I took this class during the summer - alot of stuff to learn in a short period of time. Rebecca Thompson was kind and interesting and a very good teacher. She was very fair and always there to help... If you have to take physiology... definintely take her class!!!
Dr. Becky does not teach from the book. As long as you take detailed notes from her lecture you will do well because sometimes you cannot find the answers in the book. Her exams are taken solely from her lecture and the homework. I suggest that you bring a tape recorder to her class. She is an excellent teacher but very fast paced.
Had this professor for both classes(not by choice,by avail of classes). She was horrible. I have alot of medical exp and cought her teaching the wrong things mult times. If you want a accurate/good education take someone else.
I learn sooo much from her... I mean sooooo much!! my intention at the start of this class was ok.. go to class, pretend to listen in class and try to pass with minimal effort as possible but Dr. Becki made class extremely interesting and she unknowingly have given me hope that med/health professions arent only meant for nerds/genius/losers =)
I love Dr. Becki. She is a teacher that really care about her students. I took her in Fall 2006. A&P is a hard class but her grading scale gives everyone a chance. The problem I had with the class is that the terminology she used in lecture was different than what was in the book. I got a C in her class. Overall, I would love to take Dr. Becki clas
awesome teacher. helps students as much as possible. AP is a hard class but what else is new? gives extra credit many times. bring tape recorder.
tape recorder is helpful, i didn't need it. take notes in lecture. gives hints on whats on test. study guides very helpful. xtra credit opportunities including giving blood. very informative and really takes the time to help all students who are serious about subject. IM TAKING HER FOR 145.
as long as you pay attention in class and take good notes, you won't need the book. bring a tape recorder, she likes to talk fast. she gives you study guides about what is on the tests. lots of extra credit. she drops 3-4 quizzes/homeworks. in lab it helps to bring a camera with video for lab, its easier to study. im taking her for bio 145.
Dr. Becki is a great teacher. I had her for summer Bio 144, it's a hard class but she made it enjoyable and doable. Lots of notes taken during this class and there is a lot of info to memorize and learn but it's worth it. Dr. Becki is really helpful and full of info. I would definately recommend taking her!!
Not an easy class by any means but can definitely get a good grade if you are studious, serious and attend class. It's an incredible amount of info to process but definitely necessary especially if you plan to enter the healthcare field. She's extremely helpful and will do whatever she can to make you understand. I am taking her again for 145.
AP is a difficult course , but Dr Becki made the info very clear and kept the interest level high. Her enthusiasm transfers to the students. Every class was so good, I was surprised it was over. She's always ready to help every student & makes us THINK. One of best instructors I have ever had!
This is a great class. I had Dr. Becki for Bio 144 in the summer also. There is a lot of note taking in this class but it's definately not boring note taking. She is very helpful with any questions you may have. Make sure you study for the lab practicals, quizzes, and tests and you'll do fine. It's a tough class but totally worth it.
Dr. Becki is very helpful and most of all, she's fair. If she doesn't discuss something that's on the syllabus, she won't test you on it. Her test are fairly difficult but if you pay attn to her lectures, you'll do fine. (I started taping the lectures midway thru and it helped). This class requires alotta time studying, be prepared.
I'm taking her for summer. Her clas is fun but her test is so hardddddddddddddd.
Dr. Becki's class was fun. I'm not going to lie, it was tough and required a lot of studying, but she is beyond helpful and makes sure you understand the material. She even held a study session before finals to help us even more. I'm looking forward to taking Bio 145 with her in the fall
Dr. B is by far one of the best teachers. For a subject as difficult as Anatomy/Physiology she made it very interesting and made sure you understood. It is a hard class and requires lots of studying but she is fair and will review prior to each test or quiz. You can do well if you put forth the effort. She is there for you and wants you to succeed.
Had her for Lab. in BIO 120. Explained what she wanted for lab papers, then when I wrote them, told me I left out all sorts of information she didn't ask for. The same was true for 90% of my class so watch it. She has "selective hearing" and will leave you feeling slighted if you're intelligent but not emotionally mature yet. I just laughed it off.
