exams. multiple choice with hard questions. curved grades. if u study hard you can manage to pull a B in the class. hard class though 2 friends of mine had to take it 3X! I got a B and im happy i did it is such a hard class! nice teacher & pretty too
Simply by THOROUGH studying, I got an A. But honestly, I probably retained about 10% of everything I learned in that class. But it's not about learning facts and concepts; Sage's style teaches you the discipline of studying, of analytical thinking, and time management. And these are invaluable lessons that you will benefit from more than the con
I'm taking her class in the Winter Session. The professor herself is pretty kind, funny, and very knowledgeable in what she's talking about. Mostly what she does in class is lecturing and relates some of the history with the class materials, in which I think it's very interesting. The test is not that hard if you really study for it.
She never reviews any material....HARD, DO NOT TAKE!!!
Fairly difficult test, you really need to think about what the textbook is trying to say, and what she's trying to say in lectures. Although, if you attend class every day, and do well on the in-class assignments, you'll be fine. If you're really into psychology, take her, because she does lecture well.
Read your book and all of the assigned material. Understand it and then read it again. Try and grasp what the main point of the course is and you will do well. Her tests are hard and she does not give any prep or hints. She is not a very encouraging teacher either, so don't expect her to have mercy on you. You have to make the grade yourself.
I loved this class. Dr.Sage is wonderful and her class is really interesting. She has a really interesting personality and is definatly not boring. Shes fun and goofy and keeps you interested. And she really knows what shes talking about. You have to work hard, but its worth it. She is very good, and is an excellent proffessor.
Dr. Sage is amazing. Her lectures are interesting and informative. I don't know why people said the previous things, she is easy as long as you read the material, as with any class! Take her, she knows what she is talking about. Trust me, I talked to friends from other colleges and they were amazed at my knowledge. She is the ideal teacher.
She 's very friendly and helpful if you don't underdatnd the material...but her class has more to do with biology than psych. Her study guides sometimes don't really help you prepare well for her exams.
I took this in the Summer. Some of the material in this class is not so easy to grasp right away, however if you read he book it might answer your questions. The exams are pretty hard. I think in order to get an A you have to memorize word for word most of the key concepts/scenarios
I love Dr. Sage, but she is too HARD! She is a great teacher though. Very clear and extremely friendly. I think its just the way the class is taught because I received several warnings from other professors and Doctors. They all said the class is pretty tough no matter who the instructor is. Although I struggled, I still learned alot from her.
Prof, Sage is great. I took Evol. Psych over Summer, & even going to class 2+ hrs a day Mon-Thurs didn't dull the material. You have to keep up with the reading. Read the ch BEFORE you come to class & you'll do well. Her tests are challenging, but she knows it & grades on a curve plus they only count for about half of your final grade. GOOD CLASS
She is amazing in what she does. Tests are tricky and you have to understand the concepts clearly to ace them. All the test questions are multiple choices. Usually 30 to 40 questions can get it done in 40 mins. She's funny and she makes her lectures interesting. There are discussions that count for a lot of points so you should be willing to talk.
Odd thing straightaway is that she teaches evolutionary psych. from a religious perspective. This is why she doesn't believe macroevolution, which is a tenet of evo. psych. Please read the text for this class and don't listen to the biased parts of lecture; it's one of the best texts, and a testament to how insightful evo. psych is. TAKE PHILLIPS
Dowload and print the notes she has on Ecompanion! She jams a lot of info into her class so time to ask questions is sort of limited.Make use of her office hours and emailing her.You have to read your textbook, usually two chapters a week, otherwise you will do poorly. She tries to give the best grade she can with extra points and other tricks.
Dr. Sage is wonderful. She is really passionate about psychology and it comes through in her lectures. Reading the text is a must for the tests, but it's the best textbook I've read. Sage is very interesting to listen to when you get used to her voice. = The negative comments come from people who are too lazy to study!
Damn, good class. Tough, kinda fast, but very interesting. A lot of reading. fun teacher. Do it!
Good teacher. Well organized.
huge mistake. she messed up my gpa. talks too much about her dogs. talks and talks and talks the whole class period. her books are useless and boring. didnt learn a thing. i hate her.
