Great teacher and actually explained concepts and helped us learn. Highly reccomend her for a teacher. I think she mainly teaches chemistry lab. And she's nice.
Becky Socia was a fabulous Micro lab teacher. She was so helpful, always gave her best in answering questions, and liked the students. I highly recommend her. She grades fairly, and always explains everything. Super nice!
Becky is an awesome lab instructor. She is willing to help in and outside of lab, and is very approachable and knowledgeable.
Professor Socia is one of the most amazing instructors I have ever had. She is so helpful outside of class and willing to help you understand anything you do not know. I would highly recommend her to anyone taking chemistry labs
Becky is the best teacher I have ever had. I wish that she taught chemistry lectures as well. She is very engaging and keeps you interested. You have to apply yourself for a good grade but she is there to help you learn. She's an awesome teacher and I highly recommend her.
I truly enjoyed her lab class; she is very helpful and has an approachable personality, I highly recommend her classes.
I liked Becky a lot, she was really laid back and was willing to help.
She's such a helpful professor, and even helps you with lecture when you do not understand it. Honestly, she is the reason I even understood lecture, and would go to her for help. Her labs are straight to the point. She is very patient when you don't understand a concept, and will do whatever it takes until you do. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Professor Socia makes Chemistry fun and easy to understand. She is a teacher who will go the extra mile to help you. She makes Chemistry fun, and I would highly recommend her class! She is an excellent teacher who really cares about her students understanding the concepts. She wants you to succeed, and if you put in the work you will!
Amazing teacher. She is so much fun to have as a professor and you can tell that she loves her students and loves her job. Professor Socia really cares about each one of her students success and will do whatever she can take make sure you leave her class understanding everything you need to. She is amazing! I recommend her for Chemistry 101 Lab.
Very approachable and will take time out of her day to help you with anything. Fantastic teacher in how she teaches and goes through in detail of exactly what we need to know.
This teacher is the only reason I am passing Chem. She is amazing and makes the assignments right to the point, don't expect busy work. She is always eager to help.
Professor Socia is very sweet, funny and an amazing professor. She is there to help, gives great examples and explanation to her lectures. Some of the material covered is not easy but she makes it easy! Participation is key, miss a class and you have missed a lot of information. She has lots of office hours and is happy to help students, love her!
Professor Socia is a very nice woman and is very smart, but her lectures are long and sometimes go so far off topic that you don't have any information for the quiz that would be the next class. Learning on your own is definitely important for this class, but she knows what she's doing and is always willing to help.
Professor Socia was a great teacher! She is really comfortable to talk to and is willing to help her students. I would recommend her to anyone! Socia is very friendly and cares about her students. The material that is covered in this class isn't easy, but it is definitely manageable to get a good grade if you take the time and study.
She is an amazing teacher! She is someone who truly wants her students to succeed. She explains things very in depth, and if you still dont understand she will take the time to help you! Probably the nicest teacher I have ever had! I was dreading taking chemistry but she made it fun and easy to learn!
Professor Socia has been one of my favorite professors. She gives fascinating articles that are optional to read that relate chemistry to your major. She was very helpful but I had a hard time getting in contact with her outside of class. She is very kind and understanding. Would definitely recommend and take this class again.
Socia is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. She knows her stuff, and knows several ways to explain it if you don't understand one. The curriculum as it's written is difficult on its own, but she makes it not so bad. She will throw out quiz questions if too many students misunderstood. She takes tons of personal time for content clinics
Such a sweet lady! go to her office hours because there's not enough time in class but she always is happy to help. she holds review sessions also. but she sometimes talks fast and has to rush. It can be tough to keep up. but she will take the time to explain things. I think this is just a hard class. she gives you plenty of resources though!
As long as you pay attention, you will pass. She can be a little fast add times, but she will explain if you ask and she holds review sessions for each test, so you know she wants to succeed.