Dr. Becky is an awesome professor. The class is difficult but she is there to help you in any way she can. Most of the information on her tests comes from lecture so attendance is crucial. I am so glad I took her for this course. I wouldn't trade her for another professor if you paid me.
Dr. B is amazing!!! She provides detail which really helps for comprehension and real life application. She really drills in important points and is clear in her expectations. She is probably one of the best & most enthusiastic professors I've ever had. If you put in the work and have the real desire to want to learn the subject, you will be fine!
She brags about how hard her tests are. Every single question is designed to be as hard as possible. She expects you to know every tiny detail and if you don't include those details in your answers you will lose points. Be prepared to do A LOT of studying! Overall, she is not trying to help you. She makes it as hard as possible on you.
Her lectures make it seem like the class will be easy (but it's not). Few hw assignments that she grades very easily but they are very confusing, no extra credit, 4 exams, last one cumulative and new info. Her tests are ridiculously hard. She likes to think she's helpful but can't answer any questions directly. Record the lecture or you're SOL
Great lecturer, interesting subject. Collects 5 HW, 4 exams, final is partly cumulative from prior tests, Tests are extremely difficult bc she expects you to know the subject as if you are as knowledgeable as her making them tricky. Book is good for reference - mostly only need power points. RECORD the lectures! 1st two exam class avgs were 67%/68%
She has totally unrealistic expectations. She expects you to know everything out of the book and anything she says. Her tests are the hardest tests I've ever taken. She is not helpful, there is no real study guide, and no extra credit. I would avoid this class if possible.
This class was difficult but the material is difficult. 3 tests (w/ a few extra credit questions), 1 cumulative final, takes 5 top scoring homework, and reading assignments. There was an option to get extra credit if you donate blood. Overall, I really liked Dr. Thompson, her tests are really tricky but her lectures are interesting. Recommend her.
I took Shina for 144 and I recommend her over Dr B. Shina gives you all the possible short answer questions in advance; Dr B doesn't. You will stress over that fact quite a bit. Dr B is a very good professor but the ambiguity of potential short answer questions will stress you out. I scored higher on lecture exams in Shinas class.
BIO 145 was difficult but nothing out of the ordinary for this type of course! Dr.B makes material completely relevant and interesting. Very helpful prof! EC points add up. Don't let yourself fall behind with the material. Definitely, recommend this prof and course!
Freaking loooooooove her. Taking her 145 class next semester. Final is straight from previous test. Provides you with all the need information for each test. Homework pretty simple and straight forward. Give blood for extra credit.
Dr B is an amazing physio prof! I look forward to taking her again for 145 next semester. She is a very good lecturer. You will be interested the whole time. She gives multiple choice and short answer tests. Her multiple choice are tricky but if you know the information you will fair well. The final is 40 percent from previous tests.
Take her! Received an A in her class. Tips: record her lectures, write good notes from listening to the audios, and use a white board to rewrite complex concepts/definitons/essay question answers (she will tell you what short answer questions will be on the exams) then wallah you get an A!!!! Hope that helps. Best of luck.
I love love love Dr B!!! I had her for 144/145 and I highly recommend her. It is a tough class but if you listen to lecture and take good notes in this class you will be prepared to make an A. She is an amazing lecturer. She brings difficult concepts to life and makes them highly interesting. I tell any pre rn student I see to take DR B!!!
I LOVE Dr. Becky. By far the best and hardest professor I have ever had but Anatomy and Physiology is a hard subject in general. She makes the class really interesting and allows you to record her lectures which is key to passing. I wish I could take her for all my other science classes. You will really appreciate her passion for the subject. TAKE!
Professor Becky's class is very easy. All you have to do is record her lectures and listen to them regularly. The problem is that the classes are way too boring! And she doesn't like people interrupting her with questions. If you pay attention to her classes, this is an easy A.