SHE IS ONE OF THE MOST BORING AND DISORGANIZED LECTURER WHO DOES NOT FOLLOW THE ORDER OF THE BOOK TO MATCH THE OLD OUTLINE SHE HAS!! SHE MUST HAVE A MENTAL PROBLEM ! SHE TALKS DOWN TO SOME STUDENTS, SAYS WEIRD REMARKS ALL OF A SUDDEN AS IF SHE ALSO HAS THIS INNER TALK WITH HERSELF!! STAY AWAY FROM HER! HER VOICE IS AWFUL TOO!!
This teacher is terrible!!! she makes class very boring. psych 1 is supposed to be an intro class and she talks about evolution...wth?? if you want to go to class and wish you were in bed, take her...her class sucks!
This class is so hard for a psych 1 class!!! we have an entire book on evolutionary psych! She also screams when giving her lectures, makes weird remarks, and sometimes talks down on students. She is intimidating and not helpful at all! Warning: do not take this class!!!
i highly advise anyone who needs to take psych 1 for credit to not take her. i'm in her class right now and i'm barely keeping a C. her multiple test questions make NO SENSE (there are always ambiguous answers/ 2 or more of the answers could work to answer the question) the group class discussions also are HIGHLY subjective. find another teacher!
Material is very interesting (gives you new ways to view world)!! BUT difficult. You have to really understand the big picture to get a good grade: "how does it help our reproductive success?" Though currently getting an A, majority seems to get C or below. DONT TAKE HERS IF NOT INTERESTED IN PSYCH.
You learn new things on tests. Only 1 "A" in a class of 30; ridiculous. Everything she lectures on has nothing to do with everything on the tests. If you like receiving low grades, this class is perfect.
horrible teacher. do not take her. she is no good. she said "its normal" for people to fail which is not even the people who do great in other classes. she really does not care about her students. she wants everyone to fail. u ask for help she gives you a look like "your stupid and how can u not get the material." shes no help at all
DR. SAGE is with out a doubt the most and indescribably horrible teacher to EVER walk the planet. its like bieng taught by a dinosaur. just bcuz the dino is huge, and has a PH.d they see others as stupid biengs and wont give any help at all. she lies to you about tests and switches it up last minute. she has no regard for anyone.
Worst teacher i have ever had in my life. Try dropping the class and she will blow you off like you never asked. Teaches extremely fast and is very unclear. No matter how hard you study and devote to preparing for her tests its pointless because they are unclear and are on different material than lectures. FIND ANOTHER TEACHER ASAP.
OMG!!! She was the worst teacher I've ever ever ever had!! She is so boring!!! And her tests are SUPER hard! She doesn't help prepare you for the tests! She just says read the book and you should be fine. That's nuts!! It's like you have to memorize the entire f'ing book to know what she's gonna test on. She also makes you late for your next class!
Dr. Sage is a rare combination of extroversion and intellectualism. Lectures are engaging. Make sure you do the readings, understand the logical connection between concepts, and participate in class. do not show up late on exam day - she HATES that. Essay questions/ group discussions are harder -but she is willing to answer any of your questions.
I highly recommend her if your actually interested in Psych. She is by no means easy but she teaches a some what different curriculum which I found extremely interesting. You need to do the reading for her tests, but she gives u her class notes on eCompanion. Also she drops ur lowest test and gives u a note card to write anything on. Recommended.
worst professor i've ever had. she blabs with an annoying voice the entire class time, then sends you home to read- assigns no homework which makes it impossible to learn her grading style- even after reading the material and studying you will be sure to fail. 90% of the class is currently failing. not an exaggeration. find a different professor
I think every negative comment you read about Dr. Sage is from students that are looking to get an easy pass to their degree. If you are lazy, not interested in learning, or just plain dumb, don't take her, you will fail the class for sure. If have have some intelligence, and are willing to put in some hard work, then you will learn a lot. She's
Once you get over the initial annoyingness of her voice, she's not that bad. This isn't an easy class for the typical smc student, you need to study. Half the class is failing, but she does curve and drop your lowest test score. She doesnt give any extra work like essys or projects, which is great
If you are not willing to put in the work, do not take this class. You WILL fail. If, however, you take excellent book notes, take excellent lecture notes, and make flashcards for the key terms, you'll do just fine. She drops your lowest test and curves the test. Just a side note: Myself and 5 other students have an A. The rest have D's and F's.
I read the reviews and thought I was smarter and different. I have all A's and had to drop and get a W because this was definitely a C or below class for me. Take her if your a chemistry or anatomy genius. I wouldn't recommend for someone interested in social sciences.