Gen chem isn't a strong subject for me, but after seeing her teaching style, it is clear that she is there to help whenever you need her. She really does care for her students and wants them to succeed. In class, it felt like we went through slides really fast and she waited for questions after. CHM115 will make you work regardless of the professor
I love Mrs. Socia! She is one of the kindest people I have ever met and she is willing to work with you no matter what your question is. She has helped me so much in this class; I definitely recommend everyone to take this teacher!
She is very nice, but somewhat awkward. She teaches slow because she wants to make sure everyone understands what she is teaching. If you have taken chemistry already in high school and did decent, this class should be easy.
Basically obsessed with this woman. Thank you for being the best teacher ever. Do not take advantage of her and respect her!!!! Do you really homework, learn from your mistakes, and you will pass. :')
Socia was an amazing professor and really cared about all of her students. She was very approachable and answered questions with the goal of helping you understand, not to just get them out of the way.
Absolutely incredible professor. She will do whatever it takes to help you succeed. I used office hours a lot and it helped my grade tremendously. Seriously love her.
Best professor I have ever had at GCU! She is funny and very caring. She will help her students to succeed! Listen to her when she is talking during lectures she is like a talking textbook. Explains everything so smoothly and perfectly. Easy to understand and makes learning simple. Love her!
Ok, chances are that I'm going to have to retake this course. But, I have to give credit where credit is due. I missed many lectures so I didn't do well in any of my quizzes/tests, and yet... Socia showed compassion and respect towards me (though I didn't deserve it). She is SO sweet and she WILL gladly help if you ever need it or have a question.
Professor Socia was very caring and clearly wanted all her students to succeed. While the lectures seemed fast, it was just part of the class, not her fault. She was willing to work with students outside of class and made sure everyones questions were answered before she left the class.
One of my favorite professors! Walks you through step by step on topics and really makes sure you understand what is going on. She is super sweet and always willing to help. She has a great personality and makes this class fun. I highly recommend her!
The best chemistry professor I have ever had!! She is the most sweetest caring professor I have met. She explains the material extremely well. When she talks during lecture its easy to understand and follow her. Almost as if she was the walking talking breathing textbook. Do the practice worksheets before the quizzes and you will do great!
Prof. Socia is such a funny and spunky woman. She is always willing to help to make sure you are understanding the material. She does go fast through the powerpoints, but stops and asks for questions before moving on to another topic. Do well on the homework and quizzes because they have big impacts on your grade and understanding of chemistry.
Prof. Socia was amazing! I was not looking forward to o-chem, but Prof. Socia made the content very easy to understand. She is very knowledgeable in her field and if you need extra help her door is always open. She also goes out of her way to prepare her students for every quiz and exam with her resources. One of GCU's best!
she is one of the best professors i would take her again
If you are taking chemistry, choose her she is really good.
She genuinely cares about her students and how they're doing. This is the class where I felt it was easiest to ask questions. Her quizzes and tests are fairly easy, but you have to study. As long as you put effort into it and do your homework, you'll be fine. Also, she loves what she does in terms of teaching and chemistry in general!
Dr. Socia was so helpful and really was a good teacher. She made my CHM lab very interesting, understandable, and fairly easy. If you went to class and turned in everything she asked you'll pass with flying colors! loved Socia, she really cared about her students and got to know them.
Professor Socia is the best!! She is so caring, and she is so intelligent. She really knows what she is talking about, and is always willing to help out her students. Her lectures are beneficial, and also quick. So come to class prepared! Overall, she is one of my favorite professors here at GCU! HIGHLY RECOMMEND :)
Professor Socia was a great lab professor. If you show up to class and complete your lab with significant effort, there is no way you won't get an A in her lab class. The only thing that can mess with people's grade is the midterm exam EVERY chmL101 class has to take. Study hard for that exam because it can drop your A. Other than that easy class!
Mrs. Socia is amazing!! She really knows her stuff and she is really kind and caring towards her students. Totally recommend for any class of hers to get into her class! She is available outside of class at her office hours and will explain or look over an assignment! She's great, will be stopping by to her office next semester to say hi!
TRY YOUR ABSOLUTE HARDEST to take socia especially if its been years since you've taken chem! she is so sweet and so understanding. Make sure to put your foot in the door though and attend office hours if you need help. She'll give you literally anything you need from overview of a lesson or extra practice. I'm so thankful I had her.