Great professor. Missing lecture is key to failing. You need to be present, pay attention, and study. She gives you all the resources necessary for success, but it's up to you to utilize them. She goes over what to expect on exams and even took time outside of class for review sessions. Never used the book. Record lectures! Do the HW. Study.
Dr. B is very passionate about Physio, she is smart, funny and I genuinely enjoyed her class. Tests are HARD, she is an extremely tough grader, she wants word for word what she lectures. You can not do well in this class, let alone pass, if you don't dedicate the time to study weekly. Go to class! Do the homework and the papers, every point counts!
Dr. B is the greatest professor! But you have to be an adult in her class. She will challenge you, grade you tough and make you work for it. But her lectures are interesting, she is smart as a whip, and she wants you to do well. I wish all my science courses were with her.
Ok this professor has unrealistic goals. She teaches for a Phd level.. hello we are all getting a BSN relax!!! Yes obviously the material is difficult which is to be expected, but she makes her exams TRICKY & HARD!!! Seriously prof B the material is hard enough we will get things wrong without the tricks!! she does not want you to do well.
Dr. B is an amazing professor! Her lectures are always interesting and she is very knowledgeable. She goes mainly off her notes and lectures, the textbook can be used as a good reference source for her class. Her tests are tough because she makes sure you understand the material and not just memorize it; she makes you think!
She is tough. Tests are so tricky and sometimes not based off knowledge. I knew the material so well I could teach it to someone else, but the tests are more than just basic knowledge. Her lectures are amazing tho, and easily understandable. Overall she's a very good professor but sets her students up to fail.
I had such an AMAZING learning experience from Dr. B. Her lectures were always memorable and interesting, although it was a ton of information. Homework is assigned biweekly and is conceptual, can be answered from powerpoint/lecture. Exams were very difficult but not confusing or impossible! More applicational questions and knowledge based. STUDY.
I have never had a better professor, doubt I ever will. Dr. B is absolutely amazing. Truly a teacher who cares about her students and wants them to succeed, she makes learning A&P fun. Super pumped for 145, praying I have her. Tough subject overall so STUDY, STUDY, STUDY.
Dr B is an amazing teacher. She explains things in clever ways to ensure that you understand. She makes it clear what is on her exams, what is important to know and what isn't. Record and re-listen to her lectures and make flashcards. She offers extra credit thru-out class and on exams. The textbook isn't required but I used it as an extra resource
She is a very tough grader. She gets really tricky with her homework and her exams. U have to study A LOT. She will make you think. I highly recommend recording her lectures. She will tell you exactly what will be on her exams. There are 4 exams no quizzes 2 writting assignments & 9 homeworks. She offers extra credit on exams.
3 exams, Each 80pts. Final is unit 4 + 45 multiple choice questions from previous 3exams. 9 homeworks but only counts the top 5, worth 10pts each. 2 writing assignments worth 10pts each. Says the textbook is required but I opened it twice. RECORD LECTURES! Take detailed notes. Relisten to lectures to take notes of what you mightve missed in class
Dr. B is one of the best teachers Ive ever had. Extremely organized, insanely KNOWLEDGEABLE, & always encouraging. Her exams are the hardest Ive ever had, but once you go through those all other science exams (from other courses, and the TEAS test) become so easy! Take her if you want to get into nursing or are serious about your education!
Her tests are super confusing and hard. She likes to talk about how students fail out of nursing school all the time instead of encouraging her students. Her homeworks are also super hard and confusing. I dont recommend her at all.. She can also be rude at times
So unfortunately I did not pass her class. I had to drop three weeks before the end of semester. This professor will push you to the core. With that being said, she has been by far the best professor I've ever had. Study as much as possible and don't miss class. She has ec available and the HW is fairly simple. I'll definitely retake her again!
Dr. Becky Thompson is seriously one of the smartest and toughest professors I have ever had. This woman is seriously no joke and will push u to extreme in which you will feel like you have run a marathon all semester long in her class. If u are serious about any medical profession take her. The knowledge u will gain from her class is so useful.