Probably the hardest professor I've had at SMC. Test are very hard, and she curves grades. Her lectures emphasize on details. You need to memorize TONS of information. Studying REALLY hard, and doing the homework helps on the tests. If you're not willing to work hard, don't take this class.
It is true, this is a hard class, you need to study like crazy and I did. Prof. Sage didn't give a clear outline of what she expected us to learn. When asked, she often responded, "know what's in the book." She acted annoyed when questions were asked of her. Ruined my 4.0 GPA. I had the 3'rd highest average in the class and still got a B.
Do no take this class! She expects way too much without teaching the students. Take someone else.
ppl- this isn't a comm class this is biopsych...for the range of topics she must cover, and the depth of detail that SHOULD be covered, she teaches in a way that is approachable and doable for even lazy-ish students. You need to put in work, no doubt, but shes a great and passionate teacher, one of those we r spoiled to have at a jr college. -Fred
This is a hard class, no doubt. However, Prof. Sage give very clear lectures with PowerPoint and videos. She doesn't take role, but if you miss a class you are SOL - everything she says is of extremely importance. She curves the grades and allows us to take a note card to the exam. Take her class if you want to learn, don't if you want an easy A
Sage is wonderful! Despite the negative reviews you may have read here, she's really not that difficult. The class and its concepts are what is difficult. The negative reviews here are probably from people expecting an easy A and a course that's not challenging or stimulating. She's entertaining and dorky and loves the subject. Highly recommended.
Professor Sage isn't bad at all, the subject on the other hand are difficult. She warns you on the first day of class that this class is not easy and should not be taken lightly. The class itself is more of a biology class than a psych class. You definitely need to read and reread the textbook to get a good grade. I did this and got an A.
Super friendly and laid back, kind of dorky, though the material can be challenging at times. Make sure to read/study and you'll be fine. Sometime oddly cute about her too.. just saying!
She is one of those teachers that tries to trick students on tests. She will put little focus on something in class and then focus 1/5th of the test on it.When you ask her a question her answers are so ambiguous that it leaves you more confused than before. She is pretentious and has forgotten her sole job is to TEACH! Do not take her class!
amazing passionate teacher! Very animated and enthralling, never boring or dull class. Shes a rare teacher these days. Shes passionate about psychology and an excellent instructor. She reminds me of a dorky Robin Wright-Penn. Lots of character. Take her, shes incredible. Quiz's aren't easy but read the material and study and your good.
In all honesty, she is one tough professor. You have to put a lot of dedication into the class and its not an easy A. Sometimes lectures can be boring because she makes little details important. She won't tell you what is on the exam, so you should read your textbook and come prepared for a challenge. Your grade is based on exams and some homework.
She's a VERY good teacher for those that are dedicated to learning ALL the material and not just enough to get by. She is thorough but if you want to understand the lectures you have to read the material assigned BEFORE class and thoroughly or you will be asking questions obvious to others. she is very clear and will answer any questions you have.
Psych major? Take this class. This was one of the most challenging yet rewarding classes I've ever taken. Her passion came through in every lecture and she's quite the expert in her field. Definitely overqualified for SMC. For this quality of an education, $26/unit is very much worth it. By the end of the course, you'll know your stuff!
To be honest by far one of the hardest classes I have taken and I am a Psych major. It is true however that you do learn a lot however, do not underestimate the amount of hours required to study for each exam. Best advice is to not only read through the chapters once but twice maybe even a third time because the information is so detailed.
The materials are very challenging... she throws a lot of curveballs in her exams so you'll really have to understand what you have read in the textbook. Perhaps I was lucky, but I somehow got away with a mid-B while missing almost half of the lectures. But do attend them because they help a lot. I did a lot better on exam when I attended lectures.
EXCELLENT and AMAZING professor (you WILL learn a lot) but she's under the impression that we're all psych majors and seems to forget this is an intro to psych class. Tests are honestly more difficult than they should be, and there's no rubric for the TIMED team discussion worksheet packets that no one in my class ever finished. Unfair grading.
Fun in lectures but is a HARSH grader. I feel like I understand what im learning in class but when it comes to the exams, I just totally blank out. Her class discussions are out of 10 points, and usually people only get 5 or 6. No one knows how this teacher grades because she's such a harsh grader. Her class is fun, but ughhh exams are just harsh.