Make sure you attend office hours to see on ways to improve test grades and youll survive. Participation is everything, sometimes they incorrectly put in your particpation. She is sweet and caring.
Prof Socia is a sweetheart and extremely intelligent. She answers questions clearly and genuinely wants her students to succeed. Follow the course materials and go to every class and you'll do great. Definitely study for the midterm, it's difficult for almost everyone. There's one big lab report at the end of the semester, about 15 pages.
Professor Socia is a sweetheart. I received a B, but only because I was lazy to attend her office hours. She makes herself available to her students at all times. She tries to make her lectures enthusiastic as well. It is an easy class because it is an introduction to all science classes. If you put effort into the class you will pass with an A.
She is accessible outside of class to help explain things. Make sure you pay attention to her PowerPoints in order to be successful on her quizzes. For the projects, her rubric is helpful to look at in creating them. She is very kind and sweet, so I would recommend her!
Professor Socia is one of the most incredible people I've met! She is 100% willing to work something out if you cannot attend a lab class one day. She went above and beyond to help me. She will explain everything clearly and as many times as a student needs until they understand. She is INCREDIBLE. Take her if you can!
Loved her class. Second time I took chemistry and she helped me understand the concepts to be successful in this class. She is dorky in an adorable way and likes to should cute videos to help remember things. I wish I could have her as a professor again.
She's a very sweet lady, but she goes through the matieral really fast. I don't think it's her, I think it's the nature of the course. With homework and practice quizzes, you have to complete like 20-60 questions a week alone. This class is pretty time consuming, but it is a college science course afterall. Be prepared to study and then some.
She is an amazing professor. She is very personable and sweet. She is very knowledgeable in what she teaches and will tell you what you need to know. She offers a lot of practice problems to help prepare for the quizzes.
Best professor I've had in college thus far. She writes the course's outline so you know exactly what to expect, she knows the material very well and has funny quirky ways of remembering it, and she really does care about her students. There's 1 homework and 1 quiz due at the end of each chapter; midtermquizzes 1-4, finalquizzes 5-7. Great prof!
Professor Socia is really good at explaining things. She is always available for office hours and ready to help you understand the material better. She makes things more fun and interesting. Attendance is mandatory in her lab and lecture. If you can, try to take lecture and lab both with her, she ties things together really well.
Great professor! She's very caring and helps you understand the material! Easy access and helps you work through the problems! I would take her again!
I struggled with Chemistry in high school and she made learning a lot easier and attempted to make class "fun." Show up to class and you will do fine.
She made chemistry so easy. She thoroughly breaks down concepts (sometimes making class a little too slow) for students to understand. She also does a lot of example problems in class. Do the homework and you'll be fine.
The lectures are really fast pace but she explains the material really well and provides examples. Getting help from the IA is the best if you do not understand material. As long as you do the textbook homework and complete the questions on the practice packets she gives you will do fine. Quizzes are like the packets she gives.
I highly recommend Mrs. Socia to anyone scheduled to take CHM-101L. Not only is she such a sweetheart but she is also the woman responsible for writing the lab manual that GCU uses for this class so she has mastered how to teach this course. She is a wonderful lady who makes the course as easy as possible while still covering all the material.
Rebecca Socia is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She responds to your emails, does zooms for office hours when you need help, and is very active while in class. During COVID teaching, she did such a great job at making sure everything was taught and you were not stuck having to teach yourself the entire class.
Dr. Socia is an amazing professor! She is so kind and loves every one of her students. She always responds to emails and private fourms and overall one of the best professors I've ever had. I would recomend her to anyone who has to take this class! You will not regret it!
Professor Socia is such a sweet lady and made my 7am much more bearable. You can tell how compassionate she is throughout her lectures. She explains everything very well and will hep you if you don't understand something. Chem is hard but she makes it possible. Tip on the homework the odd numbers are participation so you can request the answer ;)
Dr. Socia is one of the best professors I have ever met. She is so kind and caring and loves each and everyone of her students. I would reccomend her to anyone who has to take this class!