Dr. B is fantastic. She is knowledgeable and also entertaining. She offers a lot of extra credit, and is very good at letting you know what to expect on the test. RECORD HER LECTURES AND RE-LISTEN TO THEM! Find a study buddy/group! If you are lazy, you will not succeed in her class. Otherwise, you have every opportunity to get an A.
Dr B is an awesome professor however talks very fast. PLEASE RECORD ALL LECTURES. EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU GOT IT ALL YOU DON'T. She does not like to use the book because of a lot of misinformation. I find it best to rewrite all notes. Using different color pens will help distingush information. Do not study for exams last minute. Study in a group.
I took Dr B for 144 and 145 and had the most unforgettable amazing learning experience. She is an absolute must for anyone getting into Nursing. U must though put in 25 to 30 hours a week, put in a huge amount of dedication and be prepared to work like you have never before. After it's all done you will be amazed by the knowledge you have obtained
Super passionate & proficient in the material. If you really want to learn it take with her. But it wont come easy at all. Must be extremely dedicated and willing to put in the work. Hardest A I ever had to earn, but will def give you a taste for the stress of nursing school. Tough grader, but rewarding course . Listen to recordings on repeat!
Hardest class Ive ever taken. I dont know how other people passed but I had to record all lectures and relistened to them at home then wrote notes! So time consuming but most of the info was on the test! Lots of homework but she does give 6-8 ec points per test + if you donate blood. Do Not take this class if you dont have time to put in 2 study
grossmont-cuyamaca BIO141 shes probably the best. 1/2 - 2/3rds of what she says will actually be on the test. Youll need to record lectures and relisten Grade breakdown: 3 exams x 80pts, final is 125(45 pts from ANY of the 3 exams + 80 from last unit) Homework: 50pts max 2 10pt writing assignments 5 pts for donating blood
Dr. B is tough and she really makes you learn. If youre trying to just show up and do homework you wont pass. You need to dedicate 20+ hours a week on material & understand it. shes an amazing professor and a very reasonable grader!!! Record all her lectures and go to the ALC to look at models for her practicals. Def taking 145 with her!!
An amazing professor. Lectures are fun and interesting if you really listen. Following her outline for exam is a must. What really helped me study is create my own study guide following her outline and STUDY HER SLIDES. Do homework and study them. Exam questions are straightforward and she tells you what you're gonna expect on the short answers.
Honestly great at teaching. VERY hard grader, probably the hardest I've had. Accuses people of cheating a lot it seems, but that may be because it's online. Don't take this class if you have to cheat. You won't pass. She doesn't explain what you did wrong on test questions which sucks. Save all tests for final, she takes questions straight from it.
Dr. B is amazing! I learned so much from her in the last two semesters that I took her for A&P I and ll. I highly recommend her to anyone going into nursing. This class wasnt an easy A, you have to put in the effort but its all worth it in the end when you realize how much you learned and how useful the information is. Record lectures!
Dr. B is my favorite! I had her for BIO 144 & 145. Its NOT easy, but you will learn A LOT in her class! I spent a lot of hours reviewing her lectures and taking notes on my own time. *RECORD HER LECTURES!* She knows her stuff & how to teach it & is clear about what she wants you to know for your exams. Plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Professor Thompson is a great teacher. The course material is challenging, but so is healthcare, she is a good mentor/ guide to prepare you for it, she wants you to be successful. She sets a high standard and holds you to it. Important to attend lecture, recording them really helps, do the hw assignments. Attend office hours with questions.
Dr. Thompson is very knowledgeable about physio and will explain what she's looking for! 3 exams + final, 2 writing asgmt , top 4 hws. Admittedly, the wording of exam questions can be tricky. There's always extra credit at the end of each exam. Pushes you to LEARN + UNDERSTAND material rather than memorize. I promise it will help you nursing majors
First off professor Thompson is amazing, and her class is so interesting. Every lecture is recorded, but WATCH EVERY LECTURE! I never opened the book, but I took detailed notes of every lecture over the power points. Except to spend 5 hours to take notes of each lecture. Plus study the notes like crazy.