Sage was an excellent instructor. The course she taught was over the summer so it was intensive and jam-packed. She makes lectures meaningful with relevant stories to make the concepts stick. I definitely would recommend.
Worst teacher I've ever had at SMC (if you can even call her a teacher). Expects you to know everything before-hand. Talks a lot in lectures and makes jokes but teaches you mostly information that you will not be tested on. If you take this class, prepare to essentially teach yourself Psych 1 with the book and little help from the teacher.
Not easy. Prof is knowledgable but allows few ?s in class. Need 2 know the book well and lectures; grade is based on both. Group class discussions tough b/c many students don't prepare b4 and time limit 2 short. Exam ?s sometimes unclear. Subj matter really interesting. Assumes students know biology b4 this class. Cls s/b more interactive.
She is really an incredible professor. I took her in Fall 2010 for psych 2. She is truly talented at explaining the processes in the course, and is extremely thorough. I probably gained the most knowledge in her course from any I took. That being said, she is extremely thorough, and it is a tough course. She's also very nice to students.
Loved the class but it was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. Took it over the summer so it was even more intense. Exams are hard and she grades assignments verrry hard
This was the hardest course I have ever taken, coupled with the worst teacher I've ever had. No clear expectations for exams. No study guide, no guidelines for what to expect. Lecture is not comprehensive. Tests are insanely difficult, covering things that were never mentioned in class or in online lecture notes. Do not take this professor!
She may not be the easiest professor ever but I found that refreshing. She actually acts like a college professor and expect her students to behave as college students. She makes very difficult material not only possible to be learned, but fun. If you want an easy A don't take Dr. Sage's class. However if you want knowledge, there is no one better.
Really, all you have to do is study some. The group work is graded quite harshly, but if you do well on the tests, you should be fine. Pick your group wisely! I recommend forming a study group and reading your textbook. I got an A doing just that.
Possibly one of the nicest professors you will ever meet, I found Sage to be very good at lecturing and going over the material for each chapter. The class is definitely a challenge, especially when it comes to her tests, but if you just read the book, take notes, study the worksheets and ASK QUESTIONS you'll be fine.
She hates when students ask her contradictory questions, she never answers your question. Grades extremely hard. Her tests have nothing to do with the study guide. All her answers are right you just have to choose the BEST answer which is very time consuming!!! Regret taking this course.
Before you enroll, you may want to confirm her history of grading. [smc /grade distribution]. lets see.1 A, 9? Cs, 11? Fs.Psych 1, 2010.seriously. go check.as someone from her P2 said 'Shes nuts, I worked my a-- off for a C'.
Very Difficult class. In order to do well, you must go to every class and read the book before class. Although it is very difficult to get an A in this class, I learned more from this class than from others. If you wish to learn the material, this is the class for you. If you wish to get an easy A, I would avoid Prof. Sage.
The class is difficult and requires you to both take lecture notes and read in detail, however she does not teach as detailed as she tests. The class is more than fair with adjusted scores, an index info card pr. test, and free points for showing up on movie day (who skips movie day?) BUT it is DIFFICULT & she grazes over info often. You must DIY
the material is definitely challenging, but its those harder classes that push you to do better too.If at times you don't understand Prof Sage is more than willing to stay after class and help you understand. She's very helpful , nice and just wants you to apply yourself the best you can .I don't understand why she would get low ratings for that .
i took this class 4 years ago.. and since then taken many many anatomy, bio, and psych classes. this class has be far was the most difficult. but it definitely prepared me for the worst and i still remember and use a lot of the material i learned from it. i loved it. i studies my butt off and got a B. it was worth it! MEMORIZE THE READING!
I Really loved her lectures, but she is a hard grader, and parts of her tests require you to memorize book passages...word for word. I also didn't like that she would put us in groups and 'group-grade' us on some projects, so if you get stuck with someone who's not doing their share of work it hurts your grade. Very few A's.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! She's tough, but it's a good challenge. Save time with note-taking by printing out the lecture notes from eCompanion, then add additional notes during class. Take notes, do the assignments & read the chapters, you'll easily get an A.
Class notes are pretty useless, the test is completely based on the book. Discussions are graded really harshly.
Sage is a little nerdy and very dry. I think people misconstrue those traits as mean. She can be very short, but she's nice. It’s important to do the readings for tests. Class discussions are graded very harshly to start, but she eased up a bit. There was only 1 A in my class. I recommend this class if you’re a smart student who usually does well.