Professor Socia is one of my favorite professors I've ever had! I was so scared to take chem, but having her for both lecture and lab was a wonderful experience! She is so funny and cares so much about her students. The quizzes are broken up so there's not an overwhelming amount of info on them, and she is so helpful in lab. Take her if you can!:)
Socia is such a sweet lady. She really cares for her students and she made a hard class to take over covid way more manageable. The only downside is it's very homework-heavy and lectures and homework don't match up well so you always feel a little lost. Overall Socia made chem less awful than it could have been.
I was so nervous before taking chem and she made this class so easy! As long as you do the homework and ask for some help where you dont understand things you will do fine. She is such a kind lady and is so good at what she does. She is so willing to help you out and she is seriously the sweetest person! Take her class if you can!
I love Socia Rebecca because she is a great teacher. You can tell that she is caring and compassionate. However, she does lecture a lot so it is easy to get lost. Other than that, I would definitely recommend her for CHEM101.
Her lectures are really good and she will go over the topic as many times as you need to make sure you understand it. I will totally recommend this professor to anyone.
I LOVED Socia and her class. She is the sweetest most caring professor I've had. The class was fun and she truly cares about each student learning and succeeding without making things extremely difficult. I wish I could take her for all my chem classes!!
Professor Socia is a very sweet lady but her lectures are heavy and so is the homework. If you put in the time and effort for this class you'll be fine! I was grateful to have her as my professor.
I joined the class late and she was super understanding and really knew how to explain everything. She is one of my favorite professors. There are a lot of group projects and grades them fair. If you are in class and participate in group work you will pass.
Quite literally the worst professor. So much time can be put into studies but quiz grades do not reflect that. Quizzes focus on tedious little definitions rather than the big picture. She will literally go over material 30mins before a quiz that you will be tested on. Not prepared at all. I believe she truly does not set up a student for success.
Professor Socia is one of the sweetest professors I have! She genuinely cares about her students and is always in a happy mood. The class itself sucks and is pointless as hell but it was bearable with her.
Sci-150 is honestly a very tedious class, but she didn't write the course so that's not her fault and I liked her lectures. There was a 5 point participation quiz every day of class based on the readings but she would let us do critical thinking activities instead sometimes. I wouldn't take this class again, but I will take her for CHM-113 lecture.
Although Socia is a lecture heavy teacher, she is one of the most caring teachers here at GCU. She responds quickly and is always able to help you on anything that you don't understand. I used to hate chemistry in high school and didn't understand a lot of things, but Socia definitely helped change my perspective.
Prof Socia is literally the best! She is very kind and knowledgeable about chemistry. She wants you to understand the concept and will help you by answering your question and explain things multiple times. Her class is pretty easy if you like chemistry, I skipped her class somewhat frequently and still got an A. She is your best option for chem101!
This professor was a real gem. She was always there if we needed her after class and was constantly making herself available if we needed assistance. I highly recommend everyone take her if the get the chance.
Professor Socia is a kind, knowledgable, and great instructor and person in general. She is there to help her students however and whenever she can. She is open and honest with the class and does her best to help all of her students to succeed.
Professor Socia is amazing! she is very understanding and prays for her students before every class. She really cares about her students. Attendance is important.
The lectures are so rushed that it is difficult to understand what is being taught. If you enjoy teaching yourself material, this class is ideal for you.
Professor Socia was nice and was available for help outside of class. Chem 101 is overall a difficult class itself especially this semester because they changed how they teach.... this was frustrating because we got one day of lecture and the other day was a work day where we would have to figure it out ourselves. Lots of teaching ourselves....
She does her best to help her students and really cares about their well-being. The structure of CHM-101 across the department changed at the spring semester, which many students struggled with. I think that Socia did a good job at helping her students how she could during this new class style. Weekly participation checks are important.
For such a difficult class she was an amazing professor and I could not have gotten my A without her. She is very easy to reach outside class time and has many office hours. She will help you until you understand and is very caring. An overall fantastic teacher that does not bore you with lectures and is a lot of fun.