Not sure where all the positive feedback is from. Professor doesn't engage students during lecture. Reads from powerpoint slides. Ridiculously strict grader. Would highly recommend taking a different instructor who wants to teach and not just be paid.
Dr. Thompson is by far my favorite professor, because she is so passionate. She expects a lot from her students, but that is because she prepares you well. This class was hard, but doable. Do exactly what she says, and you will succeed. Be sure to read every chapter. Future nurses: her class prepares you for the science portion of the TEAS test.
Rudest, one of the worst professors. I had straight As until her Bio 141. Unwilling to explain things in diff ways. Ask questions and she thinks you're just stupid. Asked her for hw help she yelled at me and made me cry. Grades harshly. ALL her tests are trick questions like "Is it A? or A and B?" Don't take her. IDK she got 4/5 on here.
Her exams are heavy, and many long essays have to be the words she wants. Does not engage students at all. Always goes overtime. She is rude sometimes when students ask questions.
Shes the WORST! she grades very unfairly and SUPER RUDE! Students cant even ask her questions without her being rude! i dont know where these positive comments about her coming from. shes very strict and her exams are insanely hard. Theyre mostly essay questions. And would give you little amount of time to finish! Just dont TAKE HER PLEASE
Rebecca Thompson is one of the best professors if u are going into nursing. People complaining on here want an easy way out for nursing. She treats this like a nursing course and expects u to work for your grade. She is an amazing lecturer and she teaches physio in a way thats so complex. I took Dr B for both 144 and 145 and she rocks it out.
I'm a very reasonable person. Got all A's except for this class and here's how it went: She's passive-aggressive, graded my exams incorrectly, and gets mad when asked questions. What I feel like she could improve is caring for the students instead of focusing on "how hard" her class is. Is not hard at all. Just study, ask for help, do study groups.
Dr. B is an amazing professor! She really wants you to understand every bit of anatomy and physiology. She'll go into great depth for you to understand anything you have questions about. As long as you take the time to study hard, you'll do good and learn a lot!
Took this class back fall 2022 & she's such a tough grader. she made the class wayyy harder than it needed to be. grade is all based on exams which were filled with many trick questions & short answers had to be exactly how she stated. i literally developed anxiety after taking her class. I dont recommend taking her.
Professor Thompson was great, she had a passion for what she was teaching. Well organized lectures. Not an easy class but you will learn and do well with effort.
I truly enjoyed professor B's lectures, they were really engaging.lecture exams is the problem. Lots of tricky multiple choice, essay q's have to be how she wants them. I never did well. I did fine on lab exams after the first one(repetition studying for those), but it wasn't enough to keep up with lecture exam grades. Super tough grading overall.
this professor only grades your test on a pass fail because the CLASS grades are 90% test and like 10% hw. there is no quizzes or worksheets to go through in class to see if you are learning it or not its either you pass the test and pass the class or you do not pass. hw is a waste of time and attending class. you basically teach yourself
Dr. B gives passionate and interesting lectures, there are some points available outside of exams and the multiple choice questions on the exams are very difficult, I always did better with the written. However there is always extra credit on the exams that offsets the multiple choice. Record the lectures and go over them again and take good notes.
She is not fair with writing and grading her exams. Multiple choice questions are very tricky. Class average for exams is 60%. She gets irritated when you ask a question. The textbook will say one thing, and she says something different. You're wrong if you go with what the book says. Very demotivating. Clearly has a vendetta again your success.
Prof.Thompson is very engaging during lectures. Tips: Get a recorder, she talk to fast. I passed the class without reading the book, just listen to the recorder and her powerpoints. Pay attention to her lectures, everything she mentioned during the lectures will be on the test. Be very specific with short answers, she's very technical grading them
If you are not already familiar with healthcare related terms, she might not be the best professor for you. Strongly recommend recording her lectures, she talks very fast and exams are based on lectures with little use of the textbook. She is a very nitpicky grader, written questions will only be correct if you quote her directly.