Took biological psychology over the winter and this was the most fascinating psychology class I've ever taken. Its very challenging and you must know everything in the book including tables and diagrams. You are allowed to bring 1 index card with notes to exam. I recommend this class only to A students (science major) because its more bio then psyc
Grades really hard. Her tests are hard as well. Lectures are ridiculous. Not very helpful
Prof Sage is a total nerd--but in the best way possible. Her enthusiasm for this class totally shows in her lectures. She clearly knows her stuff, and can be a little condescending if you ask questions. She is organized and prompt in returning papers. Class discussions will hurt if you don't take them seriously. Read textbook to do well on tests.
*WINTER COURSE* Our course title was Psych 1 but she decided she has the power to change it to Evolutionary Psychology. I studied for the tests, made notes, and still failed the exams. My group was focused and completed our work but we still received bad grades on our discussions despite her saying we did well. No extra credit offered. 4 exams only
She is tough and you have to really on her tests you have to put what is the MOST correct answer, but you learn a lot! Fun lectures, she knows what she is talking about and she makes lecture fun. Did not like the group discussions, they are a bit too hard and graded harshly, but she let you grade your discussion partners which helps.
Most difficult class& she doesn't make it easy.u have 4 exams&1Final(50 cumulative Qs&50 on recent chaps)u r allowed to bring 1 3x5 flashcard to each exam(final 2)but that is NO help. no study guide. lecture is pointless. EVERYTHING from book. word for word. no HW no project. she doesn't care if u pass. i had 35 ppl in my class, at the end had 9...
She is very nice teacher but her class was tough. She talks a lot about the material but doesn't really explain it in a way for it to make sense. It's a lot of the brain which made it even harder. Tests can be easy if you really study ! But other than that her class was difficult.
She doesn't engage with the class. The material is taught with no clear examples. I was very active in studying hard for her class and got an F, took it again the next semester with another professor and got a B.
Super hard class
Please, prospective students, BEFORE you enroll consider the 'grade distribution reports' that are available at SMC. PLEASE do that. if you care about GPA and graduating etc. 38 people yes 38 got D-F-W and TWO got an 'A'. If you are brilliant with BioPsych reviews say she teaches P1 as 'evolutionary' aka Bio psych GO FOR IT!!!
Prof Sage is extremely misunderstood! She is actually hilarious and lectures are interesting if YOU are interested and can keep up. She makes you work for it, but is fair and will see if you are trying. I've learned so much this semester, I love her evolutionary perspective, it makes ALOT of sense. Would def take again!!!
ALERT- Can't study 10+ hrs or aren't passionate about the brain? Don't take. Prof Sage is super quirky. Study based on the book, not the lectures. Exams are based SOLELY on the reading, so pay attention to fine detail. Drops one exam. Don't expect an easy A here. Can be snarky when answering questions, but ask anyway! Take if serious about neuro
Worst class I have EVER taken. Extremely difficult, unclear, and frankly, she is very rude. Don't take this class unless you're prepared to do nothing but study and read, and even then you probably won't pass.
I think she's challenging, but it is a VERY difficult topic.
I originally signed up with a diff professor, got switched to her last minute. All she wants to do is hear herself talk and does not even test on her lectures. There are assigned group partners for discussion worksheets. For most of them, I had to do all the work but everyone in the group got the same credit for it.
I am finishing Psych 2 and I have never had a more difficult professor than her, she is not open to questions in fact I felt very shut and stupid when I did not understand material. She does not test on lectures and does not highlight what she will test on. I could say more I would but if you must take a class with her prepare to teach yourself.
Really smart and a really funny teacher. Her lectures are interesting, however, the tests are based solely on the reading material. Be prepared to memorize every obscure little detail in the book, because you never know what you will be tested on, no study guide. You have to work really hard, but she gives extra credit and drops the lowest test.
Please don't take this class if you are not willing to teach yourself. Please dont email her if you are wanting a response from her. Her attitude is repulsive and shes not helpful.
Not good at her job. Takes something basic and makes it overly wordy and unclear (she is unable to simplify concepts). When asked a question, she repeats her statement verbatim from book and lecture and does not elaborate. No proper prep for tests or discussions. She is extremely uninspiring and doesn't seem to know any students even half way in.
I took professor sage for my first semester at SMC. The textbook used was an absolute dream and the chapters are relatively short. She also gives a study guide for exams!!! Make use of her office hours if you have any questions, she is really helpful to those who put in the effort.