Professor Socia was absolutely phenomenal. I really struggled with chemistry in high school, and just the way that she lectured chemistry came easy to me in CHM101 and I was able to pass with an A+ quite easily. She explains things amazingly and truly cares about her students. Can't say enough good things about her.
Ms. Socia was super nice and energetic and leniant but her Sci-150 class felt like a waste of time and money, easier than middle school. I skipped her class a lot but as long as u turn in work you'll get the participation points. She has a lot of office hours and u can tell she rlly cares abt her students. But try to get out of Sci-150
Dr. Socia is a very energetic teacher who clearly cares about her job and her students. She prints out worksheets and notes to hand out to all her students every class. Only problem I have is that she would either rush through a topic too fast or drag it out painfully long, really no inbetween. Overall great teacher.
Professor Socia is a great teacher. She is super nice and caring. The class itself is a pretty boring class but she makes it more bearable.
Prof. Socia is a really good teacher. She's super chill, her class is lecture heavy but she makes it not that bad. The work is simple and consistant. It isn't hard to get an A if you just do the work.
A lot of the grades come from mastering chem so do those! Her exams are pretty straight forward with what to expect. Also, she does have office hours so if you aren't understanding something, USE THEM. Overall her class isn't really that hard and she really does a good job clarifying the material
She's amazingly helpful, you can even ask her unrelated questions concerning the science department, like which professors she recommends. The curriculum is weird and the final test doesn't connect to the content at all but she does a great job teaching what she's supposed to, 100% recommend her.
I really liked her! I would say she is super helpful! Everything in her class is pretty straight forward. The tests in the class are extremely hard I would say, but she tries to help us as best as possible. She definitely cares about her students.
Dr. Socia was extremely nice and super energetic about teaching class. The class itself isnt too hard as long as you put in the work. Definitely take her if you can
She is the sweetest human and an even better teacher. Makes hard material easy. I would review all the packets before exams and got an A in the class. Would recommend.
I only got a bad grade because chemistry is hard for me. Professor Socia is SOO caring and nice. She truly understands chemistry and has engaging lectures. Her exams aren't challenging, as long as you STUDY. Go to her office hours even if you don't need help! She's fun just to be around. Participation isn't mandatory because you get points online.
Professor Socia was one of my favs! she's very energetic throughout her lectures. I missed a few of her classes but as long as you answer discussion questions you will get credit. She is always easy to reach outside of class. She's super understanding. She does do a lot of group work though so beware! SCI150 consists of sharing a lot of ur thoughts
Socia is the sweetest person ever! She's approachable and really cares about each of her students. She wants everyone to understand the material and do whatever it takes to make sure you get the most out of the class. She invites anyone who can't go home for thanksgiving over to her house and understands that we are people not just students.
Professor Socia is the absolute sweetest; she is an amazing professor! She makes getting up for a 7 AM on Friday mornings worth it. She has a clear understanding of the material she's teaching and can explain difficult concepts in an approachable way. The required homework she has isn't busy work and actually helps you learn. Always eager to help!
Professor Socia made my 7am lectures. She was able to grab the classes attention and explain well in detail where people stayed focused. I came in with very limited knowledge of Chem, and I have come out feeling like I can teach it. Would definitely recommend!
mastering chemistry my biggest enemy in this class. it was difficult to understand concepts even after entering office hours. she's a kind person but just be weary that she is not the best teacher
Professor Socia was a great professor who made lectures very enjoyable and engaging. I generally have a very tough time with chemistry, but she was very helpful when explaining concepts and helped to make chemistry itself less grueling. The exams are pretty tough as well so I would carve out a lot of time to study for those
She was alright! Socia is nice but gives very slow paced lectures and insists on doing devotionals which can be very awkward if you're not a christian. My main complaint is that she's nit-picky with grading and therefore I lost my A because of it. However, I've heard that for SCI-150 she's the best option.
she made 7am class fun. you can tell she cares about each of her students and she is more than willing to help anyone who is struggling or needs more explanation. very enthusiastic and knows what she is talking about.