Dr.B is the best physiology professor I have met. She teaches you from the heart, not from the book. Participation is super important because she only test you what she taught you. She gives you good feedback and tips. Homework questions will help you understand important concepts for the exams. She often mentioned TEAS questions which are helpful.
Professor Thompson was amazing. Her lectures are super interactive and easy to understand. Be aware though, she talks really fast, but she allows you to record her lectures. I never used my textbook, she grades you only on what she talks about. Her written questions are graded harshly so be very careful with how you word things.
I took this class and the class average was about 50-60% on each of the exams. Exams are difficult and confusing. Waste of time honestly, find a new professor.
305 points for exams... total of 375 points for the class. The written portion for exams is graded rigorously, and the multiple-choice questions are tricky. If you want an A or B, study early and record the lectures. Maybe try Holden or a professor from Cuyamaca. Many of you are Pre Allied Health chose your profs wisely!
Will try to accuse you of cheating if you're not sitting in the front of the class (even if you're not cheating). Exams are the only thing that matters towards your grade. You fail the exams you fail the class. She talks extremely fast and it's impossible to take good notes. I have heavy test anxiety now because of her. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Dr. Thompson is the definition of a teacher that fosters real learning. You really do reap what you sow in this class. If you don't spend the time studying a concept, you will not be able to demonstrate that you understand said concept. She offers so much extra credit, more than I was expecting. She really wants effective learning to happen.
I would not reccomend. She speaks at a million miles per second. You will need to do lots of reading from the textbook. I would study and study, make flashcards, takes all the notes during lecture, had a study buddy, but her exams are beyond difficult and I could not pass her class.
Took for Bio 141 Physiology. She is enthusiastic in her lectures and gives lots of clues to her exam questions. Like 80% of grade is off exams. Saving grace is the extra credit at the end of EACH exam. She will still do a lot of word play in her exam questions. “I don't want u to memorize this, I want u to understand it.” -Professor Thompson
-I took Anatomy and Medical Terminology classes the semester b4 and it helped a lot. -Much of ur grade comes down to only 4 exams. -Study the actual hw questions, she puts them on the exams. -Her study guide tells u what the exam written questions will be. -Some of those written questions r extra credit and that will save u.
I took this class this previous spring semester and she is not as bad as other people have been saying. This IS a difficult class and you have to put in the work and pay attention during lectures. Her tests are not straight forward in the
She is not as bad as I was expecting when I read these reviews. This IS a very difficult class. My main advice is to really understand the information, don't just memorize. Her multiple choice section especially is not straight forward and often times very tricky. In the written section, QUOTE her exactly. Give yourself plenty of time to study!
Dr. Rebecca Thompson's Human Physiology class has been my favorite course so far. The course is challenging, but she equips students with the tools to succeed. She allows lecture recordings, provides detailed study outlines with written questions to expect, and offers extra credit on every exam. You can't just memorize material in this class.
Record lectures. Listen, transcribe, live + breathe them. Everything on exam day is there. Attendance is mandatory for recording. Do not fall behind studying. I wish I took this advice more seriously at the start of the semester. No book except for two assignments. I'm taking her again for Bio-144 A&P. Take her if you truly want to learn.
If you ask a question she gets irritated. Her test are completely different than what was learned in lecture. If you don't quote her exactly how she words things, you get a ZERO on the written portion of the exams. There are professors who want to see students fail, this is one of them. Find a new professor.
For exams it does not matter if you answer correctly. If you don't quote her exactly how she wants it, then she will make It wrong. The average grade for exams in our class was always 20-55. She forces you to buy the textbook and does not use it during the semester.
This class is important, but the professor's fast pace made it overwhelming for me. She only used the book for two assignments, and the exams were very difficult. She grades strictly, so your grade can drop fast. I personally wouldn't take her again, but good luck to those who stay.