She makes a simple concept into a nightmare to learn... Her lectures teach you nothing. She's rude with an inability to relate to her students & seems to be highly socially awkward. Do not take this class unless you are willing to teach yourself from a textbook. I can't see her pass rate to be very high overall. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS /PROFESSOR!
Her tests are almost completely from the book, forcing you to read and take notes on every chapter. She has "group discussions" which are extremely hard to do well on and takes attendance every class. If you can avoid her, please do. If you can't, it's not the end of the world, just be prepared to put in extra work.
One of the worst teachers I've had. Doesn't care at all about her students or if they do well. Extremely rude and made me feel extremely stupid when I asked a question. Emailed her 4 times asking for an assignment and never got a response. Lectures entire class, over complicates, doesn't explain, extremely unhelpful. Would never recommend her.
Her lectures do not compliment the book at all. She makes concepts more confusing rather than clarifying them and does not provide relevant examples that build on the material presented in class. Her quiz and test questions are unclear and tend to focus on minor irrelevant details rather than emphasizing core concepts. Unapproachable also. Avoid
This class is one that you have to work for. The professor packs in an incredible amount of information into every lecture, and you will feel smarter each time you walk out. Professor Sage is extremely intelligent and she genuinely wants her students to succeed.
a year or 2 ago our PhD had 2 class offerings in one term. Both were dropped for lack of interest. word has gotten around about how tough her grading is?? maybe?
She does not handout test back with correct answer sheet. Which is fine since she lets you come to her office to look at answer key but its not ok if you wish to incorporate your wrong answers into your next test study. Tests are very difficult and language is confusing
I loved her teaching because the way she talked really caught my interest. It may be a little intimidating when you go up to ask her questions but her responses are usually pretty clear-cut. Her lectures are fast but very clear because she explains everything to the very last detail. It's a hard class and should not be taken during summer but great
Worst teacher ever especially for such a hard subject. She doesn't answer any emails and is very rude. Don't take her you're gonna regret it!
Professor Sage is a trash professor. She refuses to make corrections even if you provide proof from the book that the answer is incorrect. She is rude and does not care about students. Her instructions are ambiguous and she provides no guidance. She wants students to read her mind for assignments. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Prof Sage is brilliant. One of the most knowledgable people i've ever met. interesting background, multiple masters degrees and her PhD in neuropsychology. the name 'psych 2' is deceptive. it's not one level above general psych... there's no comparison. VERY difficult course, studied 25 hours per week minimum, set curve often, A- in class.
Class was insanely difficult. Lectures are useless, read the textbook. Exams (with proctorio) are multiple choice but very difficult. Gives a big curve and drops lowest exam grade. Test averages were very bad, Prof did nothing to fix it. I was interested in the topic and had prior knowledge. that and the big curve were the only reason i did okay.
Professor Sage is a very difficult professor to deal with both as a grader and as a person. She is very unsavory when responding to emails and seems to talk down to people with questions. She changes the course mid-term and the syllabus given at the beginning of course, does not reflect that. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Gives you 1 hour+ video recordings on topics completely different from the textbook readings. Tests were horrible and the only good thing was that she curved them a lot (bc every1 failed). Horrible with emails and replying, and gives you confusing group projects where half the kids don't even do the work. All the kids I knew were failing her class.
If you want a good grade, you will WORK for it. In this class, it's almost impossible to do well without doing homework, reading, and fully understanding the work. I took this in the summer semester and we had four homework assignments, five scheduled tests.
Even though I received a good grade, I strongly believe this professor should stick to making TedTalks as that's how long her lectures are. She decided to change the way she grades on the last week of the semester. It is unfair to the students who were barley surviving of a C. Take everyone's advice and don't take her save your GPA.
Unfortunately, I found this class to be quite unfulfilling. I watched the lectures however most of the information presented was irrelevant. Definitely rely on the textbook and each other (your fellow classmates) to succeed. I barely passed with a B as she changed her grading criteria last minute. Do the extra credit! It will benefit your grade.
I took psych 2 for credits to transfer, but it's no where near my major. Lectures are long and exams are graded by a curve. Lectures are different from book material and only cover a bit of the hw. The thing that threw me off the most is that this professor did not want to give out study guides and said we can purchase them instead.