Professor Socia was very sweet, and I loved how she played Christian music before class! I love her personality, however I had a really tough time learning from her. She would answer my questions with a question, and that would frustrate me because I needed someone to walk me through it. Easy study guides yet very hard exams, so that was also hard.
I really like her as a person, she cares about her students. The way she teaches class didn't click with me. There was 5-10 minutes of useful information for every 20-30 minutes of talking. I felt like I was teaching myself outside of class. We would have a lot of homework and she would wait until the Friday before it was due to teach the material.
Professor Socia is great! The class is hard, but she will help you through it. She does have lots of office hours that can be attended if you need help, but I would also recommend going to an ACE tutor as well for extra help. If you work hard and reach out with any questions, then you should be fine!
Socia is a very nice person, but should not be a teacher. She wastes so much in class time talking about random stuff we won't even be tested on and tests on things she doesn't even teach in class. I don't recommend, especially a 7am class. My middle school and high school chemistry teachers taught better. You'll end up teaching yourself a lot.
Professor Socia is a really great person however, she skipped over the important stuff in class and spent way too much time talking about things that we wouldn't get tested on. You can pay close attention in class, take notes, and go to office hours and there are still questions on the exam that we have never heard of.
Prof. Socia was a wonderful professor. She is very skilled in explaining her lectures and attending her office hours is a great way to get one-on-one help. The review guides that she provides are a great way to practice and they are just like the exams. Paying attention and developing good study habits is the key to success in this class.
Socia is a very nice/caring person. I took her course at 7 am because her reviews made it seem like she was good, but i didn't like her teaching style. She rambles on about easy stuff and then rushes important harder stuff. She goes over time/never let us out early. She's smart, but I had to teach myself the material- youtube/cheg were lifesavers.
I would highly recommend taking Professor Socia if you are not the best at math or if you know you will struggle with chemistry. She will help you understand the material better and she will give you many examples and outside resources. Chemistry is a hard subject and the tests are weighted heavily, but it is doable.
Professor Sonia is very kind and genuine. That being said, this course is P1T@ (not really her fault tbf). There aren't a horrible amount of assignments, however there are a few big ones that are all loaded towards the end of the semester which are very time consuming. It's just a lot of work for such a negligible class.
Professor Socia is clearly experienced in chemistry and she is so good at simplifying it to a way that you can understand it. This is a rigorous course so of course it is exam heavy and requires studying, but it is doable if you just try. She is easily accessible on messages and her office hours and IA's are super helpful as well.
Professor Socia was one of my favorite professors this semester. She was passionate about what she taught and went through thick and thin to see her students succeed. I would recommend taking her to any upcoming students.
Professor Socia is an amazing professor. She seems very knowledgable and I would totally take her class again. This class is extremely easy but she keeps students for the entire time. You can immediately tell she has a kind soul and is friendly. She had a few guest speakers which I looked forward to each time. There was a lot of large assignments.
!!!!!If you are taking chem-101, do not take this professor if you have a choice!!!! She is super caring and honestly VERY smart, but although she knows the material, she does NOT know how to teach it. She is not a good TEACHER. You may see all of the good reviews but DO NOT be fooled, for chem-101 take someone else.
she is all lecture, she is an available for office hours most days but they do not help at all. No hints on stuff that will be on test even if you are in there for three hours studying the same thing. Even if you go to class it won't help, better off taking anybody else.
Socia is very highly rated for her chem-101 lectures. I personally didn't love her teaching method and had to use other sources to understand the material being taught. I don't feel like she preps students well for the exams & the aleks homework is useless in regards of the tests. I also don't think her study packets correlated with the exams.
Prof Socia is an amazing woman and teacher. She breaks down the content so you understand it better and gives you time to work on practice problems and ask questions. Participation is very important so you have to go to class almost all the time. I had her for a 7am so it was hard to get up and go but she made it worth it. Exams are hard so study.
She is super kind, upbeat, and helpful, but drags the class out the entire hour 45 when it truly isn't needed. Gives pointless busy work, and participation assignment practically with 5 minutes left. Not many assignments, but if any she gives clear directions for the most part and is very welcoming to help. Final is in person on paper.