Her class is based on group discussions. She does not grade you based on class material knowledge but group collaboration. Her lectures are unclear, exams are an hour for 40 questions, unclear questions are not based on lectures whatsoever. She is by far the worst professor I've had. Gives horrible feedback! Avoid her
STAY AWAY! I'm a STEM major with two years under my belt at SMC. I have all As except for the B Professor Sage gave me. She is the worst teacher I've ever had. All of her materials and studies are from the 1990's / Her study guides don't match her tests / Her tests are convoluted and confusing, / She doesn't respond to emails. I could go on and on.
Her lecture slides were always empty except for terms so if you wanted to review anything from the lesson you had to rewatch her videos multiple times. We were mostly given group projects too so if the answers weren't "perfect" your score would get worse. Her study guides weren't very helpful either. The only thing on them was hundreds of terms.
Loved the evolutionary approach, challenged my thinking and allowed me to see myself in a more reflective lens regarding the history of human nature. Didn't watch a single lecture and got an A. The group projects were ridiculous and her grading was way too harsh. You must love solo reading about psychology to enjoy this course.
Professor Sage was awful. Most of your grades depended on other students participating with group projects. She took a long time to respond to emails, and her lectures are virtually irrelevant to the tests. Only way to pass tests is reading the textbook. I would not recommend her to anyone unless you want to listen to her tedious lectures. 0 Stars.
Save your GPA and don't take this class. She only gives 80 minutes for a 100 questions test.
I took this professor during Fall 2021 and I highly recommend. When I took this course I was a biology major but now I'm a psychology major. Exams are hard but if you read the textbook, watch the lectures, and ask questions you'll definitely pass this class.
Honestly dont take her at all .She will not respond to your comments on ur work, she gives attitude with her grading , she doesn't do any extra credit, her grading is EXTRA strict and the questions that be on the study guide WILL NOT , LET ME REPEAT!! WILL NOT BE ON THE TEST. save yourself now and dont take this horrible class
Absolutely avoid at all costs. Professor Sage posts the textbook pages upside down and the course is extremely disorganized. Be prepared to take exams that include information on evolution, biology, modern world and history.... barely any content tested on psychology. No quizlets/online resources exist for this class. Albert Einstein couldn't get A
I don't recommend taking her classes if you don't actively plan to put in time to study. She expects you to know specific details of the text and her study guides aren't really helpful. Her lectures are sometimes confusing so the textbook will be your best friend in this class. Again, if you think you can't put in the time, don't take this class.
Professor Sage is so unreasonable. You get 100 questions (80 mins) for tests and 150 questions (2 hours) for the final. Her test answers are so specific that it doesn't correlate with the textbook at all. DONT TAKE HER PLEASE! SAVE YOUR GRADE!
This professor is so unhelpful and dedicated to make you struggle the lectures were terrible, boring, and ungraspable so much information and there are assignments that do not even correlate to the exams which you have 100 questions to complete in 80 minutes .
Just don't take it, save yourself.
The assignments she gives you are low-resolution copies which makes it difficult to answer correctly. I find that the assignments and tests do not correlate with the lectures and the required textbook. She grades on a curve for tests, which can be attributed to the quality of teaching. This class ruined my GPA. Avoid if you can.
Please do not take this course.
Teacher is unreasonably difficult. Feels like she wants you to fail. You don't even have time to properly read the questions on the exams. 100 questions 80 mins. I was so stressed out, I didn't learn anything. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Avoid this course unless you're prepared to struggle. The tests are unreasonably difficult, and the lectures don't align with the textbook. Use Unstuck study and work with classmates to get through this one.
Really hard weekly assignments that answers are supposed to be in lecture notes and textbook, but then have conflicting answers in both places. Unclear what she expects for answers on video assignments and graded so harshly. Tests are hard, but they are open book/open note. No forced participation on boards with other students, which is awesome.
Save yourself the headache by not taking this class. Tests are unreasonably difficult, time limit makes it impossible to read anything (120 mins for 160 question final w/ multiple diagrams). Doesn't really teach, just gives you some slides, and the material usually doesn't match up to the assignments and exams anyway. Take another class if you can!
Don't do it bro. This class almost broke me. I am a straight A student I ended with a 79.5 but because She dropped the lowest test grade I as able to clutch the B. Doesn't help at ALL. Even with questions and impossible to reach. Its all hw and test dependent, and she helps on neither only about 5% of the "lecture" and textbook books helps.