She was a very caring, helpful, and positive teacher. The only con was that she used every minute she had for lectures, and normally gave us our attendance assignment in the last few minutes of class. There are only two assignments due every two weeks, so your grade will mostly depend on what you get on the tests.
She was very caring but I found it hard to learn from her teaching style, especially with chem. She lectures the entire class period and I thought she talked pretty fast. I couldn't separate what I needed to know and what she was talking extra about just for fun. It's clear that she knows a lot, I just don't think she does a great job teaching it.
Lectures were very in depth and she did a good job at giving many opportunities to work problems out. I only had one problem with her... she says "KaAaYy" every 5 words and in a very weird voice and it's extremely distracting. Just because she said kay like 100 times during lectures it prevented me from focusing at all.
she is NOT a good teacher. I felt like we did nothing in class (even though she always used the whole time) and the tests were so different than any of the material she had given us. I would study for hours (literally hours) before exams and best I would get was a 70%. I just did not find her lectures helpful or her style of teaching effective.
The class is a difficult class, and she neither made it easier nor harder. The material learned in class often does not appear on exams, and class averages are in the 60s on every exam. There is not much graded, so a not-so-good score on an exam will tank the grade. She talks very fast but is available to help when needed. Read the textbook!
She is a very kind and respected teacher. While the homework and coursework are easy there is a lot. But the problem with this class is that tests are weighed heavily in the gradebook, and multiple times I spent studying over 3 hours just for a 75%. Her lectures are fast and hard to understand of speed. Never tells us what will be on the test.
She very knowledgeable in what she is teaching but it is hard to grasp hard concepts with her. She is a good teacher overall but she rushes hard topics. She is an absolute angel and she is really sweet but half my class had to drop her course in fear of failing. Get ready to put in the time with her class if you want to pass.
This professor was great because they made the material engaging, explained concepts clearly, and truly cared about students' success. Their patience, encouragement, and willingness to help created a positive learning environment that motivated me to do my best.
Professor Socia is a wonderful lady but is a tough grader, when looking at exams most answers would be correct but still missing points. Also textbook notes are so important but only worth 2 points?
Talks too fast while breezing over difficult topics, making it nearly impossible to retain anything important from the lecture. Exams average very low due to the content being completely different than the AI generated study guides she provides as well as poorly executed lectures.
If you fail it is 100% your fault She gives numerous materials and cares about all students CHM-113 is a hard course and she wants you to do well on the ACS exam Lectures are quite heavy on the information side YOU HAVE TO LEARN THE MATERIAL OUTSIDE OF CLASS TOO! she will talk for the whole period super fast without taking a breath so be prepared
Be ready for a quiz every class based on the weekly reading assignment. I think this class for the most part is pretty useless, but covers some important information and helpful tips on graduate school. The assignments and projects take up a ton of time, she's not the toughest grader though. Just stay on top of assignments and be present.
She seems nice but her lectures were so boring. Do yourself a favor and take this online if you can or find another professor. I dropped the class because of how boring it was.
Prof. Socia is very sweet and tries her best to make lectures fun and engaging, I really think it's just the material people don't like. She makes a point to be very accessible in her office hours so students can come and get help. I think chemistry in general is very hard and she is just one of the better teachers out of the ones available.
I would not recommend. Her class is so boring and she lectures and does not do many practice problems. I did all the recommended materials and went into office hours to see how I could improve and she did not help and just said good luck. Her tests are so hard and dont make any sense. I would take this online if you can.
This class itself was very project and quiz heavy, but Social made it doable for sure. She kept us focused and brought a lot of passion and energy to the class. She was a bit if a tough grader sometimes, but very flexible and easy to talk to for sure. Her lectures were fun, entertaining, and interactive, but make sure not to miss a class!
As long as you pay very close attention in class and take good notes, you'll be fine. It's just the content that's hard, but if you take advantage of her office hours and utilitilize class resources like ALEKS, its definitely doable. She cares a lot about her students and wants them to succeed. Very kind and approachable, and brings great energy!
